Gwyneth Paltrow in Another Touching ‘America Sucks’ Moment
by Pam MeisterAh, Gwyneth. Obviously being fabulously rich and famous just isn’t enough for some people. A few years ago, after making the decision to make her home in London with beta male rocker Chris Martin of Coldplay, she told us how much she prefers living in Britain to her native country:
I love the English lifestyle, it’s not as capitalistic as America. People don’t talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner…I like living here because I don’t fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans.
When she says she doesn’t fit into the “bad side of American psychology,” she means she’s become one of the cultured elite overseas whose life mission seems to be badmouthing those mouthbreathing colonials from across the pond – although she’s happy to accept their money.
But that was back when George W. Bush was in the White House, and it was sooo embarrassing to own up to being American. (Just ask Will Smith.) You’d think that with Mr. HopeyChangey in the White House and the fat paycheck from the very successful “Iron Man” in her bank account (with “Iron Man 2″ on the way for next summer), Gwyneth might think about getting de-fanged.
Sorry. Do not pass “Go,” do not collect $200. Gwynnie’s at it again; this time, talking about her latest home away from home, Spain:
It is so different from the United States. It seemed to have a history, and the buildings are years and years and years old. Here in the United States an old building is about 17 (years old), and over there it’s from 500 B.C., it’s incredible…
Also, the way people live over there. They seem to enjoy life a little bit more…They aren’t running around as much as in New York. They enjoy time with the family. They don’t always have their BlackBerry on.
If New York is Gwyneth’s only basis for comparison, she might want to consider going to a more rural area to see how Americans are capable of “enjoying life a little more.” But that would mean going out of her comfort zone. Finding out how real Americans live? It’s best to see that sort of thing as interpreted by movies like “The Ice Storm” and “American Beauty” where suburbia is depicted as a hell Dante couldn’t have imagined. And rural America? “Deliverance” has that covered.
But I suppose we really shouldn’t blame Gwynnie. She’s lived all her life in a bubble of money and privilege. She didn’t even have to wait tables like so many other actors and actresses before her first break – having an actress for a mother and a director for a father had to have helped some. And perhaps we should cut her some slack considering that when she’s not reciting the lines someone wrote for her, her best attempt at describing Spanish architecture is to say it’s ”years and years old.”
GP says she was “misquoted” the last time. Will she use the same excuse this time? You know, I wish I wasn’t so psyched about seeing “Iron Man 2.” I hate to think of her tarnishing her principles by being seen onscreen by millions of embarrassing, uncouth Americans.

There's an old bit that Bill Cosby does called "The English Language" that I like to refer to whenever some lib says "Americans are so stuipd. Most Americans know only one language while Europeans tend to know at least two."
So I'm supposed to take advice from a woman whose dress appears to be falling off? (Or at least, needs the straps adjusted.)
Leerjet liberal at it's finest, mosty delicious variety.
Paltrow is a sad-faced dimbulb with very modest talents. The only reason she made it into Hollywood is because of her parents. She married another brainless cultural leftist media dweeb. It's like she's a template for every pathology of the modern progressive.
I lived in Europe for 10 years and, it is true, Europe is a wonderful continent–if you are massively rich and don't have to worry about such mundanities as paying for groceries or making house payments. I used to say all the time–Europe is a playground for the rich.
The middle classes–not so much. Gwennie should have come to one of my dinner parties where we spent the whole time talking about how high the taxes were and how horrible the National Health was and how pathetic the EU Parliament was.
I am so tired of celebrities trashing Americans. Most of the Americans I personally know are very well-educated, cultured and well-travelled. Who are these Americans we keep hearing about by celebrities that are so stupid and uncultured? I beg Gwennie and her friends to travel around America and see REAL Americans.
I just came from a 3 week trip around America and the people are outstanding, friendly, trustworthy and a joy to be around.
Y'all just keep her in New York City, Don't send her out here, ya hear?
Points for the name, man.
I appreciate that comment Nola…I would never judge an entire country just on the people I socialize with. All countries have wonderful people and some not so wonderful people. I'm tired of people bashing America. I love my country and the freedom it has brought to others. I love the history of my country. Even though we don't have some of the very old buildings that Italy, France and all of the other ones do, each country has something special to offer and ours I think is (or was) freedom.
Given the choice, I'd rather be known for standing up for what I believe in as opposed to sitting on my rear having tea and crumpets talking about how hard it is to be deep and intellectual.
And she was the only thing I didn't like about Iron Man. Then again, she's the only thing I don't like about most movies she's in (except for Sky Captain…I hated all of that).
The cultural elite hobnobbing with the dirty masses, nola?? Forsooth!! Where do you think you are?
After reading Dwight Schultz's excellent post a month or so back concerning the discrimination against conservatives in Hollywood, my disdain for the late Bruce Paltrow and his vacuous daughter increased exponentially. We are talking order of magnitude disdain.
I'm no rich fella. Have to admit, my limited experience in England and Europe is that people are a lot more open minded in political discussions, prone to healthy disagreement at a dinner table. Whereas in America a discussion about politics where there's disagreement tends to get ugly, or just as often, half the table can't handle the tension of disagreement and healthy debate, and would rather talk about People Magazine fodder. So many subjects that are nearly verbotten to discuss in America get short circuited from the top down: Q) why terrorists want to fly planes into their buildings? A) Because they hate freedom. Anything else is unamerican hogwash. Q) is Israel right or wrong with their policy of expanding settlements? A) Israel is our friend and ally. Any suggestion of their being off-base = antisemitism. C) is global warming real or flimflam by those (like big biz and Al Gore) wanting to cash in on the Green Carbon Cap n' Trade movement? A) questioning global warming is like questioning the holocaust. These subjects can be debated respectfully in Europe, but so many in America shout the other side down. Sorry — we have intelligent people in America, no doubt, but we're Wayyyyyyyy too politically correct in the U.S.
Gwynneth Paltry.
"Portrait of a Lady" ha-ha – Doofus Americanus, Gweneth, what do you think your salon says about "Apple" behind your back?
Someone should make a movie like It's a Wonderful Life, except instead of the main character seeing how things turn out if they were never born, let the character see what life is like when they are not born into money and priviledge.
Let them live paycheck to paycheck, let them get pushed around by an out of control government bent on taking what they've earned. Let them get up at 4:30 in the morning to take the boy to hockey practice and then get him home and ready for school while trying not to be late for work. Let them work jobs they hate just to make ends meet.
Maybe it's already been done, I dunno….
Cris, I suspect nothing good!
So – America gives her the chance to become famous and ridiculously, obscenely wealthy. Then she kicks us to the curb.
Kick her back – if she loves Europe so much then she should renounce her U.S. citizenship and start really living over there – paying the extremely high U.K. taxes on the wealthy and just shutting her mouth about America in the future.
Europe and England wouldn't be what they are today without America. They'd be saying "all hail the fuhrer" and speaking in German.
Just a small point that our poor vacuous Gwynnie can't ever grasp.
Not that I would wish this on anyone, but if Gwyneth lost her all her money, her dinner time conversations would take on a completely different perspective. As for her love of historical places, the US might be very young but Europe is a teen compared to Egypt and China. For me, the fact that the US is comparatively young and yet became THE super power and leader in nearly every category of life, outdistancing the rest of the world by light years when they had a 1000 year head start, is far more remarkable.
I know this will come as a surprise to some but—America is a lot younger than Europe hence it has less history. I know: SHOCKING!!!
I always wonder about people like Gwennie and what message she gives to her HALF-AMERICAN children about HALF their heritage. Also, does she realize that (whether she admits it or not) she is American? In many ways, she is who she is because she is American. And she should be proud of it…IMHO. I know I am. I love being an American.
