In Defense of Katherine Heigl
by Leigh ScottThe London Times recently ran an article about Katherine Heigl and her comments indicating that the ire directed at her by the press (especially the Internet) is the result of sexism. The article wasn’t particularly enlightening, but it did call to attention the bad rap this young actress has gotten from the media. It also made some commentary about the general condition of women in Hollywood. The closing paragraph defended Heigl, but didn’t go far enough.
While its fun and all to smack Hollywood people around (as I did with Megan Fox), it is occasionally important to do the opposite. The plight of Katherine Heigl in the media has a lot to do with her background and what is expected of actresses in today’s Hollywood cesspool. In broader terms it speaks volumes as to what the left expects from women in our society.
Full disclosure. I have two personal connections to Ms. Heigl. My first feature film starred Dalton James who co-starred with her in the film “My Father the Hero.” Dalton always spoke highly of her and suggested her for numerous roles in our film. A few years later Katherine was one of the finalists for the lead role in my second feature film. Despite great auditions and numerous, friendly chats with my producer and me, we decided that she was a bit too young to play the part. As a side note this is exactly the kind of critical thinking on my part that has lead me to make movies with giant, rubber sharks. But I digress. In my dealings with her she was nothing but fun, friendly and talented. I point this out not to impress or name drop, but to hopefully mitigate the trolls who will claim that I don’t know what I’m talking about.
Flash forward to today. Heigl is a popular movie and television star and has launched her own production company. Bloggers, tabloids, and television shows have branded her “bitchy,” “difficult,” “obnoxious,” and worst of all apparently “ungrateful.” There was a brief dust up between her and the producers and stars of “Knocked Up” after she stated that the film was “sexist.” The people behind the film (Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow) took offense and said some unflattering remarks about the actress.
If you read bile like Perez Hilton’s site (he calls her a “bitch” in almost every article), you will see tons of negative posts about Ms. Heigl. She also took some heat for complaints she made on the David Letterman show about the producers of her show “Grey’s Anatomy.” Everywhere you look, Heigl is getting slammed by the press.
In the Vanity Fair article that sparked the beef with the Apatow cult, is a little known fact, one already known to those of us who have directly interacted with her. Her family is Mormon and she possesses some very traditional values concerning sex and marriage.
Ah ha! That’s it. That’s why she’s persona non grata amongst the PR “intelligencia.” She’s a Mormon who refused to live with her boyfriend before she got married. She must be one of those evil, retarded, selfish Republicans. She must hate the gays and the blacks and want to convert all people to Christianity while embracing capitalist principles that oppress the poor.
But hold the phone. Heigl is a loyal, supportive member of SAG. She also marched with the writers during the recent writer’s strike. Gulp. And what’s this? During the whole “Grey’s Anatomy” hubbub, where one cast member made a derogatory comment about another, she publicly supported the gay guy. Gasp. And look, she smokes. She smokes more than Christopher Hitchens or Leigh Scott. Yikes. What are we to make of this?
Katherine Heigl isn’t a poster child for conservatism. Far from it. She maintains her own personal code and lives life marching to the beat of her own drummer. When asked about politics, she stated that it “wasn’t her forum” and declined to endorse a political candidate on camera.
Could it just be that Heigl pissed off the wrong people; the beloved Apatow team and their minions? Could the sycophants in the media simply be backing the man that they view to be the reincarnation of Frank Capra? Hardly. Katherine Heigl earns their scorn because she is a feminist; a vocal, powerful, successful feminist. And nothing ticks off the left more than a feminist who doesn’t fit their mold of what feminism should be.
Just ask Sarah Palin.
Feminists, by the leftist definition, are bitter, unattractive women who have been abused by the male dominated society. They are the types who cry foul at every opportunity. They are angry malcontents. I’ve linked two videos that are awesome displays of what leftist feminists should look and act like.
–
–
Feminists shouldn’t be able to pose for Maxim. Feminists shouldn’t have happy, loving relationships with men who respect them. For the leftist, feminism is only useful as another divisive tool, a way to create another class of victim ready to be embraced by the gentle arms of Big Government. Only through the continued oppression of different groups of people can Marxism, Socialism, and Statism gain any traction.
