TV Warnings About Victim Disarmament Zones
by John LottThe season finale of “Burn Notice,” entitled “Lesser Evil,” involves Michael Weston (Jeffrey Donovan) trying to keep both himself and Madeline Weston, his mom (Sharon Gless), safe from some angry spies. Madeline and Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell) are surrounded by those bad spies and Madeline makes what to many may seem like an obvious suggestion.
Madeline Weston: Should I call the police?
Sam Axe: No, that would make it way too easy for them. Cops take us to the station — they know where we are and they know that we are unarmed.
The segment reminded me of an even even more politically incorrect show: “The Rifleman.” The episode entitled “The Anvil Chorus” aired on December 17, 1962, and is summarized this way:
Blacksmith Nils Swenson (Joe Higgins) is asked to serve as temporary Marshall for the town. He asks all the citizens to check their guns at the Marshall’s office while they are in town. His intention is to make the town safer, but that is NOT the result. When three thugs arrive and begin to cause trouble, the unarmed citizens have no means to protect themselves. Lucas (Chuck Connors) is summoned to help rescue Mark (Johnny Crawford) and the Marshall.
As a friend of mine noted to me, “Of course, Lucas relies on his gun to secure Mark’s rescue.” The episode of “Burn Notice” might not seem as relevant to most people as the above episode of “The Rifleman” (after all, when you’re not dealing with spies, research shows that police are quite effective in deterring criminals), but it stills gets the point across. When guns are banned, instead of making things safe for the victims, you make things safe for the criminals. Instead of gun free zones deterring criminals, they actually serve as a magnet for them.
Is it really surprising that all the multiple victim public shootings in the United States where more than three people have been killed have all taken place where permitted concealed handguns are not allowed? Or that states that pass right-to-carry laws have a 60 percent drop in multiple victim public shootings and that to the extent these attacks still occur, they overwhelmingly take place in those few areas with the state where permitted concealed handguns are not allowed?

There is simply no way I will EVER turn my guns over. I simply will have to be shot down first. I know it seems extreme, but I was a Military Brat, also served myself, and am convinced to my core that it is my right – and if they are able to pull something like this off – I don't want to live in this country or any other at that point.
I cringe at the thought of Goose Stepping Birkenstocks coming to my door to take my guns……not happening.

Mexico has very restrictive gun laws and Juarez has become the murder capital of the world. El Paso, across the Rio Grande, has much less stringent gun laws and is one of the safest major cities in the United States. Go figure.

Thanks for posting a common sense approach to the “gun free zone” surrender sheeple that are overwhelming our culture and nation.
Just one resent example:
When that murdering swine went into that shopping mall a year or so ago in the mid-west, he knew that even the mall security cops were unarmed and defenseless, (not to mention the shoppers), because the mall had posted a “Gun Free Zone” sign all around their mall.
It was an open invitation to slaughter innocents to this madman.
If the sign had read “5 out of 10 People in this Mall are Armed” does anyone doubt for a second he would have even began his shooting spree?

I am always reminded of a quote by Robert Heinlein, SF Writer, "An armed socieity is a polite socieity". It maybe simple, but it expresses my thoughts exactly.
I think about the police station scene in Terminator #1, also. There are not enough police to protect me at all times where I live, where I work, where I walk, and in the pews. I protect myself, and the sons, always. I ignore those "Gun Free Zone" signs because I can. So far.

The rifleman was a great old show from another time. It was crafted in a make believe land with make believe situations. It was never real nor was it a real portrayal of guns in the West
Mexico has plenty of guns – and it is more unsafe than ever. Because the police are corrupt and because people would rather run away to slave wages in McDonalds than face down the corruption and build a better nation.
Citizens have to defend themselves and make their countries work – it takes much more than access to guns.
There are no "Weapon Shops of Isher" where only the right people have guns that are invincible and protect people from a corrupt government.

