Sarah Palin Proves She’s No George Bush
by John ZieglerBack in January, when the media firestorm over my “Media Malpractice” interview with Governor Sarah Palin erupted, I wrote on this website that it was my belief that she was no George W. Bush. I can now say with even greater certainty that I was absolutely correct in that assertion.
The reason I felt that way initially, was that after several days of the news media cherry picking snippets from my interview with her in an out of context way that appeared designed to make Palin seem whiny and weak (the exact opposite of what she actually was during the interview), she had a couple of choices. Basically she could try to pretend the interview and the issue of how the media lied to destroy her candidacy didn’t really exist, lick her wounds, mitigate whatever perceived political damage there might have been (though with her base the interview was CLEARLY a huge hit) and never speak of the topic again, or she could continue the fight for the truth regardless of the potential consequences.
The vast majority of politicians (like George W. Bush) would curl up into the fetal position and concede defeat to the media in such situations, and I have to confess that I feared Palin may wilt under the same pressure that shattered the previous administration. But when the Governor called me that weekend and I mentioned learning the lessons of George Bush not fighting back against the news media, it was immediately obvious to me that Palin “got it.”
Well, that was clearly confirmed by a stem winder of a speech she gave this week at a Lincoln Day Dinner in Alaska. If there was any doubt about Palin standing strong in her desire to correct the historical record about her, her family and her VP candidacy, it now appears to have vanished. As reported prominently today by AOL/CNN (it took a shocking long time for the speech to be reported on at all in the “lower 48,” and if you go through the photo gallery most of the quotes are from my interview, and a “Big Hollywood” column of mine regarding Keith Olbermann is misreported), Palin continued to express many of the themes that she outlined in my documentary.
Governor Palin plainly stated the obvious reality (as proven beyond a doubt in “Media Malpractice”) that there was an “unprecedented level of media slant” against her during the campaign. She also verified a personal theory of mine as to why Palin, in her own words, was “naïve” about how the news media would treat her.
She declared, “Some in the media actually participated in not so much the ‘who-what-where-when-why’ objective reporting on candidates and positions, those five W’s that I learned when I had a journalism degree so many years ago in college, when the world of journalism was quite different than it is today.”
Who could blame someone who graduated in the 80’s during a year in journalism when there was at least some self restraint on the inherent liberal agenda (I always find it amusing that Sam Donaldson, the scourge of conservatives during the Reagan years, now seems downright fair in retrospect) for being more than a bit shocked that the rules had been completely changed without anyone officially doing so.
“No, things have changed,” she said. “But complaining? Or whining? Absolutely not. But I am going to call it like I see it. It doesn’t do any good to whine about any of this. But I can call it like I see it. Sometimes it gets me in a lot of trouble when I speak candidly, and I speak from the heart and I do such a thing. But I am going to.”
No, Sarah Palin has clearly learned the lessons of George W. Bush, and anyone who cares about fairness and justice in the media should be thankful for that reality.

Bush not fighting back was just unbelievable. I don't know who was advising him on that point, but they should banned from the Republican Party for life for that stinking, defeatist decision.
John
Media Malpractice was fantastic. But then you had a great star. She bounced out from under that pile-on ,smiled and carried on. What a trooper.
As our State Department would say, " I can kiss Russia's ass from my house !"
Thanks
If I win the lottery this weekend, one million dollars is going to Sarah Palin's defense fund. God bless you for what you're doing to help her, John.
I can proudly say I voted for her in her Vice Presidential run. I'm trying to forget who her running mate was. I'm also proud that she is taking a stand like she is.
Bush thought it "unpresidential" to fight back against the media. Well, that was a fatal mistake that we must never repeat.
I love her, I love her, I love her.
She reminds me of why I am *proud* to be a Conservative.
I am so pleased that Palin isn't handling the media's treatment of her like every other Conservative– which is to pretend it doesn't bother them. Obviously the 'high road' strategy doesn't work [which is what I think Bush was going for]. The fact is, if we let them, the Liberals will continue to paint a picture of the Conservative side that is untrue, unflattering and flat out dangerous to this country. I don't know how it happened, but a lot of Conservatives in this country take an almost apologetic attitude toward their beliefs when faced with a rabid Liberal– how the heck did that happen? I live in Ca and I have fallen prey to this myself. But I have finally reached the point of being well and truly sick of having to defend a pro-life, pro-capitalism, pro-defense stance. I'm taking my cues from Palin. No more backing down.
