Rebels with a Cause: Are Conservatives Cool Again?
by John Scott LewinskiI took a tour of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on a recent Saturday afternoon, visiting the graves of several entertainment legends. One of the more recent additions to the grounds is the cenotaph for original punk rocker, Johnny Ramone.

Ramone’s remains are not on the property, but the rock legend’s family and fans wanted a memorial on the well-trafficked grounds amongst other varied legends like Cecil B. DeMille, Vampira, John Huston and Jayne Mansfield.
As I admired the life-size marble statue, the friendly tour guide standing nearby said in passing, “He was a huge Republican, you know.” (And he was. He once praised George W. Bush at an awards show, and you’d have thought he relieved himself on the podium.)
RIght on cue, for most of the assembled Hollywood crowd joining me on the tour, that tour guide might just have well said, “He ate babies alive, you know — while their families watched.”
But one woman didn’t scoff or suck in a horrified breath. She shrugged and said, “It’s the only way to be cool now.”
Could that be true? For so many years, Republicans and conservatives were the polar opposite of hip. They were supposed to be the uptight, sour-faced types in buttoned-down suits and sensible shoes. They were “The Man” in movies, pitted against the innocent hippie crowd battling their corporate hassles. Conservatives were the totalitarian Empire sending its Stormtroopers against the freedom-loving Rebellion while the Death Star crept ever closer.
Has the resurgence of progressives in Hollywood and Washington made left-leaning politics so common and ever-present in the media that they lost their cool counter-culture cache? It would seem very difficult for progressives in positions of power on Sunset Boulevard and on Capitol Hill to “fight The Man” when they are “The Man.” When you’re making the rules, you can’t also be the roguish, freedom-loving pirates breaking them at the same time. And, you can’t mock Stepford Wives-ish waves of blind political obedience when it’s your own side of the aisle who sold its soul to a messiah.
Since every formation of a power block forms a vacuum awaiting a countering force, it’s only natural that the Right take on a more risky and rebellious attitude. They are the loyal opposition, and anyone who enjoys questioning common wisdom or tilting at the windmills of woolly thinking should be naturally attracted to the role of a conservative exile.
The more cultish and unquestioning the religious fervor for President Obama becomes, the more naturally inquisitive people will become uncomfortable with the resulting knee-jerk groupthink of his followers.
And, as the hard Left becomes more Draconian — using its current power base to push political correctness, global warming policies and other freedom-trampling pet causes without fear of voter reprisal for at least two years — it’ll only add to the number of rebels willing to question the value of such policies.
To steal just one more Star Wars reference, “The more the Left tightens its fist, the more questioning minds will slip through its fingers.”

If you have to ask if something's cool, the answer is usually no.
Ann Coulter is a Deadhead.
I've said it a million times and I'll say it a million more: the American conservative movement is a revolutionary ideology that threatens all tyrants, totalitarian regimes and American liberals.
Hell yeah! My conservative views get me way more tail in this town than any other "Peeeace" loving freak!
I beg to differ. It is only when people like liberals think they're hip and cool when they are actually not any longer. Checks and balances of human nature, and so the pendulum begins to swing right.
My Favorite Johnny Ramone memory is talking to him in the street in front of SIR Studios in NYC. He was on his 10 speed bike listening to the Yankee Game on a transistor radio. We were talking baseball and he couldn't haved been cooler or nicer. Rest Johnny.
I have long thought this. Rock music was anti establishment, but now the liberals have won. Considering most musicians are liberal, I don't expect to see a sudden change in politics. But there will be decline in the quality of music, as most of it will be happy go lucky dance trash.
Most of the, "Gramps with amps," are lib/progs. It's natural for the kids to oppose them politically,
Coulter is very cool and very hip in private; even the worthless one Bill Maher is quite smitten with her…
Jonny Ramone said "God bless George Bush" at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame acceptance speech.
He was very independent and I think he was more of a Libertarian than any thing else.
Great band, great songs. Great guy.
When, pray tell have conservatives NOT been cool? Wait, don't answer that. God Bless Johnny Ramone.
PJ O'Rourke: No woman ever dreams of being tied down and ravished by a liberal.
