Why Obama’s Teleprompter Gaffe Tape Matters
by John RomanoWhen George W. Bush was President, the Democrats and certain press outlets hammered every little mistake he made as evidence of him being “the dumbest President ever.” They did this not to hurt Bush, that was an awesome side benefit. The main intent was to cripple the GOP. It worked. This approach began with Nixon and Ford, but took a much-hated hiatus during the eighties, when Reagan turned the remaining southern Democrats into Republicans and created the last great party boom.
Alleging Bush’s supposed idiocy day after day was designed to put the idea in the head of the general populace that the GOP was inept. They decided to nominate Bush, the dumbest person in the world, how can they ever be trusted again?
Sarah Palin’s appeal to middle America almost derailed the whole thing. The media took care of her in short order by portraying her as, you guessed it, dumb. Obama is now our President. The plan was a masterpiece.
The GOP, in not fighting back forcefully enough, was played like a fiddle. The media is biased toward liberalism no doubt; however, I do remember seeing Bush, Cheney, Frist, et. al. on the Sunday talk shows for all eight years of the Bush presidency. The opportunity to fight was there. Blaming the media for the travails of today’s GOP is like former World Series champs blaming a bad season on the fact that the other teams had better training facilities.
This brings me to the teleprompter gaffe. As of this writing, the video of the event with President Obama and Brian Cowen has not been released. By some reports, the video shows that Obama oftentimes has no idea what is on that teleprompter before he reads it and therefore, as he did on St. Patrick’s Day, ends up doing things like thanking himself for inviting everyone to the White House. An endearing gaffe between two national leaders or President Obama sincerely thanking President Obama for inviting everyone to the White House? The fact that the video has been suppressed may be very telling.
Where is the media on this story? Where are the demands for the video? Of course one would expect the AP, CNN, MSNBC, and others to ignore or play down this story, but FOX News? Bill O’Reilly? Ingraham? Hannity? Even Rush Limbaugh glossed over this story today, treating it as a humorous piece instead of a hard news story.
Democrats would’ve added this story to the many deserved and undeserved images of GWB as dunce and Wolf Blitzer would’ve done a ten minute piece on it. Heck, David Shuster did a four minute segment last night on George Bush using the word “authoritarian” when “authoritative” was logically called for.
John McCain time and time again repudiated Republicans who went after Obama in the way the Democrats went after him. McCain lost. The only chance for a GOP comeback is to fight as nastily as the Democrats have fought and nastier if possible. A big if.
With EFCA, amnesty and the Rahm Emanuel Census Bureau coming down the pike, the GOP better take the gloves off or be prepared for permanent minority status. That wouldn’t be good for anyone, including the Democrats.
The GOP thinking it is above a street fight will relegate the party to history. Wake up.

I'm ready for a street fight. That's why I defend Ann Coulter with every ounce of my being whenever someone says that she is abrasive and "doesn't do our cause any good."
I'll tell you what works: "He puts one of your guys in the hospital, you put one of his in the morgue." That's what works. That's what Ann Coulter does. And we should be training up more people just like her.

WHERE'S YER WAR FACE??? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
I'm with ya!
This is priceless. Very clever. Love it.
"The GOP thinking it is above a street fight will relegate the party to history. Wake up."
this is EXACTLY why i am a conservative first. we are NEVER above a street fight. bring it.
"John McCain time and time again repudiated Republicans who went after Obama in the way the Democrats went after him. McCain lost. The only chance for a GOP comeback is to fight as nastily as the Democrats have fought and nastier if possible. A big if."
John McCain infuriated me. His misplaced sense of fair play clearly cost him the election. One could argue, after looking at the national numbers, that if he maned-up, and did what he had to he could have easily won.
This impulse to be politically correct, to play by the liberals rules of conduct for non-liberals (because clearly they do not adhere to them themselves) does nothing but cripple. It emasculates truth, and forces people to detour around the obvious.
The GOP need not fight nasty in order to win. I believe in dignity and honor, but the GOP NEEDS TO FIGHT WITH PASSION, ELOQUENCE, AND TRUTH. If it is true SAY IT, and damn the consequences. Stand strong in your observations and beliefs. NEVER be bullied, but call out the bullies for all to see.
I hate weakness. Especially in my leaders. I would (almost) vote for any man who when called a racist on some bogus charge, looked into the camera at his accusers and said with a smile, "Nice try. Now, piss off." (Okay, maybe that is not the most dignified and eloquent response, but then again, I'm not running for office.)
Be men. Stand up. Know who you are. Do not apologize for your beliefs, and do not form your beliefs after sticking a wet finger in the wind. I want my leaders to LEAD.
If the GOP did that, they would win in a heartbeat. I am convinced.
To use CS Lewis' image, what we need is men WITH chests.
gave me the best laugh of the day. brilliant!
The media took care of her in short order by portraying her as, you guessed it, dumb.
Yep it was Teh EmEssEm that railroaded Palin into saying "Oil and coal? Of course, it's a fungible commodity and they don't flag, you know, the molecules, where it's going and where it's not."
Palin, the college grad who made an unsuccessful stab at something resembling journalism, then government. No wonder you sympathize.
I don't think we should aim for being meaner than Democrats.
1. I've seen the call for hyperpartisanship be a cover for lack of across the board conservatism. "If only we try very hard, we don't have to actually support the border fence, or actually do something about abortion." is the thought. If you don't start with Standard Conservatism, the engine is dead, and it doesn't matter how enthusiastically you pump the oars, the boat ain't going anywhere.
2. I don't think most Republicans can be as insane as a lot of Dems were. We lack the capacity. Instead we should aim to tell the truth with love and without fear.
3. Yes, please support Ann Coulter.
Romano,
Did you not see thepost from libbietard troll #232 on your last post on this topic.
The headlines to the AP Story state that Cowen made a mistake. He read the wrong story first. However, having actually written or rehearsed is speech he knew it was the wrong one after 20 seconds.
Sure there is some mention of Obama making a huge blunder and indicating by implicaton that he never writes or reads his own speeches. But really John. That is on like the third paragraph. Who has taken enough ADD combating drugs to be able to focus for that length of time. Please!
It it isn't in the first two paragraphs it does not exist. Now Remember:
Obama is DoublePlusGood Correct in all applicaitons of DoublePlusREcommended Party Control Citizen………..
Back before the election I "complained" on another blog (sorry) that McCain's TV ads were soooooo bland and boring, no fight in them, no inspiration, no "hey, follow me". I was told there were new ads coming, more forthright and stronger. Welll, I never saw any improvement.
And it feels the same today. Support who? Be strong for what?
Floundering. Oh, how much I hate that word.
Go F yourself, San Diego.
It comes down to the old adage, "Do you really want to win if you have to stoop to their level?" I have no problem making fun of Obama (as I talked about in the other post with that videogame) but some people do as they see it as beneath them. O'Reilly said as a matter of fact that he would not go after Obama in this means, he would not go out looking for "gotcha stuff." This is why we fail. Our respect for another human being will be the downfall in a battle against those that have no respect for conservative human beings.
I think, for the sake of the GOP and the conservative movement in general, we are going to have to force feed these things to the general public and make them see it. Someone needs to get a hold of this tape and put as many spins on it as possible. Combine it with the 57 states, walking into a window, bumping his head on the helicopter, etc… and then we all view it, comment on it, make it known that it exists, email it to friends, etc… The GOP is busy trying to come up with a valid policy, as they should be. It's up to us to carry the rest of the weight.
And she said she could see Russia from her house too!
What a brillaint response to nothing I said!
Bark louder, Writer_X !
Conservatives see political discourse as a civil process within a larger context of consent to the will of the voter. Leftists deeply resent even pretending to suffer this notion of politics, and envision only its annihilation. As a child of the Left I'm simply astounded how few conservatives understand the Left, even at this moment, and how few seem willing to take the simple step to acknowledge the evidence now swirling and wailing around them. This willful ignorance is nearly universal among politicians. The ignorance among the citizenry is even more shocking. I don't know if it's too late or not. But one cannot really fight — or hope to fight effectively — until one knows what one is fighting, and conservatives right now have no clue. I don't see the clues coming. Even those identified as leading lights among conservatives are playing the same mincing, cautious game, importuning paternal liberal media, nibbling at the edges, as if hoping someone else will take up the cause and do the dirty work. And I'm being charitable to assume they even know what that dirty work is.
The time may have come for conservatives to bolt the Republican party and form a conservative party. The RNC asks for money constantly and lavishes that money and its support on RINOs who vote with the Democrats more often than not. Biparticanship has come down to getting some Republicans to vote with their fellow Republicans. Don't forget that the Republican party was created as a third party in the 1850's when the Whig party no longer represented the goals of the party faithful. Let's clean our own house first.
Tennwriter, I don't think we (Republicans or conservatives) should become meaner than Democrats, but we should start standing up to them, especially the Republican party. The reason we listen to people like Ann Coulter or El Rushbo is the fact that they show backbone and stand up to the left, whereas the political right does not.
Exactly, no wussing out. Whom ever the McCain advisors were, they didn't have his best interest; and his daughter is being used like a tool. We need to hit back and HARD, by OUR own rules. We just need to change enough minds to win elections, for now.
