Sarah Palin: One Year Later
by John ZieglerOn August 29th, 2008, I woke up and, like almost every other American, was stunned by the news that Sarah Palin had been chosen as John McCain’s running mate. It was not that I had never heard of her or didn’t want her to be the pick (I had publicly called for her consideration numerous times), but because it was so clearly a very bold and risky maneuver and a true surprise in an era when we seemingly know everything well before it happens.
Moments after I heard the news I did a radio interview and predicted that the news media would destroy her in their transparent quest to pave the way for Barack Obama’s historic election. I had no idea just how right that “blink” calculation would be and I certainly never would have guessed that I would become a small part of that story by dedicating my life and fortune to documenting just how unbelievably bad it would get.
The last twelve months of Sarah Palin’s life truly bring new meaning to the phrase “what a difference a year makes.” I strongly believe that no public figure in modern America has ever endured more stress, pressure and unfair scrutiny in a more dignified fashion than she has over the past year (though what George W. Bush tolerated over the last three years of his presidency probably comes in a close second).
On August 28th of last year Sarah Palin was a largely unknown governor considered to be a rising star largely because of her willingness to take on Republicans in a way that had endeared her to Democrats. Today she is an ex-governor wrongly perceived by most of the country and virtually all of the news media as an erratic, unqualified, lightweight and ultra-partisan Republican who can’t even mange her own family.
What did she do exactly to deserve this unfortunate perception? I have literally gone around the country (screening my film “Media Malpractice” which features an exclusive interview with then Governor Palin) and asked numerous media outlets that question and I have yet to get a remotely sensible answer.
The best I can come up with (oddly, this is hardly ever mentioned when the topic comes up) is that, after having to deal with three or four sittings with a Katie Couric who was clearly out to get her, she did not name a supreme court case with which she disagrees other than Roe v. Wade. Other than that, my documentary proves that every other alleged transgression that she committed has been either blown out of proportion or simply made up by a news media that obviously had both a political and financial agenda against her. When you consider all of the whopper-sized blunders committed by her campaign counterpart Joe Biden, the unfair treatment of Palin does become, at least based on the live audience reactions to my film, rather hilarious.
On top of this, I wish you to consider the unique circumstances Palin was dealing with while she went through the last year, circumstances that a remotely fair media would have considered a remarkably successful and nearly error-free year.
If, in just one spin around the sun, you had given birth to a baby with Down’s Syndrome (that even mainstream media outlets would not fully accept as really belonging to you even though there was no other biological possibility), had your unmarried teenage daughter’s pregnancy (and later, her sex life) become fodder for massive worldwide coverage, had your first child sent to Iraq, had your fourteen-year-old, non-public figure daughter become the subject of rape jokes on national television, had your reputation and character destroyed by lies intended to foster the election of a man you knew would forever change/destroy the country you love, were prevented from doing your day job by a group of loser bloggers who lay awake at night (probably under the roof of their parents’ homes) dreaming of being interviewed by Keith Olbermann, and were thrown under the bus by numerous people on your “side” because they decided it was in their self-interest to do so — what are the chances you would not be left in the fetal position in a pool of your own drool?
But instead of cracking under this unprecedented pressure, Sarah Palin has proven her courage (and perhaps wisdom) by simply pivoting. While I disagreed with the timing of her decision to resign as Governor (mostly because I knew it would be misperceived as “quitting” by those who didn’t understand the facts on the ground in Alaska), I know it was done out of intentions that in a just world would be rewarded and not condemned. So far, it has also proven to be remarkably effective. After all, what other housewife from Wasilla, Alaska could have possibly altered the course of the health care debate (and possibly the entire Obama presidency) by simply posting some strong and well-footnoted opinions on her Facebook page?!
So, what have we learned from Sarah Palin’s remarkable year? Hopefully, we have learned a lot.
Among other things, we should have learned…
That surprise announcements can often create more long-term perception problems than they are worth (at least when they come from Republicans).
