One Man’s Colonic is Another Man’s Torture
by John Scott LewinskiYou’re going to have to excuse hard-left Hollywood types if they don’t get on board for the whole waterboarding thing. The concepts of forceful interrogations and the need to get dangerous people to reveal their life-threatening plans is as far removed from their daily experiences as, say, humility or well-reasoned arguments.
Most folks working in the entertainment industry live in pockets of Los Angeles in which they’re so warmly cocooned in smug, safe familiarity that they don’t have to worry about encountering so much as an opposing political philosophy, let alone a foreign hostile enthusiastically set on killing them. How are these actors, writers, directors, producers, et. al, supposed to take foreign terrorist threats seriously when the most they have to concern themselves with during their average day is whether that spa barista really did use soy milk and not non-fat in their morning coffee colonic?
Of course, they take that safe comfort completely for granted and never think to respect or thank the men and women risking their lives to preserve it. In fact, the entire concept that there might be grimly determined, painstakingly trained and resolutely dedicated Americans who work day and night to keep Hollywood and the rest of the civilized world safe from fanatical attacks is truly beyond their Fred Segal-ized, Wolfgang Puck’ed comprehension. So, if they can’t perceive of such honorable public servants, we can’t expect them to show any support for their efforts.
You have to understand that, while hard working at their chosen entertainment careers, Hollywood types are generally not a hearty breed. We’re talking about generally wispy, uber-sensitive folk who don’t like getting their hands dirty. Well-educated and desperate to be liked, they don’t want their qi and chakras befouled by any bad buzz — even though the world is awash in it.
Unfortunately, that all means if the law of the jungle ever took hold around them, they’d be the first ones hollowed out, stretched, tanned and made into survival shelters by the rest of us who dug a ditch or bled on the grass now and then.
And that would be too bad because a lot of them are my friends. They’re good people at the end of the day. They don’t want to hurt anyone (besides Sarah Palin and anyone who got the role they auditioned for earlier). They’re just not adept at facing and accepting the uglier realities of the world — that the bad guy gets a vote and, when he decides to bring down a downtown LA skyscraper with a jetliner full of innocent passengers, he’s not likely to tell any of our authorities about it if you simply offer him a comfy chair and a cup of tea.
Of course, their lord and savior declared waterboarding off limits now. And that’s fine. It’s been well argued by some in the intelligence committee (including high-ranking FBI officials) that the technique is unreliable and unnecessary. So, go ahead, Hollywood hard left folk. Applaud your hand-selected government as it takes that ugly waterboarding off the table as an interrogation option. I know it troubles you to read about such distasteful realities in the New York Times over your organic sprout luncheon muffins.
But, you’d best be prepared to decided what techniques you will support — what limits you’re willing to test to interrogate those planning future terrorist actions, because the problems those interrogations are meant to solve aren’t going away. There are men out there right now who are watching this “torture” debate — looking at all of Hollywood’s self-righteous indignation and sterile pontificating. They don’t debate. They don’t give themselves hugs for how evolved, compassionate and enlightened they are. They just plan and wait.
They behold all of the Starbucks, Sushi Rokus and Urban Outfitters — all of the self-absorbed, delicate people filling them — and they laugh through clinched teeth until they’re heard from again with a violent bloodlust that makes waterboarding look like a garra rufa pedicure.

Well educated?
Maybe the discussion of waterboarding causes them to have flashbacks to high school when they were getting swirlies.
America is losing the ability to face the realities of life on planet Earth. Most of Europe has already lost this ability because the generous American people provided the protection that allowed them to do so. I wonder why it is that Japan, although let's say "pascifist" in nature, has no delusions about the neighborhood they live in and would go nuclear in about 48 hrs. if the need ever arose. What I hope for, is that as returning American vets re-enter civilian life, they will raise their voices and educate their countrymen on the real threat to our nation. And I sure hope some of them enter politics.
Oh the Horror!
Perhaps "Well-Indoctrinated" would be a more realistic term.
We had a momentay lapse when we failed to use our PC BS to English translator.