Johnny also said, "I think Ronald Reagan was the best President of my lifetime." This was evident at least in the mid-Eighties: when the band released the UK single "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg/Go Home Ann" in 1986, he pressed for a name change, finding it insulting to Reagan, and the song was retitled on American releases to "My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes to Bitburg)".
Maybe it is because you refer to women as "Tail" that really draws them in. I know it sends a thrill up my leg.
I think you're right, Mr. Lewinski, and it's one of the things that's keeping me going right now.
There was a hilarious article recently — in one of the Boston papers, I think — where a woman was lamenting that younger women are now changing their names when they get married. She thinks that she and her generation were the rebellious ones, so how can these young women be rebelling against rebellion? I wrote and told her, "Guess what? You're the establishment now."
Well, no. But let's play a fun game. Watch the next Republican convention, memorize the crowd shots, and get back to me. Thanks.
Am I the only person who knows that Punk Rock was in response to the Hippies of the 60s and 70s and the vacuous, empty crap that culminated in the form of Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd?
The Sex Pistols were an answer to all that crap. What followed was the timid voice of New Wave a la bands like Joy Division, bands that were artsy, SP wasn't artsy, it was pissed off. The two can and usually are exclusive.
So no duh, you'd find one of the ORIGINAL voices of punk rock a conservative. Not the Dead Kennedies, nor the flaky Black Flag, crap that reeked of California Hippie kids rebelling against mom and dad but carrying their baggage. (Sorry Andrew B. nothing against you.)
To REALLY be in it for Freedom means something that the left can't get.
Republicans, they may be geeky, but Conservatives?
They're the true rebels, just like the guys who started the U.S.A.; not the peace-loving liberals who would've voted aginst war with Britain in 1776, had they existed then.
Hey John, Welcome to Big Hollywood.
I must say lookin' at your picture you've got quite the mug there.
I believe there's a great movie to be made about the relationship between Johnny and Joey Ramone, maybe you could give it a shot? The man was very cool and a true rock original. God bless him.
And while on the subject of cool, let's not forget my bad boy brother from Beantown, Joe Perry of Aerosmith.
Rock on.
what's wrong with zep?
other than that, yeah I agree, the ramones were true originals and it's unfortunate that they are gone now, the music industry is dead
No. Conservatives will never be cool.
Cool is doing your own thing, finding you're own groove and sticking to it. Cool is being comfortable with yourself. Conservatives are just that -conservative. They are not about taking risks, moving forward or being dynamic. Conservatism may be popular but it will never be 'cool'
just because the Left is 'the establishment' doesn't automatically make you cool. Try a bit harder.
Friggin hilarious. Some dweeb posting as "cjenk" say conservatives will never be cool.
A sneer from Clint Eastwood is cooler than your lifetime, dumbasaurus.
I won't date a liberal; drives 'em even nuttier than they already are.
Who do you want to be with in a crisis, Bruce Willis, or Bill Maher?
Pfft.
Squares are cool! I dig it! Now the uncool is cool. How cool!
Actually, you all should watch the cooler. Being the cooler is not cool, unless you are working for the casino. So, I guess, I agree. Conservatives are coolers. Dat rite.
Um, yeah, way to judge people by their outward appearance. Not very liberal, ya hypocrite.
By the way, I used to work @ the LA Weekly. A friend of mine( a writer) who had just gotten back from DC told me that the best parties were the ones thrown by the Republicans. She said the Dem parties were dreary and dull.
True.
I win. Yer an idiot.
Thanks
Exactly right. Thanks
In general, the left are the ones trying too hard. It's a poseur cool. Easy cool is on the right.
Fact.
Obama ain't cool. He's a dork. Have you seen the footage of him throwing out the first pitch at a White Sox game? He throws like a girl ( sorry ladies. you know what I meant).
Bush . World Series, post 9/11…..STRIKE ONE!!
That's cool
Ahh, Gary, Much better, I suppose, to judge them by their parties. How rock and roll of you.
Am I cool or not? I frankly don't give a fiddly frack. I do what I want to do, not mimic the countless Obama- and Earth-worshipping drones in the hive of cubicles in which I work. I've never seen conservatives march in lockstep like my liberal friends, who are scared stiff of whispering a phrase that may, just may, denigrate a desinated minority victim. Conservatism is cool (or kewl, as some say).