Mexican citizens DO NOT have plenty of guns. Only the criminals in Mexico are well armed and there is a ban on weaponry of most types. THe Mexican government has correctly feared another 1919 type revolutin in their nation again. Which is a shame since it is obviously what the place has needed since about 1921.
The Police in Mexico are corrupt because there is no way for the common man to defend themselves against them. If the Federales were afraid of being shot each time they shook down a traveller, there would be less of it going on.
Yesterday, I went to the gun show here in central NM.
Normally, I go to the door, get the obligatory questions about, "Do you have a gun?" (which they do all the time; to make sure its unloaded, and to run a zip-tie through the feed and ejection ports to hold the bolts, slides, etc., open. I immediately think about the guy wanting to do mischief, who clips it off with a Leatherman tool, but they would be provoking an argument with all the other folks in the room, also with guns and Leatherman tools). I then pay my entry fee, and start looking.
Yesterday was different, and I've been going for years. There was a line. A long line. A line that looked like someone was hiring for a business. Blocks of line. I went to the show just before Y2K; there were more people than usual, but not a line. And the Y2Kers just bought a couple of things, some ammo, a new or used firearm, "just in case", with that smiling tone in their voice that meant, 'I don't believe the world's coming to an end, but since I'm here' approach…or excuse to justify a purchase.
And yesterday the attitude was different, too. The usual righty jokes, but with an undercurrent of nervousness. Gun people usually aren't nervous about anything. People usually talk pretty tough "I'll give up my gun…" stuff when they're in line, mild bragging, the like. There was some yesterday, too, but the conversation was a great deal more "tactical" in nature, and any laughter was a bit more 'forced', when people actually laughed, which wasn't common. The State Police at the door were still being treated with great respect, as usual, but no one hung around and joked with them. The normal loony political candidates were outside, but people stopped to listen more. And a lot more product was being moved out the door, and I mean a "lot" of product. Some stuff actually was being sold when they taped a sign to a stick stuck down the barrel of a rifle they were carrying around. And prices took a 15% jump from last year, easily.
I hope there will be a positive political solution to PBHO by 2010, because people are seriously arming up. I'm buying a shotgun Monday.
Burn Notice is the best show on TV. Watch the reruns until the next "season" returns. Buy the DVDs. Get TIVO.

One thing that frosted me good was seeing the typical Walk in to Gun Shoppe and Load Gun and Shoot Store Owner scene in Terminator. I really want to see a scene where someone tries that,and about ten customers and store employees open up on the perp, and then they have a polite discussion afterwards about who did the most damage with their gun…over the bullet-riddled corpse of the perp.

I won't turn mine over, either, if it comes to that. I'm a vet, too. Now have small kids and want them to enjoy the America that we seem to be losing. And may actually lose do to the voters collective brain fart last November. To keep us from losing our country, I've been posting the following where conservatives gather and making the same pitch to my conservative friends.
What to do politically:
We need DEEDS now, not just words. Calling talk radio stations doesn't DO anything. Twittering and ranting in chat rooms about what's happening doesn't DO much. The only reason I’m posting this here is in hopes YOU, who are reading this, will consider DOING SOMETHING MEANINGFUL to change your government back to its Constitutional limits. To DO that, we need to strengthen and change the Republican Party back to its Reagan era strength. How do WE do that? The BEST way to strengthen and change the Republican Party into one that again clearly advocates conservative principles is to . . . drum roll . . . HAVE MORE PEOPLE IN ITS RANKS who accept, understand and advocate conservative principles. I'm not talking about just registering as a Republican, I'm talking about YOU, yes, YOU, who's reading this, not "the other guy," but YOU — becoming an A REAL, ACTIVE MEMBER of the Republican Party by becoming a real, live, functioning Precinct Committeeman. That's the bottom rung on the leadership ladder in the Party. By becoming a Precinct Committeeman, you get to ACTUALLY VOTE for the Party leadership. YOU GET TO CAST A VOTE FOR YOUR LOCAL REPUBLICAN LEADERS UP TO THE COUNTY LEVEL, AND THEN GET TO ELECT ELECTORS WHO ELECT THE STATE AND NATIONAL PARTY LEADERS. If those who accept, understand and advocate conservative principles become a majority IN THE PARTY RANKS, guess what? The Party leadership voted in will be those who accept, understand and advocate conservative principles. This just happened here in Arizona.
It's not hard to find out how to become a Precinct Committeeman. Do some googling to find your county Republican Party web site. Find out which Legislative District you live in. Find out when the next meeting of that Legislative District Committee meets. Then go to the meeting and tell the chairman you want to volunteer to be a Precinct Committeeman. You'll have to gather a few signatures to get on the ballot. Once the election comes around, you'll be elected. Meanwhile, volunteer to DO SOMETHING in support of your conservative values and principles WITHIN THE PARTY. You will be leading by example. Many of the moderates are moderates because they don't know how to think and be conservative. You can show them by your DEEDS.
Now get to it!