Hey, do you know what I had to go through to get my degree in Drama Production, buddy? I had to work on play after play after play. Sometimes twice in one semester! I had to study art, art history, fashion history, playwriting, and the toughest most gruellingly and intellectually draining of classes – ACTING! Do you know what it does to a person to BE a slice of bacon??? I was the best slice of bacon since Streep, but at what cost? And you with your petty JD! I scoff at your JD! I was a DRAMA MAJOR!
I second that comment: well-educated?!?!
Otherwise, excellent article!! Hits the nail on the head!
Well I have Empathy that I can pass around to them as they have a nice Colonic. Life is rough as they sit in traffic and speak on the iphone but hey someone has to do it. Best wishes to Hollywood I hope reality does not smack them alongside the head when a jihadist does not like a movie that shows skin.
"he’s not likely to tell any of our authorities about it if you simply offer him a comfy chair and a cup of tea."
No one expects the Spanish Inquistion.
Seriously, if you tale the postions that the left promotes and the reasons they state for such promotion then you invariably find yourself in the farce of a Monty Python sketch.
I was an actor before I was a lawyer. My Stanislavsky teacher said I did "chest of drawers with one drawer open" better than anyone. I tried it once in front of a jury. They seemed confused. I must have forgotten what my motivation was. Speaking of bacon, it's time for breakfast. LOL
It's the same way with crime. They sit in the safety of their spas, coffee shops, boutiques etc, and never have to worry about a street gang shooting them for their BMWs or Gucci purses. It only hits them that there are those out there who rob, rape and kill because they want to, after something happens to them. If some truck driver gets pulled out of his vehicle and half beaten to death, it's just another piece of news.
I think all of us are wrong about "O's" torture policy, ya see this is all a set up, he will have the bad guys (terrorist to you and me) believing that they will not be tortured and then !BAM!, he's gonna lay it on 'em.
<sarc>
Ronald Reagan said it best… "It's not that Liberals don't know anything, it's just that so much of what they do know is wrong."
C'mon now Bev, don't knock art history. I got my BA in art history before getting my BArchitecutre. It ain't just lookin' at pretty pictures
. Now if you'd said "chemistry for poets" (an actual class) I'd have been down with you.
Oh man, I just used my first 2 "emoticons"…pathetic.
I really don't know what the lefties have against "Spa Gitmo" I mean the terrorists never had it so good.
Doesn't that old saying go something like this….history repeats itself twice, the first time as farce (Python), the second time as tragedy. I fear the tragedy is on the way.
I'm betting a lot of our elite actors don't have a GED. Back in the 80's a few actresses went up to testify in front of congress about the disappearance of the family farm. Why were they there? Because they were in a movie about farming. Reminds me of the saying "I'm not a genius, but I play one on TV".
Thanks for summing up my thoughts on the subject so succinctly. I'll still throw my nurf bricks at the TV when I see Opie the Geezer, Tom Hanks or Jeaneane Garofolo (and their fellow drones) pontificating on politics and/or environmental issues, though.
Well that was instructive. The Hollywood glitterati are as vacuous as I’d imagined, thanks for the confirmation.
You've got a PC BS to English translator? OMG where did you get it? I really need one because the PC BS gets changed daily and I can't keep up.
"Coffee colonic"? Does that mean what I think it means?
Oh yes, it certainly does – be prepared to laugh out loud when you read this….

I have heard that a celebrity undergoing an epidermal peel is in worse pain that being waterboarded.
I know the commentary is about Hollywood Liberals, but the truth is you can find the exact same attitude among most Liberals anywhere. I can't count the number of times I've seen Liberals scoff at the notion that we are in danger from Islamic extremists. They treat 9/11 as an isolated incident (deep-down believing we deserved it on some level), and insist it won't happen again. Therefore, they attack any argument that morals or laws need to be bent to keep us safe, because they tell themselves the framing of the argument is irrelevant.
If you're in your house with a weapon and someone breaks in, you'll do anything to protect your family (including use one intruder as a bargaining chip against another). However, if you're not in that situation, the detached, intellectual argument is that using such violent tactics (including deadly force or blackmail) would be wrong, and even prosecutable. The problem is that's until it happens again, it's impossible to make them consider it an imminent threat.
Margaret Thatcher has a terrific line: “The facts of life are conservative.”
I don’t have a problem with your stars living the cocoon life. I have problem, however, with moral degenerates lecturing to me in Australia from their cocoons.
