The Force is With Sarah Palin
by Kurt SchlichterNot to go an analogy too far, but Sarah Palin seems to be taking a page from the Hollywood playbook of George Lucas. She has just completed her own introductory trilogy, and it was an astonishing success.
First, she was a fantastically successful conservative governor lurking beneath the mainstream media’s radar. Next, she was a vice-presidential candidate who, even though she lost, still did more to electrify the base than the headliner. Third, she has now drawn the curtain on her post-election career as a sitting governor, a period that saw her deftly turn the tables on mainstream haters like David Letterman. Like “Star Wars,” she’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but her fans are rabid and chomping at the bit for the next installments. And as to these future installments, the question is whether the next step is going to be “The Phantom Menace” or something that doesn’t suck.
I’m betting on “A New Hope.” Sarah Palin has taken every hit the left and its smug media lackies can dish out – from bogus ethics claims designed to bankrupt her to attacks on her kids. Some of the haters seem to think they drove her from office, and are congratulating themselves that they have somehow driven her off the stage forever. Not quite.
Again, a “Star Wars” analogy: Remember when Darth Vader faced off with Obi-Wan Kenobi? “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine?” She’s now immune from bogus legal claims and her book will not only raise her profile but set up her family financially for life. Now Sarah is unbound, freed from the need to be up in Juneau and able to network, fundraise and even (maybe) campaign without limitation. And the modern media environment will let her do these things without even a nod to the mainstream media (Do you think Katie Couric will ever get to ask Sarah another question? Ha!)
–
Lefties, if you were responsible for her doing this, you just unleashed your strongest opponent and made her immune from your strongest attacks all at once. Ouch. It must hurt to know a woman you pride yourself on seeing as a drooling Neanderthal nitwit so thoroughly out-maneuvered you. You do see it, right?
There’s plenty of talk out there about her somehow being a “quitter” for only serving as governor for three years, as if resigning as the Chief Executive of Alaska was like cutting to the head of the women and children’s lifeboat line on the Titanic. Personally, I was unaware of the urgent moral imperative of serving out one’s full term as governor but, if it makes the lefties feel better, when she’s elected president I’m pretty confident she’ll serve a full term. Maybe even two.

