Tina Fey: Downright Mean
by Jason Killian MeathTina Fey recently won an Emmy for her uncanny resemblance and venomous impersonation of Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin. In accepting her award, Fey was her typical, obloquious self saying, “Mrs. Palin is an inspiration to working mothers everywhere because she bailed on her job right before Fourth of July weekend. You are living my dream. Thank you, Mrs. Palin!”
2008 marked a departure from the memorable, more cordial years of Chevy Chase as a clumsy Gerald Ford or Dana Carvey’s hilarious H.W. Bush: “wouldn’t be prudent.” Fey was downright mean.
For her part, Palin was an easy target — a conservative woman and mother. And seemingly abhorrent to Fey and friends, Palin had small town values, a small town family and — as Fey chafed on Palin’s world view — “I can see Alaska from my house.” The impersonations were sometimes funny, but more often foul. ”I believe marriage is meant to be a sacred institution between two unwilling teenagers…,” Fey roasted during one of the skits… an innuendo on Palin’s pregnant, unwed daughter. Her satire strayed from the issues into catty, sexist territory — intellect, pregnancy, family attacks and even sexual riffs.
Lucky for Fey, she runs with a highly elitist, bi-coastal posse — the NY-LA intellectuals who are free from the burdens of conservatism. They’re free thinkers who celebrate their contribution to the world as they scream at the doorman for not having their Town Car ready. Palin was an unknown from a far away place, she didn’t stand a chance with this crowd.
Conveniently, this cadre of smarty pants run NBC. When the Palin impersonation generated some water cooler buzz, NBC gave her a whole SNL special, and then another and another — right before the election. By then, Palin and Fey had become fused (at least on TV). She was good at playing Palin. Too good. If you turned down the volume, it was impossible to tell the two apart. The result was, at the very least, chinks in the Alaska governor’s armor.
Fey’s Emmy is just icing on the cake; Saturday Night Live ought to be crying “Thank You!” to Ms. Fey for making the expiring show relevant again. The irony has not been lost on most observers: it was another woman who utterly ripped apart one of the first women on a Presidential ticket. Can one imagine Eddie Murphy returning to SNL to lambast Obama night after night weeks before the campaign? And NBC clearing blocks in their prime time schedule in order to promote more time to bash Barack? Of course not.
Ironically, Fey’s years of appearances on SNL were never as remarkable as her return to play Palin. When Fey starred in the forgettable “Baby Mama,” some critics noticed a lack of big screen pizzazz. Funny how a feisty governor from Wasilla can move blockbuster-sized crowds, riveting American TV viewers overnight during the 2008 Convention, but Fey couldn’t turn years of training on SNL and stand up comedy into any great cinematic effect. Okay, now I’m being cruel — apologies.
This is one backbiting impersonation that has had its 15 minutes. In a nation that craves to sort its entertainers and politicians into nice, neat bins, please file Fey’s Sarah Palin ’satire’ in the heap of tiresome fads like Flash Mobs, Snoop Dogg Ring Tones and Napolean Dynamite. Are these things the world might have been better off without? You Betcha.

"She was good at playing Palin. Too good. If you turned down the volume, it was impossible to tell the two apart."
I would respectfully disagree. Governor Palin was far more attractive–inside and out. Even Tina Fey admitted that Sarah Palin was better looking.
In the long run-no one will remember Fey and few will forget Palin!
I can't even count the number of non-politically involved people I've talked to who think Sarah Palin is an idiot for no really clear, explainable reason. That is, when I ask them why they think that, they draw a blank. It's just something they "know"…somehow. It's because of Tina Fey's charicature on SNL.
This has done insurmountable damage to Gov. Palin's image among casual (i.e. non-party aligned) voters.
It's a shame, really, but we need to cut our losses and find someone electable to support on the 2012 ticket.
Dear Ms. Fey,
Of all people you should understand how difficult it is being a professional woman and having a family. It is women like yourself who denigrate working women such as Mrs Palin that make it hard on the rest of us who are trying to be taken seriously in the work place. By making fun of one of the most visible working women in the US, Palin, you are helping to perpetuate the myth that it is alright to make fun of mothers in the work place, especially in places of power such as Palin.
As for her leaving her post, it is possible–like she has told us on numerous occasions–that Palin was unable to do her job due to the constant distraction from law suits and that she felt more comfortable leaving rather than taking a paycheck and not being able to devote 100 percent to her job. That is actually a possibility.