Conservatives don't take risks? Glad to know cjenk is the arbiter. Maybe she could be Obie's Stereotype Czar.
Way to purposely misread it.
You're consistent.
I hope not. Being conservative is not about being cool. It's about doing the right thing.
……which is cool
Oh God I know. Liberals are such dorks, and they are so ungrateful to be Americans. I used to be one of them, and then i got a job in a kitchen where everyone I work with is from some horrifying country where unspeakable violence occurs, and they all escaped and are now in the U.S. Now every day I thank God I was born in the U.S. and am a woman living in this time in history as an American woman. The Obots are just whiners. I can't bear them. I love being a conservative, it's so empowering. It means taking responsibility for your life. Which is very cool. My liberal friends are all so deranged by how much they hate Republicans. I fear they are mentally ill. And they seem so unhappy. And they are far too old to be acting that way.
I was lucky enough to have a fleeting encounter with her. She couldn't have been more gracious and cool.
She signed an autograph for my 8 year old daughter.
Very cool chick….except for the being a Deadhead thing. I hate the Dead
Your post proved my point.
The whole left are trying to be cool? Come on.
It's a silly question anyway because cool is such a subjective self defeating concept. Once something is cool it is no longer cool.
And I'd say Obama is a different kind of cool to Bush. He listens and understands Hip-Hop and uses Apple products
Bush didn't even know what was on his I-pod.
Oh man, that last paragraph is a hoot.
Ooh, he uses Apple products and is"down "with hip hop.
Apple products..hahahahahahaha. Wow.
To me that means he's just your basic middle class dork, trying too hard to be hip.
Squares come in all colors and Obama is a square.
Apple products….oh man.
….still laughing
We went over this before on another article about punk. Though it's good to bring it up again because it drives liberals crazy, and a good number of real punk rockers (I could determine who they were from their screen names or stories) agreed. I don't think we established that Republican is punk…but it sure as hell isn't liberalism. Jared and Gary had my favorite combined quote…it's cool for not being cool. I love the libertarian tinged conservatism I see around me because it's the most radical, human, humane, liberal (it is if you think about it), self confident, lest racist, most protective of the weak, KICK ASS philosophy you can find on the history of this planet.
Cool is being comfortable with yourself and your believes when challenged, not throwing trantrums and discredit the opponents instead of the ideas.
GET REAL!!! Of course conservatives are kool and liberals are definitely not. Look at the hypocrite intolerant libs, they are a bunch of spineless dorks who probably all had their lunch money stolen at 2nd grade recess. Libs gaining power has pretty much been the revenge of the nerds or something. Bunch of wussy pansies and wussy pansies are NOT kool.
Good point. Except nerds getting revenge is always cool – did you see the movie!!! I'm sure I'm somewhat of a nerd myself. But unfortunately liberals take the worst of the nerd world and try to foist it on the rest of us: pushing their haywire science project gone wrong on us (Al Gore), inappropriate lectures during parties (the Oscars) and generally acting like Debbie Downer, Rachel Dratch's SNL character who is a very negative type of nerd.
Bush was so cool he had TWO internets. Take that beatches!!!!
BTW – Rush Limbaugh is a big Apple Computer fan…for years. So he's much cooler than Obama.
Cool is saying what you believe and not caring if anyone agrees with you. Then there's Hollywood cool. Hollywood cool is saying something presumably hip and outrageous but only saying it before an audience of people who feel the exact same way. That's not cool; that's lame.
http://the100mostannoyingthings.blogspot.com/
The response to hippies happened even in the sixties. Check out this video from "The Seeds" from the Mother In law TV show with Eve Arden and Kaye Ballard. I'm sure Johnny and others like him(me!!!) were watching and laughing their young asses off.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_E90fMh3hE
Lol. Liberal men are scared little girls: not cool in a "male". Liberal women are men in drag: very limited appeal. I guess that's why there's the constant liberal mental masturbation when looking at Obama.
Liberal ideas are tired, and damaging to the psyche. Anti-liberal ideas are pro-individual, pro-freedom, invigorating.
Vigor scares liberals. Vapid is their thing.
