Marlon’s Mao: Part One
by Michael MoriartyOur President’s favorite movie is The Godfather.
“You disrespected me …” says Don Corleone to a favor-seeker.
That’s one of President Obama’s favorite phrases from Marlon Brando’s Godfather.

The, by now very boring, Judeo-Christian civilization has raised us to “disrespect” criminals, bullies who rule the world by force and force alone and cold-blooded killers such as the Islamic Jihad.
Somehow our President is willing to give a pass to Don Corleone because … well … “The Don” is performed by the same actor who portrayed John McCain’s favorite movie hero, Emiliano Zapata.
Hmmm … no wonder so many conservatives don’t entirely trust John McCain.
The hidden part of Senator McCain is Progressive, a movement that grows increasingly revolutionary.
However, that was all part of a good revolution, the Mexican one, right? It had a whole cast of “good guys” like Pancho Villa, correct?
So if McCain can admire Pancho Villa and Zapata, what’s wrong with the Czars of the Obama administration admiring Che Guevera and Mao Zedong?
Both McCain and Obama obviously admire Marlon Brando. He’s The Star of their favorite movies.
Besides, candidate Obama promised to “fundamentally transform the United States of America”.
That’s revolutionary, isn’t it?
Hollywood pictures and two-party politicians are a revealing combination, aren’t they?
Therefore we have Worldwide Progressive Production Company’s film version of a story entitled Destiny of Mankind, and they’re shooting it out of a movie studio called United Nations.
A bit like United Artists … but … well, United Nations creates only documentary films and the UN scriptwriters have never been busier nor more successful!
With Obama in the White House “stepping on the gas” so to speak, the United Nations domination of the United States, if you’ll forgive the allusion, looks like a “downtown” from Obama’s favorite “corner” of not a basketball court but of his “Todlin’ Town”.
In other words, The Chicago Way!

Now America comes to what amounts to President Obama’s version of a Brando/Pacino-like, Chicago Don and elects him to help America out of trouble.
It is not entirely a coincidence that the German Communist playwright, Bertolt Brecht, set two of his major plays, In The Jungle of Cities and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, in Chicago.
That American city’s legendary reputation as a gangster’s heaven obviously struck Brecht as the best metaphor for his own Europe, struggling between not “two men”, as the subtitle of Jungle describes it, but between the increasingly influential lies and blackmail of both Nazism and Brecht’s beloved Communism.
In The Jungle of Cities is a love story presented in the metaphors of boxing.
The love-hate between dueling ambitions.
In light of that, America’s and Chicago’s First Lady Michelle Obama seemed to be saying, in “love-hate”, that after having endured such “disrespect” from the United States, she and possibly her husband didn’t have to respect America until, of course, her husband was then chosen as America’s own Godfather.
Even then respect isn’t necessary for a Constitution they both have felt is so limited and limiting when put in relation to their bottomless, Brechtian ambitions.
It is payback time!
No, the payback isn’t racist.
It is Marxist!!
A kind of Rainbow Revenge.
As someone might have advised the Obamas, “Vengeance is best served up cold … with a smile”.
Such strategies are taught at the President’s alma mater of Harvard by the Progressive likes of Professor Henry Kissinger – the tireless salesman of a New World Order – seconded by Rhodes Scholars such as William Clinton and, of course, heavily funded by Obama’s own personal Godfather, George Soros.
Paul Volcker has written of George Soros:
“George Soros has made his mark as an enormously successful speculator, wise enough to largely withdraw when still way ahead of the game. The bulk of his enormous winnings is now devoted to encouraging transitional and emerging nations to become ‘open societies,’ open not only in the sense of freedom of commerce but—more important—tolerant of new ideas and different modes of thinking and behavior.”
So far, at least from my own “different mode of thinking”, the most belligerent of these “emerging nations” Soros is lecturing to, with the invaluable help of his ideological Godson, President Barack Obama, is America.
The Obama Nation is helping America to emerge as just another corner of the Marxist New World Order.
Ironically Marlon Brando, although surrounded in his life by Marxists and, as a favorite actor of both Obama and McCain, a legendary, bipartisan favorite, was mainly concerned about only helping America’s First Nations become the priority among “emerging nations”.
However, Jihadist Islam, at least for myself at any rate, has obviously become the angriest and most impatient corner of an emerging, would-be nation.
Muslim Jihadists’ dedication to the virtual destruction and permanent end of Israel is where Mr. Brando would have to part company with the Progressives and their non-combative policy toward Ahmadinejad’s Iran
Despite the seemingly anti-Semitic remarks offered by Marlon Brando, the actor had unswervingly supported Israel’s sovereignty.

