As a parent, I have no problem with television shows or films that actually promote good ideas or values to the audience. I certainly do not let such forms of popular entertainment replace my parental duties, but their is nothing wrong with a bit of 'boring', family friend entertainment. Although my kids are a bit too young or too old to watch the series.

I think that sometimes popular entertainment can be influential for people who do not often think for themselves or even people who do. I think its a bit more complicated then it is played out to be, but I certainly do not want most kids playing Grand Theft Auto or watching a pornographic film. If media had no ability to influence or decisions or behaviors, advertising would not be too effective in the marketplace.

Most of the time, I tend to watch television shows or films that reflect or reinforce some, if not all, of my own beliefs or values. For example, I loved watching, 'Quantum Leap' during its --too brief -- run and generally like or agreed with its messages. '

come on now,
the first season was good and honestly it was really symbolizing its purpose as a tv show.. TO CONVINCE TEENS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF SEX!.. but the thing is now its getting to a point where it is supporting sex. producers and creators of the show have to get their facts and purposes straight , they came into this with 2 goals 1- was to make money and 2- to teach kids a lesson but its only turned out to be to make money !!.... if your gonna keep showing these teens having sex with eachother''s boyfriends and girlfriends... than stop with the advertisments with the actresses and actors about talking about abstenence..... you may be highlighting the life of a typical american teenager ( not all but some of those teenagers)... but you sure arent doing anything to change the way a typical american teen is judged

I agree. The producers and directors have free reign. They are stupid. Anything goes, and also there is a lot of stereotyping. If a kid is tall, he or she is a bully, if chubby, they eat too much, if black, they are act sturpid, and on and on. A Christian cannot stand by their principles and values. Very disappointing, Brenda Hampton. I loved 7th Heaven, this is terrible.

My 14 year old loves this show too but I think they go too far, touching on subjects that are inappropriate for a younger audience. I am sure the characters are not teenagers, but they are potraying teenagers using a lot of grown-up language. I am rather surprised at Brenda Hampton. Do they not take into consideration the fact that at 8:00 pm, all kids of all ages are gathered around the family room? Personally, I think this show is appalling. It does not show anything but the stupidy of adults. There is a reality show on MTV about teens having babies and that is a real life lesson teacher. It teaches kids to stay far far away from teen pregnancy and "secrets of a teenager" glorifies it. What is the world coming to?

Have you seen the show recently? I don't think it is appropriate for 13 year old girls. I did, but not any longer. The parents are unbelievable, especially Ben's father. No parent would be so understanding. And since you have one girl and guy having sex all the time (Adrian and Ricky), and everybody else thinking about doing it, why oh why did they have to have the one and only Christian give in to having sex with her boyfriend. Sure, we all know the likely hood of girls waiting until marriage these days, but you know, with a billion people on our planet, I do believe there are some girls that will wait until marriage. But, as usual, TV only shows one side, it is impossible for anyone to believe that some people have will power. In tonight's episode you had Ben's future step mom telling him he should have sex with Amy. After all you can't get married without first knowing whether or not you are good together in bed. And the father didn't seem to have a problem with this. And then there's Grace's Christian mom, who hasn't been grieving long, suddenly hot to trot. I'm just saying Christian's always get a raw deal on TV.

Mr. Gillespie's cheap shots at Molly Ringwald's appearance exemplify the type of gratuitously mean-spirited writing that caused me to stop reading Reason.com (of which Mr. Gillespie is the editor-in-chief). Reason's writers and commenters specialized in this sort of juvenile assault. I hope Big Hollywood doesn't plan to descend to the same level.
