Does Michael Moore Hate Working People?
by Phelim McAleerAnd does the self-proclaimed defender of the working and middle classes actually know anything about them and how they live?
My questions were prompted after a “letter from Michael Moore” popped into my inbox. It was promoting the DVD launch of his documentary Capitalism – A Love Story.
Mr. Moore acknowledges that some may not have watched it in the movie theater because they were working too hard but then blames poor ticket sales on the behaviour of the very workers he pretends to defend in his documentaries.

He seems to detest working people and how he thinks they behave in the movie theater.
But for those of you who didn’t get to the theater, what’s your excuse? Didn’t want to sit through 20 minutes of TV ads up on the screen before the movie started? Don’t like sitting next to people who have 6 important cell calls to make during the film? Feet get stuck to the floor after two hours of people spilling their 164 oz. sodas, thus preventing you from getting up when the film’s over?
So in Mooreland the workers of the world are boorish, inconsiderate slobs who eat and drink to excess and mess up their theaters.
It is clear Michael Moore despises his audience, but perhaps even more tellingly, he does not even seem to know how they live or even what the inside of a movie theater looks like these days.
For one, I travel a lot across America and in the movie theaters I go to most people seem to enjoy the trailers.
Honestly, when was the last time people made a phone call, never mind six, in the theater beside you? It simply doesn’t happen anymore (if it ever really did).
And feet stuck to the floor? In most movie theaters nowadays you could eat your dinner of the floor. Michael Moore likes to portray workers in some kind of Dickensian nightmare struggling against uncaring bosses who will work them to death in hellish conditions. In Mooreland there are no air conditioned offices and factories or on-the-job trainings and promotions.
And in Mooreland, the movie theaters are thirty-year-old caricatures that were inaccurate even then.
So I beg the question: Does Michael Moore actually know any working people and how they behave? Or does he just despise them and their habits from so far away that he doesn’t even know what their habits are? And given his strange assumptions about the interior of movie theaters, it seems fair to ask, does Michael Moore even go to the movies any more?

why should his commentary on this, or anything for that matter, be any more accurate than his 'documentaries'? heck, i'll be surprised the day he gets something right!
Did this fatass slob make fun of…well…..slobs?
164 oz. sodas spilled.
Hmm. Who do I know who might drink a 165 oz. can of soda. Michael, can you help me with this very tough question?
Like most lefty elitists he sees a distinct difference between himself and the "public" or the masses.
The masses need educatin' and they are like cattle that need to be herded and directed because, God love 'em they're just too ignorant to know how the world really works.
Short answer…yes, he thinks working people are dolts but he sure loves their money.
This scumbag is such a liar. He's not even from Flint like he claims and he owns thousands of shares in Halliburton for crying out loud!!
You make a good point. Moore doesn't love workers – he hates Capitalism. Some sectors the economy get hit hard from time to time – like Detroit auto industry that Moore pretends to care so much about. That's economics. And some people have crappy jobs – that's economics, too. But there's no longer any cosmic struggle pitting Workers against Capitalists. We're all in the same boat. Moore needs to get his mind out of the 19th century. And maybe even join the rest of humanity and find a job that doesn't suck with a company that doesn't suck. That's what people do. He might find out that real "workers" aren't the poor, exploited saps he thinks they are.
I'm sure he gets his drive-thru orders at McDonald's right….
The only way Moore can enlighten the masses is if they render his lard ass down and make a giant candle.
Just read the information about Moore on this page, and you will learn that he's nothing more than your typical lying, left-wing sack of manure:
http://www.mooreexposed.com/
"I'll have what ever you got behind the counter! That will be all! Now hurry up or you'll be in my next movie!!" LOL -
In a bit of irony I heard a local PBS radio station playing excerpts from Moore's "Documentary" about capitalism… The Beggers… I mean anouncers… Kept praising Moore and his "Doc" claiming how it was the end all be all on how evil capitalism was… The irony of course this was a PLEDGE DRIVE!
The Idiots are trashing the whole capitalist system but begging for other peoples hard earned cash…
Yeah but it would smell like ham….
"…does Michael Moore even go to the movies any more."
Apparently, Michael is a huge fan of NetFlix:

Does Michael hate working people? Who knows what is in his heart and mind. He is a typical torn, confused proglib who has lost the narrative. Maybe that would make him irate, angry. Don't know if he hates anybody.
What were you saying about cell phones in movie theatres.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nation/690540...
Come on Hank! Mikey Moore is rich. McDonalds drives to him. haha
Without Capitalism, how could this Neo-Comm make his propaganda??
