Tinseltown Twitters Tea Parties
by John Scott LewinskiDuring this past week’s “Tea Party” protests across the country, this reporter monitored the Twitter and Facebook chatter amongst his Hollywood actor and writer friends. It was an absolute, eye-opening education on the effectiveness of hard-left indoctrination.
Note: Out of respect for my friends and peers, I deliberately and carefully paraphrased any postings or “tweets” listed here so as to protect the anonymity of the poster. Unlike many hard-core liberals I know, I enjoy having friends with opposing points of view and I don’t want abuse to come to them.
That said, the following are the best examples out of several short messages from Obama supporters quietly protesting the “Tea Parties.”
1) How about taking “tea party” passion and all of the tea and instead of dumping it give those in need something to drink?
Evidently, there’s a “death by dehydration” epidemic spreading throughout metropolitan Los Angeles that caught me by surprise.
That said, this demonstrates the dim view by the hard left that anyone protesting excessive taxes is inherently selfish and wants the poor to suffer. It assumes that all taxes go directly to the poor and never to ridiculously wasteful government programs, brain dead federal employees and pork. If you don’t want the government to take more and more of the money you earn, it’s not because you distrust the effectiveness of big government. It’s because you hate the underprivileged.
Of course, this lazy worldview is completely blind to the possibility that any individual could oppose ever-growing taxation and still make donations to a non-profit or volunteer at their local (Gasp!) church. Any such possibility is pointless to imagine because if you reject taxes — if you so much as question the President proposing them — you’re a miserly racist.
2) It’s so silly, environmentally damaging and ignorant.
Make no mistake here. Simple reactions like this grow out of the hard left’s inherent, knee-jerk smugness and insecurity. They’re so deeply invested in shaky propositions like Obama’s economic theory and the tired global warming debate that any uprising against any such cause enrages them.
It’s silly and ignorant to question your government? Tea leaves are environmentally damaging? No. What’s ignorant and damaging is bowing, scraping and coughing up endless supplies of money to a ready-made king in the White House without asking what he wants it for, why he’s asking for so much so quickly, or when he’ll stop asking for it.
That’s the most disturbing part of the opposition to the taxpayer revolt. No one on the hard left is debating the taxes themselves, their amounts, their purpose, etc. They’re simply attacking the protesters for having the unmitigated snot to stand up to the Cult of Obama and ask questions. It’s hero worship turned ugly.
3) They’re not overly good at sharing. They need to go back to kindergarten.
There’s the ultimate achievement of brainwashing by the hard left. They’ve got their followers believing that it’s generous — even a privilege –to pay taxes. Yes, you’re required by law to pay them, but apparently you’re supposed to enjoy shelling out — to be grateful for the opportunity to contribute to society’s great need and to participate in Obama’s master plan.
Sure, you might’ve been able to make a charitable donation you approve of with said money. You might have made a purchase that helps maintain someone in a job — or even started a small business to keep multiple people employed. But it’s better to turn your brain and ambition off and simply write out the check. Hand over the money, smile, and be grateful that the all-powerful and ever-wise federal government is there to decide what to do with your money. Anyone who doesn’t realize the privilege Washington bestows upon them is ignorant and racist.
(How do I “tweet” me sitting here, sadly shaking my head on how dead the maverick, independent American spirit really is?)

The Tea Party phenomonom has hit The Left very hard. The brittle quality of the political dialectic snapped at the first sign of organized dissent. Now, the rush is on. Can we, conservatives of every stripe, unite effectively and de-rail this apocolyptic train wreck in time?
Not if the Left has it's say. The move to regulate Free Speech is in hyper-drive. Soon there will be local 'committees' to determine if radio content is serving 'local interests'. The so-called ; 'Fairness Doctrine' is not dead yet, and Obamunism wants to control Internet activity as well…
Tea, anyone?
it brings to mind the phrase "when everyone thinks alike, there isn't much thinking going on"
i know some will use their dazzling wit and say that the right is guilty too. Ok. but how many on the right stopped supporting Bush? We looked at him critically from the beginning. (He was my governor after all) Limbaugh, Savage and others said he was no conservative during the 2000 campaign.
But there does not seem to be as much of teh critical thinking going on from his supporters in the early days of Obama's (all hail) administration.
I asked a coworker if there was anything Obama (all hail) could do that would cause him to not support our president. He said no. That that would be disloyal. That is s problem. You have to accept everything your guy says and does without even questioning it.