Their idea of international travel is moving from one 5 star hotel to the next, and/or travelling with bodyguards, because, presumably they believe they're entitled to a safe life, as opposed to “those” waitresses in L.A.
The terms vary on a daily basis: What the hell is "harsh interrogation?" I went to Catholic School, and I can tell you what the Nuns used to do to us.
Ditto, my older brothers. So, have we ever heard any of these smug liberals define torture? NO.
What we need is a significant impact to the quality of life in L.A. for these Libs to take this threat seriously. Oh wait, the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are bankrupting the state, the MEXICAN GANGS are terrorizing the other gangs and the citizenry, and Obama is going to tax the dogs–t out of these folks.
Never mind.
Good luck with all of that.
Lawhawk beat me to it. I lost the whole article when I got hung up on the "well educated" part. This guy who is always on rightie blogs and loves to post 600 links posted a list of about 50 top stars once, and only about 5 of them had actually gone to college, and most hadn't finished HS. Perhaps he was referring to writers, directors, money men? Surely more of them have secondary education? I have no idea. They all seem light on knowledge and exceedingly shallow when I hear them interviewed. Who knows?
Personally, I think BushCo had a great plan. Let them eat all they want, and now most of them are out of shape fat b/tards. I guess if we get them obese enough then they will be unlikely to go back on the battlefield and do anything for awhile. Or else stroke out, whichever comes first.
I've had colonics, Brazillian waxes, and microderm abrasion. I would rather be waterboarded. Trust me, it was all painful. And the pain lingers for a while.
As I have noted here before, I have actually lived with true torture for years with my ex. He could show a few CIA agents a thing or two. It didn't have controls and time limits, I assure you. This is why it makes me so extra angry for these people to try and be holier than thou and say we are above interrogations. I don't see them going down to women's shelters and putting themselves out there for really abused women and children. Some might raise some money, or give a donation, but are they there learning about what goes on first hand? Why not? If you want to posit yourself as an activist, get active. Not just your money, get off your butt and get involved.
It's funny how cetain words become a mantra to these people described above, words like "global warming," "waterboarding," and "green solutions." They have to cling to these cliches when providing explanations or solutions that smother their cognitive dissonance when dealing with problems in the real world. The irony is that it's the mind-set of these people who help exacerbate the problems, especially when their prescribed cures are worse than the original problem, if there ever was a problem in the first place.
It's ironic that the techniques so maligned by those in Hollywood are what saved LA from being attacked the same way NY was. It's so odd that an attack on LA might be one of the best things that could happen to a lot of the Liberal media in this country to wake them up and make them realize that extremist really don't care what they say.
I just hope some people start waking up before these people get hold of something a lot more powerful than a jetliner. I guess we'll see what questioning techniques the left will support once a whole city disappears…
Hilarious!!
And there it is. These people typically have the morals of a junky manwhore twitching for his next fix.
They truly behave like five year olds with that narcissistic belief that if they close their eyes, then no one can see them and the world actually ceases to exist until they open them again. Morons, the entire lot of them.
Agree! History is repeating itself right now, and so few see it. The Congress (just like the old Roman Senate) is asleep while the Goths are encroaching; only this time it's from the South, a slow but steady invasion for several decades now. Other invaders creep in under the radar, and plot attacks on our infrastructure. Our leaders need a good elbowing to the ribs to wake them up before it's too late, but I fear that it already is.
Bravo, John. Great post and dead-on accurate. Though I am in Hollywood, I'm not OF Hollywood. Spa's, tofu, mud baths, chi chi…don't know that world, thank God. And I will submit to waterboarding any time, but you don't need to go to that trouble, I'll tell the truth: Socialism, liberalism, progressive-ism, whatever you call it….is killing our once-great country. There, i told the truth, no faux-torture necessary. The Islamofascists are laughing at us at what pansy-assed women we've become in this nation. Elite, pseudo-intellectual, arrogant, sissies…that's our 'leadership'.
Patriots! — it's time we kicked their F$#@%*ng asses and took our country back.
Get your horse tack!…
Not sure if this is the right place (I’m not really good with computers), but left you a trackback for your readers, if they ever need some information about horse tack….
