24 reasons to watch ‘24′ tonight despite Janeane Garofalo
by JudeI try to separate the art from the artist, I really do, especially among actors. The thing is, if you believe you can sense Garofalo’s hatred and disdain for us in her onscreen performance, you must be deeply sensitive. Whenever I feel myself doing that with an actor, I try to take a step back…. but then she said this the other day:
“The reason a person is a conservative republican is because something is wrong with them. Again, that’s science – that’s neuroscience. You cannot be well adjusted, open-minded, pluralistic, enlightened and be a republican. It’s counter-intuitive. And they revel in their anti-intellectualism. They revel in their cruelty.”
Tolerance.
And then she says this about Sarah Palin: “Of course she’s successful with a segment of the country because she represents that lesser segment of the country.”
Wow. Those are fighting words, you ugly little soul. No, that’s mean, and I don’t want to act like you just for the easy laughs. At least not here, in the ‘24′ blog! Please feel free to deeply insult many of my friends and family on the way to declaring yourself an arrogant, intolerant nut.
Meanwhile, we’re going to watch ‘24′ in the hopes that you are the mole. And maybe make fun of you.
See you in the comments!

Here's a bit of trivia…Garofalo and Rajskub have worked together before. What was the series?
She would be more believable as a mole
than as a trusted FBI techie who is so neurotic
about being upstaged by Chloe that she blackmails
a co-worker to illegally access Chloe's work.
I find it amusing that despite the fact that she wasn't the mole, her prattling narcissism is what allowed the real mole to succeed.
A self-involved liberal whose actions causes serious harm to others.
Couldn't be a more true to life example of the blinders of modern liberalism.
Dude – no kidding – Fox and FoxNews onlne for that matter seem to be leaning left – what gives? Believe me, Obama ain't what people wanted, it's what they got.
Not only will she be the heroine, she'll probably SAVE Jack.
Jeneane Garofalo is the strangest case for me. God help me, I've always found her very appealing on screen. Dare I say it…sexy and adorable. The Truth About Cats and Dogs, Mystery Men, Duane Hopwood, pretty much all of it. Then she steps out of character and her real persona is one step away from a homeless lady with a tinfoil hat pushing a shopping cart and screaming at invisible Republicans. It truly is a wonder.
At one point this ridiculous woman was asked why she had not been anti-war when the US was bombing Serbia, etc. Her explanation? IT WASN'T HIP. Whereas being anti-Iraq IS Hip. And that is how she views the world. She is, indeed, an "ugly little soul."
um, i think she actually has a point there. especially re; the sarah palin comment. sarah palin *does* represent the dummies of this country, and most conservative republicans *do* stand against intellectualism, learning, and all factual data that runs counter to their bible-based bullsnot. sorry, bub.
Skott works for Dubaku.
Dubaku is an undocumented terrorist.
a few years back i met her L.A. boyfriend. he was pissed that he'd just found out he was the "l.a. boyfriend". the new york boyfriend was cool with the situation, which i suppose says something about her taste in men.
Since I am on Central time, I have already missed it. Please, please, please make fun of her. She is a prime example of the phrase that my grandmother drummed into my pointy little head from childhood. "Pretty is as pretty does." Nasty little troll. Can't wait to read the blow by blow in the morning.
I mean, undocumented worker, doin' the job Americans won't do.
Dabaku is a pretty smooth talker.
FINALLY we're out of the Oval Office
awww… Dubaku has a soft spot?
Little bit of a yawn so far…
Well not every bad guy is totally evil…just wait til she finds out…that is if she is given the chance.
The O'Briens…yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We're back, and little sister is gonna be in TROUBLE!
Good idea, tell everyone Chloe O'Brian is here.
SWEET – Morris is back!
curly haired kid and everything
MOLE!
Chloe disses Larry.
here we go… Chloe/Janice showdown in 3, 2, 1…
Go Chloe!
I'm watching Sanford and Son. The one where Lamont goes African and won't let Fred eat pork. I should live blog that.
Tom Cruise's little brother is here to help Dubaku….hmmm
I'm comin' Elizabeth!!!!!
Yeah, no one saw that coming. Why would anyone suspect Dubaku of having an ins. policy?
Torture her Jack!
love that episode! in the end when the Africans tell Lamont to respect his father more
People like her are why I left the Democratic party. They were so intolerant with their tolerance. I couldn't stand them. I much preferred the conservatives. They seem like much nicer people who aren't afraid of hard work to get what they want. The liberals are always whining and wanting the government to take care of them. Yeah, Janeanne, is gross, I used to be a fan, but now I dislike her.