It depends Manic.. I've said it before, I don't have a problem with celebrities who voice their opinions in a REASONABLE manner. I do have problems with celebrities who feel it necessary to slam me and my beliefs just to say "I'm smart, I'm intelligent and i know better than you do".
I'm glad she lives in Britain, too. Can they take the rest of our idiots?
Blythe Danner is a great actress and Bruce Paltrow was a good director. Together they raised a twit.
There is a simple answer, ignore those entertainers that fall into her camp. For me that means boycott. I watch far less tv or go to fewer movies because the lead actors haven't earned my dollars. Yes, I know boycotting some movies or tv shows is not a perfect plan because I may also be punishing some decent talented actors in secondary roles, but that's life.
I'm not saying it's going to be easy, i really can't stand the leads of 30 Rock, but I find that show very funny. It's like being on a diet. I stopped watching Greys Anatomy and Private Practice because of the red head's involvement with Planned Parenthood. This was a harder sacrifice for my wife.
Maybe if everybody joins in, the numbers will eventually make a difference and they will not be an A lister anymore. Don't count on these people finally getting it. When she refers to America as New York city and Hollywood, this dim bulb is ignorant and will never learn. I wonder if Obama is aware of her 5 watt dim brain. I wonder if she will be required to get a mercury filled curley noggin. Hmmm doubtful.
Well said.
I'd like to see how Miss Salad Fork feels in a burkha…..
But that's all they've got. I guarantee if someone challenges them on these statements you'd hear crickets.
Heck, I bet she ain't never listened to no Lynyrd Skynyrd , and rode in a "years and years old" pickum-up truck like mine! She ain't nuthin' but dum old heifer…. them numbnuts socialist spainiards can keep her!
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!
Apple…..it's right out of a Seinfeld episode……Apple….BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
The older this woman gets, the dumber she becomes.
That's the problem, though…there's so many of them that take this "I've traveled abroad and know more about life than you do" point of view when talking about the rest of us. I can deal with them having different opinions…people from all different walks of life will. But when they start with that "I'm cultured" crap or get angry with us for how we vote (like Prop
is when I get offended. I just wish people would actually stop watching their movies or buying their music when they say stuff like that.
Spain seems to have history? Wow! Who knew? Sure wish the United States had history. Does GP have any other fascinating and wise words to offer the underprivileged sheltered American?
Ah, Spain, the place Paltrow loves so much–maybe people have time to relax and shut their Blackberries off there because of the 18% unemployment rate due to the green policies and stifling taxes the leftist government has implemented.
Have no fear: our Dear Leader used Spain's expenditures on environmentally-correct energy as a model for the Cap-and-Trade bill. Unemployment here edged up to 9.4% in June: in a year or two, many of us will be able to relax (because we don't have jobs) and shut our Blackberries off (because we can't afford to pay the bill). Ms. Patlrow? She can wing off to the UK and hob-nob with her fellow elites.
And for yours, too, ManicOtter!
It's funny how some people throw insults at America because we are alternatively dumb, uncultured and lazy, or capitalistic, all work and no play robots. Regardless, when the hammer comes down, who does the world turn to? Us fat, lazy, stupid, capitalists pigs. Funny how that works.
But maybe I'm just as bad. If I hear something described as European, I think of that as an insult. Like, that guy over there is very European….meaning, don't bend over in the shower around him. Or, that's European diplomacy, meaning, let's allow the bad guys to do whatever they want so maybe they won't hurt us.
Do you think the dim bulb reads Big Hollywood? Would she ever see these comments? Would it make any difference? Doubtful.
Well said.
My three college degrees and I bow to your superior intellect, Ms. Paltrow.
Gwyneth Paltrow is ridiculous and I could care less what she thinks of America. As for her appearance in Ironman, you could shake a tree and 100 actresses capable of filling that role would fall out.
Probably better looking too, Paltrow needs a burger STAT!!!
Man, I cannot stand Gwyneth Paltrow. I winced at her appearance in "Iron Man" last summer. There should have been a better red-haired American actress playing Pepper Potts than that Paltry woman.
What's next country after she got bored with "Spain" after few years? I'm sure she may be thrilled at the prospect of wearing a burqa in Afghanistan or Pakistan and call either country a wonderful place to live. Please, someone, do not ever let this Paltry woman back into America.
If Big Hollwood major contributors have her email address and forward the article to that Paltry woman.
I wouldn't want her within two states of my family's 130+ year old limestone farmhouse. It isn't old enough for her; it might cause irreversible depression. Besides, we sit around and talk about how good the potato salad is just before we jump onto the subject of how disastrous El Presidente Government Motors' policies are …. and then my cousin tells some of his hunting stories featuring guns so we can all laugh.
That may be the problem with Europeans. They are not passionate about their beliefs.
Polite discussions around the dinner table. I wonder if this is always so………….
Perhaps she's just intent on living up to the stereotype of the Ugly American.
It seems Ronnie that you are hanging around with the wrong people. While my friends and I have engaged in heated arguments over politics and policies we have never gotten ugly or not spoken for the sake of political correctness.
In short if you don't like the conversation or people then move on to ones you do like.
Poltically correct or politically polarized? I think it's sad that you can rarely find a reasonable discussion of disagreement too. I think part of it is that our school system has ceased to teach our children to think critically. If you can't think critically then you don't know how to disagree politely. When the open lines of communication are shut down, the next step is to escalate physically; that frightens me.
Not to mention Marshall Tucker and Charlie Daniels, LOL. Gonna take a Freight Train,… Kiss off, Gwyneth
I think when she was a teenager people simply looked upon her Naïveté as simply being young. Now she is of the age that she should know better and people like ourselves are less forgiving.
Bravo Nola you summed it up so well.
I would simply say that if your experience to something is limited, be careful about making generalizations based on that limited experience.
America has quite a bit of history, but it has been largely purged or at least dumbed-down to the point of utter blandness by the Left. In its place we have revisionist agitprop and modern art/architecture.
goop happens….
It was a Seinfeld!
Do you remember the episode where George wants to name his and Susan's baby Seven?
Jerry starts looking at random objects in his kitchen: "Why don't you name the kid Mug? Mug Constanza? How about Bisquick?"
I'm an American and an Anglophile. I love to visit the U.K. (although I must observe that the people I met in Scotland were much nicer on the whole than those in London), and I love the richness of history there. I've never been to Spain but I'm sure it's a great place to visit and a great place to live especially if you're fabulously wealthy.
However, I just don't get this insistence that Paltrow and other American celebrities have in trashing the U.S. in order to gush over the fablulousness of their expatriate lives in the U.K. or the Continent. It serves NO purpose except to make these people seem more shallow and small than they already do.
Folks, here is and idea that will make a point. Don't go to see any movies Ms. Paltrow is in. Stop enabling her.
That's… not a very accurate assessment. American history is an extension of (pre-Marx) European history, albeit one that took some pretty big leaps of faith when it came time to turn philosophy into a political framework. But then, Europe historically tended to be more dynamic (for better or worse) than other cradles of civilization, which were often held rigid by one form or another of god-emperor/bureaucracy/top-down authority structure.
What Gwyneth is actually saying is that American Indians were stupid. They didn't build houses that last (except for the pueblos in the southwest she forgot). They didn't know how to write (their verbal tales have origins thousands of years old). They spent their lives scrounging (yet she thinks the hoi polloi should live a more "sustainable" lifestyle).
Even simpler: Ask them how far the average American has to travel to reach a nation where speaking another language would be required.
These LEAR JET LIBERALS are pathetic…. The only thing they want from the GOOD old US is ONE THING..
THE AMERICAN GREEN BACK!!!!!!
It is hard to read anything from these people.. they are so far removed from any normal way of live…..
