The Post-American President
by Mark TapsonAs President Obama takes his victory lap abroad, the cheerleading media line up to shake their pompoms. The Huffington Post says “this is what real diplomacy looks like.” Slate calls it “the return of statecraft.” Here’s another way to describe it: dhimmitude, the demeaned and subordinate status of non-Muslims under Muslim rule.
Did you miss our President’s servile bow before the Saudi King in London? If you blinked you did, because the mainstream media have virtually ignored this significant gesture. The left, of course, on the rare occasion that they even acknowledge the incident, dismiss the bow as a stumble, a search for a dropped contact lens, a sudden bout of abdominal pain, anything but what it unmistakably was … a full-on deferential dip to the ruler of another country. And not just any country, but the home of the most active disseminators of the fundamentalist ideology that seeks our destruction. The left always got a big, derisive (as Obama might say) laugh out of George W. Bush’s hand-holding with the Saudi sheikhs, but while that may have been a distasteful gesture, at least it was not a subservient one.
Imagine how this symbolic obeisance will play out in the Arab media, which already feed distortions and ludicrous anti-American and anti-Jewish conspiracy theories to the Muslim world day and night (remember, it was media giant al-Jazeera, an organ of anti-Western disinformation that serves essentially the same function as the New York Times here, that promoted the insane but persistent rumor that all the Jews at the World Trade Center were secretly warned to stay home on the morning of 9/11). The American president bowed to a Muslim – this will confirm for Islamists everywhere that Islam is superior to the West, that America does not have the pride or resolve to oppose the Islamist tide, and that the Great Satan’s days are numbered.
The bow could not have been accidental. It is surely part of Obama’s determination to show the Muslim world R-E-S-P-E-C-T, and to compel our enemies to “like us” (I’ve written about this before on Big Hollywood). He believes that if we respectfully explain to the enemy that we’re not the enemy, then our enemy will stop trying to kill us. I’m no Victor Davis Hanson, but I’m pretty sure that that wartime strategy has never worked in the history of mankind.
“We will convey,” said Obama to the Turkish Parliament, “our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith, which has done so much over the centuries to shape the world – including in my own country.” Oh, it’s definitely done much to shape the world, and it certainly reshaped the New York City skyline, but somehow I doubt that Obama meant this as ironically as I do. (Scholar Robert Spencer demolishes the President’s strange claim here.)
Mark my words, it won’t be long before Obama refers to our “Judeo-Christian-Muslim heritage.” In his first interview as President, on the al-Arabiya network, Obama described America as “a country of Muslims, Jews, Christians, non-believers. . .” Of course, he was addressing an Arab/Muslim audience at the time, but this was nevertheless a curious and revealing ordering of this list. It leads off with Muslims, who constitute barely over half of one percentage point of the U.S. population; then Jews, who are nearly three times more populous here than Muslims; then Christians, who in the broadest definition constitute over 75% of Americans; and finally non-believers. By listing Muslims first, the President endowed them with a demographic significance vastly out of proportion with reality (at least in the U.S.; Europe is another story) – which is exactly the kind of high profile the Islamists want for Islam in America.
But back to Turkey. Obama stressed that we are not at war with Islam (suggesting that this is somehow a different attitude from his predecessor; but Bush never wasted an opportunity to remind the world that Islam is “a religion of peace”). Why is it incumbent only on America and our allies to ease Muslim concerns? The issue is not that we are at war with Islam, but that radical Islam is at war with us – so why are there no Muslim world leaders publicly reassuring us that Islam is not at war with the West? Instead, in return what we get is Prime Minister Recep Erdogan of the supposedly moderate Turkey, who has said “there is no moderate Islam,” who told Turkish immigrants in Europe that “assimiliation is a crime against humanity,” and who stormed out of the Davos conference recently after lambasting Israel’s president over Gaza, making Erdogan a hero among militant Muslims.
But Obama didn’t go bowing and scraping only to the Muslim world. To Europe he reaffirmed his commitment to emasculate America into a European nation. Apologizing to the French, no less, for our arrogance and our derisiveness (pause for a moment to consider the mind-bending irony of that concept), he said, “In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world.” Wrong, Mr. President, it is you who has a failure to appreciate America’s leading role in the world. It is you who is not projecting American strength and will and power. It is you who are conveying to the world that we are now ready to abandon American exceptionalism and embrace a new “global regime” in a post-American world.