With a very big truck I'd imagine….
My rule of thumb even way back when I was a liberal:
Never trust a fat Socialist…they usually aren't really
working folks ("activism" is not a legitimate trade).
O dear Micheal, darling of the media elite, you have a problem with this film. It does not fit the anti-George Bush mish mash of your previous films. You have only made on semi-literate film, your first one. Roger Smith did have a healthy dose of the ruination of General Motors and did betray his obligation to the GM family.
Methinks you will join the camp followers of Cindy Sheehan and her traveling clown show. I find it quite humorous that you describe movie goers with their 128 ounce drinks as methinks YOU are the only obvious purchaser of such piggish movie fare.
Ride comfortably, dear micheal, on your private jet with oversize seats, and don't forget the leftover popcorn.
Michael loves the little people, who else will swim between his toes to scrub away the truth he tramples on.
It's called the "Oil Drum" at 7/11. It is next to the Double Gulp cups. And it comes with a sling so your arms don't get tired holding it. But I have never seen them sold inside movie theaters. ??? My guess is that is Moore runs down to the 7/11 during his government mandated smoking break at 10:30 and gets himself one. With the sling, he can smoke and still drink his favorite soda.
Roger Smith did have a healthy dose of the ruination of General Motors and did betray his obligation to the GM family.
And Mike couldn't even be honest about that — he actually did interview Roger Smith, and then decided not to put it in the movie.
It seems to me that the workers of the world united and decided to skip his movie. Besides, sometimes the 20 minutes of media presentations before the movie are somewhat entertaining.
I don't mind my feet sticking to the floor if the movie in question is what I want to see.
Finally, I go to theatres where my fellow movie watchers really do turn off their cell phones and remain silent during the presentation. Very often, that's more due to the lack of original humor in the movie than consideration for other theatre-goers.
Does Michael Moore Hate Working People?
Not sure I know the answer to that question, but I do know the answer to this one:
Do working people hate Michael Moore?
Who in their right mind buys the theater's crappy soda in any size nowadays? Instead of eating junk at the theater, you take that money and go eat at restaurant somewhere before or after the show. It may still not be good for you, but you're still getting more for the money you spend that way.
I go to the cinema and complaining about people talking, adverts and mess seems pretty accurate to me. In the quote he's clearly not critising the people he's addressing, but pointing out that these things are actually good reasons not to go. Surely you understand that. I think your Micheal Moore hatred has carried you over the edge at this point.
Undocumentaries are what Moore makes. Truly, they are undocumented, or even misdocumented I might add. Please stop calling his films documentaries, as this gives them more stature than they deserve.
I make it a rule to never trust a FAT anti-capitalist.
Really, who cares what this guy thinks? Not me.
I think he is miserable with his own self and wants everyone else to be as miserable as he is.. Life is too short have some fun Mr Moore.
Moore doesn't really care about any working person, unless they are paying money to see one of his stupid movies.
No it would probably smell like unwashed a**.
The dinnerbell at the Moore house: Beep Beep Beep Beep Pshhhttt.
If you've ever read Joseph Conrad's "The Secret Agent", Michael Moore is very much like the Professor character in that book. An anarchist who has utter comtempt for the average man.
"Conceive you this folly, Ossipon? The weak! The source of all evil on this earth!" he continued with his grim assurance. "I told him that I dreamt of a world like shambles, where the weak would be taken in hand for utter extermination."
Nice to know that even when you were a liberal you were a bigot. Glad you found the right party!
the only workers that this fat slob will defend are the ones on the left….. you tell me who is BIAS????
They can fit 18 wheeler flatbeds at the drive thru and McD's?
And the Republicans use those "cultural grounds" to pass economic policies that hurt the working people who vote for them. Yes, working people want decent working conditions, but if right-wing politicians scream loudly enough about affirmative action (read: look, someone who doesn't look like you might be getting a break!), they'll ignore the fact these same politicians fight to end all regulation of businesses, from mine safety to minimum wage.
He loves Capitalism for him but demands Socialism for the rest of us unwashed masses.
Hurr durr… good one, you drive-by hack.
Michael Moore, making money off the useful idiots who actually think he gives a damn about the people he profiles.
Look at the comments on Mr. McAleer's link, they're almost funny to read yet sad how these people fawn over him and some are apologizing they could not make it.
You've got that wrong. It's not about being upset that someone who looks different from you is getting a break. It is about someone who looks different from you getting a break JUST because they look different from you.
Why on earth would he do that? The gig he's got beats working for a living.
