Time to Call Out James Cameron
by Kurt Schlichter“Relax, it’s just a movie.”
You often hear that when you step up to point out the lefty assumptions, biases and what John Nolte calls the “liberal tells” within popular entertainment. You are allowed to praise the technical achievements of an Avatar – such as they are, since many of us think it looks freakin’ stupid – but heaven forbid that you dare question the hackneyed liberal noble savage clichés that James Cameron offers up instead of a story. The message is clear – our proper role as pop culture consumers is to sit back, open our eyes, slacken our jaws and swallow Hollywood’s agenda.

But what is remarkable – and crucial – is that we are no longer passively accepting whatever Hollywood dumps on us. The backlash to Avatar’s flabby thinking and tired ideology is the new paradigm, with even reviewers outside the conservative movement slagging it for its staggering intellectual hypocrisy, cardboard military/corporate villains and sophomoric Mother Earth enviro-babblings.
This is good, because Avatar is not just a neato movie. And “Imagine” is not just a pleasant song. And Adam Lambert is not just a flamboyant artist with a powerful personal vision that transcends our hidebound, repressed notions of morality. They are all part of an agenda, and the proper response to that agenda is illumination.
The real danger is not that Hollywood preaches the tenets of its agenda – people tend to tune out preaching – but that its assumptions and values will be inculcated by osmosis and accepted simply because they are always there and no one even bothers to point them out, like ideological wallpaper. Left/liberalism first infects the political culture through popular culture, and it must work in secret to displace the values, norms and traditions – like decency, hard work, free enterprise and patriotism — that most people are still brought up to believe in. If you see, for example, enough movies where the villain is – surprise! –an evil corporation, after a while that is going to make an impression.
Look at the JFK assassination. Somehow, through the magic of popular culture, in the minds of millions of Americans the murder of a fairly conservative (by modern standards) president by a dedicated, Castro-loving communist became the martyrdom of a crusading liberal by a cabal of military/capitalist conspirators. Huh?
Don’t look for movie critics to do the job of calling out the nonsense. Most of them are in on it and always have been. Witness the unbelievably embarrassing review that liberal Roger Ebert bestowed upon 1991’s staggeringly ignorant and foolish JFK. Back then, if you weren’t reading National Review, you probably had no idea until you plopped down your money for a ticket that the staff of Pravda couldn’t have made a more anti-American film.
This backlash is something new, and it means that we no longer have to let left/liberalism be our culture’s default setting. Vitally, the internet and resources like Big Hollywood mean that we no longer need to fight alone. We can leverage our collective power to support that kid coming out of Avatar somewhere in Missouri who thought the movie looked kinda cool, but can’t help thinking that seeing all those American soldiers getting slaughtered was not something people should be cheering about. He can’t really put into words an explanation why he feels that way to his gushing friends. Now we can give him the tools to put his finger on the nagging feeling that so much of popular culture leaves him with, and we help him to articulate his response so that the next time he can say, “Wait, I’m not buying that, James Cameron.” And so he can tell his friends. And they’ll likely agree.
We are all soldiers in this fight, and popular culture is the front line.
But isn’t it a losing battle? Why be the guy who says, “Wait a sec – did that character on CSI: Miami just refer to global warming like it’s more real than leprechauns, unicorns and Blue Dog Democrat senators who vote the principles they profess?”
No, it’s not a losing battle, because the mere act of raising the issue defeats the Hollywood elite’s insidious power to infiltrate and undermine. If the viewer sees the agenda, he can evaluate it, consider it, and then decide whether to accept or reject it. That’s not a process we conservatives fear. We don’t have to disguise what we’re selling like our liberal – oops, I mean “progressive” – friends. That’s why the Hollywood elite values a discussion of its agenda like the post-1/20/09 Democrats value dissent.
We need to confront the agenda not just because we like picking apart movies – though we do enjoy holding foolishness up to ridicule – but because every time the silly ideas and clichés of the Hollywood elite pop up, someone has to be there to play cultural whack-a-mole. After all, those who send these messages succeed only through misdirection — “America sucks. Now quick, look over there at that explosion!”
