Philosophical Divide: Sarah Palin vs. Pop Culture’s Moral Relativists
by Michael S. Rulle Jr.The Main Point
The world view, or philosophical perspective, of Sarah Palin versus say, David Letterman’s or Katie Couric’s, is profound at its core. Not only are the philosophical differences profound, but the political implications of those differences are as equally profound.
Palin is the philosophical descendant of those who created this country’s constitution; Couric and Letterman, on the other hand, like much of the Bi-Coastal Media/Entertainment Left, are more consistent with the self annihilating philosophy of moral relativism. While Palin is intelligent and constant in her views, I make no similar claims specifically about Letterman and Couric, relative to their views. They strike me as shallow and weak. Palin implicitly understands the limitations of Reason. Moral relativists do not. Our founding fathers also understood man’s limitations and established a constitution whose core principle was Liberty, supported strongly by laws to protect this Liberty. The Left, on the other hand, believe that “truth” can be imposed on individuals and society as a whole. Many have commented on the futility of the latter. Frederich Hayek’sThe Road To Serfdom is the clearest explanation of how that view ultimately and logically has lead to totalitarianism; the ultimate expression of political nihilism and its philosophical antecedent, moral relativism.
This philosophical divide is one reason for the Left’s hysteria over Palin’s very existence. It is as if, somewhere down in the lizard portion of their brain (You Have Three Brains), they understand her way of thinking could lay bare the implicit nihilism in theirs. The more ignorant element of the Left pretends that Palin is so obviously stupid, vapid and reactionary that she is fair game for dehumanization. Not all in the Left leaning Media-Entertainment complex can be categorized as such. Lorne Michaels, for example, understands Palin’s strengths, even as he disagrees with her (Lorne Michaels Praises Sarah Palin). But he is a rare exception among this group. Couric and Letterman have other problems. Their respective ratings have been consistently lower than their competition. ABC and NBC Nightly News ratings are higher than Couric’s by an average of 50%; and Leno consistently had ratings approximately 30% higher than Letterman. We will see how O’Brien fares. But lets get right to the immediate controversies.
The Couric Pomposity
Even as Couric continues to fail, she gathers awards and honors at a rapid pace. Most recently, she gave the commencement address to this year’s graduating class at Princeton, in my home state of New Jersey. She chuckled in her speech how “she can see New Jersey from her house”. This was a supposed ironic reference to Palin’s comment in Charlie Gibson’s interview about being able to see Russia from certain parts of Alaska. Palin’s comment was one of many “proofs” of her stupidity. Yet, any person with an IQ above 65 obviously understood her comment as a simple existential observation. Proximity makes things less abstract. Is this hard to understand?
If one has any doubt about the logical implications of moral relativism run amok, one need look no further than Princeton’s “Bioethicist”, Professor Peter Singer. Singer believes in a concept called “speciesism“. The simplest way to understand this philosophy is to watch a Geico Caveman commercial. Speciesism believes no one species (for example, humans) have superior rights over any other species (for example, rodents). Singer also believes families can kill their own disabled babies. Singer is a true idiot, even as his views are, in fact, logically consistent with much of what is believed by the Left. He simply is drawing out some of its philosophical implications. But people like Palin already know that at “the end of that path” is nothingness. People like Couric do not. Couric reached the pinnacle of her self regard after her interview with Palin prior to the ‘08 election. This interview, so the mythology goes, indisputably laid bare the complete lack of qualifications of Sarah Palin to be Vice President. She was excoriated by the media for that interview even though she did not say; “I don’t speak Austrian” (Obama says he doesn’t speak Austrian) or say her bowling is “like the Special Olympics.” (there is a little “Peter Singer” in that quote, don’t you think?). Even the “Mr. Jones” wing of the Republican Party was highly critical.
The essence of Couric’s speech was simple, pointless, cringe inducing pandering. Katie Couric: My Speech To Princeton’s Class of 2009. People whose beliefs or principles are on flimsy grounds, or even non existent, can be very insecure. They emotionally survive by seeking the approval of others. So she played it safe. She praised Sonia Sotomayor and mocked 20 year old Carrie Prejean. She praised Michelle Obama and mocked Rush Limbaugh and Donald Rumsfeld. She quoted approvingly from Malcolm Gladwell’s awful book “Outliers”. She seemed frighteningly desperate in her initial comments. She clearly studied hard to appear “modern” and “young”. It was self conscious and artificial. She voiced opinions which she assumed were mainstream for Princeton graduates, and I am sure they were. She was a pure parody of herself.
But Sarah Palin is supposed to be the idiot.
David “Louis” Letterman
Recall the movie, Jackie Brown, Quentin Tarantino’s adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s novel, “Rum Punch”? In one of the funniest “dark humor” scenes in cinematic history, Samuel L Jackson (”Ordell”) had just shot the bungling Robert DeNiro (”Louis”) in the head for losing $500K. Staring at his dead friend in the driver’s seat of their car he said; “What the f**k happened to you man? S**t, your ass used ta’ be so beautiful”. His point was Louis used to be smart and energetic. Now he had degenerated into a lethargic empty husk of his old self. So much so, that despite every benefit of the doubt he had extended to Louis, he was just too far gone. In their world, that meant he simply had to be killed. Louis is David Letterman. He should just walk off the set. He used to be really funny. He now seems to be aware, unlike Louis who was blissfully unaware, that he too has lost it. Apparently, this makes him very angry.
As with Couric, he goes for the pandering stuff. Palin is supposed to be easy pickings. His frustrated self awareness has begun to cloud his judgment. If you watched his monologue, you can literally see him try to restrain his anger, even hatred, as he leads the audience up to the Alex Rodriguez-Willow Palin “joke”. The audience seemed to love it. He now is apologizing for supposedly not knowing the difference between Willow (age 14) and Bristol (age 18), implying that the same joke about Bristol would have been fine. I guess in Louis’ world, all white trash tramps and their slutty looking mothers look alike. Misogyny is perfectly good when applied to people like Sarah Palin. Do you see what I mean by moral relativism? Ultimately, it leads to nihilism. Lost in the shuffle was the racial stereotyping of Alex Rodriguez. That is itself interesting.
The fact that she was in NYC for a charity supporting research for Autism was ignored. I am surprised Letterman did not have Peter Singer on to discuss his views on childhood Autism. Perhaps he can get Obama on to discuss the Special Olympics with Singer while he is at it.
Sarah Palin Speaks English
Read the following response carefully from Palin about Letterman; “Laughter incited by sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/N.Y. entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands – that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be any one’s daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.” What is different about this statement then statements made by many, if not most, politicians? It is judgmental. She uses the words “perversion” and “disgusting”. Her language is morally charged. Peter Singer does not believe in “sexual perversion”. Palin did not refer to the sexual perversion merely as a function of Letterman’s comment being directed at a 14 year old. Letterman’s comments themselves were sexually perverted “aimed” at a 14 year old. How many politicians use the term “sexual perversion” or the word “disgusting” regarding sex? Every one shrinks from such judgments. Yet there was no hidden agenda in her comments. What you saw, was what you got.
