Hello Big Hollywood
by Michael MoriartyTo begin with, writing this first editorial for Big Hollywood feels as threatening as the moment I entered California to do my first big film-role in Glory Boy, originally and more comprehensively titled, My Old Man’s Place.
“Do I really want that face I see in the rushes … the one that looks an awful lot like me … do I want it running around the movie houses of the world?”
By then, of course, it was too late. I’d already signed a contract.

Director Elia Kazan accepts an honorary Oscar (1999)
I’ve already said yes to Andrew Breitbart … and though I’ve been writing editorials on enterstageright.com for more than a few years … this actual return to Hollywood … uh … Big Hollywood, no less … is as disturbing as those memories of My Old Man’s Place.
What does Big Hollywood mean?
Is it a tribute or in-house sarcasm?
So far I only know Big Hollywood’s politics as counter-revolutionary conservative – and if I’m wrong, Andrew and John, please correct me … and that’s why I’m here … as a pro-life libertarian … a category I’ve been in long before I even heard of the name Glenn Beck.
I’m here to try stemming the Revolutionary Tide that has been rising in larger and larger waves from the shores of 18th Century France when the guillotine gave its deadly review to the court of Louis XVI; and subsequently the communes of Paris eventually threaded their legendary grand guignol through the minds of Karl Marx, Vladimir Ilytch Lenin, Joseph Stalin and Mao Tse Tung.
So here I am … in Big Hollywood … clutching my memories of the American Declaration of Independence and its words: “All men are created equal.”
No, my dear Progressives, Americans were not intended to be gestated as possible candidates for abortion … despite what Chris Matthews of MSNBC infers.
Recently, in the best French Revolutionary tradition, that enlightened despot rode roughshod over a rather royal member of the Catholic Church who was defending Rome’s decision to excommunicate a Kennedy for supporting abortion.
Hmmm … Mr. Matthews kept hammering the poor Roman Prince over what the penalties would be for abortion … should Roe v Wade be overturned … with the inferential reminders of Catholic Inquisitional sadism … and the “Robe” took the bait and folded.
I conclude that the penalties for abortion should be “probational,” periods of close observation on all three corners involved: the mother, the father and the doctor/abortionist. If abortions become chronic with these citizens under close observation … perhaps jail time would be the only effective deterrent.
If such clear messages regarding the blazing immorality of legalized murder are not imposed, then the worldwide, pro-abortion policies will descend into stricter and stricter “population-control policies” such as those in tyrannically Red China.

In the 1940’s, the possible jail penalties certainly didn’t keep my parents, a surgeon and his alcoholic wife, from having two illegal abortions, cardinal illegalities.
I was informed of those facts at the rather dumbfounded age of 10.
“My parents had two of my siblings murdered?!”
No one was arrested … because no one knew … except for my equally stunned sister and myself.
Divorces are a war zone, of course … but divorce after two abortions … for the surviving children … is a Holocaust zone.
With an actual lifetime of survivor’s guilt … ranking second only to the Irish predisposition for alcoholism … I’m surprised I’ve done as well as I have … thanks to Alcoholics Anonymous … and the words, “Let go, let God!”
Now here I am back in not just Hollywood but Big Hollywood!
What a journey!
My old dust-up with Attorney General Janet Reno and all my libertarian declarations for enterstageright.com seem to have been mere warm-ups for the Breitbart Taking Back of Hollywood.
I had a small taste of the “Grand Old Hollywood” when I worked with Arthur Kennedy in Glory Boy. By then, I must say, Mr. Kennedy had the despairing look of a man who knew the old Hollywood days, with sidekicks such as Jimmy Stewart, were over.
In Glory Boy (where did they ever come up with that title) we were doing an anti-war and, by comparison to Oliver Stone’s undeniably anti-American Platoon, a mildly anti-American film about Vietnam War veterans … perhaps the first of its kind.
Hmmm … I had one of the worst times of my life on that film … and vowed never to work in Hollywood again.
Yeah, right.
If my stay with Big Hollywood is half as long as my wonderfully enjoyable forays into conservative thought with enterstageright.com, we might have a decent President of the United States by then.
From the Bush years … of both father and son … bookending the Clinton years … capped by the virtual Obama Nation … the Progressive White House has been putting its bipartisan and Progressive “Changes” on display. They certainly headlined their bright idea of opening up the housing industry with looser and looser loan requirements. Now they are loading the North and South lawns of the White House with massively un-payable debt … and then trying to downplay predictable disasters like that of terrorism at Fort Hood. They sell it as simultaneous serial killings by a deranged loose cannon … who just happened to be a “soldier of Allah.”
Hmmm, indeed … about as convincing as the recent cover-ups for Climategate.
What are my plans with the coming articles?
To track my personal experience with the former Soviet Russia’s undeniable strategy, its unrelenting efforts to Communize all of theater and film in the United States. Let me –most briefly and in light of further, more detailed editorials – state my case.
According to the personal techniques outlined in the book Shostakovich and Stalin by Solomon Volkov, Joseph Stalin’s personal credo might have read something like this: “If a ruler could control and dominate the artists of his nation, then he could control and dominate all of that nation’s citizens, every one of them!”
Hmmm …
One of these Stalinist techniques ironically was mentioned by a White House Czar, that technique of “nudging” America into what is advertised as “Change” but will inevitably flower like poison ivy into a totalitarian state.

