We Need More Diversity!
by Leigh ScottThe “Deity-in-Chief” went to Cairo last week to address the Muslim world. Others have pointed out that Egypt is an odd place for such an address: Saudi Arabia is home to the holiest places in Islam and Indonesia is the home of the world’s largest Muslim population. If this is correct, this would be like going to London to make a pandering speech to Catholics to address the actions of the I.R.A. I’ll give you a break to have another sip of coffee and sort that one out in your head.
Ok, you’re back. This whole “outreach” got me thinking. It’s actually a good idea. To tailor policy around making sure people don’t feel alienated and left out. To change the national agenda in order to protect the sensitivities of people, even if those sensitivities go against what is traditional and accepted thought in our country. Can I get an “Amen” from the Hippies? This is what it’s all about, right?
Let me introduce you to another group…another alien culture that I think needs to get a little “outreach” from the government…especially the elites in D.C. Hollywood, Europe and the academic world could also do a little better when it comes to making these people feel special. We need more diversity! More diversity!
Their culture may seem a little strange. Some may consider it “backwards” but follow me…
These people attend their houses of worship regularly. There are many different sects, but they are all similar. The level of devotion varies from individual to individual. Some are very strict, viewing their holy book as the direct word of God. Others view it as more of a spiritual relationship. Some see it as a social thing, attending services only on the highest of holy days.
Their families are close and tight knit. They don’t like “outsiders” interfering with the education of their children. They are also none to pleased about the influence of perverse Hollywood “entertainment” on their little ones. They are frugal and view the taking of their money and property very, very seriously. It is an “insult” to tax them or take money from them without good reason. This tradition goes back centuries for them. Many of their tribal “elders” fought and died over this very issue.
They value education, but don’t think a degree is the only measure of a man or woman. They value hard, tedious work. Many of them take pride in their jobs on farms, in factories, and in offices. This is a tradition and a set of values passed down from generation to generation.
They are particular to foods that many consider “bad” or unhealthy. Red meat, fast food, fried food. They actually eat all of them…sometimes at the same time. They even have a rich history of actually killing the food themselves instead of buying it at Whole Foods!
They like guns. They like big, mean, nasty V-8 engines. They like trucks and SUVs. They like motorcycles. They like state fairs where you can buy roasted corn on the cobb and ride on a rinky dink Ferris wheel. They like outdoor sports. They even have sports that really aren’t sports, like Monster Truck Shows.
To celebrate happy occasions they often times drink alcohol. Sometimes they drink alcohol when they are depressed. One of their favorites is beer. They actually make beer in this country and these people drink it…in cans! They drink in bars but they call them “taps” and “taverns.”
Some of them enjoy an ancient tradition of burning bits of tobacco and inhaling the fumes. Some chew this tobacco.
They listen to country music and what is called “butt rock.” If you want to see one smile just put a dollar in the honky tonk jukebox and pick a song by ZZ Top. Then watch them sing by following it up with a track from Tim McGraw.
They live all over the country. Milwaukee, Dallas, Omaha, Bakersfield. Every city has them.
Proudly, I am one of them.
Some call us “white trash.” Others use the term “redneck.” I have a better one. One that is politically correct. It’s the one we choose to call ourselves…Americans. In fact, I would like to officially declare that it is offensive, unacceptable, cause for firing, and “racist” for any person who is not part of the aforementioned group to ever use the term “redneck” or “white trash.” We of course are free to call each other whatever we want.
So how about it D.C.? Hollywood? Europe? Can we show these people a little more respect? What about diversity? Can we think about how our words and new laws and taxes may insult them? Can Obama come to Biloxi and address the “Redneck” nation? Can he explain himself on our terms?
Wait, come to think of it, he’ll probably make the speech somewhere in Connecticut. Oh, well, I gave up on that dude a long time ago…

Bravo, that was one great article. Ted Nugent rocks and is not afraid to call himself an American.
Refreshingly unapologetic. I love Ted Nugent.
wang dang sweet poontang!