Johnny Ramone was a self-procailmed Goldwater Republican and pretty much invented the 70s punk rock guitar style (just ask The Sex Pistols). Joey Ramone was a soft-hearted (John F.) Kennedy Democrat with a true love for great rock & roll songwriting. Together they made musical history. And contrary to 'dragonash' above…both of them idolized Sky Saxon & The Seeds. Where do you think those 1966 Sunset Strip hairstyles came from in early-1970s Forest Hills, NY?
I meant laughing their asses off in a good way, my friend.
ditto Gary – "He listens and understands hip-hop and uses apple products" Ha!!! I can only hope that I can someday be as cool as that. To not just listen to, but to understand hip-hop. That's true cool. And to do it all on an Ipod. What a hip cat.
Yeah man seriously….
Always shambling around trying to eat fresh brains. Moaning through the ENTIRE night so you can't sleep. It's just ridiculo……
Oh….OH………….you meant the band. My mistake.
Well that's cool that Conservatives are suddenly cool.
Not sure who defines cool.
But that means the sitcom I am working on to shoot in Detroit (yes Detroit) is going to be cool. A Conservative Christian, family-oriented sitcom no less.
That alone will be enough to have be branded a radical in Hollywood.
Other counter-moonbats in rock and roll: Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper.
Forget about cool. We may very well be cool at the moment, but that, by definition, is fleeting.
The fact is, conservatives have never been hip or popular, especially with the yewts, but at the end of the day, who cares? I'd rather be right than cool.
Sorry, my bad. I thought you were suggesting that the superior GOP parties — harp seal toss!! — had something to do with Arlen Spector being cooler than Nancy Pelosi.
Actually, we're both wrong. Any time someone suggests the group he belongs to is cool? (I'm talking to you, Lewinsky) Well. Cool's well out of reach.
Hmm. I'd say that if your first instinct in a crisis is to try to decide which celebrity will help you the most?
You're in deeper trouble than you think.
I was going to say that…..
Yeah, I left the door open.
Solid work
Actually, you're sorta missing the point. Because Obama belongs to the coolest group of them all, the Cool Nerds. Jobs, Gates, Wozniak, Bezos, Brin, and Schmidt. It's their world, son. We're just living in it. The only thing they didn't have was one of theirs in the White House. Now they do.
And Bush is Frat Boy Cool. Which is cool, but…
Bingo
Yeah, right, whatever. Anyone who knows me knows I made a career out of going my own way, and that way I developed my own views. Funny thing how my views happen to be conservative when I happened to bother matching them up with politics. I'm comfortable being a voice alone. Any conservative pretty much has to be in plenty of situations these days. Certainly I have to be at work since I'm in publishing. So, if "cool" is finding your own groove and sticking to it, then I'm glad I qualify.
Not my best work, but I'm always up for a good Zombie joke.
Freedom is cool! Servitude is un-cool! A true original always breaks the chains of conformity. This is counter to any collective mind think, right or left.
it is kind of a chick thing… being all twirly and all. No self respecting male is a deadhead unless your life IS hallucinogenics and you need a soundtrack for it; I saw them (this dates me) on their best tour ever- 'Europe 72' and it bored the bejeebus out of me- fortunately the next day I saw Thin Lizzy for the first time and all was good…
I don't need cool.
I belong to me, (at least until PBHO's posse comitatus government employees try coming for me, Satan take them).
I determine my life. Not PBHO and his sycophants. I resist. I reject. I disavow. I will push up into the obsequious toadie's face and scream my liberty. "STFU!!, scrotum boy! I direct me!"
Mandela is a tool, but the idea is sound. My mind is free, even when you imprison my body. My life is MINE!
UNDERLING has the truth. I don't need a label. Libs need labels, so they can be told who to love, or who to hate. I choose, in my world, what I do or don't do, not a committee process, politically-correct, elitist lib. Including my music. And hey, Julia NYC, keep the POWER to direct your life; don't let ANYONE take it from you.
Hey, maybe if the Republican party had some sort of avant-garde, beyond cutting edge, hip-hop makeover, it'd be all set.
