Charlie Rangel- gasbag, sure- but a fairly reasonable sort who could work with the other side. Decorated Korean war veteran. His crimes are of the 'beenin office wat too long' variety- the sense of entitlement.
Paterson strikes us as a feckless bureaucrat out of his league- but not a crook, either.
No matter.
They are both toast. And if the stink of corruption taints the Democrats- besides the bad policy-
THEY are toast as well…
Charlie Rangel is as crooked as they come. He's just another entrenched politician that represents an enclave that returns him to office no matter what.
He owns rental property in the Caribbean that he never declared the income from. He's got multiple rent controlled apartments in NYC using one for his campaign office. All illegal.
I can respect him for his service in the army, but his actions as an elected official are an abomination before a land supposedly ruled by law.

Just an FYI, I heard on NPR's morning edition, Sharpton is calling an emergency meeting of the Harlem power brokers to decide if they will still support Patterson.
His base is about to turn on him, I'd say 70% chance he'll resign.
as said, we are not exonerating him- but he did pass as a reasonable man in congress- for a Dem- and his sins are those of entitlement, and believing their are two sets of rules. He's not the only one there who believes that… but on points your argument is valid.