Gov.Palin is a real fighter and has a lot of guts.
I have great respect for this lady; she is not afraid of the lib media.
Unfortunately Bush was not fighting back ; she does.
The unprecedents levels of hate directed at her still today tell you how much the left worries about her. As far away as Alaska is from the rest of the US, they'd let her go if she was as unremarkable as they'd like us to think she is.
The decision that could wind up sinking America. Utterly idiotic.
It was such a shame at how President Bush responded to the media. Although, you have the other extreme where the second the media turned on Obama (a teeny, tiny bit), Obama immediately held a press conference and whined about it. But, Bush did not reiterate the facts near enough (and thus confront the media) and I blame his advisors for that.
And Palin would go State one better and say "and Russia can kiss my ass from their house."
It's great to see someone stand up for themselves and not cower to the very people who tried to crucify her during the campaign. I contributed to her campaign as soon as she was put on the ticket and I'll do it again. The left is going after because she IS a threat to them. Their ideal woman is a pencil-pushing bureaucrat. She defies that vision in every way. It's great to see a person with such a great smile, light up the crowds wherever she goes.
Sarah Palin…love her, she is such a strong self assured woman, who is kicking ass and definietly taking names. When she was introduced i immediately felt that she was such a confident, capable woman ready to go to bat for her beliefs and her country, that is the kind of leadership America needs, not wishy washy apologist liberals (even if i did like the humility of GWB).
btw signing in from Guyana. Go gun toting, bible clinging Palin, YOU ROCK!!!
It is a fine line, but the first rule of politics is to never let the other guy define the debate. The Bush people, unfortunately, believed that their actions would speak for themselves. But in politics, perception often becomes reality. If the other guy defines you, you must respond: silence equals consent in the political world.
he he…..he he……….he heh eh he heh he he he he!
Every time Sarah Palin opens her mouth, the GOP dies just a little bit more. I find it incredible that she's still the top choice amongst Republicans for the 2012 nod. Tone deaf much?
Listen Repubs, Sarah Palin is popular with the base…………………..and that's about it. And with good reason too! Her values are not shared with the majority of Americans. America is decidedly pro-choice and left of center. Going back to your "conservative core values" is only going to alienate you guys farther from mainstream America. You can fight it all you want. The GOP did not hold the executive branch all those years since the mid-sixties with right wing votes. You held it because you appealed to centrists. You want to know who does not like Sarah Palin? Centrists.
But hey, by all means, vote Palin in 2012. I intend to vote for her in the primary (open primary in my state! LOL!) and donate to her primary campaign. Palin getting the GOP nod in 2012 will be the end of the Republican Party as a relevant national political presence as we know it. Nothing would make me happier!
And the funny thing is, when and if that happens, the party of personal responsibility will blame it all on the media!
I absolutely, positively love her, and suggested her for McCain's veep candidate a full six months before she was selected at the political group blog I post at (Under a different name, so as to keep music and politics separate in my blog-posting life). Almost NOBODY knew who she was back then, and so I got a lot of, "Sarah Who?" reactions. So I was well and truly thrilled that she was eventually selected. Vindication feels good.
I expected the leftard media vapor-heads to savage Palin, but I was seriously taken aback by the patently immoral bias and spittle-slinging rage of it all. Especially compared with and contrasted to the passes and issues-swept-under-the-rug treatment afforded Obama. It was very, very far beyond merely ridiculous, it was evil.
She will have her day, trust me. Palin is on a mission from God, and thank God for it.
Newt will run next time. She might have a place in his cabinet.
Sarah Palin was superb delivering her Acceptance Speech at the Convention and in her Vice-Presidential Debate, is superb as Governor, and will be superb for many years to come as the Standard-Bearer of the Conservative Movement.
There's a great photo from the VP debate of Sarah ' winking at the world '.
I've got it on my wall, and it says it all.
Obama is the dead of winter…. then comes Sarah Springtime.