“America is a critical actor and leader on the world stage, and we shouldn’t be embarrassed about that,” he said in London. Excuse me, but the only ones “embarrassed” about American power, American sovereignty, American success, and American leadership are socialist trans-nationalists like Obama. No wonder he is the president of Michael Moore’s wet dreams (sorry for that image).
Wait, there’s more: “We exercise our leadership best when we are listening, when we recognize the world is a complicated place and that we are going to have to act in partnership with other countries, when we lead by example, when we show some element of humility and recognize we may not always have the best answer.”
Pardon me while I vomit. We exercise our leadership best when we are listening? Obama has now gone from believing that talk will solve everything, to believing that listening will solve everything. The only more passive step remaining is for America to stretch out like a doormat and let the rest of the world goosestep over us as they march toward the rosy post-American dawn.
When have we not recognized that the world is complicated? When have we not acted in partnership with other countries? Even in Afghanistan and Iraq, often considered the height of our so-called “arrogance,” we never acted alone. But working with partners does not mean that our partners get equal say. Why should American decisions and actions be dependent on the approval of Spain, for example, a country that caved in to terrorism at light speed after the ghastly Madrid train bombing in 2003, and which is now seeking to prosecute American leaders for war crimes?
In the picture above, our president is clutching – also not accidentally – Fareed Zakaria’s book The Post-American World, which posits that American preeminence is giving way to a gaggle of competing new superpowers. Zakaria himself said of Obama’s overseas tour: “For America to continue to lead the world, we will have to first join it” – a clever, cutesy soundbite that is as logical as a Zen koan. What he’s getting at, and what Obama seems to be actively pursuing, is that America must cease being America and become just another actor in an ensemble cast. This is a prescription for national suicide and international disaster, not global utopia. Maybe instead, as Mark Steyn said in America Alone, the rest of the world should join America.

For the love of all that is good, never, NEVER use the phrase "Michael Moore's wet dream" again.
It seems to me that he is only concerned with his own popularity and not at all with America's reputation. It's like he's running for president of the world now.
Mr. Obama is mistaken if he thinks nations act out of anything less than national self-interest. He apparently believes his own hype and the power of his personal magnetism. The bill for his hubris will be expensive.
Isn't the Saudi King reviled by the islamonazi sect?
By that logic, would not ass-kissing Barry's servile act of dubious contrition inflame the same rabid towel-heads that curse the Saudi royals?
Am I missing something here?
In the first six months, Obama has given the GOP more ammo to run on an anti-tax, anti-government, and anti-internationalization ticket than they'll ever need. Hopefully, the moderates who bought into "hope and change" will see it for what it is in 2012.
Would anyone here vote to seceed for the union if things went to far? – I would. The irony would be incredible. Obama's hero, Abraham Lincoln fought to keep our Union together. Obama's new socialism tore it apart. I guess he should have used some other presidents Bible to be sworn in on.
1. Know why Obama hasn't joined a church in D.C.? Cause he really is a Muslim.
2. Know what soft-diplomacy is? Bribery
3. It's not about transparency and post-partisanship. It's all about patronage and payback.
4. Can't they (the administration) get a hold of a Protocol Droid?
I think if President Obama could have crawled onto the Saudi King's lap, he would have done that too. Why not? He's already there–literally and figuratively.

Obama has succeeded based on his ability to dupe Daily Show viewers and other simple-minded people into buying into his hype. He is now trying the same tactic with world leaders. Unfortunately, his charm is not going to be able to win the hearts and minds of the French, let alone the Muslim world. They like him only so long as he roles over and plays dead for them. They view him as a pushover and that is exactly how he is acting.
A sitting American president actively trying to diminish America's status around the world is truly a disturbing prospect. It's bad when Jimmy Carter does it, but it's much worse to see Obama enthusiastically pursuing the same strategy.
I don't think Obama is really a muslim. If he is then he's a really bad one. No reports of him putting his arse in the air 5 times a day to pray or footbaths being installed on Air Force One. The birth certificate issue is the one that bothers me.
Soft diplomacy is what Chamberlain did with Hitler, and look how THAT turned out….
Oh he's transparent alright, it's painfully obvious that he's in WAY over his head.
And they do have a protocol droid, unfortunately it produced too large a carbon footprint and Darth Gore sold it to the Jawas…..
I sincerely hope that we don't have to wait until 2012 to shut this fool down, or at least severely curtail his idiocy. if midterm elections in 2010 go against him he'll have a much harder time tarnishing traditional American ideals.