As an example, I have no doubt, unless New York’s Governor Paterson increases his recent show of independence from Washington, D.C., that New York will soon follow California into its present state of bankruptcy. President Obama obviously enjoys our growing dependence upon Red China. Let the United States’ growing dependence upon the federal government be increasingly complete with the bankruptcy of all the states; then the message of America’s shrinking importance within the New World Order will be written in universally painful granite.
My coming editorials will sit in the very agony displayed at the Academy Awards when Elia Kazan was handed a well deserved “Gold” for his lifetime achievement. Many in the audience were deliberately and rather boldly “sitting on their hands,” refusing to applaud the director of Streetcar Named Desire, On The Waterfront and East of Eden. That “agony” defines the very political divide that has now grown in Hollywood to oceanic proportions.
A majority of Hollywood is still sitting on its hands in raging resentment of those who refuse to toe the Leftist Line.
I will only depart from writing about Hollywood’s love affair with the Communist Revolution to pay tribute to the true heart of an American Hollywood … those artists deserving of our gratitude for not buckling under the fists and serpentine peer pressure of America’s enlightened despots.
As a precursor to the French Revolution, François-Marie Arouet, better known by the pen name Voltaire, dubbed the revolutionary know-it-alls “enlightened despots.”
When Hollywood’s artists will be revealed as still in touch with a passion we call love, but which self-proclaimed revolutionaries, such as Vanessa Redgrave, call “sentimental rubbish” (that’s what she had to say about a script based on Thomas Wolf’s novel Web and The Rock) … hmmm … then the Golden Age of Hollywood will return.
From Communism’s seduction of American intellectuals to the beginning of the “nudges” coming out of the Group Theater and its legendary tribute to union unrest … hmmm … in Waiting For Lefty, this most fashionable revolt in American theater urged all young people in the performing arts to go to Hollywood and do the same.
Therefore this literally Stalinist plan to conquer America by conquering its artists has been working.
So, to further inflame my critics, I will add Elia Kazan’s genius to the undeniable brilliance of the occasionally teary-eyed Glenn Beck and watch the asphalt boil on the bankrupt, palm bedecked avenues of the confused and over-extended revolutionaries in California.
To welcome new friends to both my work in Big Hollywood and enterstageright.com, I offer a most heartfelt tribute to the growing Breitbart enterprises and trust that our combined efforts will indeed help to pull us all up … and out of the post-Reagan quicksands we are now drowning in.
Finally, we are actually choking in the debt-ridden quagmires placed under us so that Lenin and Stalin … and Castro and Chavez… and Mao and Pol Pot … and Osama bin Laden can all see their evil vindicated by history and Hollywood … highlighted to eternity by the fall of the United States to world Communism … our nation’s suicidal, deaf and dumbly naïve surrender to the Red/Islamic game plan now being heralded in Hollywood, Chicago, New York and Washington D. C. … yet smugly bandied about in White House dinner parties as the “Progressive World Government.”

Welcome, MM!
Golly, Michael, it is great to see you aboard Breitbart. Most excellent first blog. There are millions of us, conservative thinking people, in America, yet we are being thrown overboard for the fast-paced and non-thinking liberals. For years, the quiet, non-verbal conservatives (and Christians) have voted, but not contributed to campaigns which could oust the left-wing nuts. They have sat and watched as our freedoms have been eroded one-by-one. Even Hollywood has had many closet conservatives afraid to step forward, but in recent weeks, a few are daring to "come out" and say: Hey, I'm a Conservative! I believe in working hard and allowing Americans the freedoms fought for over many years. Hang tough! We need you out here. KitKat
I for one am happy you are here. I was hoping you'd come
and in my opinion, You and Jerry Orbach made Law and Order. I'm sad to see where it has gone.
Welcome Michael Moriarty….you'll find an appreciative and loyal audience of fellow patriots awaiting you here at BH, where the spirit of John Ford permeates the air.
Welcome aboard and to the fight Brother Michael. I know our side will win.
Have no fear Sir! Come on in and pay no attention to the trolls, someone shall chase them back under their bridge.

Most excellent! I've posted this as "Required reading for ALL Los Angeles types!"
Welcome Sir Moriarty may the ground come up to meet you and angels on your shoulders whisper wise words in yor ears.
Welcome to BH! It's great to have you here! One of my favorite subjects is 1930-50's Hollywood so I'm keeping my fingers crossed to see some stories about that period.
Welcome aboard, Mr. Moriarty. I concur with your comments about the great Elia Kazan. As an avid movie buff at the time, I used to watch the Oscars every year, but I stopped watching when I saw the way the lefties treated Kazan and haven't watched them since. Probably 99 percent of those who sat on their hands were not affected in any way by the blacklist, yet they felt they had the moral authority to condemn the man. It sickened me then and still sickens me when I think about it today.
It is always nice to hear those within the acting community who do not subscribe to the standard statist worldview. One of the things that has always bothered me is the total intolerance within the entertainment and news fields for people with a more conservative point of view. How nice to hear from Michael Moriarty.
Dear Mr. Moriarty,
Verrry nice start…and I got your back!
Because, "There's nothing like a nice piece of hickory!"

Welcome aboard, be back soon.
Wow!
Welcome to Big Hollywood!
