The Grand and Gracious Andy Williams
by Kathryn Jean Lopez
This story warms my heart: Andy Williams is not a fan of the president:
I think he wants to create a socialist country. The people he associates with are very Left-wing. One is registered as a Communist.
Yes, that Andy Williams.
Of “Love Story” fame — you don’t have to love the movie to sing the song.
Or, for the men in the room, there’s The Godfather.
And this is the kind of story I usually only get listening to Bill Bennett’s interviews with random musicians on his morning show:
The 81-year-old was a friend of the Kennedy family during the 1960s and was present at the Los Angeles rally where Robert F Kennedy was assassinated in 1968.
“I was very close to Bobby and he asked me to be a delegate for him when he ran for president,” he said.
“He knew about me being a Republican, but just laughed and said, ‘Sign yourself in as a Democrat and then change back afterwards’. Sadly, I never got to do that.
“I was very close to Teddy Kennedy, too, and his death recently brought it all back. What a tragedy. Had he lived, I think Bobby would have been a great president.”
There is something so American about it all.

"Born Free"……. but die a forced socialist. 13 Days in October for a strong President Kennedy would be 13 months in pospotus obeyones daily planner.
I got to meet Andy once in the clubhouse bar at La Quinta. I liked him then and I like him even better now. Way to go Andy!
Andy Williams, in his Kennedy's days and beyond, drank a bit or maybe a lot so that may be part of the
reason he was such a Kennedy friend, to be a bit cruel. But after a problem or two he cleaned up and continued to be a very nice guy and a very good conservative. I hope he continues to perform for a long time.
i am going to itunes immediately and download all of his songs in solidarity!

Thank god Andy never drank the Kool Aid……
Great story about Andy Williams – thanks for link.
What happened to the Democrats and their policies mentioned in this post? As much as I did not like Tip O'neals policies, I did enjoy what he had to say, or at least in the manner he said it.
no Moon River is my favorite
In the spirit of the White House school children’s quiz, What film or book would you recommend to help Obama? __Since we're sure Obama can relate to Charlie Brown Stopthepresses recommends "This is America Charlie Brown" __In the multi episode film Obama can learn along with Charlie Brown About "The Mayflower Voyagers," "The Birth of the Constitution," "The Building of the Transcontinental Railroad," "The Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk", "The NASA Space Station," "The Great Inventors," "The Smithsonian and the Presidency," and "The Music and Heroes of America." __It's time to end the partisan bickering and help our President.
Andy Williams sings disco hits … a classic from SCTV.

Andy Williams: A Real American, and a snappy dresser.
If it warms your heart to think a very old celebrity thinks Obama's a Marxist and wants the country to fail I recommend a large vial of uncrazy pills.
I watched his show as a kid, pure good old entertainment, no cussing, no insults, no sexual inuendo (that I would understand) just good music and comedy. What would my favorite movie, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" be without "Moon River"?

Which part of the high powered hampster wheel that is your brain did that little ~gem~ of wisdom come from – the *substance* part or the *gravitas* part?
ZZZzzz. I suspect your next substantive declaration will be your first. Tell your momma to stop giving you the password to her computer, you bore me; and make yourself useful and start cleaning the basement.
I saw his show in Branson, MO. It is a great time, he puts on a heck of a holiday show.
It could be that Andy just may represent a large portion of the American political center. Oh, and what's Christmas without "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"?
I think I'll go buy an Andy Williams CD this week. I have one of his Christmas records, it's fantastic.
The part that knows how to spell hamster, Mr. Wizard.
I believe you've confused Perry Como for Andy Williams. (I remember watching this. I loved SCTV.)
Not only does Andy Williams have the GREATEST Christmas album ever, but it turns out that he is a TRUE Patriot!
Or maybe it was because Kennedy was less liberal than liberals like to believe. Charlton Heston campaigned for him, too. JFK was a fierce patriot, a war hero, was stridently anti-Communist and sought to rid Cuba of Castro's rule, and he boosted the economy by cutting taxes even for everyone, even the wealthiest one percent of Americans. By today's standards, JFK would have a better chance being elected as a Republican than a Democrat.
David Horowitz has maintained in his book "Radical Son" and in articles at frontpagemag.com that the New Left despised JFK during his life and only after his death did they jump on the JFK bandwagon as if they had always been his and he had always been theirs.
Gracious… old school… thanks, Andy!
Yes, I agree. I don't know if he wouldn't have changed with the times and remained a democrat, as he was a Kennedy but you are quite right compared to today. However Andy was good friends with Robert and I believe Robert was in the mold of his father and Ted. He was ruthless and would have been
unrelenting as a no holds barred President. which previous relationships would have not have mean't much. But. I guess we have more than our hands full at present.
If he had praised obama he would have been interviewed by all the network morning shows and news shows. But because he spoke the truth about him they will cover this up like they covered up nearly 2 million people protesting in Washington a few weeks ago against obama and the democrats.
You had to read about Andy from a British news source by way of Drudge
Look at us now. A few years ago we were telling the Dixie Chicks where to go, how to get there and what to do with the career when they arrived. Now were praising Andy for doing the same thing. My how things change. I disliked the Dixie Chicks something fierce after being a big fan at one time.
When you stretch the envelope sometimes it amazes you what becomes ordinary.
Agreed, watched his show with my family and liked same as you James. Also, enjoy his Christmas songs.
Doesn't this old idiot realize that President Bush is the one who bailed out the banks and initiated the auto industry bailouts?
All this proves to me is that ALL celebrities, whether liberal or conservative, should shut up and sing. Andy Williams preaching politics? I might as well be listening to Neil Young preaching about electric cars.
Andy is a class act ,I remember a song he did in I think 1962 called( I Cant Get Used To Losing You),
The song was different, and a big hit, somewhere in the 80s or early 90s a punk rock group did a good
version of that song. Good job Andy for speaking out.
If you would look into the bail-out farce you would see it was more the fault of "The Prince of Darkness, Obama." President Bush's mistake was to put the money on the table for Obama to bail out the banks when he came into power.
As for the auto industry, supposedly Obama wanted to save the auto makers from bankruptcy. They ended up going bankrupt anyway, but not before Obama made his deal with the unions. President Bush had nothing to do with that. Obama bailed out the unions, but scre-wed the auto makers and their stockholders.
My goodness but do we conservatives need an ego boost? I think we should purchase Andy"s CDs He is a good man and an outspoken conservative in show biz that is rare but I would hate to think what would happen if Heidi Fleiss came out as a conservative. We have been beaten up a lot but my goodness.
Ahhh the good old days, like when old man Carter comes out to to raise the racism quotient,
just like old times.
The old Democrats are the new Republicans. And the new Dimwitcrats are the old Socialists. And the old Republicans are the new Conservatives. It's like wife-swapping.
Anyway…..always liked Andy's singing.
Andy Williams always a class act, and at 81 still recognizes a Marxist when he sees one.
Big difference. The Dixie Chicks lied about George Bush
Loved his variety show, "The Andy Williams Show." Lots of great comedy on that along with the music, remember the Cookie Bear? ("Not now! Not ever. NEVER!")
Or is it the part thinks "sucess" is socialism- Son of Stalin?
have you always been an ageist bigot?
yes, thanks for that reminder…no matter how cold it was outside I warmed seeing the fire he had going and all the great Christmas music, THANKS!
thanks for the tip, I should partake.
I think there is a big difference between stating your views in an interview (being asked) and forcing them on a captive audience who only came to hear you sing. I haven't read anything about Mr. Williams forcing his audience to hear his political views.
by the way, watching Obama fail (and he is, spectacularly!) and wanting the country to fail are two different things. DemocratSS like you wanted Bush to fail, was that wanting the country to fail?
Oh dear. He's going to be persona-non-grata with the "tolerance and diversity" crowd. No more Letterman appearances for him, then.
I thought before the election he was one of Obama's cheerleaders. The bloom is off the rose, I guess.
Facebooked it.
Dec.grad at U.Texas El Paso, preping for grad. school, then perhaps law school. Looking at Tulane in N.O.
What part of you thinks it's a good idea to have lawyers who can't write sentences in English?
Please read:

