When In Doubt, Blame Bush
by Seth SwirskyPresident Obama’s first 30 some-odd days have not been something to write home about. Of course, he did inherit a financial crisis, but he’s clearly made it worse with his Jimmy Carteresque doom-and-gloom talk.
His poorly-vetted cabinet picks have been a mess and his foreign policy is so muddled that no one knows who the power is behind the throne – in the Middle East, is it George Mitchell? John Kerry? Hillary Clinton? Barack Obama?
A whirlwind of “czars” and and “summits” — does this administration resemble the Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight, or what? When in doubt, what does the clearly in-over-his-head Obama, along with his media acolytes do? Change the subject to “George W. Bush” of course.
Just today, Vermont Senator, Pat Leahy took his Bush “Truth Commission” to the floor of the Senate. Said the senior senator: “How can we restore our moral leadership and ensure transparent government if we ignore what has happened?”
If Leahy is concerned about “transparency” and “moral leadership,” perhaps he should start by investigating the Democrat House Ways and Means Committee Chairman, Charles Rangel and his serial non-payment of taxes, or Democrat William Jefferson’s $90,000 in cold (sorry) cash hidden in his freezer, or Democrat Senator Roland Burris’s admission that he was playing Let’s Make A Deal with ousted Democrat Governor Rod Blagojevich.
Leahy could not have been too concerned with “transparency” or “moral leadership” when he voted to confirm the admitted tax cheat Tim Geithner to be the Secretary of the Treasury.
Last week, Keith Olbermann ripped George Bush for saying that the Republican Florida Governor, Charlie Crist, was a “D-Lite” (meaning “Democrat”-lite) for supporting President Obama’s “stimulus” package. What Olbermann didn’t tell his audience is that it was George P. Bush (son of former Governor Jeb Bush) – not George W. Bush – who made those remarks.
Disingenuous to the core, Olbermann didn’t care as long as he could deflect attention away from the thus-far scarily-inept presidency of the man he and MSNBC were full partners in electing.
In his opening remarks at the economic summit on Monday, President Obama classlessly got in on the act when he accused President Bush of “casual dishonesty.” (This was before the head of his National Economic Council, Larry Summers, casually fell asleep).
Beware when leftists fail. That is when their truest emotion — anger — comes to the fore. It’s why we will likely see a Truth Commission, a Fairness Doctrine, higher taxes on the hated rich, caps on executive bonuses, any and all of it to give themselves meaning after it becomes abundantly clear that their savior is just a 47-year old man without much experience.

Amen and well said. Community rabblerouser, er, organizer is not what you would call resume' material. Anyone who isn't too busy planting his tongue in the Sainted One's derriere (Chris Matthews anyone?) can plainly see that Nobama in in way over his head. Gang that couldn't shoot straight indeed.
They have to use deflection "Blame George W. Bush", the more people find out about how much corruption is being hidden the worse it could be the next election. I can't even remember the count on issues that President Pelosi/Reid, sorry I meant President Obama has had to put the fire out on.
I'm all for the "truth commission," especially if it will keep them too busy to pass any more "stimuli" and "bailouts."
And I was only kidding on the slip. Pelosi and Reid come across as if they believe that they are the President of United States…scary!
Too true… someone asked me, before the election, if I thought Sarah Palin was qualified. After stating that she wasn't running for president, John McCain was, I said that she was more qualified than Obama.
Gasp!
On a different note… why does this site log me out when I go to another story/the home page/etc?
This administration is shaping up to be one of the most disingenuous on record. We seem to have elected a markerter and advertiser cum old tyme preacher for president. Not only is the verbal spin a skid mark on the truth, what Mr. Obama and his administration do in secret and only later hint at is even more discomforting.
Wow, I miss him already. What a steady, honorable, brave man he is, and was. What a terrible eight years it would have been without his intelligent integrity. God bless him. God help us all, now.
Media honesty? Perish the thought.
Where is the commission like 9/11 to review how we got into this financial mess?
Oh that is right that means Chris Dodd, Chuck Shumer, Barney Frank and all their cronies from Freddie and Fannie might have to testifry under oath about what they knew, when they knew and why did they allow this morass to occur.
Honestly, I do miss Bush's grace under pressure, especially now that I can clearly see the contrast.
Keep in mind though, he is from Chicago, and that spells corruption with a capital C. Personally, I'd be disappointed if he didn't bring an impressive portfolio of corruption to the office. Otherwise, I'd be afraid we'd elected a lightweight.