And we need to respond, “Wait, America what?”
And we need to call out their nonsense every single time, whether in print or just to the pals you went with to the movies. Avatar cries out for it:
Oh, the bucolic natives are once again oppressed by the evil Americans! Nonsense! Americans have freed more people from oppression than any other group in history. The world would be an immeasurably worse place if we had not conquered North America. And the American Indians were imperfect like all human beings – some were good, some were bad, but they were certainly not the dopey, touchy-feely constructions of pure Rousseauean sweetness and light of modern Hollywood’s patronizing portrayals.
Oh, evil businessmen ruthlessly ravage mother Earth and exploit innocent Third World peoples in a greedy race for profits! Nonsense! Capitalism and market economics have done more to improve the lives of human beings than anything else. The Third World’s embrace of socialism, self-destructive cultures and through-and-through corruption are the overwhelming causes of its problems.
Oh, evil Western countries are causing climate change that will result in an environmental catastrophe! Nonsense! Global warming is a scam, a hoax and a fraud, and is less science than pagan religion. I wish it weren’t – hot weather is a great excuse to mix up some Sapphire and tonics and this cold weather we keep having is becoming a real bummer.
And Hollywood, you can peddle your oppressed visionary act to some other sucker. Nobody is saying don’t make liberal films. We’re just saying that your days of doing it in secret, of being able to get away with putting out your propaganda knowing that your secrets are safe with fellow traveling reviewers, are over.
You go ahead and make the films you want to make – many of us have fought for your right to do so. But it’s our right – and our duty – to critique you. Now you actually have to make your case, out in the open, in the global warming-amped sunlight.
You’re welcome to compete with us in the marketplace of ideas. Except we’re going to be Wal-Mart: embraced by most Americans; and you’re going to end up like Circuit City: obsolete, inflexible and ultimately bankrupt.
We’re calling you out – on your flabby arguments, your weak thinking, your stunning ignorance of history and your rank hypocrisy. We’re not going to be distracted by bright colors, loud explosions, or hi-tech gimmicks. We’re ignoring all of the hype.
So, Jimmy Cameron, tell us….
Why is capitalism – you know, the economic system that allowed you to make Avatar – so bad?
Why are primitive societies – you know, the kind you manifestly do not live in – so morally righteous?
And why are the deaths of American fighting men – you know, the folks who are keeping at bay the bastards who would saw your open-minded, tolerant, liberal head off with a butter knife given half a chance — something you think ought to bring cheers from the audience?
Hey, Jimmy, you made your stupid movie. Now we’re going to make you make your case.

"The medium is the message" on steroids.
In this sad case, the medium is imagery – vivid, synapse scorching, 3-D IMAX imagery.
I bet Cameron's working title was "Militarized cowboy capitalists VS mutant tree hugging smurfs in a revisionist galaxy far, far-away in order to prove that peace is war is war is peace is bad – except when it's good to kill all the militarized cowboy capitalist."
And do the alien nasty.
My head hurts.
.
"Back then, if you weren’t reading National Review, you probably had no idea until you plopped down your money for a ticket that the staff of Pravda couldn’t have made a more anti-American film."
My problem with "JFK" is not that it was anti-American. After all, Oliver Stone could argue, somewhat plausibly, that his movie defended true-blue American ideals as a bulwark against the anti-American Military-Industrial Complex that has taken over Washington, or whatever. That's of course only plausible if Stone's facts and speculation are correct, which they are not. As such, my problem with "JFK" is that, as regards facts, it's anti-truth and, as regards speculation, it's anti-common sense.

… yeah dude, stock up on that tin foil. Don't let that secretive, conspiratorial, liberal, illumanati agenda creep up on you!!!
Hahahah you nut job.
So, if you had the technology and the budget, what kind of plot would you wanted Avatar to have?