Obama’s speech in Cairo was a quintessential representation of pandering “moral relativism”. This is the nature of the “Great Palin Divide”. Palin’s language is always the same. She speaks about everything in a straight forward manner without straining for audience approval. She is direct. She does not use tortured logic, cheap philosophical tricks, or desperate techniques. She speaks English.
For some reason, this drives the Left nuts.

Fire Letterman now. I read there will be a protest march at Letterman's studio this Monday.
Gov. Palin is probaly the finest example of a conservative, principled leader we have in America today. Her forthright and genuine conservatism, coupled with the popularity that she has, scares the living hell out of every member of the vast "left-wing conspiracy" (MSM, left wing blogs, entertainment industry and members of the Democratic party elite). The fact that she is a conservative, believes in conservatism, can explain it and make others want to follow-is anethema to the left-wing, and their view of women. As such she must be destroyed in a calculated, arranged manner.
Of course it drives the left nuts. Every day the left pats themselves on the back over how smart, how tolerant, how entertaining and funny they are. And if we, the great unwashed conservatives can't see their genius, then there is something wrong with us!
More and more, the general public of 'fly over country' are rejecting them. Leaving only the LA-NY groupthink to just keep on thinking that the problem is ours and not theirs. They think they can just continue 'busines as usual' and we'll just go back to them. That's how many once successful corperations fail.
In short, adapt or be swept aside!
It was interesting catching the re-run of Saturday Night Live this past weekend, from just a month ago and with Will Ferrell as host. What mention there was about Obama (mainly in the Weekend Update segment) was in a defensive mode with attacks on his political enemies, as if the cast and the writing staff seem to think of themselves as some sort of video Praetorian Guards to protect the president. And this show was done in May, after numerous presidental gaffes, not in January, when he had just taken office.
Letterman and his staff seem to view their job in the same way. With Obama in power, their job is no longer to make fun of the president or his staff when something goes wrong, but to protect his viability and prevent him from being subject to ridicule that could negatively affect his poll numbers, while at the same time targeting his potential 2012 challengers. Palin is Target No. 1 right now both because she could be a threat in '12 and for what she stands for (conservative women with big families are not supposed to do anything in the left's eyes but meekly be subservient to their husbands), but if a threat is seen from some other sources, like a Romney or a Huckabee, you can be sure they'll get their turn in Letterman's barrel.
(There is the Bill Maher caveat here – Maher came out and attacked Obama this past week in the L.A.Times and on his HBO show, but it was from the left, for not going fast enough or far enough with his social reforms, economic changes and pulling away from the War on Terror. Rachel Maddow also has hit Obama there, as has Rosanne, as whack jobby as she is. So if you see Letterman suddenly start taking a jab or to at the president, it will be part of an entertainment/big media industry effort to poke him further over to the left, not back towards the political center).
Sure, Sarah Palin speaks English: as in her musings on the "Bush Doctrine:" "In what respect?" "His world view." Etc., etc. Brilliant.
There are millions of individuals, entertainers, politicians, business leaders, professionals, everyday people of every sort, who have exactly the same ideals and values as Palin. It's interesting that it is *Sarah* that scares the left witless to the point of soiling themselves. Perhaps this is why Letterman is so angry…the diaper changes aren't as frequent as they need to be.
So what is to be done about it? Her message is powerful and straight forward, and full of things people do not want to hear even if they should. Talking to friends, all they know of Palin is the sterotype that the media is making of her. Instead of a positive image campaign for something like laundry detergent, a new car, or The One, they are running a negative campaign to define her. From the intensity of it they must be terrified, but realistically what can be done. Even now their is an ongoing message that she is not spending enough time on her duties. If she says nothing, their image mongering will set in, if she counter attacks, she's neglecting her responsibilities.
Letterman is a rude and sick person who cracks jokes on raping of other's daughter and all the liberal idiots who support him have no morals / ethics
Some good points overall, but I take issue with the notion that Peter Singer is "an idiot." I think many of Singer's views are atrocious, but that doesn't make him an idiot. The fact that he is responsible for the animal rights movement alone deserves praise, even if I find concepts like speceism silly. However, as someone who grew up and continues to live in the country around animals, I don't think it's a bad thing that thinking people do consider where their meat comes from and how it was treated before being brought to slaughter – this is largely because of Singer, the movement he started and the book "Animal Liberation."
My point? I don't agree with much of what people like Singer and, as another popular example, Chomsky have to say, but calling them idiots is just plain stupid.
I am soooo sick of the left, I don't even watch TV news anymore. It seems everyone, and everything is all put to use propping up Obama's corruption. An Americorps IG (Walpin) discovered several hundred thousand taxpayer dollars were misspent by Kevin Johnson (former NBA star and Obama supporter) on his St. HOPE academy. Walpin gets some of the money returned- IGs are supposed to be above politics, and he was doing his job to clean things up and save the government money! Johnson is now mayor of Sacremento, and the IG got fired by Obama for doing his job- right after Obama "supported" a law that would prevent the executive branch from arbitrarily firing him! Leftist-elite cronies get rewarded, while anyone critical is ousted- especially for protecting the people!
If I turned on the TV, I seriously doubt I'd ever see Couric or her ilk run anything as transparent or honest as this story! Where is the outrage??? Why are our rights, our money, and our decency being stripped from us- and why is it so easy for the left to do it???
If David Letterman's son 'knocks up' his girlfriend in highschool, is he fair game for ridicule or not?
Ego defense mechanisms seem to work on a larger scale when groupthink is involved. I'm saddened to see so many people in denial about the state of the world and the inability to differentiate between what is real and what is ideal. Fairness has become a justification for any implication that on the surface seems to make things 'fair'.
I am happy to see a voice like Palin's. Indeed anyone who can understand simple philosophical syllogisms and logical fallacies is A-OK in my books.
[...] views, I make no similar claims specifically about Letterman and Couric, relative to their views. ~Philosophical Divide: Sarah Palin vs. Pop Culture’s Moral Relativists by Michael S. Rulle [...]
"A house divide against its self cannot stand" Our founding fathers had a different take on this old adage and put the tenth amendment in the Bill of rights. It is time for the Conservative to enforce State sovereignty. Federalism is a good thing and we should use it. Let the left have their beliefs where they have the majority. We can go back to fifty experiments in liberty and the free market will decide who prospers.
There has never been a sheer and utter hatred for a political figure (not even David Duke) from the media and entertainment establishment like that towards Sarah Palin. The sad fact is that the they can destroy a career if they want and hers is destroyed…on a national level anyway. I got to meet McCain and Palin on a campaign stop, and while McCain was kind of a jerk…maybe not a jerk, but cold and detatched and uninterested (like his campaign, why did he run?)…Sarah Palin and her family couldn't have been any nicer. Politicians are a sordid lot and many deserve to be ridiculed and attacked, but not her.
[...] S. Rulle Jr. explains why Palin is loved by America and how David Letterman and Katie Couric suck. Okay he is more eloquent than that. Hey wasn’t [...]
Realistically, Mike, it is up to her. If she can maintain the tough edge we saw on Matt Lauer and apply it to a variety of topics, she will be hard to beat. The media will not quit. But eventually, she will have to start playing offense, not just aggressive defense. We still have a full year before the unofficial campaign begins. If she wants it, she can have the nomination. It is clear what she is capable of.