It's always a pleasant surprise to see a favorite actor admit that he not only DIDN'T drink the Kool-Aid, but he's trying to spread the truth of its poison.
I can't wait to read more of your articles.

Welcome to BH. Feel free to bring your friends.
Howdy Michael,
Glad to have ya………….let the liberal ass whoop'in continue!
Good to see someone else pointing out Stalin's "control the artists and you control the masses" mantra.
Funny enough, I would argue that most of the politically-burdened junk Hollywood produces today is quite in line with the Soviet-realist tradition, if a bit more sophisticated in method.
It is a puzzle to me how I can read such serious words, and be grinning.
Welcome.
Welcome to BH, Michael. Glad to have you. I think you'll find the majority of the postings here reasonable and well thought out, the occasional troll excepted. I cannot imagine why anyone's parents who, choosing abortion, would then CHOOSE to tell their living children that they'd offed their brothers or sisters. But, as you said, it being illegal didn't stop them. The best answer for abortion is one I heard from a very erudite, highly educated, extremely religious Anglican Catholic: Abortion is a sin, not a crime. As an alcoholic, you understand the "let go and let God" philosophy. If arch conservatives would apply those two philosophies to Roe v. Wade, I honestly think fiscal conservatism could retake the country. The communists/leftists/socialists are a minority in America, however, because they're able to stampede "useful idiots" into voting for men like Barack Obama, they are more powerful than their numbers. Women who would never consider an abortion vote Democratic because they see Roe v Wade as an EMOTIONAL issue, not a physical (abortion) issue — Roe v Wade is tied up in their minds with women's rights and they think if Roe v Wade goes away, so will their rights. Same with Affirmative Action. African-Americans who don't need Affirmative Action to succeed march in lockstep to the Democrats' when the Social Democrats (and that should be their name for that's what they are) cry that the Republicans want to take them back to Jim Crowe days. Until the moderates and conservatives realize these two issues are radio active, rightly or wrongly, we'll have Dems in power. As for Ho'wood — they're useless. They've been Red since the thirties and I don't seem them changing. Read "Red Star Over Hollywood" for some information regarding their love affair with communism.
I'm sure there are many more "Friends of Abe" on the way.
Very nice Michael. Welcome to BH, the water’s fine! The left cannot withstand the scrutiny. The more people such as yourself push back the statist will begin to lose. You guys work on the inside, and we’ll work on the outside, don’t purchase their crap, vote with our dollars. As the money goes, so goes the industry.
Welcome, Michael Moriarty. I've loved you since "Bang the Drum Slowly." Andrew Breitbart, you're a genius!
Your smiling because a kindred spirit is putting forth the truth as God gave him the light to see and say it. How do I know? Cause I'm Smiling too.
;
Good on you, Michael! Thanks for helping us shine the Klieg light of truth on the lie that is all of liberalism.
Thank God ! Just in time, now please put Robert Downey Jr. out of our misery once and for all. We're beggin you Doctor !
Welcome to BH and back to Hollywood. There was a time in Tinsel Town when even the liberals would be sneered at by the lefties of today, a time when the men were still real men, no matter their political views, and would go off to war for their country.
Time for men again.
The diifferent treatment of Kazan and Polanski by the 'elite' in Hollywood is an indication of the disconnect from reality and even their own supposed 'principles'. In Kazan, they shunned a man who followed his conscience and moral code and 'tattled' on Communists within Hollywood. For that 'offense', a man followed his principles and faced the wraith for those 'progressives' who benefited from his talents and life's work. In Polanski, you had a monster who performed a heinious act upon a child, and fled justice; yet because of his 'genius', is embraced by those in Hollywood. Two men. One principled and willing to face reality. The other, immoral and a coward.
I'm not sure if Washington is communizing Hollywood or the other way around. Either way, it's a demonic alliance and it's good to have another bona-fide artist speaking out.
Bravo, Sir! I, for one look forward to when you come back to the United States proper. (As much as I enjoy my American born brother and sister in law living in Canada, it's still not the good ol'USA.) It will also be wonderful to have a real actor on our land as opposed to the 95% absolute drivel that is the current Hollywood/NY norm.
It was a pleasure reading the writings of a man who can actually see history and truth clearly, and not in some romantic fog. The interesting thing to remember is once totalitarians use "artists" to corrupt and destroy, and they take over, those same artists are the first to go. It's their final excercise in "collective" suicide. I would suggest Mr. Moriarty read a book I read 10 years ago called A Distant Crossing. The fictional story is mirroring what is happening today in an uncanny way.
Welcome MM! Nice to see you take a crack at what passes for "art" these days. Has there ever been a time in history when artists were more close-minded and less creative or more void of an original thought than they are today?
Absolutely marvelous…
Michael, welcome and can I make a request? I would love to see you write a book about your life in Hollywood about some of the more interesting stories you could relate to us ordinary everyday Americans. I know I would buy anything you would write. I have always loved you and your acting. I sensed in you that you weren't a suck up to the liberal elites during your long career and successful one at that as an actor. Your book I know would be a best seller. Please think about it because you have much to offer. And congratulations for your success you've had as an actor as well. To me you're one of the best 25 actors all time and I mean that sincerely.
Welcome to BH Michael… I was watching your work in Pale Rider just the other day. I was always fascinated by your character in that, as he's the little guy who just does the right thing all the time, in all the small ways that matter.