[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Big Hollywood, Michael Chavez and DNC DUDES, Mr. Pink. Mr. Pink said: Time to Call Out James Cameron http://tinyurl.com/yf8sm4s [...]
Well said. I can watch a movie like Avatar, ignore the lefty message, and decide on the special effects alone that it ain't the best ever. As can my grown children. But we're into the second or third generation of young people who get little or no grounding in reality at home, and believe what they believe based largely on public school indoctrination and popular culture (the movies included). So we can relax about the left-wing, eco-freak, anti-American messages only when we're the only ones doing the viewing. Allowing the movies to go uncriticized that are relentlessly wrong-headed is not a genuine option. I've been yelling back at the movie screen ever since the Charlie Sheen narrative at the end of Platoon.
I am that kid in Missouri, except for the part about seeing Avatar. I didn't bother in the first place.
Spot on. The one thing my liberal friends all have in common is the lack of critical thinking. They "believe" what they're told to believe and like robots, until the "leadership" points them in the right direction, they are like kittens wandering around in the desert — it's a big sandbox but just where do I pee? Witness the neighbor who was raving that she was going to vote for McCain right after he nominated Palin (she's a feminist), but two weeks later after she'd gotten her marching orders, she had an Obama sticker on her car. A few days ago on Facebook a woman in my neighborhood posted that Sarah Palin is ridiculous. How does she know? Does she know Ms. Palin? Has she lived in Alaska? Does she know any Alaskans? Nope, but her controllers tell her so, and like a good trained parrot she says she wants a cracker. Liberals are like Borgs –and, like Borgs, make very useful idiots.
I had a pretty good idea about the plot–and alleged liberal agenda–before I saw the movie. So I went in and tried to watch it from the perspective that Ribisi was an Andrew Jackson type character, the Colonel was sort of a Nathan Bedford Forrest, Sully was an Abe Lincoln, Sigorney Weaver was a Whig or Republican, and the Na'vi were American Indians. That is, the evil corporation represents democrats. I don't think that there is anything inconsistent in my interpretation. And one other thing, I didn't think that the Na'vi were primitive, rather highly organized with sophisticated networks.
While your trashing a fantasy film with a plot so simple it's been the substance of stories for thousands of years you might as well throw out your bible too because if you read it you're not going to like it. If filled with hundreds of stories just like this. David and Goliath, Queen Esther and Purim. the story of Passover.
You need some serious help pal.
As the wife of a soldier, I can most assuredly say I would tell HIS story had I the chance, the one that involves brave men and women fighting to make better this world of ours even and despite so many insisting to them their fight is the wrong one, as if they should be ashamed of removing an evil dictator and his repugnant sons from power in an oppressed land.
I can tell you why they think America sucks. Not why they think it does, but why they think it does.
I know that doesn't make sense, but when dealing with modern liberals, you should not be using sense. It will just make your head hurt.
Because America is pinnacle of civilization, the strongest, the richest, the best, it allows modern liberals the luxury of lounging around their stylish homes, with HDTV's in nearly every room, Saabs & BMWs in the driveway, and ponder why their life sucks so much. So unlike say 70% of the world's population they don't have to worry about things like famines, pandemics, war, homelessness, crushing poverty and the like.
So they have to invent dangers to give meaning to their lives. Global warming, Marxism, H1N1 & avian & seasonal flu.
This hatred of America is a direct result of America's greatness. Ironic, ain't it?
Propaganda works best on the unsuspecting uneducated mind – The Teenager – this movie is excellent propaganda. Particularly insidious around the holidays, I wonder will this movie be shown in Iran? I've convinced many not to see it by using the "why would you pay to see an overgrown smurf?" Hollywood use to be on the side of the good old USA; we need to get this part of the media back on the right side.
I can't speak to Avatar since I haven't seen it yet but, in the case of JFK, I still think the whole conspiracy angle makes for an interesting story. That tons of people subsequently treated the film as gospel, however, is disappointing.
In Cameron's case, I recently read this: http://carpetbagger.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/12/21/...