I'm taking bets.
You don't hear any mention of Caroline Kennedy anymore do you? She became a non-story once her fledgling bid for office didn't pan out.
Yet… you can still find mountains of vitriol hurled at Palin. Anything that can be spinned as a negative is trumpeted across the media.
Would they really give her that attention if they were not worried about her?
The way my governor (yes, MY governor… I'm darn proud of her and claim her every chance I get) handles these things is not much of a surprise to me. She has yet to do or say anything to show me she's not who she appears to be. Is she perfect? No. Do I agree with her 100% of the time? No. (Well… maybe about 97%) Do I trust her to hold up her hand and say "Yep, that one's on me" if she screws up? Yes. Do I trust her to do what she thinks is RIGHT over what is personally or politically advantageous? Hell, yes.
I haven't had a chance to watch Media Malpractice yet but I'm chomping at the bit.
Bush never learned. He was nice to Ted Kennedy, even invited him over for popcorn and a movie. Kenned berated him at every chance. He was nice to the press and Helen Thomas sexted him – a fate worse than death. I don't know if he thought that it would eventually turn and they'd see the error of their ways. But history shows that if you have an 'R' after your name, you're going to be run through the grinder. McCain was adored by the press when he was the "Maverick" against his party. When he ran as an 'R', they burned him at the stake. I'm so glad that Sarah sees these low-lifes for what they are – snakes. She'll talk to them, but she knows where they come from now. That'll come in handy next time around.
I love this. Y'know who's the only person who wants her to run more than y'all do? Barack Obama.
John…why do feel the need to denigrate GWB? You don't need to do that to promote Sarah, she can stand on her own accomplishments. I'm really tired of Conservatives or people who claim to be on the Conservative side feeling the need to slam our own. Whatever you want to say about GWB, I don't think he ever curled up in the fetal position over anything…I believe that he felt it was beneath the office and only raised his accusers and defamers to his level. As for Sarah, she's going to need our help if she has any dreams of President or VP. As a good man once said, it's going to be a long, hard slog.
Keep thinking that. You must be of the 20% that hates her, in Alaska? Seems like there's about 60 – 70% who feel otherwise up there.
Sarah Palin is a real American that this country can be proud of. Unlike folks like Rham Emanuel who stole from america while at Freddie Mac and has placed this country in debt while he gets a Chief of Staff job. Now that is “Media Malpractice”
I love Palin and agree she needs to spend her time setting the record straight. But, it is much different running for Vice President and being the President of the United States. I admired Bush because he didn't respond to the press drivel. It is unpresidential to respond to it. His mistake was not clarifying. I actually think Obama is much worse at clarifying than Bush was. Obama says a lot of words, but doesn't really say much.
She'd eat him alive in a debate. She ran hair-plugs through the grinder. Barack can't take his electric help to a debate.
Sarah Palin is Ronald Reagan. A self-made governor who we will need to sweep in and make it all okay again.
Reagan had a rough 1976, and came back in 80.
Sarah will be back in 2012 or 2016 or 2020 or 2024. She has my vote.
"I expected the leftard media vapor-heads to savage Palin"
then your suggestion wasn't much of a suggestion, now was it?
"I expected the leftard media vapor-heads to savage Palin"
then your suggestion wasn't much of a suggestion, now was it?
you said a mouthful there bob!
and where exactly are you getting those stats from?
Here's a yahoo news poll:
2-9-2009
Obama – 67%
Palin – 80%
I'll find more if you want. Probably isn't much different.
Yo, Hillbilly Child –
Why so many words to tell us that you are scared sh*tless of Sarah?
Because liberals live by lies.
And Sarah is HONEST to GOD!
It must be miserable for you having to cower in the shadows, using a "Wasilla" pseudonym and all.
Admit it, YOU LOVE SARAH !
Ha! Minds are being melted by Sarah's smile! I LOVE AMERICA!
Dittos on MM, was great, worth the wait to receive from order date. John built his case with documentation and fact, and the nearly two hours flew by for both my bride and me. In fact, Nicole wanted to get the DVD based on John's knock 'em dead appearance on The View.
Me, the uncut interview with Gov. Palin alone was worth the price of the DVD. Thanks, John. Cheers to all.