Thanks for your thoughts!
Hey Moriarty, it is about time you did something besides vegetating in northern wet land. Good read, you are still are mentally talented, no wonder your head is so big. Welcome back to the mainstream, it needs your voice to help Americans surge.
I second the enthusiasm of other commenters.
The more reasonable voices there are in the debate only strengthens the exchange of ideas in the arena of free speech.
Thanks Micheal. It's good to see you here. I've always enjoyed your work, as you a man of clear thinking intelligence, with the ability to communicate it. When Andrew started this site almost a year ago, this place has become a bastion for those of us who can't stand the overt and contrary mission that is "hollywood." To embrace Fidel, Che, Hugo, Mao, Joe, and all the other bad actors that have killed millions and enslaved countless others by idealogical nonsense, while trying to tear down and destroy all the good that is America. I hope that this is their final shot, and in 2010, we'll begin to send this abject failure to the dustbins of history.
I look forward to your thoughts sir…
Good job on the article, sir. Wish you were back on "Law & Order," 'cause that show's gone to liberal Hell without you.
Glad to see Mr. Moriarty joining this site and contributing his thoughts. Something in his post reminds me of a theory I've had for a long time, that the reason so many artists, performing and otherwise, are so far on the left is that, aside from government officials, they are the most privileged class of people in totalitarian societies, such as in the former Soviet Union. I personally observed this on a trip there in 1971. However, it didn't stop some of the more famous ones, such as Nureyev and Baryshnikov, from defecting when they got the chance. I think the rank and file performers were quite content with their lot, though.
This causes me to respect the integrity of the artists who post here even more, as I suspect their lefty peers are not pleased at what they write.
Thanks for being another voice for liberty.
Wow! Welcome to BH, Mr. Moriarty! Your acting has brought many of us much joy over the years, your writing will do the same! Now, is it just me, I'm getting the impression now that things are picking up for "us"??? A buddy jerked me out of a nice nap the other day to yammer on over the phone about some stuff he'd heard Clint Eastwood saying about role models, GI Joes, etc., which I need to see if I can find. I hope things will snowball, that Conservatism will come out of exile! Ok, I know, don't develop premature hopes or anything. But then again, we must maintain reasonable hopes and expectations that we can not only return to "normal" USA but also dangit, improve things and become even stronger. Well, anyway, welcome aboard Mr. Moriarty, may God bless you. Looking forward to your articles!

Welcome to Big Hollywood Mr. Moriarty! Thank you for the excellent first post and I look forward to reading more from you!
I hope Canada is treating you well.
Thanks from a Vancouver fan!
Sir, I look forward to your thoughts in regard to American liberty and theatrical arts.
Just saw a Law and Order on Saturday with you for the first time. Very different, very refreshing since I was but an infant when you were on the show.
It's great to have you on board, sir. Welcome.
My whole family and I enjoyed your work on L&O, and I was gratified to recently hear of your political views. (Also, I never realized until recently that you are so well-read.)
I look forward to reading your work.
Looks like it's time to bust out the "Pale Rider" DVD again. Excellent!
When I saw MM's picture on the front page, I went "Whoa!". Welcome aboard, Michael!
Thank you Mr Moriarty.
I have recently come to recognize that Elia Kazan's "On the Waterfront' is really about Hollywood's communist thuggery; this film is his greatest legacy because he honestly and truthfully recognized the evil which had infiltrated into the system.
Good stuff, MIchael. Don't be a stranger, I'm looking forward to more from you. And thanks for highlighting Elia Kazan.
Agreed, completely. Not only that, but the abortion issue shouldn't be a player in Federal elections. A Federal law to ban/restrict abortions is clearly unconstitutional. This is a states' rights issue.
Why, oh why, do people continue to play into the hands of the puppet masters running the two main political parties!
Welcome "out" Michael, good luck.
Welcome Michael, thought you were great in Law & Order back in the day. Why is it they never show your L & O shows in reruns? I believe acting should be judged by whether the audience believes you or not. I never thought you were acting I just believed what you said. Pretty naive of me huh.
Welcome, Michael Moriarty. Our group grows stronger and more outspoken every day. Andrew Breitbart is a shining star among conservatives, and God knows we need voices such as his. Your contribution will give us additional confidence and knowledge with which to fight the Dragon.
Welcome! Well-written and provactive! Nice to read your work!
Big Hollywood. Like a box of chocolates.
"To welcome new friends to both my work in Big Hollywood and enterstageright.com, I offer a most heartfelt tribute to the growing Breitbart enterprises and trust that our combined efforts will indeed help to pull us all up … and out of the post-Reagan quicksands we are now drowning in."
Outstanding. The face of America has been smeared enough. Every revolution must have its leaders and its foot soldiers.
I'm honored to be a foot soldier. 2010. I'm ready/
Michael, I say this as a big fan (as in I'm pretty sure there's a DVD of "The Stuff" around here, somewhere) but a slight correction:
"Recently, in the best French Revolutionary tradition, that enlightened despot rode roughshod over a rather royal member of the Catholic Church who was defending Rome’s decision to excommunicate a Kennedy for supporting abortion."
