Michael Moore Trashed My Movie… My Response
by Michael WilsonMichael Moore wrote a piece for the Huffington Post last week. I didn’t find out about it until today because I was doing more important things like volunteering and watching my 6 year-old daughter’s all-girl hockey team beat up on the boy teams here in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. While I was busy watching Kylie score 6 goals in 5 games, including the only 2 in a 2-0 victory, Michael Moore was once again telling us how we should be like Europe, and how most Americans agree with him and blah, blah, fuckity blah. He also mentioned my movie by name. It’s enough to make a guy go bugnutty.
I appreciate the plug Mike gave me, but I need to lay some things out. You see, since that movie came out, I’ve become one of the people that you would think would agree with Moore. I’m about to divulge deeply personal information, but I think it’s relevant to the conversation… and a friend recently reminded me that, as Lenny Bruce said, the purpose of art is to stand on stage naked. In the last 4 years, I haven’t made a dime from my movie, though it’s grossed a LOT of dough. I’ve been divorced. I’ve been audited by the IRS. I’ve lost my home and have no health care insurance. Life has generally been in the crapper. You’d think that I’d be joining the vast majority of people Moore cites who want to stick it to the rich and who are lining up to get free shit from the government. There’s one problem: I’m an American.
Americans don’t ask for handouts. We don’t hope for the demise of others (even the evil rich) so we can simply feel better about our unfortunate circumstances. We don’t want a charismatic leader to be our father-figure. In fact, when we fall, most of us simply want the liberty to pick ourselves up and try again without “help” from any government bureaucrat. We just want the chance to fight. To rage against the odds. And maybe, just maybe, a chance to become one of the evil rich. If we work really hard, maybe we can be filthy, evil and rich.
It’s been a struggle to put food on the table at times in the last year, and I mean that literally, not in the cliché way. Yet I have no doubt that this nation will afford me the opportunity to stand and fight as long as I can, as hard as I can, so that my two beautiful children can have the opportunities they deserve (and if Kylie gets a full-ride hockey scholarship, I’ll just give her the college fund when she graduates). I’m working as hard as I can to get back on my feet. I believe in myself, in my talent, and my resolve… and not the government.
Michael Moore has a fundamental misunderstanding of what the United States of America is supposed to be. These ideas are uncomplicated and unhidden. They are clearly laid out by the founders in the documents that are the foundation of this country (The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution). They’re written in plain English and make a lot of sense. The founders, like Adams and Jefferson were kind enough to supplement their formal ideas with letters, essays and the Federalist Papers. They envisioned a very different country than does Michael Moore, or indeed, President Obama.
The United States is a Republic… a representative democracy. One that is not governed by mob rule, but by the cool, slow workings of what were supposed to be citizen legislators (i.e. they would take a short break from their REAL jobs and head to Washington, address a few issues and head home). More importantly, the founders envisioned a nation that would provide a very limited government, believing that the more local the control, the better. They would shit themselves if they looked at the federal government today.
In his Huffington Post piece, Moore calls my film an “attack documentary.” Clearly, he hasn’t seen it (though my offer to watch it in the home theater I built in my basement still stands, microwave popcorn and all). It’s been lauded by folks like Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper (Two thumbs up), Robert Koehler of Variety, Chris Hewitt and Jeff Strickler. None of these guys are neo-cons. And you know why they liked the flick? Because it wasn’t an attack-job. It was a film as much about morality and ethics as it was about Moore himself. But Michael Moore is so wrapped up in being right, that he couldn’t stand to see a flick that DARED to question whether it’s okay to admit being wrong. He also says that I was part of the “Republican attack machine.” Which is just crazy, since I’m not a Republican (I’m an independent and a libertarian), and I was never part of any clandestine meetings in any smoke-filled rooms.
Moore goes on to say that the vast majority of Americans believe that (in bold, with my responses below):
The American public believes that health care is a right and not a commodity.
I don’t have healthcare insurance and it’s not my right. It’s my responsibility to provide healthcare to my children, so that’s a priority and they have it. I can’t afford to buy it for myself from the people who sell it, so it’s not mine. An easy way to remember what is a right and what isn’t is this: A right is something you don’t need someone else to give you. Therefore, since healthcare is a service, just like a fine dinner at a fine restaurant, isn’t it sort of wrong to force other people to give you money for it at the point of a gun? Trust me, the IRS doesn’t fuck around. If I needed to go to the doctor, should I demand money from each of my neighbors at gunpoint to pay for it? That’s what Universal Health Care looks like.