PALIN 2012!!!!!!!!!!
Gov. Palin may not be the most articulate at times but I do believe that woman is one of the smartest and strongest woman in Politics today… Gov. Palin has every right to strike out at Letterman… not only for what he said about her daughter (does it really matter which one he "meant"?) and for herself…
Anything that doesn't pander to the left's way of thought drives them crazy… And there is a reason that Couric has the lowest ratings for network evening news and there is a reason that Letterman stooped to this low blow… They suck and they know it and will do anything for ratings… that is why they keep bringing up Palin in the first place… all that woman did was go to NYC with her daughter and Letterman felt the need to bring her back up again? It's funny how the left complains about her 15 minutes being over already and then THEY are the ones to put her back in the spotlight… :/
CBK. I agree with your sentiment. I too love animals and have 9 pets (2 parrots, 2 dogs, 3 cats, and 2 horses!). But Singer can still be an idiot. Hitler also loved his dog. It is his overall perspective (Singer) which truly does make him an idiot,
It's hard to tell from a few words, but it looks to me as though you're being sarcastic in calling Palin "Brilliant". She knew she was tip-toeing through a minefield with Gibson and he was going to be sniping at her as she did. "In what respect?" WAS a brilliant answer, forcing the table to turn on the liberal shill Gibson. The "Bush Doctrine" was nothing carved in stone and even the originator of the phrase Charles Krauthammer said there was no one single meaning. Five will get you ten Gibson didn't know.
Palin's answer would've been perfect if she'd replied "Pre or post-9/11, Chuck?"
Hey genius. There was no "Bush Doctrine" as such; it was a crappy, cheap shot question designed to make Palin look dumb, at least in the eyes of people who were dumb enough not to question their own memories on the subject. Had you ever heard of the "Bush Doctrine" prior to Gibson's question? Me neither.
And yet, a year later you're still citing that as though it were some big "gotcha" moment. That's kind of sad, really.
My thoughts exactly, StlDan. Of course, you articulated it better than I could. Let the Blue states go straight to hell with high taxes, big government regulation, and corrupt unions while the Red states enjoy economic prosperity and individual freedom. Then, as Ronald Reagan said, let people vote with their feet.
For the Soros formula to work, you've got to have time to isolate and divide through mass media deception. Like Reagan, Sarah remains outspoken, and while easier to attack by his stooges, her makes sense message gets out. GW was too focused on the high road that the low road crumbled under his feet, and the finally the media got the people to view him as an incompetant fool. Now with this worsening situation, it's harder to use ridicule and subterfuge as a campaign platform – a lot of people are angry and antsy, making tools like Couric and Dave and their message irrelevant and obvious. In TV, that's not good.
Actually, the correct term would be "fool". As in, "professing themselves to be wise they became fools and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man…"
A fool can be quite intelligent and yet still reach a sad and self-destructive conclusion.
It amuses me that every jab and attack on Governor Palin and her family, each a "calculated" attempt from the left to weaken her nationally, only serves to strengthen her as well as encourage further steps towards a presidential run in 2012. I do not know if she will or will not, but by trying to force irrevelance upon her, they have been giving her the stage she needs to let the rest of the nation truly know who she is and what she stands for.
If Letterman's son looks anything like dad, I doubt he'll be knocking up anyone in high school.
Wishful thinking, I'm afraid. I really like Sarah Palin but I doubt she's a viable national candidate after the trashing she took in the last election cycle.
McCain used her in an effort to save his own floundering @ss, and now she's politically damaged goods.
A shame, really. On the other hand, she didn't have to accept the nomination.
Let Letterman, Couric, et al. continue to make their ignorant comments. In fact, they should be encouraged to do so. It hurts, rather than helps, the Democratic Party.
Actually I would agree that Peter Singer is not an idiot. That word absolves him of the responsibility for evil. He is not an idiot. He is evil. Like Goebbels or Himmler, he fully understands what evil he wants to inflict upon the world and uses his substantial intellectual gifts to attempt to do so.
Peter Singer is evil. He is the founder of bioethics. Peter Singer believes that disabled people, infants who are not perfect, and those who are no longer capable of functioning in society should be euthanized. In a famous debate with Father John Neuhaus, Peter Singer admitted that he took care of his gravely ill mother even though she, herself, was incapable of functioning in society. He said that his mother didn't count in his philosophy because she was his mother. He is a hypocrite, too, of course.
I loved Dean Koontz' book "One Door Away from Heaven." In it, you'll learn all about bioethicists like Peter Singer and what a world they wish to bring to us. I loathe Peter Singer. Absolutely loathe him.
Nice turd you dropped there. So, why don't you simply tell us what you don't like about Sara Pallin?
Siding with your views on animal treatment doesn't prove that SInger is bright. He just may be lucky or a soft touch for fido.
Actually, if it is my daughter he knocks up, he's fair game for a butt whipping.
And speaking of articulate, Ah ah ah ah ah, where's my teleprompter?????
Most of those today who profess a "relativist" philosophy don't actually mean it. Their relativism only only applies to their political opponents.. The squishy leftist who pontificates that "all belief systems are equally valid" suddenly becomes a raving absolutist when his own values are questioned. So too today's media and intelligentsia regularly profess a benign (and completely false) "tolerance for all views" as a smoggy cover for their hard-fisted political program. Whatever her other merits, Ms. Palin offers both a persona and worldview that cuts through this suffocating intellectual fog. She is the antithesis of the smarmy ironists (typified by David Letterman) who dominate most of our national discourse. She is also that absolute rarity in public life, a fully formed human being with a life outside of politics. As such she is the total "anti-nihilist" and, as such, a small but significant danger to the "Kultursmog" of the Left.
"… but calling them idiots is just plain stupid."
Please, please, please… do not tell me that the irony in this sentence escaped you.
Actually referring to your 4th paragraph, Palin never said she "could see Russia from her house", that was from the a Parody on Sat Nite live, not a Palin quote.
So add to the absurdity, the award winning Couric is miming a comedienne. She's quoting Tina Fey, but her audience doesn't even know it. Get it, it's all just a big charade for them. Truth is relative to a Lib. Facts are not necessary to make a point. See Global Warming and dying Polar bears during the one of the coldest summer on record. Or we cannot build a Nuclear Power Plant, but must respect Iran's need to do so.
Do you understand now why they want to legalize weed? These Lib's are already so mentally irreverent, why not just let them get high, how does it hurt?
The ticket in 2008 should have been the other way around, if McCain had to be on it at all. I agree with alot of what has been said here in that Palin embodies all the core Conservative principles. She would be an outstanding leader and POTUS. Next time around they need to let Palin be Palin and we will see a very differen outcome.
Gov. Palin showed more class during the campaign than Letterman and Couric have their entire lives. Palin was fed a crap sandwich every day and never showed signs of breaking under the pressure. Obama was never put under any kind of pressure for the two years he was running. Too bad that we have to see how he handles it now that he's in office. With the world stage heating up I think we may see it very soon.