Patrick Kennedy hasn't been excommunicated. So far, it doesn't even seem as though he's been barred from taking communion. The bishop in question – who's a MASSIVE look-at-me media showoff, btw – apparently told him he shouldn't do it two years ago, and then wrote an editorial giving him a hard time when Kennedy chastened a Catholic Bishops group for not supporting healthcare reform without abortion restrictions. (One wonders where the Church's outrage on this was for the decades that TED Kennedy was of the same opinion.. oh, wait, Ted was popular so there was no political point to be scored.)
I concur whole-heartedly!!
I used to watch L&O when MM was on and thought it a great show. I no longer get television, but recently streamed some episodes from Netflix of the current shows, and they confirmed for me why I no longer watch tv.
Yikes.
The worst thing about McCarthyism was that he was right.
Thank you Michael Moriarty. I just wish that what you said was not true.
Mr. Moriarty-
To this day, I still get in fights with people when proclaiming that your performance in "Q" is one of the most underrated performances in film. Perhaps this is because the film itself is attached to the equally underrated Larry Cohen, but, still, it's an all-time fun actorly turn right up there with Nic Cage in "Vampire's Kiss".
Anyways… enough geeking out for me. Welcome!
Michael, I never knew anything about your politics, but loved you in "Bang the Drum Slowly". I am happy to see that you are a "pro-life, libertarian." Just as we really live in two Americas – not the rich and poor Americas described by the Left, but an America-loving, small government America v. an America-bashing, nanny state wealth redistributing America – we really need two Hollywoods. Let's have an experiment. Why don't the conservatives in Hollywood make movies and TV shows that celebrate and uplift Americans and traditional American values, and let the liberals in Hollywood continue to make the same liberal ideologically-driven entertainment currently coming out of Hollywood. Then, in 5 or 10 years let's see what's left (no pun intended) of liberal Hollywood.
Welcome, and THANK YOU!!
Welcome Mr. Moriarty. I'm thrilled that you will be contributing here and especially about the subject matter you speak of.
I peer back decades ago when communism/communists were met with a revolt by the far majority of Americans who actually knew of its/their danger. Now, the American populace seems to have been lulled to sleep (actually, slowly indoctrinated) and I really fear the direction we're going.
I recently was reading about Ginger Rogers and saw that she was the founder of Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of American Ideals, an organization of politically conservative movie workers who wanted to defend the film industry against communist infiltration (I'm sure you're aware of it).
Ayn Rand wrote a pamphlet for the Alliance stating: "The purpose of the Communists in Hollywood is not the production of political movies openly advocating Communism. Their purpose is to corrupt our moral premises by corrupting non-political movies–by introducing small, casual bits of propaganda into innocent stories–thus making people absorb the basic principles of Collectivism by indirection and implication."
continued…
Sir, my ex-wife is a huge L&O fan…and a full on liberal Democrat. Your presence here is gonna blow her mind.
Welcome. Let the fun begin.
Hey Michael, welcome to Big Hollywood. Big-ass exes and ohs bro'.
continuing…
I'm not for officially blacklisting people but I thought, wow, can you imagine any big name actor today creating such an organization? You're more likely to find someone creating the 'Motion Picture Alliance for Destroying American Ideals' (come to think of it, that IS the Hollywood film industry today).
We have more Marxists in government now than ever before. We used to have presidents that actually denounced Communism and its evils (including Democrats). Now,….
And if anyone thinks it's just hyperbole (and I DO hear Independents/moderates say, c'mon, this is America), all you have to do is read this: How the Kremlin hijacked Labour: Diary of a Kremlin insider reveals the hold Soviets had over Labour politicians.
It's been going on a long time. It's insidious and the parallels can be easily seen here in the US. Just listen to what people in this administration say and the collectivist, global governance (hello AGW) direction we're heading.
The counter-revolution is now American democracy.
Welcome to BIG HOLLYWOOD Mr. Moriarty!! I love Pale Rider!!!
Mr. Moriarty,
Great, fast-paced, thoughtful and assured first blog. Looking forward to those yet to come. A strong addition to the team. Hope to see you on Hardball teaching Matthews a thing or two.
Brilliant!
Michael, Bang the Drum Slowly is one of my favorite baseball movies. Of course, De Niro as always is great. But just a suggestion, try to think about the relationship between noun and verb, subject and object. Your writing drifts like a talk radio rant.
My thoughts, exactly! I no longer watch it – can't stand having Waterston's finger waggling in my face all the time!
Welcome aboard, MM!
Now I must turn you in to flag@whitehouse.org
Michael, Glad to have you aboard. You've always been one of my favorites, going back thirty years. I've been contributing to Big Hollywood since the Nine Stooges of AMPAS set off for the Unfriendly Skies of Iran and stayed on ever since. As you have done here, we contributors speak our minds regardless of the cost to our careers in show biz. There is right and there is wrong. We will not be silent.
Personally, I say screw 'em all! The tide is turning our way. A lot of Americans are wising up to the fact that those we elected to run the candy shop are in fact a bunch of greedy selfish children running wild in it. The adults will be back in charge soon enough. As to Hollywood, I know many great people there who have one interest only: making great films. They are the heart of Hollywood, not Michael Moore and Sean Penn. Again, Welcome Aboard
Awesome!
Michael, I had a major crush on you when you portrayed Ben Stone on "Law & Order", and after reading your inaugural post on BH, I'm still enchanted! Awesome post! Military families around the world will be heartened by your comments.