Perhaps you cannot understand the damage your tacky rants have had. Your words marginalize women not just Palin–got it?
Sarah Palin should be a source of inspiration for all women not the target of ridicule. You may not agree with her politics, but tearing her apart is not the answer. Honestly, I really do not know how you sleep at night. I couldn't be comfortable treating another human the way you and others have treated Sarah Palin. It is mean-spirited and cruel.
Good luck with your Emmy. I hopes it helps you feel better about yourself.
Sarah Palin – drop-dead gorgeous, both inside & out.
Tiny Fey – scars on her face and deeper scars on her pysche.
When Sarah Palin walked on SNL in while Tina Fey was walking off, you could see the difference. Sarah Palin is dynamic, energetic, and attractive, not to mention downright ballsy to go on when they are ripping her apart. That had to intimidate the meek little puppies at SNL, especially Fey, who comes off like a plain llbrarian who rails on you for a book 2 days late. Pain is an authentic person who would bury her fake ass in 2 minutes.
You betcha. It's amazing the number of people who think Palin really said "I can see Russia from my house."
So Fey gets an Emmy- just as Katie Couric got a Cronkite for her own hatchet job on Miz Sarah. Sad times.
"find someone electable to support on the 2012 ticket."
My optimistic side says that we could win in 2012 with a sack of laundry, as long as it said "I'm not Obama."
Tina Fey is still in high school. Mrs. Palin has her Doctorate.
Right there with ya, Tom. though sometimes it goes even further. I got a cousin who's the sweetest girl in the world — not a mean bone in her body — but the other day she casually mentions that Sarah Palin is crazy as if it's a well known fact. Has no idea why… just something she heard one time.
Our national debate now seems to exist primarily on the level of innuendo.
Don't wright-off Palin yet. Remember, America would never elect some "affable, but dumb B-movie actor."
Palin is just as "stupid" as Reagan. So I have high hopes.
Fey has a big stick up her ass. Totally dispensable 'celebrity' destined for footnotes.
You are right about Tina Fey saving SNL last season with her Palin shtick.
And whenever SNL has a "breakout" character, they milk it for all its worth. How many times did they run and rerun those political themed prime time specials?
Now, it's done. SNL, and the comedians who have roasted Bush, Chaney, Republicans, had one last hurrah with Palin, now they have to move on.
We'll see if SNL has the guts to start taking swipes at thier beloved new President this season.
I doubt it.
John: Excellent, very excellent. Another point: Tina Fey's constant slamming of Palin took attention away from the incontrivertible truth that Palin's economic ideas for the country were 180 degrees different, and superior, to Obama's socialist ideas. Our economy will suffer for at least 4 years due to this "hidden" truth. Our MSM, aided in '08 by SNL, has done our country a grave dis-service. Socialism and more govt spending/taxes, and less drilling, is a prescription for further disaster. But it's Obama's and Pelosi's prescription.
The world's Irony Quotient has been met for at least the next century. Good, enlightened liberals are mewling and spitting like alley cats because an intelligent, accomplished woman "has it all." Tina Fey and her sort seem to want uppity women like Sarah Palin to pipe down and get back to the kitchen.
I can understand why. Sarah Palin is not only a gorgeous beauty queen and a sports dynamo, but, in a short time, rose by her own talents and merit to the highest position in her state. To twist the knife in the hearts of withered shrews like Maureen Dowd, she also has a handsome, virile husband and, so far as we can tell, a happy and contented home life.
How that must sting, when those bitter, angry, dried-up, pinched, venomous witches slump back to their lonely condos with nothing to succor them but their rage. How's that working out, ladies?
Figures. In the news the following day they played the part of her speech where the thanks her "lifelong republican parents for their patience". I thought maybe I was too hard on her. Sometimes I hate being right all along.
I may be missing something, Who the hell is Tina Fey?
Tina Fey is a class clown. She will never achieve a fraction of what Sarah Palin has. I think she knows it, and is jealous of it.
I agree with everything except the part about Napoleon Dynamite. That, I'll never tire of
This blurring of the line between reality and make believe is what makes a dolt like Oliver Stone so dangerous. How many people believe his made up stories are historical fact?