It's Gwyneth after all, what do you really aspect? One of the funny things about all of this , is one home computers would not be in dam near every where if it was not for some stupid American in his garage. The Inter net were every body and there mother bitches about the US would not be here, unless that Warmonger USAF Gen Curtis LeMay wanted a fool proof, bug proof way to communicate to his Missile Silo's. Never mind about Dumb stupid Americans, being able to grow so much food, and cheaply that hunger is way less in the world that it would be with out them. And then there is Europe, twice in one Century they asked us to shed our blood to either perserve or gain there freedom again, then to keep the Soviets from over running them. and in that process,Never mind the huge amount of money to rebuild Europe. The Russian people would be liberated from an 80 year nightmare with out a single shot fired in Europe. GP is a passable actress, she hit the big one with IRON MAN, they should get a good run out of it, unless they spit to much on the "Stupid Americans" that they decide, I will not spend the 10 bucks for the ticket to see it. She is just one of many that can stand us as a people or a Nation, but sure dose love our money. Its nothing new really, this goes back to the founding of the Republic. We are a Republic after all, 4th of July is but 48 hours or so away, I plan on doing all the traditional stuff Stupid Americans tend to do. I even may go to a Movie how about that.
Exactly, I wonder how many prescription meds you have to be on when Apple sounds like a good idea for a kid's name…..
I'm with davimcg. Put your money where your mouth is (like buying food for your family) and stop going to her flicks. Turn the channel when she's on. We can do something, but commenting one way here, then running out to rent "Shakespeare in Love" on the way to buying the new Coldplay CD ain't it.
Sad thing is is that I wouldn't even wish her on Spain… :/ And Will Smith used to be one of my favorite actors until that crap I just read… :/ I don't know what Paltrow has heard at the dinner table all her life but the LAST thing we talk about is work and money… or if we do talk about work it's antidotal about our co-workers.. :/
Idiots!
Or how about we just throw them into space (or give them to North Korea) Because honestly, I wouldn't wish our psuedo wanna be American Euros on anyone…
While we're here…let's not forget The Outlaws and Molly Hatchet! Damn sure know what I mean?
Liberals, they love to take your money and then scream about how bad capitalism is. What phoney, freakin' hypocrites all of them are.
I agree and that's what I've been doing. Every hypocritical hollyweirdo is on my don't watch/don't buy list. I seem to be adding more and more lately also.
I find it interesting that the current crazed agenda is not garnering more favor amongst her ilk. Gywn, like her Hollywood confederates of enlightened thinking are cornering the market on babbling BS? The problem is we have to be exposed to it. Let's review – Spain is old and good… the US is new and bad – any questions? Baaah
The device has not yet been created which could measure my indifference to this insufferable bore of a woman.
Somewhere in this country, are actors every bit as talented as say, Steve McQueen or perhaps even John Wayne. There are actresses more talented than Ms. Paltrow. But these people do not fit "the type". These people would be too patriotic, too un-PC, too (gulp) religious, too prone to talk about freedom instead of justice. Too . . . Prejean, to be offered a job in Hollywood.
Until there's a real counter culture in Hollywood, meaning money people who can underwrite something other than what comes out of the ministry of information, those people aren't going to be seen and their careers will go noplace.
Pity.
"It’s not as capitalistic as America."
And that's supposed to be a good thing, Ms. Millionaire?
Iran would be the best place for them
Spain, the country of wussies, the country who caves to terrorist threats, the country of Sangria, the worst wine on the planet and on and on.
this is the luxury of thought that a muscular US foreign policy and a strong capitalist engine can allow. The complete and utter cluelessness of Paltrow is naked, under the light of public scrutiny- for all to see. Her pampered poodle lifestyle exists because of the Marines at Iwo Jima, Truman's containment policy on Communism, Reaganomics, Maggie Thatcher, George W Bush- Europe- her precious Spain and England-
exist as they are because OF US.
They would either be goosestepping to 'Deutschland Uber Alles' or singing the 'Internationale' with their Red comrades…
Think about it.
Maybe not madm but it sure as hell does make us feel good so what's your point.
Maybe not madm but it sure as hell does make us feel good so what's your point.
But… but… IRON MAN 2! Aaaaaugh, I'm so conflicted!!
"I've never been to Spain"
Neither have I Dab…but I kinda like the music and I hear the ladies are insane there…
I've never been to spain either but I've been to Oklahoma.
So it wasn't just me! I was like, what, b*tch, you have something against biodegradable housing? What, you hate the environment?
Agreed, she's a nobody that makes no difference.
Not anymore, now that SHE's made all of her money here. Now it's not good enough. No wonder she named her kid apple, she's a fruitloop.
Gwyneth Patrow is a joke as an American – she has lived the American dream. She came from a rich family and she thinks she's royalty. She is actually a bore with a big ego and I could care less what she thinks about anything. Her statements suggest maybe she thinks she needs some "media attention." Poor Gwyneth this is the only way she can get it.
Ronnie, I'm a hardcore Reagan conservative and I have to agree with you wholeheartedly. It's almost impossible to have a good-natured debate on really important, topical issues in America. And, although I loathe Ms. Paltrow's unappreciative, narrow, pro-European worldview, I have to agree that Europeans have a more interesting social culture than here in the states. In places like Spain, having a good time on a Friday night doesn't mean getting shitfaced, throwing up and in a fist fight – although, ironically, in many parts of England it does mean just that! Just watch any spring break TV coverage and you get a pretty good idea of what American culture has devolved into. I think that Paltrow needs to spend more time outside of places like LA an NYC, though.
Most Europeans have given up is my experience. They are world weary and just want a quiet life. Their passion for freedom is indeed gone–and sad it is too.
And because of that lack of passion, for right and wrong, how many wars have been fought on that continent.
Seriously?? You show up here with that??
Just another bite the hand that feeds you menber of the Hollywood rich and famous. The only dumb Americans are the ones that still pay for anything with the name Gwyneth Paltrow in the credits.
We lived in Europe for several years and I would characterize a large number of the people there as apathetic and uninformed. They accept the conventional wisdom very easily and what beiefs they do claim to hold doesn't usually affect their behavior.

and so, the breeding path on our way to Idiocracy begins.
Soooo……Hank, where can one find this tree? And is there a singles branch?
Great comments Nola and thank you from this American and unabashed Anglophile. When I first read the comments, I was laughing & thinking "what was the last movie she did that made money." I'd forgetting Iron Man, only because she had the great fortune of being attached to a massive hit in a small way. It's a shame that once again she is spouting this idiocy and as you mentioned, what message is she giving her half-American children. Perhaps — if she'd wake up the few brain cells that aren't quite dead yet — she might teach them about the man who was possibly the greatest half-American that ever lived: Sir Winston Churchill. Gwennie might learn a few things herself. Then again — probably not. She can't come down off her high horse long enough anyway. But thanks again Nola. Spot on comments!
What I love about idiots like Paltrow is how they work so assiduously on destroying their careers and box office appeal. Their self-sabotage does us a great deal of good and saves us money.
Indeed, many Americans (myself included) have "traveled abroad" too, but we haven't done it first class and only hobnobbing among the elites. While such travels do have their pluses, for the most part, they have only made me appreciate what we have here at home all the more. Of course, one who is spoiled everywhere she goes might not get that.
She was in Ironman? I have the DVD but I didn't know, which Taliban is she?
I've been all over too, and you're absolutely right about it making me appreciate coming home…..especially the plumbing…..
I love America but I can't stand that song!
She was the helper to Ironman. His personal secretary.
I'll let you know as soon as I find it…..
Indeed! Hey, Marvel comics movie people! You completely recast the Hulk franchise. Can't you at least make one little change for Iron Man? Please?