Maybe Letterman could stick to jokes about underage boys that grow up with baby daddy celebrities that hate women.
I am loving this blow-back at the Gap-tooted One. (I refuse to speak or type his name ever again.)
I stopped paying attention to him during President Bush's re-election season (2004). Then, just a couple weeks ago (before the Palin drama) we caught about 15 seconds of his monologue while channel-surfing. Of course, the only joke I heard was him blaming America's financial woes on old, rich, white Republicans dudes. Classic. My first monologue joke in 4 years, and it was just like the LAST monologue joke I heard. Too funny.
Let's hope the Palin flap doesn't revive his lagging career.
Eagerly awaiting the New Hollywood.
Cliff
Let me guess; you never saw the list of the questions Gibson asked Obama (presidential candidate) compared to the ones he asked Palin. Gibson's bias and agenda is laid bare.
I don't agree with the idea that we demand that EVERYONE who says something we don't like ought to be fired.
I believe politicians should be held to a higher standard. But that beings said, Letterman is an entertainer. A pathetic, bitter, irrational, petty old-man of an entertainer, but one nonetheless. His career should not be ended because of one idiotic, unfunny joke.
BUT! I do believe that the people ought to decide. Just don't watch him. Ignore him as he deserves. If the masses let his ratings drop, he will be fired eventually. Not for the joke, but because no one is watching. …Same thing should have been for Imus with the whole "nappy-headed" thing.
If conservatives demand the jobs of every Leftist entertainer who says something offensive then A) we are no different from the totalitarian Left, and B) late night talk shows will cease to exist… which may not be a bad thing, come to think of it.
Why? An idiot is a senseless or foolish person.
I'm glad to hear that there will be a protest of Letterman's studio. It's time to give these lefty jerks in entertainment a little bit of their own medicine.
Don't be discouraged but it will be an uphill fight, just like the tea parties were either ignored or just mocked by the liberal media. Don't expect any serious acknowledgement from them.
Anyway, conservatives are not naturally good at protesting. We have jobs, don't have that much free time and generally we aren't as whiny and shrill as the left are.
Best wishes all the same.
David Duke didn't have a snowball's chance of ever being elected president.
Sarah Palin, on the other hand, is the only reason McLame got more than 25% of the popular vote and frankly if she's on the top of the ticket in 2012 has a tremendous chance of dethroning God-King Barry.
THAT is why she must be destroyed so anyone even remotely like her will decide against running and anyone that likes her will decide against voting or speaking publicly.
The media war on Palin is going to backfire big time. The coming backlash against Obama's policies is going to be amplified by the culture war. Lets just hope this all happens before the Dems can do irreparable damage.
Dang, Dave looks ancient. It really has been a long time since I've watched him.
The Left propaganda machine- when choosing a "conservative" pundit (to balance the 3 or 4 liberals who are ALWAYS presented ) for their panel discussions- ALWAYS CHOOSE A CHENEY/RUSH/PALIN , REAL CONSERVATIVE HATER to represent OUR SIDE.
Thus leaving the impression that Cheney, Rush, and Sarah have NO defenders. This HAS TO STOP. We have to call out Frum, Noonan, Brooks et al, for the lib lites that they are. They do not represent conservatism.
Let's trot out Drew Barrymore again to get a real reading of the moral turpitude integral to this show. Like Ed Ames tomahawk,, a late night talk show always circles back to the lowest common denominator. That the press now repeats things that were said on these banal shows and treats them as politicially astute is a sad commentary on the times.
We have met the enemy , and it is us.
Ever since I took my public speaking class in college (and it was at a community college) I cannot stand to hear uh… uh… uh… at least Palin pauses to try and figure out what she wants to say…. and I would have stammered if I were under the evil eye of Couric too… :/
well said. And correct, as well…
Letterman hates Palin because he knows he can't have her.
[...] Read the entire article: Michael S. Rulle Jr., Big Hollywood: Philosophical Divide: Sarah Palin vs. Pop Culture’s Moral Relativists [...]
A prime indicator of Letterman's arrogance and condescending attitute is this comment, "He now is apologizing for supposedly not knowing the difference between Willow (age 14) and Bristol (age 18), …" The worm makes a caustic, sexist remark about someone he doesn't even know! Where I'm from a guy who shoots off his face about strangers is asking for a fat lip. Another indication of his arrogance is his failure to apologize straight up. He can't admit being wrong, he can't apologise for doing harm, he can't put aside his immense ego–all signs of a little person. The progressives in this country are completely out of touch. So consumed by their own h8r virtual reality they have lost sight of the world around them. If they weren't in positions of power it would be funny.
There is a saying that goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Since they drove Nixon from office, and then ridiculed Ford, liberals have been using one strategy and simply repeating it. That is, impugn the intelligence of any candidate that opposes them and mock and ridicule them through enough of their media outlets that a certain percentage of the uninformed and uneducated population then start believing and repeating. It’s very effective. Even if their candidate loses, they continue the theme to take credibility away from the sitting president.
So how do we change the dynamics that the left has so cleverly arranged? It is going to take a change in attitude among conservatives. That is a hard one, because conservatives have different priorities than liberals. Unlike many liberals, things like families, church, and work come before politics and causes. The unfortunate thing is that while conservatives are holding their lives together, their country is being stolen from them. Liberals love to cry "hate speech" anytime anyone disagrees with them. The reality is, much of what Hollywood and the left have been claiming as comedy or humor has in fact been pure unadulterated hate speech. Perhaps the venomous Letterman comments were finally the tipping point, where we finally say, “That’s enough. We’re not going to sit back and allow you to get away with this anymore.” I hope so.
Peoria
You are correct that she did not say "she could see Russia from her house", but she did reference on Charlie Gibson that Russia could be seen from Alaska. Her point was as I said. Alaskans are a bit more "existentially" aware of the potential danger from Russia because of this proximity. Thanks for your comment.
Mike Rulle
Nice analysis. Intuitively obvious, yet it can be difficult to put into words. You have succeeded!
You make one serious mistake – substituting animal "rights" for animal "welfare." The two are very different. As a dog "owner," not "guardian," I am responsible for the welfare of MY animals. If animals have "rights," then who is responsible for their welfare? Themselves?
This organization is great at explaining the differences in terms:
http://www.naiaonline.org/index.htm
So, let me get this straight. David Letterman, and all the other self-absorbed libs think it's OK to continually bash Sarah Palin because her 18-year-old daughter is a single mom. Aren't they supposed to be the defenders of single moms, oh, unless that single mom is the daughter of a conservative politician. Such hypocrites.
Oh, and I guess they wouldn't make fun of Bristol and the Palin family if she would have done the decent thing and aborted her baby. (Liberals can abort babies without consequence; conservatives will be ridiculed whether they keep or abort their babies. It's a no-win situation).
Think about it: Libs are the people encouraging promiscuity, so obstensibly they wouldn't make fun of a teenager for being promiscuous. They wouldn't make fun of a teenager for having an abortion. But they declare open season on a conservative teenage girl who "chooses" to follow her values and to have and keep her baby.
Liberals mock life itself.
Talk about nihlism!