They want tougher environmental laws and believe that global warming is real, not a myth.
It’s getting dark right now in Minnesota. I am looking at the data from the last 4 minutes, and sure enough, it’s getting darker. At this rate, I won’t be able to see anything in about an hour and it’ll be a black void by tomorrow, continuing forever. That’s the kind of alarmist junk that’s passed for science in the global warming debate. It’s also been warming on Mars and Jupiter, but they don’t drive Ford Explorers there. Recently, sun activity has been slowing down and it’s been cooling for the last 8 years. There might be many explanations and they don’t all involve punishing capitalism. And if we are responsible, that may not be all bad. Have you ever been to my hometown of Minneapolis in the middle of winter? Sometimes I leave my truck running in the driveway all night in hopes that it’ll warm up to -37 degrees. Also, as a Minnesotan, I like the outdoors. Camping, fishing, etc. So I’ll do my part to keep the environment clean. And most other people will too. Without Big Daddy Government fucking with our mojo.
They believe that the rich should be taxed more.
So what? It’s morally wrong. It’s wrong to take money from people at the point of a gun (make no mistake, every tax dollar is collected by force) just because you think they can afford it. Nearly 80% of millionaires are self-made and worked hard to get there. How unfortunate would it be to find that you work really hard, get rich through your hard work and have it all taken away because other people think you should spend it on them? The Founders abhorred income tax and found it morally reprehensible. They also said explicitly that any taxes (if necessary) should be borne equally by all, so after cleaning their pants from seeing the size of government, they’d shit them again when they saw the “progressive” income tax tables.
Plus, Michael Moore is rich and Michael Wilson is poor. I have a feeling Moore doesn’t want to “spread the wealth around” to me. In Moore’s world (whether he realizes it or not), all movie revenues should be shared among filmmakers regardless of success. So since Michael Moore made millions on “Fahrenheit 9/11” and there were “over a half dozen attack documentaries” on him, I (and each of the other filmmakers) should get a check for… I don’t know, how about $3Million? Hell, I’d take $250k. Probably less. It’s a tough economy. But when I run out to the mailbox to get that big stack of bills, I have yet to see a check from Dog Eat Dog Films. And that’s okay. Michael Moore shouldn’t have to give me his money. He worked hard for it.
They want to go after the crooks on Wall Street who got us into this mess and the politicians who enabled them.
Yep. I’m all for going after the crooks on Wall Street and the politicians. But there’s a much better way to do it than dog and pony show Congressional hearings. In America, we allow crappy companies to fail. We also hold elections. Moore is calling for a witch hunt that makes people feel better, and doesn’t do ANYTHING to solve the problem. You want justice? Let the banks and Wall Street firms and Moore’s beloved GM fail. Smarter, better, more efficient, better managed companies will take their place in an effort to meet demand. And those politicians? Like Chris Dodd and Barney Frank? The guys in government mostly responsible for the mortgage crisis? Vote them out of office! Problem solved.
They want more money invested in education, science, technology and infrastructure — not in more tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
Do they? Well, given that more and more money has been pumped into education without any results, and that there is not ONE study linking per-pupil expenditures to an increase in success, it seems like a pretty stupid investment. Science and technology should be private, unless it’s for a military function. Those things are sold to the public later in the form of wonderful drugs, cell phones with lots of cool functions and myriad other products. Why should we pay for product research for the big companies Moore so reviles? Infrastructure might make sense but I’m a nut and think roads and bridges should be private.
They believe that, whether Democrats or Republicans have been in power, wealthy corporations have been calling the shots for the past few decades and the American people’s voices have not been heard as their country has slowly been driven into the ground. Our politicians and our media have been bought and paid for by the highest bidders and we don’t trust them anymore.
This is just populist crap that really doesn’t mean anything. There are more media outlets and more opportunity for our voices to be heard than ever before. If a guy from Coon Rapids can make a movie that gets seen by hundreds of thousands of people, then mentioned by an Oscar-winner on a blog that’s read by millions of people… well, case in point.
Finally — they want us to get the hell out of Iraq and to investigate the criminals who sent us there for fictitious reasons.