Well, you have a point but the end result is the same, your dissing the President (by the way I agree with Mr Williams just in case you think otherwise) in a foreign country to a wide audience. We're at the point now where it doesn't matter. In fact if the Dixie Chicks situation originated today, of course Pres.Bush would still be in the White House, sigh, I doubt if it would raise the same degree of indignation.
Somehow that all made sense. Its true but in some respects its too bad.
What wrong with that sentence? Be specific.
What wrong with that sentence? Be specific. By the way I've already spent a business lifetime (20 plus years in the car business, so "skool" is for fun!) before I returned to school, and I agree public schools are absymal and the skill levels are dropping every year. I also taught myself to type soooo, there are ocassional glitches.
I was looking at a case in New Mexico concerning the "exclusionary rule" and the "good faith exception" and transfered (cut and pasted, whatever) to my paper and when I spell checked the entire paper the portion I moved over from OFFICIAL court transcrpit was replete with errors. ~Sigh~
besides at Tulane I can write and speak Cajun!

Andy Williams is a racist old fart. He probably has a degree of dementia thinking his opinion matters. HIs mouthing off about Obama and touting his friendship with a Kennedy smacks of self-righteous piety. What a bottom feeder.
Great piece you recommended.
"Simply put, American college students are lazy on a scale that boggles the mind. It's a laziness that starts early and develops year by year…" I hardily agree. I look at some of the papers turned into professors here at UTEP by the more typical school aged students than I and I'm shocked. I'm no "Bard of the Avon" by it's really amazing. I took a text book we were assigned to read and started dismantling it section by section and met nothing but resisitance. They see it, the may or may not read it, and they question nothing in it, really schocking.
Not just that "futurestar" –Here's my two cents on the jerk.
David, you are just so clever. Visions of Ronnie Reagan fisting Andy Williams? Really? Let me know when you learn to start using facts in your rants. On second thought, don't. Nothing you say in your post on your blog has any bearing on anything, other than your desire to tar and feather (oh, I hope I'm not being raaaaacist) the man.
Grow up.
I can't STAND 'Most Wonderful TIme of the Year' (performed as part of a choir to it WAY too often) but next time it is on the radio, I will be singing along.
I hope to get to Branson soon and will definitely go to his show now.
I will even buy some of his music, even though it isn't my usual style.
Let's ALL support Andy tangibly.
Whining about sentence structure and grammar is a weak argument. Is that all you have?
GOD Bless Andy Williams – He tells it like it is. His views are as down-home and common sense-filled as his great voice.
YES, Obama IS a Socialist, and those who still support him are idiots, if not socialistic themselves.
YES, I hope Obama's socialist agenda FAILS, cause that means Americans WIN.
You see how the Commander-In-Chief cares about our Nation and our Soldiers – he's on the way to Copenhagen to try to get the Olympics for Ganglandtown, otherwise known as Chicago…
No, I have someone whose heart is warmed when someone babbles like an imbecile. See the beginning of the thread.
