‘Law and Order’ Trashes ACORN Videos

Rulle Jr.Dick Wolf has fallen from the heights as a writer on “Hill Street Blues,” a supervising producer of “Miami Vice” and the creator/producer of the once-excellent “Law and Order” trilogy. The flagship of the “Law and Order” series is “Law and Order,” the two other shows being “SVU” (Special Victims Unit) and “CI”(Criminal Intent). Perhaps 20 years is too long for any series, but “Law and Order” has devolved into the cheapest form of left-wing paranoid delusion. It is so obvious, it gives left-wing propaganda a bad name. Maybe Karl Rove planted a mole. I now watch it for its comedic satirical value, as one would watch “Saturday Night Live.”

The last episode was “Fed.” It’s a story about an ACORN-like community organizing group called “Rights Alliance.” The founder of the Rights Alliance has a conservative infiltrator murdered to “cover up a cover-up.” The cover up is an affair the founder was having with one of its members. The “cover up of the cover-up” was the money being paid by the founder to his mistress’s husband to keep the affair quiet. The right-wing infiltrator was murdered because he had been secretly video taping a sting he was arranging unrelated to the affair–clearly meant to be reminiscent of the O’Keefe/Giles real life ACORN investigation. The founder feared this tape would open the organization up to scrutiny, thus exposing his affair and the subsequent monetary extortion to his girlfriend’s husband. We are not supposed to be shedding too many tears for our murder victim, given he was “tricking a few dumb kids in an ambush video.”
The victim was found with the words “Fed” printed on his chest, apparently to throw our eagle-eyed detective team of Bernard and Lupo off the scent. You see, “right wingers” hate government so much we murder government employees all the time. Of course, Rights Alliance is a non-profit group, not a Government agency, but the writers assume dopey murdering “right wingers” might think Rights Alliance are government agents. This makes scrawling the word “Fed” on the victim’s chest a great ruse. Get it?
But the real action is how “conservatives” are portrayed and characterized. As implied above, the show makes more sense as a parody of the left-wing view of the right than it is effective propaganda for the left. This is now its entertainment value. The first suspect for the infiltrator’s murder is a “Patriot Ranger,” a crazed group that is stated to be linked with “last summer’s Tea Party Movement.” The Patriot Rangers look like casting rejects from the movie “Deliverance.” They carry rifles in Manhattan, are unshaven, uncouth, and it looks like you could smell them from 50 feet. The suspect, who is innocent, is still made to appear repulsive. He calls the detectives “Obamabots,” which they reacted to with shock and anger.
Our erstwhile “O’Keefe” style infiltrator is said to be a “militant conservative.” What makes one a militant conservative? Our murder victim is “militant” because in college he ran a student group supporting George W. Bush’s reelection. His roommate from college tells the detective Lupo the O’Keefe character “hated liberals.”
Of course, Jack McCoy has to get in his two cents. He states how he has always been a supporter of Rights Alliance, which “has worked across party lines.” He proceeds to tell his DAs to “go the extra mile” before “blowing up” up the Rights Alliance group because of its historical good works like “predatory lending reform,” “housing reform,” and “minimum wage reform”–the heart of the left’s financial reform agenda. (The first two were instrumental in helping take down our financial system in 2008.)
In a “town hall” meeting held by McCoy for Patriot Rangers (read: Teabaggers) and Rights Alliance, both groups get unruly, but the worst epithets naturally emanate from the Rangers. One exclaims: “Socialist Scum!” McCoy is genuinely pained when the Rights Alliance group does not believe his plea for patience because he supported their work for years. He made no such assertion to the “Deliverance” styled Patriot Ranger/Tea Party crowd.
This episode also comes on the heels of an “SVU” show earlier in the week where some character refers to various Fox opinion show hosts and Rush Limbaugh as “cancers” in society.
There is a “Last Days of Pompeii” feel to Wolf’s “Law and Order” empire. He has become very wealthy delivering prime time crime drama to television, and the truth is his shows have been high quality. But it’s time to hang it up. These shows have become message delivery machines. When drama is subordinated to politics, it’s no longer popular art, but cheap propaganda.
Dick should get out while it’s only a little too late.