John Ford was a self-described liberal democrat. Just sayin'.
Wow! We have all heard the expression "it doesn't get any better than this" — and once again, Mr. Breitbart has surged BH to that level by opening the trail between readers and the courageous Mr. Moriarty! There is no doubt that Mr. Breitbart is a great General of his Forces and continues to scout for expert troops to help hold and defend the Field of Truth and Freedom. We all know we are in a great battle for the preservation of the Constitution and sovereignty of the USA, and communication is critical. Michael, we welcome you with great comfort, brother.
Great to hear from you again, I always enjoyed your work. You ruled on L&O.
As a child I listened to the Hearings on the radio many times while drying dishes for my grandmother. She "voice-overed" the scene for me and would explain who was saying what and why. I was excited and impressed by the energy and full commitment of the speakers, and understood that what was happening was something very important. My grandmother thought McCarthy was brave and he didn't care what was said about him, he was full steam ahead and right, while the others were liars and communists. Looking back now, knowing what has happened to our country since then, I know she was right.
Jesus, does this idiot have any idea how painful is his use of punctuation: commas and ellipses are not meant to be interchangeable. And while we're at it: what in the world is "universally painful granite"? "I've got retards on my team…Bingo!" Now that how you punctuate, Michael.
Mr. Moriarity —
Being Irish is both a blessing and a curse. Seems like you are recovering from the curse and sharing with us the blessing.
Thanks for your truthfulness and courage.
Can't wait to read your accounts of the red menace in action. It is not crazy, naive or out of date if the effects are still with us or the modus operandi is still in use.
Agree. Gotta add Carey Lowell though
Glad to be reading you Michael!!
[...] hey, look who’s joined Big Hollywood’s stable of right-leaning, uh, celebrities! It’s ADA Ben Stone! [...]
Who cares about a balanced budget when thousands of babies are being killed everyday by Barack Hussein Obama, George Soros and Acorn.
The divine protection from God will only last so long….
Yeah, and the liberal Democrats of those days would be mainstream Republicans today, or driven from the Democratic party like Lieberman. Just sayin'.
I don't normally post comments, but felt compelled this time. I adored Ben Stone in Law and Order, and enjoyed most of your other characters (except Jonathan Boyle in the godawful Poltergeist: The Legacy. Don't even get me started on that show). I knew you were leaning to the right, but I hadn't realized you could write as well as you could act. Welcome aboard, sir, and I look forward to more of your essays.
Great line in a great film with some great actors. So glad to see Mr. Moriarty writing here.
Always with those positive waves Moriarty ! Keep up the great work you do!!!
Good call, "Kelly's Heroes."
welcome to our world.
and God watches this play on Earth and knows who is speaking for the innocent.
God Bless you and yours…
Welcome Michael. I miss your presence on the small and big screen. Hurry back and keep writing.
Michael, you have made BH more of a must read than it's already been.
Welcome, Michael! I was only introduced to your writing at ESR a few weeks ago here in John Nolte's tribute to your work on L&O when it was still worth watching. I'm delighted to find that you share my pro-life and little 'l' libertarianism.
Chris Matthews, being a MSM grandee, doesn't need to do his homework about how the laws on abortion worked back in the eeeeevilll days before Roe v Wade. If he did, he'd discover that NO women went to jail for having abortions.

Prosecutions were directed against ABORTIONISTS, particularly the indiscrete incompetent ones. To do so, the DA would need witnesses; penalizing women for admitting to abortions would have been counter-productive.
Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a founding member of NARAL, and for the past three decades an outspoken pro-life advocate, dissects the "Safe, legal, and rare" pietism of the "pro choice" politician. He posits that the most practical way to make abortions 'safe' and 'rare' would be to make them illegal again. Doctors would once again have to be discreet and VERY careful, while they don't under the umbrella of Roe.
Looking forward to finding you here on a regular basis. God bless.
Michael me boyo, welcome! Want to play Tegwar? Everyone in the administration does.
How comfortable your writing feels. I want to pull up a chair and talk. Welcome.
Welcome Mr. Moriarty, what a thrill to see you here.
Enjoyed reading what you had to say and look forward to readying
many more of your articles.
c'mon in…the water is HOT…but worth the sacrifice! Look forward to your future posts.
Welcome Michael. It is refreshing to see an actor who stands behind his convictions.
c'mon in…the water is HOT…but worth the sacrifice! Look forward to your future posts.
Great post! I can't wait to read more. It would be great to have some type of detailed outline of soviet sedition and propaganda undermining of the arts and cinema in the USA.
This is just so cool! I hope you write often and look forward with fannish anticipation, quite unseemly for a female of my advanced years!
Welcome. I miss the Golden Age of Law & Order. Question, do you put "Q" on your resume?
Outstanding to have you posting here Michael and "Bang the Drum Slowly" is one of my all time favorite movies.
Mr. Moriarty, you are among the best company on the face of this planet. We welcome you into the fold, and not just because you've emerged espousing your libertarian idea; but moreso that you've decided to shun the PC dogma that all entertainers must by default be liberal in belief.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.
It is with great pleasure to welcome you and your message to Breitbart's Big Hollywood, Mr. Moriarty. I have always admired your tenacity in vocalizing the conservative principle. Your character in "Bang The Drum Slowly" foreshadowed your intellegence and wit as a Great American. Breitbart has blessed us with the best in jounalism and breaking news that the liberals refuse to report. Intellegence in journalism is good, but without honesty it is useless. Thank you Mr. Moriarty. Hope to play Teg war with you some day.