When women achieve love, money, and power on their own, it destroys the construct that society makes it impossible for them to do so. Empowerment is a goal that must always be kept in the distance. The end zone is always moving. If you’re a Fox News anchor, Miss California, the Governor of Alaska, or an attractive actress/producer you must be slandered, silenced and stopped.
Sandra Bullock, America’s sweetheart, has also recently taken some heat from pundits and critics for her latest film. She is one of the most successful hyphenates in the industry. She is happily married to a man who is extremely popular with all of us in “flyover country.” She represents what can be done in our country through hard work and talent. She is the product of decades of struggle by great women to achieve equality and respect. She’s also about to get more bad press because she no longer fits the narrative of female victims.
There is another scary thing about people like Heigl. They demonstrate that we all don’t fit into tiny little ideological boxes. You can be religious and moral but still support gay friends, smoke, and march for labor unions. You can be a chain-smoking, scotch drinking, B-movie director who hasn’t been to church since he was 13, but passionately support the War on Terror and oppose all of the tomfoolery of the Obama administration. Long ago, the left seized on the alliance between the secular Libertarians and the Christian Right to reframe all arguments as scholarly theory vs. religious faith. In reality, it is a battle between faith in the state and faith in the individual. Once the masses figure that out, the left is screwed. They have to keep us divided into two simplistic opposing teams.
So there you have it. Katherine Heigl is a victim of her own success; personal and professional. She also represents a graying of political ideology that terrifies the demagogues. Think twice before you hate on her. If you knew her, and not the leftist projection of her, you might have a different opinion.
And Katherine, my bad, I should have cast you. If you ever want to battle aliens, dinosaurs, or giant insects you know where to find me.

A nice post Leigh. There is a herd instinct that appears to be at work here. If she ticked off some in the Hollywood media who then criticized her, it is almost mandated others will jump on the bandwagon. Your comments ring true. We are not all so easy to put in a little ideological box . . . and that is a good thing.
You might be right. Or, maybe she is a bitch. Certainly, hypocritical. I thought it was ungrateful for her to say a movie she made that did very well was sexist. She didn't read the script beforehand? How brave of her to take all that money and then call it sexist. A profile in courage. And didn't she make a comment that basically said the writing of Grey's Anatomy sucked? Again, how brave of her while she's making all that money to stand up to the people who helped her get there.
Sorry, she may be getting a raw deal within Hollywood. But I'll save my sympathy for people who actually deserve it.
….the socialist, progressive an in-bred left has a hypocrisy that defies the imagination….
The hypocrisy of the Feminist movement comes through once more. Based on the article in the British paper, it sounds like Heigl is again raising the issue that there are no (or not many) multi-dimensional characters for women (and men) to play in the movies that are being made. The women are all professionally successful shrews (e.g., Heigl's and Bullock's latest films) and the guys are all lovable doofuses or bitter soldiers "stuck in Irak". Why can't there be meaningful roles for women, full of honor, pathos, and decency? Why is every female role a stuck-up business woman or a stripper with a heart of gold?
I think Heigl's complaint echoes much of what I read here. Where are the delightful comedies of the 30s? Where are the pride-inducing war films of the 40s? Where are the epic dramas of the 50s and 60s? Films today seem to be (1) veiled political slams (although not so much now that Obama's in charge), (2) bad remakes of classic movies or TV shows, or (3) mindless drivel aimed at 17-year-old boys. More actors should be making the complaint that Heigl is…give us better scripts, better characters, better settings. No more crap!
Great article and I agree with entirely. One only has to look at the double standards in Hollywood. Heigl is vilified for jokily mentioning working long hours on Letterman and co-star Eric Dane is getting much less flack for sex tape video showing him in a drugged up threesome. Something wrong there if you ask me.
If she thought Knocked Up was sexist why did she make it? After the movie is done and the check is cashed seems to be a little late to complain about it. She has standards about living with her boyfriend but not about movies she makes?
Her comments make her look ungrateful, she may or may not be, but to those of us who don't know her this is the way she comes across.
She might be Mormon, but she certainly doesn't understand the concept of modesty…
Regardless, trashing someone because they disagree with you is a defining feature of the left at large.
Yes!