Oh, wait. Wait. I get it. It's a joke! Wait, it's not? Damn.
yeah, the Romance novels show manly men doing manly things, don't they? It's certainly been my (ahem) experience…
Nothing wrong with being a geek….case in point:
The Empire was CLEARLY liberal-fascist, man! Let's see:
— the Emperor dissolved the Galactic Senate (all good republics must have one), instead giving control over to the Moffs, which were his own lackeys.
— the stormtroopers were analogies of the Nazi stormtroopers (down to the snow gear in The Empire Strikes Back).
— it takes followers of an "outdated"-yet-true religion (Christianity anyone?) to overcome the established evil government.
— family values (Vader helping Luke, wanting to say hi to Leia) reign in the end.
— oh, and a precious few (Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, the droids, Lando, Wedge) are the ones responsible for overcoming big government.
Obviously I'm not that concerned with being cool….Christians who believe firmly in the Bible will never be considered cool by Man anyway
I agree.
I do what I do, and I believe in what I believe in, and I don't give a rat's fat one what anyone else thinks.
Call it cool? Fine. Call it uncool? Fine. Makes no difference to me.
We conservatives never stopped being cool. If you look at liberals what is their schtick? All their ideas are unchanged since FDR's 1932. They still slobber on about FDR for that matter. And in the next breath they tell you how "progressive" they are. We conservatives are the ones with the progressive new ideas. It is just that the government never really kills a program so our ideas are locked out awaiting the arrival of the concept of "open source" in government.
Bush was not a conservative if that is why you are confused …….
cjenk and harley….you have been powned.
Conservativism has actually ALWAYS been cool. When you break it down to the simple fact that being a conservative is all about being free, being left alone by the nanny government, taking personal responsibility, and judging everything and everyone by actions and deeds and nothing else. Liberalism is about collectivism, about being told what to do, about creating a big government to make your decisions for you, and judging people based on skin color, sexual preference, and victim status. Conservatives say what they think and mean what they say, Liberals say what they think others want to hear, and do what they tell others not to do. It's that simple. This is why I enjoy wearing shirts that lampoon Liberal Ideals, why I put bumperstickers on my car that aggravate Liberals, and talk politics in the gym or where ever I am with a clear voice and without regard for who may be listening. What aggravates me is how many conservatives are horrified by those things themselves. They are too busy worrying about what others will think. So is it cool? Yes Conservativism IS cool, but not until Conservatives allow themselves to act the part of a Rebel.
Bill Maher, obviously. "Take him, not me!!!"
There is absolutely nothing sexier than a manly man with deep convictions. I've always found guys in suits are the most crazy outta them – sloppy liberal men spend too much time hating and whining and not enough time bathing. I'm just sayin…..
I've done plenty of psychedelics in my life, but NEVER got the Grateful Dead. I've always been a Little Feat guy.
Powned? Heh. Finallly, the WoW perspective. Quest on, Dude!
You know one thing that's universally cool, in Hollywood and everywhere else, CamS? Work. Working is cool. Glad you have a job, but be careful when Michigan's film incentive fund runs out of $. Then the jobs will leave Detroit. And that ain't cool.
I'm guessing it's because liberal men don't know how. Must be all that "sensitivity".
Thin Lizzy. Wow. Now if ever there was an example of cool, it was Phil Lynott. I'm proud to share my first name with him.
"When, pray tell have conservatives NOT been cool?"
Well, there are the shorty short haircuts and boring clothing.
Being a long haired, goatee wearing and ear pierced conservative, I have found myself in situations at parties where libs would be moaning about how Bush was ruining the country, blah de effing blah. Of course looking the way I do, they assume I will fall in lockstep, at which point I say, "Um, I beg to differ…", and then proceed to challenge everything they just said.
The reaction always seemed to me like a hand grenade just went off in their midst. Yeah, that's what I am. A conservative hand grenade.
harley, one thing I noticed about you in your response to Skip's post and your responses to other posts in general, is that you usually miss the point by a mile. Must be a nice breeze on your head, what with stuff constantly sailing over it and all.
"None of that free hippie love s#*t here."
Wow, thanks Phil. Artful metaphor, and an insightful critique at the same time. I will do what I can to meet your lofty standards in the future. Thanks again!
I think he praised Bush at the ceremony where the Ramones were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Thanks for pointing that out! It wasn't just ANY awards ceremony, and that makes it cooler.