Her resignation was unexpected to say the least. I have applauded everything that she has done and now I must admit I am wanting more…. I respect her decision however I am almost afraid that something is going to come out of the woodwork with her name on it……
How would this ticket sound her and Newt Gingrich? 2012…..
The first comment I heard yesterday was from a lefty co-worker," I wonder what skeleton is coming out of her closet", my reply was , one that will scare the hell out of you. Like a typical lib, they always comment before the story is complete and look like fools in the process. On another blog I post a Comrade Chaos "Bonehead play of the day". Lately, the lefties quit defending the policy of Comrade Chaos and have become pleasantly quiet. BUYERS REMORSE! I think so.
The left should be afraid, very afraid! Bring it Sarah!
i gleefully await the next step. i think the lefties are pooping themselves today.
Personally, I prefer Palin/Thompson 2012(Fred as VP, Jeri as the new head of the RNC). Having said that, there's nothing tying her to 2012 yet, and the Left can't shape the argument any more, that she's tied to the traditional 4-year election cycle. She can do whatever she wants. I'm pretty sure her next ideas will be what a lot of people want to hear.
What she really needs is a solid, savvy team to help her get her message out. I think she'll relocate to the lower 48 in anticipation of that, and as long as she doesn't have the millstone of a McCain campaign dragging her down, the sky is the limit.
If she wants to retire from public life or perhaps run for the Senate seat, then maybe this was a good decision.
If she's planning a national run in 2012, her career is over. Done. Everybody is going to think that there is a scandal, regardless of whether there really is one. The fact that she announced her retirement immediately before a holiday weekend, when it would be buried in the news cycle, only furthers the concerns about a scandal. I'm still stunned about what an awful decision this was, unless she honestly wanted to protect her family from vicious attacks.
Mike Huckabee is breathing a huge sigh of relief this morning. The social conservatives are now his for the taking. Palin's national ambitions are as dead as John Edwards' ambitions. Let's stop pretending otherwise.
Exactly right. We've become used to politicians not sticking to their principles, that when one does we begin to make excuses and look for scandals in the shadows. Great move by Sarah! As someone whom obviously saw the tremendous lack of leadership on the right she chose to help her country as well as her state over herself. Now her state can have a full time executor without the cumbersome and baseless legal issues, and she can concentrate on bringing conservatism back to DC.
Wow. I always thought Palin fans were delusional, but this leaps right off that cliff into self-parody. Why would any sane person ever vote for her for any office? How can she ever run again when the first question she will be asked is "Why should we believe you won't just quit this job when it gets hard?"
And Pattiann, possibly it's true that Palin has some great master plan, although I can't imagine what it is. But let me assure you that no lefties are "pooping themselves" today, unless it's because they're laughing so hard they've lost control.
I agree. How can you seek relevance when you quit the only job that made you relevant? If Bill Clinton had resigned as governor of Arkansas would we have ever heard from him again? Nobody quits a governorship and wins higher office. Maybe she'll remain active but only as a speaker or conservative opinion maker. Her political career is finished. I think the strain of fending off these frivolous complaints was what buried her. It's a shame really. Now the liberal MSNBC crowd knows that their petty harassment and attacks on her and her children succeeded. This is the first successful political lynching by Democrats since Robert Bork.
Wrong metaphor, Kurt. The original trilogy was good, but the second one sucked.
"Wow. I always thought Palin fans were delusional, but this leaps right off that cliff into self-parody. Why would any sane person ever vote for her for any office?"
Those "delusional" Palin fans did more for McCain's campaign than McCain ever did. If Palin versus the libbies is a Star Wars analogy, Palin and McCain were the political equivalent of "A Star is Born," because toward the end of the campaign far more people were going to listen to her speak than McCain.
As for being delusional, the ill-informed idiots who voted for ol' Big Ears Obama are delusional if they still think he is going to do anything to really help them.
the theme from Rocky has been filling my head since I heard she was freeing herself. its time for some road work and hitting the bag.
Hmmmm. Are you deluded as to what Sarah Palin did, or what you want her to do?
The ethics junk is over. The need for Sarah to stay in Alaska is over. She is needed elsewhere. Now as to a future?
She is going to be campaigning for fellow candidates. Kinda interesting that she will be owed a lot by the time the Campaign for president in 2012 comes around.
As it is, she is a draw. They interrupt important broadcasts because she is talking. Speculation is through the roof now.
If I was a liberal, I would be planning new ways of trying to undo her popularity. As a conservative, I am laughing at how the left gets all in a twitter when she even quietly goes to the ballpark with her daughter.
She scares the bejesus out of liberals because of who she is.
the theme from Rocky has been filling my head since I heard she was freeing herself. its time for some Roadwork and hitting the bag.
The people who adore her are in the minority. The people who see through her baloney are in the majority. She does not have the intellectual ability to lead this nation, let alone to be the commander-in-chief of our military. It will never happen. This article is crap. And you people accuse liberals of living in never never land ! ! !
She probably quit because serving the people of Alaska was interfering with her avenue to the big bucks, like spending time on her book deal, and being paid for speaking engagements.
sarah palin is my voice.
those who attack her, professionally and personally, must have a miserable life.
Odd they didn't ask her that when she ran for governor. IIRC, she did quit a job in the Alaska State Government at that point.
Ah yes, found it. She chaired the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and resigned in protest in January 2004.
Oops. Someone's a wee bit too caught up in the caricature to remember these things. Just ignore it and continue preaching teh Narrative.
If you read every day as I do THE go-to Sarah Palin web site for detailed insight into her every move as Alaska's governor – Conservatives 4 Palin- you pretty much know that Sarah had already accomplished what she and her administration promised they would do – the AGIA pipeline project. That was all Sarah. Her Lt Gov is more than ready to go from day one because Sarah has made sure to mentor him. Alaska'a "good government" under Sarah will continue under Parnell. The only difference is that the DNC hit men with their paid bloggers in Juneau and Anchorage will no longer be able to bilk the Alaska taxpayer for their frivilous,off-the-wall "ethics" violations.
(continued on the next post)
And Obama has the abilities you mention?! HAR DE HAR.
(continued from above):
I am not at all surprised with Sarah's move. Sarah could not fart in Alaska w/out some official Alaska Democratic blogger filing some sort of complaint. Bloggers followed her to local events and photographed her clothes just to go back and say "OMG, she wore those red open-toed shoes again and a skirt that was much too short!". She was told she could not leave the state to attend "partisan" events in the lower 48; then from the other side she had the "pundits" and RNC insiders who bitched her out constantly when she could not attend events in DC.
It's not like she ever had to worry about small villages being flooded or volcanoes errupting with downtown Anchorage in its sights. Something Bambi never had to worry about while campaigning 24/7 from his Senate seat. Governors are full-time jobs. She's been inundated with invitations to raise money for groups near and dear to heart but she's lucky if she can make two a year. It wouldn't surprise me if she wants to work with the Kennedy family for a year or so with the Special Olympics projects/fundraising. It wouldn't surprise me if she wants to use her SarahPac funds to campaign the lights out for the 2010 candidates she truly believes in. She has the ability to turn both the DNC AND RNC upside down. No one else has that raw power she has right now to do that. Whatever she decides to do next, you can guarantee that Rahm Emmauel/Axelrod will be the first to be concerned about it. And Kathleen Parker and Peggy Noonan will just bitch about it.
Why are you jealous? All she stated was that she quit and will now devote some of her time to people who in her mind count.
If she is as stupid and worthless as you say, why would the MSM devote a whole day to her?
Take off the GOP blinders. Sarah Palin was/is never going to win a national election. Taking away the job that gave her the only experience a very inexperience candidate had, isn't going to do her any favors either. Unless she's planning on studying History or Geography at Wasilla Community College, this is a bad move.
SARAH "The LIE-berals' TERROR" Leads by EXAMPLE…….OBAMA YOUR MOVE, RESIGN.
Next Sarah will show her Birth Certificate and that she is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN and Obanana will be CHECKMATED.
When I first heard of her resigning I was like NOOOOOOO but now that I think about it she is crazy like a hedge hog. First off I should preface this with the story, the Fox knows many things, the Hedge Hog knows one BIG THING. Sara has something up her sleeve and its a big White House on Pennsylvania Avenue. I believe the post is correct in saying that now she is unbound from the bs that the leftist scum suckers have put her and Alaska through so she can go after the gold her way. And also, she will be what amounts to a private person so who unto any idiot who decides to libel her or her family. This is just a good way for her to concentrate on several fronts. Her book will be a total smash hit to be sure and she can raise money for her campaign and others as well. This could be a really smart, gutsy move.
Palin's problem is that she has lost the support of many conservatives by this point. Bush and Reagan appealed to the entire party. Jindal does the same. Have you been reading the National Review's response to Palin's resignation? They're a lot more troubled by it than some of the posters here are. That speaks volumes.
I'm reluctant to call this a lynching; sadly, no politician can escape the petty nonsense from the press. Bork at least left his SCOTUS hearings with his reputation intact. I have trouble seeing the same for Palin.
To every liberal who has posted a comment:
With unemployment at its worst point since Carter was in office (and inching ever closer to 10 percent after Obama said it would go higher than 8.4), and people like Colin Powell, a Republican who voted for Obama, saying they have concerns about his agenda, I wouldn't be as confident as you all are trying to sound. If the Misery Index shows up again before 2012, change is indeed going to happen whether Palin is a candidate or not. Personally, I hope she is.
I have a dumb question. Are you the President of the United States?
The reason why I ask, is that there have been only a handful to occupy that office and it seems to me that only someone who has been elected to that office can talk to her about moves to become POTUS.
BREAKING NEWS….BREAKINGS NEWS…this just played on CNN and MSNBC and all the BEDMATE MEDIA. They just announced why Sarah resigned. She wants to get more qualified to run for President. She is becoming a community organizers, joinning ACORN, Joiing the Chicago Communist Party, Joining Jeremiah Wright's Church, Traveling to Indonesia, Pakistan and finally to Kenya to become a Kenyan Citizen.
She is excited about thid next endeavor in her life and hopes it will pay off in 2012. Also with this trainning she knows the Media will LOVE HER.
LIBS FEAR TO HEAR SARAH the TERROR. They pee themselves like rabbid puppy dogs.
I tend to agree with you that Obama will be a one-termer. But it won't be Palin that dethrones him. She's finished as a presidential candidate.
Leading the Revolution!
Interesting, like in the posted clip, Sarah Palin chose the moment to end the fight. We have many striking at her empty cloak. Will she rise to guide others to victory?
Burry the story on a holiday weekend? What is the top post in the blogosphere? The story is in the top 10 of CNNs most popular. Pundits are taking away from their Saturday, Fourth of July celebrations to not be left out of this moment.
I suspect that Palin has ideas to start a movement. I expect it will intersect with the Tea Parties (eventually). Her popularity gives her a bully pulpit. Her history gives her the ability to inspire hockey moms, soccer moms and dance recital dads to do a little community organizing themselves.
Presidents who didn't go to college:
George Washington
Andrew Jackson
Martin Van Buren
Zachery Taylor
Millard Fillmore
Abraham Lincoln
Grover Cleveland
Harry S. Truman
I am sorry but the people who voted for the least qualified person ever to be President (aka Obama) have forever forfieted their right to dismiss any politician as unworthy, least of all Palin.
Hmm…Palin: standing down as Governor so that she doesn't milk the alaskan people for 2 years "lame duck" salary VS. Obama: getting elected as a Senator and then immediately campaigning for President all the while voting "abstain" or not even attending votes all the while getting paid to be Senator.
Which one sounds more ethical to you?
Won't the governor's salary just get paid to the replacement? I'm having a tough time following you here. This doesn't seem like it will save the state a dime.
It is doubtful that she is down and out. This is the age of the internet and people are now speculating.
It doesn't matter if it is a smart move now, if she gets elected to POTUS, it is a smart move. If she doesn't, she has shaken up the establishment any way, which is a good thing.
Notice also, that she had to have been thinking on this for months, and yet there were NO LEAKS. I repeat NO LEAKS. It came as a surprise.
What other surprises does she have up her sleeve?
Then color me a proud minority.
Jake, on that happy note…. ;-(
You need a bar-b-que and a brewski pronto! and hang up your flag!!
1964 all over again…only worse.
If only she would become a community organizer and start hanging around with some communists, terrorists and Islamists — *then* she'd be qualified.
Great minds think alike; this is my post published at July 3, 2009 at 10:51 pm.
If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.
http://templeofmut.wordpress.com/2009/07/03/if-yo...
It is my contention that it is the newly-energized Tea Party activists that will pick up the “light saber of liberty” and fight the “dark side” of oppressive government control. In other words, the concept of citizen politician (rather in keeping with the vision of our founders), will be carried on by regular people who have become involved with the process only recently. In that sense, the left’s triumph is Phyrric at best. Will we win in 2010? You bettcha!
What intellectual ability is she lacking?
Take your lies and insults elsewhere. We will not stand for them here.
Finally! A conservative leader that the voters can rally around. Let the rest of them (Huckabee, Romney, etc.) shy away from the national spotlight. Sarah has the guts to stand up to the left wing haters and put them in their places.
At least she didn't say: "Think of all the fun you'll be missing. You won't have Sarah Palin to kick around anymore."
Barbarism has its virtues: “Unless we keep the barbarian virtues, gaining the civilized ones will be of little avail.” — Teddy Roosevelt.
Barbarism would be preferable to the smiley-face fascism of the American left, or the hard fascism of South America under Chavez. But even if it would be an exercise in futility, I won't give up on our Republic. I'd never be able to look at a portrait of any of the founders or of any of Western Civilisation's great scrappers and champions, without hanging my head in shame.
Sarah is going to LEAD the COnservative Recovery and help Conservatives take over a Majority in CONgress. This will solidify her as a money raiser and a power to reckon with. She will back candidates and orgnaize the party like a REAGAN MOVEMENT.
I am with her and bring many with me to her Conservatiev Alliance.
We are with you and your family Sarah the Lie-berals' Terror….she speaks and they pees themselves like rabbid puppies.
+1 cloudbuster ( sorry I can't quite "smiley face" about it)
The US is only 233 years old. We have the potential for many, many more years as a great country. Take a look at the history of any great nation–there are always peaks and valleys. If you study history, you will also see that it is at those times–when the valley is lowest–that the conviction of the people matter the most: we either give up or we refuse and fight to see that our country does not fail.
In the immortal words of Margaret Thatcher: Failure is not an option.
There are, however, people who have spent a lifetime trying to convince us that our best days are behind us. It is up to you to decide what motivates that thought process.
"Personally, I was unaware of the urgent moral imperative of serving out one’s full term as governor…"
Priceless. Really.
How on God's green earth is lady going to do as president? She can't even take care of her own daughter!
To borrow another show business analogy…when it comes to Sarah Palin, I am like Agent Scully on "The X-Files": I want to believe.
I am impressed with her charisma, determination, and personal honesty, and I want to believe she has the judgement and knowledge to back that charisma. (I couldn't care less that she does not come from the GOP Beltway elite that produced fools like the Obama-endorsing Christopher Buckley.)
As of July 2, though, I was still not convinved she was ready to be POTUS. Her resignation announcement does nothing to make my mind up one way or the other. I believe she plans to run for POTUS in 2012; if so I will see how she does in the heat of the GOP nomination campaign before I commit to her.
If her resignation does in fact mark the end of her political career, then I don't need to worry about her ability to be president.
It never ceases to amaze that the Smooth Thugs on the left drive their daughter to PP for the abortion and heap shame on life.
Nix that. You only get to be suprised 1000 times.
Right. Let me ask you something…how much of a chance do you think a politician who doesn't want to get re-elected have at accomplishing any of his or her agenda? It's called being a "lame duck" for a reason.
Here's a question for you: Do you think Obama wasted the tax payers money by taking a salary to do the work of a Senator and then spending the whole time planning his presidential campaign? Be honest.
You've got it right, Kurt. It was a well-timed move, with all the leftie talking horses hienies out to Chappaquiddick for the weekend, leaving only a few wienies here to snivel and snipe and lick their chops over imagined juicy scandals.
As for the notion that she had to stay in the governor's mansion like Clinton to stay relevant, there's are big differences between her and Billy-Bob: she is already known and respected, and a good 50 million of us can't wait to vote for her again. This time without a loser ii the lead role. By the way that doesn't preclude Mitt in either slot. It does preclude the jerk Huckaby who helped give us the loser last time.
Dream on you lefties.
Free Kool-Aid here. If Sarah Palin truly wanted to prove she was presidential, she would have stayed on as governor, not only finished that job, but won re-election and served out a second term. She needs experience — the experience of multiple budgets, multiple fights, multiple election cycles. She needs seasoning. She chose to fold up her tent because she knew she couldn't even win re-election to the governor's mansion. She is an overly ambitious quitter, looking for the easy way out. Her best attributes — her looks — will fade soon, so she has to strike now. But she just comes across as goofy. It has been a great four weeks for someone on the other side of the fence from Palin, Sanford, and Ensign. I'd say Romney is looking pretty good.
[...] The Force is With Sarah Palin by Kurt Schlichter [...]
Oh, hey wr1, happy dependence day. What are you doing to celebrate dependence, spending the day on your knees praying to your Barry, and your love of government. Well happy dependence day, slave!
Count me as one of those people who thinks this is a terrible move if she aspires to be President. If she aspires to a lot of other things, such as privacy and punditry, it's a fine move, but not if she aspires to be President.
For the record, I adore Sarah Palin and hoped she would be President someday, although I feared that the bastards had damaged her reputation to the point where that was impossible. I've probably said this before and I'll certainly say it again: ask anyone you know who dislikes her what they know about her. You will get a mountain of false information (creationism, abstinence-only education, book banning, &c.), but they won't know a thing about her accomplishments. Sadly, the lefties and the media did their job well in this instance.
LEFTIES and the Bedmate Media NEVER VoTE or SUPPORT a CONSERVATIVE…them hating her makes us love her even more.
I don't own a flag. If I had one, I think I'd much prefer the Gadsden "DON'T TREAD ON ME" banner.
I'd never be able to look at a portrait of any of the founders or of any of Western Civilisation's great scrappers and champions, without hanging my head in shame.
I can't even look at them now.
Personally, I think she could be most valuable as a pit bull aggitator. Shining the light on what the fabian socalists in the executive and legislative branches are doing to our country and galvanizing the efforts of conservatives. Untied to personal ambition or a campaign she would be freed to really drive liberals insane.
Page not found. The link is truncated. If I'm not mistaken you can edit your message.
Found it anyway, and I have to say your gift for flattery is somewhat wanting…
Scott, it's Barack Obama who needs to study history and georgraphy. That bozo doesn't even know how many states we have, believes Austrians speak Austrian and has no problem bowing and scraping to a wack job Muslim (the king of Saudi Arabia) while his wife paws the Queen of England. Give me a break!
If my life has taught me anything at all, it's that failure is not only an option, but that it is inevitable.
Tolkien called it the Long Defeat. Good must needs summon up all the strength it can in order to prevail for even a little while, whilst evil recuperates almost at will.
I think everyone forgets to actually listen anymore. Sarah Palin gave us the clue as to what the future will bring for her and the rest of the nation. She's a fighter. She's hunted elk and moose and dressed them out for the meat. She fishes and isn't afraid of slicing them up for a nice fillet and she can actuall cook it for dinner. This scares the hell out of the metrosexual types in the main stream media. They don't understand her because they live in a very protective environment where they sit in front of a computer and write op-eds trying to figure her out and when all else fails, they attack her "inability to grasp the complexity of the world and the national political stage"…..I for one find it very refreshing that she isn't the typical narcissistic politician who will do anything at all cost to win an election and accumulate power. Sarah Palin is the real deal.
When I heard Palin had resigned, like the trolls and useful idiots, my first thought was that there must be a scandal out there. And there still may well be. But it also is possible she or someone in her family has received a serious medical diagnosis that would preclude her from doing her job as governor. Or maybe it's just that she can't afford the frivolous ethics complaints launched against her. Or maybe it's just a mother who can't justify watching her children attacked by political ideologues like Letterman, Couric, Gibson and the DNC. From what she said in her conference, these vipers are now even attacking a Down's Syndrome child. What parent would want to subject his or her 14 year old daughter to the likes of David Letterman? His excuse that he was talking about her 18 year old daughter was even worse — as though four years justifies such vile comments. A comedian? That ridiculous old gap-toothed reprobate hasn't been a comedian for two decades. He's a political operative, just like Couric and Gibson and the rest of the propagandists.
Sarah Palin is the part of the iceberg that is above the water. Lurking below the waterline is what happened to Ted Stevens — ethics complaints filed against him in an effort to deprive him of his Senate seat. Interesting, isn't it, how the case was dropped once he lost. Then there's Al Franken who just stole a Senate seat in MN. Congrats Minnesota, you deserve him. I hope you've seen the picture of him in a diaper — what's in the diaper is what you did to your state. Then there's four years ago when Gregoire (Washington) had the vote recounted until she won – then, miraculously, no more recounts.
What the media did to Sarah Palin is similar to what the Russian Bolsehviks did to the Tsar, his wife, children and servants. Only they used words and character assassination instead of bullets. Perhaps if the Russian Bolsheviks had had a media as compliant as American Lefites have, it wouldn't have been necessary to kill the children.
And then I had an awful sinking feeling.
Find one on line! So cool!
Have a great one!
Sadly, for you, your analysis is dead wrong. Mark my words………this lady is super crafty. She has something up her sleeve, and all you naysayers and lefties will change your tune. I "betcha" Obama's flunkies are shaking in their booties.
Interesting. it appears we have lived very different lives…
Maybe this sounds naive, but I really cannot think of a time when I have failed. On the other hand, I have had many, many, many "learning experiences"…without which my life would have been vastly less interesting.
JKB………………you hit the nail on the head!!
Jake…………….you need some help with that pessimistic attitude.
You've got it right, Kurt. It was a well-timed move, with all the leftie talking horses hienies out to Chappaquiddick for the weekend, leaving only a few wienies here to snivel and snipe and lick their chops over imagined juicy scandals.
The governor's mansion has become a distraction for her, and unlike Clinton she does not need it for a platform. She is already known, and by the way she is known as a person of integrity, not a sleazy sex-crazed demagogue. There are a good 50 million of us out here already who can't wait to vote for her again. And this time she won't get stuck playing second fiddle to a loser. She can run with Romney, in either slot and it will be fine with me.
Someone suggested Huckaby in 012. I say no way, and Palin will not get stuck with him. That likable fool cost us the chance to have a real candidate last time, and his abuse of Romney was unconscionable.
Palin is DONE and Letterman has the last laugh; sad but true…
The admin is at it again.
Love your comments!! You are so dead-on!! And yep, Sarah is the real deal!!
This doesn't seem like it will save the state a dime.
With Sarah gone, the left have lost their motivation for harassing the Alaska state government in court with time-consuming and money-wasting ethics complaints.
Of course, lacking a motivation doesn't decrease a Lefty's enthusiasm for anything, so I'll probably have to concede that one.
Believe me, I know.
I know, believe me.
You mean just like Obama and Biden, Right?
It would be easy to think the Left underestimates Palin, but I think the rabid anti-Palin response happens because they know on some level that Palin galvanizes the Conservative base. She can go off-the-reservation and still do very well. She has always shaped her career around what's best for her family and the people she's representing- not around what has become politics-as-usual. The fact is, our political system has become nothing more than a machine full of insiders who play the game of partisanship, but really spend most of their time trying to get re-elected. Palin doesn't play the game by the old rules and that freaks people out. But the voting public knows she's the real deal.
"Why would any sane person ever vote for her for any office?"
I ask the same question about Obama every day………….And yes, the "her" in your statement also works for Obama!
"A New Hope" (which is what he said he was betting this was) was the title of the very first "Star Wars" movie. The second trilogy was "The Phantom Menace," "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith."
Okay. Taking me geek hat off now.
I'm sorry, but this column is delusional. Her quitting says one of two things…If she's quitting because it's too hard, then she's not tough enough for the high office. If she's quitting because being Governor of Alaska isn't really that important, then she's undercutting her own limited experience. Of course the third option (that she's quitting halfway through her first term in a serious office because she thinks she can get a better job) isn't going to play well with a lot of people either.
I think she should do something like RNC Chairman. No offense to Steele, but she'd be great at fund raising and helping to shape the party message. I think this decision kills any chance she had to win in 2012 (and probably 2016 as well). The only way Obama loses is if he runs our economy into the ground (pretty likely), in which case the last thing the voters will be looking for is someone with even less experience to take his place.
I'll remind Sarah to get your o-k the next time she has a big move to make.
Stop me if I'm wrong, but hasn't she run into strong opposition from her own legislature, who among other things rejected her a.g. choice unanimously? The Republican legislature that's poised to veto her rejection of stimulus funds? That, itself, put forward the ethics complaints against her? It seems to me she was pretty embattled by the hometown crowd. For her Alaska supporters, it seems like a kick in the teeth for her to quit with a year and a half to go on her term. ("I'm quitting early so I won't be a lame duck." Huh??) Her book will sell, but it's not out for nearly a year, and given the general economy, I doubt the mega-speaking fees are still out there for her to collect to offset her rising personal debt. After the last election I'm frightened at how much the next one's going to cost. I'm not convinced Palin can swing it, especially if she's not the darling of the mainstream Republican party. (I know, I know, it's on its last legs, etc. etc, but they still have the fat cat donors) In any case, it makes for good theater! It still feels abrupt to me, and smells like there's a bombshell coming down the pipe, if I can completely mix my metaphors.
Obama in particular should be celebrating this Independence Day with zeal. What other country, but America, would this guy be anything other than a janitor?
I'll buy a copy of Palin's book. I wouldn't be caught dead with Pelosi's.
No, what I mean is that if that's the GOP ticket, Johnson v. Goldwater will look like a close one by comparison.
Newt's a wonk. He's got (mostly) well-thought out policy positions on you-name-it. Sarah, not so much.
Sarah's got all the charisma in the world. On the other hand, Newt rings in on the likeability scale somewhere near Howard Cosell.
The good news is that Sarah's problem is fixable, or at least it was until: "Ya know, I just don't want to be governor anymore."
Bato, and how do you know she is finished? Are you also clairvoyant? We don't know what the next step will be. Personally I believe Sara will run against Murkowski. She needs to concentrate on being more well spoken, and polishing her image. She already is a great beauty..yeah sorry to K-Parker etc. but you really couldn't carry Sara's make up case. I know sucks to be you to, don't it?
Yeah sqt, I am definitely buying Palin's book too. Pelosi has the personality of a dead fish and her book reflects that.
Glenn, I dig your website but sometimes you can be a bit of a bore.
Really.
Scott proves once again that the issues of self loathing and snobbishness are alive and well on the left. Thanks Scott. Tell us do you eat oysters everyday for breakfast and have long irrelevant conversations with the same like minded twits in the leftist echo chamber you live in?
Hear, hear, Dave!! That sounds like a total winner to me!!
If Sarah Palin is on a national ticket for 2012, unlike the last election, I will get out there and campaign for her. It'll probably cause my mother to have a stroke since she is stricken with BDS and PDS, but at this point, I refuse to just sit back and do nothing any longer. National TEA Party in D.C. on Sept. 12! Who's with me??
Sarah get's my vote for one reason! Drilling and Nuclear Power! She's for both. Without either one of these this country is doomed………..
Newt's an acquired taste, much like me, but he is brilliant.
The ticket most likely to be seen in 2012 is Romney/Palin or Romney/Jindal. After the finacial fiasco our current leader has created we will need someone who actually know's something about the economy and Romney's that someone………..Not a big fan of Mitt but he know's number's and that's what we will need by 2012. Actually we need that now…..
I still prefer Nugent and Palin though.:)
newt's a good guy, but we definitely need new, young (yet true to our core values) conservatives running for office. definitely sarah for president, and then maybe someone like Ben Shapiro for VP (is there an age minimum for that office)? I heard him speak yesterday at the Glendale Tea Party and he's awesome. "We have not yet begun to fight."
Sarah, Sarah, thank you for the early fireworks! Always ahead of the game. You gave them a holiday weekend to stew, I love it! What ever you do I am all for it. She accomplished four yrs of work in two, she put a stop to the frivolous lawsuits, quitter ha, not a chance. And if there was some kind of scandal don't you think they would of found it by now? I don't know what those troops told her when she went overseas, but I'm thinking they want her to fight the war for them here and soon! She's got the world's attention and I can't wait to see what she's going to do next!
..
.
In an age of manufactered, lying, telepromter addicted phonies it is refreshing to see someone real and genuine. It was a gutsy move. I find it way more interesting to see the old liberal lioness Helen Thomas call President Zero "worse than Nixon". Interesting to say the least.
Jake,
SHAKE OUT OF IT, MAN!!!
If we all had YOUR attitude, we ARE lost. I refuse to just sit back and be "Eyore" about this! Get off your duff, man! Get active! Get the hence to a TEA Party! BE ACTIVE!!!
If we aren't active and come out swinging and fight the impending tyranny, we'll be just like the lefty sheeple: apathetic, morose, angry and deserving of every bad thing we get.
LET'S GO PEOPLE!!! Jake, don't make me show up at your place for a personal one-on-one "motivation" talk. I can be formidable: just ask my husband.
Are you forgetting 'The Audacity of Hype'?
LMAO well put.
Personally, I am Sick and Tired Of Sarah Palin. I liked her at first in the McCain Campaign, but she has almost as little political experience as Barack Obama. She is running on nothing but Cliches and Platitudes, and she is not a solid Debater, or an engaging speaker. For the Record, Obama really isn't either, but I don't know his wise black man voice is more soothing no doubt.
Some people say that no one has a right to complain after Obama's election, but 2 wrongs don't make a right. There is nothing about Sarah Palin that makes her an extraordinary champion of our Cause, and everyone who is behind her for 2012 knows that Deep Down, she isn't a new type of Politician anymore that Obama is.
People on the left treated her despicably, true, but that does not give her any more claim to the nomination, and lets face it, she used the lettermann thing to bring herself to the spotlight.
There are several Solid Candidates in the Republican Party and she is not one of them.
From a once republican to a now independent, I say Go Girl!!