There are a lot of people who think Moore is right, and as a strict constitutionalist, I actually tend to agree with him. I don’t like war. I don’t think anyone really does. But as a former Marine (not a good Marine, but a Marine nonetheless), I can also say that the people who fight believe in the fight, and know what they’re fighting for. It’s what they are trained to do, and they are the finest fighting force in the history of planet Earth. I hate when people like Moore show disdain for them.
Moore loves to stir the pot. And he has as much fun doing it as Rush Limbaugh. The part of me that loves the Big American Conversation respects that part of Moore. This is an arena of ideas. The problem is that Moore doesn’t study the Constitution or the Founders. He doesn’t believe in individuality and rugged determination, but sees individuality as greed. Individuals make this country work. Moore doesn’t believe in what America IS, he believes in how he wants it to be. And that isn’t America.
Moore is right about one thing. Many Americans are so terrified and weak that we’re begging for more government to help us. Don’t do this. Great nations are almost never destroyed from the outside, but decay from within… because they become weak and afraid and beg to become enslaved. We’re on the path.
I’m going to keep fighting. I have a small marketing business, TV stuff in development and a film on the way. I’m not going to ask for help. I don’t want a bailout. I’m going to bail myself out. It’s what we do. It’s what we’ve always done. Times are tough and we’ve taken some shots. But courage is not defined by those who fought and never fell, but by those who fought, fell, and rose again. It’s time for courage. From you, from me, and from the whole nation.

Here in the Church of Independent Entrepreneurs, all the voices said "Amen."
Thank you for sharing your private struggles. I'm with you on those financial battlefields. And no one, not the government-issued armor, not the populist attack plans, not even a soaring teleprompter-aided speech from the commander, is going to save us from our personal war. It's me. It's God. And it's the strength to take the hits, as well as the misses, and keep advancing forward.
Michael Moore doesn't miss an opportunity to be relevant. Unfortunately for him, he's not.

[...] Moore’s View of Americans Over at Big Hollywood, Michael Wilson has a post (language warning) taking on Michael Moore, in the course of which he reproduces a great list of [...]
Now that the Dems are in power, Moore is doing everything to try to be legitimate. If he was such a thinker, why hasn't BO tapped him to be Secretary of Commerce? Or HHS? Then he could put all of his moronic ramblings into policy? Not even BO wants to go there.
Micheal, I am in the same boat. If not for my wonderful and believing wife, and so far, the royalties from my works have been a bit dismal, I'd be scrambling too. But I believe in myself. I will not take a dime from the Govt – the NEA, etc., If my works can't make it on it's own merits, than so be it – but, I will always try. You said it best " I’m working as hard as I can to get back on my feet. I believe in myself, in my talent, and my resolve… and not the government." You will make it sir! You've got the perspecacity to achieve great things –
Keep up the good fight!!!
Nice work Michael – these "truths" need to be refuted wherever we encounter them.
http://retakeeducation.wordpress.com/2009/03/09/m...
Thank you Michael. You are a true American, sir, and you make me damn proud to be an American too. As far as Mr. Moore goes…if he calls your film an "attack documentary", well…he's written enough of them and if you don't agree with him then you're attacking. Keep up the good work! I hope you're kids are proud of you. They should be.
yoiks! one would most likely agree that Moore is diminuitive in this area…
yeah, he and Algore can hang in the 'past irrelevancy' corner along with Billy C…
Michael Moore is trying to compensate for something he does not possess. Be it a well informed mind, or a very small___. Probably the same reason Keith Olbermann is so pissed off much of his waking hours. You make the distinction.
Mike, you probably don't want it or need it, but don't be surprised if someday at some local restaurant, your server comes back to you and says a graying forty-something gentleman picked up your check. You've done good work. Be well.
"Infrastructure might make sense but I’m a nut and think roads and bridges should be private."
I couldn't agree more on all your points. I am curious about your thoughts on the above issue though. I'm a civil engineer by trade, thus my work falls into this area, and I would love to hear any details you have on this subject (or read what you may already have written about it)
America… F Yeah! Keep up the fight, Michael.
speak for me. Your movie must have shook up the blowhard, Mr. Wilson! Good for you!