The problem with your argument is that, singlehandedly, Sarah Palin, with her "death panel" facebook remarks and an op ed in the Wall Street Journal, completely and utterly changed the course of the healthcare debate. She exposed it, with just two little words and as no one previously was able to do, for the sham that it is and the fact that "healthcare" in reality means nothing less than government takeover of every aspect of our lives.
You are writing her off and telling us to move on much, much too soon.
I like Palin's foreign diplomacy in 'Who's Nalin' Palin?' Taking on thsoe Russians was a 'Big' deal and look that good after all those kids.
To me it is the intent. If a professional wants to be funny at the expense of a national figure that is OK. But Tina Fey, Chevy Chase and 99% of the people on Sat Night Live desire to hurt.
Chevy Chase took an all american football player and graceful athlete and made him into a clumsy dufus. Tina Fey attacked an entire family in even a worse manner but for the same purpose as Chase.
To me they are prostitutes. They sell their integrity, talent, professionalism for political value and money.
Is this article relevant to anything new or is it just more loser whining?
Umm…Fey is herself a working mother who's quite successful in her field. Whatever you think of her Palin impression, it's highly doubtful Fey wants to keep women out of the workplace. That's a ridiculous conclusion. By the way, Fey is happily married with a child of her own.
Pretty much just more whining…over old news as Fey won the Emmy over a week ago.
The emmy won't make Fey feel better about herself. Like the Head Narcissist In Chief (Obama) the only thing that will make Fey feel better about herself is when her adoring fans supplicate themselves at her feet. Think 'Ruby Rod' in the Bruce Willis movie, "The Fifth Element."
Actually, she's kind of an old fashioned success: started as an actress, worked for years as a writer, became head writer of SNL, then got her own show which has pretty much raked in awards & recognition since it began. You may not like her work, but she worked her way to the top the old fashioned way…with hard work. As one of the few women to achieve that, she'll get more than footnotes.
We’ll see, as far a Ms. Palin is concerned whether or not she can reclaim her caricature driven by Ms. Fey, I think she can. As far as 2012 is concerned if Barry continues with his leftist trajectory, the right runs someone with a pulse, and we win. The big focus for “conservatives” should be 2010, we must not look past the midterms, and like the left vote regular and often.
The notable thing about the Obama victory is that black female voter turnout was higher than white male turnout. That was competely new to American politics. Understandably, Obama motivated every black person who could to show up at the polling place and cast a vote. McCain did not excite anyone.
White male voter turnout was lower than normal. There is no question that in 2012, Obama will again benefit from Black racialist motivation, regardless of any programs, policies or effects. What he appears to be losing though are those white swing voters in Ohio, Pennsylvannia, Florida, et al.
The Democrats are obviously going to lose clout in the 2010 elections. Obama is going to play the Hispanic card next year over immigration. How that battle impacts Hispanic voters, and how the economy re-acts in 2011 will be the overriding elements in 2012 barring some unforseen national defense problems. What is that old jewish curse? "May you live in interesting times".
Tina Fey is a one-trick pony as far as star power. On a more important note, if the FEC prevails in its quest to assert the authority to suppress Hillary the Movie, one must ask why they did not land equally on Tina Fey's attacks on Palin?
Agreed. I would still vote for her in a heartbeat. D the torpedoes, full speed ahead!
Again who is Trina Fay?
Comics were just as mean to Clinton during the Lewinsky Affair. And they were just as funny. Palin QUIT for money! What a wimp. Even poor Mark Sanford, living with TONS more stress, hasn't quit. Good for him, but bad for Palin. I'd support Sanford over Palin just for perseverance alone.
I'm dying to see Tina Fey play the "prostitute" and sting ACORN offices on SNL. Now THAT would be hilarious but it isn't going to happen. Such rich comedy fodder and it will go untouched…..
Tina Fey winning an Emmy, or having a show on NBC, is nothing more than Mary Jane average winning funniest gal at the company Christmas, er, " Holiday" party. It's nothing more than a self-congratulatory ceremony for a small group of people who think, work, and hang out together.
It's meaningless and it's irrelevant. Nobody in the real world cares!
If Ronald Reagan can over come a movie where a monkey was his co-star than given enough time to refine her political game and gain more knowledge she can easily get her "monkey" off her back and Fey will be as much an after thought as Bozo was for Reagan.
Please clear something up for me. Not all Conservatives are cruel and insulting, only some of them. Is that correct?