Swampolitics has her at a paultry 68% in Alaska.
I like Ms. Palin's views on a lot of issues and wish she had been better prepared for the last election. McCain's constant 'she's a maverick' got old fast and her handlers didn't do a very good job (IMHO) of preparing her for the press blizzard that ensued. Any Republican running for President has only a few sound bites a day in the national press to get their points across and I think this is one area where Ms. Palin did OK – she had a few talking points and hammered away at them. Repetition is the key — unfortunately for the Republicans, McCain was all over the place and his manner of speaking ('my friends….') was a real turn off. Aside from the fact that he's a giant RINO (I know – I live in AZ) there wasn't really much for the press to like about him, once they had a real Democrat candidate.
Hopefully Ms. Palin will play the primary game in 2011. I don't know who else will be running, so I can't say for sure that I'll vote for her, but she's pretty OK in my book and if I do vote for someone else, they will be one fantastic conservative candidate.
This doesn't sell. Palin didn't fight back at all. She was only slightly more pugnacious than Bush, which is like saying styrofoam is slightly more solid than marshmallows. Her missed opportunities for "fighting back" amount to a sad litany. Actually what is sad is to think that we are looking at her responses as some kind of standard of resolute rebuttal.
That just confirms again how really naive he is.
that was in alaska. nationally? not so much.
I wish I could put up the side-by-side pictures of her on a Harley and our manly metro-sexual President on a Schwinn with his little helmet on. The image of today's liberal Democrat!
again, in alaska. alaska hardly represents mainstream america.
Newt had better not run at any time. Does he think the American people have forgotten his affair with an intern at the same time as Clinton? I can't stand the guy and every time he comes on the TV I mute it.
As a VP, you're an employee of your boss, the overly friendly, John McCain. I don't know what you saw, but since she's been free of the reigns, she's shot back with both barrells. She hasn't just given panty-waste rebuttals by inferring past run-ins, she's called people out, by name!
It was not only GWB, but the rest of the Republicans as well who never fought back, and not just against the media, but the Democrats (aka, the "left"). It made me sad. The only way to stop a bully is to fight back, and they never did.
He was basically correct, at least as far as he personally was concerned. The president really shouldn't be mixing it up with the media that way. On the other hand, his staff should have been out there pounding the press on a daily (hourly, minutely?) basis. Some, but not all of it was GWB's fault. There is so much on a president's agenda, especially on GWB's, that he can't worry about picking fights with pinhead media types. Others needed to do that and they didn't step up to defend their president.
I don't know if you're up on current events, she's the Governor of Alaska. Right now that's where her numbers count. And I'll bet she's looked upon better than you and people like you are led to believe. When Obama's numbers come down (and they are – they're lower than W's at this time), we'll see more hits against her by the propaganda arm of the Democratic party. What am I saying, we already are. So she mustn't be a threat, right?
I totally agree. Sometimes, I have to wonder if there are planted saboteurs at high levels of the Republican party. If Bush would have explained some things, pushed back when lies were being told, and generally wasn't so 'decent' things may have been different for him. It seems the right all too often is not willing to get into the trenches with the left – and they forget – there is an idealogical war going on – and with more than just Islamic fanatics.
Thanks, John!
Exactly, and that's why they went after her in such a nasty manner during the campaign. She appealed to average folks and had a great story of personal determination and success as a citizen politican. Just imagine the outrage if Republicans had gone after a similar Dem with even half the gusto. With Palin the media not only gave the Dems a pass, but participated in the attacks–and it's going to continue. Palin is up for reelection in 2010 (or may make a Senate run) and will be a big target for the Dems. What's ironic is that as much as the Dems hate Palin they will use her as much as possible in their fundraising appeals.
I want Palin/Jindal or I'd be equally happy with Jindal/Palin. Either way, as badly as we're getting burned now, we should hopefully be set up for 16 solid years of conservative leadership. We'll need it to get this financial mess straightened out and our budget back in order. Both these two look t be able to do that. I've been watching. The big test will be whether or not we can get a Congress that follows the same plan without going haywire again, and that means we the people have to stay strong.
She's on a no win situation with the left and their allys, the MSM.