I have your documentary, and I'm surprised to learn that you're not doing well financially. I'm right there with you. I have a business that is unprofitable due to the credit freeze, and bills are stacking high, but I know everything will be fine because the free market doesn't stay down. People in this country are ambitious, hard working, and have a high pain threshold, so it takes a lot more than de-valued houses and failing banks to keep Americans from succeeding in the long term.
Even if the current congress and administration tries their hardest to cap and interfere with the momentum of commerce and wealth generation, there is only so much that people will tolerate before there's another purge. Look at what conservative constituents did to Republicans. You think those same voters will let these drunken Democrats continue joyriding dad's hotrod into the ditch? No way.
Don't know what happened. That should have read "Michael Moore does not speak for me".
the answer is simple- even Obamites know this guy is radioactive…
Michael– what a well written and articulated response to Moore's sanctimony. You are a true American. Moore is something else altogether….
The taxes on the wealthy is the real sticking point for me in all of this. I know too many small business owners who are having to lay off workers right now and it's only going to get worse. How does that help anyone?
Michael Moore gives fat guys like me a negative image…I should sue for emotional injury…
"Americans don’t ask for handouts"
Really? News to me…
Michael, thank god there is another sane person living here in MN…there are very few of us.
the radicals are having their day – they had better enjoy it, cuz it wont last and with the way they are ruining the future for Americans, the fall for the liberals will come soon and be a big hit – probably worse than being jimmy carter2
unfortunately, America is going to get hurt by this little ride with the radicals.
great name, TF
Bravo. Well put!
Michael my friend, (I don't use that word to just anybody, believe me).
"You can crash at my place any time", no really, I'm retired and have the room. Please be my guest, it would be fun to sit around together and "talk the talk" AND "walk the walk". (That is, if you can put up with my 8 and 11 year old boys).
Come on over and "take a load off" for awhile. No sh!t. I'm easy to find. Just ask my ex-wife.
Not Over.
"I had him."

What they don't realize is that when you try to eliminate free markets, the byproduct will be emerging black markets.
Oh BTW, my offer is an honest one and should by no means be taken by you to be so kind of "bail out".
Consider it a "working holiday" for all of us.
Not Over.
Great response, that guy is despicable. The government is going crazy sowing fear and instability in order to reap more political and economic power and that important documentary maker, Moore, carries their water. Keep on drinking the Kool Aid and attacking those who are actually awake and thinking, Moore. Thanks, M Willson for the work you do on behalf of a country whose politics and economics has meant more prosperity to more people than all countries throughout history. Yeah, but for some reason progressives want to discontinue this and drag everyone down.
It's funny how the lib MSM and talk show hosts keep bashing Rush about his weight but if a conservative said that about this big fat turd it would be some sort of racist remark. My eyes have been opened wide over the past year as to what hypocrites liberals and most democrats are. At least rush doesn't have five turkey necks flopping around under his face. Do ya think Moore gets any women other then $20 skank hookers? I don't.
This is an excellent post, thank you.
Or worse, politically malleable industry (Fannie/Freddie). There's also what Milton Friedman referred to as the crowding out effect, where private industry suffers from publicly funded works.
I went to the Huffington Post article linked above and tried to answer the "poll" roughly asking do you think most Americans agree with Michale Moore with "no". Strangely enough, the web site refused to accept this answer.
The question asked on HuffyPuffy is: Do most Americans disagree with Rush Limbaugh or agree with him?
45% Disagree
51% Agree
4% Not sure
I am from Canada so I cheated and said I was from California – so Anon, try California if it wouldn't accept your state for the answer.
I just read Moore's Huffingtonpost commentary – He actually believes that Obama won because of HIM. He fails to understand the American public's fascination with freaks for which he has become the emperor!
Anon – did you have in mind the "Rush Limbaugh" poll? Not only was I able to enter a vote, I was shocked that on the Huffing A Ton Post so far *most* voters think most Americans agree with Rush. (If I understand where you are coming from, a huge number of people agree with you.)
You choose to argue with what Moore says most Americans believe — but you skip over the fact that in this case, as poll after poll proves, Moore is right. The vast majority of Americans do believe these propositions. I understand that you and most of your commenters don't, but as you say, that's what elections are for.
Amen Michael – can't wait to see your next film.
Science and technology should be private, unless it’s for a military function.
