In a somewhat off-handed observation – Liberal activists are to sensitivity what radical Islamist Fundamentalists are to a religion of peace. The major difference there is that at least one of them does have something that they believe in.

You and Jamesb are right, but the hard left is not 53 % of the country. I was hoping that there are a few who were (mis-)guided by their civic virtues and who are appalled by what is happening now.

But it seems that at least for those who infest blog comments the simply rule is "we have no enemies on the left".

The most memorable comment I've ever read on these boards was by someone who was raised in a leftist family. He said that the right still does not understand the psychology of liberals, and how the left as a whole has no desire to respect fair competition. They don't believe in the arena of ideas, compromise, the Constitution, or setting proper precedents. They only believe in winning at any cost, no matter what the deception. I always gave the benefit of the doubt before, but it took this explanation to help me understand otherwise.

This is why I now feel that Obama will create a trainwreck before we'll get a chance to reset the tracks.