Your making sense out of a argument… the LEFT HATES that!!!! The two clips that you have there make great points… Clinton with her LOVELY remarks and then that SNAGGLE TOOTH BOXER…… these Women should be MUZZLED….. The Boxer comment IMHO, was VERY SEXIST to say the least… she wants to have equal rights? The General was taught to treat EVERYONE with a very high LEVEL OF RESPECT, and he did and that HAG wanted him to call her SENATOR…. what a HAG!!!!! A sea hag at that……. sorry for the name calling but I have DISTAIN for that women…… another great article though, and Heigl, big deal that the left and the media are KICKING you… Look at what it did for Carrie Prejean……. she has had the LAST LAUGH!!!
Why does Obama say he never said he was for a single-payer medical system when he is on video tape doing so? Why does Spielberg denounce the Holocaust but give money to put Roseann Barr in photos burning Jew cookies? These are sell outs.
Why did Brad Pitt wear a chicken costume for El Pollo Locco? Why did Michael Caine do half the movies he has? To pay the rent.
Ms. Heigl's personal feeling did not affect her performance in material she felt to connection with or even objected to. A testament to her talent unless you are a misogynist.
Typo: …NO connection with…
"Long ago, the left seized on the alliance between the secular Libertarians and the Christian Right to reframe all arguments as scholarly theory vs. religious faith. You nailed it here- the media – print and Hollywood- propagate a caricature of the opposition as simple-minded religious fundamentalists incapable of free thought. Their worst nightmare- Atheists Against Abortion.
Personally, I'm not so offended by Ms. Clinton's when you understand rape has just been outlawed in Lyberia 2 years ago. Africa is a male dominated culture continent and they have the decline to show for it. I have met and observed Ms. Boxer and I am amazed she keeps getting voted in because it take a certain soullesness to be so condescending to everyone you meet. As for Ms. Heigl, I believe it has been far too long since Bette Davis turned a looking glass on Hollywood. Bravo.
Thanks Leigh. The left as you stated thrives on division, without victims, the left would be rendered impotent. They must attack anything or anyone that breaks their slave chains, and disproves their leftist dogma. Ms. Heigl dares to claim her own identity, through her own success and by extension becomes a de-facto conservative, this must not be allowed. I do not know what her politics are and really don’t care, but she sounds like the kind of woman the harder the Perez Hiltons of the world push, the stiffer her spine will become. This is the kind of American our Founders envisioned, free and independent, which in today’s America means “conservative.”
I believe in capitalism. If you dont like Katherine Heigl, and cant separate her work from her personal views, dont see her films. If enough people agree with you, she'll be out of work and out of the public eye. I doubt that will happen; most people accept her personal views for what they are – her personal opinion.
Leigh a very good article but I have a bone to pick with you. In the future please try not to have Lady Macbeth Clinton and Leather- Face Boxer back to back on youtube clips so early in the morning . How's a guy suppose to eat breakfast and keep it down. Come on Brother it's tough enough out here. Thanks man. Here's hoping Lunch and Dinner goes better.
Hey, count your blessings, at least there wasn't a Helen Thomas video up there….
Damn… there goes Lunch.
Love her!
Glad to hear she is one of good ones.
I have no idea what a feminist really is and what a real feminist's goals are by being a feminist. I won't pretend to wax superior upon a topic about which I have no clue.
But I will say that a sense of victimhood and entitlement in anyone shows weakness of character and a willingness to exploit feelings of guilt in others for personal gain. So you have people that either hold positions that they didn't earn or are qualified to hold, people taking from others without earning it or repaying the debt, and an overall sense in this country that if you screech like a victim loud enough that you are entitled to things that you aren't really entitled to have.
Katherine Heigl hasn't lived the lifestyle of a Mormon in a long time, though I've heard her say that she does intend to come back some day.
In her defense, the Vanity Fair interviewer asked her if she thought Knocked Up wasn't sexist, so she answered honestly. When she didn't submit her name for Emmy considerations a few years ago, a reporter chased her down and asked her why she didn't, so she gave an honest answer. When each of the other main characters on Gray's Anatomy were making considerably more than she was, and she was holding out for a salary on par with theirs, she was branded as being difficult by her producers, so she fought back. She doesn't just open her mouth and complain. When she's asked a loaded question, she answers truthfully, and she's willing to fight for what she wants. Never having met her, I can't say whether she's difficult or not, but it at least seems as though she has provocation.
