The major is a classic behind-the-lines officer, afraid to risk his neck in any way or to lose any of his creature comforts, contemptious of combat soldiers, yet he would be the first to brag to the people back home about his combat zone exploits. This type of person has been the scourge of combat soldiers for all time.
That is why I admire the US Marines practice that every marine is a rifleman. They got the right idea.

Excellent report from an experienced and brave reporter. Thanks, Michael. The Media Ops "children" are similar to media people everywhere who fail to realize that Media is an Art. And it takes years of experience – like that of Mr. Yon – to know how to make Art for a large audience. Thus, if the selfish Media Ops folks would travel with Mr. Yon, then they would learn how to do their job.