That to the media if you are a young, good looking, charismatic, non-white male without a long resume and are a conservative running for Vice-President, you are an embarrassment to the country. But if you are a young, good-looking, charismatic, non-white male without a long resume and are a socialist running for President, you are the Second Coming.
That the candidate who told the truth the most during the 2008 campaign was Sarah Palin.
That the media is perfectly willing and able to destroy someone’s character simply because it suits their political and economic agenda and will stop at nothing to do so.
That there are far too many high-profile “conservatives” willing to sell out their “cause” to gain favor with the news media and that there is almost no accountability for their treason.
That the left understands that this is a war where “assassinating” leaders of the other side is perfectly acceptable, while the right seems to still think that this is a picnic and that the Sarah Palins of the world grow on trees.
That the only people more threatened by a highly successful and good looking mom than liberal women, are Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, David Letterman and Bill Maher.
That the power of being a celebrity is far greater than the power of being Governor of Alaska.
That the ex-boyfriend of the daughter of the ex-Governor of Alaska can get treated as a media star if it is perceived to hurt a prominent conservative.
That more character was revealed in Sarah Palin over the past twelve months than America probably deserves in a politician.
That August 29th, 2008 was a seminal moment in our politics and media which has changed, perhaps forever, the rules of engagement in a way that may make it impossible for conservatives to ever fully recover and should truly frighten all fair-minded Americans.
If we don’t heed these lessons, then we will deserve what we will inevitably get.

The toughest, most inciteful woman in America…….truth teller….a real warrior……the object of the progressives hate and smear campaign. This is reason enough to admire and vote for Sarah Palin. God Bless You!!!
…and bless her heart, she single-handedly inflicted grave damage on HR 3200 and re-energized the GOP by simply speaking the truth when no other public figure was willing to.
You really nail it, Mr. Zeigler.
There has been more truth and common sense uttered by Sarah Palin in the last year than from the Congress in the past 45 years.
The MSM has been totally devoid of either for as long.
The more negatives the media and the talking heads lamely attempt to put forth about Ms. Palin, the stronger conservatives will unite to support her. This is my one disagreement with your observation that "……..which has changed, perhaps forever, the rules of engagement in a way that may make it impossible for conservatives to ever fully recover…………".
John – you have been a great champion of Governor Palin. Nice post; I own your DVD and appreciate your work.
Sheep, all of you.
They go after Sarah not, because of their ill perceived perception of her but, because she, along with President Obama, have totally rejuvenated the Conservative base.
Excellent analysis! Glad to see you did not falter from telling the truth about the Second Coming. He is a socialist…and I know you are not being rhetorical or using hyperbole. This is exactly what most Americans still do not get. The double standard and contrast is also amazing between the so-called inexperience of a white female conservative and a non-white radical male from Chicago. This story is really not about Palin. Its about the revelation that we now have a media that is for the most part state run and left wing which will do anything to influence and control public opinion. They have subverted their constitutional role as a free press and vanguard of the people. This is the real story…the real danger and tragedy.
An amazing woman who has the wisdom to remove the target and quit being the hunted, and change into being the hunter. She doesn’t strike as the kind of person that runs from a fight, and I believe she is going to box Barry’s ears either as a candidate or a private person. Thank you Sarah for your courage and grace, and I will always watch your back, and I end by saying …happy hunting!
When prominent male Republicans advise Palin to take a few years to study & learn, they are being peevish, paternal & patronizing–it diminishes them, not her. Study & learn WHAT? P.S. You can see Russia from Alaska, in some places it's only a few miles away. Anyone who laughs at that is showing a glaring ignorance of common geography.
I have asked several liberal acquaintances to explain to me the vitriol and outright hatred, especially among women, generated by Governor Palin. The normal talking points came up, but what I have gleaned from these conversations can be boiled simply to two things: Fear and Jealousy.
I hate to sound like I am oversimplifying this but the conversations always comeback to one of these 2 things.
Fear- Palin's ability to communicate through the camera directly to the audience scared the hell out of the pols on the Left., who saw the one of the primary abilities that allowed Reagan to use the bully pulpit to circumvent the DC/NY intelligentsia.