Q. Have you gotten any criticism that the film might be perceived as anti-American?
A. It’s something that I’ve anticipated the possibility of because people will misinterpret things in certain ways. You can almost count on people misinterpreting things. The film is definitely not anti-American. It’s not anti-human either. My perception of the film is that the N’avi represent that sort of aspirational part of ourselves that wants to be better, that wants to respect nature. And the humans in the movie represent the more venal versions of ourselves, the banality of evil that comes with corporate decisions that are made out of remove of the consequences.
So if he doesn't believe it's anti-American, then he doesn't think he's done anything wrong. I'm sure there's a teaching moment here somewhere (and I say this as a huge fan).

Yeah, except we were told that the invasion had something to do with WMD and/or 9/11. Either way, I don't think that such a movie would justify a $300 million shooting budget.
I do indeed hope that your husband is safe.
wow i googled avatar and stumbled upon this angry rambling and i just have to laugh. you stretch the messages of avatar to fit your own agenda. its not american forces fighting on pandora, its a multi-national contigent of guns for hire(support our mercs?).while this movie maybe a bit heavy handed in its leftist leanings in terms of environmentalism whats wrong with a message about preserving nature? you either clearly havent seen the movie and are speaking from what youve HEARD or youre just banking on the fact that the people who read your garbage wont have seen it out of disgust. i mean you blow it out of proportion. take it for what it is: is destroying a people and their habitat for monetary gain good or bad? i fail to see where he takes a dig at capitalism, imperialism yes but are you a fan of that? and the part where you claim global warming is a pagan religion made me laugh too, mr scientist. there are plenty more movies with much more damaging subtexts in them other than "lets try to protect the environment" and "capitalism without human compassion is as evil as any market system".Artard.
The shark's review-
Avatar – A mutated strain of the Blue Flu. Infecting loony toon liberals and azzhat airheads everywhere. Technocreepy special effects. Wow! 3-D! Dumb, Deceptive and Dismal progressively trite entertainment for sheeple.
Hear, hear! I saw this retarded piece of crap last night and I knew it was a piece the moment I saw sigourney weaver walk out in a stanford college t… I mean I really felt I had to be at least 15 years younger and 15 years stupider (I'm 23).
Is that Douche in Seattle? Liberalism is falling off the cliff as the lie that it is. Hope you're near the edge when it does.
bro youre the biggest idiot on here
It doesn't stop them from collecting that elusive American dollar while in the same breath, complaining about capitalism.
The sad thing is that the idea that destroying a non-American habitat for monitary gain is something that *some* people here might be on board with.
The vast stretches of uninhabitable land polluted by oil companies in Nigeria for instance.
The present grosses for “Avatar” are dominated by the overseas ticket sales, which isn’t surprising since you have to work hard not to see the story as anti-American propaganda. So, as a country, we are in a position of manufacturing and selling the best and most technologically advanced ideological implements of our own destruction.
Call them out for it? H*ll yes!
do you know mrs. palin, do you know she is NOT ridiculous? the thing i like about YOU is your lack of critical thinking.
Even without a heavy-handed liberal message, I'm tired of mega-budget special effects with a dollar store script.
Juvenile name calling, that all you got?
so your holiday wasnt as good as mine! sucks for you buddy!
Nut job reporting for duty!
It's always instructive when name-calling is substituted for a rebuttal of an argument. If you disagree, why don't you tell us why? Maybe you could show us where the author has used inaccurate facts, irrational thought, or mis-represented reality …
Instead we get, "I've read a little of what you've written, but it doesn't fit with my inherited world-view, so I won't even attempt to respond. Poopy head!"
but then its not avatar its jarhead and that movie sucked
Disagree with what? Where WAS the constructive argument or point? The original post was nothing BUT insults.
