I get it. I was raised in an Orthodox Jewish environment in Brooklyn where respecting your elders was mandated—or else!

Which reminds me. You know what I love about Jane Austen novels? Husbands call their wives Mrs.or Madam, and wives call their husbands Mr. or better, yet, Sir.

I've been trying to get my wife Karen to call me "Sir Robert" but she just kinda looks at me like I'm completely insane.

After reading your post on Cortez I have to agree about the book idea suggested above. Your style utilized here is deceptively smooth and gratifyingly compelling, the perfect approach for creating unusual and memorable profiles of silent-to-talkies-Hollywood era actor's lives – behind the screen.

Since I'm being this presumptuous, I'll go on and suggest picking ten with "legends" or notoriety already tied to their names and make stand-alone chapters out of each. That way, if the book moves slowly, chapters can be separately used as magazine pieces or online articles to develop interest in the book.

Just an idea announcing itself from an admirably balanced, gracefully written piece. Thanks for it.

Oh man, you actually want me to sit down and put together a whole book? I dunno, sounds like a lot of work. But hey, I have a great strategy for controlling printing costs. I call up a friend and go: “Hey, I'm really sorry, but can I use your printer, mine is busted.”

You just have to make sure and not call the same person more than once a year. Works like a charm