Jealousy- This won't be popular, but Palin's ability to rise to a position of power on her own, while maintaining a solid family life flies in the face of the feminist narrative that you have to sign on to the "sisterhood" in order to achieve. Also, and I think this point has gotten downplayed, Palin's decision to have a special needs child and not abort, is a challenge to people who chose otherwise.
FWIW
You nailed it — convention night they saw someone look into the camera and connect with the people in a way not seen since Reagan and as we all know, abortion trumps everything for them — they want us to forget that RvW was really about controlling lower class and handicapped populations
"That the left understands that this is a war where “assassinating” leaders of the other side is perfectly acceptable, while the right seems to still think that this is a picnic and that the Sarah Palins of the world grow on trees. "
**********************************************************************************************************************
I actually laughed out loud when I read that. The right wing loonies, like the people who believed that Sarah Palin had even close to the level of intelligence needed to lead this country, have been doing absolutely nothing except trying to "assassinate" Obama, with their vicious and lying attacks.
Betty, the problem was not that Sarah was correct about seeing Russia from Alaska, the problem was that she claimed that as her extensive level of foreign policy experience……..which was just another of the insane aspects of her candidacy. And that you would even bring that up shows the lunacy of her supporters.
That's nice. Tell that to Tina Fey.
Sarah Palin NEVER said that she "can see Russia from her house." Tina Fey did. Tina Fey was mocking Sarah Palin's assertion that she has foreign policy experience since Russia does business with Alaskan oil companies, and she has to negotiate the legislation and various other diplomatic work concerning such matters. This seems reasonable; however, most of the Obamakins are too busy watching Saturday Night Live to actually listen to the debates and interviews.
What did Obama have as foreign policy experience? Oh, that's right…Joe "the Gaffer" Biden was supposed to handle that.
That is as opposed to say …your Barry! Hmmm…
I think we're beginning to see the media's pure contempt for "common" people. Sarah Palin was the embodiment of the average American, and the media was afraid that we would find out. She was spot on, and the liberals knew that if they didn't slander her, she would send the Democratic Party into a deeper recession than Obama can create for us now.
Evidence of this is Chris "tickle up my leg" Matthews' reaction after her acceptance speech. He easily aged 20 years and looked like he soiled himself. He could only say, "uh..yea…that was a good speech…" Pure magic.
Just as the media demonized Palin, they're now coming after us. They've been empowered by their attack on Palin. Look at descent in the town hall meetings is reported. "They're against Obamacare…they're racist and against the people…they might try to kill Obama!" Media hates common, working class people. Pure and simple.
Hi John…
Have/really-like your DVD, and I miss your radio show. Nice to know you're still out there. I, too, like Palin, but think it was a mistake for her to drop out of Alaskan politics for exactly the reason you said. But I also welcome her proving me wrong in the next three-years-ten-weeks.
Thank you Mr. Zeigler
Wow. I don't think that I have read an article about the media and Palin that can compare. VERY well done.
Just got back from Alaska last week. Seemed like nobody was really interested in talking about former Governor Palin. Maybe they're just tired. But I think they should rethink that. What was done to her is disgusting.
How's life in the obama flock?
care to expand or do you just want to insult and run.
With every sword strike by the MSM, she walks away unharmed. They try to take her down and they just look like fools in the process. And she doesn't have to go down to their level. She just says or does what she wants and then watch the usual suspects go nuts!
Class. That's whats sums Mrs. Palin to a word. And what her critics lack.
Certainly Palin's experience more than sufficiently qualified her candicacy than did that of Community Organizer Obama – a whole 6 months do-nothing 'voting present' Senate career. puh–leeze.
Surely you can do better than that. Or maybe not, given the little regarding Obama you have to work with.
"Sarah Palin was the embodiment of the average American, and the media was afraid that we would find out."
Someday, someone is going to be hailed as the next Neitzsche for a book (or whatever we're reading then) that simply asks the question "WHEN and why, exactly, did we start holding up 'average' as some kind of ideal?"