You fellas are absolutely right. Its a dang conspiracy and the most important thing in the U.S. govt. when the President flubbs a 5 min speech for St. Patrick's Day. It don't mean nothing that he didn't write the thing and probably didn't see it until a few minutes before! How many times do I have to tell people that George W. Bush GREATEST LEADER SINCE AUGUSTUS wrote every single speech he ever made and he wrote hundreds and hundreds of them. And he didn't mess up a single line! No sir. He made people think he did but the only ones that thought he did were the Liberalcommunistatheistsocialistfascist terrorists! Am I right, fellas? To hell with everything else, Obama misspeaking is a national story!!! God Bless AMERICA!!!
"He brings a kinfe, you bring a gun"… yeah, as Sean said in his Oscar winning turn in "The Untouchables'.
The Chicago way indeed. As now voiced by Rahm Emanuel, no less… the question that begs to be asked:
Can you impeach a teleprompter?
Awesome.
Wrong. The actual quote was ""They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska." Tina Fey said she could see Russia from her house. Another attempt to change history to fit the left's needs.
… he pulls a knife you pull a gun. It's Kilvinsky's Law.
Sorry PaulD, that response above is to Brian Hines here. My bad.
Obama has two modes: plausible deniability and suppression. He employs both on a daily basis.

So, Rush Limbaugh is divorced, hates women, and his audience is men. Hmmm. Ssssounds Sssso Ssssan Franssssco to me!
I know, I wish I had thought of it.
No John, from all the crap that the press and libs pointed about Bush, almost daily for 8 years and before, Obama better be PERFECT. Bush couldn't SO MUCH AS sneeze and it would literally be at the top of the news or front page. So you are right. He'd better be perfect. I guess it helps when every line you speak is presented to you on a screen. Am I right fella?
Hey, one of the ways the Democrats tried to portray Gov. Palin as stupid was by attacking her for using a speechwriter, as if Obama, Biden, and McCain didn't. A little turn about is fair play but that's not what's actually going on here. I don't think less of Obama for having someone else write his speeches for him. I do think less of him for apparently not bothering to read those speeches and familiarize himself with them before presenting them in public. Ever since some hackers made electronic highway signs say, "Zombies Ahead" I've been joking that I wish someone would hack Obama's teleprompter to make him say something about zombies in a national address. This gaffe makes it look doable since it's fairly clear that he's just reading the words without thinking about them.
"The only chance for a GOP comeback is to fight as nastily as the Democrats have fought and nastier if possible."
I'd be careful with that one. Obama is popular and the first African American President so stick to conservative principles and not resort to low blows. The best comeback for the GOP is inflation and stagnet 401(k)'s. Watch. Hell, I'll vote GOP if it gets that bad since I'm a moderate independent and all.
If FOX News, Bill O’Reilly, Ingraham, Hannity, and even Rush Limbaugh wont mention the faux-scandal that is the teleprompter story then give it a rest. You Republicans will chase anything to bring Obama down like the birth certificate conspiracy theory. Some even claim that he can be impeached. At least wait for him to break the law first.
I think many Republicans are over compensating criticizing Obama, which they began on day one, because of their lowered moral from the Bush years. The playground bullies got embaressed by the entire school and want to fight. Finally, I'd rather have my President take orders from words he wrote on a teleprompter then have a President take cues from his vice President and corporate lobbyists.
First step. The GOP needs to truly realize they are in a fight.

This reminds me of Gregory Peck's great line from "The Guns of Navarone" where he says "The only way to fight a war is to be as nasty as the enemy. The only problem is that one day we may wake up and find we are even nastier than they are."
Obama doesn't deserve that respect. I think BillO is just scared of the racist card getting played.
That was my point, Palin isn't a dumb hick, but the media sure wants you to think she is. And then liberals propagate it on forever never realizing how much of sheep they are.
mileshigh, thanks for posting and reading. Your advice is exactly what not to do in my opinion.
I'll give you this, lumping in the birth certificate lunacy with legitimate criticism of Obama is rather clever.
Not sure why my post didn't show up, but I said:
"Uhh, weren't we talking about the media covering this up? Unless you assume the media as part of the U.S. govt. in the Obama adminstration? Valid assumption I suppose.
I agree. Put up your dukes and fight. Do a Costanza and do the opposite. Like I said before, we don't have to be sleezy like the Dems, but we can be tougher. Nice guys finish last and look at the current score.
Honey, Rush Limbaugh et al don't NEED to mention it because we've finally found a way to mock the Marxist Obamanation – the Teleprompter is becoming its own personality and its only been a few days and we conservatives have been having LOADS of fun with it. I suggest you get a sense of humor – this kind of thing is like the weather – you just have to lay back and enjoy the show.
Besides, darling, everything I needed to know I learned from Hillary and the Left: dissent is patriotic. Only now we conservatives can laugh while we do it. And as they all know in politics, once they start laughing at you, its over.
Barack, honey, we're laughing AT you. Not with. AT.
By the way: to my fellow conservatives, why does the teleprompter sitch remind me of a Bloom County episode? Anyone know where i put my Banana Jr. 6000???
For decades, the islamofascists have been at war with this country while we have not been at war with them (yes, I know, I am paraphrasing). One can say the exact same thing for the war of political ideas.
Miles, we have our differences, but I agree with you for the most part on the first paragraph (the low blows debate could be called into question)… the rest of it I would call into question in its' entirety… Again, the frustration we conservatives have is not wtih Obama himself (in this instance).. it's with the media refusing to even look at it, where as if it had been Bush, they'd have been fawning all over the story.
The last paragraph however, was pretty much off the mark altogether, but it's a different argument for a thread that should be just about that.
Nice trolling and outstanding job not getting the point. The sad thing is that you are so irrational and blinded that you probably think that is what Conservatives think.
The concern here is the White House is controlling information in a way previously never seen in America (perhaps in a limited capacity in WW2). Everyone makes mistakes, to err is human but for them to suddenly say "no cameras were allowed at this event and there is no video" is a clear out and out lie. This guy won't do anything unless he has full network coverage. This is the infancy of a state run media and everyone should be concerned about that.
How much did obama receive from AIG in campaign contributions?
Barack Obama IS Ron Burgundy.
There HAS to be SOMEONE in Washington that we can get to take advantage of this … even if its an intern or gaffer or someone else that can get a few seconds access to the teleprompter.
Imagine the damge that could be done.
Why can liberals not make sense? There should be a study about this. Try to employ at least an elementary level of reading comprehension, this has nothing to do with Rush.
Seriously the left gets obsessed with people and can't let go; Rush, Palin, Rove, Bush, Cheney…it's weird.
PS. Do you know the gender percentages on his show? I haven't seen the data.
The birth certificate thing is an idiotic non-story. Agreed.
Also before you say Republicans are run by corporate lobbyist I invite you to go to OpenSecrets.org . I think you'll be surprised to see Dems out pace them significantly in special interest dollars. I'm also and independent (lean right) and I thought like you until I did the research. These "squeaky clean, let's fight for the little man Democrats" are bought and paid for. Both parties stink of corruption and if we want to have a real constructive discussion it should be how do we get rid of both parties.
Very well put. To rephrase, one party seeks to represent the people, while the other seeks to actively guide it.
That would explain a lot. Like how leftist thought has infiltrated education, mainstream media, and is the default position of both elitists and unseasoned young people. It would also explain how leftist thought is historically the precursor to fascism.
IT WAS COWEN"S GAFFE, NOT OBAMA"S. DO YOUR RESEARCH.
I want to see the tape, it sounds funny. IF it's being "suppressed," it's indefensible.
That said, the Right will NEVER gonna make stuff like this "stick" to Obama like it stuck to Bush because it doesn't fit the narrative comfortably: It won't ever matter how many "dumb" things he does, he doesn't "look, talk or act" dumb. Bush did. That's why it worked. (continued)
Exactly right. The GOP leadership is so far behind every issue it's embarrassing. They need to get up to speed with the technology and tactics and let's get this war started. It IS a war and we need to get engaged.
(continued)
Political theatre isn't a gunfight, where you both have the same basic weapons and the guy with better skill wins. It's JUDO – you have to turn the opponent's strength into a weakness. Bush and Palin's biggest mutual strength was "down-home folksiness" (i.e. "I wanna have a beer with that fella!") The 'negative flip-side' of THAT is "dumb redneck rube," so THAT'S where you concentrate fire. The fact that they both "sounded dumb" (Bush's pretend ____kicker accent and Palin's real one) sealed the deal. Likewise, Kerry (remember him?) ran as the smart guy, looked and sounded the part, so the (successful) attack was "aloof, arrogant, out-of-touch."
The reality that Republicans are going to have to come to grips with is that either we fight the Dems in the arena of the media fighting just as hard and dirty as the Dems do OR the only option that will be left is ANFO, 5.56mm and a LOT of death and destruction on both sides (with no guarantee that liberty will die as a result, never to be revived again).
Frankly I'd much rather call Obama a chimp and risk the backlash charges of racist than that.
The White House has twisted this story now. They say no video cameras were allowed at the event, which is obviously a lie given Obama's love of being on TV and staying in the public eye, and they are saying only the Irish PM made a mistake and Obama did his as a joke to lighten the mood.
Again, none of this is the story. The suppression is the story. A state run media is not something the US wants.
Hey, I thought Rush Limbaugh *WAS* the Republican party in the spineless "moderate independent" universe. So how is it possible that Limbaugh doesn't mention something that "[y[ou Republicans will chase"?
Not that double standards mean anything to you anyway.
They both gaffed. You can read the transcript. Cowen may have gaffed first, but he caught it, and Obama continued it in complete ignorance (until after he thanked himself).
