Im listening, I AM GOING TO BE SICK
The smell of money has also corrupting the snob and partisan elitist artists playing politics. What could go wrong?
I'm a bit conservative; instead of supporting art that is shocking, wrenching, or nerve-twitching, I believe art should be uplifting and inspirational (there is a enough meaness and sordid nature in the world that I don't have to go searching for it).
Which goes to show how subjective art is. The US doesn't have a culture policy, nor should it. A culture policy is too easily abused if one tries to define art; therefore, the NEA *must* resort to funding *anything* in the name of fairness and equality. I believe that artists should make art, not polemics. All the so-called 'cutting-edge' grants are defended by freedom of speech instead of artistic achievement. Provocative art? The NEA has become beholden to anger, violence, and social upheaval. Apologies to anyone who depends on NEA funding, but a cultural policy funded by tax dollars is merely an easy tool for demagoguery.

Wow! Looks like some changes may be coming down the line for the NEA. Handing out gov. dollars to fund the liberal/Obama agenda? Nope, no conflict of interest there…
The possibility of this sort of thing was EXACTLY why the Republicans (and conservative Democrats) were concerned about the establishment of the NEA to begin with, and why NEA adminstrators used to be scrupulously politically neutral.
Sounds like what Hitler did before killing all the Jewish people
Corruption to the core where is the Justice Department?
I guess these are the ones responsible for the Obama/Christ crucifixion (the thorny crown one) picture a few months ago? Disgusting.
Do young people today even know what you call government influence of things like the arts and the media? FASCISM.
Let me help Obama with his response:
"This transcript is obviously racist. I happen to know that the audio recorders were turned away from five other NEA calls and they just shopped around until the found a low level operative. I'm suing FOXNews and Andrew Breitbart. NEA? I'm not sure I've ever heard of that organization. This is not the NEA I know. If this was real news, it would have been on CNN."
Of course, for best effect he should mix and match and spread these sentences out over the next few days. Eventually people will forget about it.
Good luck Peter, Your campaign hasn't started yet, and we will make sure it doesn't. America doesn't want this propaganda and they will stand behind Fox and Breitbart.
MY SON WILL MAKE UP HIS OWN MIND, NOT YOUR PROPAGANDA
Here is a big fat F you for trying to brainwash my children
Peter,
I fear they have already brainwashed you as well. If so, remember you are just a pawn in the over all goal of driving membership up for SEIU and other unions.
oh ya, STOP being a PIKER on our society, get a real job
PLEASE, fix this dreadful embedded format for the transcript!
If it can't be saved it to disk for excerpting and annotation, it's next to worthless for media (or personal) purposes. As if the fact that the text is squint-inducing light gray weren't bad enough, having to wade through someone else's multi-color highlighting is not just annoying, the red highlighter makes the underlying text illegible.
How on earth do you expect to get any mileage here?
How many times do you think anyone is going to sit through an audio? Who is going to try matching something quotable to a transcript they have to read online here or register elsewhere to use whatever limited (propriety?) tools might be provided — also in online form? I'm certainly not about to manually type out something I want to use — or jump through the required hoops, just to find out if the document server allows a copy/paste.
As to substance, I understand that this is Mr. Courrielche's story, but it unfortunately reads like a rehash of the story we've already heard, not the dot connecting bombshell it ought to be. When you've got a major expose, and hyped a major expose, you need something a lot more muscular than this!
This is HITLER/CHICAGO style propaganda at it's best people.

For those who see nothing wrong with this, let's simplify it a bit. You pay taxes. You're running for mayor. How would you feel if part of your taxes went to the election campaign of your oponent? This is what is happening here. Your taxes, whether you like it or not, is going to the NEA who is actively campaigning for Obama.
HaHa Buffy!
What a dumb name. Does she have a sweater around her neck too?
"You are the thought leaders"
busy looking for Hilter Youth propaganda now
So, basically, they think people look to the "arts" community to tell them how to think? What a bunch of idiots. I'm sure Obama's base voters don't even know what the National Endowment for the Arts does or that it even exists. They think by putting up propaganda posters all over the place that people will be "moved" to some sort of vague volunteerism as well as moved to promote the President's agenda. The only way most of them have been "moved" to support health care is if they were given matching shirts, a free meal, and paid 8 or 10 bucks an hour. That's certainly not volunteerism.