I don't think I was ever a liberal. Just apolitical. I couldn't see any logic in it. Their arguments are nothing more than I can get from listening to my 8 year old niece cry about not getting ice cream.
hahah revisionist galaxy!revisionist as in making up a planet ala EVERY SCIENCE FICTION MOVIE EVER. oh look at me i use big words to make my statement valid haha! i bet your mother's working title for your name was "retard"
You'll never change the mind set of the Camerons in Hollywood They're true men of the world or in Camerons case the Universe. They're above petty nationalism or any of those ism's except Capitalism when it works with and for them. Socialism and Communism they like to flirt with it. Makes them feel noble, getting down with the peeps and all that. They don't want to live under it. It's OK if you and I do but it's not for them. They maybe ingrates but they're not fools.Actually they are but I'm letting that go for now. So to put it crassly you're shoveling sh*t against the tide if you think they'll ever see the light.. The one thing we can do and that speaks volumes to them is not to spend our money on their crapola projects. That gets their attention. It's a message they hear loud and clear and so do the money people who back them.
thats all thats needed here. alright fine. NUH-UH ITS NOT ABOUT SMURFS HUR HUR
There is a form of logic to it, but I should really say ill-logic. I've read Marx, Engels, Lenin, and its all a very circular logic. A = B therefore B = C therefore C = D and that's why D = A.
That's why talking to these people makes no sense. In order to embrace it, you need to ignore logic, and simply take as gospel what they say.
And when people don't, the communists reach for the guns, the socialists reach for the police, and the modern liberals reach for the government. We need to be forced to forget reason and just accept it.
So, yeah – I work with a 19-year old girl who saw "Avatar" last night.
She's a Conservative – and she loved it!
"What the FRELL?!" I asked her.
She just rolled her eyes and told me to relax, that it was just a movie, there wasn't any kind of message.
Sipping the Kool-Aid, perhaps?
My 18-year-old high school senior son went to the midnight show, as he and his buddies were so anxious to see this film.
When I asked him the next day how it was (and I knew NOTHING about it except there were blue people in it) he shrugged and said he really didn't like it because the subtle underlying message was anti-American.
I'm SO PROUD that he "gets it" — even at the tender age of 18. Now he has a lifetime to do something about it!!
Ah, yes. "Ridicule" from Dan in Seattle. The old standard that's supposed to shut us all up. Alinsky rule #5.
I agree with your formula completely. It's circular and a lot of times, pointless to argue with those who come up with easily refutable points. Because they come back with another one. It's fun to piss them off though. And not very hard for the open minded class. The Liberals snd Socialists are getting closer to each other these days.
Hey, M. Crites will nail you for not addressing his salient points.
whats up TODDD or is that more like retodd? oh no its retard, sorry. i can excuse your idoicy now
Glad to know there are 18 year olds that haven't been polluted. I was losing faith.
Thanks for making my point.
I want to know when someone is going to call him out for essentially COPYING the animated movie "Fern Gulley" and calling it his own.
I have to deal with people like "Dan" every time I post on sites like http://www.filmschoolrejects.com. They worship these self rightous asses as if even their farts are pure gold. They love every anti american, anti war film that comes about because they are too stupid to see the symbolism that is staring them in the face. The classic response I get from tools like Neil Miller is that the acting was outstanding and you have to look beyond the subject matter of the movie. Twenty year old guys telling me I don't know anything about movies or diretors when they were watching cartoons while I was taking in master pieces like Patton and The Longest Day. These self same kids think Michael Bay is the best director on the planet because he blows stuff up better than anyone else. Never mind that his movies storylines sound like an 8 year old wrote the script.
Exceot for the fact that the bible is thousands of years ols and has a lot of back story to keep it going. You want to know where avatar came from? Go look up Ferngully, or Battle for Terra and not to mention Dances with Wolves and then tell me how original it is.
David you are a tool.
Yeah never mind that they are all speaking english with american accents and using MARINES as their enforcers.
Logic, its not just something Vulcans say.
ah yes, clever wit, something everyone thinks is uniquely theirs.
Laura, you have done a great job brain washing your 18 year old son. You should be proud.
socialists and communists are mortal enemies. Socialists believe in using the ballot box to seize the power of government to force the bourgeoisie to subsidize the proletariat.