I love what Dennis Miller said about Bush. Here was a man willing to be hated and villified for 8 years to do what he thought would protect Americans and follow his beliefs. Nobama is a robot set on "Power" and would throw us all to the wolves if his approval starts to slip…so true that when liberals get criticized, they turn mean and angry.
Obama Gantry perhaps?
Barring mass murderers like Stalin and Hitler, you will not find a figure whom conservatives hate with such a passion as the left hates Bush. The level of vitriol on the left vs. that of the right here in the US just doesn't compare.
Pres. Obama didn't "inherit" anything. He actively campaigned to take it on. Seems to me that he ASKED for it and it was given to him. When I check Merriam-Webster.com for inherit I don't see how asking for a thing fits in its definition anywhere.
We need clarity on language. Stop saying that Obama "inherited" this economy. He said he wanted it, the idiot American public gave it to him. Now its his. And as far as I can see all he wants to do is drive the American economy over a cliff.
I think BO figures that if he breaks it, then he can remake it in the image he prefers without that inconvenient Constitution thingy getting in the way. I still maintain that only reason he studied Constitutional Law was so he knew precisely how to destroy it when he got the chance.
Very nicely put. Not only did he not inherit it, he was part of the Congress that passed the bills that caused it. Oh wait, I forgot, he was only there for about 140 days. I guess if he had been there, he would have voted against it.
Thank you, Daniel! I've been screaming the same thing at the TV every time I hear him say that. He was so anxious to "inherit" whatever condition the country was going to be in, in January 09, that he started two years prior. WE the public are the ones inheriting the mess that he continues to worsen each day.
Richard Nixon – ranks up there. The Move-On crowd tends to be more of a Hang-On crowd in many respects. I'm sure we'll have a 35 Anniversary of his resignation this year, but I don't remember the media marking the 10th Anniversary of the Sink Emperor's impeachment on 12/19/2008, hmmm.
i know crazy! i cant believe its been a 100 days since january 20. Wow where has the time gone!
Leahy isn't much different from Joe 'the Gasbag' Biden; this is posturing to please a rabid left wing base…I seriously doubt he has a passion for this- they'll convene a dopey commission to meet and bloviate, and yes, the Keith (anyone notice his growing similarity to Groucho Marx?) Olbermanns of the world will shriek with delight… but Leahy knows this path is fraught with danger. Can you spell wicked backlash, anyone?
But they're "Progressives".
They want to *progress* us over a cliff.
You mean they aren't..oh, I thought we had a Tri-Prez-fecta!
snake oil salesman…
One thing we will all have to get used to is liberals griping about Bush for the next few years. Why? Because the core value and motivation of modern American liberals is to always oppose something.
They are kind of like that relative or co-worker who is addicted to griping. There will be nothing in their lifetime that they enjoy griping about more than Bush. It's an addiction. And it's up to us to make fun of them for it. Make fun of them more than they make fun of Christians. Even tell them, "You're acting like an evangelistic Christian." It will drive them nuts.
That's a good point.
Even overtly offensive and insulting talking heads like Bill Maher and Keith Bitterman are not nearly as reviled by the right as Bush is by the left. Michael Moore doesn't even come close.
Now, over 7 years later, even Osama Bin Laden isn't actively hated by the right.
I put most of this up to the fact that most people on the right are more concerned with their immediate lives (family, job, friends, local sports team, what treats are on the DVR) to maintain a long-term high-effort hate for a person they've never met.
Very soon I believe that the bulk of the country will realize what Washington D.C. already knows, Obama was all about WINNING the election, NOT being the president.
Now that he is in the office and has the job (his first real job, mind you) this cardboard cut-out Hollywood promo poster of a politician is obviously over his head.
And, much like Steve Spurrier's short stint as head coach of the Redskins, Obama is finding out that the empty rhetoric and backdoor deals worked great in Chicago won't cut it on "the big stage."
…and WE get the bill for his 4 year educational internship in the White House.
Not to mention that Obama is RUINING the chances of any truly qualified African-American presidential candidates that wanted to make a run in the near future.
Sorry Mr. Ludacris.
The Big Moca had no qualifications to be President. God help us all.
KO is almost worth hating. But as a Conservative/ibertartian, I can not hate, only pity. When will they wheel this twerp to the asylum?
True. Whether it was the Clinton people trashing the White House on their way out, or the Obamalites booing Laura Bush at the Obama inauguration, or the overtly racially offensive prayer at the inauguration, there has been a loss of reverence for the office of the president by the Left. And, as the ascension of Obama has shown, the Left firmly holds to the celebrity moxie of the person in that office more than the presidency itself.
