You would think a lifestyle like that would make a child a bit more mature, even jaded - or at least wise beyond her years. But it's possible that her protective family and the lack of intense, long-term social interaction with other children left her without the ability to "read" people. Never having to deal with the class bully or bitchy girl cliques or adolescent romance, she may not have learned many of the basic social and emotional skills most of us take for granted. Her "school of hard knocks" wasn't the same one most of us graduated from. In addition, as a youthful performer she may have developed into something of a "pleaser" - relying on other peoples' approval and not wanting to disappoint. Someone like that is definitely easy prey for the narcissist, the abuser, the psychopath. Can't wait to read the rest of her story. Nice article.