If she doesn't say anything, she's hiding. If she does, she's whining.
Whatever . Reagan ran and won twice with the press on his ass.
Go Sarah!!
I may be wrong, of course, but what I think you saw was the McCain campaign attempting to throttle her back once they found her too much of an independent spirit. She was silent for awhile and I firmly believe that her camp was ordered to do so. By the time she started to fire back, the media has done it's deeds and the fix was almost complete.
Palin successfully turned her town of less than 7,000 people into the meth capital of Alaska. She also stole (on a small scale) quite a bit of per diem money from the state. Her successionist hubby has some quesitonable friends. Palin couldn't articulate what NEWSPAPERS she reads. She's against abortion or sex education yet wanted to force her daughter into an arranged marriage, to look "presentable" in case McCain won the 2008 election. No wonder Romney and Huckabee are discussed as 2012 frontrunners and not this dangerous crook.
I know. But what can you do when your boss says shut your mouth? You could see her trying to fight though even though she was throttled.
Yeah , if you like the taste of BS
Not only that but she destroys their "feminist" construct. Their heads explode when a strong, political woman is not a member of their victim class. If she was a liberal, they would have been all over her for VP. McCain did next to nothing to support her, BTW. His military and POW status notwithstanding, I have nothing but utter contempt for John McCain.
I would have to reply, Prego daughter Abuse of power Family vacations on the state dime. An affair is a presidential tradition. She is showing a pattern public hypocrisy. She would make a better Dem candidate. Newt is the only person that can even compete with Obama. He knows what he's talking about.
John, I just rec’d my Media Malpractice in the mail and I can’t wait to watch it.
I always wondered if the President wasn’t fighting back, or if he did and we never saw it. Maybe he made some strong and passionate speeches pressing his issues, and defending attacks against him, but we would never know. Or maybe stopping terrorism was all consuming, which would be reasonable to believe. Maybe when you’ve faced something like September 11th, priorities are so dramatically altered, that the BS of the media is the least relevant thing on your plate. Or maybe he was being a gentleman. Or maybe he wimped out.
Being from the New Orleans area, after Katrina, I am fully aware of the ability of the media to twist and color issues.
Having evacuated, it took me a week of being glued to the television and completely confused as to why “no one was rescuing anyone,” “no one would bring anyone any water”, “everyone in the Superdome were thugs and rapists.” When I finally understood what was actually going on, I almost vomit. They were actually using this horrible disaster, our horrible disaster, to continue to destroy a presidency and an administration.
I knew from many past experiences with hurricanes that people were being rescued, and that if people didn’t have water it was because there has just been a GIANT HURRICANE and FLOOD that no one could have been prepared for, (NO ONE could have been prepared for) and that the people in the Superdome were the people of New Orleans, and that there may have been some criminals in the bunch, but the majority of the people were good people and probably helpful to each other and sticking together until they were bused away. And they were. When I later spoke to a friend who was in the Superdome, I learned the truth, and it was as I had imagined it to be. There were thugs, and mentally ill folks without their meds, he said, but the vast majority of people were careful and caring of each other and handling the situation well.
I learned a lot from Katrina, but the biggest thing I learned was that some in the media and some in Hollywood, are evil, despicable people. It was a hard lesson to learn and I am still devastated over it. We can recover from a hurricane, but to recover from the damage the media did to the city and the people of New Orleans and the surrounding areas, is very difficult.
From announcing to people that they should not come back because of “toxic flood waters” to creating a pressure on local law enforcement which caused them to stop us from coming back to our homes, to stirring damaging rumors which added to the mental breakdowns that people were having during that time. Had the media not played their dirty, ugly tricks, there would have probably been scores of less suicides in this area. And repeating over and over again that the City of New Orleans should just be bulldozed was sick, and REALLY hurt many people.
Had people been able to get back into the city sooner, there would have been a LOT less looting, and a lot more recovery.
And on a good and sweet note, till today there are hundreds and hundreds of volunteers who keep coming and coming to the city to help rebuild homes. It is absolutely amazing and the kindest thing you’ve ever seen. People can be truly great. I like those people. The media doesn’t like to do too many stories on that though.