I voted for bush in 2000, not in 2004. not because i wanted him to lose but because i wanted him to do better thatn he had don. to uphold his campaign promises. to think his policies through. Through it all i still belive myself to be a Bush supporter. (ok defender and apologist) but he did a lot to disappoint me.
Again, the left are only good at "one-liners" and no substance.
The pioneer spirit is dead in pockets of America, you know blue states. The Tea Parties were an example of free Americans that can think for themselves, as opposed to a liberal rent-a-mob. Expecting a reasoned thought process from wussie liberals, ain’t gonna happen, they’re scared we have to respect that, not!
I think it goes without saying that none of us have ever seen such worship of an American president. It is because the people that worship him, all kneel at the altar of instant celebrity. Better to be popular that right – The "Tweet Generation". Vapid and shallow, they do what they are told with no thought to consequences. Because in a Twitter world there are no consequences.
It must have been all the "hope" that was put in the koolade that shut down all higher brain function. These goofs don't even bother to ask what the fuss is about. Just sit back and sling insults and brain dead parroting of their latest messiah.
"Environmentally damaging?"
*blink*
That's the best they got?
Dumb One Liners… "How about taking “tea party” passion and all of the tea and instead of dumping it give those in need something to drink?"
Uh… I'm pretty sure no one dumped any liquid tea. I doubt whoever tweeted this knows that tea comes from tea leaves and water, there are no magical tea underground springs or anything.
I can say that among my poisonous, liberal, NYC-dwelling cohort, the reaction has been more like patronizing amusement. It's cute that the conservative right are now getting their Bush Years, with all the acting out and histrionics that we enjoyed from 2000-2008.
John. will there be heads exploding in Tinseltown by revelation that "brutal, inhumane, illegal, typical consevative, Nazi-like, oppressive" enhanced interrogation of KSM et al apparently saved the lives of untold Angelinos by preventing a "9/11 the Sequel" redux? I say those you speak of,"twitter me that Tweetman"!
Yeah, I was hoping for something pithy. Instead, we get something that even makes our trolls look good.
Now Bev, just because word in D.C. is that Paris Hilton (not Perez Hilton, the raving anti-hetero bigot) is in line for the ambassadorship to the Vatican it doesn't mean we have an administration that bows not only to Saudi kings, but to cult of personality worship, headed by Chief Messiah Obama. It been reported that when the idea was broached to Obama his responsewas a big smile and a perky "that's hot!". Then he went back to stroking his dog and relaxing in the sun with a cool gin & tonic.
the fact that most tea parties i'm familiar with asked people to pick up garbage blows this out.
compare that to the inaguration. was it 24 tons of trash?
I agreed and disagreed with GWB on many issues. How was I being "disloyal" and if so, why did I owe him "loyalty?"
Ditto, BO. The guy is a twit and we need to call a spade a spade. Yes, I know, that was a bad choice of words. I will be a monkey's uncle and don't throw me in the briar patch! Oh shoot, again. Here comes the FBI, fight ahead of the Huff Po.
I had a FB friend who beat Anderson Cooper and David Shuster to the oral sex joke during his Tea Party day status. (We aren't really that close.)
He had started a dialogue with his other lefty friends by saying, "Don't these people have jobs to go to?"
"Yes," I responded, "and they want to keep the money they are earning at said job."
This, of course, was like fumigating a house and watching the spiders crawl out from the walls. All these people I didn't know felt my response needed to be waterboarded with a deluge of juvenile arguments. I suddenly felt like I was back in elementary and listening to a group of fussy children yelling, "I know you are but what am I?"
If paying taxes to them is so honorable, I have no problems letting them pay mine too.
They are scared. Their doctrine is being questioned. And, truthfully, they know their Pavlovian responses might fail.

Here's some hope and change conservatives can believe in. I used to be an Independent, and up until the last election voted for 3 Republican Presidents and 3 Democratic Presidents. On the local scene, I've probably voted for more Democrats, but guess what? After 8 yrs. of absolute derangement by the left, I said whoa and started to take a deeper look at liberals and their policies. I saw what drives liberals (feelings, not reason) and the inherent failures and lies of so many of their policies.
Am I the only person who never voted for Bush and THEN moved to the right? I don't know, but there are plenty of Independents and moderate Democrats out there who may be reawakened as they see the dangerous direction we're heading in.