Plus he can avoid all the little people who aren't worthy to dig KFC crumbs from the folds of his blob.
I used to hate NPR pledge drives. Then one time they mentioned I could go to their web site to donate.
So now when they beg, I go to their web site and give them a nice lengthy letter on exactly why I refuse to give them one red cent.
Why got to Cuba when you can just create a new Cuba right here?
I make it a rule to never trust any anti-capitalist.
Capitalism and free markets are We The People making our own purchasing decisions. Any one against that means they want to take my freedom of choice.
It's not whether or not a person works, that Moore hates. He hates anyone, regardless of class, who refuse to be led by the nose of our "betters."
It doesn't matter if they are millionaires or on welfare, as long as they want supremacy of the state at the expense of the individual, then you're okay in his book, and vice verse.
and a trough swings out from the back of the truck like a cement mixer, while Mikey tucks in his napkin…
"But for those of you who didn’t get to the theater, what’s your excuse?"
Umm… we don't like you?
No. He only hates when the food runs out.
"Honestly, when was the last time people made a phone call, never mind six, in the theater beside you? It simply doesn’t happen anymore (if it ever really did)."
To be honest, you sound like the one who hasn't been inside a theater in a while. It's pretty much the norm these days for people to yap on their cellphones during the film. When I saw the Book of Eli a few weeks ago, the joker a few seats down waited for the "Please Turn Off Your Cellphones" video, then proceeded to fire up his cellphone and talk on it through the ENTIRE MOVIE. In prehistoric times, an usher would shine a flashlight in his face and show him to the door. But people can get away with that stuff now. I hate going to the movies so much anymore that I won't do it unless it's a really, really, really good film.
Let's say that you're right — does what MM say make any sense whatsoever? If you are a filmmaker, do you spend your time pooping on the theater experience? Is MM just stupid, unhinged, off his meds, or what? And if you know that the theater is like that, why do you go? Just to give you ammunition in arguments like this one? Really? Are you always that illogical?
He cant fit in the seats in the movie theatres, so, No, he does not go.
Good Lord – who said anything about mine safety and the minimum wage? The point here was that the Left views "working class men and women" as simply prole-like economic beings without the mind, soul or perceptions to formulate opinions about anything else. As such they need a "vanguard elite" (Lenin's phrase) to make political decisons them. The Left clings to the discredited Marxist view (as apparantly you do too) that "workers" should be seen and not heard in anything that does not involve economics. In all other matters they are expected to toe the progressive line, cough up their union PAC funds and shut up.
Here's a documentary by two Canadians who began as an admirer of MM but concluded he was basically a liar.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0961117/
I read the same story last night.
With all his millions, you'd think this d-bag could buy a clue. The working class didn't go to the theaters because his films are CRAP!
I don't need an excuse to avoid his movies, it's a conscious decision on my part. Get over yourself MM!
Michael Moore is clownshoes.
The people he pretends to champion have not been his bread & butter, box office-wise, for any of his movies. It seems even the chattering liberal elite class is getting fatigued by his poorly researched, cookie-cutter cinematic orgies of hyperbolic lunacy.
Don't worry, Mr. Moore – as we speak some "concerned" teacher in some public school is wondering if they can get away with subjecting a captive audience of unfortunate students to your drivel. Maybe if you're lucky, your work will become a genuine part of the curriculum!
I'll welcome that, later. Moore's works are so full of unfounded predictions and straw man arguments presented as absolute certainties, that studying his work will go a long way towards exposing he and those of his ilk as nothing but the propagandists they are. Students and teachers actually driven to develop critical thinking skills will benefit from Moore's nefarious example.
The new theaters often jam phones when the movie starts. (I've encountered this myself.)
How about North Vietnam?
I read that a few days ago, but what struck me more was how he says that since Wal Mart IS carrying his dvd in which he takes on Wal Mart, it just proves how arrogant and greedy they are. Here's a situation where Wal Mart couldn't win either way. If they had chosen NOT to carry his dvd, he'd been saying how evil they are for trying to keep his "truth" from reaching the people. The guy makes his living doing this crap also, and in his letter he also claims to NOT be making a penny off of the dvd sales. I'd like to see the CNN fact checker take that statement on instead of worrying that Sarah Palin took a speaking fee at the tea party convention.
How hard is it to screw up, "I'll have everything on the menu?"
I read it too. The author failed to mention if the attackers were slowed down in their escape because of all the soda on the floor.
Nice try, wr1 but there was nothing bigoted about 12-String's comment.
Also, 12-String never mentioned his/her political party affiliation.