I find the media an extremely powerful and mostly evil force that is damaging a culture that many have worked thousands of years to create. The USA as the shining city on the hill wasn’t perfect… but it was evolving. As a Libertarian (hawkish), I saw that we were taking some steps backwards regarding privacy and various prohibitions, but if we worked hard we could steer back in the right direction, but now, with this administration and this media… it feels as though we are doomed. We’re not of course, but it sure feels like it.
Recovering from the upcoming Socialistic damage will be as difficult as it is recovering from Katrina, and that is VERY difficult. If there is a way to halt the storm before the flooding starts… it will be worth the trouble.
Sorry to be so long-winded… I have lots of pent-up emotions about all of this. A rant does feel good.
Thanks for what you are doing John.
I don't think they had anything to fight back with. What other explanation could there be. Even most libs think the press is full of it. Fighting back was a win win. No wonder we lost the election.
Well thank you for that.
Now let's turn the page and look at all the fine work of Barack Obama.
Go ahead,"Jeff". Tell us how Obama miraculously came out of Chicago without being touched by ANY of the corruption that infests that city.
How are the schools doing in Chicago?
How about the murder rate?
Nice community organizing.
LMAO…. "THAT WAS IN AK…NOT SO MUCH" Of course not idiot…she is not seen on TV every min. like OB…here polls have stayed steady…while his polls have dropped like a rock in the past 2 months….ck. out the Rasmussen Polls…the most accurate polls during the election….OB..on 1/21/09 65%….two months later 3/22/09 he is at 56%….disapproval…way up also….
I agree totally. Camille Paglia and some of the NOW sisters were on board with her. Camille voted for Obama, but loved Sarah and thought she was what a feminist should be. So as far as an endorsement from a liberal lesbian, that's pretty good. I'm glad Sarah is a conservative. It drives the Democrat establishment crazy. Look at the kool-aid drinking lefties and their conspiracy theories that are posting here. More of the "Sarah's a book burner" crowd.
Hey pig vomit, didn't I tell you to go feed your goat? …and stop picking your ass and smelling your finger, please have some dignity.
They had plenty to fight back with…but McC wouldn't let her…like all the stuff on Rev. W….or demanding copies of his birth certificate, etc.
—- You want to know who does not like Sarah Palin? Centrists.—
Eu contraire, my misguided little libbie, I know a great many centrists. I am a centrist. We loved her. Your definition of the political Right and Center is badly skewed.
Let's see, she was cleared on the abuse of power? I think she can more than hold her own against Obama. The prego daughter? She handled it as well as anyone could…Like a mother.
Good for you, Hucbald. I had heard her name blogged around that time but, knew nothing about her. Maybe it was yours………….
The part about Sarah that I like most is that she raises the ire of the worthless left. A self made person is like garlic to a vampire for welfare scum. If you’re not a worthless victim then you must be destroyed. Taking advice from well meaning liberal nit-wits would be foolish. Their love of the Magnificent “O” knows no bounds you must always remember their knee pads are at the ready for their blind service the “One.” I do believe they become so vicious because of a secret man love of “Himself.” That being said I believe that Sarah Palin is a remarkable, successful, self made person, and subsequently a worthless liberal night mare, get’em Sarah!
Hillbilly – You evidently live there? Are you a low life, non mainstream American?
Sorry, dp…..I would almost rather see McCain again………*groan*
Kevin, full disclouse requires honesty. Bush, for all his good qualities, had some glaring faults. In context you have to list those things to show how Ms. Palin stands apart. Bush was stand-up guy who for whatever reason just didn't stand up for himself, as he should have. He was a terrible judge of character. I hated Rumsfeld, Bremer,…… et al. They almost sunk us in Iraq. Rumsfeld and Bremer wanted to garrison Iraq with three cooks, two mechanics and a typist. Oh yeah, and call them all "Special Forces". Friggin joke! Thank God, a warrior finally came along.
I really want Jindal to stay here in Louisiana. It will take him two terms to straighten out this state.
