Serve.gov: Buffy Wicks Wasn’t Joking About ‘Being Part of This Administration’
by Patrick CourrielcheService to our nation is a noble effort, which is why some may view Serve.gov in a good light. How could anyone think that promoting national service is a bad thing?
Well, when our government uses “service” as a mechanism to keep their volunteers active in government, it is not so noble.

I claimed last week that the White House Office of Public Engagement’s rationale for promoting service was to keep Obama’s campaign volunteers active. I also claimed that the White House was using Serve.gov to manage those volunteers and as a mechanism to acquire new volunteers for their use. To support that claim I referenced a statement from Buffy Wicks, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, on the now infamous August 10th conference call. Wicks explained to the call participants, an arts group that worked on Obama’s 2008 election campaign, the White House’s rationale for using service:
“…part of my role [at the White House] is working on service, and so when we were thinking about how do we take a lot of this energy that’s out there, how do we translate folks who have just been engaged in electoral politics and engage them in really the process of governing, of being part of this administration in a little bit of a different way because politics is one thing and governing is something totally separate, we really saw service as the platform by which we can do that.”
Buffy Wicks didn’t state that national recovery was the rationale for encouraging service. She conveyed that the White House was interested in transitioning partisans from the election cycle into the administration, and using “service” as the mechanism for that transition.
Glenn Beck picked up on the significance of this statement last night, but to further support this claim I went to Serve.gov and did a search for “Democrat.” What I found was 20 pages of volunteering opportunities that were related to Democratic causes (check here). There are probably far more than 20 pages of listings, however that is the maximum that any search term will display. In contrast, the search term “Republican” returns a paltry 2 pages, of which many are still Democratic cause listings that contain the word “Republican” somewhere in the description.
If Serve.gov were a registered voter, my money would be on it wearing a donkey pin.

I am very weary of State Sponsored volunteerism and the support and push for it… It really does conjure up images of propoganda posters from Soviet Russia, Fascist Germany and Communist China… I prefer to find my own organizations to support, sponsor and volunteer for… and I need help finding one than that's what my Church and/or the United Way is for…. We don't need the Government to push this.
I find it very interesting how lopsided the opportunities are between Democrats and Republicans. They really do want to keep the conservatives away anyway…they want an army of libs (TO DO AS THEY'RE TOLD) …Of course this whole thing is a spring board for a bunch of "Snuggie wearing drones" to do the bidding of the White House.
Give it a day or two and when you re-investigate the serve.gov website you will notice that the search engine will cough up many more "republican" causes. That is one major problem with the Internet…it's too easy to "re-spin" your web.
LMAO. One of the Republican listings was *canvassing for Creigh Deeds*. How about a big bowl of hell no?
The further that we get into this Presidential term, the more that I wonder about that campaign phrase of his "Change that you can believe in".
This enforces my firm belief that the only absolute, in regards to politics, is that All Politicians LIE.
Draw a large glass of Kool Aid and go to serve.gov…..LMAO
I don't see this as such a big deal myself.
First off, they're trying an old democrat political trick. John Edwards did the same thing when he set up a phony foundation to "study" poverty. What he really did was keep his key campaign staffs on board, so they'd all be ready, willing and able when he started is campaign in 2007. This is just to keep all their little Obamatrons on board, and revved up for 2010 elections.
Secondly, to some extent all politicians try to do this.
Thirdly, I'm damn glad to see a group of fired up conservatives, especially artists, who are going balls to the walls over this, so I don't have to worry too much about it. This is exactly what a loyal opposition is supposed to do. Press those in powers constantly. It used to be the press's job, and now you all are taking over.
Bravo! Encore!
When "liberals" (i.e., State-socialists) talk about "volunteering" and "contributing to the community," I like to tell them that I already involved in that, via the NRA, the National Tax Payers Union, and various "Tea Parties." As Bill Ayers might say: "That blows their minds, man." Volunteering for pro-freedom causes and activisities isn't exactly what The Hive has in mind.