Europe 72 album is all about China Cat to Know You Rider. The Dead were kings of transition jams where everything goes all acidy unraveled and then regroups with a semblance of purpose. Like throwing you out to the chaos and reeling you back in.
Yeah, my band is three fifths liberal. My wife and I make up the other two fifths. It's weird sometimes, but I revel in it.
Too bad the moderators didn't allow my topical and funny alternate take on this comment. Oh well.
Lofty standards? Wow dude , you a product of the LAUSD?
The punk movement started in 70's England when the lefty-Labour Party was in power. Listen to Johnny Rotten in many a documentary where he stattes that was the environment where NO FUTURE came from
Heh. Sorry. Ferris High School in Spokane, Washington. Dude.
"In general, the left are the ones trying too hard. It's a poseur cool. Easy cool is on the right."
Exactly, Gary. Exactly. When you try to be cool, you've already failed. When you're comfortable in your own skin and couldn't care less about looking cool, you're cool. Once again it goes down to the difference between liberals and conservatives. Liberals tend to be concerned with whether they'll be liked, so they glom onto every cause under the sun. They're more ego-driven than purpose-driven. Nothing commands more respect than a person with an admirable purpose. And hey, cjenk, since when is liberating a nation from tyranny not considered risk-taking or moving forward? Find some new bigoted cliches to peddle.
Progressivism = regressivism
What do you call zombies in a blender?
How do you tell if a zombie is tired?
Oh … you wanted "Good" Zombie jokes … guessing that leaves out Obama Zombies. They are a joke, but not a good one.
Obama uses Apple products…..still laughing
My band is the new conservative. It's what we like to call "Bible Thumping Prog Rock". That's right, we see bible thumping not as a negative.
http://www.reverbnation.com/saveyournation
Uhm. Okay. Does your Kaypro make you giggle?
Explain how we were pwned?…..
Whatever, Phil's right.
Cam, what defines cool is not really caring if anyone thinks you're cool. Reagan personified this, and that's what drove the New York Times and the pollsters crazy.
And that's what makes you cool, Daddy-O.
It's all subjective, isn't it?
Lynyrd Skynyrd said it best: “I've seen a lot of people who thought they were cool; But then again, Lord, I've seen a lot of fools.”
Okay. As you seem to be keeping an eye on me, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know when I miss the point in the future. At least that way the tail-gating will be beneficial. Thanks in advance.
Noone has to pay particularly close attention to you , hardly. You're really not hard to miss.
( BTW, you know why I keep an eye on you. You're a doucebag.)
"I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know when I miss the point in the future. "
Um, that'd be every time, hardly. Try to keep up.
You're welcome.
Okay. In order.
Noone? Like Peter Noone from Herman's Hermits? How is he involved in this?
Douchebag, not doucebag. If you're gonna toss insults, spelling counts.
Your welcome.
Damn it, I was THIS close.
"You're" welcome. Because like I said, spelling counts.
Good work. You finally did it.
Now if you could only do the same when it came to the actual issues……..
Dork
It is hard to talk about the Man when he is You. It's about time Conservatives realized that they are the revolutionary mindset. Now they have to step up and make that revolution happen. I do my part everyday with my art and blog. I hope everyone here will be inspired to use their talents to fight back as well. I hope some of you can make it to the Tea Party tomorrow. I will be at the Atlanta rally.
If any of you are interested in Conservative political art, check out http://www.machinepolitick.com. My friend Alvaro is also very talented. He and his wife have work up at Studioartservices.com. You may recognize his video from an article on Big Hollywood a couple of weeks ago. Good luck everyone, and get fired up.
—-I took a tour of the Hollywood Forever Cemetery ……—-
It's a beautiful peaceful place; my grandfather and about half a dozen other relatives are buried there [Russian/Jewish section]. J. Ramone's memorial is very cool; I'll definitely take a look next time I'm there.
Dude – I got the reply – work on your delivery, maybe? Sorry, tough time laughing at it, though I do appreciate the attempt.