Yep television and politics have merged. It's been happening for a long time. Whenever either party wants to push a cause to buy or keep more votes they get it slipped into different shows. It's called subliminal marketing.
I first caught it when they wanted to move hundreds of thousands of Somalians to the US. Not that I am against any ethnic group (with my family make-up that would be dam near impossible). I just hate the fact that our scumbag politicians use their plight to essentially import votes. Simple death in Somalia or live and vote in my district.

I recently snapped this shot when I was waiting in my car at the corner of Motor Ave. and Pico Blvd. and I remember thinking how enraged the studio Lib-Bots must be feeling when they drive off the lot to see this reminder of their culture of corruption.
(Actually, everyone knows real Acorn prostitutes would quickly find themselves with their own assigned parking and office space at all the studio lots around town. )

Hey I came from the Republican party. OK I used to be a robot also. Until I was picked to be a National delegate and was sent a message from the state leadership. Telling me how much to donate, that I would be told when to applaud and that the decision was alrready made so don't expect my vote to mean anything.

I first started to realize the downward spiral of Law & Order when those words preceded an episode. To me, Ripped from the Headlines meant We're too stupid or lazy to write an original and engaging story.
Law and What? I haven't watched them in years. Used to be a good show. I'll stick to SONS OF ANARCHY.
Apparently Law & Order has once again made the mistake of confusing ridicule with refutation. I'd say I expected a higher level of intellect from this show, but then again, I don't.

Yes, yes – oh God! Yes! I think that not too long after GWB was elected for his first term, "The Simpsons" became more and more strident in their promotion of "progressive" politics – against "Global Warming"? – check. For Gay Marriage? – check. Against the war in Iraq and "profiling" of Muslims as potential terrorists? – check and check. In my opinion, Lisa Simpson has got to be one of the most smug, self-righteous, whiny cartoon characters on TV at this time.
All of its left wing drivel is the reason I stopped watching it. It would be interesting to know the reason most actors have left – like Elisabeth Rolm.
So what else is new? When L&O does it's "ripped from the headlines" episode on the Fort Hood murders you can be sure that the "real" shooter will be a right-wing, Christian, homophobic command officer who "sets up" the innocent Major Hasan character in order to stimulate support for the "phony" War on Terror. This will give Messrs. Waterson, Roache etc. the chance to pontificate in court about how "We must always fight for the truth, no matter how unpopular it may be." (Hey – I can write for this show!)
Quick, how many of you know the actual percentage of subprime loans that were given out under CRA? Why, that would actually be 20%. It's fascinating how phony derivatives trading gets absolved of any blame in the financial crisis by this crowd. Easier to blame the poor for all that ails us.
Right. Of course, the fact that the tapes were doctored, with new voices replacing what was actually said, will be ignored around here.

Have you ever seen an episode of Law and Order? They've been doing the "ripped from the headlines" for 20 years now. It's one of the defining features of the show.
It's interesting that you say these things as a reaction to an article that a television show didn't tow the conservative line about ACORN.
Considering how many "I'll never watch ABC because of so and so's politics" posts on this website, it takes a certain amount of gall to criticize the left for not thinking outside of their ideology.
Being a hard core, left wing, modern liberal is like wearing an old sweater. No matter how ratty it gets, its still comfortable.

In my opinion, it's a reflection of the Marxist underpinnings of today's modern liberal movement.

Television shows like this portray the liberals' alternate universe. It's the happy place they go when the real world becomes too much for them.
You honestly get the feeling that the current group of writers and producers are almost getting off sexually at the wildest fantasy they can create trashing conservatives, in the same way Keith Olbermann has to be orgasming at his own fevered liberal fantasies when he writes his Special Comment segments for "Countdown".
The question would be, why were financial institutions trading these derivatives in the first place? After all, any and all business exist to succeed. So why would they lend money to people who obviously couldn't pay it back, which would guarantee them bankruptcy?
Simple, the federal government said do it or else. And as a fail safe, they put We The People's tax money up as security.
On top of that you can thank the federal government for Mark-to-Market accounting which caused the entire house of cards to crumble.
Poor people aren't to blame. And I don't really blame banks all that much either. They were forced into it. The blame belongs squarely on the back of the federal government, who never saw any action by a citizen that shouldn't be regulated and coerced.