Clever but not clever enough. You would support Sanford? Your remark suggests you lie. If you would support "perseverance alone," then you must have supported Bush over the attacks of eight years. But I suspect not.
Sarah Palin has the world in front of her while Tina Fey is stuck inside the myopic and provincial black box.
Hollywood gave it their all yet Palin has multiple speaking engagements, is authoring a book, is developing a following where ever she goes.
Lastly, anyone who has the guts to pawn the Democrat Party's playbook
knows exactly what they are doing.
It's actually her 6th Emmy…she's won the others for SNL and 30 Rock. So, yeah, I'd imagine she feels pretty good about it.
A bunch of pitiful liberal slugs sit around in a circle jerk cackling and squealing in delight over Tina Feys juvenile mockery of Sarah Palin, who they’re deeply jealous of, and predictably award this liberal airhead with a trophy that no one outside of West Hollywood cares about.
It isn't clear in your article that Sarah Palin said neither "I can see Russia from my house" nor "I can see Alaska from my house."
The original quote was "You can see Russia from Alaska," which was interesting, surprising and relevant to many until Fey rewrote the quote and repeated the rewrite endlessly to, successfully, make Palin look like a fool.
I don't know about that. It was a different time although not that long ago. I think the media in general still had a concept of what their job was. They still were aware of the principle of objectivity, even if they didn't employ it 100% of the time. This generation's media thinks their job is to enlighten the rest of us about the right way (as they see it), not to give us the facts and let us decide. The media 25 years ago would have told both sides of a story, although reluctantly, and they might have left out SOME good things about someone they disagreed with. THIS media will bury anything good, exploit anything bad, and straight up make things up.
So why are 40+ people here b*tching about it then?
Palin for President = Four more years of Obama. That is just the way it is.
I agree. Reagan was mocked constantly by the same kind of people. What, he never should have been elected?
No matter who is the nominee, the leftist entertainment-media complex will go after that person mercilessly.
The funny thing is most Americans can relate to Sarah Palin and not snobs like Tina Fey. How else can you describe the huge crowds she draws wherever she goes.

Basically you are saying that 6 Emmys help her forget that she is setting back working moms with her mockery of Palin? Am I correct? Just trying to understand your comment.
I don't hate Fey. I think she is funny and she has made a name for herself. That's wonderful. However, it was after she mocked Palin on SNL that she became widely known. I thought we all knew that? As for 30 Rock…I have thought about watching it but can't be bothered. It's a fringe show with not very good ratings, isn't it?
But will this current form of media still be in existence by 2016? I don't think that Palin should run for 2012 but by 2016 she will have had almost a decade of time to learn and have banked years of political currency since she was treated like the media's red headed stepchild. The route that the media is taking right now is a nose dive into the Marianas Trench if they keep splitting the cultural divide the way they are now. When two kids expose one of the biggest stories of the decade and no one in the journalist community was brave enough, it's just another crack in their castle walls. But we shall see, perhaps you are right and I am to optimistic with society.
This woman (and all those involved with SNL) has no shame. Not only do they use and abuse Sarah Palin for the benefit of their careers, but then the indusry rewards it.
They are all beneath contempt. Every single person involved with it, and everyone in the audience who cheered it on.
"worked her way to the top"? The top of what? A couple of TV shows? She's no major talent or legend material. SNL? Buried alive years ago.
Stop 100 people in the street today and see how many know who see is.
Try it again in 10 – 50 years and then go check the footnote department 0f Wiki 2050. She be as well remembered as Bob Burns or Stoopnaglee and Bud or Kanye West..
The only legitimate criticism of Palin's..shall we say, "worldliness" I've run across was that interview with Couric regarding what she reads. Never mind that Couric could have given Fey a run for her money with regard to sheer nastiness and liberal snobbery; the large group of voters who think those publications are still relevant and that reading them is a sign of intelligence were not impressed. Other than that, no, there's really nothing anyone can lay their finger on. Even if she did say "I can see Russia from my house,"…so? We're supposed to forget every other time a politician has engaged in hyperbole now? How idiotic. I don't know, though, that Palin's a total loss in 2012. She gained a bit of credibility back this year, I think, especially with the Letterman fiasco, which may have mitigated the reaction to her resignation a bit. Even my college newspaper, which is generally left-of-center on most things, suggested that Palin may have just resigned so her family wouldn't get caught up in the media frenzy any longer, and if so, who could blame her? So I guess we'll see.