My point is this, the posts here preach to the choir. (Don't get me wrong, I love this site) These people only understand one thing, attention means love. When you stop giving them attention, they go crazy. I have known lots of actors personally and intimately, and this is an absolute truism.
Yes we feel good, now let's do something about it. Stop watching them entirely. Actors have such thin self esteems, even the hint of their own obsolescent, and they will freak, lashing out with additional crazy rants, only fueling their spiral down to footnote status.
Not very graceful… I can imagine Grace Kelly, saying, "I've had some wonderful holidays recently in Spain. What wonderful historical areas they have."
Yeah, I wouldn't miss Iron Man 2 and Robert Downey Jr. one of the actors brave enough to admit he's not (and can't be) a liberal. Plus, try seeing any movie with out an America hating lefty involved.
I know! How can we miss Iron Man 2? Somehow they keep sticking fools like this into all our favorite movies.
taliban…nice!
would love to see her try to live in a tent for a month. Just one month. Doubt she'd make it past the first week.
The problem is that she is attached to films like Ironman, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'd pass on Ironman 2, but Robert Downey Jr is great as Tony Stark and I'd like to support his efforts.
Whenever the life was sucked out of a scene, that was her….
Spot-on about not having to work for her success. She was only 17 or 18 when family friend Steven Spielberg cast her in "Hook", thus giving her her first big break, without the nuisance, of, say, having go to college or drama school first and mastering her craft the hard way.
I'm not saying she's a bad actress or an unattractive woman (though I think there are better actresses and more attractive women in Hollywood.) For that matter, she can appreciate Europe all she wants. But at her age, she should know better than to bite that hand that feeds her. Believe me, if she went away, there are hundred other struggling actresses that could fill her niche in Hollywood just as well or better.
"Unemployment here edged up to 9.4% in June: in a year or two, many of us will be able to relax (because we don't have jobs)"
Don't you mean 'FUN-employment"?
That's what comes from growing up in a communist elitist loving household.
Now, if she truly hates capitalism so much, I've got a bank account routing number she can donate her filthy capitalist gains to in order to cleanse her soul.
Common sense (those of us who live outside of Manhattan Penthouses have alot of that) tells you this.
[...] Gwyneth Paltrow in Another Touching ‘America Sucks’ Moment by Pam Meister [...]
She was the chubby fuzzy one. Had to take off her skinny skank suit for the role.
And the fact that we don't have to PAY for the privilege of using a public toilet (most place, anyway, I hear there are some "pay to pee" toilets in NYC, but I bet I could find a free one if Iooked hard enough).
umm…based on her past behavior, what makes you think that Gwyneth can read?
I knew it. Gwyneth Paltrow hates Native Americans. She's not the bleeding-heart liberal she makes out to be. [/sarc]
Can we somehow spread that meme around? Being that Gwynnie the Boob-brain likes to spread falsehoods about her homeland, she shouldn't mind if we do the same to her reputation.
Another Hollywood child. Her mom had a great Broadway career but apparently Gwyneth wasn't schooled in New York. In my time there we took field trips to the Colonial forts seen in "The Last of the Mohicans", Washington Irving's house, and the Roosevelt estate — just to name a few places with more than 17 years of history. My current area of residence in the NW abounds with historical and cultural must-sees like petroglyphs on the Snake River and the Nez Perce Historical Trail.
What Paltrow is really condemning is her own shallow values derived from being immersed not in American but show-biz culture from youth. Bruce, Blythe, I think responsibility lies at your doors.
The enlightened Spain? The Spain that colonized most of the Southern Hemisphere, slaughtered the Indians, traded and enslaved more African men and women than the U.S. ever did? Oh, yeah, that Spain. The one that has slaughtered many a Northern Africans as well. How did that turn out for ya? Mrs. P, please take your comments elsewhere. You are probably the same kind of person that sympathizes with the terrorists, denounces everything capitalism, yet basks in the luxury of the financial royalties that stupid, ignorant, fat, lazy, unenlightened Americans have provided to you and your pretentious wanker husband by consuming your (albeit mediocre at best) bodies of work.
We civil engineers appreciate your business.
Funny thing, a lot of countries are wonderful place to live if you have an American income, access to American healthcare when needed, protection of American law and diplomats and freedom to travel to America when you want. Take those away and not so much.
pay to pee in NYC? when i was growing up there, I remember all one needed to do was find a dumpster to stand behind.
Sigh. Another celebutard spouting her non-existent knowledge of America. Hey Gwyneth, shut up and show us your boobies again in a movie and pretend you're an actress.
and sadly, Wolf- this attribute is in short supply amongst the pampered poodles…
Like all generalizations, this issue is largely a canard. Doing comparison between one place and another is just a form of "my being smart enough" to prefer this or that.
Give Gwyneth a break. She is pretty, can act a bit, and clearly not a genius.
As for tolerance, I don't think Europe is the place to look. They have laws against certain types of speech and if you violate them, you are fined or jailed or both.
Ask Bridget Bardot. Can you imagine her being jailed in the US for having an opinion?
We almost never go to movies in a theatre anymore. I make a good living, but I just can't justify the expense for the tripe that comes out of Hollywood…most of the time. We do make rare exceptions for something that really should be seen on the big screen (like Star Wars or Star Trek). Otherwise, I'll just wait until it comes out on free (network) TV. I don't care that the expletives are edited out (actually, I'm REALLY OK with that). And, I Tivo it so that I can fast forward through the commercials and pause it when I need to go to the bathroom or get something to eat. As for Ms. Paltrow, oh, how I wish someone would stuff an entire cake in her mouth and make her swallow it.
Have some pity on GP. She hasn't been the same since Brad Pitt dumped her.
And, yes, her opinion is just that.
Not much has changed….
Dude, jealous? Of her? HA! Certainly not jealous of her looks; she's "adequate" as far her face goes and she's anorexically thin (speaking as a fairly thin person myself). Certainly not jealous of her talent; she's "adequate". Cerainly not jealous of her money; I wouldn't have that much money if it would make me as petulant, preening and prejudiced as she is. Certainly not jealous of her family/background; I wouldn't have wanted to grow up in Hollywood, nor would I wish to raise my own children there (no offense to those of you who have/do, it's just not my cup of tea). Is there anything else of which I should be jealous?
Gwynneth Poultry
I remember coming home from Rome, I hugged my good ole American toilet…..
Aahh, but Princess Grace had class. Ms. Paltrow…not so much.
and we have to scrape it off our shoes.
Thanks:)
I met the guy once, and can truly say, I would take him on any of his bad days over all the rest during their shining moments. A very warm and approachable person. But, again, that was my experience only.
That's part of the bit I mentioned.
It was that very difference… lack of top down authority… that allowed those Europeans who became Americans to far outdistance their English contemporaries. Europeans settled America. Then came the revolution. From that point on, the colonists were no longer "European". So my statement stands.
ahh.. so that's where her boobs are. that would explain why that dress is so ready to fall off.
I know the feeling.
I was going to see Ironman but she was in it so I stayed home and cleaned the toilets. I think I had the better deal.
She is…… I bet she has never seen the images of 9/11 such as people jumping out of the Trade towers etc
She does not care about any others but her precious self

December 2005: “I find the English amazing how they got over 7/7. There were no multiple memorials with people sobbing as they would have been in America. There, they are constantly scaring people but at the same time, people think nothing of going to see a therapist.”
indeed, but even my two pampered lasa apso/toy poodle mix dogs can catch rabbit when i let them out. The human variety pale in comparison.
This is a good point – if one's only perspective on American culture is New York and Hollywood, then yeah, it is going to seem pretty superficial. But it's her problem if she has no interest in getting beyond that, and actually learning to appreciate American culture and history.