Great article, Mr. Lott. It never occurred to me that Sam Axe's position was at all controversial. Of course you don't call the police when armed thugs are after you. The only thing the cops do is draw a line around your dead body and try to find the bad guys.
This is what the police are for, and I admire them greatly for what they do. But they do not "protect" the individual, they protect society. Individuals have to protect themselves.
My admiration for the season finale of Burn Notice is Michael Weston's decision to choose freedom over serfdom, even though it means that he is no longer under the management's "protection." No wonder conservatives love this show.
I've always liked Bruce too, but I always see him as either Ash (Army of Darkness) or Brisco County Jr.
"Burn Notice" is the best show on TV right now. Humor, great plots, tough guys and tough gals, good guys and bad guys, government incompetence, and not a willing victim among them (except the "clients" occasionally). Even romance (I keep yelling at Michael to wake up–Fiona's your woman!). The bad guys are armed, but so are the good guys–and the good guys are a lot smarter. Mike and his team do the job the cops and the government can't do or won't do, and they aren't foolish enough to think a kumbaya moment will ward off evil. Even when forced to work for bad guys, they always figure out how to make it come out right. Sure, a whole bunch of suspension of disbelief is required, but the point gets made. I'll never let the government take my .357 Colt magnum away from me, but if Michael and Fiona need to borrow it, they can.
While I love the article and I think it's logic is irrefutable, I don't think that matters to the Birkenstock Nazis (thanks CommonSense). They always find ways to explain away the truth. If you ban guns and gun crime rises, it must be other states selling to your criminals.
I remember living in Virginia when they tried to blame gun crime in New York on Virginia. Give me a break. The study involved FOUR guns only, and the problem in NY was the lack of guns by the good guys.
Heck, England bans guns but still has gun crime. How does that happen you liberal idiots? Is Virginia selling to English criminals too?
It's even worse than just "gun crime" in Merry Olde England. Since taking handguns away from citizens in their own homes and criminalizing the use of a weapon to stop a crime, violent home invasion burglaries and robberies have increased by a factor of between three and four times. This includes the death and/or serious brutalizing of the homeowner and family. The violent thugs now have no fear of what might be awaiting them behind the door of that residence. Even if the thugs weren't smart enough to steal or purchase a gun, five or six guys armed with baseball bats can do a lot of damage. But they know better than to bring a baseball bat to a gunfight. Thanks to the all-knowing gummint, the thugs no longer need to fear that gunfight.

Yesterday morning I stood in line at our gun show here in the SacraTomato, CA area.
The doors opened at 9:00 a.m., but at 8:30, then I got there, the line was well over 400 people long and growing.
When the doors did open, most of the folks quickly headed directly to the “ammo for sale” tables.
As I waited my turn, (about an hour), I watched thousands of dollars in merchandise being hauled off in those two wheeled “hand truck/dolly’s”.
One guy plunked down almost 2 grand in cash for his ammo.(Can you say “no recession here")?
But, I had come specifically for the “upper barrel and receiver” parts for my previously purchased, “lower receiver”, for my “Kalifornia Legal” AR-15, that I couldn’t find anywhere after over a month of trying.
Three months ago, those same pieces, cost around $600/650, yesterday, I paid over $1,100+ in cash for the same things. 2 men next to me watched my transaction, and did the exact same thing I did (in cash), and were uncomplaining of the price, and indeed like me, happy they could get one at all.
Everyone there had only one thing to talk about…namely the “Best Guns and Ammo Salesmen of the Decade…Prez Obama”.
It will be a LONG 4 years.