Big disagreement there. Most basic scientific research has to receive public funding, because there's no financial incentive for private funding on research that doesn't have immediate practical value. I'd much rather have the government fund science, leading to new jobs and industries in the long run, than it intervening directly in the economy, or spending taxpayer's money on worthless "bridges to nowhere". Having said that, Michael Moore doesn't really care or know anything about science. He just another mob-follower who has hitched upon the "Republican=Anti-Science" meme and let himself be carried away with it. It's pretty sad that there are many on the right all-too willing to let this meme thrive.
I'm going to weigh in as supporting the Separation of Science and the State. Wonder why we have Bad Science like AGW, Evo, and DDT scares? The government cheese corrupts science.
I call him a BIG pr*ck myself. But that's just my opinion.
Americans don't. Parasites do. A lot of parasites live here…
re Dawneyr's Comment:
Michael W!? Are you burning your movie to DVDs and selling them on Ebay? I can't afford a movie theater ticket, but I'd pop for a copy on Ebay just to make sure you get a few bucks.
great comments so far.
Guess I was wrong…
All I can think to say is that Michael Moore is an asswipe. Surely (don't call me…) I can offer something of intellectual or humorous value instead. ~thinking~ Nope. I'm going with my first instinct.
We need to convince him that chili cheeseburgers and pizza are poisonous and that drinking beer makes you turn Republican. He'd starve to death.
Nice call!
*ahem* Evolution is REAL science and the basis of all biology and AGW IS occurring, it's the socialist economic prescriptions which are bad science. Thank you for proving my point about some Republicans tarring the entire party with an anti-science reputation.
So the whackjob left believes that 51% of Americans agree with Rush? That's interesting. We keep hearing from the RINOs that only 20% of Americans agree with Rush. Very interest.
Nice find… for a Californadian!
Michael Moore Trashed my Movie…Now I can ride his coat tails once again. Really well reasoned rebuttal Wilson. That movie of yours must be a real gem. Universal Healthcare is like robbing people at gun point! Raising taxes on the rich is robbing people at gun point (it made so much sense the 1st time)! Investing in Education, Science, and Infrastructure sucks! Next time you want to refute statistics and electoral results…. aw never mind you would rather argue against strawmen.
Michael, I'm frankly suspicious of your article. You start out by saying that Moore "wrote" a piece about your movie. BUT we all know Moore can't write!! Ah ha!!
(Best wishes, by the way, may your income catch up to your spirit!)
Michael, this is a great piece.
I hope we run in to each other some day so I can give you a big bro hug and a thanks.
Moore is the biggest idiot the left wing attack machine has ever produced.

I will buy one too! Great article Michael.
Well, I didn't see "Michael Moore Hates America" because the very notion is preposterous. Michael Moore IS America. The guy is an outspoken patriot who is sounding the clarion call about how dicked up our invasion of Iraq was and how we are paying twice the cost for half the health care the rest of the industrialized world gets. Now, had Wilson named his movie, "Michael Moore Disagrees With Me so he's a Traitor!", well, that would have been far more accurate a moniker, not to mention quite a bit funnier. I do not know why Libertarians (the most juvenile and unnuanced thinkers on the planet) insist upon the transference of their peculiar politics onto the of philosophy onto the founders of the republic, but I can assure Mr. Wilson that the real case is far different.
They're gloating while they can. Heck, it hasn't even been fifty days, let alone a hundred. Wait until they spend us into oblivion and the economy doesn't suddenly bounce back. Wait until China or North Korea try something serious, or things flare up in the Middle East for real. In short, wait until people really do get scared. Republicans were predicting the demise of the Democrats not too many years ago, for the same reasons. People who seriously believe the Republicans are marginalized or through have obviously never taken a history or politics course, nor have they paid attention to the last several administrations. Post WWII, there was far more Republican leadership than Democratic; Ike had two terms, Nixon/Ford two, Reagan/Bush 41 had three, and W had two. That's nine terms of Republican presidents to just six terms total for the Dems.
I had to log back in, just so I could *click* on the "thumbs down" button for your post.
I wish I could do more…like smack you up side your pointy little head, you sick, sorry piece of troll meat.
There…I feel much better now.
Not Over.
you should see if the Dailty Beast will post your column. They let Lunchbox's upload for all to see and chuck their lunches.
You do understand that a negative review from Michael Moore is a high compliment, don't you?