This is golden opprotunity, lets hope the RNC get's it's heads out of it's collective a$$es, and soon. They should targeting 50 to 70 vulnerable Dems congress criminal/traitors for removal. Stop playing "pattycakes" with these people, they mean our country harm. Find the underfunded easiest picking and go after them. Get the low hanging fruit. It seems obvious, not "San Fran Nan" although a few speakers have been defeated recently, but in sane districts. Dang we need a new Lee Atwater RIGHT NOW!
"3) They’re not overly good at sharing. They need to go back to kindergarten."
Just how many Democratic nominations had problems "Sharing" the required tax burden? I lost count.
They must not have been sharing that "feeling" at the time.
I bet your Hollywood actor and writer friends have not been to a government office lately or dealt with a government agency, the ones who are supposed to help the people. Ever single time I have had dealings with a federal or state agency I became worse off then before I went.
As far as I know, the typical conservative that attended the tea parties didn't own a G5 that is used to ferry the in-tune celebrities to Aspen and Park City. I'd venture to say that the carbon footprint (such a stupid feel good term) of an F150 is much less.
I friend of mine at my hot-seat of liberalism college used the environment defense (after I tore apart her "why are you fighting the government?" defense). I offered to use an organic tea bag if it made her feel better. Conversation sort of died after that.

I got that one from a friend on Facebook.
I guess he didn'rt see pics of the mall after the Inauguration
funny thing though- the tea parties aren't populated solely by conservatives.
For example, here in Chicago a local blog run by gay Democrats (hillbuzz) did major amounts of work organizing the tea party.
But thanks for the example of lazy minded stereotyping, and thanks for playing!
The difference being that Obama actually is doing crazy, nonsensical things. His CIA stunt for example…
Wow, so much concentrated stupid – no wonder they don't write their own dialogue.
"1) How about taking “tea party” passion and all of the tea and instead of dumping it give those in need something to drink?"
Right- or even better using that energy and passion to put together a completely narcissistic little video of ourselves blathering about how "I pledge to get to know the names of my neighbors"?- oh wait, you already did that…
2) It’s so silly, environmentally damaging and ignorant.
But trashing the national mall for teleprompter messiah's inaugural- that's cool though.
Ignorant hypocrite much?
"3) They’re not overly good at sharing. They need to go back to kindergarten."
You first, comrade- howzabout you send me a nice fat chunk of your next multi-million dollar film deal, then we can talk?
They're only worried because there might not be enough water left to make that kool-aide they keep drinking.
your passion is evident and exihilerating… this is indeed the plan, and the left knows they face a whuppin' in '10. Which is why the hyperdrive now…
yes, patronizing… for now. They are whistling past the graveyard and know it; the CNN hit lady proved that beyond a doubt. Plus the more moderate folk who bought into his bill of goods are now, quoting David Byrne -”what have I done?” – so the discomfort of the hard left is now becoming complete and total. This is gonna get interesting, and fast, too…
Let me know when the twits er tweets volunteer to cut a bigger check to the IRS. I'm wondering how to deduct medical expenses and these whiners are worrying about sharing. Oh my bad, they don't want to share with us, they want us to give to them that which we earn. And they can't figure out why box office keeps dropping with adults.
I am beginning to get the impression that the far left are the masters of self projection. Anything they accuse others of doing or being is really just a projection of the negative aspects of their own personality that they hate and are constantly having to suppress. Its the sort of thing that results when you base most of your political philosophy and decision making processes on emotional reactions and not logic and reason.
LOL… thanks I needed a laugh John. I wonder how many of your little leftard friends remember the very real environmental damage caused to DC in the aftermath of Obama's Love In//Inauguration. Where tons and tons of NON recyclables were dumped and left for someone else to pick up. Not to mention his after election parties, it was a mess.
Funny at my Tea Parties, we were asked nicely to look around and if we see any trash pick it up and dump it properly. There wasn't any trash, unlike leftards we know how to use a garbage can/recycling bin.
Yeah let's all pretend that 90% of the people out there weren't conservative and Republican, that's pretty productive thinking
Lots of neocons came to our antiwar protests too, believe me
Madelyn, I lived your same story from 1996-2004. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but after the Democratic party tried to convince me that John Kerry was presidential material and all I saw was a entitled gold-diggin, hella awkward, New England nobleman with no convictions…
then I started following how the major media outlets approached the elections and saw what you saw. Democrats were all style and no substance (or reason).
This led me to talk radio and the discovery that objective logic = conservatism.
This got me thinking "what would the British Nobility have 'tweeted' during the original Boston Tea Party"
I'd guess similar sentiments
"Oh, those silly barbaric colonialists, don' they know that the taxes are for their own good?"