One thing Obama and McCain must agree upon is the main common denominator of the films Godfather and Viva Zapata, and that is Marlon Brando.
However, without Elia Kazan as his own, artistic Godfather, Marlon Brando would have been without Viva Zapata and On The Waterfront.
The “Mob” that Kazan demonized in On The Waterfront is made up of the very Union Bosses that traipse in and out of Godfather Obama’s White House regularly.
If you want to get a profoundly good look at President Obama’s brand of Union leader, see On The Waterfront again. Concentrate on the brilliant performances by Lee J. Cobb and Rod Steiger.
Johnny Friendly, and that mob boss’ lawyer, Charley Malloy, and the thugs surrounding them are the real stuff of Godfather Obama’s SEIU friends, ACORN, his Czardom and the true architects of his “fundamental transformation of the United States of America”.
They are Johnny and Charley with Ivy League degrees.
That description, indeed, is Al Pacino’s version of a Godfather, Michael Corleone, a graduate of Dartmouth.
As a graduate of Dartmouth myself, I learned that in Soviet Russia the Politburo is actually a modern version of an old-fashioned oligarchy.
Since then, and because of performing repeatedly in the creations of Bertolt Brecht, I’ve discovered that a Politburo is the traditionally Soviet word for a Communist Cosa Nostra.
However, the American Politburo, that ruling elite which is now led by Godfather Obama, instead of admiring Stalin, as you would expect?
They all look up to Mao Zedong.
Mao has ultimately become the greatest inspiration for the American Progressive Movement.
Mao is The Godfather of all Godfathers!
Surely Hollywood and its tortured geniuses would have eventually cast Marlon Brando as Mao, don’t you think?
After performing Emiliano Zapata, Napoleon Bonaparte and Don Corleone, the only challenge remaining for Marlon Brando, the ultimate fulfillment of his symbolic ascendancy as the Left’s Greatest Screen Star would have been to portray the indisputable and now increasingly popular Communist Emperor, Mao Zedong.
Please think about that till I get back to you with Part Two of Marlon’s Mao.

Wow! Mao!
This is a true look into the soul of not only Obamao, but the monstrous Marxists that he has surrounded himself with!
Heaven help us. We're going to need it!
Once again, you have come up with a phrase that I would like to see become common parlance: Rainbow Revenge.
I am going to begin keeping all the phrases that I learned here in Big Media. A couple years from now, I will post them at once.
A very thought provoking article.
The Sicilian mafia which dominates the American organize crime is base on the old Sicilian Padrone system of protection. The mob is about paying for protection this is what the American Public, the FBI, Hollywood doesn't understand. The Sicilian Padrone's ran the area for the land owners and the people would pay the local 'Don Pepino" which is a term of affection and respect to the local mob boss. They would protect the people against the Italian authorities or any invading occupation country that got a foothold in Sicily. Now, we come to the United States, most of the mob bosses of the 20s were born in Sicily but grew up on the streets of New York. They had old world traditions with American capitalism and know how. It was set up like a corporation with a board of directors called the "commission" . It all worked until Joe Valacchi told the world how it all runs and now the Italian/Sicilian mafia is just about gone, except in the minds of Hollywood writers who have never met a real mobster.
The Godfather is a romanticized version of a family of killers, who make their living in extortion, prostitution, bootlegging and after prohibition came the drugs. Then it all blew up in their faces, the 60s drug culture killed these "men of honor' as they called themselves. They were nothing but a bunch of low lives that abused the freedoms of the American Constitution and the liberty that Our Founders gave all of us.
People think they are cool or as in Goodfellas "we were movie stars with muscle" a movie about assholes who become bigger assholes and deserved what happened to them. In then end they are nothing but rich punks who are evil. In the Bronx Tale the young kid's Dad played by DeNiro say it all when he describes these Sicilian dirt bags, 'they don't have the balls to work 9 to 5 everyday and live like a man" As a kid in Everett I knew these guys, bookies, collectors, I would called the 'Eddie Coyle's . These guys are all gone now, as a kid they were always nice, very conservative, even my ex brother-in–law who is gone now was in the game. I never saw them as heros or cool. As I grew up and fell in love with the constitution and took criminal justice I grew to hate what they stood for.