I think you might be right about Romney. Although I'm afraid that things will get so bad that the only one who'll be able to save us is the man who saved NYC — Rudy.
I like Jindal. I can live with Romney (I like him a lot better than McCain). But Palin is done.
So put me down for Rudy/Jindal 2012.
(I'm very willing to consider Turn 'Em Up Ted!)
She kinda looks like a dead fish, too, with those over-surgically-corrected eyes. Not bashing, just pointing out the obvious.
The ones who are responsible for these memes probably know. Most of the trolls here aren't that. They're parrots.
Hey we've got a Senate seat opening up in Illinois. I'd hate to see it happen to her, but she could learn all the neccesary tools here in Dimocratland. You know, things like how to lie, cheat, steal, pass the buck, throw someone under the bus, be an anti-semite etc…………There's also another bonus. The Democratic Machine will bury everything and anything that hurts her chances of being President………..Just sayin'
Overheard at the White House yesterday: "Congratulations, girls – you won't be changing schools for another SEVEN years!"
One understands, in the context of politics in the media age, that bad candidates whom "the base" none the less loves must be treated gently lest Ned Flanders et al come to realize that the party doesn't really care as much about their pet social causes as they let on. But exactly how much longer is the GOP going to let this nonsense go on? The woman is, at best, a cartoon caricature, not a viable presidential challenger. And the idea that "Pat Robertson with a great rack" apparently excited Republicans more than a genuine war hero who'd spent his entire life in service to his country… well, that kinda says it all about where things went wrong, dunnit?
This may be the first example in recent decades of a "High Profile" person putting the needs of their children ahead of their own career. I know Letterman was just trying to be funny with his stupid comments. But with movies, magazines, music videos and television it is hard enough to raise our little girls with an ounce of self-esteem, without turning on the T.V. and hearing jokes about yourself being knocked up at a baseball game. And I sincerely hope that at least one liberal on these boards could agree with me that taking shots at a 2 year old baby with Downs Syndrome is simply pathetic. To think that you could be so desperate to take down another person that you would resort to that level, is just amazing to me.
No job title or political office is worth having your family attacked the way hers was. I hope she doesn't return to politics, screw the people, they're not worth it. Atlas is Shrugging!
Buried in the news cycle? Yeah, that's exactly what happened. She waited until nothing was happening and then made an announcement that had all the talking heads drooling all over themselves. That's really burying things.
That might just be too much awesomeness for one Presidential ticket.
I agree with the sentiment, however. It would be nice to not just defeat the left, but decimate them.
It's the next day and I still think your wrong…I do agree that Newt has NO CHANCE…Palin will spend the next three years burnishing her credentials, so to speak…she has time…
Sarah Palin has made a BRILLIANT move! She's going it alone. If there is one thing that's been hammered into her since the moment she became VP nominee, it was that no one was defending her except herself. McCain not only didn't defend her, he stabbed her repeatedly in the back. Her party didn't defend her – they were too busy trying to be demo-lite. And the media were attacking her like sharks. NO ONE defended this woman. She played with the team – and the team stabbed her in the back. So now? Well, Sarah's finally rid herself of that team and she's going it alone. God bless her. And another thing – the reason why the GOP, the Democrats and the media are scared witless of her doing this is because of what else has walked out on the 'team' of old time politicians and corrupt media – the American voters. Sarah has walked away from the same 'team' that's disgusted the American conservatives beyond all redemption. And this means that Sarah is walking in the same direction as the voters. Go Sarah! She's rid herself of the worst and aligned herself with the best.
Romney/Palin 2012 would smash Obama/Clownboy head to head….
Bork certainly did NOT leave the SCOTUS hearings with his reputation intact–at least at the public level. The left completely trashed him and the image stuck–so much so that his name became a verb for that type of nasty personal attack (borking).
Don't go by what NR writers are saying to judge the feeling of main street conservatives regarding Palin. Some conservatives may have wanted her to have had more experience, and to have been a bit more polished, but most of those same folks were (and are) enraged at her treatment in the press.
Personally, I wish she hadn't quit as I think it does create a bit of a problem for any future run. Then again, any Republican is going to have a very hard time running against "the first black president." Whether she quit in 2009 will (or should be) less of an issue in 2016, or later, if she does other things to enhance her national presence. For now, I'll keep hoping for "A New Hope."
First of all, it cost the State of Alaska over two million dollars to deal with the bogus ethics complainants the drooling left filed against her – all of which have been thrown out, btw.
Second, it's an issue of morality and ethics, which may be why you're not getting it. She has stepped down in order to branch out onto a national level. That means she is not being paid by the State of Alaska while she is off doing everything but governing.
When the senate was in session in Alaska, Governor Palin stayed in Alaska, putting Alaska first, as always. By resigning, she's handed her programs over to a man she knows will follow in her footsteps and continue to do what she put in place. The difference is now she can move on, which I hope she will do.
It's simple – She weighed her priorities and decided to stop the garbage. I doubt she wants to seek any office, as she is now a viable pundit with a record of conservatism and achievement that should serve her well.
Which leads me to the larger question… who in the hell would want to run in this acerbic climate? It would take some superhuman virgin, who lives in a bubble and has no real life experience. He/she could not have run a business, had any sexual relationship or caused any problem, and still they'd hammer them on petty issues and mean spirited innuendoes. The left attack machine is alive and well and ready to cut down anyone that poses a threat, and on this July 4th, I grieve for our nation.
MovieBob, the reason we were excited about it is because she actually reflects conservative principles in a charismatic, and, yes, attractive, package. John McCain has sold conservatives down the river, both legislatively and verbally, on many occasions (McCain-Feingold being the one that really gets my goat). If the base was less than thrilled with him, well, that's the price he paid for courting Democrats and moderates at their expense.
And your line about Palin being "Pat Roberson with a great rack" shows what a great job the media and the left did smearing her. Sarah Palin is not a religious fanatic, and has done nothing in her personal life or stint as governor that a normal person would interpret as religious fanaticism. But somehow everyone is convinced she wants creationism taught in school and abstinence-only education. Neither are true. Nice work, media.
The link below covers the contraception lie: http://www.reclusiveleftist.com/2009/06/13/stop-t...
She's not going it alone.
Palin/Malkin 2012!
Heh. A "caricature"? Perhaps the problem is you mistaking the caricature your side fabricated for the actual person.
This is perfect timing for Sarah to get down her and make speeches on her subject – energy- and help us beat back the Cap and Tax bill. Can't wait to attend a Palin event. Since Obama has decided to govern like he's still campaigning, Palin can tour the country in anti-Obama campaign mode too. Although she has too much class and smarts to actually say she's camaigning against Obama, but her view of America is the opposite of Obama/liberal dems so it will just naturally be an anitdote to them.
being in the senate most of your life does not equate to service to your country, but if you want to disparage people for being more excited about a non soldier than McCain, you can thank the Obama voters including Colin Powell.
Also, having just taken a side trip to NRO's The Corner, the NR writers are not unanimously against Palin's move. Victor Davis Hansen and Mark Steyn, Steve Hayward and K-Lo, all seem to think that it's too soon to write Palin off. Naturally, the left will criticize her decision. Ditto the Republicans who also didn't like her from the start (e.g., Steve Schmidt). Okay, let them crow a bit now. Palin is now in a position to learn and grow. She won't be totally out of the public spotlight, but she won't be center stage. That will give her a better chance to prepare for her next run (if she wants one).
Jindal is sharp. I would rather keep Mitt out of the executive spot and tap him to run Treasury maybe teamed up with a real economist like Sowell. If things go well, then let Mitt make a run after we've trimmed the Government down. Mitt is too much of a big government Rep for me to want him near the top spots right away.
[...] Will Palin Pull a Kenobi? July 4, 2009 Posted by Jehuda in Uncategorized. Tags: News, Politics trackback “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine”. [...]
What's wrong with creationism and abstinence-only education?
Let her tap the Tea Parties. Plenty of energy there waiting for leadership.
You are so right! She should have taken care of her daughter by killing her granddaughter, just like Obama promised he would.
Shouldn't your screen name be BDS?
Palin had two choices: stay in the governorship where she had pretty much accomplished her agenda and was marking time and taking hits that were ruining her reputation. It was making her a lame duck as she said, or she could pass the ball and duck the trap. Where she was, her hands were tied and she couldn't effectively fight back against anything being said against her. Now she's free and able to answer her critics. I watched her news conference and she didn't sound like a broken person; she sounded fighting mad. I recognized that tone of voice. I've had it myself, and I've been energized and mobilized to fight back against what I see happening in this country.
Exactly, I stood on the soap box at the Tea Party today and my point was that we need to take back our political process. Sarah is an example of how to do it. Main Street needs to invade the Capitol and K Street.
I know. I kept thinking " Finally! Someone is going to take it to the left." If she does that and does it at all decently, she'll be amply positioned to run for office with a lot of the base eating out of her hands.
I'm sorry but the adoration people have for her here sounds too much like the brainless Adoration much of America had for Obama. Her Speeches are ranting and unsubstantive, she has no major achievements to her name other than going from Governor to VP candidate in one year.
She is going to get trounced in the Primaries (Dont tell me not to underestimate her) but the Republican Candidate is Going to Own Obama in the Election.
This coming from someone who probably thinks it's a great idea to spend the country into deeper debt to fix our debt. Do you max out your credit card and solve that problem by taking out an even bigger card and paying off the maxed card with it and then maxing it out? Apparently, El Presidente Government Motors thinks so.
The legislature voted to allow the investigation to go forward but not out of animosity to Palin. It became a very partisan affair after Palin was nominated. Regarding the ethics investigation, here is an excerpt from a New York Times article 11/4/08:
The conclusion by an independent investigator for the state Personnel Board contradicts a determination last month of an inquiry by the Alaska Legislature that Ms. Palin had breached the ethics act by pressing to have the trooper, Michael Wooten, dismissed. That investigation found, however, that the governor was within her right to fire her public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan.
Timothy J. Petumenos, an Anchorage lawyer who conducted the investigation for the Personnel Board, concluded, ''There is no probable cause to believe that the governor or any other state official violated the Alaska Executive Ethics Act in connection with these matters.''
Ms. Palin's lawyer, Thomas V. Van Flein, said in an e-mail statement concerning the Monegan firing, 'The Governor is grateful that this investigation has provided a fair and impartial review of this matter and upholds the Governor's ability to take measures when necessary to ensure that Alaskans have the best possible team working to serve them.''
With regard to the Legislature's investigation by Stephen E. Branchflower, Mr. Van Flein wrote, ''Mr. Petumenos determined that the Branchflower report's findings that Governor Palin abused her power had no legal basis and that Governor Palin did not violate the Ethics Act as Mr. Branchflower incorrectly asserted.''
Nick, please sign in and point to anyone who "adores" her.
Yesterday, Sarah Palin detailed her reasons for resigning (prefer that to quitting or giving up) her job as governor.
Before she gave them she named 12 important big Alaskan accomplishments, including the reversal of two Ninth Circus decisions.
She started out giving her reasons for her resignation: “And there is such a need to BUILD up and FIGHT for our state and our country. I choose to FIGHT for it! And I'll work hard for others who still believe in free enterprise and smaller government; strong national security for our country and support for our troops; energy independence; and for those who will protect freedom and equality and LIFE… I'll work for and campaign for those PROUD to be American, and those who are INSPIRED by our ideals and won't deride them.”
This sounds like a run for senator, president or vice president. If it is one of the national offices, it gives her time to introduce herself to many American counties, build a national coalition and raise cash much like Reagan did.
If Alaska was in trouble, Palin could be seen as abandoning ship. The rest of her arguments point to just the opposite.
She said that political operatives descended on Alaska last August. In other words, B. Hussein O. Jr. and other out of state Democrats are trying to bust her out, break her bank.
She is now $500,000 in debt because of frivolous law suits that are possible in her state. Why should she give enemies more chances to take any more cash out of her presidential war chest? Unlike B. Hussein, O. Jr., Sarah Palin does not work under a corrupt political machine, nor solicit corrupt overseas contributions, or kiss the ass of a corrupt press.
Palin said that she spends all her time defending herself, not doing Alaska’s business. Why is this passed over by Big Media as if it is a meaningless politician’s lie? Why isn’t this a valid point?
Why isn’t her point about saving Alaskan taxpayers millions of dollars and thousands of hours or manpower make perfect sense?
Just fly your Gadsden below your stars and stripes. That's what we did at our Tea Party flag protest today. One is good; both are better!
She further makes states: “And then I thought – that's what's wrong – many just accept that lame duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck, and milk it". She’s talking about the next year and a half if she continued as governor.
This makes perfect sense also. The Lieutenant Governor will not be a lame duck. For the next year and a half, Alaskan Republicans will possibly have a more powerful advocate.
In fact, Palin is not abandoning Alaska but putting it – though unconventionally – in a stronger position. She insures Lieutenant Governor Parnell a better position for re-election.
CBS called the speech “confusing.” I just read it and I see nothing remotely confusing. Possibly CBS management should check its own reporters for their ability to think straight or start giving them lie detector tests after every time they open their mouths.
You’ll notice that the same Republican reporters who set us up with McCain-to-throw-the-2008-election are drilling Palin as weak and a quitter. They are saying that it was too hot in the Alaska kitchen for her and she had to get out. In fact, they know that Palin, quite likely will make it too hot for them and their Bilderberger, New World Order puppet masters.
Palin is of the people, not Ivy League egg heads. She is exactly what our democratic republic was made for.
Two quick off-topic points. Ann Coulter said that Maggie Thatcher is a big fan of Palin and points out that she herself came from a lower class English background. She spent time in elocution classes to improve her ability to convince the upper crust that she could handle the job.
There’s a lot to be said for this. While watching Palin’s speech I saw two grammatical errors that drove me up a wall. She also has emotional flourishes, some of which endear us to her, others that seem a bit off-key. If Palin followed Thatcher’s advice it might go a long way to convincing our Ivy League egg heads that she is the real deal.
Coulter also said that Palin should invite Thatcher to Alaska. What better foreign advice could she get?
I think you may be right. Treasury would be a very good fit for him!
Romney has some definite negatives, but he has great speaking abilities and a very strong presence (I think that's the correct term?) about him. I am looking only as far ahead as the election debates. The average American voter seems to base who they vote for solely on how "pretty" the canidate speaks (that's sad but true) and I think Mitt would come out ahead against Obama. Probably for no other reason than teleprompter's are not allowed.
If Jindal would show a little more confidence when giving speeches and be more forceful when speaking he would get my vote in a nano-second! He's a little weak in this area still.
I've said it here before but it is worth repeating. I have family in New Orlean's and they say Jindal is very well liked across party lines, and, it also appears that he is well on his way to fixing a "very" broken Louisiana
In the end I just want any scrap of the Obama administration gone in 2012…………
Interesting how you didn't name any of them. Could it be because you don't actually know them?
Spoken like someone who let the MSM give him most of his Palin information. Are you sure it was actually Palin you were seeing and not Tina Fey?
I'd like to see Palin put together a Conservative women tour and go tear up the Independent conservative crowd. She's free and she can fight back. And I think there are a lot of people who want to see real change and real hope. If she's the person many of us think she might be, she'll be able to tap that and she'll be the real deal.
I'm for Jindal/Romney, though Romney has great exposure and Jindal is still recovering from his disastrous premier on the national stage. Right now, I think Jindal has it all–strong conservative credentials, a successful track record and a long and brilliant paper trail, and he can kill Obama on academic credentials (and all of Jindal's are public and verifiable). Then of course there's that supposed non-issue of Republicans all being white as the driven snow. If Jindal can get his national recognition and show off his charm, I'm for him. If he fails to get enough national attention, I'll go with Romney/Jindal.
Thompson made a bunch of mistakes during last cycle, but if Palin heads up the campaign and he the second banana. We will have our country back into sanity!
Right now, our main concern is to run out a many libertards out of the capital in 2010!
That's gonna be messy for them, considering they've got people like Sheryl Crowe wanting them to limit their toilet paper use to 1 square.
Youth is no substitute for experience.Think about this ticket.Palin/Gingrich. You would have the Drive and determination with a little bit of [ just because you say it cant be done im gonna do it that comes with youth ] and the Ive been there and done that that only comes with Experience. Two family oriented, pro drill pro nuclear pro alternitive energy pro American individuals that no how to get things done . By the end of 2012 we are going to need a team in place that knows the ropes and has the [excuse the term] BALLS to turn this out of control government around. I luv them both
Excellent post. Sarah didn't abandon Alaska, as her detractors like to say- She brilliantly handed her successor the governorship without his having a primary challenge- BRILLIANT!!
So let me get this straight…she was a very inexperienced candidate despite the fact that she was governor of a state?
Never mind, you're right, being a thug Chicago senator readies you for the presidency much, much better. I love how many people come on this website, troll the comments to try and insult everybody on here, and then never come back with a response. VERY courageous.
"There’s plenty of talk out there about her somehow being a “quitter” for only serving as governor for three years,"
If only that were true. In fact, governor Palin only served 2 years and 7 months as governor of the fourth smallest state in America. If Sarah Palin is such a great candidate why is it that her supporters have to resort to out-right lies?
i agree with you – experience is vital. no doubt. my personal opinion, though, is that newt does not have broad appeal, both within the republican party and definitely not outside the party. someone else on the board suggested a palin/thompson ticket and i would support that more. thompson was my original choice for the nomination, but i was disappointed with how his campaign was run.
Jake: You're too strong to give up. Don't despair. I just got back from a walk, and even here in Moscow by the Bay, there are flags everywhere. We're down, but we're not out. Think Valley Forge. The Declaration, the Constitution and that glorious flag have been temporarily obscured, but the fog will lift, and America will shake off its lethargy and remember what Ronald Reagan said. It is indeed, still morning in America.
With a name like Smooth Thug, I'm sure you have plenty of experience taking care of children, right? I hope my tax dollars are helping you pay for that malt liquor you like so much.
Liberals a only good for a few things,Supporting unions that they need because they are incapable of supporting themselves, telling others how to run there lives and fertilizer. To make a statement based on oh thats right Nothing is just like a Liberal,Goofy.I would trust Sarah Palin over any Liberal that has ever lived.
Palin is the read deal. Everywhere she goes she generates excitement/crowds. Anyone that can garner this much irrational hate from the left is on the right track. If she assembles the right team and decides to run for president, she just might capture lighting in a bottle and be our first woman president.
If that did happen, can you imagine the look on Hillary's face?
Liked the article. Sarah is brilliant.
Your disdain for Christians like Pat Robertson and Sarah Palin lead me to believe that you either don't believe in or don't like God all that much…either way I'm sure He'll be crushed when He finds out. Your argument for McCain is pretty moot, by the way – it looks like even being a "genuine war hero" couldn't attract the pod people who voted for Obama instead. But I'm sure that's Sarah's fault as well, right?
While I'm celebrating my country's independence (however fleeting it may be these days) later today, I'll make sure I toast to you and the hope I have that one day you'll get a clue.
[...] the bullshit thrown at her and her famiily? Or is she gearing up for a run for President in 2012? The latter would seem far fetched, as it doesn’t make a lot of sense (at least to me) to step down from a position that would [...]
This is my speculation. I think that she will spend the next year and a half campaigning for Conservative candidates. In the mean time, her book will come out and she will have traveled all across the lower 48. Her knowledge of politics both foreign and domestic will increase exponentially.
At the start of the next Congress (2011), she will at that point decide to either enter the race for President or become the kingmaker.
All the talk about how she is unelectable should remember that most people in Alaska didn't give her a snowball's chance in hell of becoming Governor. She won.
Dobama the great community organizer I think not.Let me see in the order of great things accomplished it goes something like this.citizen, town council, mayor, senator, congressmen, governor, community organizer and than president. To hell with the blinders just open your eyes but im sure this wont help you since you need a brain to process the incoming info.
So what makes Sara so great? So perform terrible at the debates. She governed a state that has less population than the amount of people in Tampa Bay, Florida. So to me she is no different than a very good looking mayor.
Didnt your mother ever teach you to NEVER under estimate a Women. Then again by your comment you might have been hatched not born.My mother on the other hand raised 6 children on her own.Two went to collage three own their own buisnesses and the youngest is a mother raising three children of her own, all by the way while being crippled by polio. After i gained the wisdom of age and site back and ponder i am totally in awe of my mom.If she could do this I know girls can do anything. You should change your name to lets say Neanderthal or better yet idiot look the word up or have someone do it for you.
Test
What ever she has planned and whether we love her or not, we should not forget the
republicans that are sticking knives in her at this very moment. Including Jon Mc and his loser campaigndroids.
Also, the fact she has apparently not told even her closest "advisers" tells us that she
( rightfully ) trusts no one. Hopes she dumps the "R" from her name.
The arrogance of Palin detractors will help propel her higher and higher…work-a-day Americans can and will identify with her more and more as the elitists on the left and in the press attack her, it makes make her even more a person they can relate with. The "high and mighty" attitude about her education is just a distraction. Didn't BIDEN get kicked out of school for plagerism? YES! Didn't Teddy " the Murderer" Kennedy FLUNK OUT OF HARVARD? YES! Ya, really nice examples of stellar liberal academic achievement indeed…
It amazes me how any decent human being can still support the liberal agenda in light of their hateful and evil attacks on innocent children, such as the Palin children. Do they not see how the democrats in Alaska are wasting their own tax payer's money to hurt Sarah Palin? Do they not see that power is their only agenda and will sell their own state or country out to get that power? I truly find it incredible. Are they brainwashed, stupid, or just without any decency?
Regarding Sarah–Go Sarah, Go!
Why don't we all take a page out of Ms. Palin's book and, well, just chill!
Did it ever occur to anyone that maybe she is just tired? Tired of being a whipping post to the left and a cult hero to the right? Both opinions of her come with an extraordinary set of pressures.
Can everybody just leave her be for a while? Can the libs stop beating her up? Can the conservatives stop raising the bar of expectations for her beyond human comprehension?
I am not a fan but, in simple human terms, but the time has come to say enough is enough and to give her a break.
Good luck, Ms. Pailn
Palin will be a celebrity on the national stage. By 2012, she will probably have to think twice about accepting a nomination for the Presidency, coming as it would with what will undoubtedly be a significant pay cut…
"You have chosen the Evening, but my love is given to the Morning. And my heart forebodes that soon it will pass away forever."
Note to Democrats: Be afraid. As a loose cannon, Sarah Palin can put you in a world of hurt.
Here I am complaining about SP's grammar. I should do a better job of proofing my own posts – but who has the time?
Would love to see the look on Hillary's face.
Didn't I just read something about Newt? Didn't he cheat on his wife while she was recovering from cancer?
Isn't that way more evil than what Sanford did? Aren't we calling for the heads of philanderers on pikes in the town square?
Oh, suuuure. Quitting in the middle of her first term was a maneuver of Machivellian cunning. Oh, woe is us, we liberals are quaking in our boots.
Perry – Palin 2012
Wrecking the economy is shrewd? Obamanomics will make it easy for the dim Dems to lose power. Sarah may not run for president but she will have a hand in getting the Obamacrats out of office. That's all that matters at this point.
Didnt your mother ever teach you to NEVER under estimate a Women. Then again by your comment you might have been hatched not born.My mother on the other hand raised 6 children on her own.Two went to collage three own their own buisnesses and the youngest is a mother raising three children of her own
Um, who wrecked the economy? Hint: It was a major political party, first letter R, last letter N. That's why you guys got your asses kicked in November, remember?
There is no way she could win a primary if she ran for President now. No way. Even Ed Rollins [Republican consultant and in Reagan's White House] said this makes her look like a kook rather than a serious politician. You don't quit before your term is out. If she were serious she would stay to the end as Governor and get things done in her state.
I think she resigned because she can get a whole lot more on the speaking circuit and with a book deal. She will still be a presence out there but 2012 will more than likely be Romney or possibly some unknown who will run in the election for the GOP.
If she's such a nitwit and knucklehead who quit why would that hag Maureen Dowd print such invective. Surely she's not a threat anymore.
I gonna try this again……..Jindal is someone I really want to see succeed. As I said in my post above people in Louisiana really seem to like him, as do a large number of Republicans and Independents across the country. If he can improve on his public speaking skills I think we will have a winner.
Something I put in my dissapearing post that 's worth repeating is about an Indian (from India) friend of mine. He had never heard of Jindal until I said something about him. My friend , was absolutely "giddy" at the idea of someone of his ethnicity running for President. He also seemed to be very impressed by his politics, which is the most important part.
He now has a Jindal in 2012 bumpersticker on the back of his car, as do his wife and children. It's a huge untapped voting group. No?
more……………………………..
As I said above, Romney would be good in treasury, but he'd also be good as President, Vice President, or even Sec.of State. He is supremely qualified for most any job in Washington. It's his negatives that I worry about. But most of these could be overcome in a debate between himself and Obama. The phrase "wipe the floor" comes to mind….Conservatives just need to except that we will never have another Ronald Reagan and just get behind one strong canidate for the good of the country……………
I'll tell you who are delusional: The idiots who ran like lemmings to the ballot box and voted for someone who is shaping up to be the worst president in our history. A person who has a neo-Marxist agenda to turn the USA into a society controlled by a socialist apparatus. This cunning and deplorable would be dictator, marketed to the brain numbed nit wits, didn't have the qualifications to be voted dog catcher let alone president. The Left;s hatred and abuse of Sarah Palin makes me realise just how petrified they are of anyone – let alone a woman – who stands for the things that made this country great. She scares them witless and if it didn't we wouldn;t see the spieful, venom spitting attacks against her.
This posting problem really is a pain in the keester…………………………………………
Ya true, that's a big "negatory" for Newt…IF ANY Liberal/Democrat brings up a "lack of experience" critcizing Republicans HA! LOL! Hussein Obama is the least experienced fraud and mistake to ever take the oath of office…
You sir understand nothing of Alaskan politics. She could not speak up on national issues w/out having to face a shit storm of controversy by people who did not try to hide the fact that they were paid political bloggers of the Alaskan Democratic party. She was followed home on Nov 5, 2008 by an army of paid Rahm accolates to try to destroy her political numbers in Alaska. I bet Rahm never dreamed Sarah might be on his turf 24/7 stirring up shit.
i'm going to be fascinated with how the palin supporters spin this when the federal indictments come out in the next few weeks against her. perhaps she wasn't aware that it's illegal for public tax dollars to be used to build her own private residence, or to make a deal with "buddies" to do so in exchange for guaranteed contracts for expensive local sporting complexes. this woman is no savior. this woman is no leader. this woman is a snake, just like 99 percent of ALL the politicians in washington. the very possibility that she could get the republican nomination in 2012 shows just how demoralized and irrelevant the republican party truly is. you folks will be lucky to unfilibuster the senate, let along regain any sort of real political or moral control of this country. evolve or perish.
"The question is whether the next step is going to be 'The Phantom Menace' or something that doesn’t suck." LOL! Let's hope we already had that one, what with the focus on cute little kids and lefty "journalists" staking out Alaska to get any kind of dirt on her that they could. They were kind of shadowy and phantomy, right? "We're not here. You didn't see us." They were also lame, which pretty much makes the analogy complete.
I hope "A New (Non-Obama) Hope" is on its way (and not a revelation of some lame sickness or scandal or some other possible reason for her resignation).
Give your party a name and address Sarah. I can't wait to send money.
Since you kicked off the piece with a movie analogy, I believe Sarah's sudden resignation can best be explained by the 'shoot the hostage' discussion between Jeff Daniels' and Keanu Reeves' characters at the beginning of the movie "Speed".
>Taking away the job that gave her the only experience a very inexperience candidate had, isn't going to do her any favors either
it worked for whatsisname, Obama
Whatever she does, the hard Left and moderate GOP are going to be slaughtered in 2010 and 2012. The approaching trainwreck is firmly in their hands. LOL!
Blue dog democrats, Independents, Libertarians and Conservatives are going to butcher the Left at the polls!
Let the talking heads keep doing just that…they have nary a clue as to what's going on in the working middle American world, we are pissed.
RussRamey6 Lima, Ohio
Wow, a large amount of spewage with nothing backing it up.
Someone's spinning and it isn't the "palin supporters" at this point.
Not to defend Newt, but the Sanford affair was worse — he abandoned his post and took off for Argentina without telling anyone where he was going! It wasn't merely a question of morals, but a question about his fitness for office.
It's a wrap.
Palin used to be relevant because she was a governor, and a punching bag for late night lefty comedians. Now she is officially relevant only as a punching bag for lefty late night comedians.
If she quit to protect her family, then she did the right thing. If she quit in order to run in 2012, then it's a boneheaded move.
Game over.
ps., what the Democrat mainstream media (redundant, I know) did to Palin and her family guarantees that I will vote Democrat again when hell freezes over — never.
wr1-
Who would have thought Barry Soetero, slacker, neighborhood organizer, quasi-Muslim, can't make it as lawyer, un-releasing academic writing, vote-abstaining junior congressman would make it to President?
Blah blah blah…………Blagojevich, Durbin, Burris, Rangel, Jefferson, Geitner, Dodd and on and on and all you liberal morons can do is harp on someone who hasn't done anything wrong. You can speculate all you want and make any accusations you can think of and still Sarah Palin has done nothing wrong except tie you panties in a knot……….Get over it you sniveling little troll……………………….How about a prediction from me! Obama, a one term President………………….
Snort! That's a good one, Patrick! (If Andrea spins any worse, his head is going to look like Linda Blair's – with the pea soup!)

