The terrific story stood on its own and the characters were treated with great respect. I appreciated being able to see the ugliness they had to live with as they struggled to make something out of their lives. I'm so glad you posted this series, I would have never seen this movie otherwise.

Awesome as always. Last week I mentioned “The Glass House” and that a college professor said that it was the most realistic he had seen. You had the idea that I thought that prison movies were realistic. I should have stated that the professor meant that their are no movies(up to 1981) that showed what it was really like on the inside. Only one came close was “The Glass House”. I am looking forward to this movie so I can see a realistic female prison, not the ones we watched in the 80’s with my friends. But that is another story.

You should rent some DVD’s of old serials. They are fantastic. Glad you’re enjoying this series.

Thanks so much for the kind words. Laura is absolutely brilliant in Within These Walls. She brings an easy naturalism to the role, doesn’t push the character’s pain and isolation, nor does she resort to sentimentalism in a role that could easily have gone wrong.

Prison movies are mild compared to the real thing. But I can see where a viewer would shy away from such material. I’m interested in your reaction to Within These Walls. It’s women in prison movie, but with a difference.

Charles Dickens published his novels in serial form. It’s a great way to write for it imposes discipline. Working in TV helps hone this method as you have to write towards a rising arc and then cut to a commercial.