I forget when already, if it was before or after the election, but do you remember the TV commentary where they said Obama et. al. obviously wouldn't be tackling guns, at least in his first term, since there were far too many other things to get done, thus the big run on gun stores didn't make much sense?
Now we've seen him try to push through more in the first 50 days than nearly all politicians hope to do in an entire career, with a "transparency" that can easily, very easily, allow the sliding in of gun restrictions into an "emergency" "Vote now, read later" health care bill, followed by Obama and any Democrat voting for it claiming they just don't know how that wording got into those 500+ pages so don't blame them.

You miss the obvious frequent thought about banning ALL the guns in private ownership, thus getting rid of ALL the gun crime once the last of the "on the street" supply is destroyed.
Which will have to lead to the criminalization of private ownership of large chunks of metal, since machining (precision metal fabrication) skills really aren't that hard to acquire, there are many thousands of hobbyists alone in this country who could make a single-shot pistol in short order, with repeating arms not much of a step further.

I didn't want it to sound too paranoid…but because I do go on a regular basis, it really struck me, the change I saw in the demeanor of people there. I'm no alarmist "black helicopter" paranoid, but when you see just how much more, "grim and determined", I guess is a good description, people are thinking and acting, boy, does it light off alarms in your head, too.
I don't think PBHO has the onions or the needed backing to put the military on the streets to enforce this sanitary bilge pumping, and I KNOW the young men and women of arms would rather take a bullet than fire on the people, but I am EXTREMELY CONCERNED that he might try it, or make the ACORN 'brownshirt" neighborhood watch the agent of "hope and change".

Nice post John, as always. I'm still in a bit of shell shock from all the big plans BHO has put forth in his short time in office. It scares the hell out of me. We bought two rifles last week–the little ones–I'm kind slow on the learning curve for long guns. Trouble was the gun shop didn't have ammo for them–said he couldn't keep ammo in stock and some he couldn't get at all.
That's OK, at least now you own an expensive fancy club.

Well I didn't notice the gun angle when I saw the show, but I do want to add my vote that Burn Notice is probably the best show on T.V. I believe this was it's third season and am surprised I hadn't watched it before, in fact we only started watching it because of a review hear on Big Hollywood. It is funny, has action, has genuine, i.e. not sexual, love,the guy treats his mom with great love and respect. Its shocking that it could be so good and not be a typical hollywood production. Sure would love to know more about the guys making it.

Hoarding guns and ammo is fine. How many trained people with gear can you put in the field in the event of a civil emergency. "A well regulated militia" means formed, trained and organized to respond to a call to muster. I would recommend accomplishing this before President Jughead implements his domestic National Security Force. My impression of this is it will a Fascist "brown shirt" type of arrangement with parents and neighbors being turned in by their own children. I humbly suggest ya'll join Jews For the Preservation of Gun Ownership and also start attending various readiness classes before they too are outlawed.

Right ON, John! I went and resigned with the NRA, and when I get my next paycheck, I'm signing up again with Gun Owners of America. My dues will help pay for the needed efforts in D.C. to make sure that the gun grabbers running the government are reminded that the constitution guarantees our rights and we don't intend to forget it.
The post about Gun Free zones precipitating mass murder attacks is correct; crazies know the zone is safe for them and the attack will work. The post abour Juarez/El Paso is also correct; I lived in El Paso and the Mexican anti-gun laws gave the drug gangs a safe zone where they control by corruption and threat, and their attaks thus work. If the gangs tried to do that in El Paso, they would likely have a disaster. Sadly, many of the gang leaders live in El Paso, where they are safe. The Burn Notice line about the police is also sadly true; I was active in the anti-drug efforts in Philadelphia and the witnesses could not be protected. Most people then concluded that calling the cops would leave them exposed and defenseless, thus the gangs violence worked. I think Bruce Campbell is great, his prior skit in a prior episode where he allows himself to get beat up by a thug again and again, trying to get the attention of two traffic cops who ignore him to work a parking dispute is hilarious.

