you are most likely correct on this; a quid pro quo on abortion is to be expected from this lot on any issue of import- perhaps the vote to not federally fund overseas abortions is red herring in all this… ultimately she most likely will be seated and one really never knows exactly what jurist will emerge- is she the reliable leftist they all want? So, a stirring debate exposing all of whcih this entails is the best we can hope for…

Further, let's put the quotes of Thomas and Alito into their context. These were said in response to Democratic Senators attempts to derail their nominations. Republicans are not the ones who are trying to set as a standard racially based empathies as a prerequisite for judging. The idea of refrencing these quotes as a defence for Sotomayor's generic elitist/racist ramblings is ludicrious. Except for Democrats insisting that these gppd men publicly genuflect at the altar of PC, neither would have ever made any such kind of public pronouncement.

It's funny you leave out the words prefacing the Latina comment: "Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences, a possibility I abhor less or discount less than my colleague Judge Cedarbaum, our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging." Dear Dr Lawhawk

I am bald American and that really makes me suffer. I want a judge to have empathy with my situation. But it´s tricky. If a judge has a full head of hair, does that mean he cannot understand my plight? Probably, although I suppose he could feel sorry for me in a condescending way. But am I better off with a bald judge? What if he has a chip on his shoulder? If he hates his baldness, could he subconsciously project that onto me? My baldness might tick him off.

What to do? Wear a wig? Pretend I just shave my head? What if his dog was run over by a man with a shaved head? Then I´m screwed. What shall I do?