I don't mean to be clever or manipulative with the birth certificate issue, its just how I saw things. During a crisis, don't chase pity issues, speak on relevant ones. I think the Republicans need to argue conservative principle. Considering I voted for Bush twice while living in Ohio and Obama last fall, I think I have some perspective. I saw Ron Paul last year and liked him. I like him even more now. I still believe that the loony over compensation of criticizing Obama stems from lowered confidence from the fall out of the Bush years.
We as conservatives must realize that we are dealing with 60’s radicals and their spawn, “win by any means necessary,” screw rules or decorum. Conservatives must remove the gloves and attack the stupid ideas of the left, wherever or whenever it shows it’s ugly face. If we don’t we’ll turnaround and the greatest country the world has ever known will vanish from the face of the earth. Free the tape!
John, you are exactly right! Thank you.
Republicans need to learn that you just can't bring a knife to a gun fight. The Republicans need to learn to stand up for themselves, to shoot back in all forums and in all manners, and to stop trying to curry favor with those who hate them. Sadly, the Republican instinct is to let the people decide for themselves, with little or no attempt to shape the public's views. That's not noble — as so many Republicans delude themselves into believing — it's laughably stupid.
Most people do not want to spend the time or effort to think issues through. If you want them to understand your beliefs, you have to explain them repeatedly, over and over and over and over. You just have to suck it up and go defend yourself. To remain silent is merely to cede the field to the other side.
Damn right! Its such a letdown after the last eight years (or as I like to call it: the most open and trusting government adminstration in history) of the White House responding to the media's every whim. It's not like thousands of White House emails dissappeared. Not like Cheney saying he wasn't a part of the executive branch as a means of getting out of going before Congress. Not like declassified documents going out to the media with parts missing. Not like Alberto Gonzales havin' amensia about everything but his dang name. No, sir. Compared to the upfront Bush adminstration, Team Obama is the closest thing to the Gestapo. Hear, hear! My pappy always told me that you can judge a Democrat adminstration within the first 90 days. To hell with the next 3 3/4 years. But Bush, now that's a man that gonna require a few generations of monastic study just to begin to understand his greatness.
I'm sorry—why would the left be concerned with FACTS suddenly?
Pointless to argue with this. The media went after this guy with every breath in their body. You know what they found – NOTHING! They actually had to make up stuff – reference Dan Rathergate.
The Republicans stomped butt in '94 for doing exactly what you're saying.
I'm with ya, Todd. To me, the day to day decisions of a president that will be dissected for years pale in comparsion to reading off some cliched speech in front of a town park or VFW Hall in Anytown, U.S. In fact, I just got done reading about a speech Jimmy Carter made in a Hilton parking lot in 1978. Would you believe he said "God Less America?" And to think people talk about the high interest rates during his administration and not some random speech.
The two party system is corrupt and bows down to the will of big business. The corporate welfare from both parties, which is happening on a daily basis, is proof enough. The GOP seems to be more tied to the big business especially when some (not the majority) of them defended the bailouts claiming that businesses, not the people, should be the only ones getting government money. I'll check out that website.
Personally, lets stick to the Constitution. It's lasted this long.
this is why the MSM liked the guy- they knew he would play clean- and lose. It's why they want the GOP to be more 'moderate' . The more to the left we move, the more power they accrue. It's a smart strategy- if you allow it.
Here's A video but not the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDJSVPAx8xc It's pretty darn good.
John, the government is going to have some secrets we all accept and expect that, it's the nature of the beast. But you are right this is something minor and certainly not worthy of a government cover up. President Bush in spite of his faults never attempted to cover gaffes. You have to think if he is going to this trouble to suppress something minor what happens when something major happens?
Truth squads, media hit jobs on critics, network news manipulation, video and documentation being suppressed, these are all things you and everyone should be worried about.
Also before you dismiss me as a right wing hack; I think President Bush was probably one of the worst Presidents we ever had along with Carter (obviously), Andrew Johnson, and Howard Taft.
If Jimmy Carter didn't make mistake after mistake after mistake, he might be remembered for more than one speech. He essentially fell into the presidency on the heels of Nixon. He proved that he was inept, hence one term. He was so bad that even after the hang over of Nixon, he couldn't get re-elected. I'm not saying he's not a nice guy, but when he goes around the world, these days and puts down his country, I have lost any iota of respect I might have otherwise had. It wasn't just high interest rates. It was double-digit inflation, double-digit unemployment and gas lines. But Bush, who for most of his Presidency, had a pretty good economy, even after 9/11 and an ongoing war. Things were good. Didn't hear anyone complaining then.
I would have appreciated Bush not spending like a drunken Democrat. But that's just me.
On another note John you are right people are rushing to judgement on Obama on certain things, it has only been a short while. However liberals (not Democrats) started this with the outright hatred of President Bush before he even took office and then openly rooting against their country in a time of war just to spite him, I'm not saying it's right for Conservatives to be equally childish but just know there is a lot of anger about the way you guys have acted the last 8 years and in many cases continue to act.
Agreed. It's funny that people think he writes his own speeches. From the sound of it, he doesn't even edit them.
I've also got to laugh at the idea that Obama isn't in the tank for lobbiests. You have to be a blind fool not to see all the lobbyists in his cabinet, running his agencies, and whispering in his ear.
But the, I guess trolls don't get out in the sun much do they?
I like your stance on the Constitution, but your grasp on the Dems v. the GOP is way off. Some Republicans have sold their souls to corporate America, that's true. But the Dems have ALL sold their souls to corporate America. The Dems were the ones who pushed through the bailouts, the Dems allowed the AIG-bonuses, the Dems used Fannie and Freddie as slush funds, the Dems receive more money from big business than the Republicans, the Dems appoint Big Business as many (or more) lobbyists to government, etc.
John, you are very right, but I would like to take this one step further: Republicans need to shoot our wounded.
What I mean by that is if you are a Republican and you are caught doing things that are not conservative or at all corrupt you need to be asked to step down and kicked out. We CANNOT be like the dems and tolerate the law breakers in our offices. Once Republicans start actually holding other REPUBLICANS accountable, the people will come running to us.
(cont)
Here in my state, we are starting this process, and for the first time in history, OK has a republican majority in our state Senate. It is the first time in state history that we have controlled both houses. It took us getting rid of the Lance Cargills and the Todd Hyatts and the other corrupt people FIRST.
Republicans who go on the road and talk all conservative and then forget everything they said as soon as they step onto capital hill must be eliminated from the party. And that is your State Chairman's job (btw). Luckily, in OK, I have two really awesome senators (they aren't perfect, but they are pretty darn close) and not too bad of reps (who are even less perfect then our senators, but they still are pretty good, except for Boren, of course).
I like your stance on the Constitution, but your grasp on the Dems v. the GOP is way off. Some Republicans have sold their souls to corporate America, that's true. But the Dems have ALL sold their souls to corporate America. The Dems were the ones who pushed through the bailouts, the Dems allowed the AIG-bonuses, the Dems used Fannie and Freddie as slush funds, the Dems receive more money from big business than the Republicans, the Dems appoint as many (or more) big business lobbyists to government, etc.
I think conservatives and Republicans should take this time of wilderness wandering to reflect on our values and principles, so that we can fight effectively. A boot camp of sorts, making ourselves faster, stronger and more cohesive. Stooping to the level of Democrats by focusing on gaffes just makes people disgusted with politics. We must be the party of ideas and debate on principles. McCain may have lost because he didn't take advantage of easy shots like Rev. Wright, but I believe that he learned a long time that when you are deprived of your rights and material comfort, all you have is your honor and dignity. So, he's disinclined to compromise his dignity by taking cheap shots. That's why I supported him. The fact that so many voters bought into the 2nd rate circuit preacher with his hope and change schtick who conducted a deceitful and underhanded campaign speaks more to how off track we've become as a nation. I know some on here have been critical of McCain, and in some cases rightly so, but I think the greatest fault lies with the American people – they don't know a leader when they see one. The Democrats may have power, but they will be ineffective and will end up destroying themselves within, they're already descending into finger pointing: Cramer v. Stewart, Dodd v. White House. Yes, we are in fight, but it must be a clean fight, otherwise we'll be no different from our opponents.
The key for Republicans and conservatives to regain power in 2010 is to have a simple, positive vision to present the electorate:
1) An end to congressional pork and a balanced budget;
2) Lower taxes for EVERYBODY, especially the rich;
3)Cut entitlements and increase defense spending.
Then conservatives need to heed the advice of Zulu King Chaka: Leave no enemy standing behind you. No reaching across the aisle; no "bipartisanship". Isolate and let the "moderate" Republicans like Specter, Snowe and Collins shrivel off the vine.
Here ya go Obamatron. She has been sucessful in everthing she has undertaken short of being elected V.P. No president is elected POTUS based on the veep, look at that joke Obammy has for his sidekick. The media had, and has a vested interest in helping a stealth moderate that has turned out to be a raging leftist succeed and that included savaging Palin no matter what. They should be held accountable for the damage that will befall our country. If you think Obammy is a roaring success so far your a blind sycophat, but your post said that about you, you don't have to admit it.
I would have actually made it funny — and a slam against Obama. As it is now, I think an Obama supporter created the site, as it pulls as many punches against Obama as SNL does.