It's the second term of the Carter Administration. Suck-up to our enemies and insult our allies (Brits).
I'm still shocked that he bowed to the Saudi King — my only hope is that, and I kid you not, Mormons everywhere (I am not one) are mad as hell and going to do something about this. Let's put Mitt Romney in the White House next and end this kind of bullshit that Obama is doing. I'll like nothing more than to see Obama and his small family being waved goodbye to by about 100 Romney's as they restore America for real. The book Obama ought to be reading is a history book because he's going to be in it very soon.
As long as the mainstream media continues to ignore Obama's bow to the Saudi King, it never happened. Just like everything else they ignored and will ignore about this terrible man.
My eyes were opened when the media turned on Hillary in the campaign, and suddenly everything scandalous that she'd done was in front of the American people 24-7. I had friends who adored Hillary that suddenly started talking about how she should just shut up and drop out of the race. Up to that point, they'd never seen anything bad about Hillary because it was never fed to them in the mainstream media that they watch.
The Democrats don't run the media — the media runs the Democrat party. The only way to reveal Obama as a radical incompetent is to get the media to turn on him. I don't know how that would ever happen, but I think that's our only hope.
Obama to Islam: "I will submit."
Looks like the 0 not only bowed but kissed the 'king's' hand. Some blogs are claiming Bush 'bowed' when receiving a medal from same 'king'. Did he?
I think you are ascribing way too much intelligence to Obama. He's neither smart nor well-read, and it seems the staff who are supposed to prepare him for "statecraft" aren't either, but he does have the well-oiled machine of his campaign, the MSM, and conventional liberal and international opinion on his side. He is neither Christian nor Muslim, just an unusually adept opportunist who played millions of Americans with white guilt to get elected. I am not optimistic very many moderates will see through him either. I feel it is incumbent on those of us who expected his pathetic behavior, based on his voting record and what we could find of his past actions, to educate and arm ourselves with information and arguments needed to educate our fellow-Americans.
Funny thing is that the White House released yesterday that he did NOT box. ‘It wasn’ta bow … he’s taller than King Abdullah’ Amazing!!! Smoke and Mirrors folks.
That's a good plan, except for one problem. Obama supporters are fanatical. The man can do no wrong.
When you start to chip away at a fanatic's belief system with reason and facts, instead of seeing the truth, the fanatic will defend his position even more ferociously. This usually degenerates into a screaming match and accusations of racism and blah, blah, blah….
It will take a major catastrophe to wake people up from this hypnotic trance he has them in. Unfortunately I think because of his gross inexperience and arrogance, it just may happen.
This infuriated me – but then – most everything Obama does infuriates me. A person literally has to keep the TV remote in hand and just turn him OFF rather than be continually nauseated and embarrassed by this sad sack of poo. The White House says he didn't bow – bull! What was he doing – tying the man's shoes?
Ironically, Obama would make a great poster child for planned parenthood. There isn't even a shadow of a soul between Hussein and his bride.
This is the continuation of lovely morale equivalence arguments, barf. You know, there is no difference between the USA and say Rwanda. Horse squeeze, we are morally, functionally, and in every other way superior to any country in the world. American exceptionalism, we have it right they have it wrong, now shut the f#%k up and we’ll show you how to live. If not and you choose to live in squalled filth have at it, as for me I like a flush toilet. Message to world, go screw yourself! (I mean it in a loving way)
What bugs me more is O's arm around everybody. Sickened me to see Springsteen being owned liked that. Not that I've cared for anything Bruce has done in the last 30 years, but still. Would it be okay to say to him sotto voce, of course, "if you don't get your hands off me you're going to need your SS detail"? Or would that be impolite?

Ha!! the replies to the article are the exact reason one side lost and one side won last November. If America continues to only get one sided news from one source I am afraid of what the country will become.
It's too late Mike. America got only one side of everything during the campaign. And look what happened. We have an administration that's getting rid of our debt by…….creating MORE debt……WTF??
We have a president that is not qualified to lead and dangerously inexperienced in practically all facets of being POTUS. Every other person he picks for appointment is a tax cheat. And good luck trying to engage in honest debate regarding this nonsense lest you get labeled racist. It's insanity…..