Lamont wants Fred to call him by his new African name "Kalunda" Fred wants to know if that's Swahili for "Dummy."
I really do try to avoid character asassination, but when it comes to this sniveling little guttersnipe I can't restrain myself. Garafalo is just another in the long line of lefites that actually believes she's got brains. "Ugly little soul" doesn't even begin to plumb the depths of this girl's repugnancy. With out a trace of femininity, she looks like she gets dressed in the dark. When I would see her on that old VH-1 stand up comedy show, my first thought was always "what an ugly little girl". And her mis-placed, enormous ego only adds to her repulseivness. I never thought I would see a girl more thoroughly revolting, both on the inside and out as Madonna, but this pudgy, pustule of a girl surpasses even her. I would not call her a taxi to take her to hell.
Jude, you and I just became lifelong buds.
The President is a blunt woman…not sharp, blunt.
Isn't Garofalo a scientologist? And she judges others based on her wealth of reaserch indicating that repubs are deficient at the subatomic level?
I can't help it, I love the President.
Jack is giving the little sis a pep talk, CTU style
Me too!
Dubaku has an extra creepy smile from the side.
Cue nice Jack.
Of course she'll do it. She wants to see him again.
Heh. Chloe is dissin' Larry's stupid computer set up again.
Well, crap. Now i love the big sister. I've gone all soft this episode. Bring back Janice vs. Chloe!
Is this thing on?
Janice has just been fire-walled, and doesn't like it…
I love Chloe! Nice comments…LOL!
Aaron!
Pierce!
Aaron is insisting.
All right, Agent Pierce is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111
Garafalo the blackmailer.
sorry guys, i have to take someone to the emergency room – should be fine, but have to rune
catch up tomorrow!
The younger sister is a goner.
She doesn't have a prayer, and Garafolo's character got her killed. The FBI liberal geek got that woman KILLED.
Jack is gonna' flip big time, BIG TIME on Garafolo.
It's gonna' be beautiful.
The series is set up for a showdown between the irresponsibile airhead lib who got a woman KILLED, and Jack, who has oft been decried.
Dang, now Chloe is sayin' "copy".
I hope everything is okay Jude!
Looks like I spelled Janice's real name wrong.
Well, ———————————————- WTF.
I'm just a "CRUEL" person, who "revels" in my "cruelty."
Garafalo puts her curiosity above capturing Dubaku or making sure Marika is okay. She may not be a mole but she is a heartless bitch.
Well, with 10 minutes to go it looks like Jude's suspicions are correct. If Jack's gotta kill anyone I am glad it is Janeane!
One would think that since Larry knows there is a mole, he would have the mainframes guarded and monitored.
actually I think that miss g did not cause it, it was the adulterer that gave her the key~
Larry get me out of this speeding ticket!
And what does Jimmy Carter 2.0 Socialist Edition represent skott?? Go tune in to witness the morons (such as yourself) that elected him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm1KOBMg1Y8
You libtards also made fun of Reagan and tried to paint him to be an idiot as well, while you raise up the likes of morons Nancy Pelosi, Harry 'white flag' Reid, and Barney Frank as standard bearers for your pathetic jackass party.
Save a child. Abort a libtard.
Big mouth Garafalo spills the beans to the mole.
No one monitors outgoing calls at the FBI when they got a mole.
Now Dubaku now knows his girlfriend is going to help turn him in, thanks to Garafalo's loose lips.
Well, typical 24, unfortunately Janeane is just neurotic and it is her partner
So what are people's opinion about this episode?
skotty,
"most conservative republicans *do* stand against intellectualism, learning, and all factual data that runs counter to their bible-based bullsnot"
I consider myself conservative, and my previous career was in academia (intellectual stuff) So let's dissect this statement of yours.
conservative, pre-election: "I can't vote for Obama, he has no executive experience (fact), and most of his associations are with people who preach hate and violence (fact).
liberal response: "you're a racist then" (no fact, purely emotional).
conservative: "Is this 'stimulus' bill really what's right for the economy? I can't find anything in here that promotes small business growth or domestic production. And social programs don't generate future income, they just spend what they get." (Concern based on free market dynamics, and healthy distrust of congress)
liberal: "Bush got us into this mess, you're just a hater." (emotional response, doesn't address the concerns)
conservative: "while not all Muslims are terrorists, most major terrorist attacks internationally in the past decade have been by self-proclaimed muslims." (fact)
liberal: "racist. Radical christians are just as bad."
I could go on.
I'm not saying that ALL conservatives are intellectual thinkers, or that all liberals are emotional panty-waists — but that there are just as many ignorant and intellectual people on both sides. So, making a wide-sweeping assessment that conservatives are de facto ignorant, and not engaging in an intelligent debate, really only shows how ignorant YOU are.