Say what you want about GW Bush, but he did his best to treat the office of the president with the respect and dignity it deserves. Maybe to a fault — I think he should have gone after his critics with more gusto while in office, but I think he held up because, in his mind, it was the more dignified thing to do.
Well said, Bonnie! Bush may have been less into suave communication, but you knew when he spoke that he was telling the truth. He didn't have the long, thoughtful pauses that look suspiciously like the speaker (ahem) is searching for the thing that needs to be said. But he was a stolid man of action.
The only problem is it won't keep them too busy to do more damage because that's their goal: To change everything. If they do put forward the truth commission, hopefully Republicans can drag Bawney Fwank and Chris Dod and all the other scandals into the mix because they were at the root of the problem.
"And, much like Steve Spurrier's short stint as head coach of the Redskins……"
Thanks for reminding me. Sheesh.
I did not realize that Olbermann had an actual audience.
I just assumed that he was some television exec's deranged nephew who was allowed to use the television cameras to tape himself ranting in order to help his parents save money on anti-psychotic pharmaceuticals.
Doom-Prophet-in-Chief……………the seer of calamity……………and purveyer of crisis,
has most of you idiots, who voted for him, eating out of your feed-bag.
Just as you should be.
There will be no dissent………………….you'll walk hand in hand down the aisle of damnation.
Buckle up kids………………………your in for the ride of your lives.
And if there's a bump in the road………..it's double-U's fault.
Blaming Bush was pretty much standard policy for democrats for the last 8 yrs.
They provided no real plans or alternatives to issues like Iraq and Social Security, just obstruction, obstruction, obstruction and more obstruction.
When that did not work,Conspiracy theories and bogus accusations based on cut-and -paste cherry picked information were used to undermine Bush and his policies.
The facts on the ground and successful results of the Bush administration show just how ignorant and partisan these attacks were.
Obama' s administration will vindicated Bush.
One way is the adaptation of Bush's successful policies in the War on Terror.
These same policies that liberals marched in the streets decrying as war crimes are now okay with Obama instituted them:
CIA Signals Continuity With Bush Era
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB12356061211837688...
By SIOBHAN GORMAN
WASHINGTON — The Central Intelligence Agency's new director outlined spy policies Wednesday, including an aggressive campaign in Pakistan, that underscored considerable continuity with the Bush administration.
One of the biggest propaganda campaigns by liberals was that Bush lied and manipulated pre-war intelligence concerning Iraq.
The 9/11 commission report,2004 Senate intelligence report,Butler report,Duelfer report, and the 2008 Senate intelligence report (chaired by a majority of democrats) all came to the same conclusions:
BUSH DID NOT LIE:
WaPo: Bush “substantiated by intelligence” – UPDATED
http://theanchoressonline.com/2008/06/09/wapo-bus...
What a long, strange trip it’s been, and here, some years later, we finally get someone in the press to tell it straight: Bush did not lie.
On Iraq’s nuclear weapons program? The president’s statements “were generally substantiated by intelligence community estimates.”
On biological weapons, production capability and those infamous mobile laboratories? The president’s statements “were substantiated by intelligence information.”
On chemical weapons, then? “Substantiated by intelligence information.”
On weapons of mass destruction overall (a separate section of the intelligence committee report)? “Generally substantiated by intelligence information.” Delivery vehicles such as ballistic missiles? “Generally substantiated by available intelligence.” Unmanned aerial vehicles that could be used to deliver WMDs? “Generally substantiated by intelligence information.”
As you read through the report, you begin to think maybe you’ve mistakenly picked up the minority dissent. But, no, this is the Rockefeller indictment. So, you think, the smoking gun must appear in the section on Bush’s claims about Saddam Hussein’s alleged ties to terrorism.
But statements regarding Iraq’s support for terrorist groups other than al-Qaeda “were substantiated by intelligence information.” Statements that Iraq provided safe haven for Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and other terrorists with ties to al-Qaeda “were substantiated by the intelligence assessments,” and statements regarding Iraq’s contacts with al-Qaeda “were substantiated by intelligence information.”
Bush was successful in many areas such as fighting Malaria,Aids,Tax Cuts, keeping America safe, freeing over 50 million people, terrorism down over 40% world wide to name a few.
Bush was also successful in decimating one of Freedoms most brutal enemies :
U.S. Officials: Al-Qaida Leadership Cadre 'Decimated'
by Tom Gjelten
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?stor...