All because America got only one sided news. One side didn't lose because of the issues or policies. They lost because the "news" outlets savaged Sarah Palin, marginalized John McCain, and touted Obama as the messiah. It's ridiculous to say that you're afraid of what America might become, because we're already there bro.
tahDeetz, that is a very good question. You're right about bin Laden and his ilk having contempt for the Saudi royals, but in the larger scheme of things, even Sunnis and Shiites will unite if necessary against infidels and Jews. It's still a "moral" victory for all of them that the American president bowed to a Muslim – the overall message they'll take away from this is that Islam is superior, and the Americans are weak.
So Hank your saying its the media's fault that McCain/Palin lost?? My point was the paranoia is getting out of hand. Also there have been lots of Presidents who are inexperienced upon getting into office and if you are talking foreign policy we havent had someone who was experienced since the first Bush. You are absolutely correct with the tax cheats that he's tried to hire but the responses to this debate have been cheap shots about nonsense, and I think that clouds the debate more than anything.
[...] Tapson nails it with his on-target, provoking essay The Post-American President. As our sheep-brained media continues to follows itself off the cliff of reason by reporting only [...]
I really can't believe that people are still supporting this guy. When I tune in to the "MSM" and people I know they still believe he is doing a great job. I just want to know if they are on a different planet then I am or just turning a blind eye to what he is doing. Either way it is scary that nothing he is doing is affecting people. I mean it is so blatant, in your face I hate America stuff that he is doing…Apologizing, bowing, making us part of the "Global Economic Communtiy", taking over companies, putting us in debt 3x over, and the list goes on. He supporters actually thinks this is ok.
Are you saying the media had nothing to do with Palin\McCain losing??
Obama was given every accolade and praise from the media while all their venom was focussed on Palin. It was disgusting to watch, partly because that's ALL there was to watch. It was exactly what you said you were afraid of, can't you see that??
And regarding inexperience, Obama was a junior senator with around 150 days on the job. Sorry, but "community organizer" ain't cutting it. he is just not qualified on any level. He has never led anything in his life, but we were told that he's the "uniter", the "bringer of hope and change". It was all pure fluff and the majority of Americans fell for it. You tell me how that happens…..
Now about some of the cheap shots. I try not to do it, I try to stick with what I know is wrong with this administration. But every single freakin time I try to engage someone on these topics it turns into a screaming match and I get called a racist.
maybe if SNL took some shots at this president like they did to all the others since it's existence, but that doesn't happen either (and trust me, there is PLENTY of material there). This man is given a free pass to be as ignorant on foreign policy, the economy, our constitution, AND march madness brackets as possible. Sorry, but we're already in the situation that has you scared, and the media and hollywood shoulder a lot of the blame.
I know what you mean – I feel the same way. It's all I can do to keep from blogging every single day about how annoyed I am with President Obama, the fawning lapdog media, and the leftists who defend every ridiculous thing he says and does while at the same time attacking and insulting Republicans and conservatives, accusing us of doing what they themselves do. The frustration mounts, but I fear if I blogged about it every time I felt this frustrated, I would alienate all of my friends. Not that they're all liberal, but one can only take so many political rants…
Thank you for this powerful assessment – you really pull it all together from the fog of nonstop chattering heads on what passes for the news nowadays. Maybe next time Prez O will French kiss King A. (Actually, that would be a step up.) Americans are having a hard time differentiating between a rock star on "the world stage" and a president who is supposed to represent them. The President is very academic. And you know what they, "Those who can't do…" Another brilliant piece. Keep em coming.
I think the USA should start an era of isolationism. Withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan and pull troops out of Europe. Take all the money saved and INVEST in the military, bring back the F22 and missle shields etc.
Cut off ALL aid and drop ouf of the UN. Tell the world we have been evil and have to take some time to get out act together. Also tell them that any action against us would be a really bad idea, given that we are so evil.
I wonder how that would work?
You got the "post" right about Obama, as in "dumb as a." Even Democrats are waking up to the fact that the "triumph of the victim" campaign is over, but he doesn't get that yet.
Skip, I wish I'd run the piece by you first – I would have re-titled it "The Dumb-as-a-Post-American President." Perfect.
Well Hank I would like to thank you for having a civil argument with me and I do agree about how quickly these disagreements turn into shouting matches. I think the media only plays a marginal role in politics but thats just me. I personally didnt vote for McCain because he hired Phil Graham as his head economic chief, and because im not a fan of the Reganomics tax plan of tax cuts for the rich. I refuse to believe that people go into the voting booth and think about what O'Reilly/Olbermann has to say about it but I could be wrong. I disagree with your assesment that he's ignorant Constitutionally cause he was a Constitutional teacher at Harvard Law I believe, and I dont think they give those jobs to just anyone.