Slap agent Walker Jack!
I assume your intellectual capabilities extend to understanding the "straw man" logical fallacy? Because you commit it here multiple times – perfect textbook examples. But thanks for the demonstration – I'll bookmark your comment and use it as a demonstration.
I think I like everything about garafolo except her political views. I have never seen anything else she has ever been in except a few interviews. She is a convincing actress. Mabey we can have a tasty catfight between her and chloe. Satisfy my catfight fetish and ugly girl fetish at the same time. Flaws make it better. Seriously, I am glad 24 is still on and I hope people keep watching it to keep ratings up so it will continue. My other fav show, the Unit looks to be in its last season. Good shows always get cancelled on me.
wow. what a mindbogglingly constructive dialogue. awesome.
spiro: missed your comment — i thus partially retract my last post & cannot offer anything in the way of a response to your, as i mostly agree with what you wrote.
gsw,
did you read my last paragraph, or were you in too much of a hurry to showcase your knowledge of "the strawman fallacy"?
But we can dream can't we? She may yet turn out to be the mole or at least an enabler of the bad guys. In which case, Jack is free to shoot, stab or otherwise dispatch her. 'Tis a consummation devoutly to be wished.
gee whiz, chitown. you sound kinda scared. poor baby. i may not be as far over to the left as your small, reptile brain may have assumed.
Conservatives love to stand against PSEUDO-intellectualism, yes. I must confess I missed the meetings where we ralied against learning: DOWN WITH ARITHMETIC! STOP READING KIDS, IT MAKES YOU BREAK OUT! I'm sure in skott's imagination these meetings occurred just before our weekly KKK shindigs. Then we all pile in the cars and head off to the "factual data" protest. Hey skott how about you stop thinking you're smart and start actually being smart?
Trish I expected Chloe to immediately discover the computer breach and know it was Janeane – when theat didn't happen I was surprised to find it was her partner who is the mole – typical 24 – like the Perils of Pauline – you never know how it's going to end – until it ends. I do like Agent Walker. I liked the episode – so far people's predictions of this season being a "pc" season with a softer Jack, aware of his transgressions and apologgetic – is proving unfounded. When I compare NBC's Heroes which to me has proven horrible to the 1st season (thought they would salvage the 2nd season) , 24 made good use of the time afforded by the writer's strike – at least that is my opinion.
But you indeed are as stupid as those morons on the far left.
And, BTW, your strawman in this case is actually a woman. Garafalo has used each of the above liberal arguments in televised debates.
Thanks for answering my question. I too like Agent Walker and next week looks to be interesting between her and Jack. I will be interested in seeing how Jack responds to her questions. I am enjoying this year so far and I am enjoying reading people's comments as the show airs.
Garofalo is just another mentally ill Hollywood leftist trying to work out her "issues" on stage and on screen. I'm certain that she was teased mercilessly when she was a child and went into stand-up as a way of talking back to those people who hurt her long ago.
I didn't like the idea of her being added to 24, but she's nicely cast as the insecure and homely computer techie who thinks she's much smarter than she is. What is puzzling to me though is how she got on 24. She must have one terrific agent who's charming, because she isn't.
Skott, I'm not sure why you say that; I am a conservative educator who more than embraces intellectualism and learning…oh, and tolerance for others' right to have thoughts and beliefs that differ from mine.
Sorry. I won't be caught dead watching that or any other show where that slimeball makes an appearance.
i suppose it was terribly naive of me to assume i could engage in some sort of meaningful or even remotely constructive dialog here. with the exception of a very small minority (spiro), there seems to be aught here but cowardly ignoramuses who get their kicks hurling insults at total strangers based on the posting of brief comments (mine surely couldn't have conveyed all that much about me and what sort of person i am… certainly not enough to call me "stupid").
i feel for you, mariaElena and chitown. i truly do. my best guess is that you must be shut-ins or something along those lines, and spend the better part of your days chair- or bed-bound attacking "liberals' from the relative safety of your computer keyboards, you poor, shallow, ignorant little half-wits.
it's a shame people can't express a dissenting opinion without being insulted. i suppose it was pretty crazy of me to have assumed that people –regular people like myself– might offer something of substance in return. anyway, you're all far too evolved for the likes of me. have fun putting those silly liberals in their place, folks.
yes, yes. apologies for the generalization there. but i must know what being a 'conservative educator' entails. is that somehow different from being a 'liberal educator'? i guess a better question would be; why would your politics (right, left, or center) even enter in to what you do as an educator? my apologies if i've misunderstood what you wrote.