Ford's worldview as pertains to filmmaking celebrated rugged American individualism., a decidely conservative trait. I agree with CharlieSays that if he were here with us today he would not describe himself as a stinking liberal.
Grateful to have you!
Welcome. Good ideas and well written posts are always a delight.
Welcome sir, welcome. Are there more like you out there in the entertainment world? Please bring them out into the light.
I got a +6 just for saying "Welcome"? If I buy MM a drink, do I get a Buick or something?
Recall that DeNiro, whom Mr. Moriarty worked with in "Bang the Drums Slowly", was out front clapping his hands for Kazan. I know nothing of DeNiro's political beliefs but always thought better of him after that.
Damn Bob, always the curmudgeon! We’re having a welcoming celebration for Michael over here at BH, and you gotta rain on the parade. Using hyperbole to punctuate a point, is not a cardinal sin, …no pun intended, let’s call it editorial license. However your point about the inconsistencies of the Catholic Church, with church doctrine are true, Ted Kennedy should have been kicked out of the church, for divorce, negligent homicide, abortion, etc. the list is long.
I THINK HE SLAMMED THE HEAD OF THE NAIL HOME, as bad as he acted like he didn't want to, WELCOME TO OUR WORLD!!!!!!!!!! THE PROGRESSIVES ARE THE INVADERS, THEY HAVE NOTHING THAT CONSTITUTES THEM, THEIR DREAMS CAN COME TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't want to be a Robert Downey Jr. apologist, but what do you have against him?
Here's a nice little tidbit I snagged from Wikipedia:
Downey has indicated that his time in prison has changed his political point of view somewhat, saying: “I have a really interesting political point of view, and it’s not always something I say too loud at dinner tables here, but you can’t go from a $2,000-a-night suite at La Mirage to a penitentiary and really understand it and come out a liberal. You can’t. I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone else, but it was very, very, very educational for me and has informed my proclivities and politics ever since.”[85] In a 2007 interview with W magazine Downey showed the journalist a photograph of himself and his wife with President George W. Bush.[84]
The trolls are pretty harmless. There only response to non-liberal actors is to insult either their current or former acting ability. As most of us watched Mr. Moriarty make Law & Order in its heyday, I doubt the trolls will even bother. Rather, they will most likely ignore your posts.
Hollywood elitists are nothing more than worthless, self-important, anti-American egotists. They spew their venom to the world while praising themselves and giving each other endless awards so they won't feel guilty for participating in their deviant lifestyles. They preach "tolerance" but they are not satisfied with tolerance, THEY WANT FULL ACCEPTANCE OF THEIR SICK LIFESTYLES AND MENTAL ILLNESSES. In reality, they act the part of heroes while they surrounding themselves with adoring, WEAK MINDED WORSHIPERS WHO WILL NEVER TELL THEM THE TRUTH.

Welcome! I used to watch L&O, but can't watch it anymore. I always enjoyed Ben Stone. Missed you when you left.
That's just because in Polanski's world of fantasy, like the rest of Hollywood, they only see what they are used to seeing and 'playing' in the movie world…it seems in Hollywood's eyes, they cant seem to differentiate between children in the 'real world' and the actors that play the roles of abused children…therefore, since they never venture out of their 'comfort zone' of fantasy, they think the rest of the world is crazy…
P.S. Congrats to Andrew for your continuing fight. You're a star in your own right.
I agree, Buckwheat. It appears the L&O writers now just lazily look to the right-wing boogey men to pen their scripts. And by Nielsen's own standards, it's a miserable failure.
Welcome. Glad to see you here.
Welcome Michael, and wonderful to have you here!
Michael! Youda man!
Welcome Michael !!!! You were missed. xo
It's great to see you here, sir. I loved Law and Order when it first started out. I no longer watch it. It has gone so far left that I can no longer stomach it. Please keep bringing more writings like this one. We have 3 more years to put up with what is in the White House. We need to hear from folks like you to keep us sane for the next 3 years.
Refreshing! Hypocrisy & Apathy are the traits we must change in ourselves.
I read local, national & international news everyday and not just those that agree with my views.
I listen to conservtives with a skeptical ear because that is what I recommend to my liberal friends to do when they listen to thw MSM.
Good luck!
Welcome. Just watched "Pale Rider" recently. Loved your character in that.
Welcome MM, Loved your work with Larry Cohen, on Law & Order(The Pre-Political Correctness version)
All I can say is WOW!!! It is refreshing to see their are a few "Die Hards" left out there in nowhere land. Welcome aboard!!!
Welcome abord, Michael. My hat is off to all of you in the industry, "coming out of the closet", as it were, and proclaimimg yourselfs not the predominate leftists we perceive in that industry.
On your alcoholic mother, I suspect she had plenty of demons to fight in addition to the 2 children that "could have been".
On controlling the artists to control the population, I would say that the jury is still out on that. If you haven't seen the excellent German film The Lives of Others, I recommend that you do so. Government sponsored "art" is always recognized as just that….
