‘Monumental’: America’s National Treasure Resides in Our Homes, Not the White House
by Kirk CameronHard for me to imagine, but I am now 41. Amazing. It seems like yesterday my poofy mullet and parachute pants were all the rage, and Prince had a #1 hit on the radio. Now I’m married to the most beautiful woman, raising six children, and living the American dream. Our country has changed so much since my days of fighting with Carol and Ben on TV. America has always been known as “the land of the free” and “the home of the brave.” It’s the richest, freest nation the world has ever seen. Everyone wants to live here. But as I look around, I’m left with a sinking feeling that America is losing her way. Big time. The soul of our country is sick, and history shows me we are headed for disaster if we don’t change course now.
I’ve been looking around for answers, but all I hear is noise. Everyone is pointing fingers at the Left or the Right, blaming Hollywood or Capitol Hill. Time is flying by too quickly for petty arguments. My children’s future won’t wait. I’ve got to do something now.
Here’s my hunch: Could it be that we have simply forgotten what made us such a great nation in the first place? So many people are waiting around for our leaders to come up with a grand plan to save our nation. But is that really how America got started? What if things actually work the other way around? What if real change doesn’t start at the top but at the bottom? What if the best place to begin transforming our country is not the Oval Office but the dinner table?
For the past year and a half, I’ve been making a film called “Monumental,” and I am thrilled to announce that it’s coming to theaters on March 27. We are creating a live, one-night national event in 500 theaters where audiences can experience a monumental moment together. Then we will release the film in theaters in select cities, while providing helpful new resources to families, churches, and schools who want to go further with what they’ve experienced in the film.
In the film I retrace the footsteps of our Founders from England to America in the hope of discovering our true “national treasure.” I wanted to listen to them, to learn from them. Our forefathers knew we were a forgetful people, that someday we would lose our way as a nation. So they left us “maps” that would guide us back to the source of America’s success. What I discovered is amazing! This is one of the most important journeys of my life. America is worth fighting for, and so are our families. We can still be a “city upon a hill,” but we need to work together. With God’s help, we can turn this thing around. It’s been said, “Footprints in history are not made sitting down,” and I couldn’t agree more. I hope that our children will mark this moment as the turning point when we stood up, came together, and reclaimed the true national treasure of America.

Good luck with this, Kirk. I imagine that your movie will get a mention on Wretched Radio, if Todd Friel can focus on one subject for more than a minute. Love his show, but if my mind bounced around like that, I'd get mental whiplash.
This movie sounds like it would also appeal to Rush's audience.
They wrote a plan without a lobbyist telling them how to skew it to turn around and result in favorable to a few. They put in place laws to preserve freedom and liberty, except for those savages, but we are all savages now, being told our ways are inappropiate and we must be managed.

Yes! I will watch a movie like this! I like this type of movie much more than 'Fireproof' or 'Courageous'. (Even thought I agree with the message of the latter movies.)

What a facinating documentary. It has always been said that we can only move forward if we understand our past. It looks as though this movie will truly reveal parts of our past that most have forgotten, chosen to forget, or never learned in the first place. I'm very much looking forward to seeing this.

Good luck with this and may God grant you peace and understanding when the Left savages your movie with caustic and condescending reviews. Heaven forbid you make a movie that promotes the founding principles of our country. Sad to say, if there was an anal rape scene in your movie, your reviews would be 100% better.
Was fortunate to hear Kirk Cameron read the Christmas Story during the must-see Candlelight Processional at Epcot. He is a wonderful, humble and articulate man of God.

Thanks, Kirk. Truly with God's help we can do this. But so many upscale, urban churches have lost their way. It seems some of these pastors were trying too hard to be in touch with the nation's leadership instead of with their True Guide. Even when a generation gets the right message and does things right, too many of their children focus on the mistakes instead of the correct things done by the previous generation. We really need someone who can smack the entire nation upside the head!

There is no GOP candidate in the race that has my support. I'm not looking for perfect. I'm looking for any of them to really say to me that they understand that the gov't has to be cut down to Constitutional size and they are willing to fight for it no matter who stands against them. I'm looking for any of them to really say to me that they understand that the spending has to be under control and that he is willing to cut spending everywhere and anywhere and they are willing to fight for it no matter who stands against them.
I don't want to hear fancy "plans" about things. There is no fancy plan – start cutting gov't bureaucracy and spending PERIOD. Then, if need be, institute a tax system where EVERYONE PAYS and so everyone has skin in the game.
I just learned that out of approximately 10 million households in CA, 166,000 of them pay most of the taxes! WTH! That is not sustainable. And I'm sure it looks similar nationwide on federal taxes.

But perhaps 2012 is not the year we're going to get that leader. Then we should look to ourselves. Get back to basics. Your film certainly will help, as will the work that Beck does. Restoring Love is next. Being George Washington and Anonymous for Good. Even if we all don't join in specifically with him, we certainly can take a page from it and implement things on our own.