In 1967 as a wee tot, we first heard Ted with the Amboy Dukes doing 'Journey to Center of the Mind'. It was, and still is,one of the great hard rock guitar solos of all time… and his unapologetic take on American exceptionalism and rugged individulism drives lefties nuts…
We love it.
Don't be silly. Diversity isn't about thoughts, culture and ideas. It's about skin pigmentation.
I must correct you on one thing. I think he is known as either "Uncle Ted" in person or in print as "The Ted". I think i read that in a style book somewhere.
—"Can we show these people a little more respect? "
You aren't going to get any Liberal respect until you change your skin color and start setting bombs off. It's the only things these Liberals appear to respect– skin color and violence.
(This is not a endorsement of violence of any kind, nor of changing your skin color).
Ok, thanks for the redstate polka there dude.
Now to the business at hand, all of us saps living out here in redstateville are about to get sacked by the Visigoths and Huns in Washington D.C., they have grabbed our car companies, some of our banks, and pretty much told us that they are bigger than big business. But they don't make anything . How are they gonna cars ?
How do they know how to loan money to, and who not to ?
How can they resist playing kleptocrat when there's 800 billion in "stimulus" money floating around and no one has read the bill and no one knows where it's supposed to go ??
How can all of redstate crackers stop this ?? What we need are ideas and organization.
I personally can't wait to see my first Republican Community Organizer .
Ok, I have never heard of "butt rock" before, ever. lol…
to us he is simply Ted; he is a local boy and we knew both him (not very well, mind you) but knew his mom as well… 'Ma' Nugent wrote a column in a rock publication we too wrote for… so we claim exclusive rights to the moniker 'Ted'…
Obama refuses to speak to Governor of Nevada, and dealers of Chrysler and GM put out of business. Now Obama also refuses to talk to Fox News reporters.
Great stuff! LIke everyone else I am still waiting for Our Leader to cast a lofty and understanding gaze at my wretchedly parochial Mid-West culture and values. Oh wait – He did that during his fundraising junket in San Fransisco last year. I'm in the file drawer marked "Ignorant Fear-Obsessed Bible-Banging Dullard." Well it's always nice to know you have a place in life. If anyone out there wants some rueful chuckles look up Robert Ferrigno's short piece called "Missing Rush Limbaugh." It appears in the April/2008 National Review and was a "look ahead" to the Obama presidency. In it a deflated Bill Clinton has been appointed "Ambassador to the Heartland" because he seems the natural choice to explain Obama's policies to the yokels of Middle America. Well, I'm gonna finish off my jug of corn squeezins and go out and slop the hogs.
Hey I live in CT – no fair! I'm a conservative trapped in a liberal wasteland. There are more of us "Americans" here than you think. We're trying, really we are, to remove the entrenched liberal idiots and get some new blood in there.
We may never be a red state, but we may be purple. Someday. Even if it's only in my dreams.
Ted's Stranglehold is classic and love them Dukes. It's time for big Fox to put on the Ted Nugent variety Show. He could start with his rant of the week, followed by Zo and Crowder doung an ala Ralph and Norton Sketch, then show how to field dress an alpaca and make a savory stew, sandbag Senators and Congressmen and make them look like whirling turds, interspersed with some kick-butt R & R. This could be a panacea for the confused and huddled masses.
The "NOOOOOGE" is a great guy and excellent musician. And there are millions of fellow Americans of a like mind. We just need to be as bold and forthcoming about what we believe as The NOOOOOGE.
I wonder how long before this administration targets Uncle Ted for being as outspoken as he is.
Plain middle class/poor white people need an advocacy organization in order to draw attention their needs. How about NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Caucasian People)
Although Ted takes his share of sniping from the Left I've always been surprised that he doesn't get a lot more. After all as an unapologetically pro-American, pro-hunting, rock star outdoorsman you would think he would be slammed by the MSM punditocracy as regularly as Rush Limbaugh. Maybe the fact that he is heavily armed has something to do with it.
