I use the FOBUS holster for my Walther, though I'm thinking I'll eventually have to make my own; one, because I can, two, because I have a weird "inside out" draw I'm most comfortable with, that requires a left-hand holster in the small of my back raked WAY rearward. I draw right-handed, my hand palm facing outward from my body as it goes behind my back, grasp and pull, and twist my wrist clockwise as my hand moves along my leg and the weapon presents. Its weird, its John Wesley Harding, but it is so smooth and easy for me, compared to any other presentation draw I've tried. I step back with my right foot as I present with a Weaver stance. Lots of motion, but it all looks like I'm backing up trying to avoid a confrontation and take out my wallet, until you see that ugly little pistol coming up.
Can you use those concealed carry purses, or do you have open carry?

Some actors get good training, others like Eric Pierpoint are actual owners. I don't know if it was Gary Graham that put him on it or not.
Everyone in my household knows how to clear a weapon, from the youngest to the oldest.

Try to get to a range that allows gun rental, so you can try all kinds of different firearms. Some folks can't deal with the shotgun recoil well. If you get a firearm with a large enough stopping caliber that you handle well, you're in a much better position, because you'll shoot it, practice with it, learn it. Some people advocate hand cannons always; I don't, because you have to be able to deliver lead on target; otherwise, why bother? That's why I hate hearing about people buying a gun to "scare" someone. If it clears the leather on a draw to deal with a life or death situation, "scare" is not an option. Same with "wounding" or "shooting the gun from their hand". If you are using that weapon to save your life, STOP THE BAD GUY! I don't want to read about how one of my dear friends here was murdered because they were trying to scare a meth or crack addict. You do not reach consensus or negotiate with rabid dogs, you make sure you are the one left standing at the end of the "discussion".

I applaud Burn Notice for generally proper firearms handling. In the finale, fingers were off triggers (except when bad guys were getting shot) and upon being handed a handgun, Michael actually press checks it to confirm loaded status. I wonder how much of that is purposeful and how much of that is simply the actors actual knowledge of proper behavior with firearms.

It does have a way of focusing the mind, that "clack-clack" sound! I use a Mossy 590.
I've listened to the debate about the LTL first round...this is my PERSONAL decision; everyone else should decide according to their own circumstances, I'm no lib, here to tell you what to do. If I have to employ lethal force, (which is what a firearm is), in a circumstance to protect life: to me, someone inside my home is considered by me and mine to be there to harm US personally, not loot the place. Therefore, the first, last, and every round in between is going to be as lethal as I and the tool can make it. I cannot justify even one shot being anything less than a probable killshot.
Another thing people should do; find the lawyer cops use in firearm related defense cases, and use them to defend you, or at least get a preliminary consult. Second, memorize the following statement, and say it to everyone if you are ever in the quandary of having to had used lethal force. "I WAS IN FEAR OF MY LIFE." Lather, rinse, repeat. Do not equivocate, do not waver, say it over and over again. No other statement. If you can say nothing until said lawyer arrives, so much the better, but make sure you say that first during ANY questioning, which starts immediately after the shooting when someone, neighbor, family, etc., anyone shows up. Your mouth will put you away faster than anything you had to do.

But then someone will attack you with a bigger board with a bigger nail in it, so you'll have to build an even bigger board and bigger nail. Then the cycle of violence will never stop....Won't someone please think of the children?!

Very good info..I actually have a less lethal rounds of rubber buckshot for number 1, if they are still moving after that rounds 2,3,and 4 are #8 buckshot.... and I agree. The sound of a round being chambered into a Mossberg 500 is a very effective attention device....:)