I don't if when we elect Democratic Presidents, but shows tend to get very left wing preachy. For example: Back in the Bush I, there was this funny show (called Rock) about an African-American garbage man, his hot wife, his wayward brother and grumpy (old man) father who all lived together. Once Clinton was elected, however, it became a very preachy about how is everything was going to be better for “black folks” now that we had Democrat in the White House. It can be argued the same thing happen to Cosby Show towards the end of its run. As Big Hollywood points out every day: it’s the nature of the (Hollywood) beast. My question is: do these shows “Jump the Shark” before or after they turn left-wing preachy?
This show left my TV back when they ranted against the 2nd amendment. At least the humor of William Shatner's character could offset the fringe loony, leftist rants of Boston Legal. The L&O shows don't have a Denny Crane character, so nothing is missed by finding something else. Then again, it appears the show will live forever on the USA Network.
I hear there's a move afoot to get the ACORN videos a special Oscar for "Creative Sound Editing."

I attempt to engage them in reasonable debate. If they don't respond, I move on. If they respond with crap, I move on. But from time to time, I get a reasonable response. Some people are real, they just might not be as adept at writing as others. Those are the people I'm looking for.

I was once a fan of Law and Order and watched it regularly but when Lenny left the show lost what little appeal it had left. I have vowed along with husband and two grown sons to no longer watch major networks or spend our money on left wing artist. Without middle America's money these artist could not use the money they make off of us going to see their movies or watching their tv programs against us. Stand up America and stop supporting the leftist in Hollywood. They cannot survive without your support. They are all Hypocrits just like the Progessive Democrats in charge in Washington and the are LIARS they cannot tell the truth or accept the truth. America is Great and does not need to be changed to fit their agenda.

"The Simpsons" were fair in their political satire prior to 2000, but since then they've become a shrill "progressive" mouthpiece, a fact I've lamented at length on this site.

I still watch "The Simpsons", partly because the show still has its moments, partly out of habit, but I cannot think of the last time they aimed a joke at the left as they often did in the '90s.

Again, the wide majority of the sub-prime loans that failed were NOT arranged under auspices of the CRA. So if the CRA wasn't part of these loans, just how were the banks "forced" to do anything under the act?
Financial institutions were trading the derivatives so they could claim that they had more growth than they actually did. Perhaps, just perhaps repealing Glass-Stegall in restrospect wasn't such a hot idea.

The banks knew that it was in their best interest to give these loans out or face intensive auditing or not get approval for expansion. It was extortion by the feds. It was too bad that Bill Clinton at the behest of Robert Rubin signed to repeal Glass-Stegall.
CRA was but one method the government used to strong arm the financial industry into making these loans.
Cuomo, in Clinton's HUD leaned on banks to make them, threatening them with withholding government approvals for mergers and acquisitions, essentially preventing them from growing as a business.

Fannie had gone from $1.2 billion in subprime-mortgage and securities purchases in 2000 to $9.2 billion in 2001 and $15 billion in 2002. Freddie's numbers were murkier, but clearly also on the rise. In 2003 alone, the two bought $81 billion in subprime securities—which also count against the goals.
It was a Soprano way the government got these loans put out.

We're all gun toting bible thumping flannel wearing militia members who refer to our apartments as "compounds," we hate gay people, black people. gay black people, and gay black people who perform abortions and believe in climate change. We read Rush Limbaugh transcripts all day while watching FOX News, that is when we're not spying on that Muslim guy down the hall who is without a doubt a terrorist who must be killed before dinner.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go disrupt a town hall meeting and scream "get out of my country" to every deli clerk in my neighborhood.