Indeed, He owns that role.
He truly does, no one else could be Tony Stark. The same way that no one else can be the Joker, or the way Christian Bale owns Batman. There are those roles that were meant for one actor to play, and no one else.
I love Tom Selleck, but can you picture him as Indiana Jones??
Well if we want to have a "best moment of celebs trashing the US" my vote would go for Ophra Winfrey and Will Smith when Will, multi millionaire, is telling Ophra, billionaire, how difficult it is to be black in America and how unfair the country has been to them. And Oprah, of course, is agreeing with him.
This reminds me of that scene from The Aviator where Howard Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio) has lunch with Katherine Hepburn's family. They're all high society, art snob, FDR-loving socialists.
Mother Hepburn: "We don't care about money here, Mr Hughes."
Hughes: "Well that's because you have it."
Mother Hepburn: "Would you repeat that?"
Hughes: "You don't care about money because you've always had it."

You don't even need a red-haired actress. That's what wigs are for.
I hear Bubbles the Chimp is currently unengaged.
you bet-
real poodles are true hunters; we had a toy poodle amongst our myriad of pooches- she would tap on the back screen door and demurely deposit a dead bunny as a tribute. Perhaps 'pampered poodles' is far too nice for this crowd- we shall go back to the tried and true 'lounge lizard' instead…
Vince is a poser, he comes here to contradict rather than discuss and he knows it.
Everything you said was accurate.
I thought not. At least the pizza's still good.
Made in America really means something.
"It is so different from the United States. It seemed to have a history, and the buildings are years and years and years old. Here in the United States an old building is about 17 (years old), and over there it’s from 500 B.C., it’s incredible…"
Millions of dollars, rubbing elbows with people more edumacated than us knuckle-dragging Americans, and she still manages to sound like a dumb blonde. Well done, Gwynny, WELL DONE.
Actors and actresses are adults who get all dressed up and play make believe for a living. Why should we care what they have to say about anything?
Yes it must be so difficult deciding which yacht to waterski behind…..
naw… as good as he is, he would not work in that role. He does, however, make quite the awesome cowboy! even when he's riding the trails in the Australian Outback.
She is trashing America for its history. May I invite this moron to visit Fort Sill Oklahoma and then do some time hanging out in the West Texas Panhandle? Thats where American history still lives. Or what about Boston, and the Freedom Trail. You know I did my time in Europe and I found it remarkable but stagnant and dreary. There were reasons why our ancestors left by the millions. Maybe Gwynnie ought to shut her pie hole and remind herself of those reasons. Dumb dumb dumb woman.
Hey, how about that 18% unemployment in Spain. Screw the New York hustle and bustle.
Yep, I remember Denzel Washington saying In an interview with USA Weekend, "I understand what country I live in, and economics. If the tables were turned and there were 200 million black people and 25 million whites, they'd be saying the same thing about Tom Cruise they're saying about me. I know I'm swimming upstream against the numbers. A whole lot of people in the country won't go to a movie I'm in because I'm black. Period. So the fact that I can operate and do well–I know they're not continuing to give me jobs and all this money because they're nice–I must be bringing home something."
Ever after, if a movie had Mr. Washington in it, hubby would refuse to go see it because he's white and white people don't go to Denzel Washington movies, even though we were huge fans of his. I loved him in St. Elsewhere.
I'm a rock-ribbed Libertarian and a flag waving American (a bit older; I'm still mad for Gwyneth's lovely mom Blythe Danner.) But I think both the author and a lot of readers have been "oversensitized" by her earlier statements.
Rural Spain IS a wonderful place to relax, have long wonderful dinners, and enjoy the countryside. The lifestyle IS different, and the history is long and deep and amazingly interesting. I agree 100% with her impressions, having spent in this region on business. I can't find fault in the general sense of what she has to say (notwithstanding the goofy statement about the age of buildings).
Having said that, I think she is blinded by her privileged international upbringing to miss so much of what this country would offer as well. I wish my income and family situation had allowed me to give my kids just a snippet of the things she has experienced. On the other hand, they remember the fun old lady who served us chicken fried steak in E. TX, catching bluegill with local kids in MN, eating fresh sweet corn in IA given to us by the farmer where our truck had a flat tire… and so on.
…which only means Europeans are ignorant and snobbish in at least two languages. LOL
Later, Gwinnie showed up at her condo in Rwanda. "It is sooooo much better here than in the United States, because . . . ". However, she was cut short in mid-sentence when a stray rebel's bullet hit her neck.
Why doesn't Gwyneth just renounce her American citizenship?
[...] to our Navy SEAL snipers and Scarlett Johansson visits the troops Pam Meister, Big Hollywood: Gwyneth Paltrow in Another Touching ‘America Sucks’ Moment Greg Gutfeld, Big Hollywood: Daily Gut: Troopathon Brigadier General Anthony J. Tata, Big [...]
If Miss Paltrow ever cracked a book in her life, she would discover that the United States does indeed have a history. One that she is sorely ignorant of.
I was kinda thinking, the biggest thing wrong with America is mouthy, rich liberals. Hey, Americans would have a lot less stress, and a lot more free time to enjoy life, if our freakin' government wasn't always coming up with new ways to intrude in our lives, and to steal our money.
Is it just me or are european cities filled with litter and graffiti? I was surprised how littered places like Rome and London and dare I say it–Paris–were around the edges. The central parts of the city are wonderful, but the edges are really messy.
On the other hand, I was amazed at how clean the roads in the US are? After living with litter for the past 10 years in Europe, it was quite an eye-opener how clean the States really are…
No it's not just you. The prevailing odor in places like Venice and Paris was urine.
I will say that Wiesbaden, Germany was so clean you could eat off the streets.
I've been born and raised in Germany. Moved to the States 21 years ago and became a US citizen19 years ago. What I have accomplished here in the States I could have never accomplished in Germany or Europe for that matter. I visit Germany about every 5 years or so and am always happy when I am back home in Arizona. My friends always tell me how lucky I am to live in a country where you can still follow your dreams and where you are not taxed to death. I have to agree with them. In my opinion, America is the best country to live in and I'm glad I became Americanized
).
If Gwyneth feels that strongly about Europe, then she needs to stop making American movies and stop taking American's had earned cash.
What an overrated, self inflated, pompous, arrogant, pencil-shaped douche. It's ok to love your newly adopted country, but to break the golden rule which is, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" is totally unforgivable. Those Americans you call unintelligent and uncivilized, are the same hard working, tough, proud people who help pay for you to live your lavish, bourgeoisie existence.
So perhaps you should take a moment and pull your head out of your ass and quit talking shi* about a country and its citizens who have been nothing but good to you and your family. As a nation, we should take a firm and decisive stand against Gwyneth and her anti-American propaganda campaign. Make her feel the bitter sting of loosing American support and American money. We should also call on any American company who may hire her and let them know we will not support them if they hire this anti-American swine.
She needs to stay there permanently and never set her ugly feet on our soil ever again! And the rest of us need to ignore anything she does as a celebrity anywhere for anything forever!! I really dislike people like her who make their money off our backs and then spit in our faces. She maybe be pretty on the outside, but she is ugly in the bone!!
You sure it was in Oklahoma, not Arizona?
I have to say, I somewhat agree with you. But it's only because of left-wingers.
Every Conservative I have met is willing to discuss things. Not just with me, as a fellow Conservative, but with anybody who wants to discuss issues.
Leftists, on the other hand, never want to talk about anything. They get violent if you try to bring up a subject, sputtering and hateful when you point out the errors and flaws in their logic, and then completely shut down. It truly seems that the more wrong a leftist is, the more indignant they get about it. Note that as Obama becomes a more and more visible failure, his supporters become more and more vociferous – look to Krugman, Garofalo, Matthews, Maher, et al.