I'm dropping the guise now. My point (which was the point to my original post up there) was that these gaffes don't mean anything of lasting substance and for either side to dwell on them is ridiculous. As I'm sure you're aware, I couldn't stand Bush for a number of reasons, but not a single one had anything to do with his speaking ability. Those best of blunders miss the boat completely. Hence, my post about Carter. He's remembered as a failure for the things that we both mentioned and not for one of the hundreds of little P.R. speeches he made during his presidency.
KCL, EFCA and the coming amnesty wave will cover for whatever mistakes they make. I'm sorry but McCain not fighting back showed weakness not honor. Believe me, I love the guy, but he blew it.
"John McCain time and time again repudiated Republicans who went after Obama in the way the Democrats went after him. McCain lost. The only chance for a GOP comeback is to fight as nastily as the Democrats have fought and nastier if possible. A big if."
Bingo! McCain was so weak during the campaign, at his rally’s people were actually chanting, "Fight Back, Fight Back." He didn't, he lost.
The same thing happened with George Bush; Whether through arrogance, stubbornness, or some sort of a messianic complex, he came across as incredibly weak and sissified if/when he ever responded to attacks from the left, "Well, good people can disagree," etc. I believe most on the right simply gave up on him. If he's too weak (or clueless, or stubborn) to even TRY to defend himself, why should I?
The fact is we're in a street fight. It's time to take the gloves off and USE THE LEFT WING PLAYBOOK against them.
Obama is an invention of the liberal media; he’s a goofball and a buffoon with big ears, and c'mon, he's not that smart! That should be the beginning mantra of the new Right. Goodbye George Bush, goodbye John McCain and goodbye to any weak, old school Republican who just doesn’t get it and refuses to fight fire with fire against the left wing haters and their shills in the press.
I think Iraq was the game changer. If the mission had stayed in Aghanistan, then public opinion would have been different. I admit he lost me after that. I think its one of the biggest blunders this side of (yes) Vietnam and a massive, massive hemorrhage of taxpayer money. As to your charge of Americans, "opening rooting against their country", I think we can draw the curtain of modesty on that and agree to disagree. Look, I don't think Obama is the Savior but I think (I'm certain I'm alone on this forum) he is competent. Time will tell.
So you're the one exception to the rule.
"The birth certificate thing is an idiotic non-story. Agreed. "
I am not convinced. If it was a non-story he'd have released the official copy to quell everything. The fact that he hasn't in interesting and we shouldn't be shamed into silence on the issue until he produces his official bc.
"'Stupid' means one thing: "threatening to the interests of the Democratic Party." The more Conservative the Republican, the more vicious and hysterical the attacks on his intelligence will be."
-Ann Coulter
"why does the teleprompter sitch remind me of a Bloom County episode?"
Thank you!! I've had this vague sense of "deja vu" but couldn't put a name on it.
I'm expecting Milo to stand up in a presser and asking Gibbsy why T. Prompter hasn't been properly vetted for tax issues or lobbyist ties, nor appropriately confirmed by the Senate.
THANKS JAKE! YOU ARE A GREAT TOOL (duplicitous injection intended) OUTING THE LEFT AND THEIR DESIRE TO STICK THEIR DUMB HEADS IN THE SAND! BRAVO! now jake, pretend bush made this same mistake …GO!
As Meghan McCain would say, "I, like totally, agree!" Daddy Mc's backstabbing ways did not show any mitigation during the campaign and emboldened the drive-bys(d-b), and the d-bs knew they could defeat the republicans from within – ugh, I need a shower: Meghan and Papa McCain need to withdraw from the national spotlight and go watch Cindy on Dancing with the Stars. UUUGGHH!!!
"It comes down to the old adage, "Do you really want to win if you have to stoop to their level?""
Nonsense.
They lie, have the balls to tell the truth. That alone would be enough to "put one of his in the morge."
Like his dad, GWB never defended himself, even when he was 100-percent correct; they are men of honor. Even just last week, GWB said Obama "deserves his silence" or something to that effect. I can't picture any Democrat saying something that classy. However, that misses the point. Nowadays, what works is the soundbite. I know it speaks to the country's collective lack of attention span, but it is what it is.
The best ad McCain had in that pathetic, grovelling campaign of his was the Obama "celebrity" ad, which I believe McCain later repudiated.
McCain's whole campaign was about "reaching across the aisle." People — on both sides — want their representative to reach across the aisle only as far as it takes to slap the other side. The Democrats know this, so they attack, attack, attack — even when logic (global warming) or honor (Reid, Pelosi, Frank) are not on their side. The GOP had a perfect opportunity to turn Pelosi's winning "culture of corruption" slam against the Dems in 2010. But too many Republicans already stuck their hand in the pork barrel.
Too many times, our side acts like it's unseemly to fight back. I say, let's take it to the bastards!
Somewhere Obama's "killer bunny rabbit" moment, ala Jimmy F-ing Carter, is lurking out there. The question is, will his accomplices in the press report it?
the teleprompter didn't gaffe – obama did
it wasn't Obama's teleprompter that gaffe'd, it was Obama
Miles, it is "morale" if you want to edit.
btw…no overcompensating here. Obama is a marxist, with an admitted Sirhan Bishara Sirhan admirer as his mentor at the "Anneburg Project" [still trying to figure out what qualifications one must have for that occupation], and deserves every criticism that wants to be voiced in a free society. Notice "criticism" does not mean violence; but vocal dissent and ridicule if needed…
The birth certificate issue is legitimate if only to highlight the problem: Obama was allowed to SLIDE through life, from college, through law school, into the White House with no proof of having done anything.
And while a respected journalist like Dan Rather went so far as to torpedo his own reputation by backing his national guard hoax to try to hurt GWB, the MSM doesn't lift a finger to pursue what could be a blockbuster of a story — the first U.S . presidency undermined by the constitutional rule that presidents must be U.S. citizens.
People continue to take Vietnam out of context and let the media redifine what was happening there. Vietnam was a proxy "Hot War" in the context of a larger Cold War. We could have stood back ignored Vietnam and let it alone. We didn't. It's part of our history. We could have a openly communist government in Central or South American right now. OOPS, WE DO! Soft peddaling communism and it's evil little brother, socialism, has led to this moment in time, an outright socialist, disguised as a Democrat in the W.H. Congratulations!
I'm not sure where I stand on this. Normally, I agree with CalVRWC. We shouldn't sink ourselves to their level. We need to lead by example and not lead by volume. But, (most) liberals are idiots. Those who follow liberals are (mostly) idiots. They don't understand the point we're trying to make by keeping to the high road. We just might have to resort to their tactics.
Jesus said, "Turn the other cheek." But he also wasn't afraid to take a whip to the moneychangers in the synagogue.

The trick, I guess, is to be Reagan. Or even Bush. Laugh it off. Laugh at yourself, along with everyone else. Show that we stuffy, old, fuddy-duddy, crochety, old white dudes have a better sense of humor than the angry, embittered, clinging to their government and their anti-gun-protest-signs liberals. Go on the Daily Show. Watch the latest gaffe video, out of context quote or downright lie. Make jokes about it. Make jokes about yourself. Eat popcorn while they're playing the clip. Pull a Roxanne or a Cyrano. Bush looks like a chimp? Bush-"I have always liked bananas." Or: "You should see me climb trees." Or anything else. Out-comedy the comedians.
Absolutely. They're all corrupt, enjoying salaries, benefits, and perks most of us will never see. Did you know members of Congress can legally trade on insider information? It's on the books, written by the people who write the laws, members of Congress.
Your partially right.
Kerry ran as the smart guy, but he was an idiot. Got Ds in school (as opposed to GWB's Cs. And GWB could fly a fighterjet.
If Kerry was smarter he'd have been aloof — he was just a lunkhead.

Tit for tat! Erin go braless!
Try using English when you write on this blog you might find your points are better understood that way.
You are exactly right….They will not back down until they see you mean business.
I agree with this, though I wouldn't call it shooting our wounded. I would say that we need to police our own party and eject the corrupt and the perverse.
YES! Please go with this strategy. The only reason your party was rejected is because it wasn't mean enough. Too gentle into the night goes the Republicans. America must not have heard your voices accusing Obama of "palling around with terrorists". This site is so fun to read. All the false bravado and street fight talk. Okay who is going to be the first to step up and tell me how much they wished they could just punch me or shoot me? What a bunch of whiny children the vast right wing conspiracy has become.
Oh, there was a 'guise'?
Here's a clue for you. For the past eight years you and yours leapt on anything like this that came down the pike about Bush–regardless of it's importance relative to the job of President–AND you and yours used those gaffes to insist that they PROVED that Bush was too stupid to be President. Or don't you think we remember that? Come on–you all couldn't even let the man leave office without childish rudeness.
And now Obama is proving himself just as gaffe prone and we should leave it alone? it's not important?
Are you for real?
"We were told this wouldn't be clean and quick, I understood that."
"I believe demolishing Hussein's miltary power and liberating Iraq will be a cakewalk"- Ken Adelman 2/13/02
"We're dealing with a country that can really finance its own reconstruction and relatively soon" Paul Wolfowitz 3/27/03
"Iraq will not require sustained aid" Mitch Daniels 3/28/03
"It is not knowable how long that conflict would last. It could last, you know, six days, six weeks, I doubt six months" Donald Rumsfield 2/7/03
I knew my method of making you expose yourself would work. Excelsior!
Never underestimate the power of humor:
The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff briefed the president this morning.
He told President Obama that 2 Brazilian soldiers were killed in Iraq .