But in my live-free-or-die defiance I ask, no I say to you: Punk was nihilistic and the Beatles, Zep, Byrds, Cream, and For God's sake Simon and Garfunkel???SIMON AND GARFUNKEL aren't nihilistic?? No, I think the funniest thing about '60s psuedo rock (Led Zepplin's formula? Rip off Muddy Waters and Leadbelly and call it yours; I am from Chicago, so don't try to fool me Mr.'s Plant and Page) was "Spinal Tap," brought to you by most of the same folks who gave us the satire on Folk singers like S&G, anything named Guthrie and Dylan in a funny movie called, "A mighty Wind."
Punk Rocked, the music you referred to became overly-self indulgent and narcissistic a la Yoko Ono and died like her shrieking harpy-like gacking.
Her artsy fartsy approach to rock gave us….Joy Division, which was anything but fun.
Which makes me ask another question: why do liberals viscerally hate anything fun?
Wow – so who takes risks to fight for your freedom? Liberals? Nope.
Who takes risk with their fortunes to employ others? Liberals? Nope, they take other people's money.
Who moves forward with progress in industry? Liberals? Nope, they're busy whining about the environment, and not producing anything.
Dynamic? What the hell does that mean? Another vacuous word that you cannot put into meaning because, liberals, have never had the ability to make anything meaningful. No, repeating your Bolshevik mantra doesn't count either, no matter how many people you jack into the Gulag.
The left was never cool, it was a farce.
—
It would seem very difficult for progressives in positions of power on Sunset Boulevard and on Capitol Hill to “fight The Man” when they are “The Man.”
—
Reminds me of this Sprint commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG-VB5xb6KM
Conservative are the revolutionaries? LOLOL
Conservatives are discovering what is groovy 45 years after it was discovered by the left. Don't you think you are really on the verge of losing the race, falling so far behind that your position does not count?
Math Guy, ____Let me explain it to you. ____Liberals own capitol Hill (Power [P] X2) and the White House (Executive Power [EP]) and the Movie, music and TV industries (IND X3) + the former Bankers down all Wall Street all voted for Obama ($ X NY/NJ/CT). How the hell can you be a rebel when you own everything?____(P X 2 + EP) + (IND X 3) * ($ * NY/NJ/CT)____Liberals are THE MAN. Suck it!
Hmm. Given that list, at what point do conservatives become more accurately described as 'losers' than 'rebels.'
There is, you know, a difference.
Right, Daddy. I remember an old expression, "playin' it cool, actin' the fool," but that was riduculing affectations. True cools don't care if they cool or not, so by not being cool they're…never mind.
The question is: do we even want to be cool? I don't. I thoroughly enjoy being thought of as "uncool" by those who usually determine what "coolness" is.
Uh….no.
No question, maatkare For now all looks good. Soon the honchos in Gov't will decide that handing over the dough ain't cutting it anymore.
But right now the thought process is that "Hollywood East" as some are wont to call it right now, is the answer for the potential closure of the Big 3.
Actually, I don't have a job…trying to create my own and for a cast and crew.
Cuneo: outstanding point.
Guess a lot of us here have been ahead of the curve for a long time then.
Because I have cared one iota crap for years what anybody thinks.
That was considered "cool" by my liberal friends when I was in fact a liberal as well.
But then I grew up. And growing up is cool if you let it happen. I await some of my now ex-friends (by their choice…they can't hang with a neo-con after all) to someday grow up. With most of them past 50 I don't hold out much hope.
But that's cool.
First, lets get one thing clear. Dubya was not a conservative by any stretch of the imagination. The only thing he did that could arguably be called "conservative" was lower taxes a tiny bit. JFK was far more conservative than Dubya. Bush ushered in an era of government growth that would have made Castro proud. Please stop using Republican and Conservative in the same sentence.
However, "true" conservatives – meaning those of us who believe in limited government – have always been cool. The Left USED to believe in that, but now embrace big, bloated intrusive government in a way that would have made their younger selves gasp in disbelief. They wanted to "stick it to the man" until they became the man. True conservatives realize that you always have to be careful of "the man" including your own inner one.
"I will do what I can to meet your lofty standards in the future."
The trouble with you is you can *never* reach my lofty standards, sort of like the little engine that couldn't. Call it a limitation, a defect or if you like, a shortcoming. Hell, you're probably chock full of 'em anyway. Either way, my original point about you stands. Or did you miss that one too?
Oh, great image. Thanks for that.