I hear that. I need to vent so badly that I stay on this computer all the time! Thank God there are sites like these where you can find people who feel the same way you do, because, as you said, if you listen to the media and the liberals and buy into that mess – we're all labeled as ignorant redneck nut-job hillbilly Bible-thumpers with no teeth! Ever go over to HuffPo, just to see what they're saying? It is a mind blower! I actually hate to give them the web hit, but I think I need to know what's out there. It is scary! And they call us nuts! Have a good day, and thanks again for your postings on the religion issue yesterday.
I promise, Rambler. I couldn't sleep last night after I wrote the phrase.
In 1938 the most popular and universally acclaimed darling of the MSM was Neville Chamberlain.
At least Chamberlain had the excuse of not knowing any better; the Great War had devastated Britain and the rest of Europe, and Hitler was an unknown quantity.
The One has no excuses for the servile posture he has projected for the United States.
I pray that he retires from public life in 2012, and spends some quality time with Michelle and the kids. Maybe he can even learn a useful trade…
That book. That stupid, crappy book.
PBHO in Wright's pews for years. (Note: NO REVEREND!)
PBHO's friends: Bill Ayers and his ilk.
PBHO's dress and deportment: Bows to the Saudi's, can't seem to look presidential, mumbles and disseminates, and refuses ties.
PBHO's light reading: The Post-American World
PBHO's crisis management; can't seem to take down a bunch of stumbling Somali's in a lifeboat surrounded by the U.S. Navy.
I was around for Carter. This guy is much, much worse.
No thanks necessary bro, the only way we as a nation can find any common ground is if we put the insults and trash talk aside.
Now, just because you refuse to believe something, doesn't make it so. if you were to ask 10 average Obama voters if they agreed with Obama's anti-abortion views, I'll bet you a beer that 7 of them would say yes. The majority of voters get their information from the media, which was solidly in the tank for Obama.
If he isn't ignorant of the constitution, why on earth would he take over companies and start legislating pay scales?? Why would he let his administration attack the 2nd Amendment? I can't speak intelligently about the circumstances of his getting that job, but I imagine he believes the constitution is a "living, breathing" document. Which is not true on any level. The founding fathers are spinning in their graves right now.
I didn't vote for Obama because I didn't know a thing about him, mainly because he has never done anything. The more I learned about his views, the less I liked about what he would do to the country. And now here we are, staring at triple the national debt. Watching him trapse around the globe bashing our country and bowing to a Saudi.

Oh and if you need any more proof that Hollywood is in the tank for Obama and they are doing all they can to make this guy the messiah, just go to the home page of this site and read the new column on the "documentary" Edward Norton made…..
In the first six months, Obama has given the GOP more ammo to run on
–
First 6 months? Talk about math illiteracy.
He assumed office in the last week of January and it's now early April.
D'oh!
Dhimmitude is the only way to describe this. The Ururper In Chief bowed to this filth — what else could it be?
If Sharia law comes to my door, it can meet my Colt M1911.
I think the reason for the legislating the pay scales is because we own those companies and I think the move to fire the GM head was more a political move because if you are running for President and you cause mass auto firings in Michigan you may not receive another vote there for 20 years no matter if its right or wrong, which is why the senators that were leading the charge were from Alabama and had no presidental aspirations cause that would be career suicide. I dont know of any infringements on the 2nd amendment but I do think our gun laws should be better, while im not naive enough to think all gun violence would stop if we had better laws but there should be no reason that I could go to any inner city U.S.A and buy guns off the street, we absolutely should do something about that.
Mike, I don't think Obama is ignorant of the Constitution, but I think he is applying an interpretation that is both wrong and dangerous. He seems to subscribe to the idea of the Constitution as a "living document", which is a typical liberal Con-law idea. The "living document" people take the position that the Constitution can be re-read to fit whatever is needed at the moment. But that's a horrible idea.
First, if the Constitution can be redefined by the party in power, then the Constitution really has no meaning. Moreover, how can such a Constitution act as a break on government over-reach?
Secondly, the "living document" crowd always ignore the fact that the Constitution already has methods within it to amend the Constitution as needed. What they don't like is that an amendment takes time and it requires the proposed-amenders to obtain popular support. It is a lot easier for them to just redefine the Constitution.