While it's true Sarah is pursued by the media, it is also true she made it easy for this to happen. Her rambling, often disconnected speeches and silly answers to simple questions exposed not just her naivitee about many issues, but also her complete inability to think on her feet. Her constant referrals to her children and her parade of them at political functions both in Alaska and during the campaign put them in the firing zone for those unscrupulous enough to use them as targets. She has little to show for her leadership roles beyond a divisiveness that grinds political issues to a halt. One year later we have a woman who still has ineffective communication skills – not just hers, but within her staff- and who still energizes people not with her vision but with her inciteful declarations of victimization. The single most attraction she seems to have among her loyal male fans is her looks. Among her female fans, its her folksiness. Neither are acceptable qualifications for any political office.
If Barack Obama is as smart as everyone says, it sure doesn't show in his first 7 months. The man is a disaster. I'd take Sarah and her alleged lack of intelligence any time.
…squawked the parrot.
Palin's decision to have a special needs child and not abort is a decision she would have taken away from every other American woman. (I know many women with special needs children who never even considered the idea of terminating their pregnancies. They scoff at Sarah as any kind of example here.) This is what Sarah's follower's tend to gloss over – that she had the freedom of choice and used it.
America would be fortunate to have Sarah Palin for President. If there's one politician willing to take on the criminals in that sewer called congress it's her.
In all other areas, we only want the best. We demand excellence. "Average" is the ideal in a representative democracy when we actually expect our politicians to "represent" our ideals. We want leadership to emerge from the people, not descend from some ruling elite. We want someone sensitive to our needs, not someone who lords over us like a king.
Then why so… worried?
I mean, I don't spend a lot of time worrying about politicians like, oh, Walter Mondale. I had to confirm that he was still alive, actually.
Yet you and others seem to spend an inordinate amount of time obsessing about a politician you claim is worthless. Something tells me you really don't think she's quite as "silly" or "rambling" as you want her to be… but you do feel an urge to make sure others believe that. So they'll abandon her.
I would rather put it…she embodies the American dream – that an average citizen through hard work and perseverance can excel and succeed and become ABOVE-AVERAGE. She is by no means anymore an average American, but she was. There lies the distinct difference.
She was off the national scene the day after the election and these people with emotional issues haven't let her go. We should take up a fund to get them some help.
JamesS: I believe you need to look for a three letter word “jobs.” But, alas they’re not hiring in the 57th state.
Have you seen Obama without a teleprompter? Given a teleprompter error, Barack Obama introduces himself to a crowd. Now THAT'S pathetic.
Obama's two little girls have had just as much media attention as the Palin family. Politicians always bring their family along. It's supposed to humanize the candidate and give them support. Nothing wrong with that. We'll never insult the Obama children; we find the media's predatory conduct towards the Palin family disgraceful.
She seems rather… desperate to make sure people like yourself and I think she's stupid.
Cute try, her claiming Palin was "parading" her children and that makes all the attacks upon them acceptable. Vicious little weasels like that always have an excuse for why they went beyond the pale.
Funny thing is, I have a feeling Palin would not be quite as much of a factor in politics she is today if people had… left her alone to carry out her term. Oops.
So, "what's in it for you Katie?"
If the liberal responses and hate for her weren't so childish and unfounded on the grounds of fact, it would be nerve wracking. But it is so funny to see that a little woman up in the state of Alaska gets their panties in such a bunch. Priceless.
If the liberal responses and hate for her weren't so childish and unfounded on the grounds of fact, it would be nerve wracking. But it is so funny to see that a little woman up in the state of Alaska gets their panties in such a bunch, and I'm sure Olbermann shops Victoria's Secret for his.
I love this woman. However, I think she may well be even more powerful if she stays out of office and instead leads the culture, via tv and other media. Take Rush or O'Reilly for example – giant influences on the culture who could never get elected but who wield far more power than most politicians. Perhaps she might be electable if this venal socialist in the White House now ends up as the most unpopular President of all time – which I think is a distinct possibility. If the culture has shifted far enough away from socialism – both hard core Dem and soft core Rep by the time this joker's term is up – then she might have a chance.