To everyone's surprise, all the color drained from Obama's face. Then
he collapsed into his desk chair, head in his hands, visibly shaken, almost
in tears. Finally, as he attempted to compose himself, he
whispered, “Just how many is a brazilian?”
This is not surprising, since he obviously has no understanding of billion or trillion, either.
There's a great bumper sticker on Protest Warrior that says "Say no to war, Unless a Democrat President starts it"
To be fair, Andrew… while some presidents are good with off-the-cuff (Reagan, Kennedy, Clinton) remarks, there has (or as I've understood) always been an "official speechwriter" for the sitting POTUS, even the great speakers, who actually has to know how to put the messages into a form how the POTUS would speak, correct?
The War in Iraq was poorly planned and pooly executed by the people in charge. That surge should have been from the beginning and the whole thing would have been done two or three years ago, different discussion though.
I agree with you on Obama, I think he is competent. I would go so far as saying he is dangerously competent. He (or his handlers) knows how to manipulate the media and public opinion beautifully, and he is extremely agressive in pursuing very radical legislation using the media. What he's doing is brilliant but idealogically it is my polar opposite and in my opinion, I know you'll differ, it's counter the nation's founding principals of minimal government and the right to self determination.
Do you want someone to hurt you?
Do you want to hurt yourself?
Are you depressed?
One more note on Vietnam that a lot of people don't mention is it was an international (ie. UN) action just as Korea was. We were in there to pull the French's rears out of hot water. We never asked for that war, we were just the last to abandon it.
Amen, bro. It's time to get dirty!
In spite of my disagreement with the birth certificate nonsense Stephen makes a great point here. This should have been a story the media was itching to investigate and should have been pretty easy to disprove. They reported on rumors about President Bush as though they were facts.
For all the commentary on Bush's malapropisms, how many votes did that lose him? How many elections?
For a large number of Americans, mocking Obama for teleprompter use has no meaning. He gives good speeches, they like his speeches, and could care less where he reads the words for his speech. You won't convince people he's an intellectual lightweight; and even if you did, what exactly would that effect?
If conservatives are to bounce back, it will require real IDEAS backed with credible SOLUTIONS to the problems that afflict America right now. And since many of them occurred under a GOP president's watch, that means they have to be NEW ideas.
I'll tie it to Hollywood too. You can't just complain liberal movies are dumb or that actors who are liberals say stupid things. You have to provide quality content that people want to see. That means FRESH IDEAS and QUALITY productions.
But this? This is snark — worse, this is complaining about a LACK of snark. Who is this going to convince? Does it get anyone closer to the ideas and solutions that the GOP needs to revive itself?
Vice President's corporate lobbyists??? So Obama doesn't have corporate lobbyists? Okay, keep believing that.
even though he is my brother I've never liked McCain; he's just not the sharpest knife in the drawer and he gets rolled by the Dems without extracting anything in return and proudly calls it 'bipartisanship'… yeah, Nancy Pelosi style. Meghan loved the attention of the campaign and wants people, to, like, y'know listen to her. And she wants a boyfriend so they can go places and eat things…
By the way….there is no such thing as the "office of the President Elect"! Anyone with any sense was embarrassed by his blatant stupidity and arrogance!
duh … anything making obama look stupid is a racist denigration of african-americans. also, the word denigration is racist and must be expunged from the lexicon. vote obama 2009!
Amen. The two party system is horrifically corrupt, and the voters are the problem. We've allowed ourselves to be divided like we're rooting for sports teams where you are either for one or the other and this has left a lot of great independents out in the cold.
Miles, you do appear to have some misunderstanding about the Republican party as far as the bailout goes. They fought it tooth and nail thinking bad businesses should be allowed to fail. Only 3 crossed the aisle to vote for it. Philisophically Republicans are against government intervention which is an extension of the Jeffersonian ideaology while the modern Democrats have moved more to the Alexander Hamilton Federalist model of an all encompassing Federal government; ie Socialism.
I think OpenSecrets site will open your eyes a bit to some surprising misconceptions, make sure to look up all these banks and big businesses we've bailed out and look who they're giving money to.
Peter,
All due respect it takes a good set of man globes to be an independent in such a partisan atmosphere. We're basically standing in front of a stampeding herd with our hands out yelling "whoa!"
i'm hunting snarks. if we lacked snarks, what would i hunt?
I do like your senators, well done Oklahoma!
I have no problems repurposing old George W. Bush jokes for Obama. But just an FYI, Brazil wasn't in the COTW. And I don't think the color can drain from Obama's face.
If setting a record for number of colleges attended in a six year span before settling on a prestigious career in Anchorage broadcast journalism, then yes, that's quite a successful undertaking.
They have teleprompters there, don't they?
I hope war is never decided on who can figure out first they are not reading their speech.
Cowen took 20 seconds Obama never realized it.
Do these talking heads not have the first inclining as to what there speech is going to be until they stand up there and start reading. If so then who is pulling the strings on Obama's lips. That's what we need to have polls about. Do you approve of or disapprove of what the writers are saying and the policies they are coming up with.
Obama can't seem to finish a sentence with out a teleprompter.
Perhaps a great orator but not a very good thinker.
Good points Bob. The GOP could certainly play the elitist angle on Obama but he is aware of that as a weakness so he goes out of his way to do "normal guy things" like talk about working out and NCAA brackets. Hollywood has created the stereotype about people "folksy" people being stupid but could never make it stick to Reagan. Traditionally Leftist politicians (not comparing them but…Hitler, Stalin, Chavez, Lenin, Obama) tend to be extremely charismatic and excellent speakers. Conversely Right (Thatcher, Reagan, Eisenhower, Bush)politicians tend to be more grounded in common sense which tends to not sound as eleoquent and comes across as more folksy so by stereotyping folksy people they were in fact attacking the entire Right side of the political spectrum. Of course the only exception to this was Winston Churchill who was an eloquent, charismatic Right wing politician which is an unbeatable combination,
it seems someone's tinfoil hat is coming loose………..
Cheney had no clue who Plame was. The only reason the subject came up was because some reporter asked about it. The person that outed the fact that she went to a government building every day to work was a "democrat". Despite this your special counsel invesitigating this dd see fit to charge him with anything even though he said it was such a horrible crime.
By the way neither did Ronald Reagon cut a secret October Surprise deal with Khomani to release the hostages from Iran because Baker could not show one day's travel itinerary in a four year period.
And you know what in his first three months Bush did not double the national debt, half the value of my house and 401K and then use government bailouts as an excuse to turn the US government into Fascist Italy by taking half the equity of major banks in the financial sector at the point of a gun.
Oh the Left is loving Meghan McCain right now and she's totally oblivious. When The View asks you on so you can continue your on-air argument with Laura Ingram and Ann Coulter– you're not helping.
Here's a clue. Learn to read. If you had read what I had written, you would have noticed that I didn't care about Bush's speaking ability. I wrote several times that it has no bearing on my opinion of a president's worth. As much as you would clearly like to think it, all liberals are not alike.
Yeah, because we all remember how popular Vietnam made L.B.J. And I seem to remember Clinton getting a ton of crap (I thought deserved) for bombing Sudan, Bosnia, Iraq.
Okay, walk me through this. The national debt is $11 trillion and change. Are you still implying that it was roughly 5.5 on Jan. 20th and Obama has doubled to $11? Are you really implying that? Are you aware that the national debt increased by $4 trillion under Bush, the highest for any president in the history of America? So, you're saying (I guess) that blaming Clinton for a lot of problems over the last 8 years is A OK but implying that maybe, just maybe the problems of the economy could be due to Bush's years is anthema and I'm the one with the tin foil hat?
I didn't realize that was an old GWB joke- I just heard it today for the first time.
As for your contention that the color probably can't drain from O'Gantry's face,
well, just wait till his approval rating starts to reflect the damage he's doing to our country…
If there was actually an independent platform, you might have a chance of convincing me of that. However, I can plainly see with my own two eyes that all an independent does is moisten his finger and feel the direction of the wind. Then he goes with what's popular. He's a windvane, nothing more.
It doesn't take courage to go with the majority; rather, it takes courage to defend your principals even when you are in the minority.
I think he meant chesticles.
Our teleprompter/affirmative action President, B. Obama, is nothing but an empty suit. He is completely incompetent to run a small business, let alone the government. However, he may just be the tool the socialists in this country have dreamed of to remake our economy and our form of government into something they could never achieve openly. Obama lies and pretends to be "centrist", but actions speak louder. He talks nice (when teleprompted), but he has an underlying arrogance. By the way, if he's as smart as he thinks, why have his college grades been kept such a secret?
Sorry, but the reason "You can see Russia from my house" stuck was because her original statement that she had foreign policy experience because there are places in Alaska where you can see parts of Russia was so insanely stupid. Tina Fey's version just tweaked it a little.
Bingo! This is why the left must be challenged and corrected every single time they associate fascism with the extreme right wing. They do it again and again, and unfortuantely that lie has been swallowed. In what alternate universe could liberty and individual freedom from government tyranny EVER be associated with fascism? Fascism is just another failed attempt at social engineering. The Nazi party were national socialists.
Dumber than a box of rocks.
Bush never tried to cover his gaffes… except for little things, like refusing to read the briefing paper on Al qaeda because he was on vacation in August, 2001. Or invading a foreign country on faulty intelligence that his team had cherry-picked. That must be why he and his team illegally used RNC email adresses to communicate in the White House, and then "lost" thousands upon thousands of them.