Welcome, Michael! I've been reading up on your archived posts on enterstageright.com and am very impressed. Glad to have you on Big Hollywood! I've been a fan of yours since L& O (I am a recovering L & O addict – they drove me away with the extreme leftist bent they took). So write away. As a fellow pro-life libertarian, I look forward to reading more from you.
Enjoyed the article by Michael Moriarty. It is heartening to see gifted actors who also understand what is happening to the Country politically.
I look forward to reading more from Mr. Moriarty.
Kathy.
Welcome Michael! Love your first blog! You sir have done well!
Glad to see you here! I look forward to your future articles.
VERY GOOD ALLAMERICAN. YOUR THE BEST. THANKS AGAIN. GOD BLESS.
One of us!
For self preservation and not to bolster my ego, I only listen to, read, or watch people that I agree with. I'll listen, read, watch, Michael any day of the week.
That PRC population control poster radiates so much garish faux optimism that you just know that it has to stand for something terrible.
Michael,
I hope this comment does not come too late for you to read it. I SINCERELY hope that you can fully appreciate that these smatterings of welcome are just the tip of a much larger number of unspoken ones looming under the surface, from people who may not have taken the time to have written but who nevertheless feel, as I do, a great joy to see you here. You have a rare gift of telegraphing humanity on the screen, and you have moved many of the people who are now your new family — myself more than most, perhaps.
It was a great pleasure to see your name here. We look forward to more as fast as you can write it.
Best regards, and welcome home.
Bill Whittle
It's a real pleasure to read Michael's words.
I've worked in Hollywood for 20 years and sickened by the views of it's elite. I am a below-the-line warrior, being both Christian and Conservative, and having participated in many discussions with fellow craftsmen.
Folks, it's a war out there. They have taken off the kids gloves, we need to also.
Two points:
POINT #1: Conservatives need to wean themselves off of Hollywood, and any other entertainment providers with a proclivity for anti-American speech or who support socialist / communist ideas. Do your part to put these people out of business. If you have to see their movies, go to a dollar theater, rent it from a Redbox, or get it from the library. These people hate capitalism, let them live by their words. These people use their resources to destroy America, time to hit back financially.
POINT #2: As Michael has noted– Control the arts, control the people. I have stated this before… Conservatives must start cutting loose funds for Conservative filmmakers. I know all you conservatives are also conservative with your money, but you must start financing Conservative filmmakers and look at the big picture, not just am I going to make my money back. Hollywood finances all kinds of unsuccessful crap that is steeped in their twisted ideology. It may not have made its buck back in theaters, but million of people are still viewing these movies. Their ideas are being passed along regardless of success. Hollywood is willing to spend money to spread their poison, shouldn't we be prepared to do the same for truth?
But not every film can be blatantly conservative. They need to be real films, with conservative ideals weaved in sub-textually. Otherwise, you are dead in the water.
I am 100% conservative and trying to get financing for my films, hoping to do an end run like Sam Raimi (EVIL DEAD to SPIDERMAN) or Peter Jackson (BAD TASTE to LORD OF THE RINGS) — Start out with horror, get a following, move into better films. As a conservative, I don't hang with liberal Hollywood… I hang with other conservatives. Conservatives can't bring themselves to invest in my movies because movies are considered to be a high risk investment. Liberal Hollywood sniffs me out a mile away, they aren't going to help.
Consider iconic, Academy Award Winner, Robert Duvall who couldn't get 3 million dollars to fund his film, THE APOSTLE. He ended up financing it himself. Yet, at the same time I knew of a 20+ year old actress, not even an A-lister, who had a 2 million dollar production deal.
Conservatives with money… the time is now. Start cutting checks to support other conservatives in artistic endeavors. It is war. The future you invest in may not only be the artists, it may be yours as well.
An if you don't know any conservative filmmakers to invest in, look me up.
Great post. Please please be prepared for the left's usual tactic of ad hominem ridicule and vulgar marginalization. Remember this class act? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santorum_(sexual_neo... Hang in there with us.
Welcome to Big Hollywood Mr Moriarty! I like the way you call it like you see it!
Welcome Michael. Thank you for coming out so forcefully.
I am a journeyman union actor laboring in the shadows, hiding my opinions so I can stay working. Every time someone of your stature comes out swinging for the first time, I get re-energized to stay in the game.
I choose to work behind the scenes dropping the odd Conservative meme-bomb in this green room, or refuting that Lefty catechism at that rehearsal. We all have our way of pushing back, and I believe it is all incremental and additive. Like water on the rock, we WILL break the Stalinist lock on our world. We have cold logic on our side. And we have heart.
God bless you, Michael. Thanks for being there for us.
Rico
With 46 weeks to election day I'm more certain then ever of our victory with Mr. Moriarty with keyboard in hand! Press on lads we'll beat the bastards!
"What does Big Hollywood mean?
Is it a tribute or in-house sarcasm?"
I've never been clear on this either. Where does the name come from?
Amen!
Welcome and God bless:)
Michael, you're an inspiration. I will read more and pay more attention to what's happening in American politics. Thank you.
Every voice is needed. It will take more than a notion to turn this tide.
The Stuff = awesome
I remember that as well. I also remember seeing Kurt Russell (and others) standing and clapping. Meanwhile, Ed Harris was sitting on his hands, glowering. My respect for Kurt Russell grew that evening, and, although I like him as an actor (I really liked the part he played in Absolute Power), I lost respect for Ed Harris that evening.