I think that just shows that Sanford has an adventurer's soul, and that we have little tolerance for the thing in men that makes them most interesting. If he were born in an earlier century we would've been reading about him to this day.
Besides, the ability to withstand the temptations of one vice, does not mean that the ability exists to withstand all temptations. We all have our flaws, I think we should be concerned with those that affect their sworn duties, not our sense of morality.
Sorry Patrick Chester. Hit the wrong reply button. Pukes like this get me a little worked up……..
"Let the talking heads keep doing just that…they have nary a clue as to what's going on in the working middle American world, we are pissed.
Russ – you've nailed it. I am certain that Palin is set to tap into that massive sea of voter discontent. In a cruel way, her suffering at the hands of the party elite (and the media) mirrors exactly the pain we voters have suffered – and are suffering. We've been betrayed also. And we want to fight back. And who better to lead us than one who's endured exactly what we've endured? In fact, Sarah's endured far worse. Personally, I'd have reached for the shotgun after those people came after MY kids! That Sarah's kept her cool and her dignity just astounds me. This woman is my leader any day.
Does anyone think that the US will vote for a candidate who can't be asked a question by Katie Couric?
Even if Sarah does turn out to be a great political mover and shaker in the next couple of years, I still have the unhappy conviction that trying to save the country at this point is about as worthwhile as trying to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.
I think we've peaked as a nation already. Trying to prevent our reversion to barbarism would be an exercise in futility.
No problems, figured out from the content that you were probably not responding to me.
Saw this rumor spreading on other blogs. No facts to back it up, they're just repeating it over and over again. Guess someone's a bit worried that Sarah might not be down for the count and has unleashed the flying monkeys yet again.
wow primer, are you a sore-loser or WHAT! i'm sure you have nightmares with the number 60 in them all the time, but let's keep it in the fairway, shall we? politicians DO lie, cheat and steal, and i'm talking about democrats AND republicans. before we start calling me all sorts of nasty names, let me state for the record that i'm NOT a democrat, and i did NOT vote for obama, kerry, OR gore. and just for a reality check, to make sure you are not entirly blinded by party hubris and the notion of republican infallibility, will you at least admit that mark sanford did something wrong? can we at least meet on that middle ground? now, onto palin. i suggest we make a deal. if what i am saying about her illegal use of taxpayer's money turns out to be true, will you be willing do dig through this blog archive and apologize to me and admit you were wrong? i'm perfectly willing to come here and admit i was wrong and apologize to you if it turns out that she is innocent. deal?
Exactly. The Left is just a little too eager to declare that Sarah Palin's career is over.
I find the argument that "how can you vote for someone who quit as governor?" to be rather disingenuous coming from a crowd that was all to eager to elect a President who was a junior Senator from Illinois with less than 1/2 a term under his belt and absolutely no executive experience.
How can I vote for Sarah Palin? Because she represents what I believe in _and_ she gives good speeches. That puts her one up on Barry.
BF Huckabee,
I'm a Catholic, not a Puritan — I know that we're all sinners, and that it's not my job to pass judgement — I understand human frailty, I know that I've got no business casting that first stone.
Sanford may indeed be one of the world's last great romantics (although I wonder what Mrs.Sanford would say about that), but my point is that his behavior DID affect his sworn duties.
Rest assured there's no scandal. Please read this just posted statement by Sarah's legal counsel:
http://www.conservatives4palin.com/
If anything, a few Alaskan liberal bloggers are probably "trying to see Russia" from their house right about now. 'Cuda will be able to go after them full throttle now. This is what the conservative movement needs more than anything right now. For the Ayres, Rahms, Axlerods to know that we finally have a team that is willing to go after them for everything they've got so they cannot keep destroying hard-working Americans.
If she is serious about making a run even with the amount of press she has gotten, she can't do it as Governor of Alaska. Sure many President's come from Governorships. She needs the time to draw up support and $$$$ that the national stage can provide.
My latest toon on the reason Palin is leaving office.
<a href=”http://beartoons.com/2009/07/04/bearman-cartoon-r…” target=”_blank”>http://beartoons.com/2009/07/04/bearman-cartoon-r…
Kurt, your apologia is beyond silly, your hopes beyond reason.
Mrs Palin lost, and will lose again, because she is simply a dunce. She is ill-read, ill-educated, and utterly ill-prepared to lead the nation. She is photogenic, to be sure. But as with Dan Quayle before her, we have learned that a pretty face is never enough.
We have just suffered eight years of a President who could barely speak English, drove us into bankruptcy and into war with the wrong enemy, and proved to be as shallow a cheerleader as we have ever endured. Now you want more of the same? At least Mr Bush actually fulfilled his electoral obligations in Texas before seeking higher office. Mrs Palin? Mayor of Wassila (pop 7000) and 2.5 year Governor of Alaska (pop 654,000, the equivalent of a small city in Texas). What's the matter with you people? Do you WANT America to fail?
Electing Mrs Palin means electing a woman who believes in witchcraft (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kj-on3kfWuE), is opposed to evolution (like opposing gravity, one would imagine), teaches abstinence to little effect in her own family, whose husband has supported Alaskan secession (talk about traitors to America), and who mangles the language every time she attempts to speak it.
People who cannot speak clearly cannot think clearly. Period. Her disastrous interview on CBS is surely proof of this. Her media conference yesterday demonstrates that even her PREPARED remarks are incoherent.
Most of us are tired of being led by nitwits. Mrs Palin may make a great Basketball Barracuda. Intellectually, she's just another dead fish: flopping, failing and foolish.
Surely you guys can offer someone who is at least half-bright… no?
I like her as well but she could have finished the term she was elected to.
Really, I know your spiritual predecessor said a lie repeated often enough becomes true, but you really shouldn't presume the people here get their information solely from major news networks.
Really, I know your spiritual predecessor said a lie repeated often enough becomes believed as the truth, but you really shouldn't presume the people here get their information solely from major news networks.
Nope not a sore loser! I am from Illinois! I've seen this freak show before! This is Rod Blgojevich on a national stage!
And for the record I was a registered Independent until Obama was elected.
To the point of Sarah Palin. The story you speak of is "a nothing story" it has died and been buried several times, yet some peope with an unhealthy fixation on Palin keep dragging it's corpse from the coffin………It's a non-starter…
But I'll take that deal, only, if you put the same sort of zeal into condeming the lack of an investigation into Dick Durbin's insider trading as you do going after Palin. But no one cares that he's profiting off of other peoples misery. He's a friend of Barry's, so he's safe
And…………..Sanford is an Idiot, but it hasn't cost me a dime so I don't care……………..
Don't know about that one, but the "administrator vacuum" is back for sure!
I gather you get yours from Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and the other radio clowns. Fair enough. It certainly beats thinking for yourself, which must be a great comfort.
The rest of us simply observe what Mrs Palin actually says, and how she says it, and draw self-evident conclusions. The conservative movement in our country has been advanced by serious thinkers (William Buckey, Bill Kristol, Irving Kristol, Norman Podhoretz, et al) and principled conservative leaders (Barry Goldwater, Bob Dole, Alan Simpson, et al). Every one of them will have read Friedrich Hayek and Milton Friedman, and understood him.
Mrs Palin? She is simply not a serious person, and utterly unfit to lead either the conservative movement, or our country. Her behavior is enough to give narcissism a bad name.
I agree with you bato65. I'm afraid Palin fans are grasping at straws about this somehow being a positive. A Governor should serve out their term if they possibly can. If they do not, then they are just a quitter. If this is not a health or family reason, then there is just no good excuse whatsoever, none, zilch, zero, nada, zip.
I just don't know what she could be thinking.
I also agree with you I will never vote Democrat again. I'm embarrassed to say I voted that way for most of my life.
I gather you get yours from Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and the other radio clowns. Fair enough. It certainly beats thinking for yourself, which must be a great comfort.
You don't gather very well. Just the usual programmed macros ("radio clowns") when faced with someone not buying your claims. As for inability to think for oneself and comfort levels, well there's a little thing known as projection that you might want to look up.
…and now just argument by assertion based on your personal prejudices. Ho hum.
So you expect federal charges over a misuse of state funds instead of her state bringing them up, brought to you by the Justice Department that obeyed orders and let those Black Panthers get away with voter intimidation, thus you expect what can be easily interpreted as the President using the power of the government to take down a strong political rival. Very interesting. And you support and expect that?
Also, you are not a registered Democrat, and have not voted for those candidates. Are you allowed to vote in this country? If so, would you mind saying who you did vote for?
You are so correct! No teleprompter needed for Sarah!
I go on and on about Illinois way way too much, but I just can't seem to get my head around how anybody could think Obama is Presidential material. Haven't they ever seen any of his early interviews or speeches? If you didn't know better you would have thought he was a "Special Needs" person. The only differance now is that they gave him a teleprompter……..Sorry but I'll take the lovely young lady who can field strip a moose over the skinny dork who can pick out fresh arugula any day of the week……….
Numbers to think about….
in 2012, Mrs. Palin will be 48.
In 2016 Mrs. Palin will be 52.
and in 2020 Mrs. Palin will be 56.
In any case, she'll still be young enough to impact the country and conservatism. The next decade could be very interesting for Mrs. Palin, no matter WHEN she decides to run for president.
I posted at another thread earlier today: Sarah Palin's decision yesterday to resign as governor has those on the left going absolutely batsh_t. They are coming apart at the seams. She is 'in their heads'. They can't take it. According to Drudge, Maureen Dowd is first up and will help make my point tomorrow morning.
Pass the Cheerios…
NY TIMES Op-Ed Queen Maureen Dowd runs out of adjectives and insults while ripping away at Alaska
Governor Sarah Palin in an upcoming Sunday column.
Palin is "one nutty puppy", in the mind of Dowd, newsroom sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT, with "erratic and egoistic behavior".
Dowd spits her holiday barbecue in 800 words, designed for fireworks.
"Exquisite battiness… solipsistic meltdown so strange… incoherent, breathless and prickly… Sarah's country-music melodramas… girlish burbling."
Or maybe she's just a mother who can't justify watching her children attacked by political ideologues like Letterman, Couric, Gibson and the DNC.
Only the American Bolshies used words and character assassination instead of bullets. Perhaps if the Russian Bolsheviks had had as effective propagandists as the American media, it wouldn't have been necessary to shoot the family.
And then I had an awful sinking feeling.
Happy dependence day to all the liberal parasites. Get on your knees slaves and pray to your Barry you love him so, that Sarah doesn't run. Enjoy the leftist lunacy while you can the conservatives will be back soon, you may have to get a job yet. Happy dependence day slaves!
Sarah Palin regardless what she does is a remarkable self made woman I only wish her and her family the best. If she does run in 2012 Barry will be sent home and ooze around with his fellow liberals.
I saw an article posted almost immediately after Palin's announcement that listed possible reasons for a resignation and one that came up was "unknown" charges against her– which the author of the article pretty much dismissed. The Left apparently liked that idea and decided to run with it– completely unfounded of course. But, that's how they operate. Don't bother with this troll. I've run across her before– nothing more than babbling troll speak ad-nauseum.
Hmmm…wishful thinking? Perhaps you have not read the resume of the current occupant of the White House. Oh wait – he hasn't ever held a job…In case you have not noticed the people that are running this country into the ground have never had a real job in a real business. The Palins have owned businesses and run them with no assistance necessary.
At least she probably studied the factual History & Geography of The USA (and she was actually born here). I believe I will be happy to stand behind someone who is a good shot.
I do not have any idea why she left the govenorship. But I do know that there is sleeping giant in this country that no conservative has brought to life. If she starts fighting all the crazy crap put out by Soro's puppets then she will lead this giant to a God fearing nation again. GOD (not allah) will bless America!!!
Hey Patrick: you write reasonably well, and so "I gather" you have an education.
If so, how can you stand having your party led by someone as silly and self-serving as this Mrs Palin? Like most Americans, I see how see speaks, and draw self-evident conclusions. She talks like an enthusiastic Barbie. That's what most people gather, and correctly so. Her own words are all the evidence anyone requires.
Did you watch the video with 'Rev' Muthee? Unless you too believe in witchcraft, Mrs Palin made a complete fool of herself in the company of such a charlatan. What next? Snake-handling?
Your party has been led by some very intelligent people: Pres Eisenhower, the first President Bush, even the anti-semitic crook Richard Nixon, and by such well-informed subalterns as Henry Kissinger, Condoleeza Rice, James Baker, Jack Kemp, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Alan Simpson, Orrin Hatch, etc etc.
How can you possibly compare Mrs Palin to any of these serious people? With all respect, she's just sort of… goofy.
Right On, Right On, Right On!!!!
Very nice! I don't think Barry and the boy's have figured out yet that the Independents (the voters that put him over the top) aren't in his camp any more. They seem to be the first of what I suspect will be a mass exodus as time goes on…………
you are an idiot. if o ever had a tough interview he would have shown what an imbecile he was. katie has an audience of around 10 people.
Jimmy, Jimmy: all that the country needs to know is what Mrs Palin has told us. She's a quitter. After 2.5 years on the job, she dishonored her electoral contract with the people of Alaska. She broke her word when taking the oath of office. It's really pitiful.
If she had to resign because of health, or her children, fair enough. But she quit for what she imagines is political advantage, and that's a very different matter. Such behavior is self-serving and disloyal.
Do you really think this recommends her for higher office? If so, only in your circles.
The rest of America sees her for what she is: an airhead serving her interests first and last, the people of Alaska (and the US) be damned. Again, it's just pitiful.
Her word doesn't seem to be worth very much, as the people of Alaska have just learned.
Mrs Palin has simply proven that she is a quitter, self-serving and disloyal.
She took an Oath of Office to the people of Alaska; now, for reasons of imaginary political advantage, she abandons her own voters and her own state. It is clear that her word and her promise mean nothing.
Americans don't admire quitters.
Your voice just betrayed the good people of Alaska. She took an Oath of Office, and has now broken it. Apparently her word means nothing.
No American admires a quitter.
Sarah is a strong leader and if she runs for President she will get my vote.
My request to her in the meantime is to formulate her policies so that she has thought out proposals to address the economy, health care, the deficit, social security, immigration, foreign policy and the rest of the issues on folks minds these days. I think Sarah will be great on fiscal policy and would like to see her moderate some on social policy.
We need you Sarah.
I like Sarah Palin. Her book will be a number one best seller and will break records. Contrast that with Nancy Pelosi's book. I think the Speaker of the House's book sold 2000 copies max with all that free publicity on the MSM.
There is justice in this Universe and it gives me great pleasure and a good laugh.
Sarah Palin Rocks. Go Sarah.
But what about Mrs Palin's "sworn duties"?
All that the country needs to know is what Mrs Palin has told us. She's a quitter. After 2.5 years on the job, she dishonored her electoral contract with the people of Alaska. She broke her word when taking the oath of office. It's really pitiful.