If you could get her to battle the giant insects while wearing outfit #2 above, I'd watch it.
I don't actually care about her personal views.
You might be right. Or, maybe she is a jerk.
Tall Poppy Syndrome
But did Brad Pitt or Michael Caine trash the movies they got paid to make right after they made them? Maybe they did, I don't know and don't have the interest to google it. But if they did I would feel the same way about them. Maybe the producers of her show/movies like her to do that because it is plublicity for the show/movie. I don't know. I'm not saying her views on religion, politics, fashion, the weather, etc., are out of line, I'm just saying it looks like she is biting the hand that feeds her.
[...] a drunken fight with her husband Pete Wentz . ” class=”middle” /> Read more! In Defense of Katherine Heigl – bighollywood.breitbart.com 08/18/2009 The London Times recently ran an article about Katherine [...]
Exactly.
I don't know what to make of her. I like her and loath her at the same time. If what Sarah N. says is the context of her comments, then Ogeechee's argument is not as good. She is honest. What she has said is truth, something terribly lacking in the Hollywierd/Obamanation world. Yes, I still think she is biting the hand that feeds her and is therefore ungrateful. Then again, I really don't care.
Let me make sure I understand the thinking here. She was in a movie she knew was sexist, took the money, and then said it was sexist when asked, so now we say that's just her being honest?
If that's something to be proud of, I don't see it.
It was a good post and props to Ms. Heigl for moving outside the Hollywood box. I gotta agree with you about the vids, less "Secretary of Cakes Clinton" and "Barbra Botox" and more sassy photos please.
Dear Gawd, all that pontification for Katherine Heigl? Are you kidding? Comparing her to Hilary, Barbara and other strong women who are making a difference is laughable. The girl is just a cheesy rom-com actress making a ton of money, good for you that she was sweetness and light when you worked with her. There is a difference between being honest and nonsense coming out of your mouth. Heigl needs to know the difference.
You are absolutely right. From what I can see she's getting slammed in the press for biting the hand that feeds her, not for her views on politics, religion, fashion, current events, etc.
Excellent point. Just when you think the Grey's cast has hit rock bottom, McSleazy finds a way to keep digging.
There is another possibility as well.
It could be that the movie was changed from the script in post production.
An example of this is the movie "That Thing You Do!" There are two versions of it. One, the one I fell in love with, is a nostalgic look back at simpler times (at least we remember them that way) with lovable characters.
The other version that is out is much darker. Many of the characters are not nearly as likable as they are in the "original." It is basically a totally different movie.
If there were scenes in "Knocked Up" that were filmed and gave a certain balance to the film, and those scenes were deleted from the final product, you might end up with a film that is much more sexist than the script read.
I don't see what the big deal is. She is pretty. She was/is on Grey's anatomy. She is a Mormon but doesn't practice all their teachings. She did say that "Knocked Up" was sexist. She is entirely forgettable after one look. She hasn't said entirely stupid things, neither has she said extremely intelligent things.
Until today, I didn't even know she existed. The only thing I can think of is that she has bitten the hand that feeds her. It didn't hurt the box-office receipts. She probably regrets that remark, but oh well. I am not going to lose sleep over it. Lot's of thunder and fury about her signifying nothing.
That's Hollywood. Basically she admitted that job was mercenary work. She might be proud of her performance, not proud of the job. Been there, done that.
Although the post makes me feel slightly better about her as a person, I still don't think she's a very good actress (though, honestly, I haven't seen very many of her films and I generally loathe Gray's Anatomy). However, the fact that Perez Hilton wants to tear her down so much definitely ranks as a plus in my book, and I'd sooner take her side than I would Seth Rogen's, who has never come across as anything other than a talentless twerp who for some reason the media can't seem to get enough of even though he's never done anything really great. (Hmmm….remind you of anyone?)
It is just a Hollywood thing or a liberal arts thing – the blacklisting of people with whom they disagree politically or religiously. Funny that they have made scored of movies about the dark McCarthy era. dum dum DUUUUMMMMM!