So now we have a President who comes out of Chicago a mob run city no different than New York or Boston. The problem is that Obama believes that the GODFATHER Is how the mob really is in real life. That ballerina who works for him, sent a dead fish to a lobbyist thinking he was Luca Brasi. This is all movie nonsense and movies are all make-believe. This idiot we have in the White House is an old fashion low level extortionist working for the big legal crime family called the Democratic party. None of this is about socialism its about paying protection with our tax money so Obama can buy off the people who brought in the votes, they in-turn live free in a 'free country'. This is about 'protecting' the vote so the Dems remain in power forever. This is what Al Capone did and all the heads of the five familes.
We just had an idiot who thinks that Don Vito is a real person. The only two mob bosses died old men in their bed, Carlos Gambino and Joe Bannano the rest were in jail or under indictment and died of old age , cancer or were shot. It isn't quiet the movie star life. Obama is done, he knows he is through in Nov 2010. Why else would he say he rather be a good one term President the a two term lousy one. I feel he will be a lame duck President and like Joe Bannano was asked to retire our little play actor mobster in the White House will resign his office because of all the laws he has broken and his massive ego can't handle being told what to do by a majority republican ruled congress. They will start jumping ship like they did when Clinton lost the congress. They all left and took their pensions which all of them should be revoked.
The only real gangsters in the world were Mao, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot these people were mass killers, they weren't small ham and eggers, when they killed it was in the tens of millions. Some how the left admire these people.
You touch in one of the factors that is among the most common of strategies of the left's propaganda thrusts that so far I have heard no one address. You write, "'You disrespected me …' says Don Corleone to a favor-seeker."
I can see three reasons for a statement like this:
1) The first is to shut up contrary voices by telling them that their insensitivity precludes them from speaking the truth. This is basically a method of squelching the First Amendment. The instances of this strategy in our media are daily.
2) The second is to get us used to accepting that an elite group proscribes the words we can and can't use. Retard and midget are two current examples of normal English nouns. As we more and more allow others to tell our civilization that the basic language has to conform to their dictates, this fascism proceeds to what can't thought and what can't be acted upon.
2 of 2
3) Underlying all this is the switch in positions of the victimized and the victimizer. The current oligarchy wanna-be's constantly position themselves as the victim of insults and disrespect when just the opposite is true. They also reinforce this basic lie on a daily basis.
These are common methods of thugs, that is, to attempt to guilt-trip their victims into accepting slavery.
"….now the Italian/Sicilian mafia is just about gone…."
Would that your statement were true.
For those of you who had the luxury of learning true and factual US History, you learned that our Founders were, in truth, authentic "Progressives" and the formation of this country and our Constitution was and still is the answer to old Europe's tyrannical, imperiously marxist, socialist and communist thought.
But leave it to this sorry, leftist administration, with an incompetent at the helm, to propose taking us backward (and downward) under the guise of 'progression.'
Perhaps Obama admires the Godfather because he can identify with puppets and their masters, since he himself is but a puppet for the darker forces in this country who manipulate his every word and deed.
Although not as prolific a killer as Maor, Hitler, et. al., Fidel Castro and his cadre of gangsters STILL run a 10 Million person prison/protection racket called Cuba.
North Korea is an even larger gangster operation that is now armed with nukes and a massive standing army.
Mao may be gone but his legacy poisons this world even today.
Just because you enjoy a particular film or performance does not mean that you find moral justification with the film’s premise or the character’s motivations. So I don’t understand how Obama is giving a “pass” to Don Corleone. And even if he was giving a pass (what does that even mean?!) to Corleone, I’m not sure how he could do so to a fictional character. (As an aside, I would argue that the Godfather films, even the middling final installment, are not at all romanticized depictions of the mafia; the foundation upon which Corleone builds his family and subsequent empire also set into motion the deaths of two of his sons and one grand-daughter, the moral death of his third son and the near-complete destruction of his family. Yeah, sounds romantic. Where do I sign up?) The same goes for McCain. Just because he enjoyed a film about Zapata, doesn’t mean his morals, values or political outlook match those of the actual individual. In short, it’s just a movie, man.
I would comment on the rest of the column, but I could make no sense of it. (And, Nolte, what the hell are they paying you for? Think about hiring a copyeditor, man!)
Besides having a lack of understanding of symbolism and irony, you also need to hire a proof reader.
I was waiting for such a letter, Mr. Matt.
For months Big Hollywood has repeatedly reminded you, as a possibly regular reader, of the profoundly Leftist, yes, Marxist connections between the Soviet Union's propaganda arm and its successful invasion of American entertainment.