Communists believe that socialism only prevents the impending people's revolution where the proletariat seizes power from the bourgeoisie. Hence the animosity between Nazi socialists and Russian communists during WWII. Fascism, in my opinion, is just an off shoot from socialism, where the government goes the extra step in controlling the population.
When communism and fascism were revealed as not only false ideologies, but truly horrid crimes against humanity, they changed their names to socialists and liberals, and infiltrated those movement.
Now that they've thoroughly trashed that name, they've moved on to liberals. Nothing new, same old rehashed trash with new names. They're just about finished trashing that label, so now its on to progressive.
That's why I prefer to use the term 'modern liberal' to avoid shaming true liberals like Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Madison and the rest. They don't deserve to be associated with what passes for modern liberalism.
Kurt, this is exactly what I said in response to someone else's comment on another article that "it's just a movie" and that our comments weren't going to change the minds of the Lefties anyway. And you have, at much greater length, and in much better prose, explained exactly why we need to point these things out and that ultimately, I was right – we aren't trying to change the hearts and minds of those that have drunk too deeply of the Kool-Aid. I would say most of them are lost, especially the leaders since they want the power and refuse to give it up. No, it's the impressionable minds of young people, the complacent and the apathetic that have been fed this crap for years.
I remember seeing JFK in college, when I was stupid, and thinking how horrific if it was true. But thankfully, I had not drunk too deeply of the Kool-Aid. I only took a few sips. To my core, I was always conservative, I just didn't know it or how to articulate it. And I'm sure most people, given the chance to really mull over their values and beliefs, would amazingly discover that they, too, are conservative or libertarian or a little bit of both. In sum, they would understand that they really do want limited gov't and more individual liberty and more personal responsibility. They've just been tricked into thinking those things don't mean what they really mean.
I mean, how many times do I randomly read how "fascism" is a "right wing ideology". It's WRONG. 100% wrong. But how many people believe that because the lie has been told over and over as Goebbels said, and now it has become "truth".
We are living in Orwellian times. Americans better start waking up. Those of us who have taken the red pill need to get the word out to the others. We need to start handing out red pills as often as we can. We need to unplug our fellow Americans from the Democrat Matrix.
Excellent, excellent article, Kurt. Just wonderful.
Instead of the EVIL CORPORATIONS, why not keep the initial plot, Jake Sully, Avatar, blah blah blah, then instead of it being America as the oppressive regime trying to wipe them out, it is an alien species that is the Na'vis sworn enemy. Ipso facto, America allies with the Na'vi, defeats the enemy, and the Na'vi are so grateful, they let us mine on an area of the planet not inhabited by anything. We all make kissy face friends with the natives and all is well. BAM!
You know, it would have been a shorter movie if they had just nuked the planet from orbit, just to be sure.
"We’re calling you out – on your flabby arguments…"
Speaking of which, its time to call out the flabby arguments by the bloggers at Big Hollywood!
Thanks a great breakdown. I was about to say that they've trashed the word liberal so much that they moved on to progressive.
in what? idioicy? well thanks laura for plopping out another moron!
Actually, nimrod, the poster did not give any opinion one way or another about Palin. The question was asked: How does that woman know if Palin is 'ridiculous" or not? Where are the FACTS to back up the conclusion?
Maybe everyone should be forced to learn how to write like good lawyers do – you need to have facts and law to back up your conclusions. You liberals just don't understand that; or if you do, you blatantly ignore it and insist on making sure everyone else is silenced so that you can have your way.
Where is YOUR critical thinking and reading comprehension?
i cant believe you made a matrix pun out of your whole post. please, start handing out pills on the street.
Laura, you should be glad he didn't turn out like david. Somewhere there's a mom wishing there was a condom around.
yeaaaaaaah boiiiiiii. this article was slapped together so haphazardly yet it immediately attracts a ton of idiots saying "omg thats what i was thinking about avatar!"