Lady researcher is working a super capicity battery, a "savior" for the enviroment. Guy researcher is working on a military funded "lazer gun". Naturally military research dude is the "bad guy", enviro-savior is the "victim". Like we didn't see THAT COMING! Very predictable Hollywood fare, it's a shame.

I always regarded "Burn Notice" as a show with a libertarian edge (I have no idea what BN creator Matt Nix's politics are, though I read somewhere that he is an ex-spy. Write what you know, I guess!). In the season finale, when faced with the choice of becoming a member of a protected collective or braving uncertain waters alone (literally!), the hero, Michael Weston, chooses the latter. The show has always been about untrustworthy/incompetent government agencies and bureaucracies (and isn't untrustworthy/incompetent government agencies and bureaucracies what we always complain about?). The hero plays by his own rules and is very resourceful. When the government leaves him out to dry without a dime to his name, Weston becomes an entrepreneur, applying his spy skills to private investigator work (and actually charges his clients, though that has been played down this season). Weston is motivated by self-interest. When the need arises to do pro bono work, his altruistic choices are his own. What I like best about "Burn Notice" is that the characters are very likable and the scripts are light-hearted- – despite some of the grim machinations of the bad guys! If you haven't seen the series yet, do yourself a favor and rent the DVDs.
I've only seen a couple of episodes, and I've really liked what I saw. It's a shame I wasn't smart enough to DVR the show, because it IS very good (and I LOVE Bruce Campbel). I'm sure I'll be able to catch up somehow.

Now I know what Obama meant by 'the change'. He wants to convert your change into HIS change. Why was he so quick to run to the cash drawer as soon as he got into office? In my youth I was very pro gun control. I marched in the marches and spouted the talking points. Then I moved to England and spent 10 years observing those proper gun hating Brits (and the National Health, but don’t even get me started on THAT). While I lived there I saw the reports of a man going on a stabbing rampage in a childrens’ school. I started thinking, maybe a gun could’ve stopped this guy….
Now I live in California and I am growing more worried with each passing day. Obama wants to digitalize medical records – all the better to pull “joe the plumber” type smears to the dissenting. The economy is in the toilet and taxes are rising. Unemployment is at incredible levels and they are talking of closing prisons and releasing prisoners. Undocumented aliens are given sanctuary ( I am latina, I have nothing against them wanting to improve their lot, but I want them to do it legally, as my parents did), crime is ridiculous, and if The Big One (earthquake) we have been dreading hits it could take up to 4 months to repair the water lines in some parts of this sprawling city. CAN YOU IMAGINE this scenario??? People desperate for water and full of fear are going to make Katrina look like a fire drill. I feel like we are sitting ducks for another terrorist strike.
I intend to buy a gun.
My son is old enough to handle a weapon and I am single, renting (hey, where’s MY bailout?) in a “safe neighborhood”, where I know almost none of my neighbors. So I’ve contacted some local gun stores and guess what? I can’t find the XD40 I seek. I can’t find hardly ANYTHING. I’m beginning to think a gun show will be my only option, and after reading the prior comments I now fear I am going to have to camp out the night before…..
But there may be some real CHANGE in the air – yesterday I visited my chiropractor, a big Obamacon who had shrieked about his idol for months leading up to the election, and defended his recent passage of the Stimulus pkg no one really read. I had asked him (gently, because I don’t argue with people cracking my spine)“don’t you think, just maybe, the American people should have been able to see the details before forking over our hard earned…”
“NO!” he’d shouted. “Most of us couldn’t handle knowing what Obama’s people know…”
That was weeks ago. Yesterday the doc told me he’s buying a gun, because he hears they are getting harder to obtain and he wants to be able to protect his family, just in case. He’s broken hearted because he’s just figured out that if Obama’s fiscal changes go through he’s going to have to lay off three staffers. “I don’t know what He’s doing,” he whispered. “I didn’t know He was going to do this..”.
“Didn’t you read the blogs?” I laughed. He told me he doesn’ t go online much. Maybe he should.