Obviously, you've picked up the conversation at this point without having considered or exposed yourself to the counter-revolution going on here … or, you've made the foolish choice of just dismissing the heart of Big Hollywood's message … which is interesting … so, are there OTHER reasons for your contribution today?
Finally, am I to overlook the obvious just because "Matt" tells us it's "only a movie"?
GB,
Michael
Please enlighten us on the proper understanding of symbolism and irony.
Irony means ironing clothes to get the wrinkles out, right?
I think we can all agree that the one thing Brando wasn't was a thinker. And neither am I since for the life of me I can't figure out what this article is about.
Mago, what I meant by that was that the Mafia will never attain the heights of power and influence they had in the late 1950s. It is still around but not like it was their high water mark will get to where it was in our lifetime. The grandkids of these old Dons don't care about the old traditions and now they are having kids and who wants that life for their child.
Thanks for the response. I am still unsure what "obvious" point you are highlighting. Two presidential candidates were asked a fluffy question about their favorite films. They both happened to pick films starring the same actor. While their choices DO say something about their taste in cinema, it seems to bear little relation to what they value in terms of governance. For example. I enjoy the films of Bing Crosby and Sean Connery. I also know that both men had a history of physical violence toward women. Using your argument, I must, therefore, condone wife-beating.
Look, I understand Big Hollywood's message. I enjoy some of the columnists here, even if I don't often agree with them. That said, I also think it is much much easier to prattle a litany of complaints about artistic endeavors than to actually put in the enormously difficult effort to create something worthwhile for an audience. cont'd….
First off, thank you for this article, Michael. I look forward to part two. Brando as Mao? Yes, I can visualize that. Thank you Jack Marino for this outstanding narrative. You said something I have for several months mused but was afraid to say- that Obama would rather resign than pursue a three year lame duck presidency. Thank you.
Did the Tiny Dancer really send a dead fish to a lobbyist?
Possibly, Zapata was only a movie, but I knew at least one New York Peurto Rican who saw it as a way of supporting Castro's revolutionaly takeover of Cuba.
It seems to me that by the third Godfather installment Coppola had grown up and possibly wanted to redeem himself by attempting to show that the mob life was the same as killing your own family. Michael's daughter begin murdered in front of him at the end of G3 is maybe as powerful as the ending of the original, but of all three installmentss, the first is still most vivid in our memories.
Then please go to the Daily Kos! Your mind can function with it's attributes to the socialist agenda!
Yes and if I was that guy I would have cooked the fish and sent it back to him and tell him to eat it. These people are clowns
It is copy space editor, man! If you cannot right click for the correct spelling how and the he!! are you going to even understand the meaning of this article! Just like Mr. Moriarty said, GB
lol! I like your style Jack
Interesting, how I remember reading David Freddoso's, "The Case Against Barack Obama" in the summer of 2008 and remarking to my wife how it felt like I was reading, "The Godfather".
http://www.regnery.com/books/obama.html
On another note, your article stirred up a fine memory of seeing Pacino perform "Arturo Ui" 1975, I believe, back in Boston. David Wheeler directed an amazing cast including, among others, John Cazale, Sully Boyar and Jamie Sanchez.
Kick ass show.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,585412,00.htm...
Evidently this nonsense is not limted to Chicago. Atlanta has its own brand of Clowns…..
Quick history lesson: Marxism didn't existed during Colonial America. Both our and the French's revolutions were reactions to aristocratic, monarchical governments, so it should be obvious that the U.S. couldn't have been formed in reaction to either of those political philosophies. And who are the "darker forces" you refer to?
The actual line is "What have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully?"
The Don did not watch MTV.
Wow. Doesn't everyone love The Godfather? Seriously? Even if you don' believing that liking certain classic movies makes you moral or immoral or that this reveals your innermost political ideology is absurd.
Why is Big Hollywood writing stupid, find-a-controversy-everywhere stories like this, instead of being a positive force for change in the national media and movie business like it's supposed to be?
Correction: "Even if you don't [share that love], believing that liking certain classic movies makes you moral or immoral or that this reveals your innermost political ideology is absurd."
I'm amazed at your tolerance to suffer fools, like Matt. Keep up the good work.
That would explain his love of 'The Chicago way'. He must fancy himself as some kind of a Don.
NCC,
Good job — I was going to say the same.
You are a man of respect.
Wait…what?? Liking "The Godfather" makes you a commie? So liking "The Adventures of Robin Hood" makes me a royalist?