BOOHYAH, MICHAEL!! Couldn't agree more. This is an exceptional article, your passion is seething behind every word, and you got several fist pumps in the air from me. We, not the government, are the solutions to our problems. I speak some French, and I do love Paris, but this is AMERICA, damnit and every time I hear anything from Michael Moore I just want to drop-kick his butt out of the country. "You have overstayed your welcome, sir — BOOHYAH, you're gone!"
"Infrastructure might make sense but I’m a nut and think roads and bridges should be private." yep…you're not the only nut, I'm one too. Common Sense can once again reign in America…keep fighting, my man!
And i want to buy your movie — but I don't want a dime to go to your ex or her lawyers — let me know how I can put the money in YOUR hands. (you know, the one who actually did all the work?)
Actually it is the "Theory of Evolution". Scientists have not been able to prove it all. Also, which science, there are about 12 or more explanations for evolution.
That is one of the saddest statements I've ever read.
You might try mentioning the name of your movie. Self promotion is hard for the humble, I know.
"even Air Wing types" does that mean Marine pilots? Because a niece of mine is a Marine helicopter pilot–those enormous CH-53 Sea Stallions–so Hey! Just watch it buddy!
You're welcome.
I've been overseas a lot — my mother's family is German. And I'll tell you, Americans are loud (no doubt about that) but I've found Americans (and Canadians) to be some of the nicest people on the planet. The kind of nice you just don't find in Europe. That makes me kind of happy.
Well done Michael, that’s the spirit that makes the USA the greatest country the world has ever known. When the backlash comes, and I feel coming. “Grotesque Slobbering Mikey Moore,” should be one of the first ungrateful leftist, tarred-and-feathered, and sent out of this great country on a rail.
I have a part time job working in a retail Post Office (non-union) and have a great time when dealing with the Americans that come to mail letters/parcels, etc. Usually it is surprise for the cost to mail a letter. Local (within Canada) $0.54 plus tax and $0.98 plus tax to the US.
I see no problem with believing both in evolution (despite the holes/problems) and in a higher power. What troubles me about evolution is not the theory itself, but the people who treat anyone who questions the theory or any of its parts as a heretic. Science should be about facts, not doctrine.
I too love Paris (though not its denizens), but the picture Moore painted of their Utopian health care system in "Sicko" was every bit as skewed and warped as its maker. He (purposefully) neglected to mention the all-important fact that the French health care system is financed by outrageously high (by American standards) taxes on everything and everyone! Same goes for Holland (where I resided for 31 years). My wife and I only paid about $2000 for comprehensive coverage as opposed to the $13,900 we now must fork over for a miserable Horizon Blue Cross HMO in New Jersey- BUT we paid upwards of $7 a gallon for gas in Holland, paid a 19% value added tax on EVERYTHING we bought, and (worst of all), paid a staggering 100% "luxury" tax on almost all imports! Add to that a top 65% income tax rate instead of America's $35%, and it quickly becomes apparent where the money comes for their "affordable" universal health care!
As for France- Moore also neglected to point out that the vast majority of Parisians live in tiny apartments that most Americans would scoff at, and drive mostly tiny pathetically underpowered cars which in Europe (after "luxury" tax) cost a good deal more than far superior American machines.
Don't get me wrong, our American health care system is a national disgrace, and needs to be fixed Big Time- but don't let that smarmy S.O.B. try to convince you that socialized medicine is the answer!
My problem is that people teach Evolution as a fact – until science can prove it all it must stay in the "Theory" category. Sorry my old school training is getting the better of me
!
That depends on what you said. The filter picks up a lot of strange things. If you hit one of those trigger words that isn't verboten, then it will appear once the moderator looks at it and approves it — could be minutes, could be hours.
If you said something truly, devastatingly evil. . . the kind of thing that stains the soul for all time, then it just won't show up. I think most of us have run into that at least once… maybe twice… or more.
Thank you. Obama Troll HQ pays a bonus for your "thumbs down" of outrage. Lighten up Francis.
Nope. They're still tweaking the site, and it's happened to all of us from time to time. Please keep posting (unless you disagree with me, of course). Just kidding.
Seems like every time Wilson posts, the comments turn into an evolution/creation debate. Since Mr Wilson is an athiest and the article isn't about evolutionism I will abstain from the debate this time.
However, in your free time, check out http://www.scienceagainstevolution.org/.