Ethan Miller
CIA-directed airstrikes against al-Qaida leaders and facilities in Pakistan over the past six to nine months have been so successful, according to senior U.S. officials, that it is now possible to foresee a "complete al-Qaida defeat" in the mountainous region along the border with Afghanistan.
"The enemy is really, really struggling," says one senior U.S. counterterrorism official. "These attacks have produced the broadest, deepest and most rapid reduction in al-Qaida senior leadership that we've seen in several years."
democrats found it easy to whine and point fingers from the sidelines for the last 8 years.
Now that they are in the drivers seat,it is proving much more difficult to proclaim the mantle of being "the smart ones".
Obama's bungling start with corrupt appointees dropping like flies, the market tanking every time he lays out his socialist economic plans that will gut this country combined with the corruption of the democratic party being exposed on a daily basis (Rangel,Jefferson,Dodd,Barney Frank,Murtha,Richardson,Blago,Daschle) leaves the democrats reduced to whining about Bush to distract from their incompetence.
As Americans see Obama's face on television everyday, their ability to lay blame at Bush's feet diminishes.
democrats have been telling everybody how smart they are for the last 8 years,it is time democrats backed their rhetoric up.This first month of the Obama circus certainly doesn't inspire much confidence and credibility to the democrats claims of moral and intellectual superiority.
With apologies to the estate of George Orwell:
"The next moment a hideous, grinding speech, as of some monstrous machine
running without oil, burst from the big telescreen at the end of the room.
It was a noise that set one's teeth on edge and bristled the hair at the
back of one's neck. The Hate had started."
"… As usual, the face of Emmanuel Goldstein, the Enemy of the People, had
flashed on to the screen. There were hisses here and there among the
audience. The little sandy-haired woman gave a squeak of mingled fear and
disgust. Goldstein was the renegade and backslider who once, long ago
(how long ago, nobody quite remembered), had been one of the leading
figures of the Party, almost on a level with Big Brother himself, and
then had engaged in counter-revolutionary activities, had been condemned
to death, and had mysteriously escaped and disappeared."
Part 2:
"… Goldstein was delivering his usual venomous attack
upon the doctrines of the Party–an attack so exaggerated and perverse that
a child should have been able to see through it, and yet just plausible
enough to fill one with an alarmed feeling that other people, less
level-headed than oneself, might be taken in by it. He was abusing Big
Brother, he was denouncing the dictatorship of the Party, he was demanding
the immediate conclusion of peace with Eurasia, he was advocating freedom
of speech, freedom of the Press, freedom of assembly, freedom of thought,
he was crying hysterically that the revolution had been betrayed–and all
this in rapid polysyllabic speech which was a sort of parody of the
habitual style of the orators of the Party, and even contained Newspeak
words: more Newspeak words, indeed, than any Party member would normally
use in real life."
And one other thing:
Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama are the first presidents in our modern history to break a very well respected and time honored tradition of refraining from criticizing past or current administrations. Just like every self-righteous liberal that feels empowered by their own moral superiority, they placed themselves above this tradition. Dismissing the traditions of the office indicates a sub par respect for it. Kinda of like receiving oral sex in the oval office while conducting Executive Branch business.
I guarantee you that George Bush has no interest in kicking Obama while he's down, even though Obama's mistakes would place a favorable frame of reference around Bush's decisions. I guarantee that Bush is more interested in helping Obama in any way he can, even while Barry is throwing cheap jabs.
I hope these lessons teach the next generation to place less value on sound bites, drive-by media, and political marketing, because this generation is already on the bus to Jonestown.
He does get so angry he starts to spit. I hate when people spit while talking.
This is the kind of Truth Commission the Dems DO NOT want.
All this and free healhcare too! A chicken in every pot!
All we hear coming out of this Obamanation is "we blame Bush" for everything!!! When we were attacked on September 11th it would have been so easy for GW to blame the Clinton administration due to all the ignored attacks whick occured on his watch. However, President Bush is/was to much of a gentleman to stoop so low. He took the bull by the horns and went forward. Something I'm afraid we'll NEVER see from BHO and his crooked staff!
I miss his smile, his genuine concern for his country and that southern drawl!!
…perhaps he should start by investigating the Democrat House Ways and Means Committee Chairman, Charles Rangel and his serial non-payment of taxes, or Democrat William Jefferson’s $90,000 in cold (sorry) cash hidden in his freezer, or Democrat Senator Roland Burris’s admission that he was playing Let’s Make A Deal with ousted Democrat Governor Rod Blagojevich."