I've lived in other countries as well, and it has always struck me how closed-minded American leftists are. Maybe it has something to do with the maturity that tends to drive people to Conservatism? Who knows.
But it strikes me as more than mildly ironic that the people that Johnny Depp, Sean Penn, Gwyneth Paltrow and so forth are complaining about … are themselves.
An utterly useless idiot. Without a script I don't think GOOP could find her A** with 2 hands and a shovel. She must have walked into the walls in her life time at least the ones that didn't miraculously move out of her highness's way. Good luck to her and please let her stay wherever it is she'd rather be. Sadly I can say no more because she's already been added to the list of brainless actors and actresses I will not enable with my money.
Does Paltrow even make movies anymore?
She lives in Britain. It's being over-run with angry Muslims who are injecting Sharia into the culture. Same goes for Denmark. Hollywood just refuses to acknowledge this time and time again. Dear Hollywood: "Liberal" is derived from the word "Liberty". There is no Liberty, and no modern-day Liberalism under Muslim rule. Got it? Geez, do a little homework.
I think the Americans she's referring to are the folks on "Wife Swap". Those people are embarrasing.
I prefer naturally red-haired actresses! Though Maureen O'Hara still rules as the preeminent red-haired actress.
You can´t have it both ways. If we are polarized then at least one side in any debate is NOT "politically correct", obviously.
I think you have a full spectrum political scene in America. Europe lacks that diversity. They do not have anything resembling American-style conservatism. Like us, Europe has conformity and a lot of received wisdom that is never questioned but we have far more dissenters. For example, since 2002 WE had a real debate over Iraq. I was in Europe at the time and there weren´t two sides – they are all thinking the same, saying the same stupid uninformed things. And that´s true of all subjects. If you want to hear unfounded criticism of Israel, dumb ideas about 9/11 and the Al Gore party line on global warming, Europe is the place for you.
I am a patriotic christian American conservative evangelical to the very core whose father is from Spain, so I've had a chance to visit often since I was a young child. And let me just say I FRIGGIN LOVE SPAIN.
There, does that make me some kind of traitor to my country? Chill the eff out already. She loves Spain, and so do I. That's my prerogative as an American.
And I don't like to see people bad mouthing Spain anymore than I do when somebody badmouths America. Knock it off. They don't deserve to be badmouthed just because Gwenyth happens to love it there.
Ps., I say the same thing to Spaniards (or anybody) who badmouths America. I don't stand for it.
Her opinion of Spain isn't the issue. It's her opinion of America, or at least the way she has to drag America-bashing into her every gush of praise for her latest European vacation spot that's offensive.
I agree with Dimmeth Platrow. Spain had a great history, even before the civil war! The Gladiator guy was from Spain, right? And their´s was a kick-ass empire. First the reconquista, then they brought civilization and germs to the Americas where their language dominates to this day. And their inquisition was the only serious one. The Spanish also kicked ass at Lepanto. If you ask me they lost their mojo when the caudillo died. Today they have nothing but Almodovar movies and subsidized olive trees. Sad.
I didn't see her badmouthing America in that article. She simply said how much she loves it in Spain, for which I don't blame her. It's country with a lot going for it, as is America. Neither country is perfect, both have their charms, their strengths and weaknesses. I am proud to be American, I believe in American exceptionalism, yet I wouldn't at all mind having a house in Spain. I love it there.
Hmmm – would that be the same Spain whose dictator Franco supported the Nazis? What a ditz! I did European history at school; when given the choice of doing local (South African) or US history, I leaped at the latter. For all it's flaws, the USA has always been the last bastion of hope when facing psycopaths bent on world domination, be it the Nazis, Communists or Islamo-facists! USA all the way! Oh, and Gwynnie – you haven't given a decent performance in over ten years…the concerned Earth Mother vegan schtick may have served you well in the past, but it rapidly becoming both hackneyed and passé!
I grew up just outside Philadelphia. I found Independence Hall, Ben Franklin's House, the Liberty Bell etc. to be fascinating pieces of history and always loved going down to see them. It never bothered me that our country is only 200 plus years old.
superb, El Gordo, superb!
Of course things are leisurely in Europe. Who has to worry if your livelihood is being taken care of by the government? Never mind that your nation is spiraling into debt and can't compete in the industry.
As for rural America or even middle-class America, she'll never give it a second look because I suspect all over knowledge comes from films on that subject. And surprise, surprise everyone in the middle-class is incredibly miserable in all those movies. Maybe she should watch "Tender Mercies" a movie that was shockingly authentic if you ask me. Very natural and not remotely condescending. First time I've seen an American church in a movie where everyone wasn't dead on the inside or crazy.
AthiestCon – she does (most of which don't play in many theaters) but you do bring up an interesting point. She might be considered "A-list" but is she a movie star? Can she open a movie? Do people go see a movie "because Gwyneth Paltrow is in it!"?
Sadly, in Hollywood today, concept is king. The only problem with that is the concepts are being recycled. Universal just greenlit a movie based on Asteroids… the arcade game! Didn't they make that movie ten years ago… twice?!
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41591
I have to say, as someone who went to film school and would like to work in the biz one day, everytime I read an interview with a studio exec who decides what movies to make based on "franchise potential," I shudder a little inside.
The second quote seems pretty mild actually. People are a little less rushed, the buildings are really old. That's just atmosphere.
The first quote, where Americans aren't intelligent or civilized… that's a pretty clear slam.
"They seem to enjoy life a little bit more…They aren’t running around as much as in New York. They enjoy time with the family. They don’t always have their BlackBerry on."
OK bato65, while not an out-and-out slam on America, you have to admit this is a backhanded slap and a look down the nose if nothing else. The implication she makes here is that everyone in NY "runs around" too much, doesn't enjoy time with their family and always has his/her BlackBerry on and, therefore, not engaging in "life at home". Ms. Paltrow has every right to state her opinion. If she doesn't like the USA, then perhaps she should take the proper steps to become a citizen of Spain or England.
Disclaimer: I am not from nor do I live in NY.
Indeed. Liberal views in any other language sound as stupid.
Why is this important? Get a life.
Yes, that was a slam. It was also a slam recycled from a previous article about England.
There's nothing that should be offensive to Americans in her comments vis a vis Spain.
If she hangs out in Spain long enough, she may wear that burqa yet!
She has a point, you know. If we're not a nation of dullards, then how do you explain the facts that Obama is president, the Democrats are wrecking a once-great country, and that nobody is stopping them?
If you don't believe everything is perfect in America doesn't mean you're slamming your country. As I said before, most western countries have a lot going for them, but neither is perfect. That includes the good ol' Us of A.
I know how much these L-tards do love to slam their country, but that isn't exactly what happenned here, now is it. In fact, she toned down her idiocy considerably since her last comments about England, and we'd do ourselves credit to recognize that and show her some charity for it. This is no big deal, it only makes us look petty. We should knock it off.
The very epitome of an elitist snob. If you think Spain is so wonderful, then renounce your citizenship and stay there. Adios.
Who cares what Gwyneth thinks, I want to know what Susan Boyle thinks.
She just gets added to the list of actors not worth spending my capitalistic gains on.
I am quite entertained without Sean, Tim, Suzanne, George, Matt, Terrance, Gwyneth, and a few others that slip my mind.
They have the freedom of speech to say what they want, and I'm glad they do, (I wouldn't want my money going to an enemy of America without my knowing).
My freedom of listening saves me a lot of money.
I have also found that I can save a lot of money not shopping at the stores or businesses some of these dolts advertise for.
For example, Obama had a racist lesbian fanatic that advertises for Applebees give a speech at a presidential function, wishing Americans that disagree with her dead.