Jeffy, Jeffy, Jeffy… blogs are NOT news sources. SHE caused a meth problem? I think we know who here is on drugs. Questionable friends? BO's pals are like, to go all geek with a Star Wars reference, like the cast of characters from Mos Eisley… that famously wretched hive of scum and villainy. Abortion/sex ed… get some facts. You're like the buffoons running around saying her daughter got pregnant because she had abstinence only sex education… which is not true.
Bring facts, not regurgitated lefty blog BS and I'll listen to anything you have to say. Until then you're just another idiot hater. I can't stand what Darth Obama is trying to do to this country but I refuse to sling the kind of nonsense about him you do about Palin. Anything I say about him is based in fact, not what some guy said to some guy who writes a blog in his mom's basement.
To all of you who do not live in New Orleans:
What this lady is saying is right on target. This may appear to be long-winded to you, but she has barely scratched the surface of what the news media has done, in its effort to disparage President Bush, to make Katrina worse than it needed to be. Had more reporting been like the March 2006 issue of Popular Mechanics, I suspect that there would have been a lot more votes for McCain (against Obama????) in November.
I agree. I never ever could figure out why he rolled over and took it up the rear by the MSM the way he did. Reagan never did that, he always pushed back, went directly to the public, and always won! Bush OTOH was a pansy when it came to confronting the MSM and getting his message out.
I like Gov. Plain so much, that if it weren't for my hatred of cold weather, I'd leave Texas for Alaska in a heartbeat. LOL!
"Rumsfeld and Bremer wanted to garrison Iraq with three cooks, two mechanics and a typist."
OK, that's one of the top ten funniest sentences I've ever read in a blog thread. And, it reminds me of something my dad – retired military officer – might have said.
Indeed. I worked in NO pre-K on a couple of occasions for months at a stretch, and the casual political corruption in LA is breathtaking to an outsider, but all the locals just brush it of with, "That's Louisiana politics." Love the food though! ;^)
How about Palin/Malkin? I know several leftists who would vapor-lock and stroke out over that ticket. LOL!
gee…you presented the troll with unassailable numbers & suddenly he's walked away…it sounds like a strategy we need to push in elections from now on. Stop letting the socialist media lie about our candidates. We have a bullhorn too, & it's time the world heard from us.
I believe that President Bush was employing the "Tarbaby Offense" for the first six years of his presidency. As you may recall from the story, B'rer Rabbit is snared by the tarbaby by his own attacks on it. Bush reacted to attacks against him by ignoring them and doing his job. For four years it was an effective strategy.
From 2000 through the 2004 election, I firmly believed that the vituperation flung at GWB hurt the Dems who flung it more than it hurt Bush. The election of 2002 was an unprecedented triumph for Bush. The party in power gaining seats in an off-year election had never happened before. The trend continued in 2004, with another nearly-unprecedented gain in GOP seats in both houses.
2006 was another story. Blame the war; blame focus on the legal troubles of house Republicans; blame the "moderates" who sought to distance themselves from Bush; blame Katrina blame Bush himself. The reality is that if the media throws enough mud, eventually it will stick.
It is too easy in retrospect to blame Bush for the failures of the Republican Party. Yes, he should have used the veto in his first term to oppose spending increases, and been more adamant about reigning in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. His generous overtures to Democrats were pearls before swine. But he was the Man in the Arena fighting the good fight against Islamic terrorism, and he kept us safe.
Sarah Palin excites me because of her inspiring, walk-the-talk example, her fiery courage, and back-atcha starch. She may well be up to the task of playing cat wrangler to bring wayward Republicans back into forward momentum. I'd love a Palin/Jindal ticket; or even a Jindal /Palin one.
Good one Marine! A hearty OORAH to you!
I hear you argument but we're talking now about human dignity and the sovereignty of the individual against attack, and the grace and strength needed to resist or respond to this affront even while caught in the terrible pincer of a hateful enemy (the Left) and the contraints of a clueless and complaisant boss (McCain), where I agree Palin was caught. There were many opportunities for Palin to show these qualities, in my opinion, and none involved lashing out or otherwise violating any but the most demeaning limitations placed on her by her "boss" (which, if they had been placed on her, she should have violated anyway). I am waiting for the politician who can see his or her higher duty in this terrible and debased political environment we are in; Palin could have, but didn't. I like her, and I will support her, but she blew it.