Yeah, Gary. I'm with you. I'm in sympathy with any divorced man who has gotten his best screwing when he was served with the papers. I'm still ticked off, and it's been twenty years. I hope Michael makes a bunch of money from his film, and gets to keep most of it.
Well said Michael I'm glad to see there are still some Americans left that believe in them selves. Moore's entitled to his opinions I just believe his are wrong. It wouldn't concern me so much except all of his notions are taught through out the school system.
Government getting involved in the economy has lead to many of the problems that we face today. I'm tired of hearing people talk about being strict constitutionalists and then in the same breath talking about intent. The constitution is easy to read and easy to understand it's when the almighty higher thinkers (college professors) get involved they some how change specific meanings as they see fit.
Our business is hurting as well thanks to the housing market and yet we keep struggling on. We know we can succeed and if that means we have to work with out pay for a little while then so be it.
I live in the ultimate nanny state California where the number of people with their hands out have out numbered the people trying to earn a living. The liberal states that are trying to redistribute the wealth are faltering miserably.
Ha ha ha… Michael Moore is an idiot… I was reading some of his rant (I can only take a few pieces of his dung at a time) and I can't beleive that he has the audacity to think that most of America agrees with him… At best 51% of country agrees with him… And honestly, if he want's to live with Europe's Government so badly why doesn't he just move there…. We are the United States… We have a unique government and a unique cultural make up and what works in Europe or Cuba or Canada is not necessarily going to work in a country with over 300 million people and hundreds if not thousands of cultural differences… :/
God bless you, Michael.
Nulli illegitimi carborundum. (Or in this case, nullus illigitimus corpus magnus carborundum–I think. My 40-year-old Latin is rusty). For said Fat Bastard's information, if someone's "fundamental right" has to be financed with money from my wallet, it IS a commodity, not a right.
I too hope that Michael makes the most from his movie and everyone who can afford it, buy from Michael!
Hey LawhawkSF, not all ex-wives are bad. I am divorced and never wanted to be know as the ex-wife the b**ch and I never took my ex to the cleaners. I could have for what was done but not my style.
Drop kicking him….Hmm… That is a fightening visual, which has made me feel a bit nauseated. Michael Moore reminds me of a story called "The Beastly Baby" by Edward Gorey.
You are absolutely correct, and I purposely went out of my way not to indict all ex-wives. In fact, some of my best friends (no, really) are ex-wives who played fair even though they could have nailed their ex-husbands. And there's no shortage of rat ex-husbands out there either. Just for some of us guys, when it was bad, it was really bad.
So what is the answer?
Here's my documentary script.
Evil rich man hires mercenary to kidnap Michael Moore. They stuff the fat SOB in a cell, feeding him a 1200 calorie diet until he loses enough weight to qualify as "skinny". They then shave off his beard and dress him up in some smuggled Cuban duds. Once he's clothed and good to go, they fly him to Cuba where they land a seaplane offshore and rubber raft the bastard to shore. There they leave him in his island paradise. He'll run to the cops, of course, claiming he's Michael Moore and has been kidnapped, but his ID will say he's Roberto Sanchez, resident of Havana, a very clever linguist who has perfected his American accent. Undercover American agents put out the word that Roberto Sanchez is too chicken to try to make it to Key West in a dinghy, ergo is trying to convince the Cuban government that he's Fidel's and Raol's old buddy so they'll send him to America. PS he's also been diagnosed as mental (CIA has faked hospital records which show he was in the loony bin for six months last year). Film ends with sun setting over the rich fat cat's yacht and him smiling as he stares at Michael's new paradise/prison.
I have another script in the works. This one has a similar kidnapping plot and is about Pop-Eye (Susan Sarandan), a blue burqa, the wilds of Pakistan and women's rights.
Here'ssomething most people don't know about Moore–the guy recently spent big bucks at a very expensive Miami-based health spa trying (unsuccessfully) to take off the one hundred plus pounds he needs to get off–Hey Moore, is that a "right" we should all pay for?
Or that overconsumption, owning a private jet, and living in a gated community empowers capitalism and undermines socialism– oh wait, he already knows that. I guess there must be different rules for the alpha class.
I agree completely. Science is about discovering the truth. Until something is absolutely proven, it is just a theory — and even then is subject to being disproven. Otherwise all we do is retard our ability to understand the world.