In my world, I would not give a rip who someone slept with, what God they prayed to (or not) or who in the world they check marked on their ballot as long as they kicked butt. Part of kicking butt is not letting out of work life creep into work life. At ALL! But how do you not let the two mix when you spend 10 hour days pretending to be someone else?
An aside, but related – It sometimes gave me a smile thinking of Jenine Garafalo having to sell her "soul" (I am making an assumption here) and play someone who wants our country to be safe and defended… and had to do it on FOX. Yep. Smiling~
The Left has often been more sexist than the Right. During the 1960s and 1970s they treated women like sexual objects and rejected them when they refused to comply or when they just grew tired of them. Don't believe me, read Terry Anderson's The Movement and the Sixties. Anderson is no conservative by any means but he does chronicle the hypocrisy of the left very well.
"Some young men considered themselves revolutionaires, and in some circles female submission became 'revolutionary duty.' Marge Piercy complained that a 'man can bring a woman into an organization by sleeping wiht her and remove her by ceasing to do so. A man can purge a woman for no other reason than that he has tired of her, knocked her up, or is after someone else: and the purge is accepted without a ripple… The etiquete that governs is one of master-servant."
Perhaps Heigl is in trouble because she forgot who is the master and who is the slave, from the lefts stand point not mine.
The laughable fact here is that you think that BOXER AND HILLARY are actually making a difference…..I think that you need to know the difference between opinions and actuality…..
If Katherine Heigl had come to Hollywood in 1939 she would have been bigger than Betty Davis. She is a classic AMERICAN beauty. She is who she is. If I were her I'd be like I really don't care what these people think of me. I have better things to be concerned about.
Who are you voting for? \”The right person for the job.\”
What do you think of the war? \”I think I am proud of our fighting men and women and hope that they all return safely to their loved one's arms\”
And I did not even have to think about it.
You control you. A concept a lot of folks would benefit from learning.

Katie Heigl might be the most wonderful human being on the planet but since we don't know her, all we have is her public "persona." Sometimes an actor/actress's persona isn't honed too well and I think in her case, she doesn't come across as the fun, charming person Scott described. There are other actresses I can think of who are the same way…they're not very good at crafting a public face so they come across as chilly and hard-nosed or totally fake. There was a reason why in the olden days studios worked very hard to develop a star.
"When asked about politics, she stated that it “wasn’t her forum” and declined to endorse a political candidate on camera."
I suspect this is the true heart of the matter. For the left, its not enough to be 'not Republican.' You have to enthusiastically support their side or you are the enemy. This comes up in universities as well.
"And Katherine, my bad, I should have cast you. If you ever want to battle aliens, dinosaurs, or giant insects you know where to find me."
And if she ever wants to take on a horde of ravenous zombies armed with nothing but a chainsaw, have her give me a call.
She was sweetness and light when she did MY FATHER THE HERO b/c she was 14 years old and had her whole life ahead of her.
I dont know her. She seems nice. What's all the hub bub, bub? Give a girl a break
Heigl's problem with the Apatow trolls reminds me of the whole hubbub that went down between Isaac Hayes and Matt Stone/Trey Parker on South Park. He had no problem collecting a paycheck and helping make fun of every religion out there, but the moment they touched scientology, that was it for him. Whether or not it was the higher-ups in the "church" or not is irrelevant. Granted, I think Heigl's situation was a little different (Parker/Stone are infinitely funnier and more intelligent than Apatow & Co.), but they share some of the same issues.
[...] *In Defense of Katherine Heigl, by Leigh Scott. Mostly an excuse to throw up this photo: [...]
Katherine Heigl has big bosums and (according to gossip sites) sleeps with many hockey players. Other then that I don't know anything else about her other then she seems ungrateful for being able to those that allowed her to make millions of dollars in a short period of time doing not much of anything.
I read about her a lilttle bit, mainly when cruizing the left wing web-sites to see what they are crying about. I say you're right about this one. She's just one of many that they like to slander. It doesn't take much to figure out why, and it's usually something "they" see as a defect in her character because the particular woman they are vilifying are not necessarily carrying their water.