You're most welcome.
A few years ago when I ran out of reading material, I pulled this off my shelf.
http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Works-Marxism-art...
Following Sun Tzu's advice, know your enemy. Very enlightening. Especially the forward before each essay. I made it through Lenin, but was only on the intro to Stalin when I got bored. I'll go back and finish it up later. I stall have Stalin and Mao.
AMEN!!!
marine is a general term for a amphibious-based military organization. could be dutch could be latvian. logic, its whats for dinner
Oof. "Avatar" made $16 million…on a friggin' Monday.
I don't even like the movie that much, but man…Schlicter, your s**t is out of luck. And not for the first time.
That's lesson number one and two in debating modern liberals.
1) Change the subject.
2) Change the definition of words.
To the modern liberal the definition of racism is any one who disagrees with them.
Example:
C: I have serious problems with the Senate health care bill.
L: You are racist (storm out because they wouldn't dare waste their time even talking to a non-modern liberal).
By calling you a racist they have changed the subject from health care male-form, to what a racist you are, and by storming from the room, they have ended the debate entirely.
Purely a trick in order to avoid having to face a reasonable, logical debate.
They ain't that hard to figure out. I'm surprised the right hasn't figured that out by now.
Gee, sounds like you did an Avatar marathon. Two or three showings a day? Did you blow your whole weekly allowance on them? Your eyeballs must be spinning almost as fast as your brain. Give us a call when you come back down from your masturbatory fantasy.
Liberalism isn't logical. It's just blaming someone else for you getting in trouble, yelling over someone who you disagree with, calling names when you can't make rational points, etc. Most on the right know it, but the powers that be bury their heads in the sand to avoid ruffling feathers. Bush always tried to get along with them. People who, I'm sure some, would like to have seen him dead. Liberals aren't nice people. No matter how many rainbow stickers and smiley face bumper stickers they put on their old beat up Volvos.
You forgot to go "Nyahh-nyahh-na-naaah-naaah" stick your thumbs in your ears, wiggle your fingers at us and then blow a raspberry. We need your whole message if it's to be effective against actual logic, common sense and reasoned arguments.
Does your mommy know you got onto her computer again and are bothering people? That child lock is on there for a reason. You need to go read a book or two.
Thanks for proving the point of this post.
People are so used to the brainwashing of the culture that they don't even realize they ARE brainwashed.
I cannot speak to the movie itself because I haven't seen it, but if what I've read about it is true, these are the types of people that trouble me the most! Here's a movie that (again, supposedly) spits on everything we stand for, and yet that doesn't bother some people and they run right out and support it financially, just because it's shiny and pretty?
I just don't get that!
David and Goliath was about the corrupt Military fighting noble savages? Huh, guess you are just too sophisticated for me, emphasis on the sophist part.
Does anyone here suspect that media matters has hired a bunch of monkeys to pound on key boards all day long in the hopes of finding a lucid thought?
I think MM is going to need more bananas
Thank you, Big Hollywood, for giving me hope. The people that drive me the most insane are the so-called Christians and/or conservatives who do watch and support all this stuff and say, "It's only a movie." As you illustrate so clearly here, there's no such thing as only a movie. These lies have become the default mindset of our culture, so that people don't even realize they're watching lies anymore.
We have to fight back!
Why, because she's taught him to spot lies when he sees them?
David Ehrenstein, is that you?
Especially some anonymous hack who can't form a complete sentence.
Modern liberals come in many different categories, but I generally lump them into 3.
1) Basic person off the street, friends, neighbors, co-workers who aren't really concerned with the depth of most issues, because frankly they're too busy living life. If you have a reasoned debate with one, they'll usually admit, they haven't really though it all the way through. These people are reachable. Do not write them off – educate them.
2) Academia, union bosses, back room party officials, a good chunk of Hollywood, the ones who spout it, but would never dare think of subjecting themselves to any of this. Self righteous, pompous asses. It's a waste of time even talking to this type. "Move along Douglas."