Take, for example, the theory of the Big Bang — something we now believe to be true. This theory was dismissed, not because it didn't made sense, but because it was developed by a Roman Catholic priest. It was therefore seen as an attempt to inject God into the equation and was derisively dismissed. Think of all the research into physics that was wasted during the period that theory was unfairly rejected. Or think about the resources we are going to waste chasing phantom "Global Warming."
There are a number of libertarian atheist conservatives around; maybe you're one, Mr. Con. They're always heavily insistent on their correctness, often aren't correct. Look up Bjorn Lomborg at copenhagenconsensus.com and get some REAL education, OK? Smart Republicans don't worship at the altar of science-which-is-often-wrong. And think of a better nym there, Algore.
Universal healthcare? Taxing the rich? At any point, do you guys actually consider the practicality of the programs you support? Do you realize that not examining your good intentions for realistic functionality often results in destructive waste and infringement on personal rights? At that point, it's no longer a good intention, it's simply a self-serving, feel good, default position to give you a perceived moral high ground, which then justifies the description of "selfish". Other apt terms are "elitist", "self-righteous", "irresponsible".
If I run my business into the ground because of good intentions, my investors, employees, and clients aren't going to call me a really great guy. That only happens in politics, and it's liberals who facilitate that.
Although she never missed an opportunity to kick me when I was down, she was a great mother. She never used the kids as a tool, and particularly when it came to my son, she always said "ask your dad what he thinks." And she never reversed a decision I made, even though she had physical custody of all three. So I returned the favor by never explaining to the kids why they were living so well and I, well, wasn't.
Thanks Alex… I'm still working on the atheism article. I have no idea how it happened this time!
wr1: I don't pretend to know the answer to our health care mess, but perhaps a good start would be cracking down on rampant CORRUPTION (disgraceful price-fixing by Big Pharma; widespread "disability"/"injury" fraud, and banning those God-damned non-stop drug commercials on television (which are almost as bad as those non-stop lawyer commercials for all those phony "slip and fall" suits that end up ultimately costing taxpayers a fortune.
It wouldn't surprise me in the least if various forms of corruption are adding tens of BILLIONS to our health care costs!
Ah yes, Michael Moore, the dark side of diversity.
Moore states that he is no Rush. He is correct on that point, at least Rush has some class.
Moore complains that the book "100 People Who Are Screwing Up America" had nothing to say. It only listed Moore as #1 with a picture. Well Mr. Moore, a picture, even an ugly one is worth a thousand words.
Moore's comment "Obama and the Democrats going after Rush is a good thing " makes me question the sanity of Mr. Moore. With all of the "rights" that he claimed, it seams that he has forgotten one of the basic rights, Freedom of Speech. At least he forgot, as has much of Hollywood, that those people with a different opinion have the same right as he/they have.
Mr. Wilson, I appreciate your post, as it was well written. I thank you for your service as a Marine. Although I was only a lowly Zoomie during the VNW.
As I have not seen your movie, I looked it up on Google. An article dated 2004 gave you and the movie a great review. "Viewers looking for nasty jokes, blind rage, and cheap shots (such as, ahem, showing people unguardedly preparing for a TV appearance, for no other reason than to get some easy laughs at their expense) are going to be disappointed. This isn't that kind of film. In other words, it isn't a Michael Moore movie."

DAMN STRAIGHT.
You know I just cut and pasted a quote on another post here and who woulda thunk it? It's still on my clipboard! So ironic how it fits this greasy slime bag so well:
"Propaganda, is a truly terrible weapon in the hands of an expert."
Adolf Hitler 1924
I like the concept of Moore as 'the perfect reverse barometer'. Here's how I use it:
If Moore is unhappy and railing against something, then that something must be good.
It also works with hippies. The angrier they are, the better the world must be.
Michael Moore, like most classic leftist subversives, is, what Richard Mulligan's Custer in 'Little Big Man' would call 'the perfect reverse barometer'. Meaning, of course, that whatever he asserts the exact obvious is both true, and correct. This is a good and sound artculation of ideals by Mr Wilson. Most of the folk visiting this site will have not only no problem with his elucidations, but will pretty much make them mantra… and, by the by, all Marines are 'good'
Marines, even Air Wing types… just kidding…
Thank you. This is great.