Mike, I agree with you on the issue of people getting their news from one side and that this is horrible for our future. But, to cast blame for a moment, I blame the left — particularly the MSM.
For years, the MSM shaded/spun the truth to support their center-left view of the world. This caused vast numbers of people to lose their faith in what they were being told by the media. As a result, they began searching for alternative news outlets. With the growth of the internet, people have been able to pick and choose their news sources. Thus, people now tend to find the news they agree with. This is made worse by the recent trend of turning everything into a conspiracy theory and the poor state of education, which has poorly equipped people to judge what is a reputable source or not.
The only people who can fix this problem are the MSM. But to do that, they need to drop the agenda and return to being an honest broker of information. I don't see that happening.
Obama is not ignorant of the Constitution; he understands it in FAR different light than you or we.
This is the type of thought that took one clause "providing for the general welfare" and turned it to trillion dollar nightmares that has Madison doing cartwheels in his grave… yes, he believes it to be a 'living document' as well, but it's his originalist take on it, his socialistic interpretation we find so dangerous. Mr Mike has the same soft liberal talking points (he may very well believe all that) but not knowing how dramatic the role of the media is in this cycle and thinking that buying guns back is any solution at all certainly shows a painful naivete'…
HERE HERE!!! Impeach Obama!!! (Hey why not? They said it when Bush was president)
Sharia law.. meet mr happy trigger… mr happy trigger.. meet Sharia law.
Yes but he's been crowded King by the media for oh, let's say about a year and a half now. He had his own pre Presidential seal and was already leading the country since November, which is about six months ago.
Our new leader's performance on tour should have been no surprise. It was just an extension of his never-ending political campaign for an ultra-sophisticated internationalist audience. He made nice with everyone and got zilch in return when it came to practical committments. He did get what he most seems to want – adoration, applause and plenty of photo-ops showing his cool and smiling visage looking forward, looking upward and (unfortunately) looking unbearably smug. He knew what the crowd wanted – Windy platitudes with a strong dash of self-loathing remorse over America's recent past, a past that he had nothing to do with. And he delivered. Make know mistake about it. He believes in all his "Global Community" palaver as long as it can come about through "civilized" cooperation by the "elites." he will sell us all in the name of that goal.
I wonder if this bow will make an appearance in a Michael Moore film. It'll be interesting to see.
I didnt say we should buy guns back dcase in fact I said I was unaware of his 2nd amendment infringements. What talking points am I using? and excuse me for believing that people are smart enough to not believe everything that they see on opinion driven primetime cable news shows.
Great article, thanks Mark. Maybe this is all just a set-up for next season's 24.
In the FBI we didn't believe in fair fights. If we were going to arrest one man, we sent 6 or 8 agents. I hope the President doesn't realize how unfair those arrest situations are and make us show up with just one or two agents. Might may not always make right but it often minimizes a counter attack. He needs to be strong, not subservient.
My feelings exactly. He isn't as smart as he is a shrewd opportunist counting on white guilt to get ahead. He is a polished version of the windshield cleaners who preyed on drivers queued to go through the tunnels in NYC in the early 80s. Someone needs to grab his squeegee from him and drive away.
The President is not a Muslim. He isn't a Christian, Jew, Zoroastrian, Hindu, Buddhist, tree worshiper or follower of Zeus, Odin or the native spirits. He isn't even an atheist. He is a post-religion nihilist. Underneath the well-cut suits, the handsome pecs, the upturned chin, the big brain and the Ivy League degrees there seems to be…..nothing. He felt the call to Rev. Wright's church because he knew, as Machiavelli pointed out, that a leader must "look pious" and that particular church was a source of great local political clout. I don't see him as a man with any sort of inner or spiritual life and, in all fairness, there is no real reason he should have one. He believes in the state and in the power bequeathed by politics. He has proven over the last three months that everything is secondary to social engineering and the exercise of power. It is a cold, hard and ruthless faith and he believes in that toally.
Inferiority without dignity. Great plan.
I am afraid you are correct, sir.
Thanks Bob! Strength, not subservience – that's the right signal to send.
And luck to your FBI guys getting those pirates to give up and pack it in.
Much appreciated, Charles!
So far, his adminstration has been nothing but infuriating, nauseating and depressing. I don't see how I can personally survive four years of this insanity and incompetence. I hope the country can.