3) Top of the gut pile. The people raking in millions, billions, and are working on trillions. These are the evil ones. I don't think I need to lay out any examples here (AL GORE), they are pretty obvious.
Level three runs the democratic party, the unions, the real big money and power in politics. They crank out the talking points and policy, they feed it tow category 2 modern liberals, and they flood category 1 liberals with it. Category 1 is busy, they hear it on the news, see it in the paper, it's presented as if every one already thinks that way, and you have a movement.
The web site Media Matters and the Huff Po are perfect examples in efficiency.
Do you feel like a rebel, Dave? Does being a troll give your seemingly droll life the slightest hint of importance?
You're such a hero for the liberal cause.
Actually the last part was pretty straight forward.
The rest is I assume a crack induced rant of some kind.
Objection, your honor! Relevancy…
You are almost too stupid to be real. This is like a Beckett story reading out before my very eyes.
I try to give credit where credit is due. The one's who are vile definitely know who they are. I don't want to lump all under that umbrella and it would be easy to do but not right. There are people I know who call themselves liberal but sound more right wing than Rush Limbaugh when talking to them. They're usually Democrats because their family has always been. I'd say 2 and 3 of your categories are the ones to keep our eyes on. They are out for one thing – themselves.
"capitalism without human compassion is as evil as any market system"
Any successful market system lacks human compassion because it doesn't play favorites. The free market is not compassionate, but it works.
ROFLMAO…
Reading this thread is almost exhausting because of the fanboy response. And it's like this on any site that dares to offer any criticism of "Avatar." I thought the "Twilight" fans were rabid– but they can't hold a candle to boys defending this movie. And the Twilighters were much better at accepting the criticisms of the film. I can't believe a movie can instill such kool-aid drinking behavior.
It's the modern day light and shadows game of the phantasmagoria. While leagues of younger people droll over the high tech CGI effects, a storyline is absorbed. However this storyline and created surreal universe graphically imprinted on the viewer with high definition clarity has a political and socio-cultural message that one must accept while in the story to move with the storyline, and thus the display.
When cornered they will say, they don't care about the politics in the movie. However later as it sinks in, they recall and even quote the storyline. That is unless they have critical thinking minds that can look through it. Sadly, there may be less of those as an emphasis on such critical thinking has been deemphasised in most K-12 public education.
Unlike the brainwashing we see from the schools video'd with the Obama praise-a-longs! When a school does it it's alright (the State). When a parent guides their flesh and blood, it's blasphemy against the State. Right?
@ToddM
I believe M. Crites was talking to Dan in Seattle. These arrows are not as clear as they should be. Perhaps a new threading system is in order.
My apologies. Sometimes when you get many levels, it's hard to see the thread order.

David; you're the same guy who saw "Waterworld" and liked it.
AVatar is so much of a crock that McDonald's has got the Happy Meal toys for it. James Cameron's movie screed on greedy corporations and Black .. er BLUE natives with … cornrows, hair-extenders and beads. They're ALIENS, how about SCALES for hair? And he's got cheesy plastic merchandising tie-ins with MCDONALDS, that EEEEVIL multinational CORPORATION.
But seriously, 15 supposed years of development with the brightest minds in Hollywood movie magic-making and they unveil a six legged blue horse? Four legs up front and two in the rear. HOW does the thing WALK? Break a leg every stride? And they have the cheek to demand a higher than average ticket price?
Spot on. "Philadelphia" – was not a liberal movie, it was about how a gay person deals with AIDs and the real life issues that affected men then and the courage to fight back. I've got personnel experience with this fight. This movie could have gone in many directions that would have made it ok – the smurfs and the marines unify to fight a worse threat, the smurfs are actually a highly advanced species that abandoned their overt use of technology and demonstrate how to create what we want out of something we have on earth, a band of terrorist go to pandora and the marines are sent in to fight with the smurfs against the terrorists . . .
Do you have the slightest idea what "revisionist" means? Hint: not the same as "fictional."
Retard.
