The continuing saga of Golf's famous, infamous and the practically invisible
practioners of the art of stick swinging.
Austin just doesn't make me smile, I guess its a personality clash. I've forgotten the initial incident that started it, something he said at a interview
when he was in the beginning stages of being made a personality that Golf
smart guys deemed lacking in the sport. Els reaction to, I guess, a bad round of which he has had some experience with lately is
disappointing tho anyone can have a bad day. At least he doesn't groove golf balls in to the 4some ahead or into the concession stand for the heck of it as the serial divorcer does or did. The personalities of Golf is interesting. The media protected Tiger as they did in the old days with Baseball players. They usually will post the hard to see birth marks of the players but Tiger got a big pass. Daly, not so much. Not that he didn't deserved it.

Not a Woody Austin fan? I'd like to hear why. I think he's pretty good golfer and has fun with the game. I am in total agreement about Rory. A couple of years ago, at East Lake, I was at the 8th green, and Rory hit his ball past the green. Of course people surrounded the ball then backed away when he approached. I'm guessing he was especially irritated b/c he didn't make the green and just started showing his a$$. Up to that point, I figured his "temper" were exaggerated, but alas not the case.

And in comparison, at the last Master's, Phil shanked his first shot on Sat and as he walked by, I said, "You got this, Phil" he turned and said thanks. I can't think of too many golfers that are as engaging.

And I do like Els, altho at the Tour this past Sept, he walked straight from signing his card to the parking lot. Kids started following him for autographs but he completely ignored them. I don't know why, but this attitude really really bugs me.

Well, we still have some characters to enliven our equivalent of Baseballs
hot stove league discussion. Daly, if he can get his card back, will keep his self destruct button handy, not a fan of that Woody guy, Kim, is a typical young guy who has his detractors, but I like a lot. As long as we are talking about fond of and not fond of, or at least I am, I can't wait for Sabatini to come out with a I sorta told you so, referring to Tiger's difficulties. He is probably reveling in Tigers fall from his pedestal. What a jerk he seems to be as I take another step down from BJs exalted position with this discussion. ( You should have stopped my ramblings when you had the chance)

I love everlasting threads, LOL. So, sorry, if I did not make myself clear. The rumors regarding Phil were that he treated other pros like jerks, I don't know if that was the case or not. And yes the other pros did support Phil immensely after Amy and his mother's diagnoses. I guess, all in all, what I'm trying to say that there are some pros today that show the class of the old pros such as BJ, and unfortunately went unnoticed by the attention of TW. Yes, he played excellent golf and yes it was entertaining as well to even non-golfers, but I personally need more than that.

I don't mean this to be the ever lasting thread, BUT, does it show the class
of the pro golfers in general when as you say "Phil treated fellow pros like jerks"
they seemed to come together to support him and his wife Amy when she was diagnosed with cancer or do you think it was just Amy they were acknowledging?
Aside, We have kind of taken a step away from the lofty heights Mr. Jones occupies.

Well, Ive not cared too much what Tiger's caddy had to say about Phil. Of course he has every right to dislike him, but he was classless by touting those opinions in public. If I remember correctly the last thing Steve said about Phil in public, Tiger was very upset with him. Anyways, I've heard rumors about Phil's character, but I have not witnessed anything of what little I"ve heard. And FYI, I watch alot of golf on tv and any tournaments I can get to here in Atlanta.
Phil may treat his fellow pros like jerks, but he's always, always has been gracious to his fans. IMO, Phil is an everyman golfer. (I tell me people i like him b/c he makes me laugh and cry) And I don't know of any pro golfer that does more for the variety of charities that Phil's involved with.

From this distance he seems to have the character issue resolved and Tigers caddy
doesn't like him would that now be a plus?

Bobby Jones, it seems to me, is in at least the top 3 in everybody's ranking if not number 1.
While all this is from a non-golfer, I do enjoy watching the sport and is or was a big fan of Tigers.
A persons character is part of my picture in politics, Hollywood, or sports in my estimation.
While I can appreciate the talent Mike Tyson, posessed for short time I never really cared for the guy.
There are others of course, but I am having the hardest time dealing with Tigers free fall from
the highest pedestal everyone, including me, have placed him. Make an argument as the best
golfer sure, its possible but will I now... not likely but time may tell if he can redeem himself.
I'll bow to your bias and your opinion, at least until the next star rises to the challenge.