"Just like those uncivilized colonials with low collars and sun-reddened necks, dumping perfectly good Earl Grey in the harbour. I say, THEY have no appreciation for the finer things, indeed!"
"Stupid Yanks! Luckily, they'll never be intelligent enough to govern themselves! BTW, David Garrick Rox! I'd totally loosen my bodice for him. LOL!"
My thoughts exactly…Lets get going. I am willing to donate my "tax cut" to a good prospect. I'd even spend my vacation knocking on doors. How do we get this going??
I think it's very important that people involved in the tea parties make this clear and not let the GOP co-opt this. Libertarians played an important function, and while this is the first I've heard of involvement by Democrats, it should be encouraged.
Libertarians and Democrats who support the platform should be given speaking roles at upcoming events. The issues involved are much bigger than one party, or at least they should be.
The left voted for a guy who's a one liner with no substance.
Liberals don't think for themselves. That's why they all sound alike and nearly the exact same talking points. Look at Miles above, he's no different. Just another liberal pamphlet reader. Nothing new there. Please move along.
I made 2 charitable donations today of $100 each and realized I probably just gave a larger % of my income away than Biden does. Pathetic!
I was frankly stunned to see the backlash here. I mean, ever since the 15th I've heard classmates saying, "Oh just another bunch of old rich guys getting together (many of them were neither old nor rich)," "funny how these stodgy conservatives refer to themselves as 'teabaggers' (no one at the party used that term)," etc. One kid today suggested all they needed was a little education on where the money was going and then they'd shut up! I tried to combat it a bit, but I'm just one man.
Welcome!
They only want to share OTHER peoples money.
Here's looking at you, Madelyn. To answer your question as to being the only person who never voted for Bush?…not trying to toot my own horn or anything, however I wrote an article published a few weeks ago here @ BH which you might enjoy…
http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/jarone/2009/03/...
No, you're not the only one… good to have you here. Take care.
I know here in ATL we had 2 huge groups of people with Gay Libertarian signs, and another with Gay Republican signs. Also there were quite a few people who had Democrat signs. There were Asians, and Hispanics, and Blacks in fairly good numbers. I guess they didn't get the memo from Miles that they weren't allowed to protest.
1) How about taking “tea party” passion and all of the tea and instead of dumping it give those in need something to drink?
This wasn't publicized very much, but many Tea Parties solicited food donations for local food banks, why? "We the People can take better care of others in need than a wasteful, demeaning, enslaving, counter-productive federal program.
The Tea Party I organized, approx 1600 attendees, took in SCADS of non-perishable food that was donated to a local Family Shelter. Some people brought two and three grocery bags full…not just the one item I asked for.
Ask them how they support themselves, where the money comes from and how.
"Environmentalists" complained regarding the first round of Tea Parties so the participants DID NOT "dump tea" anywhere but acted symbolically instead. Someone complained to some town/city official in the Midwest about "tea being dumped to pollute our waters" so discarding any tea was then abandoned by the Tea Party movement inorder to be considerate of the potential for Leftwing attacks about "tea dumping."
NOW some Liberal is complaining that tea was NOT "redistributed" somehow? Proves yet again for the zillionth time how out of touch with reality most people are who are Liberals. They'll complain about anything that isn't their idea nor some aspect of their acceptable trends.
"Hope" and "Change" aren't even one-liners. They are just single words.
"Hope" and "Change" aren't even one-liners. They are just single words.
Yeah, what was that cleanup bill for the Washington Mall after Obama's Inauguration? 9 Million or something? Just to sweep up and cart off all the crud the Leftwing dumped there without consideration for anyone else?
After the Tea Party protests, contrary to that, there was nary a cup or bit of trash otherwise left on the streets.
"They’re not overly good at sharing."
If it's mandatory, it's not sharing.
All those wealthy people in entertainment and those they support in secondary positions…have ANY of them EVER written larger checks to the Tax Man than they were required to write? Yet they continue to harass others to be "sharing" and "paying more" — I strongly doubt ANY of them would or will ever decide to add three zeroes to their checks before they mail them off (or, rather, "have them mailed").
Or Obama or Joe Biden, perhaps. George Bush, when earning less than either of those two, gave a higher percentage (much higher percentage) of his income to charity.
Both Biden and Obama have been particularly stingy, actually, as to the very meager amounts they've directed toward charity.
Thanks Jimmy. Just read your post (I come here often, but missed it) and it was great.
PS-I'm Irish/Italian too.