Ayers admits he's a domestic terrorist, is unrepentant and wishes he could have done more. Obama says he was friends with Ayers. Now I'm a little fuzzy on what the current definition of "palling around" is, I mean I'm not sure if they went out for regular dinner theater dates or not or anything, but the fact remains that they considered one another friends. So Palin pointing out these things wasn't being mean, it was stating the facts.
I don't wish I could punch or shoot you, I just wish liberals would actually debate issues instead of resorting to namecalling as the primary thrust for their specious arguments.
This is brilliant strategy! When people are terrified about losing their jobs, their houses, and their health care, the right should boldly sttup up to the plate and call Barack Obama names. That will make Americans realize that Republicans have much better ideas how to help them. You go out and start that movement, and you'll have an Alaskan hick in the White House in no time!
Right on John! Conservatives need to fight back with the truth. We know the video won't be shown on the MSM networks, but the fact that none of numerous gaffes have been even whispered about on late night television, shows how far in the tank the media has sunk, as Mr. Slagle has pointed out a time or two.
Romano is right on! Dems get away with everything and Republicans are dumb. Amazing. Romano's point about Obama thanking himself is #97 (97 already!!!) on the Official Obama Administration Scandals List!
http://conservativeamerican.org/dems-libs-sociali...
McCain, like GW Bush, wanted to be friends with people that took pictures with them, smiling and an arm over their shoulders. Then ran out and keyed their car on the way past it. Bush let Dems like Killer Kennedy write bills the way he wanted them, invited them over to his house for a movie about his brother. Then Teddy was out calling him vile names at every chance. Face it the Tip O'Niell/Ronald Reagan beers after work days are over and the socialists, yes socialists, are in large and in charge.
Thanks WR1! What people should be terrified about is the ever expanding federal government. Where people find themselves with their jobs, houses, and health care are directly related to government meddling, Taxes-CRA-Medicare (the list is long) etc. We’re just following the liberal blue print on how to treat a sitting President. You had better be careful calling Sarah a hick, she might come kick you’re a$$, ha!
Can the video be obtained through the Freedom of Information Act?
The Obama administration is handing gaffes large and small to the GOP on a daily basis on a silver platter and the GOP acts like a deer in the headlights. They claim to take the high road but they're taking the road to no where. They need to roll up their sleeves and get in the game.
http://the100mostannoyingthings.blogspot.com/
Unfortunately not, unless the US government has some sort of official record. If the networks have it, they're not saying, and there's not a f__king thing the little people can do to make them confess.
The GOP doesn't need to lower themselves to the way the libs and dems attack their opponents with personal attacks – going after credit reports – like with Steele, putting up billboards – like with Rush, attacking children – like with Palin, etc. The GOP start being tough, which would be a step up. The press doesn't like Republicans and that's just a fact. The problem is that the GOP thinks if they act like they think the press and libs want them to act, that the tables will turn. History shows that ain't going to happen. But the GOP can point out and press legitimate falicies, like with Dodd, Obama, Frank, etc. and forcibly bring this stuff to light. They don't do that. They want to play nice and as a result, get their nads kicked in. Time to start causing some black eyes on the other side!!!
Very well put. To rephrase, one party seeks to represent the will of the people, while the other seeks to dictate the will of the people.
That would explain a lot. Like how leftist thought has infiltrated education, mainstream media, and is the default position of both elitists and unseasoned young people. It would also explain how leftist thought is historically the precursor to fascism.
I wanna see that run over and over again on every late night show!
Many other Obama missteps (which could make for fodder for a deeper analysis) are generously forgotten & forgiven by media – here I'll remind you a nice one: "In my Muslim faith…"
How is it stupid. You are welcome to say it is stupid, but how is it stupid?
Hey wr1, at least that Alaskan hick is an ADULT, and easily ten times more qualified than this "kid" Obama. By calling Rush Limbaugh names and going on Jay Leno, he’s showed us what an incompetent, unqualified dweeb he is. He's completely diminished the Presidency to B-list celebrity status.
The American people are seeing just what happens when a media creation gets "on the job training" in the White House. This country, in under 100 days, has become a train wreck under this moron Obama. I'll repeat it; he's just an immature kid who has no idea what he's doing. He’s a simple-minded “community activist” from Chicago – a third rate street hustler, and this country is in big trouble.
Palin in 2012!
Writer X: It is a complete paralysis caused by political correctness – I'll remind you the odious scene that happened in a "V" show last year when Woopy Goldberg jumped at McCain asking him whether she had to expect to wear an iron collar again if Reps win the presidency.
And Mccain, instead of simply walk out from the set, sat there, immobile, without saying anything – home, Al Sharpton, Spike Lee and Jessie Jackson don't compare with Woopy, I telya.
So here we are, republicans and the larger nation – completely paralysed and blackmailable.
You are so right, she's a total stooge.
"I'd rather have my President take orders from words he wrote on a teleprompter then have a President take cues from his vice President and corporate lobbyists"
See Miles, the difference is that Obama has a 27 year old writing all of his speeches. He's too busy calling up the NYT explaining himself and making his NCAA picks to actually write his own speeches. I wonder why he needs a teleprompter to do what any 3rd rate local politician could do in their sleep.
Where the hell do you come up with this stuff?
I think it is a non-story, however I think you are right. Let's just see his birth certificate and be done with it. Do I hear FOIA request?
Spineless? I never said Limbaugh WAS the republican party. I dont like that guy, but do not follow lock step with everything the Dems believe just because I voted for their guy this time. A concept those deeply partisan just wont understand from my Republican family to my liberal neighbors in Cap Hill-Denver. Careful who you name call, they could live closer to you then you think!
Yes, Mark you are right. However, it seems that the past POTUS' actually read drafts and edited them before committing them to posterity. I would hope that Obama wouldn't need a speechwriter to say "thank you for coming", but apparently he does.
You're right. Palin's teleprompter ran off without her and she didn't blink an eyelash. She actually read her speech before hitting the stage. She didn't um and ah without it like the annointed one. I hope she stays around. But she'll be pummeled by the press because she IS a threat to the liberal women out there…And liberal men because she's got more testosterone than they do.
Remember Bush's bullhorn speech on 9/11? Succinct. Perfect. From the heart. And guess what? Off the cuff.
Can you imagine Barry's people setting up a teleprompter on the smoking ruins of WTC?
Every human flubs his words (e.g. strategery). Only a horse's ass/Manchurian Candidate would blindly read something without mentally vetting it.
Remember the MSM actually spending time on whether a wrinkle in Bush's suitcoat contained a monitor so Rove (or whoever) could feed him debate answers? Where's that scrutiny?
Of course the MSM won't cover this, but the fact that the video hasn't leaked out at all — in this day and age where everything gets out (even gaffes from idiot Biden) — this is scary censorship.
Except everyone thought Churchill was an idiot during most of his political career.
McCain just had to have a surgery for a rotator cuff injury from reaching across the aisle.
Misanthropicus, great point. There seems to be great concern among certain Republicans, including McCain, that it is more important not to offend the co-hosts on THE VIEW than it is to so consistently offend people in their own party. I don't get it. But it is certainly political correctness (or stupidity) on steroids.
Don't look at the racket I'm running….I am Obama so look at my NCAA brackets.
Obama being a marxist is a fact; and the duplicity among the d-b(s) about railroading a political opinion (Palin, Coulter, Ingraham, Rush, et. al.) by distorting truth is important to the survival of our republic, John.
I remember luminaries of the left advocating "regime change" in Iraq while Bush was Gov. of Texas. Clinton and Kerry were just two of them. Undertaking fullscale operations in Afganistan with an openly hostile, yet somewhat muzzled Iraq just the other side of Iran would have invited an even bigger, more dangerous theater wide war. Today, Iraq is contained and at least somewhat friendly, Afganistan is next. We were told this wouldn't be clean and quick, I understood that. Doing nothing isn't an option. We will be in a global stuggle with Islam for the next 100 years. We didn't start it, and don't tell me about the Shah of Iran in the 50's and other deversions from the problem at hand.
Exactly — Rudy's teleprompter crapped out during RNC, too. Rudy should have been the nominee. Next to McCain, his was the second worst-run campaign ever.
The birth certificate issue is legitimate if only to highlight the problem: Obama was allowed to SLIDE through life with minimal effort, from college, through law school, into the White House — and with no proof of having done anything. No college transcripts, essays, nothing.
And while a respected journalist like Dan Rather went so far as to torpedo his own reputation by backing his national guard hoax to try to hurt GWB, the MSM doesn't lift a finger to pursue what could be a blockbuster of a story — the first U.S . presidency undermined by the constitutional rule that presidents must be U.S. citizens.
I don't think he is competent. And that's not because I'm not a Democrat. I believe he is a bureaucrat at heart and his governing style shows. I believe he thinks there should be a manual that explains everything in life. He's all about government control because deep in his heart, I believe he thinks government is the all-knowing, all-great entity. I believe he and most liberals at his level, believe he is the smartest guy in the room. When I saw the seal of the Office of President Elect, it was high-schoolish. His administration, so far, seems very high-schoolish. I was waiting for one of his promises to be that we would get an extra hour of recess a day if elected to the office of President Elect.
I don't think we could be as caustic or mean as liberals because it's not in our DNA. But I don't think we should be sticks in the mud anymore either and play nice. The GOP is like Brendan Fraser in "Bedazzled" when he's on the beach eating dolphin free tuna. He gets sand kicked in his face because he just wants to get along with his womyn friend and their new friends, he tries to appease them. But keeps getting sand kicked in his face. But oh, that sunset! Let's start kicking some sand! Where's my teleprompter!?