…and leading questions added to the personal prejudices. Surprise, surprise. Incorrect guess about me yet again. So sorry. I just read a lot.
Oh and the video? Doesn't work. If you mean the blessing against witchcraft she received from some African reverend, I believe its called being polite and respectful of other cultures. Sort of how an agnostic like myself would say "thank you" when someone said "bless you" or that they were praying for me. IIRC, it didn't involve any blood sacrifice or anything. Just a bit of prayer. Really, did you think I hadn't heard that one and looked a bit deeper?
Thanks for helping confirm that you really aren't seeking a discussion. Just assertion, assertion, and oh, assertion. Comfortable presumptions based on prejudices against certain looks, accents, lack of "proper' schooling. I guess we have an aristocrat class after all.
Hey Patti Babe: all that the country needs to know is what Mrs Palin has told us. She's a quitter. After 2.5 years on the job, she dishonored her electoral contract with the people of Alaska. She broke her word when taking the oath of office. It's really pitiful.

"The only way Obama loses is if he runs our economy into the ground (pretty likely), in which case the last thing the voters will be looking for is someone with even less experience to take his place."
This predisposes the idea that we didn't get our last chance to choose a president in 2008. Am I ready for my tin foil hat or am I seeing a lot of indications that while Americans have the illusion of being able to vote, our votes are, how shall we say it? Negotiable?
Ted Stevens was indicted in time for the Alaskan Senatorial vote. Interesting how the charges were dropped after he lost. Alaska has a Democratic Senator for the next six years. Would the Alaskans have liked to have the opportunity to revote?
When Christine Gregoire (WA) lost a close race for governorship, the votes were recounted. Twice. Only when she was ahead did the recounts stop.
ACORN is getting millions from taxpayers to "get out the vote". Why do I think they're not interested in getting out Republican or non-Democrat/non-Socialist votes?
Al Franken. Need I say more?
What about the Black Panthers intimidating voters in PA — something Eric Holder doesn't think is worth prosecuting.
And Georgia's trying to clean out the dead people from their voter roles. That one ran afoul of Holder, too.
And FOUR Scotus Judges saying it's okay to discriminate against white people? Somehow that got lost in the reporting.
I hate to be a Cassandra, but I'm sure the people of Venezuela thought they were going to have a shot at voting again after they elected Chavez. People foolishly believe nothing bad can happen unless it has happened. Watching the attacks on Sarah Palin gave me a cold chill. All that was missing was the blood and the machetes.
Americans don't admire quitters.
Then why did they elect her Governor in the first place?
She actually had a job in the Alaska State Government and ended up resigning (e.g. QUITTING!) in protest from that previous job. I'm sure the voters in Alaska knew she was a dirty quitter back then, but she still got elected.
I guess it depends on why one might resign rather than the actual resignation. Alas, I doubt people will be as immediately prone to presume the absolute worst of someone simply because they look a certain way or have a "funny" way of speaking. Not everyone's a bigot, after all.
Judging from your rather rude postings here, I have a feeling you're worried people won't see things your way so you have to fling whatever you can in the hopes something can stick. Even old stuff.
Still with the "repeat it so often it magically becomes true" tactic?
Looks more like you're afraid that "the rest of America" doesn't see her the way you do so you keep spamming comments sections hoping people will follow your lead.
Hey Patrick: you didn't look deeply enough. Try again, please. The whole 'service' was grotesque, which a self-admitted agnostic might understand. This good 'reverend' also asked Jesus to help raise money for her campaign. Sheesh.
That said, you continue to defend the Barbie Doll of modern politics. Amazing. This is beneath you, or should be. If you don't have a formal education, you should try it sometime. You clearly have a brain, and that's all it takes.
As you'll discover, we don't have much of an aristocracy in our country. We do, however, strive for a meritocracy. Mrs Palin doesn't live in either league; rather, she belongs to a sad league of quitters.
She took an Oath of Office. Now, she has broken it. If this sad fact means as little to you as it evidently does to her, we're sorry to learn it. No real American admires a quitter.
…and now you're just recycling text.
when liberals squeal, it makes my day.
quitter.
dishonored.
pitiful.
airhead.
trent, trent…tell me, babe…how do you really feel?
…and now that I express disagreement with you I become a target for the personal attacks.
Typical.
Pick your target, isolate it, freeze it and keep repeating until it's destroyed.
For all your oh-so-pious concern over an oath, you are lacking in any semblance of honor. It's likely you haven't even bothered to look up the oath and just declared it broken so you could screech and hope people will fall for it.
I'll try to avoid being shattered by the disappointment of a bigot like yourself. Looks, speech patterns, religion, politics, etc.

Thanks for the advice! I am still kinda-sorta new too this forrest and am still learning which trolls live under which bridges:)
And the Palin story brings new meaning to the phrase "Beating a dead horse"…………..Just drop some Lilies on that ones grave and let it go already………………..
Well, Pat, your high dudgeon is a good joke.
You first wrote: "I know your spiritual predecessor said a lie repeated often enough", in a childish reference to Josef Goebbels.
Then, you wrote, "Judging from your rather rude postings here…"
C'mon, Pat, you don't see just a little bit of hypocrisy here? A double standard? I ignored your juvenile 'Big Lie' slur, and even now merely point out the inconsistency of your 'standards'. Pot? Meet kettle.
Nonetheless, the issue remains her fitness for high office. Apart from the commonly held view that she is an airhead, the inarguable fact remains that she took an Oath of Office as Governor. After 2.5 years she has found it convenient to break her word. Her promise. Her bond with the electors of Alaska.
I would have thought that might concern you. Just a little? No? Too bad. Even Richard Nixon only quit AFTER he was about to be impeached.
Personal attacks? Are you serious?
I wrote, " You clearly have a brain, and that's all it takes."
If you consider that an attack, so be it. But you have utterly missed the point. Merely being photogenic (Mrs Palin is certainly that) is not enough. Dan Quayle, as I wrote before, had a pretty face, too, and became the laughingstock of the nation.
We should try electing to office people who are fundamentally serious about public duty. Mrs Palin is, by her own declaration, a quitter. In America, we find this unacceptable.
Sarah Palin has a very good chance of being elected president…of the Wasilla Rod and Gun Club.
And when reactionaries defend airhead quitters like Mrs Palin, it makes for a very good laugh. Yours was once the party of honorable, duty-inspired men like Barry Goldwater, Bob Dole, Dwight Eisenhower, John McCain and many more.
And now Mrs Palin? Is she really the best you have? The very best? If so, you concede more than you will ever realize.
Oh come on… the man is developing that insanity defense day by day. Oo
*poop*