SNL is the moshpit for eldely comics
On the other hand, the sum total of Tina Fey's career will always be her Sarah Palin impression. No matter what Fey does from here on, no matter where she goes, everything she does from now on will be judged against the Sarah Palin standard. So while Fey may have impacted the election, she'll never get the Sarah Palin monkey off her back.
So imagine with me now: Tiny Fey gets up in the morning, looks in the mirror—sees Sarah Palin. In the shower, when she talks to herself, she hears Sarah Palin's voice. Fey goes out to eat, and 17 people all shout "Fabulous Sarah Palin." For the rest of her life, all she'll hear is Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin … .
Then I must be beneath contempt because I thought it was funny.
(Though, to be fair, I do think they went to the Palin well a couple times too many once they realized they were back in the cultural spotlight again and that it was only a matter of time before people stopped talking about it.)
As for Fey, I'm a fan and I enjoy 30 Rock but I admit SNL still wasn't that funny when she was head writer (and it's a shame since some of the performers are really good but they lack material). Baby Mama was forgettable (it wasn't a project she originated) but I thought Mean Girls was much better than it should've been (Fey co-starred and adapted the screenplay).
As for me, I've done improv training (like Fey and the rest of the SNL cast) and I tentatively plan on continuing improv training in NY. I don't know what will happen but I would hate to be called shameless because of my associations. When it comes to the political humor, I can only try to be even-handed.
I do agree with the poster that summed it by saying, it really is an attack on your average conservative working mom. When I think of the Governor, and all her instant media exposure, all I remember is the grace and honesty in her answers and communication.
It's too bad the media was hell bent on twisting and editing her to make her appear in a different less flatering light…. but slowly they are getting theres, just look at Charlie Gibson, I guess he is so busy getting his Ph D. in 'Bush Doctrine' studies that he missed the biggest media story of the year, how two novice journalist went undercover and EXPOSED ACORN for fraud and abuse…and how these two novists forced both the SENATE and the HOUSE to defund this corrupt political arm of the Democratic party. WOW! Has Charlie ever had that kind of impact with his 'journalism'
yes, revenge is a dish best served cold!!
Think that is a Chinese curse…
The problem here is that Palin has been relegated to Quayle-esque branding. Because of Fey's moronic portrayals of Palin, far too many people will not listen to Palin or consider her ideas and vision in the future.
While Palin may continue to have some sway in conservative circles, there can be no doubt that as long as the fringe media perceives success in savaging her, we can only expect their efforts to become even MORE savage (Letterman, who should have been horse-whipped) and much more despicable… sort of the 2008 election cycle increased geometrically.
Fey and NBC will be responsible for removing any chance for Palin to become president. And they will point to that with pride.
And that is a damned shame. Palin could certainly hold her own on a level playing field; after all, that empty-suited, anti-American racist bigot in the White House is like the Platte River: a mile wide, but an inch deep.
If Tina Fey wanted to kiss Sarah Palin's ass, she'd need a trampoline.
[...] from: Tina Fey: Downright Mean This entry is filed under America – Blogs, Big Hollywood. You can follow any responses to this [...]
Bullcrap. The arrogance of Sarah Pain for even accepting the nomination for vice president, is what made her an excellent target for the SNL skits. The only ones who are responsible for the Republican party being bankrupt in the area of having top grade national leaders…….are the Republicans. It was a joke that Mrs. Palin was ever even considered to be intelligent enough to possibly be our president, if something happened to the old guy. When someone came along and did such a great job of pointing out that joke, you blame her.
Next time, nominate Rush Limbaugh. That would be a lot of fun (and another great failure for you guys).
I agree. Palin proved that she still has quite a bit of influence even with the lefty attacks. I haven't seen another Republican that has moved the discussion as much as she has.
Your memory is highly selective.
Comics were VERY careful to portray Clinton as a Naughty Boy, meticulously avoiding any hints about his abuses of power (use of Secret Service agents as panders, getting Lewinsky a cushy job above her resume in the Pentagon, punitive suppression of "bimbo eruptions", not to mention perjury). They played into the MSM template that "it was just about sex."
Palin's decision to resign, in the face of numerous petty lawsuits which interfered with her ability to govern the state, and which was costing her hundreds of thousands in legal fees, not to mention the stress on her family, was both the right and strategically sensible action to take.
Small wonder you prefer Sanford. In failing to act in the interests of his state and his family, he's acting just like a Democrat.