Bye,Bye, Applebees.
You will feel much better about yourself when you start calling the sponsors and telling them what you think of them for using such hateful people as spokespersons, and point out that, unless this business has a monopoly on the market, you will be shopping with more America friendly businesses.

Sure'd like to know that I'm not alone…..
What does this sheltered, sophomoric, nouveau Euro-trash wannabe know about how real people live?
Made of win.
madm-plus-6 — My family has done the same thing. We live in the stix lacking cable tv, and did not pony up for satellite. News by paper and internet. All that boob-tube time is spent with the family, or going over homework, etc. Out to the movies are special events, usually animated for the kiddos. I personally adopted your approach 15 years ago by waiting for a movie to hit VHS or DVD and then watching with friends and/or after rental hit $1. Not many movies in that first year or so, but soon my list was full. I have shrugged and am not participating (or verrrry little) in GwenPathetic's economic sector.
ScottDS – My protest behavior in the last paragraph is easier because there are indeed fewer good movies worth my time. "Franchise potential" does not a good story make. My kids work around the house for their allowance, and, funny, after handing them the 3 trinkets on their shelf and explaining that that is the same store value as the video game or book they want, they don't seem to want any more tv trinkets. Makes them think. What I like in a movie is a story that makes me think or lets me escape. Hard to do with bad writing, bad acting, or an openly anti-American "star" like Paltrow or that recently ranting Megan Fox. …was there a connection between Fox's latest rant, the public backlash, and the Media talking about co-star up & comer Isabel Lucas? We rented Transformers1 a month ago, and will rent Transformers2 in a year or so.
Lmao! That's hilarious that she said that.
Nothing sexier than seeing a chest full of ribs. Anorexia is sooooooo cool.
Exactly my thought. The rotten apple never falls far from the tree.
and playing them like a xylophone is always fun.
"Y'all"?
Ugh…
Thanks CG – BTW I noticed you are a fan of a much, much, much, better actress Naomi Watts. All I can say to that is: "good onyah, mate!"
it would be sweet to see her kids grow up to become Conservatives. Not likely to happen, but…
"..but we're Wayyyyyyyy too politically correct in the U.S. "
**********************************************************************************************************************
LOL, and the Euro's are not MORE SO? You, my friend are either drunk or have NEVER been to Europe or even read one of their major newspapers.
"Most Americans know only one language while Europeans tend to know at least two."
My Tarheelian spouse had the perfect response. We were in Monaco trying to get something to eat when the snotty waiter (who spoke English) wanted to know why we didn't speak French as most Europeans spoke two languages. To this, my spouse replied, "Because North Carolina isn't next door to France."
And, by the way, we Grits DO speak Yankee.
I speak a smattering of German — enough to get food and find my way around — but when visiting Germany, I found in most hotels the wait staff wanted to speak English, refusing me the opportunity of practicing my German. Off the beaten tourist path, I spoke German or we went hungry (or got lost).
One of the reasons Americans spoke English only for so long was because the French, Germans, Spaniards, Haitians. Italians, Swedes etc. who came to America to build a better life for themselves wanted to learn English. Now that Mexicans are coming here in significant numbers who are not interested in learning the lingua franca and not being forced to, Americans are learning a second language. When last in Dallas, spouse and I couldn't function "on the economy" because we don't speak Spanish. It was very hard getting directions, ordering in restaurants and getting a cab proved impossible because we couldn't tell the cabbie in Spanish where we wanted to go.
For me, I'm glad Gwyneth moved to England. It raised America's common IQ by twenty points. Unfortunately, it probably lowered the Brits' common IQ by that same amount.
Another I will not be seeing. The amazing thing this summer has been my children being ok with not seeing Transformers 2. I had the older ones, ages 22 to 15, read Megan Fox's comments. I have 2 boys and 2 girls in this age group. I infomed them that I would not pay for them to see the movie, could not use the tickets I purchase at Costco. After reading what Fox had to say about them, they were ok with not going. And my 12 and 9 yr old have found other things to do, like read and play outside. Boy and girl. Do we REALLY NEED movies?
I've never been to Spain (though I'd like to visit someday), so I can't comment on people being less rushed in that country. But in the other European countries I've been to, people speedwalk everywhere, even in the rural towns and villages. The way you can tell a local from a tourist without anybody speaking is by how fast they hustle. The tourists go slowly and take their time, the locals zip from place to place as fast as their feet can carry them. It seems to me that people are rushed everywhere.
It's not an insult, but it's yet another pretty unobservant statement from somebody who continuously shows how oblivious she actually is.
I apologise ahead of time for my lack of knowledge, but wouldn't the ruins of say the Anastasi peoples be older than 500 BC? I thought they were about 1000BC? So, if we follow that trail, wouldn't that mean there are places in the US that are more than "years and years and years old?" I haven't spent much time in Europe since I was a young child, my parents lived in France/Germany for about a decade, but I remember quite a few "really old" buildings that were mostly slums and in complete ruin. The ones that were important properties were the only ones I remember being upkept.
I honestly didn't know she still made movies. I think it's more than a bit odd that the people most vocal about politics, like Pitt, Jolie, Penn, Paltrow, et al – don't seem to do much in their real line of work anymore. And when they do something, sure it's hailed by the establishment that made them stars in the first place, but the movies are horrendous flops.
Personally I've never been on the 'star' bandwagon anyway. I think the entire concept of acting is ruined once you become a star – you can't fade into a character if who YOU are never fades away.
I haven't seen all the slams on Spain you mention. It is a fact that the unemployment is very high there and the government is definately not well run. I see several people here have mentioned that Britian is overrun with Muslims and the people are not fighting against the fact it is turning into Londistan under Sharia. Otherwise it seems most ppl here agree with you on Spain's beauty and culture. What's your beef?
Palthrow is as ignorant as can be..no old buildings in NY? As if nothing historic here in NY or the US…lets not forget where she comes from: Bruce Paltrow who we heard all about here from Actor Dwight Schultz…….liberalism is a crippling mental malfunction. edieted to add: I'm sure those who use blackberries regularly also buy movie tickets….
The funny thing is the uncouth, boring, stupid Americans she's taking about are her own left-leaning, American bashing celebrity/media/entertainment buddies because she wouldn't be caught dead with real true Americans, she wouldn't be able to handle our super-intelligent, laughing at celebs and a spineless prez type of conversations anyway so bash all you want you don't know any REAL AMERICANS! Also, she is another reason the Oscar has lost it's shine, the bar has hit rock bottom as far as talent in hollywacked, but the show must go on keep giving out those token Oscars.
The fact this IDIOT can command the attention of anyone just shows how mindless we have became.
Ah! It's a worldwide phenomenon!
Humanity as a whole is lazy with their beliefs, I suppose.
Delusional. Though, I must admit, your description eerily sounds EXACTLY like some of my interactions with right-wingers (not all, but many). …and I'm not just saying that!
It often boils down to "you know what, I've had these views for a long time, and I don't appreciate you telling me that I'm wrong".
If I had to guess, I'd say that both sides do it… I can admit that.
Folks, when it comes to Gwyneth's experience with Americans, let's remind ourselves that even though she was sent to a posh, elite private school, in general she's been surrounded by Hollywood and entertainment types for most of her life. In case anyone has forgotten, a whole lot of Hollywood actors and actresses barely finished high school (if that), let alone managed to make it to college. In other words, that particular cohort may not have been particularly intellectual or interested in open-minded discussions…and that's whom she's spent most of her life with. For those of us who've been involved in other professions in America, particularly those that require either a lot of formal post-high-school education or professions that involve constant knowledge updates, we may have found the discourse in general to be a lot higher-level than what Gwyneth has apparently experienced during her time with the entertainment elite in America. Hmmmm…gives one food for thought, doesn't it?