The Left's elitism is even beyond anything that the Country Club Rockefeller Repubs were capable of back in the day. Alaska is one of 50 states. It is no less of a state and her citizens are no less citizens than someone from the Hamptons or Cape Cod or Georgetown. There are actually people who work their way through college like Gov Palin did and go where the scholarships or work opportunities are.
Why would working in Anchorage tv news be any less worthy work — if one does it well— than working at CBS or NBC on the East Coast. ? Sounds like Paul wishes the original 13 had formed an exclusive club and not let any of those backwoods hicks joined the USA. Boo to that Louisiana Purchase, Tom Jefferson. What were you thinking!! Alaska should take her oil, fishing industry and lumber industry and form its own club — and not sell any oil or salmon to Paul.
Bush had to endure the opposing party and press hitting him in the face everytime he mispronounced a word. Then they propped their guy up as the smartest guy on the planet, who is such a great speaker, yada, yada, yada. They don't question ANYTHING he says or does and on and on and on. Bush got the crap beat out of him everyday, literally, of his Presidency. The press beat up on him, Hollywood beat up on him, academia beat up on him. He didn't as much go after anyone for doing so. He took it like a man and went on. Obama, as with Bill Clinton, goes after anyone who has the audacity (his word) to question him. The left, the press and for a certain amount, Obama has built himself up as the second coming. We've had it crammed down our throats for the past 2 years. You'd be hard pressed to find ONE derogatory comment by the main stream media, about Obama. I will not give this guy a break. With all this, I'm expecting nothing less than perfection.
I believe conservatives were willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt after the election. Moreso than liberals were after Bush won. But what tripped me was this endless spending and taxation that was starting to be the norm of the Obama sea-change. Trillions in spending. Rushing legislation through congress without the opportunity for people to look at it. To tell us that this was the most important legislation in history, needed to be done, then when congress cleared it, take off to Hawaii for 4 days. This ongoing drumbeat of spend, spend, spend, without much direction. But spending for spending's sake. Floating the idea of injured vets to pay for their own insurance? It goes on and on. His goodwill is falling very fast. Even Whoopi Goldberg is pissed about getting taxed at every direction. Sign of the apocalypse.
Actually Rush did mention it. On his show he chided the teleprompter for playing a trick on the president. It was funny. I find it curious that you libs actually talk about this as if it were a serious issue like the 401K's. So if a liberal is in office and does a boneheaded stupid thing like Obama has just done then all of a sudden there is something wrong if I should laugh at it. Sorry it was stupid and it is funny. I am going to laugh at it.
I never saw Bush ever "looking" dumb. Just because a bunch of liberals repeat it to each other on their news channels does not make it so. Shoot you say Condaleeza Rice "looked" dumb and she has got to be one of the most competent and intelligent Secratary of State's that we've had.
The old adage repeat a lie often enough and it becomes true only works on those people that listen to the propaganda.
John McCain was down home folksiness and this is why he lost? So the fact that he betrayed the party and half the conservatives were vowing not to go to the polls because the guy abandoned conservative principles and jumped ship to help the democrats had nothing to do with this.
You do not really believe that the conceit by the retarded Starbucks Latte crowd in San Francisco actually did anything to Palin. If anything it almost lost you the election. Had McCain not pulled the Suspend the Campaign stunt and attacked a Republican for some esoteric SEC rule that had nothing to do with the problem thus ending the bounce from Palin I think you would have.
This is why you libs have not been able to win an election since Carter until now. You "invent" this narrative that has nothing to do with reality and then repeat it to each other in the press assuming everyone agrees with you. Let me clue you in. People really don’t agree with you. They just know that if they don’t just smile and nod their heads they never hear the end of your faux outrage and insults based upon your identity politics.
Country Club Republicans do this. Every election cycle I have to watch the converatives try to drag the Northeast Liberals in the party to actually fight these people. Until 1980 these CCR'ers were more than happy to sit back let liberals take charge and work behind the scenes to put specific tax loopholes in the code.
It is actually pretty funny to see these liberals try to elevate people like Snow and lecture us on how the party should be in order to succeed. They want that "golden" age of the post FDR takeover back. Problem is they've grown the government so large that there is always going to be a huge opposition from then small business sector.
That is of course assuming that Obama wises up and realizes that the counttry cannot actually spend one trillion dollars every four months. Otherwise there is going to be a bloody civil war and the voting will be done with bullets. I an assuming that Obama is this smart but let's face it the man does not read his own speeches.
Yeah, the 'wounded' in a political sense refers to those who've gotten into it heavy with the opposition, and have gotten slammed hard for it.
Be careful of the Delay effect. As I understand it there is a liberal DA in Austin who went after Kay Bailet Hutchinsen. He accused her of election fraud and tried to get a grand jury to indict. When that did not work he tried again and again until he finally found a charge that would indict. Eventually all of it was thrown out but it drug on for two years.
This same guy did the same to Delay. Because of our rule he had to step down as party leader and eventually he was tied to Abramov and the defeat was complete. It will be to easy for the Dem's to just invent charges. If we get rid of the worng doers fine. I am all for it. It we end up helping libs slander our own and destroying people's lives then no that is a mistafe. Let's face it October Surprise was the charge that Reagan used his pull with the Ayatollah to delay the release of the hostages based on BAker not being able to show his travel itinerary for one day.
The one thing to remember first is that liberals are dirty slandering liars and any charge from them should be suspect. Hate to say it but it is true.
Liberals are so clever. They control the media. They control the horizontal. They control the vertical. They make geniuses look dumb and we are powerless to stop them. But they are also sheep.
Look at the way they made W (also a super-genius) look totally incompetent. Fiendish.
Heavens to Betsy, look how they made Palin look dumb. Imagine if liberals had interviewed Einstein. The liberal media would have him in remedial math classes in no time. Dastardly!
We were better and smarter and more worthy and yet they won. Sheep!!!
But it ends here and now; with this thread the revolution begins.
Alaska should go Galt.
Say man, can I borrow that crystal ball of yours? I need to make some money off college hoops before it's over.
I had an economics professor who stated that congress does 12% better in the stock market than any one else.
It's not hard to see why the people that legislate laws and have an inside track on what will be the inevitable ups and downs of the market. I hope congress men and women got hosed on the massive drop in the stock market.
DoublePlusGood Citizen
"Bulls*%! you didn't convince me. Let me see your real war face!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8Nf1MK7lts
I agree 100%. Let's research this more so we can all be objective about it…
Now, show me the video.
It's stupid because wr1 acts as if Palin claimed this as her one and only bit of foreign policy experience. If that were true, it would be funny. Rather, in a longer conversation on her foreign policy credentials, Russia was brought up. As an aside, she mentioned "You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."
Then, being the dishonest, hate-merchants that they are, the Left proclaimed that this was the entirety of her foreign policy credentials. Then, cretins like wr1 ran (and continued to run) around the Internet repeating as fact everywhere they could.
"Okay who is going to be the first to step up and tell me how much they wished they could just punch me or shoot me?"
Boo.
Well, we Conservatives better decide. Fight for our country with the dems, who clearly need history lessons but are not, though nasty and miserable when they are out of power and completely oblivious to anything resembling intelligence when they ARE in power, do not want to turn the country to Sharia Law or cut off all heads who disagree.
At least not yet. Don't dare take a nap though!
We are at war. Dems never acknowledge that unless they are in power and lobbing the missles at tents or heaps of stones and dust . ONLY if THEY are doing the waging. Otherwise, their blood sport is taking out conservatives and republicans at every opportunity and thoroughly trashing decent society in the process. With this administration doing it's all to be very charming while ruining everything we have built or ever will build we had better make sure we take this seriously. They have targeted the financial system and under that cover intend to change the country forever. This isn't funny.
They have targeted the financial system and under that cover intend to change the country forever. This isn't funny. They can be defeated and beat at their own game without the lies and nastiness that seem to be their hallmark these last vicious years. We need a Reagan who can articulate the issues and make us all laugh at the same time. Palin comes to mind because I think she is bright, smart, capable AND funny.
She was only marginalized because McCain did not want to be upstaged. She would have and could have fought the campaign the way it should have been fought. McCain had none left
the prez is really something – it is amazing that America has foisted this pox on her house
i guess that 1976 has been long enough that America has to take some suffering again.
America has to remember the liberal policies (that bring fraud, lies, welfare, high taxes, economy and morality breakdown and crime waves) to see the lite and bounce the liberals again.
DONT BLAME ME – I DID NOT VOTE FOR JIMMY CARTER2
If only we could be nastier than the liberals.
America would be better off for the righteous nasty of eliminating the liberal menace, just as we did the communist menace in the 50's
unfortunately, the Real Americans dont have the hate to match the LIBERAL VITRIOL AND HATE
the conservative civility is what made America great and is America's only hope of returning to greatness after the zerobama fiasco.
I disagree. The very existance of the site is a giant slam against Obama. It doesn't need to bludgeon. The subtly of it is great. Plus you dont want the guy to blow his wad at the very start… this might be a very long four years . so he'll have to pace himself
Actually the Democrats calling Republican candidates dumb started before that. Adlai Stevenson was the "intellectual;" so much more intelligent that Eisenhower. And it continued with Dan Quail, who was accused of being dumb as soon as he was chosen by Bush and they could find out his college grades. The press virtually ruined the man and never let up, even though he was a better speaker than most democrats, and probably way more intelligent.
