Correction Requests: E! Online, AOL’s PopEater, NY Daily News, Fishbowl LA
by Retracto, the Correction AlpacaAs my Executive Assistant often points out to me, when a story lands on your desk that appears too good to be true, it usually is. And what could be more “too good to be true” to the entertainment media than another opportunity to smear Sarah Palin? Case in point, E! Online’s article of March 3rd, “Sarah Palin and Grabby Entourage ‘Like Locusts’ at Oscar Gift Suite” by Ted Casablanca and Whitney English. The background of the article is that Palin attended a pre-Oscars charity event put on by The Silver Spoon and the Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts in Haiti. E! chose not to properly vet the story and instead unleashed a mocking screed against Sarah Palin loaded with defamatory assertions that require immediate corrections.
The Silver Spoon responded to the misinformation spread by this article and others like it with detailed retraction requests. Below are statements from E! Online’s article juxtaposed with text from the press release from The Silver Spoon:
E! Online:
We’re told Palin was quite the prima donna and that she insisted the suite be opened two hours early so she could come when no looky-loos would be around.
Silver Spoon:
The governor arrived with a small group about 15 minutes prior to our store’s official opening; and upon arrival, she and her entire group gave generous donations to the cause. We offered to open early to accommodate her schedule; she did not ask us to open early.
E! Online:
“They told us last minute to get here superearly [sic] for [Palin],” says our rightfully annoyed source. “Then, she wouldn’t let anyone take her picture or do any interviews.”
“Rightfully annoyed”? Maybe not. Silver Spoon:
We asked and the governor happily agreed to take a photo with the American Red Cross staff and the staff of The Silver Spoon.
E! Online:
Palin grabbed some oversize sweatshirts and tie-dyed “jeggings” for Bristol, got a blowout by colorist Erick Orellana from the Chris McMillan Salon, along with snatching up jewelry from Pascal Mouawad, Skagen Watches, Lash Food and 40 pairs of Aiaiai headphones.
Silver Spoon:
Just one example of the many falsehoods is the ridiculous idea that Governor Palin walked away with 40 AIAIAI headphones. In reality, she was given two pairs of AIAIAI headphones – one for herself and one for her daughter Bristol who could not attend the event. The idea that she took 40 pairs is an outrageous falsehood.
E! Online:
Too fab she gave money, but we can assure you she did not give up any of her swag.
No, you can’t. And what does “too fab” mean? Anyway, from Silver Spoon:
The whole point of giving away products is to “give them away.” That’s why we call this type of event style a “gifting suite.”
So E! Online’s big bust is… Palin took gifts from the “gifting suite”?
E! Online:
Jeez, with this kind of bitchy and Hollywood-esque behavior, Sarah, you’re heading into Blind Vice territory! Or have you been there already?
Silver Spoon:
I escorted her around and introduced her to every vendor, and they talked to her about their products and gifted her with samples. She never asked for anything but politely accepted the products. The governor and her family and guests were very gracious and respectful to everyone.
Sounds “bitchy” indeed. Since all of the evidence used in this piece that led Casablanca and English to the extremely sophisticated conclusion that Palin was “bitchy” is bogus, they ought to retract this offensive, misogynistic slur as well.
We think The Silver Spoon staff put it best in their press release:
We would like an immediate retraction and an apology to The Silver Spoon, its vendors, and especially to Governor Sarah Palin.
Please issue retractions to this “bitchy and Hollywood-esque” article.
Exit question: If Palin is so green, so dumb, and so ripe for satire as E! Online and the rest of the mainstream media says she is, why does the left need to fabricate or wildly exaggerate stories to impugn her character? If she’s so bad, prove it with the truth.

To answer your exit question: The truth does not matter to these people. It never has and never will. All that matters is furthering their radical agenda. Just like with our president, the end justifies the means.