You are lying. Repeatedly. Even repeating the same posting over and over again. Obviously in the hope that it will be seen as true.
Perhaps I should have picked a Soviet propagandist so you wouldn't gasp in outrage at being compared to a Nazi. Or would you prefer Saul Alinsky. He had a similar methodology in his tactics.
Sorry if calling you on your antics is rude.
Do you read what you write???? Sane people DID vote for her. They were not too disapointed. She removed herself from the "game" to keep the true hatemongers, and outright LIARS from callingn her a "CHEATER".
The term delusional, as you mention, personifies a voter who believes that a man with 146 hours of government service, whom espouses the political ideology of Saul Alinski, and Jerimiah Wright, who was a professional rable rouser is qualified to be president. I wonder how much longer I will continue to see the Obama bumper stickers and lawn signs. They will soon be emblematic and synonomous with the terms: Sucker, dope, enabler, uninformed, anti american, and yes— DELUSIONAL!!!
"We should try electing to office people who are fundamentally serious about public duty"?????
Just passing through and thought I'd ask what your opinion of Obama is?
And one more if I may? Your opinion of the Chicago Church he attended for 20 years?
Her family is on the verge of bankruptcy because the Alaska Democrat establishment filled up the courts with baseless, frivolous ethics complaints against her, all of which were filed AFTER the election interestingly enough. It doesn't matter that EVERY SINGLE ONE of them was easily dismissed, she still has to pay the legal fees, which are in excess of half a million dollars, and this is not a wealthy family.
It wouldn't be a stretch to say that she hasn't really been governor since last August. Dealing with these pricks has taken up the majority of her time, and this orchestrated attack has not abated. It will only to continue to get worse for her family and for the citizens of her state. She had a permanent target on her back, she was honest enough to realize that she could no longer be an efficient executive, and she did what a responsible leader would do. I hope Mark Sanford is paying attention.
Hey, she got Michael Jackson off the TV for a day. Give her some credit.
Nice dodge. It was actually the patronizing "this is beneath you" remark.
You do not get to decide what is above or beneath me. Nor do you get to decide how much or how little something means to me. You can only assume based on your prejudices.
You also might want to avoid using "we" in such a presumptive manner. Or carry on, I am quickly getting tired of your repetitive style.
A 10/10 on the ROTFLMAO scale!
Thanks – this is the funniest thing I've seen yet on Palin's sudden resignation (& her even-more-surreal-then-usual farewell speech has already spawned a LOT of funny). I thought simplistic football metaphors for modern warfare were the ne plus ultra of raging idiocy, but national-politics-as-Star-Wars is even more ridiculous, albeit only nominally.
Rorty had a better shot at beating Nixon in 1972 than Palin has now of beating anyone to become POTUS, ever – let alone a political fox like Barack Obama (he compromises where she "stands firm," he brings in new allies where she alienates old ones, he rewards cooperation & compliance where she backstabs, he's lucid where she's ridiculously opaque, etc.) … yeah, that's just what America is crying out for right now – a woman who has yet to demonstrate any real competence in politics & who's now quit at least two big jobs the moment the workload went up above her comfort-level. Unfortunately, it's neither exaggeration nor slander to observe that she looks, sounds & behaves like somebody in dire need of a long stay at either a sanitorium or a detox facility.
She just quit her job for no apparent reason, right when her state needs her the most – & looked terrifyingly unstable & incoherent doing so. That this is someone you feel good about passing the nuclear football to says everything anyone ever needs to know about your political IQ.
Here's the Oath of Office sworn by Mrs Palin: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Alaska, and that I will faithfully discharge my duties as Governor to the best of my ability."
Anyone notice something odd here?
Either Mrs Palin's "best ability" was inferior to the demands of office, or she is simply a quitter. Either way, she broke her word, her bond, her promise. "Faithfully" means nothing to her.
When the electors of Alaska chose her, Mrs Palin entered into a contract. It was to serve the term of office to which she was elected. That's how it works in a democracy. Apparently this is just one of many things she never learned.
Being governor is not an office of personal convenience. It is a contract with a people — one she has now dishonored. Her misconduct is appalling.
In her first two years as a governor of what many perceive to be an insignificant state, she has already finalized a gas pipeline deal that will do more for American energy independence and create more jobs than the Kenyan Bastard-in-Chief could ever dream of.
She was also intelligent enough to realize that you don't promise middle eastern countries that you'll gut our nuclear strength the day after North Korea shoots a f**king missile at us!
You liberal sociopaths can insult her to your heart's content, but your phony thug messiah isn't good enough to lick the moose blood off her hunting boots.
I want a leader who leads.
I want a leader who leads in the right direction.
I want a leader I can be proud of and not cringe at.
"The President of Pop" – never again.
Hey Pat: it's not rude. It's just childish. You ignore the facts in order to defend the person. Fair enough, as long as you're honest about it.
The "we", btw, is the majority of Americans who opposed Mrs Palin. You're in a distinct minority, at least for now. Perhaps you didn't know this.
Here's another fact for you: the Oath of Office sworn by Mrs Palin. "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Alaska, and that I will faithfully discharge my duties as Governor to the best of my ability."
As you'll find elsewhere, either Mrs Palin's "best ability" was inferior to the demands of office, or she is simply a quitter.

I'm sure you agree. Well, maybe not. A fact is a stubborn thing. So is an Oath of Office.
She couldn't do her job because Axelrod's thug team in Alaska was clogging up the courts and her time with frivolous ethics charges, which are bankrupting her family. It doesn't matter that she was cleared of every single one of them. She knew it wouldn't stop, and that she couldn't be the governor that they needed. A star ball player knows when he should take himself out of the game.
BTW Obama abandoned his job as a senator as soon as he was elected to start running for President. At least Sarah accomplished a lot of what she set out to do.
So, Bob you never "got" Sarah. A lot of people felt squirmy about McCain's previous votes with Dems ( basically organized the defectors) and didn't want to support him. It was big in the news at the time. His heroic service to the country was his saving grace.
"Great Rack?" Interesting, you "put down" that poster, Whiskey for that kind of talk. Interesting….
Barry only served two years of his six year term as senator of Illinois, what of his contract?
Speaking of the drooling left and their frivolous ethics complaints–hell, lets just call it what it is, an orchestrated attack to ruin her and her family– I was just on the conservatives4palin site, and according to the latest posting, since she will soon be a private citizen, she and her lawyers are about to take all these bastards to court. Go Cuda!
Your love of the Magic “O” has no bounds, blessed be the Messiah, for he has spoken, and you as a brave disciple fearlessly on the attack, to be certain that your $13.00 a week are not diminished. While you mindlessly flog away where you’re not wanted, you pray for a fulfilled life of worthless mediocrity, and government servitude, and one day, maybe you can be Section eight’ed near the blessed “One.” So charge on you, “useful idiots,” and spread misery across, “the fruited plain,” and know that your love of the federal government is appreciated, and the “O” gives you a hearty thumbs up. Now, back on your knee’s, and grovel!
Well aside from the fact that your mom should have practiced it….or swallowed.
Go away lib. The lies are getting old.
When I first heard the news, I too assumed that Sarah was basically retiring from electoral politics (though not from politics per se) and my heart was broken.
Now, I'm not sure what she's up to. As so many others have stated, resigning her governorship gives the left, the liberal media, and the RINO turncoats a huge talking point against her. That said, when have they ever lacked for talking points?
All I know is that I support Sarah 100 percent no matter what she decides to do. She has my undying love, loyalty and devotion. More later.
No, he was still the one who had to grovel and lamely apologize.
Your PDS is showing. Please…… there are adults reading this.
Ok. You win. It's NOT beneath you.
It wouldn't surprise me if she has plans to start a third party. If she weren't so gracious I'm sure she'd have told the Repubs to FOAD.
I don't think she's looking at a Presidential run, at least not for 2012. It would be way too soon, and the media will use the "quitter" label ad nauseum.
too bad another blogger made this point about 12 hours before you did…why no credit for the source? http://templeofmut.wordpress.com/2009/07/03/if-yo...
Fringe candidates don't win the Presidency. She is on the fringe. No one is scared of her since she can't win.
No major achievements?
She forced her way into one of the most corrupt and entrenched political machines and cleaned it up. She broke the stranglehold that the oil companies had on the entire political structure. She got the gas pipeline authorized after three decades of oil execs and their political cronies preventing it, negotiated with a Canada to get it built and just recently got Exxon Mobil on board with it. Not only will it bring the US a new source of clean energy, but its construction will provide more jobs than Obama could ever dream of.
That alone, in her first two years as a state governor, is more than our current President will EVER accomplish. Maybe if the media had mentioned this instead of recycling the Tina Fey clips we wouldn't be on our way to being a Third World banana republic right now.
If she is the candidate, Obama could slip the country back into civil war and he'd still win. I'd prefer to have someone who could beat him, like every other Republican out there.
Will she resign the last two years of her presidency?
I agree. I really don't think a Presidential run is feasible, but she can do much more founding a think tank, a newsblog site, or even a third party. She does have a journalism degree, and considering what she was put through, I'd like to also see her get some media watchdog group started, along the lines of MRC or Newsbusters.
Andrea, "demoralized and irrelavant?" Why is it that is always the direction the liberals take? Do you honestly think that repeasting that tired phrase over and over again makes it true? Do you think that people actually care what the OPPOSING party thinks about them, and would believe everything you say?
Get a clue.
She's done more in her first two years as governor than your messiah will do in his lifetime. If you actually checked other sources besides Matt Damon and SNL you'd know that.
And just what did Obama govern? You ever been to the south Side of Chicago? What did all his "community organizing" efforts accomplish? Ask Jennifer Hudson.
"Best ability" is what you're basing your oh-so-shocked outrage upon?! Your own twisted definition of "faithfully" too? Why do I suspect you managed to find the Oath of Office after I speculated that you hadn't even read it and are now grasping at whatever you can to justify your claim.
"Best ability" was hampered by the crap your allies have been pulling. If it had been a natural disaster and she quit, you'd be right. A war? Same thing. Violating the US or the Alaska Constitution? That would be even worse. The libel and slander campaign, not to mention all the ethics charges that were dismissed only to have more charges filed were interfering with her abilities to faithfully discharge her duties as well, so that's a bust also. The term "extenuating circumstances" applies to this situation, something that escapes your either/or fallacy.
You might think you look morally superior with your pious outrage about Oaths and honor, but I don't believe you really care about such matters except when you can twist them to attack a person you don't like.
You ignore the facts in order to defend the person.
More like you ignore facts in order to defame the person… and you aren't honest about it. You will twist anything, embrace any tale so long as it hurts your target. Alinsky would be proud.
The "we", btw, is the majority of Americans who opposed Mrs Palin. You're in a distinct minority, at least for now. Perhaps you didn't know this.
Perhaps I don't care about claims of a majority.
Now go on, repeat the same old things over and over. I might get tired of responding and you might go unopposed and someone might actually swallow the narrative.
Here we see what trent and those like him want: an elite, book read, no life experence, so-called expert.
Obama has never run a lawnmower, let alone a business.
Obama has never fixed a car yet he can run GM.
Obama has never made payroll yet he can run banks.
Obama has never done more than put a bandaid on his girl's skinned knees yet he can fix healthcare.
Education means nothing unless there is experience and leadership to back it up. Otherwise its all hypothetical and standing on the shouldes of people who could APPLY what they learned. Obama is a bleak shadow compared to real people who know how to make decisions to help society.
After witnessing what she and her family has been subjected to this past year I have come to the conclusion that they do not have souls.
yawn.
Paln achieved everything she set out for, what are you talking about?
Since November the attacks continue to keep pressing on her. The liberals are trying to box her in, trying to keep her off balance, trapping her in her role as Govenor, keeping up with false ethics claims and drowning her in legal fees.
She does not need to be Govenor, she has done what she set out to do.
Palin has done something no politician was expecting: she gave up power. She willingly and openly cast it off. She's an open agent now. She is already a household name. She has only left Alaska four times since 11/08, and each time is met with headlines. She has a different kind of power, one we gave her.
The liberals are off balance. They don't know what to do with her. She's not playing by their rules.
Go Sarah. Kick butt.
And that job would prepare her more to be president than being a 4 year senator (and then quitting) did for Barack Obama.
And that job would prepare her more to be president of the USA than being a 4 year senator (and then quitting) did for Barack Obama.
"Your disdain for Christians like Pat Robertson and Sarah Palin lead me to believe that you either don't believe in or don't like God all that much…
Never met the guy. Biography made him sound kinda scatterbrained, to put it mildly… though his son seemed like a pretty chill fella.
"MovieBob, the reason we were excited about it is because she actually reflects conservative principles in a charismatic, and, yes, attractive, package."
Except she doesn't. She ran Alaska like a veritable Princess of Pork and "discovered" small-government principals as a VP nominee. I've never heard her articulate a single position other than on intellectually worthless "social issues" that didn't sound like memorized boilerplate. She doesn't have conservative principles, she has RELIGIOUS BELIEFS – they are not the same thing, and the sooner the GOP remembers that the sooner we'll have two viable parties in this country again.
As far as I'm concerned – REGARDLESS of ones personal creed or lack thereof – in terms of how we approach the world there are fundamentally two kinds of people: Thinkers and Believers. Palin is a Believer (so are most "liberals," incidentally) and I'm not in the habit of voting for Believers whatever letter they want to stick in front of their name.
OK. You can go to bed. Dream of Sarah.
PDS? Pigment dispersion syndrome? Princeton Day School? Your allusion makes no sense. I'm sure you can do better. You betcha.
You make my point exactly. Thanks!
I didn't vote for Mr Obama, and I know nothing of his church. I have read 'sermons' by Jeremiah Wright, and a good many of them strike me as racist and foolish. I don't think Mr Wright believes in witches, but you never know…
Morally superior? Hardly. I'm just an American who deplores the sheer half-literate ignorance of so many of our elected officers, left or right. Mrs Palin is, at present, Exhibit A in that gallery. This is not, I think, an issue of morality, nor have I ever described it that way. You did.
So your pining over the Oath was a cynical ploy. Oh sorry, I guess you don't consider that based on morality.
Btw, you were the one making the claim about the Oath so it was your responsibility to find it and try to prove your point. I actually did a cursory search, then realized I would be doing your homework for you. So I waited to see if you'd find it.
"More like you ignore facts in order to defame the person.. " — well said! Good riposte. Tell the truth now: could you ever, in a hundred years, imagine Mrs Palin capable of such a witty rejoinder? We both know the answer.
Actually, we both know what YOU want the answer to be. Nothing more.
Subtle difference.
…and you're becoming a broken record. More of the aristocratic presumptions about people who don't fit into your mold of a leader of this country. You hold certain types of people as fit to serve in higher government and presume others (Bush, Palin) do not. Your desire will inevitably lead to a ruling class for this country as opposed to of the People, by the People, for the People. Pity you don't notice, but then your up to the same smug assumptions I've seen before.
Perhaps that tells you something. Perhaps it doesn't.
Nothing new since you wandered onto this thread. You're a bigot based on politics, regions, "proper" education and religion.
No longer worth my time.

No, he's just another bigot. Nothing specific to Palin, she's just of the "wrong sort" of person to him. If another person who doesn't match his criteria for government work comes along, he'll be savaging that person as well.
A brilliant move by Governor Palin. She would be an excellent chess player. Always two or three moves ahead of her opponent. She can now become Obama's Achilles Heel. I was in the crowd when McCain introduced her for the 1st time last fall in Dayton and she electrified the crowd. The left has been wondering who the spokesperson is for the new Conservative Party (fka Republican), I think we now know. She may even start out as a new spokesperson for the Fair Tax. Then team up with Governor Huckabee for 2012. Not sure yet who would be at the top of the ticket but either way, they would have my vote!
Palin’s 4th of july message from her facebook account…
http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=99477538...
Palin’s press release on her resignation as Governor…
http://www.gov.state.ak.us/exec-column.php
“But I have given my reasons… no more “politics as usual” and I am taking my fight for what’s right – for Alaska – in a new direction.”
“We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”
“I do not want to disappoint anyone with my decision; all I can ask is that you trust me with this decision – but it’s no more “politics as usual”. ”
Nowhere does she say she is ‘quitting’. On the contrary, she makes it clear that she will remain active in politics, on a national level, for the benefit of both Alaska and the nation.
Sorry, Loco, but the only people off-balance here are Mrs Palin and her acolytes.
She broke her oath of office, and her promise to her own electors. Her media conference was a rambling mess of self-congratulations and incoherence. Her narcissism has become clinical. Her unreliability has become endemic.
Even leaders of her own party have declared that her quitting was reckless.
The liberals I know are delighted by her latest foolish stunt. The conservatives I know are appalled. In both cases, no wonder.
Well, like most other lib harpies, Dowd is deeply envious of her success, her happiness, her beauty, her fertility, and the fact that she has a hot husband and a pretty hot sex life.
That's only because Obama could rape a teenage girl on the WH lawn and the press would still cover for him. If Sarah does make a shot at the Presidency, Obama's propaganda arm will bring up the "quitter" label every five minutes and cram it into every orifice of every American.
NEWSFLASH idiot. That isn't the only interview she's ever done. IT's just that you libs have been playing that five-second soundbite in a loop inside your heads for almost a year now. I swear I think its a masturbatory thing with you guys.
Of course you obviously didn't bother to watch her interviews last month with Lauer and Blitzer. She owned those interviews and had those guy's nuts in a vise. For that reason, the media swept them under the rug and never mentioned them again.
Palin clearly gave at least 7 her reasons for leaving you sad dummies. Alask is in good hands. Parnell is Palin in pants. She is going to go to EVERY Republican fund raiser she can get into her schedule. She draws huge crowds who will pay big bucks. She is going to pound the Conservative montra into all the squishy Reps that think like Colin Powell ( middle of the road , inclusive crap) and she will turn the herd before it drives itself off the cliff.
A CIVILIAN, she is not a sitting target for Late Night lefties, Sunday Morning Political show lefties, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN reporters / anchor lefties, Hollywood / The View lefties, Comedy Central/ Tina Fey lefties, tired old pieces like Maureen Dowd, the dying NY Times, Newsweek, Times Mag.or the never read ouside NYC, Vanity Fair lefties. No longer a "public figure" she just took the air out of all their balloons. How pathetic will it be for them to continue to mock her or her kids? She must have said 7 times she is not leaving politics… just not going down a road she knows to be booby trapped . Born on the 4th of JULY !! You kept messin' with a grizzly momma now let's see what you reap.
You've got it. Admirably! Well done.
Hi Loco: you miss the point. I offer no defense of Mr Obama. Not even one word.
I only observe that Mrs Palin is utterly unqualified to lead and manage the greatest nation in the world. It is now clear that half of her own campaign team appears to feel the same way. Former Alaska Governor Wally Hickel, on 11 June 2009, released a statement concerning Mrs Palin, whom he originally supported.
"“When Governor Sarah Palin was elected in 2006, we believed she would put Alaska first. But once elected, she put Sarah first.
"Because of her national ambitions, she is promoting an agenda that will allow Outside corporations to dominate Alaska’s resources, including our energy and the jobs it provides." [SOURCE: Office of Governor Walter Hickel, and Juneau Empire, ibid.]
She continues to put Sarah first. I thought you might have noticed. Maybe not.
Sorry Pat, but once again you try to defend mediocrity, and ignorance, and recklessness — ie, Sarah Palin. She leads a good cheer, takes a good photo, and no doubt makes a good hockey mom.
But does this qualify her for the Presidency? Hardly.
Your use of the word 'bigot' is weird, btw, and a leaky refuge. Because it is so far-fetched, and so juvenile, I take no offense. If that's the best you can do, I understand.
Sarah Palin is unqualified. Not very bright. Take a look again at her CBS interview, and consider WHAT SHE ACTUALLY SAID. To say nothing of how she said it. She blundered as badly as Ted Kennedy did when asked the simple question by Roger Mudd, "Why do you want to be President?"
If Sarah Palin can't handle Katy Couric, how on earth could she handle the Chinese or the North Koreans?
Because this thread is about Mrs Palin. Sometime I'll join you in a thread about Mr Obama, and we can talk about him there, if you like.
I've always thought it a good idea to stay on topic. How about you?
But as you ask, racism and witchcraft all sound like the same insanity to me. We are a much, much better nation than that. I hope you might agree.
Let me preface this statement by saying I am a right leaning independent who has never voted for a Democratic presidential nominee. Now, this woman is FAR too conservative to ever be a real player again on the national scene. She has already polarized the entire nation and is woefully inept on foreign policy. There is the possibility that she will take a page out of the Reagan playbook and spend the next years writing, studying, and giving speeches in order to try to enhance her national reputation, but it will all be for naught and I'll tell you why. SHE QUIT. Let me draw a picture for you. I'm an Iraq war vet (1/17FA BN). Imagine if my commander came up to me and said, "Well, this is too much for me right now and besides, I have greater aspirations down the road to make general". What a joke she is, putting herself and her ambitions before her DUTY to the people of the great state of Alaska. SHAME on all of you Palin fans for getting caught up in another good-looking, cult of personality politician. Sound familiar?? Obama is the same thing for the left. Both are very short on experience and have risen to the top based on looks and a good story. Wasilla mayor? A couple years as Governor? Come on people. Having said that, I will state that she got a VERY bad deal in the hard left media. Little of which was deserved. Her kids and even her secessionist husband should be left out of the equation. What you're left with is a woman who rose TOO FAST and got TOO FULL of herself before she learned the policy and learned the ropes. I sincerely believe the Republican party can do much, much better.
Jeez, Stan, did you ever learn English? Your grammar is a mess, your syntax insensible, your punctuation garbled and meaningless, and your spelling little better.
"Now, back on your knee’s, and grovel!" 'Knee's"? Whose "knee's"? You doubtless meant the plural form, 'knees'. In the context you offered, not that it makes much sense in the first place, the apostrophe S signifying the possessive is yet another mistake.
Here's the point: why are rabid conservatives so inept in the proper use of English? You mis-use and distort the most powerful language the world has ever known.
No wonder you admire Mrs Palin so much. You are as semi-literate as she is, and that's not saying much. People who cannot speak, or write, clearly cannot think clearly either. And that's the great danger of electing dunces to office.