Most guns are illegal in Mexico according to the laws.
However, almost everyone has them in willful disobedience of the laws, and in fact, fully automatic weapons at that, because having a machinegun is functionally no worse than having a revolver, so they figure why not Go Big?
And travellers are the only ones the Mexican police routinely "take down", because they know the turistas are, in fact, liable to be unarmed. And unlike most locals, they have lots of money and rarely any "connections" to get them out of trouble if shaken down.
And currently, Mexican police are being shot down with a monotonous regularity, generally by the narcolords trying to take over the entire country.

Two weekends ago, I went to get my new Glock. Went to a store I had been to a number of times – they have a very nice indoor range that I'd used. The place was packed. I mean PACKED. It took almost an hour to get through the instant background check because the state was so backed up with requests. I would have hung around for the free range time I got with the gun, but there was a line waiting for a free slot.
A lady there buying a gun asked why it was so crowded. The clerk said "the economy". *snerk*
There is a gun show here later this month. I plan on going. They've always been crowded, I'd like to see what it's going to look like this year. I'm thinking I'd like a shotgun and I'm still looking for that perfect holster.
I thought that was the sound of safeties being clicked off all over the country.
He already controls the media – without even have to explicitly control it (yet). That will be a short jump, all he needs is the "fairness doctrine" to complete the process.

He can TRY to control the guns. There are more of us than there is of them and we do have the Constitution on our side. As for the military… well, not ALL of them are sure he's even legitimate.

It is an indisputable law of nature that humans have the right to self defense. Our 2nd Amendment guarantees that right. It is not just the right to keep and bear arms that was at issue in Revolutionary America. It was and is the right of the American people not to be disarmed and be at the mercy of government. Our Founding Fathers had personal,. first hand experience with a beloved Monarchy that turned both malicious and violent against the Colonists. They fought back, and did so as armed citizens. We're a Colt family (not doctrinaire, just came out that way). My son has a Colt 1911 Defender, although my daughter-in-law has a Beretta. Both my daughters carry Colt .38 police specials but are considering a little more firepower. Oops, did I said "carry?" I meant "own." This is California, after all. I'm not sure what my younger daughter's husband carries, but I'm sure it's big since he's a former L.A. County Sheriff Sergeant and current State Corrections Officer (prison guard).

I don't have the details because I was too busy, but a man today killed a preacher in church. Several other men wrestled him to the ground and the perp died of stab wounds.
The sheriff said that he didn't know what happened, but that the police were trying to figure out if the killer had accidentaly fallen on his knife or self-inflicted his own mortal wound during the struggle.

I don't mind the XD40; its a little too chunky for me. I handled a Walther P99, and despite the "James Bond" stigma, (its his new one), it fit well; I could change the backstrap to fit it even better. They are expensive, though, and I traded in my Beretta 92 to get it. And practice, practice, practice.
If this little item is just for home, you may want to consider a 20ga. shotgun, or a 12 if you can handle the recoil. NOTHING cools the heels of uninvited company faster or more effectively than the "clack-clack" of a shotgun slide cycling. Number 4 buckshot puts out a pretty dense cloud of pellet numbers vs. pellet size, and I use it myself. You also don't have the same chance of something overpenetrating your walls and looking for someone innocent downrange. Shotguns are very effective at distances found in the home, usually requires less time in training, and can compensate a bit for your fear and adrenaline rush if you are having to employ the weapon. They are also less-regulated than handguns or tactical rifles. Sporting arms are usually cheaper than tactical models, and If the hunting gun allows for choke changes, (a long winded discussion would usually go here about chokes), you can get a more open set and get better spread. Don't use slugs unless the gun has rifle sights and an open choke.
I stand corrected (although I'm actually sitting right now). I wasn't thinking clearly because my .357 Colt Trooper Mark V magnum revolver doesn't have a safety.