Naturally your guy, B.O., is probably considered by you to be eminently qualified for the office with a resume a mile long.
Who is b*tching; Just pointing out a fact. At 3:00 am this truth must eat away at Fey, as she realizes that her acceptance by the left is based entirely on HATE and her meanness of spirit.
Deep down, regardless of her money, I would think it kind of sucks to be her!
ANYONE who criticizes the selection of Gov. Palin and mentions NOT Øbama's selection of that bird-brained, idiot Biden, he of the plugs, chiclet capped teethed and flimsy grasp of U.S. history (Roosevelt went on TV when the stockmarket crashed in '29) is of the same mental capacity (that is to say, LOW) as said Biden.
I'm for the Saracuda!
Entirely too many.
I'm saying Fey is hardly slamming working moms when she is one herself. (in fact she has widely said that it was her toddler daughter's seeing Palin on tv and exclaiming "mommy!" was the final bit of convincing she needed to do the parody.) She has also said that the best thing about the writer's strike was her being able to spend more time with her daughter. Her acceptance comment reflects the fact that it's hard to do both, and she probably has wanted to quit several times herself, especially before a holiday weekend. Re: ratings– "30 Rock" is certainly no 'Seinfeld' or 'Friends, but it's doing quite well…in fact, the SNL parody has helped it immensely.
Right on Kit about ugly Liberal women, I can name a few more, Maxine Waters, Patty Murray, Debbie Wasserman Shultz, Rachael Maddow( not sure about gender) Patrica Schroder, Whoopie Goldberg,Barbara mackowski, Rosie O Donnell, and many many more. What stands out with those women is they have no soul, their ugly within and vicious. Sarah Palin has outword beauty and inward beauty Her intelligence would wipe the floor with those Liberal hags.
What results from the "political satire" of SNL, Stewart, etc. is that their audiences are almost wholly incapable of differentiating between fantasy and reality. I recently had a debate with a leftie I know is reasonably intelligent and the topic turned to President Bush's sometimes unclear statements. To support his position that Bush was unintelligent he made the claim that after 9-11 Bush made the statement "the future ain't what it used to be." I googled that phrase and it was originally said by Yogi Berra. I could find no instances where Bush repeated that sentiment only that he was a big fan of Berra and his inventive use of the English language. I proposed to my friend that he had probably heard some half-wit comedian attribute that to Bush or if Bush did say it, take it wholly out of context. My friend admitted he never heard Bush make that statement.
The moral of the story is for the most part we are dealing with an opposition that receives its opinions from the likes of SNL and Stewart and it is up to us to expose the false premises upon which those opinions are based. Otherwise, true policy debates will never occur and no real progress will ever be made on any of the problems facing this country.
The top of her chosen profession, one that it's very difficult to make a living in, let alone succeed. And I'm going to say that if you stopped 100 people on the street, 85 would know who she was, whether they like her or not. Heck–67 people have responded here and only 2 or 3 archly claim to not know who she is.
I wonder how Tina Fey got that prominent facial scar. A dueling society?
If it were not for Sarah Palin, I would never have known who Tina Fey was.
This is why the liberals are terrified of Mrs. Palin:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaLPEoAoV2g
When was the last time you saw a politician be open and honest about this sort of personal trial?
From the aforementioned Vanity Fair article:
–Liz Lemon favors her right side. That’s because a faint scar runs across Tina Fey’s left cheek, the result of a violent cutting attack by a stranger when Fey was five. Her husband says, “It was in, like, the front yard of her house, and somebody who just came up, and she just thought somebody marked her with a pen.” You can hardly see the scar in person.–

If Fey did in Palin, how come Sarah, with the simple bottom-line summary "There will be Death Panels" on her Facebook account, wrecked the All Powerful Obaama's socialist train?
"The problem with your argument is that, singlehandedly, Sarah Palin, with her 'death panel' facebook remarks and an op ed in the Wall Street Journal, completely and utterly changed the course of the healthcare debate."
That's overstating the case. The hulabaloo at the townhall meetings began before Palin weighed in. Obama never really had momentum on his side, and he seemed to know it; that's why he pushed Congress to ram it through before August. Nobody bought the idea that reform would save money, and none of his magical speeches helped the cause.
Not to take away what was for Palin a surprisingly effective flanking maneuver. But I think Obamacare was going to tank anyway.