Best idea I've heard all day.

You are correct! The topic is Sarah Palin! Yet you have felt the need to take swipes at Bush, Quayle, Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh etc. Do you notice a recurring theme in your posts? I do. You seem to be trying to hide your dislike of Republicans and Conservatives behind the guise of intelligent debate. I asked a simple question and you give me snide remarks about staying on topic.
The topic is Palins resignation, the reason for it, and the absolutely despicable treatment she has recieved from the MSM and people on the left.
You've answered my questions through your evasiveness though. Your a Liberal Obama supporter. You hate Palin for some unknown reason and you can not see any hypocrisy in ridiculing Palins lack of experience, when the President that you support has even less.
Just wanted to see where you stood! Now I know……………..
Yet another Republican expresses doubts about Mrs Palin's latest oddness.
"“I think a lot of it has been unfair, but, fair or unfair, there has been a question in the eyes of most Republican primary voters about whether she has demonstrated an ability to govern,” said Sara Taylor, who was the White House political director under President George W. Bush. “So the best opportunity you have to demonstrate you can lead is to do it, and you can’t lead if you don’t have a platform.”
“So I do think that this is a mistake if she wants to run for office,” Ms. Taylor said. “It’s a brilliant move if she wants to go make money, write books and give speeches, and I don’t think anybody could fault her for that.” [NYT, 5 July 2009]
Seriously? Did you really just copy/paste this from above?
A definition for you:
bigot – Definition
[bĭǵət]
(n.)One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.
That's all you get. Won't help you, but it's all you get. You've wasted enough of my time.
PDS = Palin Derangement Syndrome.
Similar to BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome). It is an affliction which is commonly shared by the MSM crowd.
Short of death, there are two cures. First cure (Which is more popular) is listening to the Rush Limbaugh show for 6 to ten weeks. The second cure ( Which is much more harsh) listening to the Mark Levin show for 2 weeks.
A crash course of both, seems warranted in your case. That is listen to both for at least a week.
Good luck.
Sarah Palin has not only outsmarted and outmanoeuvered the left she has just become Obama's worst nightmare. She stands for and states it outright the fundamental rights of this country which as we can see is diametrically opposed to everything Obama has done and intends to do. She is so much more accomplished than Obama and ten times smarter. If he did not have the cover the media provide him he would never have been elected in the first place. If she runs, and I sincerely hope she does because she could turn around very quickly these damaging policies Obama has implemented and intends to implement, I want her at the top of the ticket. Palin/Romney or Palin/Thompson, or Palin/Hannity or Palin/?
Palin had to get freed up to take on the radicals – cuz it is pretty much her alone against the loons and their media hit squads
gotta luv the dowd hit piece – real classy woman – old 57 year old dried up lezbo
Palin figured out that if the voters elected a totally inexperienced prez, then there was no reason for more time spent putting up with hit squads while govenor, as she could not effectively fight back against the liberal loons
Palin fighting America haters, while putting up with the powells and mccains republicans, is a full time battle to save American freedom.
"…buried in the news cycle"? She had quite enough (hostile) attention. Does it ever enter your mind that normal people have normal reasons, like GETTING IT OVER WITH? She will step down in three weeks and it will make the news AGAIN.
Intellectual ability? Are you kidding? But then you probably think that Barack Obama knows something. When you´re a dwarf everyone looks like a giant.
I hate to be the devil´s advocate because I like Palin a lot. But her chances of holding another elected office are small now.
I understand and respect her reasons, but let´s be real: not even finishing her first term will make a bad impression on many voters. I wouldn´t call her a quitter because I care about the context. But in terms of political marketing, the charges are unanswerable: she did in fact quit. Couldn´t stand the heat. It´s totally unfair, but there it is.
She was hounded out of the office and it may gain her some deserved sympathy. She is after all an innocent victim. But no voter will trust her with another office because of that. Maybe despite that. But it is another hurdle for her and I think it´s one too many. I would love to be wrong.
Don´t you know anything? Her replacement will not be distracted by spurious ethical suits (all of which got thrown out but they still cost time and money). That is what she said, btw. OF COURSE it´s not as if Alaska won´t have a governor.
Standing up to them while in office would have been even more impressive. Don´t get me wrong, I like her a lot. But to most people resigning in the middle of her first term will not look like she is standing up to anyone. Unfair as it is.
But there is no precedent that you can become president by "going it alone."
"…what else has walked out on the 'team' of old time politicians and corrupt media – the American voters."
When was that? Not last November, that´s for sure. Alas, the conservative base is not "the voters".
That is where you go wrong. They are all believers. The only thing our current government is "thinking" about is how to expand their power indefinitely. Their convictions are entirely belief-driven. There is nothing intellectually serious about Obama´s economic views, or views on social policy,or views on conflict. They are bad beliefs. Only conservatism has incorporated some historic human experience about these things in their ideology. Progressivism is utopianism is inhuman.

You’re the reason she’s the one, someone as inept as Ms. Palin surely doesn’t require so much time and effort from a sanctimonious blow hard such as yourself. Are you worried?
Hi Pat: nope. Not shocked at all. Her self-aggrandizement was clear when her campaign began. It has only been abetted by her latest stunt.
I DID read the Alaskan oath — after this thread began, but before your 'suspicion'. I freely agree I had not read it prior. Nor had you.
Morally superior? Hardly. I'm just an American who deplores the sheer half-literate ignorance of so many of our elected officers, left or right. Mrs Palin is, at present, Exhibit A in that gallery. This is not, I think, an issue of morality, nor have I ever described it that way. You did.
It is an issue of knowledge, grounding, intellect, judgment, an awareness of the world and its history. Like Bush II, she appears to have no intellectual curiosity whatsoever. She has opinions, grounded on mere religiosity, and purports to know the mind of God. What a joke.
She's a small-town mayor with a small-town mentality, completely unfit to lead and manage the greatest country in the world.
"More like you ignore facts in order to defame the person.. " — well said! Good riposte. Tell the truth now: could you ever, in a hundred years, imagine Mrs Palin capable of such a witty rejoinder? We both know the answer.
Or consider Condoleeza Rice. One does not have to share her world-view in order to acknowledge her intellect, her scholarship, her eloquence, her smarts. Dr Rice would make a stellar candidate for the Republican nomination.
She was the Provost at Stanford, one of the great research universities in the world. She reads books. She WRITES books. She honors learning. Don't you?
Not that either of us could ever collect, but I'd bet $100 that Mrs Palin's forthcoming book/memoir will be the product of a tape recorder and a ghost-writer. Perhaps that tells you something. Perhaps it doesn't.

I admire Sarah's acommplishments and see her promise like most supporters but I do not "adore" her. I agree that Obamites adore him exactly because people cannot explain their odd devotion.
[...] SCHLICHTER: The Force Is With Sarah Palin. What’s this — “If you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you could [...]
First, am I to assume you feel Obama is qualified to be President? Correct?
Second, if Rev Wright appears to you to be racist and foolish by only reading his sermons, what does this say about a man who spent 20 yrs listening to those sermons and never noticed anything odd?
I would ask that you apply the same standards to Mr. Obama that you have to Sarah Palin. You have implied many things about Sarah Palin based on a video from a church she went to. Should we assume that because Obama went to Wrights church, for a far longer period, that Obama is an Anti-Semite and Racist just because he was there?
There is no difference between the two comparisons. Both went to questionable church's, yet you are only insulting and debasing the female of the group. Why is that?
[...] The Force is With Sarah Palin by Kurt Schlichter [...]
Sorry, Pat, but you fail to distinguish between moral and ethical obligation. An oath of office is the latter, and not the former. One has an ethical obligation to office and duty. One has a moral obligation to family and friends. I have never raised the subject of morality. It's been your hobby horse, all along.
By trying to exchange one word for the other, you distort meaning. Yours is the rhetorical trick employed by those who pretend that a horse chestnut is the same thing as a chestnut horse.
You continue to make the false claim that an insistence on intellect, reading, learning is somehow 'aristocratic'. What a silly diversion. It is simply a demand for merit over mediocrity.
So too your refusal to consider those Republicans like Condoleeza Rice who, in consequence of their learning and experience would make a MUCH better candidate for President than Mrs Palin. In fact, you have avoided that altogether. No wonder. You seem to prefer dunces.
And now you pose as a democrat, promoting "of the people… etc". As you should know, those words were spoken by the greatest Republican of them all, at Gettysburg. Mr Lincoln was, in your terms, a simple country lawyer — and the greatest President in our history. I personally admire him beyond all others. It is laughable to pretend Mrs Palin belongs in his legion.
Bigotry? Now you've really gone back to junior high, Pat. Many Americans prefer learning to ignorance, eloquence to incoherence, rationality to revelation, and all of America to any of its regions. Neither you nor Mrs Palin appear capable of grasping such principles.
She confuses personal ambition with the public good. You are much brighter than she is, and have no such excuse. I can understand dunces and fanatics defending fanatics and dunces. I expected better of you. You present no doubt about her at all.
Some agnostic.
Your analysis was pretty objective and fair until you snuck in that crack about her "secessionist husband".
While your criticism is certainly understandable, it smacks a bit too much of the leftist talking points and makes the same omissions. I suppose it never occurred to you that keeping her state out of recession, cutting the budget, maintaining a multi-billion dollar surplus, rooting out the corruption, and getting that pipeline deal done are accomplishments that are far ahead of what the supposedly more educated and qualified Republicans have done.
Try this http://bit.ly/f4tLI
"your gift for flattery is somewhat wanting" ha ha…that has got to be the nicest way I have been insulted.
I think Sarah will clean house within the Republican house before she even takes on any Democratic.
Don't think she has any power to do that w/out being a governor? Yea right. When her SarahPac numbers are announced at the end of this month, she will have most of the power in the Republican Party. She has never had a SarahPac fundraising event to date so all of the monies announced will have come 100% from the grassroots.
That's what will scare the RNC to its core.
[...] Schlichter at Big Hollywood has an interesting take on the positives on Sarah’s resignation: Remember when Darth Vader faced off with Obi-Wan Kenobi? “If [...]
Take note everyone the attention she draws from our snooty patooty trolls, Sarah Palin really scares their government issued booties off, doesn’t she, love it.
[...] From http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/kschlichter/2009/07/04/the-force-is-with-sarah-palin (via Instapundit): A “Star Wars” analogy: Remember when Darth Vader faced off with Obi-Wan Kenobi? “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.” She’s now immune from bogus legal claims and her book will not only raise her profile but set up her family financially for life. Now Sarah is unbound, freed from the need to be up in Juneau and able to network, fundraise and even (maybe) campaign without limitation. [...]
OMG! You guys are hilarious! Aside from a talk show on FOX, I don't see much in the Wasilla Hillbilly's future. The author is correct: she rallied the base ……………and that's about it. No one did more for Barack Obama's presidential bid than Sarah Palin. After her speech at the RNC, just about every independent in America shifted to the left.
That noise you heard the other day? That was the entire state of Alaska breathing a sigh of relief.
It is very brave to comment in a language that you know so slightly. Cheers.
We'll see!
How about Palin/Santa Claus, or Palin/Bigfoot? They stand about as much chance of winning in '12 as any of the other options you named.
Scared? No my friend, we love Ms. Palin. After all, she helped us win over all those independents. I've donated $ to SarahPAC because I would love nothing more than to see her get the GOP nod in '12. Are you kidding me? That would be the end of the GOP as we know it! She would become the Republican Walter Mondale!
We’ll see my friend! First 2010 then 2012, it reminds me of 64, 80, 94 see you at the polls.
I like Palin/Santa Claus it would be fun to see Biden in that debate.
uhhhhh dude………..we have already seen it. She hurt McCain's ticket more than she helped. Obama won a decisive victory. If this was a part of her strategy to win in 2012, then it is a poor one. Ask any GOP strategist. They've been all over TV rolling their eyes at her. Are you telling me that you know more than Ed Rollins? I seriously doubt that you do.
i'll agree with you there.
This is war. Sarah is about to spit on her hands and hoist the black flag. She is going to try to torpedo the entire Obama agenda. She'll definitely have the megaphone to do it, too. I suspect it will be tons of fun and very lucrative for her. This should be most entertaining.
"I hate to be the devil´s advocate because I like Palin a lot. But her chances of holding another elected office are small now."
I don't think that is what she wants necessarily. I think she is going to be John the Baptist, not Jesus. She is going to seize the opportunity she has, with her constant media presence, to focus white hot citizen outrage on the excesses of the Gramscian termites. If it leads to her election down the road, great. If not, I think she's fine with that too, as long as she saves our beloved Republic from Hugo Chavez in an Armani suit.
No thanks, I hear the Kool Aid has a nasty strychnine after-taste. What you define as a disorder is what most people refer to as not being brainwashed.
You mean the guy than ran Ross Perot’s run hmmm… Ed Rollins (before you say it I know he worked with Reagan), maybe. If it weren’t for Sarah, McCain would have lost by 20%. In 76 and 79 another Governor was dismissed as senile, war monger, voodoo economics and this was from the Republicans, off coarse I’m referring to Ronald Reagan. Thanks for your advice, but respectfully no thanks, haul a$$ off to the left and we’ll see you in 2010.
Kurt, thank you for your posting. Unfortunately, there's one problem with your analysis: "Star Wars" is make-believe. Obiwan-Kenobi never existed. Miraculous reappearances are the stuff of fiction, not real life. F. Scott Fitzgerald was closer to the truth when he said there are no second acts in American life: if you strike somebody down, they're down for good. And make no mistake, Palin has been struck down.
As much as I like Sarah Palin personally, I had reservations about her as a national candidate. Not in terms of her ability or her experience – you probably could find someone more qualified than Obama if you picked a name at random out of the phone book – but you need more than an individual to govern: you need a party, and even more than that, you need an organization of professionals who are dedicated to your cause. Which means that you need money. Palin didn't have the organization, I doubt if she has much money, and I don't think the Alaska party is deep enough to put together an organization the way that Obama's Chicago mafia did. And there were problems with her persona. Her accent turned some people off, mainly the open-minded, oh-so-inclusive sophisticates who are quick to brand someone a hick if they don't sound exactly like themselves. And the fact that she's an attractive woman made it harder for some people to take her seriously: a barrier that, even in this day and age, a good-looking man (like, say, Obama) doesn't have to face.
So, it's a shame that she was treated as badly as she was. If she's retiring to private life, I wish her and her family peace and much happiness.
And truth be told, this may be for the best. We conservatives have to stop looking for the next Reagan, the next man on horseback who'll ride in to save us all. We have to begin our own long, hard task of organization-building. It won't be fast or easy, but that's the only way to defeat the corrupt mob who now runs Washington.
Right then. Sarah Palin will be like Bioware making a good Star Wars MMO. Sure, she may take on some former members of the SOE team from the bastard child of a Gungan lady of the night and an Ewok, er, male-thing. But she won't succumb to SOE's dumb!
Somehow, I envision the Emperor's clone springing to life and Force lightning-ing the entire galaxy. At once.
Leave her alone. She deserves that much.
ahhhh……….the old torpedo the enemy by torpedoing yourself maneuver. You Repubs sure do have a fetish for war analogies! Let's review how things are going in your so-called war:
dems control the white house, the house, 60 votes in the senate.
good luck with that megaphone. i'm sure it will be about as effective as rush's.
Are you from the 57th state?
Who is Ed Rollins?
Bigfoot might be unfair, Biden being follicly challenged and all, also the Yeti yell makes more sense.
How, by QUITTING???
All you boot-licking neo-cons who gave me a negative vote are defective knuckle-dragging morons and losers! Palin will be exposed as a crook (like she's been exposed as a nitwit; WTF was with that speech???) before long and will have as much chance of holding public office as Michael Jacksn has rising from the dead (even if the media has canonized him beyond belief); on the other hand, she has a great chance of getting a show on Fox Noose and becoming the right-wing Oprah…
Shouldn't yours be Bottom B*tch?
It's because there are TOO many to list (relatively speaking), D-bag!