At one point, a simple HONEST apology would have sufficed. But Dave decided to play it cute and do that half hearted/"I'm sorry if you were offended"/I was talking about the older daughter excuse. Now a apology won't cut the mustard. I don't think he needs to be fired, but he thinks he doesn't need to be punished at all. I hope people vote with their remote controls and make Dave realize that he answerble to his audience.
The guy that invented the term Bush Doctrine said there were about five various versions of the Bush Doctrine. Likewise, it was an invented term that not everyone else was aware of. So the proper question would be to ask in what respect was Gibson referring? Which is what Palin did. The fact that idiot leftists want to make Sarah an offender regardless of what word she chooses to use says that leftists are predetermined to hate her and it will continue to show.
[...] Michael S. Rulle has this excellent commentary on this subject over at Big Hollywood. Apparently Katie Couric, the most vapid human being ever to win a rigged fight in history, was the [...]
What's really maddening, is the "what?….. hey it's just a conservative tramp, … so what!!!" attitude. They put aside any norms of decency, and are aghast that anyone, anyone at all is upset over it. They can't make the mental connection that what you wouldn't say about a liberal, you wouldn't say about another person. They the left, are all suddenly, "good nazi's" unfailingly in lockstep with their pop culture icons. When the highest of them, says the same things that the lowest street rapper among them would say, proudly, with a sneering smirk,.. the game's long past over,.
I'm beginning to wonder if we shouldn't just divide the country in two, each choosing where to go, wait tens years, and see which is a rampaging success, and which 'cough.. liberal' one is basketcase begging for foreign aid while condeming the other for being too stingy with a handout.
I came across a Peggy Noonan remark, one that explains the very odd silence about Palin in other 'right wing' sites, and the strange problem the RNC had in welcoming her to their last meeting. Noonan said that Palin needs more 'education', more finish, ie, she should know the name of the 'current' president of Pakistan, before she can be considered a 'national' politician.
I really doubt that Peggy Noonan knows the name of Exxon's president; let alone whether she has ever made a deal with that person. Palin has. Palin has managed to put together the biggest private sector deal in history, with Canada, Exxon, and the US Feds…. but she just isn't 'good enough' for Noonan and Frum and the rest of the sophisticates on the East Coast????
Heck, Gibson didn't know what the Bush Doctrine was. Whatever answer Palin gave, Charlie wouldn't have known if it was the right one or not, but he would have mocked it anyway.
I was going to say, let Obama speak off the top of his head and he bumbles and stumbles consistently.
I'm getting so tired of hearing "Now let me be perfectly clear…." and he never is.
No, because Bristol is 'fair game' supposedly because she had a child out of wedlock and since has gone on to advocate abstinence. Apparently the idea of learning from others' mistakes is foreign to liberals.
What it boils down to is an extortion racket. Hold the views we tell you to or we'll come for you.
Don't give up on Palin yet. We have not yet begun to fight!
David Letterman is a slime bag. Letterman maligns and slanders what he cannot understand because he has polluted his thinking with Leftist ideology. If Letterman had really apologized this might all be over-with and irrelevant but Letterman decided to maintain his insult towards teenage girls (don't believe Letterman's excuse that he was talking about Bristol, and SO WHAT– he still is a pervert). Don't watch Letterman and don't buy their products.
I agree. Peggy Noonan represents what used to be called the Rockefeller wing of the Republican party. That is who Reagan defeated. I now call them the Mr Jones wing (see in article above) of the party. They are blinded by Ivy league credentials–and fail to see the obvious. That is the challenge we face as conservatives.
Mike
There is a reason why Obama had no problem winning this last election and that reason was Palin. She is hateful and stupid to say the least. And incredibly uninformed! She has a newborn baby who has down syndrome and she ran for vice presidency!? Since she is sooo pro-life, she should be more concerned about how to raise her ever increasing family and not involved in politics that are way over her head.
Think the snarky comments made by Peggy Noonan and other "mainstream conservative" commentators are the reflection of the fact that Sarah hasn't asked them for "permission". She has totally short-circuited the normal "rise in the ranks" process and they are miffed. Plus add in that the other camps in the Republican Party (Romney, et al) are just as terrified of Sarah as is the Left. They know she is going to steamroll them in the nomination process if she runs and they too must destroy her before that happens.
BTW Rumor is Letterman tried to get Governor Palin on his show when she was in New York prior to the infamous monologue and was rebuked. So he decided to show her that one just doesn't say no to David. Now the joke is on him.
This was a nicely crafted, intelligent, well written post.
They are moral idiots. An idiocy which could easily manifest itself in late term abortion after the birth of a child- merely because the 'mother' wants to do so. Singer and the ALF/ELF crowd are moral idiots.
If Sarah is stupid and uninformed and manages to runs a complex state such as Alaska, it really puts BO's lack of experience and small world view on exhibit!! As a community organizer in Chicago, he is the one with the limited world view (liberal/socialist) , which he puts on display every time he tries to talk to the leader of any other nation!!!!
So, women should not be in politics if they have children?? That lets out Hilary and almost every other Democrat/Liberal woman in politics! Or is that just because she's Pro Life? Its Ok if you are Pro Abortion to be in politics because I guess their kids should just be grateful they weren't aborted?
Palin as most conservatives the Left nuts because she sees no gray area in issues – they are either right or wrong. No moral relativism. Moral Relativism is a slippery slop that leads to no truths or affirmation. It would be an interesting exercise to see how today's left would view Hitler's Germany. Or how a Walter Duranty viewed Stalin's Russia.
Oh wait, he said it was great. And won a Pulitzer for it.
What she learned is that abstinance only even when backed by a loving conservative family doesn't work. She IS walking proof of that. If the Palin family, who conservatives hold as their standard bearer, cannot pull it off what makes them think others can? She openely admitted that abstinance only failed in her case as did her boyfriend. He maintains that pov but now she has changed. The difference? She is a spokesperson now and must say she believes in it again. How morally relative is that?
She made a mistake and she is showing other people the repercussions of that mistake to help them do better than her. Why does that bother you so much?
Oh also about this: "If the Palin family, who conservatives hold as their standard bearer, cannot pull it off what makes them think others can?"
Hmm, leftists might worship Obama as a god, but to us Palin is just plain folks. You seem ready to abandon the idea of abstinence because it didn't work one time. Millions of people pull this off, and seeing what happens when someone fails at it is a good object less.
Exactly. The left and the RINOs want to play "Gotcha!" with those who don't play the game. If you notice, it makes little difference that Obama thinks there are 57 states or that Biden is perhaps the biggest buffon we've seen on national TV since Ted Baxter. But let a conservative give an answer that they don't deem correct and it's never to be forgotten. Like my last post said, conservatives will need to take this Palin moment and loudly proclaim they are not going to sit back and accept this double standard anymore if it is to stop. The question is, are they too afraid of the bullies out there? Will they will quickly retreat into smiling graciously and ignoring these attacks once more.
Seeing "no gray area" is every bit as ignorant as seeing nothing BUT gray area. How anyone can live in the real world and not see that is beyond me. A fundamentally "gray" world only makes sense in an abstact philosophy classroom, a fundamentally black and white world only makes sense in a Church – neither of which are places that have much function or use outside of shallow intellectual self-stimulation in the modern world.