She doesn't know how to go in her purse and give you a tip, I know that, cheap biotch !
Both!
There are plenty of prehistoric ruins in the US and you would think the fact that they were constructed by various native tribes would raise them in the esteem of the politically correct liberal but I guess if they aren't in LA or NYC they don't count. At least not in Goopy's vast intellect.
Because these type of people, GP being a perfect example among so many, the only manner in which I can watch a movie guilt free is to actually download a bootlegged copy. That way I can enjoy the movie, feeling certain that the "sup-a-stah" and the enablers behind them don't get a flippin' dime!
Excellent point!
Give her a break. It's not like she has breasts or anything to hold the dress up.
Ronnie, I guess you never sat around a dinner table in "my" part of Italy. My relatives live in a small town not far from Potenza, and dinner table discussions get volcanic over how long to cook the macaroni.
I've been a fan of Iron Man since I first statred buying comics in the '60's. I did not see the movie, despite the great reviews, and will not, just because of Paltrow.
What, you never watched The Beverly Hillbillies on TV? You have no appreciation for fine American culture.
What, is not her dress falling off her best available method of getting attention?
When I lived in Sweden in 1990-1991, a quarter pounder with cheese at McDonalds (in Stockholm and Malmo) were 55 kronor (crowns), with the exchange rate of 5 kronor to 1 dollar- so no, I didn't eat any of them but my point is that was the CHEAP meat! Most everyone I met was worried about how expensive everything was (I constantly heard that, in swedish) and did indeed discuss things just as you described over their dinner tables. Also, the Swedes (and Nordwegians and Finns) I met were very curious about Americans and loved Native American history/culture, and they really appreciated my American friendliness (even when they told me that Americans were ignorant, especially in geography). Gwennie probably doesn't realize that while American liberals and celebrities are obsessed with money, it's very tacky pretty much everywhere else in the world to be so flagrantly obsessed with the having, obtaining, and flaunting of money. There's a difference between being over the top materialistic and just trying to do your best to make ends meet, no matter where you live.
What about "Soda?"
I forgot about that one. I found the whole bit:
"I defy you to come up with a better name than Seven."
"Alright, let's see… How about Mug? Mug Costanza. That's original. Or Ketchup. Pretty name for a girl."
"Alright… You having a good time now?"
"I've got fifty right here in the cupboard… How about Bisquick? Pimento? Gherkin? Sauce? Maxwell House?"
"Alright already!!"

Would someone stick a sock in her mouth. What an ingrate she is. If I go see Iron Man 2 it won't be to see Miss Mouth That Should Close Paltrow. She is a spoiled self-centered immature airhead.
You people are a bunch of freaking idiots. Really. Tune out that self-hating queer Matt Drudge and actually READ what she said: people should spend less time on their Blackberries and more time engaged in their environments. What the hell is wrong with that? And by the way, Big Hollywood? What the hell is this site? The only "Hollywood" type I see on here is the director of Transmorphers. Really? Really. Jealous much?
In a way, I think it's racist to criticize Gwyneth for saying these things. After all, she's basically just voicing the First Lady's opinion.
Chris: "No offense, lambchop, but your country sucks ass."
Gwyneth: "None taken, pookie pants. I hate it as much as you."
Chris: "Still, you do have some of the best artists I've ever plagiarized.
She's just one more liberal expat twit whose knowledge of history is minimal at best and whose political opinions are formed by the last person to whom she spoke. What she doesn't seem to realize is that her Euro friends laugh at her Val-Gal shallowness behind her back.
"Years and years old?" I lived there for two years. So's their plumbing. "It seemed to have a history." Seemed? Of course it has a history. She's so vapid I'll bet she thinks "Man of La Mancha" was written by a Hollywood screenwriter and hasn't a clue that the story comes from a Spaniard.
Hope she stays over there.

This article was nonense. I adjusted my response accordingly.
madm—
when Estee Lauder hired Paltrow as their spokesperson, I stopped using their perfumes, which I loved. So did a number of my friends, and we emailed them and let them know why.
Doing my part…
wanted to see Iron Man, but bought the DVD instead of going to the theatre,as well. I am a big borrower of DVDs (form the library), so liberal Hollywood doesn't get my dime.
Good point
I think that everyone should be exempt for Iron Man 2 because Robert Downey Jr. DOMINATES the movie—Megan Fox or any other b-list actress could play Pepper Potts and RD would make them look good.
I have only paid to see GooPhy in Emma; vain, know it all girl who gets her comeuppance—-would call it typecsting, but GP still has not learned a thing.
On the "On the road series, GP mentioned that she worked as a receptionist in a resaurant, and tended to screw up the reservations. She didn't seem to learn much.
I wonder why she isn't living in Spain? She liked it so much.
Thanks man!
"good onyah, mate!"
I have friends in Knoxville and Nashville, but I don't recognize the accent. Memphis?
That may very well be the case. I don't think being opinionated is strictly a left or right issue. You're obviously just being contentious, but I'm certain your statement could be true if you were a left-winger living in some incredibly Conservative area.
But in my experience, left-wingers don't tend to live in overwhelmingly Conservative areas.
Due to our educational institutions being indoctrination centers for leftist groupthink, most of us with college degrees and careers end up living among lefties. And they never, ever want to talk about politics, unless you're just blindly agreeing with the latest Jon Stewart / Bill Maher / Keith Olbermann rant.
Your wife sounds like a character!
I want to know what Carrie Prejean thinks
What Ronnie doesn´t want to admit is that political correctness is a left-wing strategy. The people who thought it up named it without a shred of irony. Let me recycle one of my favorite quotes:
"Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to."
(Theodore Dalrymple)
Gwen, you are a talentless traitor. Stay in UK!
queer? really? I love it when lefties expose what they really are.
Everybody in the world knows that if she was not the daughter of famous showbusiness people, she would never have even come close to an acting career.
Everybody in the world know it, save maybe Miss Paltrow.
Why should anybody listen to anything she has to say?
That said, of course there are parts of the European way of life we should take note of and incorporate into our culture. Better food, more relaxed lifestyle…I think many of us are ready for that.
That movie will never be made, because that's real life with no fairy tale ending. Hollywood has no interest in making movies about people who actually work for a living day in and day out. It took me years to realize that if I wanted to be rescued (from what? I don't know–but I was indoctrinated that as a girl, I had to be rescued from something), I would have to do it myself. Prince Charming exists only in Disney movies.
I wonder if she and hubby had offshore accounts with UBS to hide their income from the teeth of the UK and US taxmen. The do as I say and not as I do crowd are the worst of America because they c an even admit they are American….sadly enough.
But I must say that I could be following her advice this time. And follow the jobs out of America to wherever they go. The one complaint from businesses that shift operations overseas is that it is hard to find an American quality workforce. What other way can we escape the madness of the government that Gwennie helped to install. Thanks for the advice. I'll take my tax dollars and find a more deserving government somewhere. I have a few hunches.
Wonder how she's liking the muslim take-over of England??? She'll be back in the states soon..
In one fell swoop she's pissed off the people she generally hangs with here in the US of A (The lefties she almost certainly partied with who she says are so shallow and limited), the audiences she should try to cultivate so they will buy tickets to her movies (read middle America), producers who may think twice about signing her if she makes herself box office poison, and Euros in general because she just confirmed the conventional wisdom that she's a typical shallow American, all in an attempt to curry favor with the Euro artsy-fartsy set that will dump her once they learn the true limits of her intellectual reach.
It's fun to watch such morons self-destruct.
I feel your pain as do most real Americans.
Well at least she doesn't live here and complain. A lot of Liberals in Hollywood put down our country yet they continue to live in it. At least Gweneth actually left.