Ugh, you beat me to it. That is the paragraph that resonated with me. As someone who used to be a liberal and is still an agnostic, but used to be a "know it all", swotty kind of agnostic, I totally get the battle now – statism v. individualism.
And you are so right – if more Americans figure that out, the Left is done. So I hope we all figure it out real soon and watch the Left crumble. Oh Happy Days!
Until feminists go into islamic countries and take bullets and cutlasses, they're just another idiot, overeducated w/more money than sense.(sorry for going off topic)Heigl's hot!Works for me.
I posted a comment about this in a different forum but sharise parviz of restrainednomore.com just did a video addressing the dbl standards in politics as well. just as bad if not worse than in hollywood.
"Womeniand Politic: what a mix" funny stuff and what sems to be true
"women and politics: what a mix" typos.. it would be great to see her vid here
she may not fit into a tiny little ideological box but damn, she fits into that tiny little bikini, doesn't she?
Loved her as Chief Ryback's (Steven Seagal) daughter in 'Under Siege 2'. She was a cutie then. And now a talent and a knockout to boot.
You go, girl…
I don't watch anything Katherine is in, and I don't follow gossip, so I don't even have a real grasp on what this is about. But, I do know she's about the hottest thing ever:

Would Andrew Breitbart be miffed if you went out and dissed his site?
And why can't a movie do very well *and* be sexist?
Movies where the men are portrayed as comical idiots do very well that *that* is sexist.
She said her character was a typical career oriented bitch. Was she wrong? Women are portrayed like that a lot when they're supposed to be "strong".
You know what movie bugged the heck out of me? The last Mummy movie. The "smart" wife telling the "dumb" husband what to do about his son. Or rather, the "know it all" wife speaking down to her husband. Hated that. I'm not a self-identified "feminist" but I do actually SEE that both portrayals of dumb bumbling men and know it all, cold, and rather bitchy women, are SEXIST.
Thanks for the article Mr. Scott. I have been following Mrs. Heigl since she started in film and became a huge fan after her run on Roswell. To be honest, when my wife asks me who do I think is an attractive, drop dead gorgeous woman, Mrs. Heigl immediately comes to mind. Now, I don't know anything about her personally, I am not one of these guys who needs to know everything about someone. Still, she has always struck me as a completely independent women. I might not agree with her on some issues but at least she is not trying to beat me over the head with them either. Anyhow, I agree with your article completely and thanks for dropping some knowledge in a fair and balanced way.
Oh yeah, even though my wife tells me she "loves" Keanu Reeves I am not stupid enough to tell her I think Heigl is gorgeous. Rule number 1 for all you married guys out there…..
And really – isn't that all that matters?
Always glad to read a positive inference to our adopted "Texas gal" Sandy Bullock. She adopted my second hometown of Austin and we adopted her…early on when she had just moved here I was at a show at the legendary Antone's in downtown Austin (yes I'm old enough to remember the other locations, particularly the one up by U.T.) and in front of me is Sandra Bullock in jeans and a tee. Wowwy. What a doll. Antone's has a VIP box away from the sweathogs and craziness that can be Antone's standing room area/ dance floor, by Sandra was with US, the unknows at the show. That's MY kind of celebrity…
I don't know, she can eat crackers in my…ah, forget it, that's not gonna happen.
Critize Aptow and Tarantino at your peril for their fan boys are legion and smell of spoilt cheese.
Better to go for yourself in the Real World than sell-out and be #1 at the box office in a World of Make -Believe and Illusion.
This is ridiculous. Just because she was in a movie doesn't mean it wasn't sexist. She posed for Maxim, and if asked she'd probably tell you that Maxim is sexist too. Here is a thought, maybe she can recognize sexism and not be offended by it. GASP!
Good lord…
When someone finally cracks open the vault underneath… wherever y'all imagine it to be… and find the remains of the Secret Post-Soviet Communist Plot To Do Whatever People Imagine It's Out To Do; I'll be curious to see where "Take down blonde chick from Grey's Anatomy" is listed on the priorities list. Yeesh…
Heigl is an extraordinarily beautiful woman with incredibly limited range as an actress (she can basically do "happy" or "bawling like a three year-old, thats it) who's arrived with way too much hype thanks to working with TV/film-makers like Apatow who can basically make ANYONE sound clever. That's about it.