I have to agree with Matt. While I wouldn't call this article (or any of Mr. Moriarty's previous articles) "weak tea," he does raise a valid question. Enjoying a movie doesn't automatically equate to: a.) approving of the characters' actions or lifestyles, or b.) modeling your own politics on the characters in the film.
I think it's simply a coincidence that McCain and Obama both chose films that starred Brando but to assume that Brando is somehow the left's favorite star or that he would've played Mao is, shall we say, somewhat disingenuous.
Of course, it could all be hyperbole that went over my (apolitical) head.
Other than that, keep up the good work, sir!
Michael, this isn't to disrespect you [
] and even though I disagree with Matt, he is correct in that your writing this time isn't an easy read. The basic thrust that B. Hussein O. Jr. is turning our federal government into a thugocracy is accurate and in my opinion possibly among the most overlooked consequences of allowing commies control of the national government.
Your exposition this time veers into a lot of directions in ways that make it difficult to weight the importance of each statement and to easily see how it fits into your overall argument.
I still am not absolutely sure that this sentence means: "However, the American Politburo, that ruling elite which is now led by Godfather Obama, instead of admiring Stalin, as you would expect?"
I get away with all of the above when I reply to Big Media writers, but I am not Michael Moriarty. I'm just a guy who shoots off rough drafts of rough drafts and moves on to the next writer.
Finally, something on which I agree with the President! If only O had gone into film criticism. That seems to be where his true talents lie.
Thank you for the correction. If you check the link to the McCain/Obama/Couric article, you'll see that the President made the same mistake.
God Bless,
Michael
copy-editor, copyeditor, and copy editor are all accepted spellings.
Also, you are all insane. Obama's a Mafia don because he likes the Godfather movies? Really? So, I must be a Jedi, then, right? Yeesh.
A gangster-related note —
My advice to everyone: Turn off your computers and watch my man Tommy Udo (Richard Widmark) do his thing in "Kiss of Death" on TCM — 8:00 pm ET.
What?! Did you see Godfather II? Michael destroys his family in THAT film! He murders his brother. He drives his wife to abortion, then exiles her. In the end, he is all alone, and everything his father had built was really just a house of cards, ready to topple under the weight of its own immorality. To say that with Coppola "grew up" in Godfather III suggests that you didn't pay attention to the first two, and superior, installments.
Mr. Moriarty-
With all due respect, are we now talking about the Tea Party movement? Because I thought I was responding to your idea that Obama and McCain's governance philosophy is styled, respectively, after each of their favorite Brando movies. Not sure how the Tea Party fits into that.
But you did mention in your last response the notion of a counter-revolution. I would suggest that Big Hollywood's predecessors, Dirty Harry's Place and Libertas, at least made a heart felt attempt to create friendly forum where conservative film-makers could discuss ideas, techniques, job opportunities, etc. Big Hollywood, I would say, is largely a place to complain about George Clooney, Sean Penn and Danny Glover.
Might I suggest that a litany of complaints and pseudo-controversies does not an effective counter-revolution make.
That said, I do admire you greatly as an actor. With Respect–Matt
Thank you for the objection to a sentence I thought to be clearly an elliptical question which is answered in the next sentence.
I will avoid such adventures in the future.
I consider your taste almost impeccable.
GB,
Michael
I always thought that Bill Clinton was the nice Godfather.
Supplicant: Governor (President) Clinton I need a job…
The Don: :You come to me looking for a job and you don't even show respect (or your thong underwear).
Supplicant: I'm sorry Don, I'll do whatever you need but my family…
The Don: (cutting the supplicant off) Okay already, I'll get you a job, a good job in he government.
Supplicant: Thank you Don Clinton (sobs).
The Don: If I give you this job in the Justice department where you will make almost 100 grand a year and cannot be fired then you owe me a favor.
Supplicant: Anything Don Clinton.
Don Clinton: It may be tomorrow, it may be next week, it may be years from now but I will ask you for that favor and you cannot refuse me (or my wife).
Supplicant: Whatever you need.
Don Clinton: we may need to give us some files, we may need you to plant some information, we may need you to give us someone else that needs our help…
That's why he lasted two terms!
GB,
Michael
Insert generic Oboommah bash here :
Politics aside, if Sonny had EZ Pass, it would have been a completely different movie.
I like all kinds of movies and I dont think "you are what you watch" applies to film classics either
Look at the crap they are feeding our kids in schools that are run by the UN: http://www.ibo.org/ibworld/jan2010/index.cfm
They have completely ignored that the gig is up because we are onto the fact this crisis was created by Maurice Strong and the Rockefellers to control us.