Yeah, but the average American was smarter then. Today's youth……….well you get the picture.
If Sarah does decide to run in 2012, she's almost a sure-bet shoo-in for the Republican nomination. Don't believe me?Just wait until the SarahPac totals are announced. Ever read any of the dozen or so "All Sarah 24/7" blogs out there? Her supporters are numerous, devoted, and not afraid to call out any organization/person who mouth/write lies/innuendo about her. Keep it up all you MSNBC, Rino columnists, CNN, et. We open the wallets to SarahPac everytime you open your mouths.
She will crush any Bush/Rove-funded candidate in the primaries. She will crush any multimillionaire candidate with the radical church used to knocking on doors and the bottomless trustfund from Daddy for juicing the coiffers.
America will "go frontier" in 2012. I don't think she is afraid of anyone. We have her back and she knows it.
YES SARAH!! She is our pitbull with lipstick. Down with the pussycat republicans!
I tend to agree with you. Wasn't it Clinton that started the whole "rapid response" thing where he didn't have to say much but his attack dogs were in the media every day. I think GW's attack dogs were mostly yorkies.
Exactly. WHERE is the public outrage from his take of hundreds of thousands of $$ from AIG? Also, when are the DEMS, including OBAMA, going to return the campaign contributions they accepted from AIG? Hmmmmm?
Newt sat on a couch with Nancy Pelosi and bought into the 20th most pressing issue in America, that thing called Anthropomorphic Global Warming. Newt has lost all credibility, and if he runs, I will vote against him.
Sorry. Newt just needs to go back to doing grassroots stuff.
Which part of Hill or Billy has your heart? You're not fooling anyone. Your Center Left comment speaks volumes. Remember in '02 conservatives were celebrating the Death of the Democratic Party? We got giddy and paid dearly. I for one am glad there are no front runners for taking the mantle. I don't think any woman will have a chance in '12. Obama was invisible in '02. It took time money and effort but your side did it. We will do the same with the advantage of a stronger candidate tested, vetted, and tempered by the fire breathing left of center MSM.
Sarah Palin reminds me of what Lincoln said of Ulysses S. Grant:
"I can't spare this man. He fights!"
I absolutely agree 100%. Look how much they still love Bill Clinton and he slams interviewers all the time. I think they believed Bush weak on his views because he didn't respond.
Sometimes it seems our Republican representatives can only grow a spine when they're out of power. For example, I remember Trent Lott often going on TV talking tough only to capitulate to the Dems later. It made me crazy.
Thank you ConnieZ.
At some time in the future justice will have to be rendered for the media malpractice of the coverage of Katrina. Due to media hysteria–reporting that rescuers were being shot at, that gunfights and gang-rapes were rampant at the Superdome–reporters intent upon tarring President Bush were themselves responsible for the deaths of individuals who might have been rescued, except that due to the lurid reports, potential rescuers were barred from entering "dangerous" areas.
There was no mention in the media about the lack of preparations of the City and State officials, of how Governor Blanco had prevented the Red Cross from depositing food and water in the Superdome because she didn't plan on the bridges washing out. No mention that a large percentage of the New Orleans Police Department went "missing" because they'd only existed on paper to collect federal subsidies.
So much for the MSM screaming about Sarah not having the "experience" to be president. Are you fucking kidding me? Obama is a deer caught in the proverbial headlights. He is utterly lost. The "man" has no idea what the hell he's doing…….And now we're just royally shanked….
I'll trade you one Arnold for one Sarah!
I try not to attack on a personal level, especially someone in ill health. But, to me Ted Kennedy, is undeserving of his brothers' legacy (however mixed it may be). The incident you mention was the height of classlessness (the hight of low class sounded even worse).
Agreed, Dave S. Palin wasn't quite ready for prime time when McCain picked her to be VP. No fault of Palin's, but her lack of experience in foreign policy (understandable for a Governor) and in dealing with the national media made it easier for the MSM to tear her apart, aided by lies and innuendo.
My feeling during the campaign was that Pailn would have done well, as far as her own career went, to get a little more "seasoning" before entering the national arena. The 2008 campaign seems to have done that. As of now, I'm split between her and Romney for 2012.