Peter, Your humorous satire did not escape me. Oh, but would it be true that the more Obama spoke, the more the issues would go away! As it is, though, he meets the criterian of being insane. Insanity is to keep doing exactly what you've been doing and expect a different result. Every time he speaks, his ratings go down. So what did he do? A media blitz!! The only reason to watch is to see which corner of his mouth the lies spew from this time!
There are only 4 things we need to pound Congress with everyday!
1) LIMITED GOVERNMENT: get out of my sodas, the water in San Joaquin, and the fine arts, etc!
2) BALANCED BUDGET: and do not spend ONE PENNY until you correct this sinful, unethical, unthinkable burden on our children.
3) END CORRUPTION: How's that 'line by line' search and removal of port/earmarks/special interests going?
4) HONOR THE CONSTITUTION: Honor the REAL Bill of Rights, not the Progressive's "Second Bill of Rights" You don't owe me a job, a home, education or healthcare. Those are state responsibilities.

So you believe any government agency's efforts to encourage volunteerism and community service on a local level via available regional resources should be vanquished. Do you also believe that any person who attempts to initiate a positive change where they live by volunteering to help others in their community should be discouraged from participating in such selfless acts? With the exception of national calamities like Katrina, Ike and the World Trade Towers in NYC of course.

Look at page 21 – "And we're looking towards September 11th and what that day means, its going to be the first time ever it's declared by President Obama a national day of service and remembrance……."
Have these people no soul?? It is all politics and agenda.
cody project: PICKING UP TRASH A & TURNING IT INTO USELESS ART? ARE YOU SERIOUS? YOU THINK THIS IS SERVICE? DON'T THE PRISONERS PICK UP TRASH? WHY DO WE NEED COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS, THINKING MORE HIGHLY OF THEMSELVES THAN THEY OUGHT, TELLING US, WE THE PEOPLE THAT PICKING UP TRASH & TURNING IT INTO A USELESS PIECE OF art IS WORTH ANYTHING?!!! OH MY GOODNESS! DO THESE PEOPLE EVEN LISTEN TO THEMSELVES, HOW ABSURD THEY SOUND, BLOWING SMOKE UP EACH OTHERS REAR ENDS. I WISH I HAD BETTER WORDS FOR THIS GARBAGE!!!!!
Here's the deal: if it hadn't been a grant-giving agency specifically targeting people to aid a Presidential agenda, I would applaud the sentimenta about volunteering.
So, no- and stop using hyperbole.
The multitudes of us who managed to volunteer for years without goverment encouragement- simply because it was the right thing to do- are duly disgusted.
As an artist I am utterly disgusted by this revelation. But not surprised. I have always been uneasy about government (tax payer) funds going to NEA. It is tough in the art world and getting today's society to see the importance and value of art is a real battle, but as soon as the gov. sticks its nose in freedom and integrity is compromised, and people become more distant from the arts. Indeed this is classic propaganda and I urge everyone to spread the word about this latest, but certainly not last, step towards "1984" .
Yeah, lose the red or make it much lighter. I had almost gave up trying to read it.
Thanks.

No thanks, Chicago, can't you think of a better idea. I think Obama wants to keep the black kids down as far as he can and take all the credit.
And community service is such a horrible thing, right? Very, very, VERY bad. Could result in the end of America, I bet. And they want ART to reflect COMMUNITY SERVICE? And encourage children to HELP OTHERS? How horrible. I am disgusted, and plan to move to Mexico. I AM NOT GOING TO HELP OTHERS, AND THE GOVERNMENT ADVOCATION OF SERVICE IS JUST PLAIN WRONG!

I'm a Conservative who studied design/architecture in college, and this kind of liberal thinking is obviously nothing new.
If you are artsy and Conservative, you get treated like an outcast by the artsy community. They assume they have the monopoly on creative, "freethinking" because they are so "openminded" and radical. You're not "cool" if you are a Conservative artist. They are the biggest bunch of sheep out there despite how "unique" they think they are.
I'd love to see one of their artists do a rainbow-colored portrait of Obama in filthy pigsty slopping a bunch of swine.
What is ART?
'Tis not art a crow to tether, or to ruffle an owl's feather…
But, 'tis ART, exceedingly fine, to seat one's arse on a porcupine.

I would like to press *6 and mute the whole lot. These people are planning the socializing of America. They are talking about molding every governmental department into their brand of thought. OMG… one speaker says "we are actually running the government"… are you all listening to this? Are you scared yet? Are you doing anything about it??? God bless America…
We need to register projects on the government web site. Let's have our own groups working on helping unemployed Citizens becoming small business owners. Let's get something going in each of our own neighborhoods to wake up the populace as to what is really going on here. Do you think many people really know about all this? We need to start educating others and sending them here. ?Any ideas?
As the saying goes "Election have consequences".
Of course the new administration and all its employees "are actually running the government".
Who would you expect to run it?
And after reading the transcript, I fail to see how getting people to volunteer in their communities is a real bad thing.
Now we know who to blame for everything… "Buffy" is the one responsible for making sure the government runs smoothly…

What that looks like legally?…bare with us as we learn the language so that we can speak to each other safely… “ This was a lengthy conference call with 75 NEA affiliated artists.