I guess I fit the bill. Nugent´s double live album was one of my very first albums. Still great. On top of that, I saw ZZ Top just a couple of weeks ago.
Probably right after they ban all firearms in the US.
I vote with you, Jack. Fox needs to create the Ted Nugent Variety Show! Please oh please oh please oh please!
Yeah good luck with that!!
I'm surprised too. Uncle Ted comes off as an extremist, until you pay attention to what he has to say.
I think it has more to do with Uncle Ted's ability to defend his position and make a sound argument against what is happening to our country. I also think that the MSM knows this about him and is reluctant to give him a national audience because he will undoubtedly convince more than a few people on the fence that he is right about a great many things. They would plan on an ambush and Ted would turn the tables on whomever is attacking him in said interview.
He cannot be marginalized and they know it. Long Live Uncle Ted!!!!
Except not all of us are Caucasian…
How about NAAWNHP (National Association for the Advancement of White (Non-Hispanic) People…. Well I gues that would be too long…
He probably doesn't get more from the left because they are afraid of Ted and the heat he might be packing… Doesn't mean that he would actually threaten anyone…. they are just scared enough to simply THINK he will… :/ Because afterall anyone that advocates gun-rights is violent on the inside according to the left.
OH NOEZ TED NUGENT HAS A GUN. I IZ SCARED LIBERAL. I THINKZ TED MAY HURTZ ME.
Leigh, my heart goes out to your people. Your ways, though primitive, seem more noble.
I think I'll agitate for the creation of an American Studies department at my local university.
Thanks Mr Scott but we have more than enough diversity. What we need is a little commonality and self respect.
[...] We Need More Diversity! by Leigh Scott [...]
I like "Uncle Ted"! I've always called him just The Nuge.
Whatever you call him, he rocks, kicks ass and takes names!!! I LOVE HIM!!
I'll third this!!
Wouldn't Ted be awesome on Red Eye too? Man, he'd fit right in.
Excellent article. A great big YEE HAW! for Ted Nugent. I think it is funny that the MSM/Liberals think that all Southerners are ignorant, toothless rednecks. So as not to disappoint, I always through in a lot of "ding dangs" and "yee haws" in my comments on the internet. LOL
We are ALL Americans. Some of us just love the Constitution a little bit more than others.
"Because afterall anyone that advocates gun-rights is violent on the inside according to the left."
Which goes to show the left's complete misunderstanding of firearms. Guns rely heavily on personal responsibility, a concept the left can't grasp. To them, anyone that owns a gun is just itching to use it on something small and defenseless.
Two words: "I won"
Amen to that.
Everytime some idiot shoots someone else the typical knee-jerk reaction by the left is to ban guns because guns are evil.
Reminds me of the movie Shane, "A gun is just a tool". But the left wants to blame the gun for the shooting instead of the person holding it.
That won't fly when the brownshirts come banging on doors though.
Michael Jackson changed his skin color and made some real bombs, but that didn't seem to help him. Just sayin'…
AMEN to that!
And you can bet Obama won't be showing any kind of outreach to us. He has made it very clear that he despises people like us. (You know, the sorts who bitterly cling to their guns and religion.)
Oh hell yeah Leigh! I to am a “Flyover-American,” and damn proud of it, ha. Terrible Ted telling it like it is unabashed love of country. Barry’s already stated that he finds the country boring, only the urban life matters.
Leigh, where is this strange tribe of people of which you speak? I have not seen them in NYC or LA, or even DC. Do people live in the vast wildernesses in between?
Maybe we need a government grant to find and study these people?
Long live the Nooge, and me we join you in the big hunt before too long.
Blame the gun, the company that made the gun, the store that sold the gun, just not the guy who SHOT the gun. The biggest problem with gun control is it doesn't work on criminals, if they want to get a gun, there are channels you can go through. All the paperwork and permits in the world aren't going to stop a bad guy from picking up an unregistered pistol on a street corner.
I'm confused: was this written by Ted Nugent or Leigh Scott?
President Ted Nugent!!!
There are a bunch of us here in Texas, Andrew. Come on down.