I still find it disturbing that McCain and the GOP just let her swing in the breeze. She was temporarily marginalized by Moose hunting and Alaska's juxtaposition to Putin. What was done to her, whether you like her or not is disgusting. Fair play? Just words. Olbermann, Matthews, Letterman and Maher may well be the four horsemen of the apocolypse.
Just to be clear: Obama is a socialist by definition, I was at the Tax Day Tea Party holding a sign, and I know Reagan was a great leader.
Having said that–can the party I pre-registered with at SEVENTEEN (a decade ago) please give up on the Palin thing and find some REAL LEADERS? The woman quit an executive post under pressure. There's no other way to spin it, and it's an A-1 sign of bad leadership.
What happened to fiscal responsibility while Bush was in office? What happened to our promise not to nation-build? What happened to the constitution, which Bush and his cronies happily chipped away at in the last eight years? WHERE ARE THE REPUBLICAN DEFENDERS OF THE CONSTITUTION? Palin is not one of them. Bush was not one of them. Enough engaging the liberals on their idiotic small-minded attacks, people.
Let's get back to the roots of our party and find someone who is going to lead us under the BOUNDARIES OF THE DOCUMENTS THAT FOUNDED OUR COUNTRY. Wanna know how to prevent the next 9/11? Keep every able-citizen armed. Enough nation-building! Enough puddle jumping our men and women into pointless wars! Enough domestic spying! Enough overspending!
WHERE ARE THE REAL REPUBLICANS?
Whats amusing about JameS straight from the narrative lefty take on Palin is that first of all they never want to compare Palin to Biden, who is a plagiarizing imbecile, but to Obama who we're supposed to take on faith despite every scholastic record of his sealed by the schools he attended, is apparently a genius. Considering his track record so far, I'd say if genius is as genius does, then this guy is far from it. I'd be curious as to what harm James thinks Obama has suffered at the hands of the Right since he has virtually had his way with this nation until we got to health care. Fact is Dems always elevate their candidates to sainthood and the opposition either to corrupt evil captialists or morons. Witness Al Gore who was a stodgy boring wonk until he became the Lefts candidate upon which he became the ethereal and thoughtful genius (middling university grades and failures at graduate school notwithstanding)____
John, step away from your crack pipe.
Thank you for this article, spot-on. If the Media had gone after the other side with the same "truth-seeking", we likely would be in economic recovery, with a Rep. President, not putting our grandkids into socialistic servitude, paying back the trillions now being spent with zero effect.
"ex-boyfriend of the daughter of the ex-Governor of Alaska"
This is misleading and therefore dishonest. Why ruin a good, "skin in the game" article with glaring deceptions (and so many damn paranthesis; Christ sakes use them once or twice an article if you need to but no more they are annoying)?
When Ricky H'Wood got fame he was the father of the V.P. nominee's daughter's soon to be child.
Should we know much about him? I don't know, should Hugh Hewitt have talked about John McCain acting fatherly toward him? Should Dick H'Wood, limited in some respects, not jump at his one chance for what he certainly percieves is a ticket out of Wassilla?
Who the hell are we talking about him now for that matter, although I do note Mr. Ziegler did not mention the kid's name.
Right on John,
Like the old Merrill Lynch commercial, When Sarah speaks everyone listens! Sarah speaks to the common man, that transends party lines. She speaks clear unlike Obama speak and all the globety gook with hear from the liberals. Sarah is doing her country a good service by being free from being Governor of Alaska, she sticks her finger in eyes of the left. I look forward to all of her posts.
But… Al Gore invented the internet! And he's saving us from Global Warming! Only a true genius could do that!
James, James, James – now pay attention. It was FEY who said that Sarah said she could see Russia from her house. Sarah didn't have to because it 's just an everyday fact in Alaska. I live in California and I can see Mexico. Now that you know the facts, don't keep repeating made up jokes as political points. Do not repeat it!