Yes James – you are correct, Palin never had the intelligence to work for ACORN and help in opening neighbored brothels staffed with underage illegal alien girls from El Salvador with the American taxpayers dollar. You have a real winner in the White House this time.
In fact I think the impersonation was wholly, fundamentally bad. Fey is not only the wrong body-type (sharp and vulpine to Palin's softer, rounder feminine) but wrong in her sense of Palin's spirit. The entire thing was a malicious liberal comic conceit working with good costume design.
Wow. You really do need to listen to Sarah's speech at Tarnsman's link above. Sarah is absolutely wonderful. Talk about "transparency."
Yeah, the same way they "remember" J. Danford Quayle (referring to the latter)…

Ever notice how Republicans are always dumb and Democrats brilliant (even while failing), according to the MSM? Bush II, Reagan, Ford: dumb, dumb, dumb. Bush I: the "thin-lipped C-student"; Eisenhower: like your uncle, when he's not an empty suit.
Meanwhile, Obama is a Constitutional expert and wrote the greatest political memoir in U.S. history. Gore was a consumate Man of Science, endlessly waring against philistines. Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar. Jimmuh Carter was a nuclear technician. Kennedy was at home with the "Whiz Kids"; FDR surrounded by the Brain Trust. Adlai Stevenson, if history books mention him at all, is always found alongside the word "egghead".
Well if (he) can not manage to win a second term, with the entire yellow-stream media in his front pocket and unlimited funding from both Hypocritwood and 'one world' Soreass, not to mention all the (paid) volunteers from community action groups…..he will have been outed for the dim minded, race-baiting, America hating, libelous liberal statist that is behind the mask.
FeyFan-
Save your breath. and try and get some reality going in your life. '85 out of 100 would know who she is'? Haha. Like the guy below, I never heard of her until she did her SP imitations.
Totally to be forgotten entity except in Parade or Entertainment Tonight.
The reason that SNL went so hard after her is that she dared to run against "the chosen one". They felt that Obama was far ahead the better candidate (they were wrong). So to them, it was right to do anything fair or unfair to destroy her. For this Ms. Fey got a Emmy, and tomorrow she will get another Emmy, not for performance on 30 Rock (which I don't get, guess that's just me. Give me Barney Miller anytime), but for her work to have THE ONE named president by destroying a good woman.
And this shows the incompatance of the McCain outfit. Instead of putting Palin on friendlier shows like Rush and Hannity. He put her on with Couric and Gibson.
This is why certain people in our party (namely Michael Mevded and Sean Hannity) need to end the hero worship of this man. Thank him for his service to his country and party and just let him sit on the sidelines.
Well he is really well qualified to work in the front office, of the California office of Acorn.
I remember SNLs "lampooning" of a newly elected President Clinton. Clinton on his morning jog with Secret Service agents runs into a McDonald's, dispenses "smartest guy in the room" policy wonk intel while he scarfs down food left and right. Good natured ribbing with Clinton as Wonkus Extremus Intelligentius. That seems to be always the formula. Build up lib dems while ridiculing conservatives with their "out of date" values. That won't change. Period. (Well that's the impetus behind Big Hollywood, to inject some of our side into the culture)
I'd advise Tina Fey to polish up her Sarah Palin impression for after the 2013 inauguration address.
No way is Fey better looking then Sarah. When they stand side by side it's pretty easy to see the difference.
Funny that Jason doesn't mention her very successful show 30 Rock when he's talking about her supposed post SNL slide into obscurity.
If you don't want Sarah Palin, you must bring back honest Abe…
I disagree, Tina Fey is the class bully that spreads mean gossip and torments new kids and outcasts. A class clown would have more class.
I would not be surprise if Tina Fey pull a Bill Maher gutter and over the top "I hate America monologue."
If you want to bring in some underage girls from El Salvador to be prostitutes, as Community Organizer Barack is your "go to" guy!!!
And yet another of my posts goes to the dreaded "site admin". I've got to learn to stop using the word "an@lysis".
And she has a sense of humor – in addition to lots of character
To be fair, it's entirely too early to see where Fey's career goes. I'm sure 30 Rock will continue for several years but after that… who knows? Will she headline another series? Will she star in films (I personally don't see that happening)?
Or will she end up like SNL's Laraine Newman or Nora Dunn and do voiceover work and the occasional guest appearance on TV?