Unfortunately for Ted, he like many of us, are still clinging to our guns (or arrows) and religion. This administration views diversity as the government providing economic equality for all as a natural "right." He views that untruth to be self evident.
p.s nice camo on the Tedster.
"come along if you dare"
Exactly right. Forget about personal responsibility, forget about right vs wrong.
And all one needs to know about guns and crime can be found in John Lott's excellent book: More Guns Less Crime.
In places that support the 2nd amendment, crime is statistically lower. numbers don't lie.
If you're in NYC, head west until they only have 3 kinds of coffee and stop. You have found them.
If you're in LA, take a Silkwood shower THEN head east until breast implants are only 1in 1000.
Unapologetic is a rare trait these day's isn't it? I don't think I've ever heard Ted say something controversial and then a few day's later trot out the old "My word's were taken out of context" mantra……..If "Uncle Ted" said it, he mean's it…….Gotta love the guy just for that!
Speaking as a proud red neck American….I could not have said it After seeing some of this so called fly over country, and meeting a lot of the folks that live here I can say the white trash is named Penn, Maher, Hefner, Fox, O'Donnell, you name it and they live in places called Beverly Hills, and New York City.
Agreed! Wish there were lots more people like him.
USA! USA!
(Although I'm from Connecticut: a blue-state redneck.)
USA! USA!
That is one sweet picture of Ted. Love the matching cap and shirt. I also love the article.
I used to think white, Christian males were the most hated group in the country. Letterman's performance though, demonstrates that Christian females are a very close second.
We need to give ACORN some money to venture out there and analyze these people…attempt to understand them.
Very sadistic. . . I approve. It will do the ACORNers good to get out and meet the people!
I'm a huge fan of Texas!
instead of diversity can you just take out all of the white trash, hillbilly, anti-gay, super bible-beating people in Middle America?
You're afraid of a strong woman! You guys don't have it as nearly as bad as us women. You are so immature. Do you live with your mother? You are just bitter because you can't get laid. You want to roll back the rights of women. You are going to make me cry.
Woman, you're making me hot!!
So people who live in Connecticut aren't Americans? Excuse me, but wasn't Connecticut one of the original thirteen colonies? God, I'm so sick of this ridiculous mythology that people have to somehow qualify in order to be real Americans. Newsflash: Anyone born in any of the fifty states is an American. Anyone who immigrated legally is an American. One of the many reasons I've always proud to be an American is that we're a country who openly welcomes anyone. There's no stereotypical American, since we are such a proud and diverse people. All American citizens are equally American, whether we are from Connecticut or Nebraska, New Jersey or Tennessee, California or Texas; whether we are conservative or liberal. I thought that being born in America and having lived here my whole life is what makes me an American, as well as supporting our troops and celebrating our holidays. Yet I've never particularly cared for country music or fried food – too bad, guess I'm not an American.
The american taliban strikes again.
Hey Kris, love the phrase "conservative trapped in a liberal wasteland". I may even have a bumper sticker made up with that on it. Although here in Maine I just may come out of the liquor store (after purchasing the state's favorite thirst quencher Allen's Coffee Brandy) and find my vehicle keyed all the way down the driver's side. We are trying to get rid of the liberal riff-raff here as well, but that's kind of hard to do when you live in basically a welfare state. (sigh)
I don't think Cairo was an odd place for Obama to address the Muslim world. While I was not enthusiastic about several of the statements in his speech, and I have doubts about whether we should be treating the "Muslim world" as a single community in the first place, as long as Obama was going to make this speech, Cairo was a reasonable choice for a place to make it.
While Jakarta is the largest predominantly Muslim metropolitan area in the world, it could be seen as being on the periphery of the Muslim world (both geographically and culturally), not to mention being "too easy" a place for Obama to give his speech since he lived there as a child. Cairo is the second-largest predominantly Muslim metropolitan area, and it is pretty much at the geographical center of the Arab world.
is there a such thing as a "Communist-American", and secondly, should there be?