I don't know… you are the one that said "BAAAAAAAAA"
In paragraph 13, the first occurrence of "non-white male" should read "white female". I think.
As of last month, she was still the most-googled public figure of the year, when the election had been over for nine months. Who was still talking about John Edwards nine months after he wasn't elected Vice President? For that matter, who was still talking about John Kerry, who didn't become President?
"The best I can come up with (oddly, this is hardly ever mentioned when the topic comes up) is that, after having to deal with three or four sittings with a Katie Couric who was clearly out to get her, she did not name a supreme court case with which she disagrees other than Roe v. Wade."
I'm still waiting for Palin or Ziegler or any other breitbot to explain why Palin couldn't name a single newspaper or magazine she reads. Why couldn't she mention 'The Frontiersman'(Wasilla's paper), or 'Anchorage Daily News'? Has Palin ever heard of 'Time' or 'Newsweek'? If she'd said one of those, this would be a non-event. That was such a softball question and she made Couric(one of the weakest "journalists" of our time)look like a grand inquisitor. Palin came off stupid in that interview and has no one to blame but herself, but Ziegler blames the press.
Whatever happened to conservatives who believe in "personal responsibility"?
Yeah Sarah Palin does have a lot of common sense and understanding of the issues. I've never seen someone with so much common sense in my life. LOL.
"As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border." –Sarah Palin, explaining why Alaska's proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, interview with CBS's Katie Couric, Sept. 24, 2008
Imagine a Fox daytime show: "Sarah". Similar format to Oprah, with live studio audience and all. I don't know why this hasn't already happened. The show would get such a big audience. Through this Sarah could help to change the culture, and perhaps even swing the notoriously Dem-voting women's block away from the entitlement/grievance/identity politics culture that they so favor now.
Great article.
Palin's treatment by the state-run media was a wake up call to ALL Americans that the media has lost any pretense of objectivity – not that they really ever had any. We saw the way the media treated Hillary during the primary, which was so obviously biased even SNL ridiculed it. And then they unleashed their demonic horde on Palin, while ignoring the extensive web of questionable Obama relationships. Never in my life have I witnessed someone so unfairly targeted with lies, abuse and hatred as Governor Palin. It made BDS look like a mild cold.
Last year's election for me was frightening with the prospect of the most radical leftist ever to be nominated by the Democrat party. Obama made Bill Clinton look almost Conservative in comparison. Republicans dredged up a nominee that just barely beat out Bob Dole as the worst Republican nominee in my political lifetime. But to McCain's credit, his pick of Palin was brilliant. In an otherwise sad campaign, I will always be thankful for McCain's selection of Palin and her promotion to the national stage. For once in a long time, this Conservative has hope for our future.
Actually, like many of us, she didn't see it as a choice that needed to be made at all.
"But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed, when the roar of the crowd fades away, when the stadium lights go out and those styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot, what exactly is our opponents plan? "– Sarah Palin Sept…. 2008
Zig, you speak the truth. We miss your dulcet tones on the airwaves–yet again!
James, you might want to check your own geographical knowledge.
What's even funnier is she was the VP candidate. They treated her as though she was going for the #1 spot and John McCain didn't exist.
And just HOW would Palin take away a woman's choice? Abortion is the law of the land, she can't just willy-nilly change it even if she were President. Don't use invalid arguments. Just say what you mean. You hate her because _______________________________ fill in the blank, but be accurate and honest.
You had your choice NOT to get pregnant and you HAVE the choice to give the baby up. You DON'T have the right to take a innocent human life. That life is NOT your choice. Jane Roe (Roe vs Wade) wrote this book Won by Love. It is a very interesting story, how she feels she was used for a bigger agenda. As a minority woman I feel very strongly against abortion and what it does to women (especially poor minority women) Margret Sanger the founder of Planned Parenthood was not as "for women’s rights" as many think. She was for the advancement of her race, and felt "undesirable" (poor, uneducated, minorities) should not reproduce. That doesn't sound to "pro choice" to me.