Funny, I was thinking that it won't be long before Obama is kneeling at the Saudi King's feet.
I heard bowing to a foreign leader is a sign of submission. Obama sure spends a lot of time trashing America on foreign ground. I think people like him used to be called traitors, but today, they're heros. Obama even has his own hero folder off the whitehouse.gov site. (here's him watching tv http://www.whitehouse.gov/assets/hero/superbowl2…. Assets and here?
Hollywood glorifies him because he's opposite of what they hate. They hate anything that has to do with the Bible…probably because Hollywood is full of filth and the Bible exposes that. Of course they're going to promote a man that eases their guilt and makes filth the norm.
Wait, what? What do Mormons have to do with his bowing to the Saudi King? Shouldn't you be hoping that AMERICANS everywhere are mad as hell and going to do something about it? Why should Mormons be the only ones outraged here? Please explain.
There is strength in submission. But only sometimes. *snicker*
no offense; your points were the ones we see consistently from the more liberal contributors; i.e. lack of awareness of media bias, warm and fuzzy gun control (buybacks are a huge joke) and such- as we said you may very well believe all that- no one should get their facts from op-ed cable shows- read the National Review, The Economist, Foreign Affairs
and study, study study… there are over 20,000 gun laws extant- and the 2nd amendment was designed to protect the 1st- it is not a 'duck hunting' law. You seem sincere, and as we said no offense- this is a debate you entered and all assertions (our included) get challenged. Sometimes quite forcefully…
Yeah, he "bowed" his head down so the shorter Saudi King could put the medal over his head. Not quite the same thing, eh?
dcase, I read the Economist every week and I've got to tell you that they have been heading left for quite some time. Their coverage of the USA is particularly far left, though their international stuff is slightly better.
you are right; unfortunately they caught a case of BDS (particularly Lexington) and will rue the day they embraced Obama- they already kind of are- but for a complete briefing of the world they absolutely cannot be beat. Just remember that UK conservatives are more like US left-of center moderates and it wont hack you off as much- plus they do eventually learn, as they will when they realize just how good Bush was for them…
I already know that Americans everywhere are outraged — I am thinking about who would never in a million years bow to a Saudi royal and that has to me a Mormon because their faith's creed is based on the idea that America is in fact Holy. That's one of the foundations of their religion I think. I also like the large families they generally have in an era of "please have less kids or else you're ruining the world" Basically I see Mitt Romney and his family as good medicine for a nation that has been lied to about everything recently. There's no way a Mormon president would turn on America like Obama is currently doing. That's just my opinion. I hope that clears it up for you.
Thanks for the reply Dcase, I didnt take offense to what you posted was just curious as to what you were referring to. On the Cable news aspect dont more people get their news from conservative sources than liberal when it comes to cable news? Again I didnt suggest buybacks just something cleaner than we currently have on gun laws.
Their latest Obama article was pretty interesting wasn't it? It seemed to me they were saying, "he's a great guy… but man is he getting it wrong." It will be interesting to see if they keep up the criticism — I noticed, by the way, based on the spelling, that the Obama piece was written by their British team, not the Americans.
When it comes to world news, they definitely can't be beat. I haven't found any other magazine that bothers to cover the world in any detail at all. Personally, I like keeping up with everything. I also like the English coverage — their local politics are really pretty interesting.
Ok, I get the whole 'Mitt Romney would never bow because he's Mormon' thing but still not quite sure why it is you say you hope Mormons are going to do something about this. You seem to imply that if every Mormon in the country is outraged, Mitt will be our next president. That argument doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but I'm suffering from lack of sleep today so maybe I'm just not getting your point.
It can't.
You can have inexperience working at Burger King. The citizens of the USofA deserve someone who knows what they are doing. A perfect example is the mess we have on our hands now. Did you ever read Michelle's thesis? If that woman has a high IQ, I must be a rocket scientist and don't even know it. Both of them are frauds. If Oblahblah was so great, would we be in the mess we are in? No. I'm tired of the main stream media passing out the kool aid for these two to the clueless masses. It's pretty evident that the msm would back another Hitler if he hid behind the Democrat moniker rather than have an R after his name.
they will be the first to come home to roost- intellectual honesty does that for you- and they even used the 'I' word- incompetence- and it only took them 90 days; so there is still hope. The UK stuff is interesting because it is so personality based and so petty. When you are in the grips of EU style socialism there isn't that much substance between Labor and the Tories…
Can't just blame the news. I blame members of Congress for remaining silent during the campaign. McCain & Palin could have won the election if they would have brought Obama's eligibility issues up. Bush chooses not to comment on it. No kidding? His family stays in power by keeping their mouths shut about Obama's eligibility.