Very good info..I actually have a less lethal rounds of rubber buckshot for number 1, if they are still moving after that rounds 2,3,and 4 are #8 buckshot…. and I agree. The sound of a round being chambered into a Mossberg 500 is a very effective attention device….:)
But then someone will attack you with a bigger board with a bigger nail in it, so you'll have to build an even bigger board and bigger nail. Then the cycle of violence will never stop….Won't someone please think of the children?!
It does have a way of focusing the mind, that "clack-clack" sound! I use a Mossy 590.
I've listened to the debate about the LTL first round…this is my PERSONAL decision; everyone else should decide according to their own circumstances, I'm no lib, here to tell you what to do. If I have to employ lethal force, (which is what a firearm is), in a circumstance to protect life: to me, someone inside my home is considered by me and mine to be there to harm US personally, not loot the place. Therefore, the first, last, and every round in between is going to be as lethal as I and the tool can make it. I cannot justify even one shot being anything less than a probable killshot.
Another thing people should do; find the lawyer cops use in firearm related defense cases, and use them to defend you, or at least get a preliminary consult. Second, memorize the following statement, and say it to everyone if you are ever in the quandary of having to had used lethal force. "I WAS IN FEAR OF MY LIFE." Lather, rinse, repeat. Do not equivocate, do not waver, say it over and over again. No other statement. If you can say nothing until said lawyer arrives, so much the better, but make sure you say that first during ANY questioning, which starts immediately after the shooting when someone, neighbor, family, etc., anyone shows up. Your mouth will put you away faster than anything you had to do.
I applaud Burn Notice for generally proper firearms handling. In the finale, fingers were off triggers (except when bad guys were getting shot) and upon being handed a handgun, Michael actually press checks it to confirm loaded status. I wonder how much of that is purposeful and how much of that is simply the actors actual knowledge of proper behavior with firearms.
Try to get to a range that allows gun rental, so you can try all kinds of different firearms. Some folks can't deal with the shotgun recoil well. If you get a firearm with a large enough stopping caliber that you handle well, you're in a much better position, because you'll shoot it, practice with it, learn it. Some people advocate hand cannons always; I don't, because you have to be able to deliver lead on target; otherwise, why bother? That's why I hate hearing about people buying a gun to "scare" someone. If it clears the leather on a draw to deal with a life or death situation, "scare" is not an option. Same with "wounding" or "shooting the gun from their hand". If you are using that weapon to save your life, STOP THE BAD GUY! I don't want to read about how one of my dear friends here was murdered because they were trying to scare a meth or crack addict. You do not reach consensus or negotiate with rabid dogs, you make sure you are the one left standing at the end of the "discussion".

Everyone in my household knows how to clear a weapon, from the youngest to the oldest.
I use the FOBUS holster for my Walther, though I'm thinking I'll eventually have to make my own; one, because I can, two, because I have a weird "inside out" draw I'm most comfortable with, that requires a left-hand holster in the small of my back raked WAY rearward. I draw right-handed, my hand palm facing outward from my body as it goes behind my back, grasp and pull, and twist my wrist clockwise as my hand moves along my leg and the weapon presents. Its weird, its John Wesley Harding, but it is so smooth and easy for me, compared to any other presentation draw I've tried. I step back with my right foot as I present with a Weaver stance. Lots of motion, but it all looks like I'm backing up trying to avoid a confrontation and take out my wallet, until you see that ugly little pistol coming up.
Can you use those concealed carry purses, or do you have open carry?