Oh I think jealousy is a HUGE reason the left hates her. She represents everything feminism should support. She's successful, beautiful, smart and most of all– she seems happy being a mother and wife. I think there's a lot of bitterness among women who haven't been able to manage a successful career and marriage. The men…I'm not sure. David Letterman seems rather obsessed with her doesn't he? Maybe that's a case of hating what you can't have….
Well, Americans over the last four months have signed up to her facebook at the average rate of about 369 per hour which comes to about 7,400(+ or -) for 24 hours.
And, she was never on Oprah's campaign show.
Ahhh, I meant to thumbs-up that one and accidentally hit the down one! Now I have to find another comment you made to rectify that.
Great point– that's what I was really trying to say.
What so you can saddle up?
So where can we find one of those three letter words, "jobs?"
And that's what has the left going crazy. She's an attention grabber (like their guy) but she actually has experience and good policy, not just charisma. So they have to undermine her at every opportunity. Doesn't seem to be working that well though…
I'll show you another way to spin it. Palin was doing a fine job as Governor. But a cabal came in to tie her up & tape her mouth in any way they could. They successfully destroyed her ability to govern. Try to do your job when you are effectively locked up. So she removed herself as a target. Took a position where she could speak freely and left Alaska in the capable hands of her Lt. Gov. It was brilliant. She neutralized the power of her critics. Well, actually, that's not spin, it's factual. Now stop using 'she quit' as a reason for your personal dislike of Palin–it reeks of sexism.
Sarah Palin is standing tall in triumph of her life while jealous little sweetie Katie is still sitting down whining and b*tching about what a loser is her life.
Really? I actually do know several women with special needs children (I worked in education) and they certainly don't scoff at Sarah Palin as an example. That seems like a bogus statement to me.

If living next to Russia automatically gives you foreign policy experience, then I'm an expert on Middle Eastern relations because my co-worker is from Pakistan.
The Couric interview was terrible, but there is something that has always stuck in my craw. Mrs. Palin only spoke live and unedited to the American public twice, and both times did a wonderful job. Yes I know speech writers are employed by both sides, but she still provided the energy, and due to an unpausing teleprompter had to do most of her first speech from memory. Everytime she did interviews, which were always edited and pieced together by the MSM, she came across as a bumpkin. If Mr. Obama didn't get to pre-approve all his questions and was set loose w/ a conservative interviewer who was free to edit the interview as they wanted would he uhhhh uhhhhh sound or do any better? We'll never know. Give me unedited w/ Sarah any time. BTW, my Alaskan friends love Sarah before and after the national scene.
Amen, and go Sarah! 2012 is coming!
I think Sarah Palin represents a current version of American populism. Her issues differ from other populists in history, like Huey Long. But her appeal resonates with those that admire a certain charisma, the ability to speak plainly for folks who aren't interested in nuances or pointy headed analysis. She speaks for those who hearken back to a simpler a time of small government and isolationism. Are those ideals good for America in the 21st Century? That is the $250,000 question.
Prequalifier: I am an Alaskan, conservative woman. I did not vote Palin for Governor.
I'm with you on this one. Palin's a nice lady, and honestly, one hell of a politician. However, I've always thought she was all talk. Guys, she's not that conservative! She expanded the role of government in Alaska, introduced a massive tax increase on our oil industry, and spent millions of state monies on a gas pipeline that's not the best deal for Alaska. Looks them up: ACES, AGEA, they're disasters for this state! She may be very morally conservative, but fiscally? Not even close! If you're looking for a true Alaskan conservative- I suggest you look up Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan- there's a man who know how to save money!
I always wondered about those 100+ lawyers in Alaska. What the attrition rate was, you know, fed to bears… walked off short piers… used as crab bait, (oh wait, there are things crabs won't eat.)
I mean, I've been to Alaska. They're a very polite bunch and don't tolerate bad manners like lawyers, anonymous bloggers and such.

How many (Katie) courics do you weigh? Should Bono be worried?