There are SOME things in the world that are absolutely good, perfect and wonderful. There are SOME things that are pure evil. Grouped together, they make up about MAYBE 5% of the whole picture – the rest of it? Yes, varying shades of questionability and perspective.
Palin is not a conservative answer to Obama or even Hillary – she's Kucinich, minus the inexplicably hot wife. Stays on message, gives good copy, gins up a crowd, but fundamentally ill-suited for a leadership. A leader has to be a THINKER, while she is merely a BELIEVER.
One thing that you obviously don't understand is what Christians believe so please don't talk about Conservatives/Christians until you actually try to understand it. Conservatives are not dumb, we know about birth control. We take the same classes that you did in High School. Christians do not think they are better than anyone. They only try to better themselves. The one thing that EVERY Christian has in common is that we are all NOT PERFECT. So, if you think that we are going to point our fingers at Bristol Palin for making a mistake, you are absolutely wrong. It is you who points out mistakes. It is the Left who points out peoples flaws.
Having Children isn't a punishment, as Obama has said on the Campaign Trail. Having a child should be celebrated. But what this leftist society has done is made pregnancy a bad thing and it's to be aborted at once because it is too inconvenient. Bristol made her mistake and she's not punishing the child for it. Good for her.
Bottom Line is, Bristol failed, Abstinence did not fail because abstinence works every time it's tried.
To the moron who wrote this if you were educated you would find that the person who coined the term Bush Doctrine wrote an article about the term after that interview and talks about how really Palin was the one in the write. Because the, "Bush Doctrine," changed and morphed with the Bush Presidency. What started out as the doctrine of wanted dead or alive, with us or against us and good vs evil, ENDed as a belief that bringing democracy to the world would make us more safe and pieceful. I am sure you have been asleep through most of the War in Iraq and everyting else that happened over the last 8 years but someday when you get the time you should read about how the, "Bush Doctrine," wasn't set in stone and was a changing policy as the haze of September 11th faded and the realities of the long war set in. People who dont know shouldnt talk and if you want to talk it would be great if you read enough to know your facts before talking so people dont have to help you learn the basics. I live in China and you make all Americans LOOK stupid cause I have a censored media outlet and know more then your retarded uneducated ass.

At first, I agreed with you because too many people have that Tina Fay quote stuck in their head and they follow the marketing that the MSM has put out there. But then I watch her speak and she's so full of common sense that it makes me hope that she does run again. This is a tough one but I think she'd be able to pound Obama into the sand because of his first 6 months in office, and she's got 3.5 years more material to sift through.
I am a libertarian, and I loathe Palin. If the Dems were smart, they would leave her alone, even prop her up, and let her rise to "challenge" Obama in 2012, because he would absolutely crush her. The only value of Palin is playing the part of sacrificial lamb in the next election. She is uneducated and comes across like a moron. Sorry, Michael S. Rulle Jr., it IS a dumbass notion that you'll be better equipped to diplomatically deal with a contentious foreign nation because their planes fly over your state first and you can see a little bit of their country from your shore. This is the woman who was asked what news sources she reads and, after struggling, said "All of 'em!!" Combine that with her screechy voice and "you betcha" winks, and this woman is FAR from presidential. Say anything you like about Obama – and I hate his political views, I think he's damaging this country with plans for a government health care option and continuing so-called "stimulus" waste – but the man is presidential. He has class and education, and is well-spoken. After 8 years of 'misunderestimated' Bush, the country needed class and sophistication again. Palin does not have the gravitas, to pull out an old phrase. Romney is the answer, but because he's Mormon you 'great American' bible-thumpers won't elect him.
This article is way too funny. Thank you Big Hollywood for making this humorous piece part of my Monday. Casting the Letterman / Palin faux feud in terms of contrasting philosophies and views of the constitution is laughing out loud outrageous. Dude, you should consider giving up your day job. There may be work for you in late night comedy.
Freddie, Freddie, Freddie. What a sad, meaningless life you must lead. Governor Palin – hopefully President Palin one day – is your better in every way. That's not saying much I guess since you are just a sneering d-bag hipster who thinks that wearing a knit hat, smoking clove cigarettes and subscribing to the UTNE reader makes him significant. Hint – it doesn't. You will die alone and unloved.
Too true! The elite of BOTH parties assume that there is a ruling class defined by bloodline, education at the 'correct' institutions, or, preferably, both. The very notion of one of the 'common folk' in a leadership position offends their worldview. One wonders who would have more in common at a meeting with the Founding Fathers: Governor Palin or Noonan, Krauthammer, et al. My money's on Palin, who would not only be able to compare views on government by, for, and OF the people, but would do so while juggling infants, and preparing mooseburgers!
You throw around words like 'hateful' and 'stupid' with the only example of either being your very own post. Governor Palin was more qualified than any of the Senators running for the same and higher office. Obie did NOT win by a landslide, and the ONLY reason he did not was because Governor Palin was on the ticket.
Please slam your head into the nearest concrete wall for your stupidity. The only reason McCain got as many votes as head did was due to Sarah. She was the only thing that energized the Republican base. But as you are undoubtedly an ugly (inside and out) leftard, your comments are understandable. Sarah Palin has everything you will never have. A real man who loves her. Children who love and respect her. She is a governor of a frickin' state and has tens of millions of people who respect and admire her. Please feel free to list your significant accomplishments in life. Use both sides of a post-it note if you need to. Tool.
You certainly chose an odd country to reside in (unless it's an accident of birth that you are an American), as we do not actually HAVE a ruling class such as that which you seem to admire so greatly. From your post, you seem to disagree with many Obie policies, but just love the way he puts them to you, whereas you cite no policy differences between yourself and either Bush or Palin, yet their lack of artifice is enough to inspire 'loathing'. Yet you seem to think of yourself as 'intelligent'. I'd rethink.
I'm Sarah Palin I'll tell ya what, I can see russia from me house I can. Gonna name my next kid twig.
Yawn. Like Republicans need advice from losertarians. How many elections have you guys won? The big O has three and a half more years to go – at this rate he is looking at getting crushed in a landslide. People said that Carter had class and was presidential and well-spoken. Reagan was just a B-actor and intellectual light-weight blah, blah, blah. Look how that turned out. Pretty speeches can get you elected once. But unless he performs – and he isn't. He will get beaten. I hope she does win the Presidency just so "smart" folks like yourself have a giant collective brain aneurysm. Tool.
Ultimately this whole Letterman thing will end up bad for you. Just like Palin got you all riled up, then ultimately failed.
And dude, you should get an actual job. And a life while you are at it. What is it with you d-bags showing up here? Go back to the Krazy Kos Kids or Huffpunks.
Several months ago, I was returning home to Salt Lake City from Wichita, on a 3.5 hour flight. I was seated beside an intelligent, articulate, educated, successful business owner from the area, who was on his way to Denver for a business meeting. He was in a talkative mood, so we conversed throughout most of the flight. For half of that time, do you know what we talked about? How scary President Obama's politics had been so far through his administration, and how worried we were for the state of our country. He had arguments I'd never even considered. He knew exactly what he was talking about, and he knew how those policies were directly affecting his business, his family and his friends.