To Big Hollywood, this is irrevocably incriminating. To the rest of humanity, it’s whining.
Rengel is under investigation.
William Jefferson’s trial starts on May 26.
General Assembly may consider removing Sen. Burris
Swirsky = FAIL
God forbid you dipsticks take responsibility for the mess you've left behind. Seth you never fail to underwhelm me.
Paul don't you know that conservatives reserve the right to make up whatever sht they feel like making up?
Um, nobody blamed Clinton?!? That's a whopper.
President Obama's blame game is getting real old, real fast. Frankly, the more he blames, the more childish and inexperienced he comes across. He whines like a kid who didn't get the bike he wanted for Christmas. Get over it.
http://the100mostannoyingthings.blogspot.com/
"He took the bull by the horns and went forward."
By letting Bin Laden go free? Cowboy down.
Tehstupid, you and Paul make such a cute couple. I bet you have pajama partys together and think up your stupid comments as a team, dontcha.
This is a conservative website. Can't you boys go play somewhere else? You're childish behavior is getting really old.
I'm not being remotely childish – I'm responding to the b.s. put forth by yourself, the other commenters and the post authors.
As if the petulant whining on this blog is serious or adult. If you don't like hearing from me don't read it. Your problem is that your "The One" who goes by the name of Bush is an epic disaster. He was a colossal f-up who invested nothing in this country for 8 years while raiding the treasury for the mega-wealthy. And he got you goobers to defend him with all the tenacity of a sports-radio caller.
Quite simply, you lost. Your politics got to do it exactly the way you wanted and look at the result. The argument is over cowgirl.
Stupid, you're the king of whining, but I refuse to comment to you anymore. You aren't worth my time or energy.
I feel sorry for you and your brethren. Y'all are epically stupid .
No worries though, I'm sure the porkulous bill has some earmark for special ed.
At least it took the libs 20 hours to find us….it's BUSH'S fault!!!
It definitely is scary. My son is 25 and this is the first time he has really paid attention to politics. He is definitely not an Obama fan. He once said to me, that, from what he saw of Pelosi and Reid that Obama seems more like their puppet. He also said that Obama appears more like a promoter than a President.
Seth, what a thrill to find out you're a conservative. I loved, "Baseball Letters", and have given it as a present to many people. I used to read it with my son. Now he's gone on to play college baseball. What a wonderful book. It will always have a special place in my memory.
GW feels better now than in the past eight years. At last, the weights have been lifted off of his broad shoulders. He's shown incredible stamina over the adversity and slimeball attacks. He showed character by fading away without the snipes and cheap shots of his predecessor and his "sweet" wife who assailed him. His loyalty got in the way, and when the Colin Powells & Scott McClellans turned on him, he still had class. Did he do some good – yes, and sometime he wasn't so good, but he is human. The left seems to always ignore that. How can one man be responsible for every evil ever known in the world?
Knowing all he knows, I bet he fears for the state of the world, and how the new squirrels that have taken his place will react in it.
Impressive!
A young person with insight.
Mike I will pass on your compliment to him (especially seeing that you both have the same first name…LOL)! The other thing is that we are Canadian and he has been discussing Obama, etc with the people he plays World of Warcraft with. I have always let him make up his own mind, I just ask that he explain to me why he believes in what he does.
Trish,
Thank you!
My son played Warhammer and ended up an Obama fan. Must be something in the game.
That's funny! Of course, you're assuming they're two separate people, which doesn't appear to be the case. Yep, one very angry, confused high schooler… in pajamas. LOL!!
Keep in mind that Ms. Pelosi is number 3 in line. That is what is truly scary.
Speaking on who succeeds the President.
After Nancy Peolsi the list gets enev scarier. The next on the list is the Grand Wizard himself, Robert Byrd. Following him is Hillary and so on to Janet (there are no terrorists) Napolitano. OMG
"What Olbermann didn’t tell his audience is that it was George P. Bush (son of former Governor Jeb Bush) – not George W. Bush…."
Um, from the transcript:
"Mr. Bush even said he thought Governor Crist ran the risk of falling into a category he called D-Light, as in Democrat light. Now, you would have thought such fiery partisanship from a freshly minted ex-president would have been bigger news. But, of course, the man who put party ahead of recovery was not President George W. Bush, but his nephew, Jeb‘s son, George P. Bush."
Media honesty indeed. What a bunch of fools.
