Two Hours of Jack Bauer Power Hour
by JudeThe big question is whether FOX will finally actually air a two hour show, or will they continue their habit of advertising such but then just showing one hour shows, back to back. I know, it seems trivial, but in reality it’s more of a cliffhanger than anything left in the actual show… WILL Jack live? mwahahahaha….

All right! Freckles is going to kick some butt. At least something came out of this rather disappointing season.
It's apparent to me that the show has run it's course. The plot never developed or held my interest, so if I missed it, it was no big deal – not like the first few years. The green nonsence and the PC crap – what next year? Bauer joins the Jihad on a mission to kill incandecent bulbs? Bah!
I second that – "Oh, my beloved show."
I feel such loss over such a dismal season with so many disappointing events. Whatever a-holes came up with this need to take some imagination lessons.
But I am not writing off the series yet. One bad season in 7 is a pretty good track record.
When it is back in January, 2 years will have passed and, with God's good graces, all these dreary ass characters and dreary ass situations will be foot-notes in "24" history. .
I feel sorry for some of you turd-jugglers that hate J. Garafalo so much that it ruined the show for you.
The GizmoTron up there all but insured that very few comments would appear about the show, just a lot of real-time quips, observations and off topic chit-chat.
Onward to January!
Chloe should have her own show. Her faceial expressions are great ..then again I havent seen the show since the first hour. I'll catch up. But tell me now, does Garafolo's character live? Did they do an "Edgar" on her????
I have been a rabid and loyal 24 fan from the first hour 7 seasons ago. What happened?! Where did Jack go? Remember the good days when Jack was biting the necks of Muslim terrorists while lashed to a chair? How about when he is actually killed and brought back , what, two or three times a few seasons back? Who thought it clever to bring back Kim and once again put her in peril? Yeah, that always worked, only when she wore her cheerleading outfit.
Janeane G was a wasted casting move. The most savory moment with her was when Jack verbally undressed her for her objections to find the criminals.
The ending was by far the worst ever. An Imam giving Jack last rights has got to be the most ridiculous move. Kim walking in to give her dad a stem cell therapy was without any credibility. COME ON!!! One can only hope that 24 set in New York will bring salvation to the most clever show on TV. Perhaps JJ Abrams can save the day.

Couple of comments. Like Jude, I wondered whether the season finale would be handled as a true 2 hour episode or two 1 hour episodes. Due to marketing, and to allow for maximum scheduling flexibility, Fox went with two 1 hour episodes. No surprise there. With 1 hour episodes, Fox can package whatever episodes they'd like together for an evening. If I remember correctly, there was another Monday night earlier this season where two episodes were shown. Also, for DVD purposes, having each episode one hour long is probably preferred.
My second comment relates to the poor writing for this season's "24"! Everyone in the blog commented on how poor and uninspired the writing was this year. There was a significant uptick in political correctness, not to mention the irritating "global warming" public service announcements, featuring "24" cast members. YECH!
I had my concerns about this season's writing when I saw that Brannon Braga and Manny Coto were featured writers this year, as well as co-executive producers. Brannon was a co-creator of "Star Trek: Enterprise" and, along, with Manny Coto, oversaw the storylines for that show. Most Star Trek fans will tell you that "Enterprise" was easily the weakest of the various Trek shows. And Brannon, in particular, used the gimmick of time travel way, way too many times in his "Enterprise" stories!!! Also, Braga always found time to include some current political correctness in his episodes. I suspect it was Brannon who came up with the ridiculous idea of Jack Bauer requesting the Muslim imam drop by to give Jack his last rites in the season finale!
Should Braga and Coto continue as writers for "24", I will NOT watch the show!! (Yes, I realize Manny Coto has been with "24" for the past 3 seasons, not just this past season).
Lastly, I hope Jude follows up on someone's excellent suggestion to write a BH blog piece summing up his thoughts and feelings about this season's 24. I would be most interested in reading it! And I know I am not alone in saying that!
So the PC police have infiltrated 24. No big surprise with Barfalow in the cast. That was my last 24 just like the current season of Rescue Me which I have not bothered to watch.
Lame all around. Creating suspense over something that everyone knows is not going to happen is a trick used by really lazy or just plain bad writers. I must also complain about the level, depth and range of some of the actors that they cast. There are some amazing ones out there. Use them. Also, keeping Tony alive? C'mon. Jack should have shot him in the head to end his pain, and ours. This rivals the suckitude of the season set in Mexico. Bring back the cougar stalking Kim! Watch for Jack to pray to the East next season.
next season being set in New York was divulged mid-season. Its no big secret .
It's a 'secret' if someone didnt know. I'm sure there are other 'secrets' that have been blabbed on line…..and I don't want to know them.
All in all a great season!

I thought the Muslim angle was actually a good effort, to show that some are held hostage by others who have hijacked a religion. What bothered me is there's been no other nod to any faith over the entire series, at least as far as I know. What interested me about the redemption scene is the emphasis on forgiving yourself–opposite to my own faith where you confess and ask God for forgiveness.
What I'd really have loved: casting whacko Garofalo as a mole, or at the least, having her suffer some dire consequence. Do you think the writing was in part because of the writers' strike that delayed everything last season?
I liked Jack's take on the 15 people on the bus–that he'd listen to his heart and do everything he could to save them no matter what.
Maybe they'll do a story line with the government trying to protect us under the current Clinton doctrine as opposed to the Bush doctrine. The Blind Sheikh would be a good model–remember how he laughed about plotting terrorism from his jail cell while his goofy attorney snuck the messages out? I also think a good left-wing neoliberal conspiracy would be timely.

They missed so many opportunities for great moments in this season and in exchange gave us instead a dead Bill Buchanan, an evil Tony, a little seen Chloe – none of which anyone wanted.
Chloe v Janice – should have been a bitch fight way earlier in the season, then there should have been an alliance earlier in the season to show some comradery with those 2 capable woman working together. Too bad they waited until the last hour to do that.
And I still do not remember seeing any scene in which Chloe is released from her FBI holding cell.

What a way to kill a once remarkable and unique series.
This whole season was typical Hollywood propaganda. It was clear that the writers were very much aware that 24 had a strong conservative viewing audience and were liberally (no pun intended) taking the opportunity to use the program to “educate” them on the errors of their ways. I got the message –this was my last season of 24.
The character of Jack Bauer was killed off this year long before he ever came into contact with a biological weapon.