Garofolo strikes me as someone who is still trying to sit at the "cool' table in the high school cafeteria.
I did that in another thread Dan. Time won't heal this offense. The remorse I feel in incalculable. I'm just a goofbag witha twist of irony
Skott,
I tried to post a direct reply on your thread but it didn't take for whatever reason.
You said you came here hoping for an intellectual conversation. Great! I'm up for it.
You say that Christians are more or less anti-science and anti-intellectual. Were you aware that many of our most noted scientists were believers in a Creator of some sort? People like Einstein, Newton, Pasteur. I could list dozens.
Lemme respectfully recommend a couple links for you to check out. William Lane Craig and Lee Strobel are both former atheists who scientifically and intellectually explored the evidence for and against a Creator. (Craig especially is a BRAIN!! The guy is AMAZING!) Both eventually came to the conclusion that Christianity is, as C.S. Lewis wrote, "a reasonable faith", based on historical evidence and science.
I'm NOT asking you to believe what they believe, but I am asking you to approach it with the open mind you say you have and objectively examine the evidence for yourself.

I feel sorry for her dad. Watch Left of the Dial on HBO. He's a good man with clear moral sense. He tries to talk sense to her, but she very tellingly argues that her dad's point of view turned out to be wrong because the cool kids at college disagreed! That was her argument. As far as "neuroscience" goes, she couldn't be more obviously a clinical narcissist.
"it's a shame people can't express a dissenting opinion without being insulted."
No, the real shame is that liberals call conservatives names, and then whine when they get called names in return.
For your information, most conservatives would be happy to attack you to your face. We're the gun nuts, remember?
The only quintile of white voters that voted predominantly Dem in 2004 was the poorest of the five. The overwhelming majority of people with an undergraduate degree voted Republican in 2004. This is what us anti-intellectuals call "factual data." Does it make your vagina hurt, Skott?
And this is the problem with most liberals I run into: Overanalysis. Suzq was just saying they're a conservative who is also an educator.
As far as how this influences education; it shouldn't. With the good ones, you can't tell their political bias. However, I've noticed a growing trend among more liberal-leaning educators to force their viewpoints on their students (e.x. papers that require bashing conservatism, or aspects of conservative ideology, writing letters to Bush about what an idiot he is, flipping out when a conservative counter-point is made to an in-class rant, etc.). I've experienced it personally in college, though not as often as my peers who went to bigger colleges, and a few of my friends' kids have in their secondary schools.
I've never encountered a conservative teacher who does the same. In fact, I couldn't figure out the political ideology of most of my conservative teachers from high school until after I switched my major to AYA Social Studies and had to do interviews with them about the various ways teachers' attitudes influence the classroom. In fairness, the good liberal teachers were the same way.
Excuse me? csc5502 is right; you started off with "um, i think she actually has a point there. especially re; the sarah palin comment. sarah palin *does* represent the dummies of this country, and most conservative republicans *do* stand against intellectualism, learning, and all factual data that runs counter to their bible-based bullsnot. sorry, bub"
and then whine about not being able to carry on about being insulted.
This is one of those dummies… I'll take Jesus over your view of the world any day.

Bible based bullsnot? From one who expects some sort of "meaningful dialog? Why don't you go back to your main job? Biting the head off chickens in some carnival sideshow!
Greed: No– wealth.
Racism: What are you smoking? Do you know which party was founded on the goal of abolishing slavery and supported the Civil Rights Act when the other party stubbornly opposed it?
Sexism: Remind me again which of the 2008 presidential candidates paid their female staff the same as the men.
Xenophobia: As far as some people are concerned, Texas is a foreign place full of scary people.
Stupidity: Remind me again which party the NEA tends to vote for, overwhelmingly, and compare that with the performance of our public education system.
Well Armed Lefty, eh? What I wouldn't give to get you into a locked room with a steel baton and my S&W 1911. I'd teach you about "stupidity" punk.
Can anyone say they'd re-watch a single 24 episode that's aired this year? I have the previous years on DVD and watched them coming up to this year's season start, but I can't think of a single episode I'd want to watch over again! This Janene Garfalo (sp?) person is a pathetic little weasel, isn't she? How does someone like her ever get on TV? I mean, she's not entertaining to watch, even in the "riveting spectacle" sense, and her skin looks like she uses a lot of drugs or something. I've just about had it with 24 although I still like "Jack". I heard "Chloe" speak on talk radio, and she admitted she knows nothing about computers…..kinda spoiled her character for me.
Ah well, 24 has gone to s***, just like everything else in the world.