This week, while quietly discussing by Sprint bill while in line at the Post Office, an elderly lady in front of me must have still caught most of the conversation. I was just making sure they had received my past due payment and I was checking on when my next payment was due. When I got off the phone and the elderly lady was called to be helped, she turned to me and handed me a folded up $20 bill and said "This should help you, dear." I nearly burst out crying. I declined, but she went to be helped. I couldn't keep it. I'm struggling yes, but I still have food and a roof over my head and clothes on my back. There are those worse off than me. So I went to her and handed it back and told her thank you, but I'm fine. I told her God bless you and hugged her. She smiled and said God bless you back.
THAT is the America we all know and love. THAT is the America we need to get back to. We always took care of each other in the past, one way or the other. We had values and morals, even if we weren't always perfect at either.

Our Constitution was made for a moral people. It was made for a MATURE people that are self-reliant, take personal responsibility for themselves and believe in individual liberty. It was not made for a bunch of panty-waisted cry babies looking for someone to take care of them because "life isn't fair". People who look to the gov't to solve their problems are people who are pessimists and cry babies. Life hands them lemons and they cry. The people who founded this country and helped it grow successful and strong; the people that settled the West when there was nothing out here but wilderness and Indians, they got lemons and made lemonade.
If we get back to that, slowly but surely we will take this country back because we will no longer fall for politicians that will tell us that they will make things fair and "equal", that they will redistribute wealth, that they will take care of us. Those politicians will LOSE and the ones that stand for limited government, self-reliance, individual liberty – they will WIN.
The forces we face make King George look like a piker….
They've had over one hundred years to move their assets in place….
November will be the tipping point.
Maybe the Mayans had it right. Not a world ending event, but an event that changes the world as we know it.

Except of course it was not Darwininian thought, but the twisted pseudo-science of Social Darwinism that was involved.
Science and scientific discoveries have often been twisted by people ranging from the casually corrupt to the willfully and excessively evil for their purposes. This is just another case of that, and in no way serves to disprove the actual Darwinian principles, and the legitimate and beneficial purposes they have been developed into.

This is a great looking movie that is coming at the right time. We need more illumination of the concepts that the Founding Fathers were promoting with their writings and the Governmental Documents they authored to provide a road map for future generations.
I would also refer you all to a great organization called Constituting America ( http://constitutingamerica.org/ ) which has a goal of inspiring our youth to learn the Constitution and understand that it is the road map that governs and ensures our liberties. Another example of how we must take our Country back from the bottom up.
You just gave me the chills. I never believed that the Mayan calendar meant "the end of the world" like destruction. We were even told that when we visited Chichen Itza. It meant the end of an era and the beginning of a new one.
And because it lands just a month and 1/2 after those elections, you really made me sit up and take notice.
I'm now officially creeped out.
And I see my daughters and I know I have to try. And I'm less trained and less prepared than many of you. But yet I know I will try.
You know, I caught the final scene of Saving Private Ryan over the weekend. And I know it has its problems as a film, but that scene where Ryan is old and visiting Miller's grave and wondering if he did live his life worthy enough to make up for Miller losing his and I kept thinking about how we have screwed over our children and grandchildren. Not all of us individually, but many Americans have. And I cried because I don't want my children to live in slavery and tyranny. I want them to have better than I did, but right now I don't even have it better than my parents and they at least had it better than theirs.
People can say what they want about Disney, but they had a special Christmas Story special at Disneyland I think it was 2009. And Jon Voight was the one that did the reading. It was quite beautiful and moving.
Well said. Evolution explains how life evolved, not how life was first created. It does not, per se, push God out of the equation.
I can't think of a better way for God to have created us – using essentially reason. We evolved as our brains and thinking evolved. We stood up, used our hands more which activitated our brains more and so it went to the point where we have this wonderous frontal lobe that allows us to even contemplate God and art and music and the whole universe.
And whenever I think of the phrase "made in God's image" I highly doubt God looks like we do physically. I see it more like our SOULS were made in the image of God. But that's just me.
I have that effect on most people….

You must know that there is an element in this country that will fight kicking and screaming at the mention of "going back to our roots"; they will say that our country will once again use slaves as a workforce. However, they do not state that there are already slaves in America: the average working people paying the taxes that support a class determined to rape this country and take everything for free and, thereby, lose their freedom. It's only a step away.

Some 13 years ago, we went to Colonial Williamsburg and took the full guided tour. During that tour, they told the real, documented, historical account of Williamsburg and the people who lived there – not the MSM version. It was a truly informative experience, and well worth the time and expense if you can do it.
Certainly beats out the 'Masonic' version of our history so popular these days…

Please stop attacking Darwin. It makes you sound crazy. All life on earth evolved from common ancestors. To accept that does not mean you don't believe in God. It just means that "God works in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform." The Bible was not written by God, it was written by men, flawed individuals trying to understand the mind of God. Inspired, but still flawed. Do you presume to know how God works? Well, as he said to Job, "Where were YOU when I made the world?"

I have a feeling it will be this year's "I Want Your Money" for me, in that I will learn a ton of things about how crooked and worthless our government has become, how far they've strayed from the intention of our Founding Fathers and how they have no respect or regard for the people they serve.