All I can do is compare his statements to those of, say, Megan Fox, who parrots back what she's told about Middle America, and it leaves me staggered that people actually believe and respect her for her comments. Even Jon Stewart, who is not vapid, unintelligent, or unarticulate, just doesn't see what those of us normal, everyday Americans see. There are many reasons to be opposed to the current administration, and those reasons directly affect us every single day.
Wow – looks like some just took the freshman philosophy course at the local community college. Brilliant dissertation there Socrates. You do realize you are committing the same error you are accusing others of right? And I love how someone like yourself who has probably never lead a group of preschoolers to the cafeteria is criticizing her leadership skills. Strange how she keeps moving up the leadership chain. Mayor, Governor, Vice-presidential candidate and a very likely Presidential candidate in a few years. Stop using all caps to emphasize your inane points. It just makes you look like a bigger moron than you already are.
You are absolutely right and I think more and more states are going to start pushing back, as they should. Otherwise, federal tyranny will continue to grow. If the federal government will not back down, sucession's always a possibility.
A more appropriate response would be for Todd Palin to simply punch Letterman in the face. I think most of the country would stand up and cheer.
I read the 70 page summary of Bush's foreign policy statement of which preemptive strike was really a minor portion. That's the only part the media grabbed and called the Bush Doctrine. He also set out that we would no longer provide foreign aid to governments that were enemies of freedom and many other points.
These guys want Palin to be there head idiot!
Who's to say Mike Rulle never abused a child?
No we have a head idiot his name is Barrack Hussein Obama, of course I think you were robbed, I voted for you for head idiot, the whole thing is rigged
No it will end with Palin in the white house in 2012..thanks for that
O.K. so now your just cut and pasting comments from the other thread, so your a clueless idiot whose also to lazy to think of new stupid and pointless things to say? Just dig a six foot hole and lie down zippy.
Bravo Mr. Rulle!
Your article was complete and well reasoned. It went just far enough outside the specific Letterman-Palin dustup to clearly make the point and give us the perspective that this issue and its foundations deserve.
After the open-minded reader consumes some of Hayek's writings they can read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and write their own critiques of trash-thought.
Dave is done. Nothing left but resentment, pandering and lame self-congratulations.
Dave needs to go away; take the money and run. His bitterness is wince-inducing to
watch.
Letterman has de-volved to a shill for the amoral, pointless, talent-less, tasteless and
soulless scoundrels he used to hate. He is an embarassment to himself, his former
fans and America.
Take all your NYC gay, void, irrelevant riff raff with you. If it's on Letterman, It's Crap.
I agree Darkwolf, she appears to have really gained a lot of strength and fortitude….she knows what she faces if she decides to run for the POTUS. I think if she decides to run, she will live up to the Left's fear and trounce all other comers.
'Newt' is such a dimbulb he/sh/it think they are so clever grabbing the Newt id….these lefties have the inteeligence of a fly.
Your comments are incoherent. Did you read his Cairo speech? You are not a Libertarian; you are a poseur. No Libertarian would justify the absurd things Obama has said by saying the "man is presidential". "Truthfulness" as a screen name is some kind of Freudian misdirection.
Newt
I wish you had found it funny; that would show some intelligence. By forcing phony irony, you reveal a humorless self.
Word to the base. Democrats are not afraid of Sarah Palin. The Left is not afraid of Sarah Palin. She has zero chance of getting elected President. She did have a slim chance of succeeding to the presidency if McCain had been elected and then died in office. But the chances of her getting elected on her own are very very slim. She just doesn't have the right stuff for the job, not even close. Being the mayor,,er governor of a welfare state with fewer people than the city of Charleston SC is not a credential for the presidency of the US. Despite the hatred for the media expressed in most of these posts she really is nothing more than the creation of the media.
"Since she is sooo pro-life, she should be more concerned about how to raise her ever increasing family and not involved in politics that are way over her head."
You realize you just tossed everything the women's liberation movement fought for over the past 50 years right into the dumpster? I just she should just stay home and be barefoot & pregnant, huh?
Hitler was a pretty classy guy, too, huh? Sophisticated and well-spoken.
You want someone who doesn't embarass you, but you don't mind what kind of ill they inflict on the country.
As Forrest Gump would say: Stupid is as stupid does.
I'm somewhat surprised that there has been little commentary about the executive heavy weights at CBS, Sumner Redstone and Leslie Moonves. When the Imus brouhaha came up, Redstone, Board Chair of CBS said he hoped Moonves (President of CBS), would "do the right thing." Immediately thereafter, macho Moonves fired Imus, apparently getting the message and "doing the right thing." What is the "right thing" when the target is a conservative woman who opposes abortion? Apparently firing Letterman is NOT the "right thing." The evident "right thing to do" is to continue attacking the ONLY potential Republican Presidential candidate who could legimately offer a clear cut abortion alternative to the infanticide supporting Obama. Given a forum to clearly debate and choose between a champion of LIFE and a champion of DEATH, the left is scared out of their wits about the potential CHOICE between Palin and Obama. Don't look for the attack dogs to let up on this one. The pro-death lefties are terrified of a potential contest between the heroic Palin and the insidious Obama.
Hopefully this link has been posted before, but before people get too bent out of shape about Letterman's tasteless joke, you should read this article:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/shannyn-moore/top-1...
It outlines several much more severe jokes made on Palin and other's expense, without the moral outrage that for some reason has been ignited out of Letterman's comment. Since she didn't speak out any of the previous times outlined in the article about, I can't help but feel that Palin has chosen this moment to voice her anger (which may or may not be feigned) simply for reasons of publicity.
I'm so glad that Dave Letterman is getting his comeuppance for his stupid and mean-spirited slam against the Palin family. He and his ilk are trash not worth saving.
The mental gymnastics of your moral relativism, and the fact that your conclusion comes from your "feelings" rather than your mind, simply underscores the moral bankruptcy of you and your ilk. Twisted, torturous, hypothetical induction is the stuff of 3rd grade "how do you feel about it, Stanley" therapy discussion. Waste your breath elsewhere. It's foolishness stands without need for comment.
indeed, that which does not kill us, makes us stronger…
I read "One Door …" in Iraq and it was my first introduction to the horrific worldview of Peter Singer an his ilk. Dean is my favorite author, btw
"I can't help feel" is just an expression. I'll re-word it for you:
Since Palin did not speak out previously when much more tasteless jokes were made at her and her daughter's expense, the only logical conclusion is that she now speaks out because of publicity and not because she's genuinely offended by Letterman's comments.
There. Maybe now you can refute my argument without resorting to a discussion on semantics.
With the Hate ****(rape) Playboy article written about conservative women and the attacks on the Palins(which will continue);Conservatives can't take the high road anymore and let the Left define who we are.(Look at what happened to the Bush administration.)Enough's enough, we have to start fighting back.
One more thing, Imus met and sincerely apologized to the Rutgers Women's basketball team(which they accepted), and was still fired (by Les Moonves).