But we'll never know how "intelligent" Obama is because he won't release any of his college records, or anything else about himself that is not deemed complimentary. His speaking gaffes probably now outnumber all the Republican Candidates put together ! But the press will never tell us.
Republican leaders don't seem to have a clue, except for Limbaugh. They're still busy "making nice" with the democrats. And John McCain and his loopy daughter are the worst. Perhaps they'll wake up when they start losing their seats in Congress, but don't bet on it.
We need a new bunch of candidates who aren't afraid to fight. But they'll just be told by Michael Steele and other Republican leaders to "tone it down. You're being mean spirited!" Make you sick, doesn't it?
It is a non-story only because the MSM won't report on it. If this were a Republican president it would be in every newspaper everyday until the birth cert. was produced.
You're missing the point. We know that gaffes and public speaking shortcomings are of little consequence, but we're not the ones who decided to saturate media coverage with it. We're simply returning the favor.
Hey WR1, you guys got a brilliant strategy. Just raise taxes and keep spending an extra trillion over the budget every four months and watch the economy tank. Then tell people the Republicans should not EVER criticize because we are all afraid of losing our jobs. I mean the American Public is just a bunch of stupid Rube hicks like Palin anyway. They'll never catch on.
[...] Why The Teleprompter Gaffe-tape matters. [...]
Because the ability to glimpse a bit of another land mass from the one you govern in no way gives you any understanding of complicated international issues. It's like saying that since you've seen the outside of a hospital you're qualified to do brain surgery.
John. Seriously don't take my word for this research it. Obama has already committed now to over $15 trillion dollars in under two months. According to the Congressional Budget Office he has spent more money already than every President from Washington to Bush combined. Again, don't take my word look it up.
On top of that it came out today that his staff "underestimated" the 2010 deficit spending by $1 Trillion and the fed is going to have to pump out this money which currently doesn't exist. This is on top of the $1 trillion they've already had to create which has already cause a jump in oil prices to their highest levels since November. We are really in a true dange of hyper inflation.
One more thing John, and you won't like this, the economic problem really isn't Bush's fault…at all. Again also look into this as well. The economic problem is ultimately a spending epidemic and a problem on the whole of the American people but if you want it narrowed down to specific legislation it comes down to the Democratic driven Community Reinvestment act of 1994 and the Republican driven reversal of the Glass Stengall act in 1999. This is pretty well universally accepted by every economist.
As an independent I am defending my principles and unfortunately seem to rarely take the populist opinion. I've spent the last 3 days arguing for the AIG bonuses for crying out loud. I'm a Reagan small government Republican and a strict constructionist, I think the Republican party moistened it's finger and tested the wind and that's why they fell apart. They left me, not the other way around.
Or because you have been a community organizer, you know how to run the country, perhaps?
Kinda of smug, aren't we? Mommy and Daddy put you through where, UCLA? Berkley? Enlighten us. The fact of the matter is she is alot more like many everyday, work aday people and has more true populist appeal than the phony snob that has climbled the very ladder of success he seeks to punish. It about time we have a non-Harvard / Yale president.
Why would working in Anchorage tv news be any less worthy work — if one does it well— than working at CBS or NBC on the East Coast. ?
Perhaps its because today's headline from the local Anchorage network: "Lance Mackey Wins Third Consecutive Iditarod " with "Caribou Slaughter" being the 4th leading story in state news . Maybe I'm being elitist in believing the 4th-tiered 3:00 am newsdesk team in Baltimore would have a little more on their plate.
Oh indeed. Both in Baltimore and here in Chicago we can can count on our 3:00 a.m. news desks having a different sort of SLAUGHTER on their plates. Of course the Iditarod has a longer sports pedigree than the Baltimore Ravens do and probably generates more local interest in Anchorage than the most recent Ravens update.
Paul,
If you live in the city, you need two skills.
One, to earn money. Two, the ability to spend money. The landlord fixes your plumbing, your roof, the Chinese takeout provides cooking, and other Chinese do your laundry….
The city is there to take care of incompetent people.
A principled positive message comes first. This will include pointed judgements of those who do wickedly (whether its the WSJ supporting border amnesty or Barney Frank running a gay prositution ring). We stand for conservatism four-square with no apologies. Anyone can join the Republican Party as long as they realize that its a Bring Your Own Conservatism Big Tent, and Leave the Unconservative Parts at Home.
Laughter is neccessary, but it takes second place behind principle. If it comes first, people start thinking you're a nasty mosquito instead of a funny guy. Laughter keeps the heart bold and light, and gives us variety, and helps us make our points with subtlety in order to slip into the mushy middle's minds.
In third place, here we find the unadulterated pure venom. Most R's don't have it in them, but some do. Randians and others have the ability to lash out in ways that might make the Left wary. We don't need to stifle these folk (and NO….Coulter and Limbaugh are not among them. Coulter and Limbaugh are milder.) but just get out of their way. Its important to recognize that not every person is reached by the same message: Some people need the Hammer, although most people dislike it.
Todd, I suspect the GOP is divided between those who want to win for Conservatism, and those who want to control the Republican Party. RINOs can use the party apparatus to get good lives for themselves even as the minority party.
What we need is to get rid of fear. The Democrats are inside our heads, and that is part of what Big Hollywood is for, to create a cry for new mental furniture to replace the decades old stuff we've been afflicted by courtesy of the liberals.
I saw a lot of good responses to my point. I think we're pretty much on the same page here. Thanks.
"I'm a Reagan small government Republican and a strict constructionist,"
Then you're not an Independent, even if you call yourself one.
BTW, I agree that the Republican party also moistened its finger and tested the wind. That's why I'm a Conservative, not a Republican.
And even if we stipulate for the sake of argument that you, Brandon, are an Independent, you are not one in the mold of Mileshigh. So if the term "independent" applies equally to both of you, it's a meaningless term.
Relegating millions to servitude to Commie masters, oh, and a couple of million exterminated in Cambodia. Nice.
Not really relevant John. This residual hate, and focus on what might of,or should have been is misdirected. Either we are all IN in the Middle East, or all OUT. It's that simple. As long as we refuse to drill for our own oil the Middle East is strategically vital. So what do you do…ya, we need to be in.
And that is the key. Be ready to fight the street fight, but not go into the gutter when the other side brings out the ism's and other adhominem attacks. The party cares too much about the reaction and that paralyzes them into inaction. We need to put the truth out there and let the chips fall. We may turn off some, but I guarantee that we will get many more back. The problem is that I'm not sure who in the party is up for the fight. Too many of these current Senators and Congressmen remind me of the soft Republicans we had back in the 80's who didn't mind being in the minority as long as they got something to take home. Where are the fighters?
It isn't (less worthy) and you are (being elitist). TV news breaks down into two types: the anchors (news readers) and the reporters (the ones who get the stories). The main skill for being an anchor is the ability to read a telepromter competently and being able to connect with an audience. As we've seen, anyone can do that and the skill is the same whether its Anchorage or New York. The other is getting stories. Again, the skills are the same and the people bring the same traits and personalities whether its the Middle of Iowa or middle of D.C. If you are a true professional, your effort should be the same whether it's the #1 market or #201. The only thing that changes is the scope of the story. The stories may be different but the skills are the same.
Except in Obama's case remember how we heard before and after every major speech that he made that he either wrote it himself, wrote most or edited himself, or added something afterwards. The MSM constantly tried to make him out to be some kind of wordsmith/scholar in addition to his 'brilliant oratory'. Once again, we are finding out that emporer's wearning no clothes and the MSM only sees the finest silks and gold trim.
THIS springs immediately to mind.
I'm Ron Burgandy?
Considering the number of now ex-media people that are in the administration, that's not far from the truth.
The "she's just like one of us" boat sailed off with the Saks wardrobe bill.
Hmmm.. I never pictured the mass starvation that occurs everyday between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 10:30 am when the PF Changs is closed. Thanks for opening my eyes, Tennwriter.
Ann Coulter is an ignorant douchebag. It says volumes about you, Bonnie, that you would come to the defense of such a worthless person.
I just wonder why conservatives feel they fought "clean" in the election. From where I stand, it looked quite nasty. Now, I expect a lot of offensive responses to this, but I'm not interested in those. I'd like to hear from reasonable thinking persons.
Another question is, why fight at all? Can't we all agree that we want the best for this country, and decide our disagreements intelligently and with respect? If you think your way is the only way, where does that leave me? Am I not a part of this country? Or do you wish I weren't?
There's a great new blog by Barry's $5.3 million styrofoam Greek Columns. You should check it out! His "new kind of politics" apparently went straight into the dumpster right along with them.
Still beating that dead horse are we Paul? With all that Kool-Aid you obviously love to chug down I hope you don't have any prostate trouble.
So who actually pulls the string in your back that spews the talking points, Axelrod, Elmer Fudd Frank, or the Messiah himself?
Not even close. You can put Obammy in a tailored suit and he still rings odd. You can't camoflage phony and false, it seeps through. Conversely, people will accept Palin for what she is, Governor, Mom, Grandma, milf. That's a scary proposition for doctrineaire liberals that really don't like mainstream Americans because they don't understand or respect them. Guess what? They're beginning to figure out the got scammed by Obammy. It's gonna get ugly, the people don't know him or have much emotionally invested in him. They'll turn in a New York minute, watch.