and what war have YOU fought in, chickenhawk?
Way to show your "knowledge" on things, mouth-breather…
Likening Sarah Failin to George Lucas says volumes about both (unfortuneately)…
Letterman still has a job and Failin doesn't; way to prove your point neo-cons!
i don't necessarily support it, but i do expect it. however, if she DID misuse taxpayer's money, should she not pay the price? then again, obama is misusing our tax dollars (as did bush as did clinton, etc), but his punishment will probably be re-election.
oh, and for the record: perot in 92. nader in '96, '00, '04, '08
i agree with you. durbin should be nailed to the wall. i have as much distaste for corrupt democrats as i do corrupt republicans. that said, i strongly suspect that palin is going to come out of this deal with dirty hands. now then, do we have a deal?
You really love your Barry don’t you?
Look at who hates her and throws the most vicious attacks her way – they must be scared to death of this woman. I voted for her last November and I will vote for her again should she decide to run.
I respect McCain, but I don't trust him to lead the country (I'm still seething over the McCain Feingold bill). I was weighing my third party options when I saw Sarah at the GOP convention and she set me on fire. Here is a candidate I could get behind. Strong, gutsy, conservative. This is what we need.
I hope the GOP takes notice and abandons any plans of "moving to the center." Sorry GOP, but if you want to look and sound and act like Democrats, there is no reason whatsoever of voting for you.
You GO, Sarah!
Palin/2012
Not just Thatcher. Also invite Carl Rove, Thomas Sowell, Victor Davis Hansen, Paul Johnson, Ann Coulter, Mona Charen, Vaclav Havel, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffett, Stephen Pressfield, Vince Flynn, David Berlinski, Nicholas Sarkozy, and a whole range of accomplished people from the fields of the arts, science, politics culture, and business. They might not all agree, or even make the trip, but if she extends the invitations, she could create a buzz that will garner world wide attention.
Who are you to define what constitutes "fringe," paleface?
Like the way Obama served his full term as Senator?

I absolutely love that Governor Palin announced her decision to pass the torch on July 3rd. I had the best July 4th ever. I love how all the bottom feeders of all stripes are full of vile self importance as they analyze her every move. Keep counting her out, foolish foolish bottom feeders. She is a force that electrifies. Whatever she does, I will be right there with full support. I look forward to voting for her again, this time at the top of the ticket.
I'll second that!
Perhaps you would rather she hold on to the job, collect the salary, and spend most of her time campaigning for another office. Let me think, could you be thinking of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John McCain? These people don't seem to have been accused of cheating their constituents by being only part time senators.
The only thing that angers me is that I will be getting the government that YOU deserve.
I know you have not been programmed to hate them, but before you get boring, you will need to focus your attention on the Christian left. Ever heard of them? The people who think that the way to virtue lies in using the state to force you to be kinder and nicer. Cap-and tax, national health care… the Christian left loves the nanny state. And you will not be able to opt out anymore.
You didn´t think just because Obama never goes to Church anymore he would somehow safeguard your liberties, now did you? He is a passionate collectivist. Like all institutions, religion is just another racket for him. And it will be bad. At worst, Palin would not have done one percent of that damage. Neither did Bush. Because basically, when all is said and done, they will respect freedom more than anyone else who counts. Because as conservatives they at least respect what was and is. You may not be a fan of Obama, but you have ended up on the wrong side anyway and it won´t help you if you are in good company there.
Quite simply, she's a star. She's the biggest political star on the scene today. She is the most charismatic politician of her generation, in either party, and she will blow Obama away. For all the advantages he has; a butt kissing media, the muscle of the Chicago crime syndicate, Acorn, and the power of the Democratic party establishment at his beck and call, he can't compete with her. Obama is now the incumbant and must run on his record, and the Democratic party has to run on his record also. By 2010, this country will be facing ruination not seen since the 30's. Democratic politicians won't be able to jump ship and they won't be able to explain themselves out of the mess they got us in.
I cannot help noticing that it does not seem to concern you that she was going bankrupt thanks to Democratic activists and their friends in the legal profession. She had to spend her own money to defend herself from baseless and silly ethics complainst while her accusers used the money of the state. Whatever you think of her, she was elected by Alaskans and fairly well liked. She would not have deserved this even if she had been as bad a governor as, say, Granholm (who for her disastrous performance was considered for the Supreme Court). If you liked thinking and rationality as much as you claim you could put aside your visceral dislike for a second and this would be the real point of concern for you.
Did you want to live in a system where a constituency can bleed a middle class politician dry out of pure hatred? Congratulations, you do now.
Would you say the same thing about Al Gore's son and his drug problem? I thought not.
I love to watch the trolls come out and spew their self-involved nonsense. Governor Palin outsmarted you dimwits AGAIN! Get used to making poopoo in your pants there is way more to come. Her star is on the rise and she will WIN. I love watch all you d-bags freak out. Keep squirming trolls:)
The only reason Liberalman has a job is because he does great work with a pair of knee pads on.
One of the oldest rules of warfare, you choose your battlefield, you do not let it be chosen for you. She has now picked hers.
That was my thinking also. Coulter opened the exact right door.

I’ve never seen such anger in my fifty years. My wife and I went to a Tea Party in North Metro Atlanta, Cobb county, seven to eight thousand pissed off taxpayers. Mind you these aren’t parasitic rent-a-mob ACORN losers, but the people that pay the freight. Sarah’s going to be fine, if she is as conservative as we believe, she may be our Reagan in heels, if she decides to run.
Thatcher would be fantastic, and many of the other suggestions listed here. If she's going to go for it, she needs to assemble a brain trust. What Reagan did. He had the natural talent/charisma — the right stuff if you will — and with help, transformed himself into a superstar. Sarah's all that too! What did Reagan have, three main ideas he wanted to get done? Sarah needs to do that too, plus hone her chops to perfection and I think she could pull it off. Obama's stumbling. There's much to be optomistic about!
The numbers are there. There are more registered Independents in many places than there are Republicans or Democrats. People choose to see the Independents as solely moderate in their political nature, but I don't think that's entirely the case. True, I think many are apathetic and simply don't care, but it's also true that other polls, done by places not sympathetic to the right keep coming up with numbers suggesting that America is still running at least 60% conservative leaning. So who are these independents again? I contend that a lot of them may be simply fed up with our government process.
I know my husband and I are both registered Independent, but we're also both avowed conservatives. Had Obama not been the Democratic candidate, had Palin not been the Veep pick for the Republicans, we likely would have voted for Barr as a protest vote more than anything else.
Maybe we the people should just help her retake the (R) from the ground up. Don't you think we deserve to have at least one of the two parties in this country be one our side?
To the Left, the aren't people. It's about winning, and that's all it's about. They likely trash the opposing team when they go to a soccer match too.
For someone who has cut her own salary and let go her own personal chef, not a big deal.
When all you can do is attack someone for their use of the English language in an ad hominem attack, you have pretty much ceded the battle to them.
You flubbed on your ability to read the English language. No "l" in that name.
She didn't break her oath of office. If by remaining governor she is doing more harm to her state than good, her duty is clear – resign. She did so. If the Left was only going to continue to load her down with ethics complaints that the state was compelled to investigate, wasting tax dollars to do so, than she was a financial drain. If her agenda was completed and her lt. governor was capable of carrying out her duties, she was more of a liability legally than she was an asset. Had the Left ceased badgering her and wasting the state's time, I have no doubt she would have served out her term.
Aren't you a prize? Shoo, astrurfer.
With Palin, you have to divorce all you know and all you think you know because unless you've done the groundwork on your own, you likely don't know all of the truth. And she didn't quit; she resigned. There comes a time where you have to accept that a strategic retreat may be necessary to realize greater gains in the future. Is it risky? Yes, but imagine if we couldn't quit our jobs when the work situation became untenable or retreat from a battle when the tide turned against us. I'm not sure this would be a place I'd want to live in.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm fired up! I can't help it. Just the thought that SP will run in 2012 is fantastic! I think she really may be Reagan's successor. She has charm, charisma and the same genuine quality that RR had. I challenge anyone to name any other elected republican that generates the kind of excitement that Palin does. VIVA PALIN 2012!
He graded my paper cute! So Trent, what's in it for you?
No doubt this is Mr. Schlichter's best so far. I posted this on my Facebook page like I do with most of his articles. If Obama had chosen a pro-abortion female Democrat Governor who was the mother of five with an autistic son and a pregnant teen daughter, she would have been portrayed by the state run media as compassionate, just like you and me, and the very model of the successful American woman. But they got Sarah: a pro-life, female Republican Governor who is the mother of five with an autistic son and a pregnant teenage daughter. The left does not want conservative Republican women to be successful out of fear that more little girls will want to be more like Sarah and less like Hillary Clinton or Rosie O'Donnell. Sarah did not go to an Ivy league school; she supports the second amendment, has her own business, is a Christian, pro military, supply side economist, supports the troops for real not just through platitudes, believes in small government, big stick diplomacy, energy independence, lower taxes, balancing the federal budget, cutting spending, term limits, why it’s almost as if she's not like them at all, she’s (GASP!) like me and maybe you too!!!
"I cannot help noticing that it does not seem to concern you that she was going bankrupt thanks to Democratic activists and their friends in the legal profession."
Perils of getting into politics in the 21st Century. Don't like it? I'm sure Mssrs. McCain and Feingold would happily draft up some bills to make sure neither side gets to do that anymore. Your cool with that, right?
" know you have not been programmed to hate them, but before you get boring, you will need to focus your attention on the Christian left."
Yeah, I'll get right on that. They're on my "to-do list" right above dealing with my Tasmanian Tiger infestation, combating the rapid spread of Fundamentalist Zoroastrianism and digging up more obscure references to presumably-extinct animals and rarely-practiced ideologies.
Anyone who gets unreasonably in the way of my life, liberty and pursuit of happiness has my attention and scorn, I don't care what side they think they're on. Thing about the Christian "left" is that I generally find them easier to reason-with and/or distract. Operating under the logic that government will ALWAYS be in my way, one must often choose based on who is the LEAST offensive to me. And until the "right" abandons it's insipid rigidity on so-called "life issues," the answer is rather easy for me.
You have no idea how much you just made me laugh. You voted for Obama and have seriously and critically watched his first 6 months in office and are still capable of writing most of this?
"He is ill-read, ill-educated, and utterly ill-prepared to lead the nation. He is photogenic, to be sure. But as with Bill Clinton before him, we have learned that a pretty face is never enough … " I could go on … "People who cannot speak clearly (without a teleprompter) cannot think clearly. Period … Most of us are tired of being led by nitwits. Mr. Obama may make a great basketball player. Intellectually, he's just another dead fish: flopping, failing and foolish."
Really this stuff just writes itself and is just ever more proof that the Left simply projects.
Oh, the oh-so-mighty Trent is soooo tempting, and I didn't look at this last posting before I gave him a definition of the word bigot when he whined about me declaring him one. One last shot.
Some agnostic.
agnostic – Definition
[ăg-nŏśtĭk]
(n.)One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.
Yes, some agnostic. I still think it is impossible to know whether God exists or not. Words, you see, mean things.
Apparently, you're using another definition that includes an obligation to be hostile, snarky and downright rude to people who have some faith.
It's possible that I'm brighter than Palin, though that's based on your own presumptions based on a number of fairytales you've blindly believed in. I certainly couldn't run a state, even a low-population state like Alaska. Judging from her record, Palin actually did quite a bit of good, so it's possible she isn't what you arrogantly presume she is.
Perhaps I'm simply brighter than you. Except not bright enough to wrestle with a pig. All I get is dirty and you seem to enjoy the attention.
Short of death, there are two cures. First cure (Which is more popular) is listening to the Rush Limbaugh show for 6 to ten weeks. The second cure ( Which is much more harsh) listening to the Mark Levin show for 2 weeks.
Actually, I've never listened to either except maybe a brief recording or two. but I don't suffer from either derangement syndrome. (Nor do I suffer from the "they're both PERFECT" syndrome, but that's usually an accusation thrown because I disagree with the usual deranged tales about Palin or Bush.)
Even if they do listen it will probably drive them even further into insanity. From the transcripts and few recordings I do know that Rush isn't quite the monstrous monstrosity he's made out to be. Of course, he holds views that leftists dislike so that's enough to put him in the Ultimate Evil category.
At first I was disappointed to learn of Sarah Palin's announcement, but not surprised. Not surprised because of the unrelenting disgusting bile that has been directed at her family, the shameful attempts to bankrupt her family through unrelenting harrassment and spurious attacks on her worth. As a loving mother and wife it's clear that she would want to stop that unrelenting vitriol. But disappointment changed to appreciation for the canniness of her move. She showed that this is about her beliefs not her. The professional political/media class never can grasp that some people go into politics for their beliefs, not for a career or power. They have forgotten the life story of this remarkable woman, that she got into this to effect change, not for a career.
With this act she removed herself from 2012 contention and closed the fault line on the right between the small number (with big megaphones) of GOPers/conservatives who share the Left's visceral disdain for her, and the large number (with a much smaller megaphone) of those who support her for her beliefs and actions. She will help make conservative ideas ascendant again for all the right reasons, not for her self-aggrandizement.
Excellent, Nola. And too logical for liberal worshippers' thinking.
This is the United States of America who never surrender, never resign and always go forward.
That's True America ! Գ
Over 70 PERCENT of the country hates neo-con hypocrites; not ALL of them can possibly be liberal…
Talk about gluttons for punishment…
Never was.
There is so much talk in the mainstream media about bullies in our public schools. Having a special needs child who has experienced being bullied, school staff and administrators who do nothing, parents who ostracize if you rock the PTA, etc. It never ends until you go away. Parents can go to court but schools have expert status. You can't beat the union. I know how SarahCuda felt, and then the photo manipulation for Trig would show any parent who knows what other special needs parents go through, what was coming. How shameful Alaskans are to have allowed this to happen. The Great Frontier of Persecution.
What I thought. Take away all the heroic words and you are enabling collectivism. The Christian feel-good left is of course not really Christian, they just never got around to dabbling in wicca or astrology. Like the majority of "secular" people, they buy into the collectivist religions of statism and environmentalism. And you like them better.
I realize you don´t really read my comments but let me say one final thing: If you are pro-life it must be a big deal for you on account of your conscience. If you are pro-choice, it should be a total sideshow. After all, abortion is available and not going anywhere. Have you noticed who is running the country lately? With all the bad laws passed unread, if you are still a single issue bore on the issue of abortion, you are most certainly not one of the thinkers. You are driven by anything but rational thought. I will now leave you to wrestle with your demons in private.
[...] have fulfilled her term. Dismissing what she’s going through, etc. Kurt Schlichter makes a good point regarding the outcry from those on the right and left angry about her not finishing her term: [...]
Take a look at the number of pages in this comment string, and try to make me believe Sarah isn't popular. Palin 2012!
"I realize you don´t really read my comments but let me say one final thing: If you are pro-life it must be a big deal for you on account of your conscience. If you are pro-choice, it should be a total sideshow."
Between the lesser of two evils, one must often make an imperfect choice. It's hardly "just" abortion, thats just the best issue encapsulating my view of the two sides. The do-gooder "left" is just that: Do-gooders. I regard them as well meaning but frequently fond of incorrect methodology. Wanting to help the environment, reduce poverty, etc. are GOOD things… just right now sought by less-than-ideal measures. The "Christian right," on the other hand, aren't "do-gooders" but do-as-we-say-ers. They don't seem to have much regard for the immediate good of the real world, only satisfying what they believe to be the whims of a deity. Not going to join either club, but if one only has two choices "have all the fun you want, but we're gonna be jerks about the price" beats "have no fun because the book says so" wins every time. For now.
Democrat Intellectual ability is an overblown status symbol that requires absolutely zero common sense or logic.
Sarah Palin has more common sense and logic in her little finger than ALL the leftist in Washington put together.