I blame Congress for not demanding Obama turn over his long form birth certificate and his college records. What's in it for the members to remain silent? They're either Obama's sheep or they're cowards. Either way, they have betrayed us and allowed expensive litigation to continue (Defendourfreedoms.us) rather than demanding Obama ends the debates over his eligibility.
Any person who is in office for "we the people" would want to to stop the rumors of ineligibility by providing the documents being requested. Instead, he hires a law firm, and bows to a foreign king.
He is not the president of the United States of America. We are a nation without a president.
By the way, who is paying for his defense team? Us?
Jackinmaine this mess we are in began more than 79 days ago its going to take years to reverse the effects of the damage. Also to say that the MSM would back Hitler is just silly, to compare anyone to a mass murderer is never acceptable.
Thanks for the protocol droid reference. Gave me something to laugh at while reading this very sad (but true) story.
I doubt a Jewish President would bow to the Saudi King either. Or a Catholic one. Or a Baptist one. Or a President of any number of denominations if you're just basing it on religion and not political leanings. Obama went to a Liberation Theology church though, and those tend to be more about concerned with liberal social engineering than they are about traditional religiosity.
So I see it as not a matter of religion so much as the liberal ideology of "getting along" no matter what the cost, Obama is basically out there doing Rodney King diplomacy, hoping to appease who he sees as The Man of the moment.

Nice shark!
Great, gee thanks for making me even wonder this: So what's Obama's "safe word" for when the Muslims start getting a little too rough? LOL
I shouldn't laugh, but that's very funny.
He'll just show them a copy of his real birth certificate.
This, along with the Congressional delegation that went to Cuba, concern me greatly.
For Mr. Obama to bow to the king of a country, any country is inappropriate. He represents the greatest Democracy on this planet and as president he represents all of us. So the symbolism of this says that we are subjugating to the Saudi Monarchy. Who forgot to tell Mr. Obama about the American Revolution?
I agree with you Andrew, he's definitely in the "living document" camp, as are many Federal judges going back at least to the time of FDR, and from what I've seen the majority of law professors at most colleges and universities. Legislating from the bench was not what the Founders intended, but that's a commonly used tactic by those that want to affect changes (via "living document" ideas) without having to answer to anyone at all.
I'll always maintain that the reason he studied the Constitution so seriously was so he could find ways to manipulate it, not uphold it.

Right…It's amazing to me that people still watch "the news" completely unaware they are being fed the company line — and not just from the DNC, but Daily Kos, the pro-Muslim group CAIR, etc.
And I'm not talking idiots, I mean otherwise completely intelligent people, just parroting talking points right from the TV.
It's no different today than in was in the '60s, except there were no news alternatives to "The most trusted man in America," Walter Kronkite. KGB spymasters came forward after Gorbechev admitting they'd infiltrated the media during Vietnam, providing all-too-eager reporters with freshly-edited, ready-to-air blood and guts footage, as well as supplying propaganda and financial and logistical support to the antiwar movement.
This disservice to history was compounded by Hollywood later, getting its licks in when the antiwar folks grew up and made movie after movie about Vietnam, setting in stone (or is it Stone?) that Vietnam was lost on the battlefield (not in Congress) and that every soldier who fought there was a drugged out Hippie there against his will, and came back raving, drug-addicted lunatics. Neither of which is/was true.
Exactly right. The O-bow-ma campaign is claiming their Beloved Leader is so tall, he needed to stoop at the waist until his neck was parallel with the floor in order to shake the hand of a Muslim king. BTW, O-bow-ma is no taller than GWB, at 6'1". But in the Kool-Aid drinkers' minds, Obama is like Paul Bunyan, as twice as tall as a house, and smarter than Einstein and Stephen Hawking combined.
It immediately reminded me of Kim Jong Il's media, which claims he's 6' tall, and hit a bunch of holes in one the first time he played golf.
Hey, don't blame me, Dr. Strangelove started it! I don't think he has a safe word. Obama strikes me as more of a 24/7 kinda guy.
Agreed. I saw the "I" word. Shocking. You won't see that in the New York Times or on NBC.
By the way, the issue I meant was the March 28 issue.
Yes! That is another bail out!