"The IB has all the infrastructure to teach not just government, but international government; not just law, but international law."
"The question is whether we can formulate public international policy which really has teeth,” she says. “The UN attempted this, but the thing of real interest is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This presupposes that there is a common morality that is superior to the different concepts of morality that different cultures have."
I'll take my US Bill of Rights thank you very much.
"It would seem that men and women need a common motivation, namely a common adversary, to organize and act together… The need for enemies seems to be a common historical factor… Bring the divided nation together to face an outside enemy, either a real one or else one INVENTED for the purpose… Democracy will be made to seem responsible for the lagging economy, the scarcity and uncertainties. The very concept of democracy could then be brought into question and allow for the seizure of power…
In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill…. The real enemy then is humanity itself."
– The First Global Revolution The Vacuum (1991) published by the Club of Rome.
So, if your thesis is correct:
"The problem is that Obama believes that the GODFATHER Is how the mob really is in real life."
Then we now have a young half breed, with his finger on the nuclear button, who does not know fantasy from reality; fact from fiction, Hollywood from real life.
Thats a comforting thought.
cont'd
I think perhaps you may be reading much too deeply into Obama and McCain's affection for these particular films. Other than saying that Obama is from Chicago and that McCain is a hidden progressive (and throwing in a bunch of conservative outrage words, i.e., "unions," "jihad," "Chicago Way") you fail to make an substaintive case that their respective film choices have deeply informed their style of governance. It's damnation by association, and fairly weak tea when you take the time to think about your column.
“Weak tea”?
Well, many are still trying to reduce the Tea Party Movement to “weak tea” and the brew that the Tea Party Convention has been serving up this past week, with both Sarah Palin and Andrew Breitbart holding forth, gets stronger and stronger.
As for MY weak tea, it was strong enough to have you holding forth with numerous ripostes.
Some weak tea.
GB,
M
It is the science of ironing.
1984 all over again.
You ask, "Did you see Godfather II?" Is the Ayatollah Muslim? Does a camel take a sh*t in the dessert? I didn't say that Coppola grew up "in" Godfather III. I said that he had grown up "by" G III.
In II, Michael doesn't really seem to care about his marriage. In fact that is part of what was powerful about the ending of I, as he closes the door on his wife after lying to her. Also in II, he is the one who orders his brother's murder. How much could have really cared? He didn't have a gangster above him forcing him to do it.
By III, he is genuinely, emotionally attached to his daughter. Her murder in front of him does more to make us, the audience, get the point: (American interpretation, not operatic) you mess with the bull, you get the horns.
Then again, whose story is this? Puzo’s or Coppola’s?
The UN is turning out to be something like Luciano's crime commision, especially since most of the rest of the world has little or no experience with democracy and is in many cases controlled by thugs.
How can anyone even begin to believe in giving so many dictators equal say about anything important regarding global issues.
Maurice Strong is a difficult guy to find info about. Do you have sources?
Well, camels probably shit in the desert; never saw one take a shit in dessert. But…
It subject to interpretation whether Michael truly loved Kay, but he closed the door on her in Part I not out of a lack of love, but because that is how the mob is run: wives play no significant role in the business side of the family. He did really seem to love Fredo… And there are a number of reasons Michael decided to have him killed, not the least of which was Fredo's involvement in the botched attempt on Michael's life.
The underlying notion of the first two films is that Michael becomes a ruthless killer to protect his family, but that ruthlessness is also what destroys the family.
Gee is this a popular site for RW nutjobs or what?
Your points are part of the plots, but certainly they can easily be read as rationalizationed motives for Michael’s behavior. They carry very much less emotional weight in terms of meaning, especially in G I.
Both GI and GII also spew a lot of reinforcements justifying the Mafia in general and Michael's acceptance of that gang. In both instances they undercut your argument.
No one says, hey look at the way Michael defended his family. They remember swim with the fishes, horses head, made him an offer he can' refuse. Even when the door shuts at the end of GI, it’s more like a period to the power of the extermination of his enemies during the baptism of his son. Few walk away from that thinking that Michael is fighting to defend that baby, but rather that he is to be feared.
With the possible exception of the shooting of his father in GI, the films don't show that he clearly cares about anybody but himself.
Or at the very least, an editor.
I find Mr. Moriarty's columns to be disjointed, rambling and at times, incoherent.
He might be a great actor, but he's not that great of a columnist.
Watching the Adventures of Robin Hood makes you an Errol Flynn fan.. for life