I have thought this for years, and I couldn't have framed it better. Well said. It takes genuine empathy to look at things from another person's point of view: to step outside of your own habits and really examine different circumstances, experiences and backgrounds. I've concluded that a lack of real empathy is prerequisite to being a liberal today. At its best, liberalism is based on a me-centric, childish notion of compassion that falls apart the minute it is applied to any social unit larger than a family. It is a "surface compassion" informed not by real empathy/understanding of others' self-interest, but by the imposition (or projection) of ones own idea of "self-interest" onto others. "Do unto others…" is the Golden Rule, but it requires zero empathy, listening and true understanding. The projection in their accusations is of a piece with the projection in their brand of compassion: symptoms of a constitutional inability to see things from any other point of view than their own.

So you admit that your side acted completely stupid during the Bush years. That's one step in the right direction.
I just have to say that all of the tea party protests were far classier than any protests thrown by the left. No nudity, no ridiculous shenanigans, no bizarre gestures…just people coming together to protest.
Senator Dodd is easy pickings right now. 5 donors for $4000 last month from his own state. Someone seems to be upset with him for some reason.
You have awakened the history buff in me. Beware:
"Don't those ignorant peasants know we saved them from being French? Someone has to pay for that!"
Thanks for that info…would you have a link to a news report that mentions that…..whoops, it early in the morning, and I'm still waking up, and forgot that these peaceful protests were not "newsworthy".
Thanks though.
I have a friend, a Liberal (Big L) friend, who mentioned to me that paying taxes is part of every Americans 'job' as a patriot. Instead of debating this point, I made sure to agree wholeheartedly. My friend was a little surprised at this, as I usually rant against higher, or more, taxes. When she asked me why I was suddenly on board with taxes, I told her I don't mind funding the wars we are in – our troops need our support, and I'm willing to do my part to support them. She stood stunned for a moment. I gave her a quick hug, and thanked her for helping to pay for the war as well.
I haven't heard from her in almost a month now.
And, damned if the sun isn't a little brighter, the sky a little bluer and the bird songs a little more melodic.
A couple of things here- first of all, Obambots are fiercely loyal and will be for some time. It isn't until their lives are negatively impacted that they will smell the coffee. The 'teabagger' thing is sophomoric potty humor that gas always defined the left; it's a way of putting something down without intellectualizing the debate. No, even with a sea change of resentment against this huge leftist intrusion in our lives there wil be those who will BBFE (blame Bush for everything) forever because their guy is 'perfect'…
John, just very curious: how old are those twits tweets whatever that wrote those craptastic lines? I'd like to retain some faith in humanity
Makes sense. After all, these college student know-it-alls are there because of government largesse in the form of student loans, so naturally they would support taxation from the people actually out making a living–who made up the bulk of the tax protestors. It's all about economic determinism, says Marx.
Yes, I saw some polling, it's early but very negitive for the ol' frat boy. Losing Dodd and Kennedy will be the best thing to happen in the Senate in a long time. Two of a kind from a tired template of born rich, entitled and liberal. They practice philanthropy with tax payer money. Disgusting. Kind of like Biden, he makes a couple of hundred thousand last year and reports $1900. in charitable contributions. Cheap skate hypocrite with hair plugs.
Full scale oposition research should going on NOW! Dirt, inuendo, rumors, the whole ball of wax. The GOP always plays nice and still gets urinated on by the press, screw 'em. Plow forward, dig the dirt, buy ads and shine the bright light of publicity on the criminals. Maxine Waters' husband is profiting from the bank bailouts, MAKE AN AD! Fienstein's hubby is getting RICHER on taxpayer $$$, expose it fully. If the dragnet snares a few Republicans, so be it. Total disclosure NOW. The people that stand to get the richest from this massive tidal wave of TAX PAYER CASH are the family and friends of the politicians that passed the legislation. Go after Snow,Collins and Spector…they have betrayed the party. Boot them or at least neuter them.
everything you advocate is already happening. A couple of points- the GOP doesn't play as nice as you think, nor do the Dems play as nice as they profess. It is a dirty business, and since they have the MSM in their hip pocket it's a huge advantage… McCain was a poor candidate; it wasn't his 'clean' campaign that lost him the election, and if he didn't have Sarah he'd of lost by 10-12 points, not 7. Spector is pretty much done. He will not win his primary. Collins and Snowe are worthless unless conservatives take power, and they'd only be replaced by the same. New England has shifted far to the left and it would take a sea change to affect that. Anyway, the fight is on…