I'd rather CBS fire Letterman(which they won't) on principle than firing him due to low ratings and advertisers bailing out.
Looks like I touched some tender nerves, thanks for the ad hominem attacks, Mr. Rulle et al. I am always amused at the anti-intellectual streak on the extreme right. I would love to hear what "absurd" and treacherous things you believe Obama said in the Cairo speech. That Muslims have contributed to world culture? That America is not at war with Islam but with fundamentalist extremists? That we should get out of Afghanistan and Iraq as soon as possible, because everyone has the right to govern themselves and the U.S. is not interested in nation-building? That the Middle East must reevaluate the way it treats women? Or that Iran has a right to peaceful nuclear power but not nuclear weapons? Wow, really crazy statements. As a libertarian who believes in non-interventionist foreign policy, I agree with most of what Obama said. Though sometimes, late at night, I do miss Bush's cowboy lingo.
Oh, but who wants to hear from a stupid, incoherent losertarian tool poseur who has the mental capacity of Forrest Gump and who doesn't think Obama is the second coming of Hitler. Oh, and it was probably an accident I was born.
You're wrong, Stan. The reason for the outrage now is very simple. All those other "jokes" about Palin were made in the heat of the campaign. The campaign, in case you haven't heard, is now over. It's been over for more than seven months! Obama won. The Dems won. They won BIG. To keep on attacking Palin and her family six months into the Obama Administration… It's downright sick. It's like kicking a man when he's down—except it's not a man but a woman and her teenage daughters!
THAT, my friend, is why this is happening NOW.
"I can see Russia from my house."
Yeah. And now, thanks to Obama's economic policies, we can ALL see Russia from our house.
Its one thing for a woman to dream big and reach all the goals in life she wants. All for woman power but when you fail at everything you do including raising your own children, perhaps its time to slow down. She sucks at being a mother and she sucks at politics. I'm just saying newborn babies take a lot of work. And this one has down syndrome. She shouldnt make the baby suffer b/c of her own greed and stupidity.
When calling people idiots, it is generally a good idea not to misspell a word in the sentence where you do it. Otherwise people tend to think you are a drooling moron, like in your case ross.
You used "there" when you wanted to use "their" in your sentence.
An ignorant mistake, one generally made by those with about a 5th grade education.
You idiot.
A really great article.
Right, she sucks at politics- coming from nowhere to be a Mayor of a town, and now be a Governor of a state where she enjoys phenomenal approval ratings and just closed one of the most lucrative deals for her constituents in the history of our country.
Contrast that with jugears the dolt- he like, uh, negotiated some asbestos removal once, like. And he is really good at disappearing federal money- Hud money, annenberg challenge money, and now "stimulus" money.
Guess preznit spendy mcstalinacorn should stay home and take care of his kids, because he surely sucks at politics.
As for your doltish drivel about Palin's mothering skills- who the f#ck do you think you are? Outside of reading whatever MSM tripe you can get your greasy paws on then moronically spewing it on sites like this, what gives you the slightest right to comment on her family?
You are a girl, and a very very stupid one. Go play with your barbies, or eat some more paste you complete imbecile.
Does it really matter which daughter Letterman meant? Neither of them is running for office or in office, just Mom. The joke was in very poor taste and he came off sounding like a dirty old man. I heard some news commentator say she needs to stop flaunting her kids; well they were at a baseball game, that isn't flaunting. And, how many parents, moms especially, do include kids on work and volunteer activities and trips when possible and appropriate. Teenagers don't need babysitting 24/7 like younger children when mom is busy, are old enough to behave appropriately when included in things like dinners, and yet still enjoy "mom-time" like a baseball game and maybe some shopping and sight-seeing. Sounds like Palin is being attacked for doing what comes natural to many parents. Actually, more parents ought to seek ways to include their kids like that.
Incidently, in many middle schools and high schools, this would go on Letterman's permanent record as sexual harassment. Far too many people today try to pass off perversion and abuse as jokes. This is a matter of decency, not right or left.
"He has class and education, and is well-spoken."
Ah, you must be one of them libertarians interested in legalizing dope. Obama is well spoken? Right… Quatro de Cinco, 57 states, breathalyzer…uh no.. inhalator, capital of Canada is Iowa, Austrian is a language, and on and on and on. You take the electronic binkie away from that tennis head wagging, jugeared dope and he turns into a stuttering twirp.
As for his so-called education- where'
s the proof? Where's the transcripts? The writing examples of his vaunted career as head of law review? Where's the test scores?
That's right- they're as vaporous and insubstantial as this moronic tyro's resume.
Class- ah yes, from the "clever" flipping off of Hillary while he scratched his face to saying "Wasilly" to "lipstick on a pig" to the complete gutter trash anticry with the British, including giving dvds to a blind guy…yeah, that's classy and sophisticated.
And regarding this "dumbass notion" that Mr. Rulle has about Palin being in charge of a National Guard. Uh, what exactly was obumbo in charge of outside of vote fraudsters working for Acorn? That's right, nothin'. Unless you buy into his moronic assertion that "running a campaign counts for executive experience".
Axelrod is scraping the bottom of the barrels with his astroturfers lately. You are really pretty crappy at this "truthlessness".
As ever- Ohblahblah is a fake phony clown, the biggest clown in clown town. By end of year, this dope will be in full retreat.
Lies. If she meant nothing, the Left wouldn't keep attacking her like this. They're not so stupid as to waste time on those of their opponents who pose no threat. Right now, she's probably the *biggest* threat to the Left's twisted philosophy. I'd ask you to recheck her credentials, too, but that would be a waste of *my* time.
So the jokes were acceptable during some circumstances but not others. That's pretty much the definition of moral relativism. Which means the very position Rulle rails against in his opinion piece is exhibited by himself, Palin and multiple other supporters. How ironic.
Imus was fired even after he gave a very sincere apology, which was accepted by the women's basketball team.
This isn't about Palin. It's about society saying we're tired of this kind of talk being rationalized as "jokes".
Letterman should still be fired.
But if comics can no longer joke about white women, who can they joke about? Those white women is crazy funny. /sarcasm
Palin is an idiot, through and through. She doesn't have the education, the experience, or the ability of basic analytic reasoning. She is an ideologue of the worst kind. Give her a script and she can perform. Ask her a question, even the simplest questions, "What newspapers do you read?" or "Can you name a Supreme Court decision other than Roe V. Wade you don't agree with?". How anyone can listen to her responses can believe she has anything other than a vacuum between her ears is beyond me.
Letterman is a comic. He made a joke. Sometimes jokes are offensive to some people. You want to "punish" Letterman, don't watch his show. If enough people agree with your position then his ratings will drop and his show will go off the air. That is how the free market works. That's what free speech is.
Conservatives like to wave the banners of Freedom, Liberty and Free Speech until it comes to the freedom, liberty and free speech from those that they don't like.
As an Alaskan I'm embarrassed by her as my Governor.
Do people actually think Sarah Palin scares the left-wing? How delusional do you have to be to think that?
Amen to that idea! It would be a great social experiment and would finally prove which is the better lifestyle – believing in and honoring God and His precepts or believing in "the way that seems right to a man" (but the end thereof is death).