The question you ask is as old as the hills, Laura.
Moving to their ideological Edens would make sense and would require the employment of logic. Expecting any of the people you mentioned to use clear thinking, good, old-fashioned reason and logic, will no doubt lead to your disappointment.
A little before my time but in the 60's there was a saying: "America, love it or leave it."
I'm showing my solidarity with Moore's anti-capitalist views by refusing to support a vile, evil capitalist like Moore.
a meat thermometer? wtf? so is 98.6° rare, medium, well done, or what?
"Attention all cars, BOLO for man dressed like a chef."
nice to know you're an idiot with severe reading comprehension difficulties…
wr1 is the classic example of a "prole-like economic being without the mind, soul or perceptions to formulate opinions about anything else." lacking that ability, he kills time trolling here…
The author of this article is counting on the fact that there is so much anti-Moore sentiment that people will use this as an excuse to blindly criticise the man (Moore). Read Moore's comments again.
"But for those of you who didn’t get to the theater, what’s your excuse? Didn’t want to sit through 20 minutes of TV ads up on the screen before the movie started? Don’t like sitting next to people who have 6 important cell calls to make during the film? Feet get stuck to the floor after two hours of people spilling their 164 oz. sodas, thus preventing you from getting up when the film’s over?"
It was simply a lame attempt at humor. Nothing negative was stated or implied regarding the "working man" in his comments.
I am no fan of Moore (I did like "Roger and Me"), but seriously, you guys are so eager to lambast the guy for being overweight and un-American that you didn't bother to think about what he was actually saying before launching into the requisite tirades full of indignant disdain.
Read before reacting. Think before criticizing.
To the author: Slow news day?
*criticize
I cannot imagine why Michael Moore would hate anything about the country that made him a very rich man. Rich or poor, Michael Moore is full of hate for those around him.
Although Moore overdoes it in his description of a contemporary movie house the fact is that if you live in a major metropolitan area and have no choice but to see films at night, either during the week or on the weekend, you're more likely to run into crowded theaters and the annoyances that inevitably come with crowding.
I'm lucky enough to live outside a small size city and get to see films during the day at either of its two multiplexes so going to the movies is pleasant for me. But many aren't quite so fortunate.
The average liberal grunt must be dumb as dirt. Michael Moore just dials in his propaganda nowadays and collects their money. Seriously, his shtick is a carryover from the 1980s. Blame corporations for everything, play the class card, give them red meat, act as consumer activist/champion for the little guy against CEOs and the corporations.
Making a career about conditioning people to blame others for their problems takes no talent, skill, or intelligence.
Thank you, aharris for pointing out wr1's ridiculous idea of what affirmative action is.
I'm guessing from wr1's post that he/she leans to the left. So the assumption that anyone who opposes affirmative action is racist is not surprising. It is getting pretty tired though.
Or mowing his lawn.
When I was a little kid I loved to go to the movie theater. These were old theaters, but kept in immaculate condition. Even with out THX and digital projectors I loved the sights and sounds. I remember drinking Pepsi that tasted so cold and good without ice and no lid and eating Flicks the little chocolate candy disks that came in metallic colored tubes. The theater had, velvet seats, huge drapes that opened and closed in front of the screen, and tremendous architecture. Sometimes an organist would entertain before the movie began and there was always a cartoon before the movie started. Sometimes they even had double features. Flash forward to today. The description in the story that talks about the sticky floor, the commercials, the cell phone talkers. That's all true. When you say that you could eat your dinner off the floor do you mean because of all the discarded things spilled on them? The only part of the description missing was: the stadium seating in the concrete bunkers at the far end of the malls that smell like a musty gym locker or one of Michael Moores shirts after 10 minutes wear. We are speaking of new movie theaters less than 3 years old I've recently experienced. Now I avoid movie theater like the H1N1 virus and it's not because of working class people that visit them. Even when chamber #12 of the Cinimaramaplex is almost empty of people, they still smell bad, have sticky floors and you have to endure countless commercials before the movie. I'll give you the fact that people enjoy the trailers, especially when they turn out to be better than the feature movie.
lol. Go to Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg and you'll see exactly who he's talking about. Or any mall theater frequented by kids. That's why the wife and I wait for blu-ray or netflix on most movies these days.
Weird way to defend the bankers. Why not just defend them outright?
I pity you guys with the crappy theaters…L.A. still has plenty of good ones. I haven't had to deal with dirty floors in a long time, but the blast of light from texting smart phones still happens quite a bit.