I tell you that they will need all the volunteers they can get when the masses turn on this fascist president. They will lose as freedom will be motivated and sheep will act like….sheep
Hey don't diss the snuggie…. I love the snuggie…
I bet you never answer the door wearing it! LOL
I am very wary however that they've really seen an uptick in volunteerism. Liberals love to talk about their compassion but at the end of the day, what they really want is something Ebenezer Scrooge advocated when some men came knocking around Christmas time asking for alms for the poor. Scrooge said, "Don't we have the poor houses to take care of them?" Indeed. Liberals want compassion for all but rarely lift a finger and want all 'rich conservatives' to get another tax to pay for it. That's why conservatives way out give liberals in private, compassionate causes.
I want a cammo snuggie, so I can dissapear while wearing it.
Now this "push for service" that we're suffering through this week on scripted television has hit the comics page. Luann is the worst, with the characters mentioning Obama by name and saying they are "heeding the president's call." I liked the strip, but I won't continue with it. Then, you have Opal Pickles saying, "We need to volunteer. It's time we gave back to our community." Giving back to the community. I'm getting tired of that phrase about quick. The Pickles are an old retired couple. The community didn't give them the house in which they are living. The community didn't give them the clothes on their backs or the food in their stomachs. They worked and they earned it and it was the community that benefitted from their labor either directly if they produced a good or service or indirectly by virtue of the fact that they weren't drawing welfare. I won't drop Pickles like I will drop Luann (unless they continue the storyline much longer), but it's embarrassing that the comics creators are heeding this call.
This just gets more absurd by the day. I would like to thank this administration for making this 19 year old into a true cynic, and I mean that in a bad way.
nope, I don't… because it's too long for me to walk in… and I probably wouldn't even if it wasn't too long.. *lol*
But they are uber comfy… at least to me anyway.
except they may have Google or Yahoo! cache against them…. much like the China gymnastics team did last year.
Are they serious…. What lame-brain thinks that a Republican anywhere is going to Volunteer for a Democrat? Are they really that mentally retarded?
Buffy Wicks…
What patrician upbringing has the erstwhile Ms Wicks been fortunate to have? Certainly one of priviledge.
NO ONE named Buffy came up the hard way. So, her east coast establishment wealthy heritage ahs freed her from the responsibility of earning a real living to embrace Socialism.
Which will, of course, impoverish her family ultimately.
That's why they are called 'useful IDIOTS'…
That chick reeks of hippie.

I think Buffy Wickes should take up training ice skating bears. I hear they're looking for a new trainer.
Yo Otter.
That picture of Buffy reeks of more than just hippie. Jim Jones never made it to 1600 PA Ave but if he did that photo wouldn't be far behind sans the laptop.
Full court press Patrick. They are hitting back twice as hard. We now must strike back THRICE as hard.
Take a look at this, take a look at thisers.
I want snuggies for my doggies.
Serve sounds too much like servitude. As red-blooded Americans it is normal we recoil at that word. God Almighty insists we serve only Him.
Keep hitting these Marxists with everything you've got , Patrick. No quarter for those who seek to destroy our way of life. No quarter. No mercy.
The only part of the newspaper in the company breakroom worth reading is the comics. And just this week, many strips are all evangelizing Obama and service (Dilbert has remained untainted so far). And there will always be Chris Muir.
Is there nothing that can escape the deleterious machinations of the left?
It's unfortunate that they are actually wasting a golden opportunity to get people involved. So much energy wasted on a self-serving agenda and it has only served to drive people away with a taint of mistrust. And when that tactic fails there is always force!
Another attempt by the corruptocrats trying to scam the system which just hurts fellow Americans. Traitors
One thing I discovered is that the web site that actually has the information (and apparently is what is searched), http://www.allforgood.org, has a mechanism for posting requests for volunteers. So it may simply be a matter of Republicans and Independents posting requests to even out the "opportunities". Of course it is possible that the website operators will delete such requests — at which time the case can really be made.
No SERVITUDE to Burqa al Hussein.
Give me liberty or give me death but don't try to give me healthscare!
This was an Obama plan, which he talked a lot about, during the primary and the presidential campaign. It is a way for him to get his CIVILIAN ARMY and you really should be worried! His "plan" is for "volunteerism" ( really indentured servitude ! ) to be MANDATORY for every child, through college, with a year or more, after college, that these young adults MUST serve! And he also has plans for everyone over the age of 50, too, if they have managed to survive the death panels of ObamaCare rationing. They'll have to "serve" too, if they want to get Social Security and Medicare .
Noyt to quibble/pick a nits, but Dickens never wrote "poorhouses", since there were no such things………….it was WORKHOUSES. People were either sent to the workhouse or debtors' prison. Dickens' father was sent to debtors' prison , Charles was sent to work ( recall the blacking bottling plant in "David Copperfield" ), both things which haunted him throughout his life and which were grist for many of his novels.
Since Scrooge was already paying for workhouses ( as some of our taxes go for welfare ), he felt that being asked for still more money was outrageous. Now, please bear in mind that Charles Dickens, amongst other things, was a rabid/raging uber LIBERAL; almost a Fabian Socialist/Marxist, filling his novels with his one sided opinions.
I've always been a big fan of his works, but I must call a spade a spade and that's why I haves posted the true facts about the man.
Mallard Fillmore is always good.
Buffy Wicks is the face of evil…..so cute.

I'm not convinced. Americans in general don't like being told much what to do. Look at what's going on now, most of it is highly abstract, talking about things that most people don't understand, or worry about, and see how much trouble he's already stirring up.
The federal government tried to force people to "serve" as they deem appropriate, and we're going to see all hell break lose.
Americans just won't do it. I'm convinced. Because the people who would be at the front lines enforcing it, would be the same people who would be refusing to do it.
I agree, keep the heat on the administration, keep checking on them every second for the next 3 and a 1/4 years. Keep on them. But I don't think this is going much further than web pages, dumb tv shows, and it's all over my comic page in this morning's news paper.
Don't lose heart man. The fact that you are 19 and able to see through the BS is a good news story. We have a bright future, it just doesn't look that way right now.
Good Call.