My secular liberal friends will often wonder how I can possibly be "on the same side" as people who don't believe in evolution. My answer is that someone's belief or non-belief in evolution has no effect on my life. On the other hand, someone's belief in Global Warming has a direct effect on what I can and cannot do.
"But how do you not let the two mix when you spend 10 hour days pretending to be someone else?"
I'd like to live in your world.
I've always said the entertainment media doesn't help because, most of the time, they're the ones asking the questions! An actor may not care about an election but when Letterman or an Access Hollywood lackey asks, "Who are you voting for?" it kinda puts a spotlight on them. At least Ms. Heigl admits it's not her thing and even Shia Lebouf (sp?) said on one of the late-night shows that he was voting for Obama but that it was his choice and didn't wish to influence anyone else.
If I ever become famous and a talk show host asks me that, I'm gonna use my stock answer: "I'm writing in the name Sledge Hammer."
Thanks for the background info Leigh. It explains quite a bit.
However, you forgot to list Heigl's biggest sin: she starred in a movie where a woman chose to keep an unwanted baby.
"'ll be curious to see where 'Take down blonde chick from Grey's Anatomy' is listed on the priorities list."
It is probably right below "Take down Idaho-born rube ex-governor from Alaska who is so stupid and irrelevant that we have to spend all our resources to destroy her."
THIS is funny.
As for Ms. Heigl, why did she star in "The Ugly Truth," which is horrific?
Hey Leigh, I can help with your casting you have Brun Hillary and the Boxer Beast, …scary man, scary! “The Parasites that Killed America.”
"Classic AMERICAN beauty."
AMEN.
I haven't really followed her career since she was on Roswell (I don't watch GA) but I was knocked over by how beautiful she was/is. Truth be told I liked her better back then when she still carried a little bit of baby fat. I thought she was the closest thing to Marilyn Monroe that I have ever seen.
Always glad to read a positive inference to our "Texas gal" Sandy Bullock. She adopted my second hometown of Austin and we adopted her…early on when she had just moved here I was attending a show at the legendary Antone's in downtown Austin (yes I'm old enough to remember the other locations, particularly the one up by U.T.) and in front of me is Sandra Bullock in jeans and a tee. Wowwy. What a doll. Antone's has a VIP box away from the sweathogs and craziness that can be Antone's standing room area/ dance floor, but Sandra was with US, the unknows at the show. That's MY kind of celebrity…
Wow, article reaking of stupidity. I had no idea that she smoked, did Maxim, was born a Mormon, doesn't "fit the mold"(?) or whatever. Being rude to your employers when they did nothing wrong AND are paying you big bucks is just stupid and ungrateful.
Actually, she played Ryback's niece. Ryback's brother was her father, a deceased war veteran.
Also, I read the FHM article (in which she also posed very sexually and beautifully), she mentions that when Segal wanted to "know her better", her mother gave Segal a warning in regards to his "curiousity". Segal was rumored to be notorious for having a "casting couch" problem.
So defending the radical feminists, eh? What have they done for you my dear?
Name ONE thing that they have done for women in a positive light.
Just because Katy Heigl doesn't represent your ideal actress/celebrity, there are those like her that need to have the slack cut from them. And, then there are those who deserve scorn and ridicule because they maintain and want RELEVANCE.
thanks for the tips- you are, of course, correct…
we have a relative who worked with Seagal on one of his later films and he claimed him to be a real 'tool'- arrogant, distant and uberprivileged.
However, in his defense (and this is a lame offering) he was a man of stature in the martial arts community long before he became an actor and we have it on good authority that he did some work for the Company when he was in Japan. Only Occidental to run a dojo there as well. So, he does (did?) have some street cred. That doesn't excuse his poor behavior, but gives some character insight as to why he would feel somewhat superior to other Hollywood types.
And he is very good at Aikido, and it is the strongest form of self defense in martial arts, so there's that…
good reply! (and the FHM cover was spectacular, wasn't it?)
Quite a good article, but one point: I'm pretty confident it isn't physically possible for anyone (or anything) to smoke more than Mr. Hitchens.