When it comes to politics Sarah Palin isn't my favorite, but as a person and as a parent I respect the woman and she doesn't deserve this. Nobody really deserves what she has gone through. So can all the left leaning media outlets leave the woman alone and her family?
E! does this on a regular basis, even with articles having absolutely nothing to do with Gov. Palin. She's kind of a buzzword they sprinkle through their various stories, just little non-sequiter snide asides like you see on Law and Order. Most of their 'reporters' engage in it, some, like Casablancas, more than others.
I kinda figured the reprts of Sarah Palin hoarding swag was bogus. What else do you expect from Ted Casablanca? His writing should be sold in the Fiction section at the bookstore.

I used to read them too, but gave up. Unless you are one of their particular ilk they have nothing to contribute. It's like they don't even have a complete process of thought, as if something is really just missing.
It really is a fascinating (though incredibly sad) phenomenon. Sarah Palin gets worse press than mass murderers, terrorists, child molesters, etc. The Left and the MSM (I know, one and the same) really, truly HATE Sarah Palin.

-Gave birth to, instead of aborting, her baby with down syndrome…?
-Did a comedy routine on The Tonight Show…?

I just don't understand it, but it's pretty obvious that this treatment from the MSM and the entertainment media will never end.
Sarah and her entourage feeding at the Hollywood trough is a nonstory.
Her behavior is no different than, say, Jennifer Aniston's, when faced with loads of designer crap and people who are thankful you're showing up and donating to their causes.
MSNBC reported that she did indeed make a hefty donation to some cause or other while she was grabbin' the makeup. It all works out, right?
Which makes it fine, and even welcome, for her and her entourage to take free cosmetics, lingerie, shoes, whatever. She's just the same as any other celebrity – write a check, take a few bags of stuff. It's a privilege, and really, it's not free. You're expected to give when you receive at these things.
It's a total nonstory.
Oh, wait. Maybe the story is that Sarah Palin isn't any different than any other celebrity free-stuff-grabber….
It does save time.
Add the high gloss version of Star Magazine otherwise known as Vanity Fair to the list for retractions as well. Can someone at these sites do their own research instead refering to other people's inaccurate stories?
The sooner we realize that when we consider the left-wing media, we are dealing with nihilistic, self-loathing parasites. But unfortunately they project it onto society in general and accuse the rest of us of the very sins they commit.
The Breitbart Big Sites should have taught us that we cannot afford to fight them on principles because they have none. Fight them in the language they understand (using Alinsky tactics).

Ted Casablanca is from Texas, I'm embarrassed to say. He is a profane, uber-liberal, snarky gay man who is extremely impressed with himself because he can captivate the imaginations of the sort of people who want to read "dirt" about celebrities.
It doesn't matter if the "dirt" is true or not – just as long as it is nasty, and ol' Ted can manage to put his sickeningly "cutesy" spin on it.
In order to keep from being sued out of his smoky smelling socks, Ted name-drops more than one celebrity, so that the "dirt" he deals in rubs off on all of them.
Personally, I wish someone would take him and the other trashy liberal bottom dwelling tabloids to court and put a great big hurt on them.

I just threw up a little in my mouth reading this. Every time I think the MSM has reached its low point and they no longer surprise or disappoint me, they descend to another level. How could you hate a person that much that you seek ANYTHING NEGATIVE to run with-even before you can prove it? As I said over at Big Journalism, they are writing a blatantly bogus story because someone has sent out the talking point that Palin is a 'grifter'. I've seen a few trolls here using that specific term to describe her. What's so bizarre is that there is nothing in Palin's past or present that qualifies her as a 'grifter'. When called on it our trolls usually say something vague about her resigning the governorship and writing a book for millions of dollars. Neither of which constitutes grifting, but they continue to use the term anyway. It's obviously a talking point because several trolls came out with it around the same time.
So, since there is no evidence she's ever 'grifted' anything, the MSM/Dems have to make up stories that could be true (if they were about someone else) to shore up their bogus talking point. It's all part of the big lie. Sadly, a lot of people will believe this crap. Which is where Retracto comes in.