Tolerance–the code word for those who have no standards but want to dignify their not having any standards by mislabelling their own moral, intellectual, patriotic, logcial, ethical, etc. vacuity. Well, at least you can read a talking-points list. I would have thought "the smart set" could have taught you more than that but, then, they don't know anything either.
Why don't all these socialist hypocrites go live in Cuba or Venezuela for Gawd sake, They would rather reap the rewards of Capitalism and bitch about how corrupt everyone is. Moore, Penn, Glover, Fonda, Griffin, JLo and the rest of the liberal morons who are spewing their venom against conservatism should have their citizenships revoked and their butts hauled off to any country that would take them. I'm sure that would be a short list.
Of course Michael Moore hates working people. He spent about twenty minutes working in an auto plant and then booked for the comforts of leftist politics and Mother Jones-style agitprop. He has been extremely shrewd in one area however. He discerned that the radical Left, for all their embrace of diversity, are deeply hostile to the actual, real-life working men they claim to represent. This hostility is on cultural grounds. Working men and women want decent working conditions sure, but many (possibly most) are also opposed to abortion, are committed gun-owners, are instictive patriots (and veterans) and deeply resent affirmative action. The Left is also deeply attached to the visual stereotype of "working men" as beer-swilling, overweight, unshaven couch potatoes. Michael Moore is the perfect fit for leftists in this situation. He "looks" like the kind of "working stiff" that fills the progressive imagination but is also virulently anti-capitalist, anti-gun, pro-abortion and willing to fawn over any lefty celebrity he meets. He enables the Left to mark the box labled "fat working class slob" on the diversity checklist.
Gentle Readers,
Dear Mr. McAleer,
You're fundamentally mistaken in your evaluation of Mr. Moore. He is a comedian, not a documantarian. He presents his feature-film comedy's as documentary's: that way, he can pay his crew at the lower documentary rate ( as opposed to feature film rate ) and he doesn't pay the people who appear in his films, as he would in a feature.
Mr. Moore makes phoney doumentaries to fatten the profits of the multi-national, multi-media conglomerates who pay him millions of dollars.
He is the biggest scab in Hollywood. He cheats his workers out of their due pay. He may actually respect them, but he doesn't pay them.
Kindest Regards,
I am,
John Lepant
Brighton
CO
Sure looks like he gets them right.
That's OK. I despise him too.
He is the masses isn't he? He's at least 3 people rolled into one ugly character that could have appeared in where the Wild Things Are.
If this was a joke, I'd have a great punch line. NO he refuses to go since the theatre forces him to buy two seats. Maybe that is Kevin Smith. Same thing just a few pounds difference
I prefer to title them Crockumentaries. They are a total crock and have nothing close to the truth in them.
Moore is so insanely delusional. 2009 set box office records!!
"Mr. Moore acknowledges that some may not have watched it in the movie theater because they were working too hard "
Funny, the economic situation didn't seem to effect all of the other flicks. His game is up. Only the fringes take any stock in anything that fruitbat says, and even they're skeptical. I would watch him compete in the Biggest Loser though.
I think Michael Moore was describing himself.
No,hewould not know if he has hair on his back or not. When was the last time he saw his knees. He is fat.slovenly anddribbles because his lips do not meet properly. How can you expect a millionaire to know how the norm lives. He just doesn't care.
you mean a fat anticapitolist with truckloads of money
The primary reason I don't go to the movies in a theater is the crappy stuff that Hollywood puts out these days. That being said, I agree with you that rude people and an overabundance of ads and trailers (after I've plopped down $10 for the freaking matinee!) are added factors in keeping me away. I can't stand Michael Moore and would never put a dollar in his pocket, but I think this rant is indeed over the top…
The whole theme of any Michael Moore film and the left in general is to despise those you want to help and save them from themselves.
So Michael Moore ridicules the people he defends by insulting them for not watching the movie he made that champions them? It's like the snake that eats it's own tail. Only in this case, its Michael Moore with his head shoved up his rear…
Don't waste your breath on all this vitriol toward this man. By the reception his latest film got, he's on his way out. Just smile and wave at him as he goes.
Yes Michael Moore hates working people. And the reason nobody went to see it in the theatres? Because it's guano.
As much as I despise Moore's hackery and propaganda, he's got you on this one. Not sure which magical cinemas Mr McAleer has been going to, but the last few times I have had the unfortunate displeasure of spending time in a "regular" movie house watching a commercial film were exactly as described by Moore, or worse. Which is why I stay away now, or opt for rep houses showing older films that cell phone fetishists ignore.
Gee, you think that maybe Moore has EARNED this attitude?