Oh, you are so right! I would love to see her come face to face with some of those pompous idiots. That's what I love about Palin. She speaks her mind regardless of what people think about her. We need more people that are willing to tell how they really feel about something instead of worrying about the next vote.
Go, Sarah!
And Biden loves him the "Indians" that work at the 7-11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIT3jUrNTX0
More foreign policy experience and more executive experience than Obama had, James. Ya just can't stand that your choice, the Harvard guy and his VP, are the real doofuses. I'll see you in line at the hospital, er, post office.
We can always rely on Oily Taint for incoherent ramblings. Thanks Oily!
Do you think a conservative candidate can ever win another election in the U. S. with the smut that the media throws at them? It really worries me that this is going on.
Silly analogy.
That said; you may not be aware of the fact that governors command their state's National Guard.
Unlike to your small cubicle, Alaska is a major component of America's national primary defense.
Now that the weak horse is in the White House leading us all to the slaughter house, I find it fascinating you don't seem have a problem with Obama betraying our allies across the world.
I'll never get to 76 points. LOL. that's OK I've done that myself. I just posted one on the next article about the CIA. 76 or bust. Be Well.
Thank you Ziegler, its a very insightful article.
The liberals like to belittle Sarah Pailin's foreign policy experience. As someone living in the far east, I can say what Sarah Palin is doing is earning her fans not just in USA but many conservative minded people around the world. She also certainly strikes a chord with many who has chosen to go ahead to have intellectually-challenged kids. She is greatly admired for her strength of character.
Its very striking what she said about being able to see Russia from Alaska. It was like prophetic in some way with the way Socialism is taking place in the USA. Now one year later, I can tell you from right here in the far east in Singapore, I am beginning to see bits of Russia in America.
She published an Op Ed in the Times, had written letters to the San Francisco Chronicles, things Couric could have found out with the minimum of research. Is that the standard compared to Biden, who thought Hezbollah was kicked out of Lebanon, and he was watching FDR on the TV during the Depression. Yes Russia, has continued to 'rear their head' with MIGS, except Obama's cutting the fighter compliment to local bases, dismantling our missile defense, blocking any oil development in Alaska
So ToddM,why couldn't Palin name a single paper or magazine? Enlighten us please.

That's a lie popularized by Drudge and Erick Erickson, multiple sources said the teleprompter didn't break that night.

Of course Levi Johnston should not jump at a chance to get out of Wasilla, not if it involves publicly trashing the mother of his child. A decent human being would not have to be told that.
Wasn't it just sooo coincidental that amid the surging upswing of announcing Palin that looked like they were closing in on The One Team, when suddenly the "financial panic" broke? Soros, the man who owns the Dems has fingerprints on trying to destroy Société Générale in '88, Mexican 1994 peso collapse, Indonesia '97 collapse, Bitian's pound collapse in '98, We know they're willing to do ANYTHING to win. A year later and they're still going after Palin? Too conspiratoral? Just saying……
2012
She has my vote
Then how do you explain the state coming in with money to spare when she was governor?
I certainly would not have stood in line to vote for 3 hours if McCain had chosen Joe Lieberman as his VP.
I've also noted that the Obot response has fallen off when the Palin word is used….maybe they have not been paid just like the auto dealers?
"We want leadership to emerge from the people, not descend from some ruling elite."
And I want Jennifer Connelly and Kate Winslet to be waiting upstairs to re-enact a more enjoyable alternate-ending of "Little Children" for me when I go to bed tonight. We've both got about the same chance of getting what we want.
By definition, a leader is NOT average, even if at one point they seemed to be. Representative Democracy wasn't designed to remove the "elite" – as long as leaders are needed for anything and merit matters there will ALWAYS be an "elite" of damn near everything – it was designed to allow the GENUINE elite to come to power as opposed to an in-name-only "elite" selected by family ties or political favors.
I don't want the president to be "sensitive to my needs." His/her job is to protect me from our mutual enemies and otherwise to stay the hell out of my way. I'LL tend to my needs, thank you very much.
