And If This Were Gerald Ford or George W. Bush?
by John LottThese pictures were obtained here. If Gerald Ford had hit is head, I somehow suspect comedians would have had a field day with it. When Ford slipped on some wet steps while deplaning Air Force One, that single incident was fodder for political comedians such as Chevy Chase for years. If George W. Bush had hit his head, I suspect that the same thing would have occurred. Remember Bush passing out because he choked on a pretzel in January 2002? There were a huge number of political jokes about it.

It will be an interesting academic exercise to see how many late night jokes there will be regarding Obama hitting his head while leaving Marine One. Obama is essentially the same height as George H.W. Bush (6′ 1″ to 6′ 2″) and Ronald Reagan (6′ 1″).
Speaking of Chevy Chase, his recent comments about using humor on “Saturday Night Live” to destroy a candidate’s credibility might be relevant here. When commenting on Tina Fey’s portrayal of Sarah Palin he said:
I want her to decimate this woman. This woman is, I can’t believe there hasn’t been more about it. … It’s just unbelievable to me this woman is actually running for vice president.
Chase also claimed, that unlike other guests, Lorne Michaels had nothing written for Palin when she appeared on SNL: “What was brilliant about (‘SNL’ chief) Lorne (Michaels) was that he had nothing written for Sarah . . .” So you provide professional script writing help for the guests who you agree with politically and want to make look good?

He’s a bowler, yaknow – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtBBgn0I34E
Glad to see you have bought the fear game that Obama is spouting off about tehstupid. Obama continues to lie and say this is the worst economic crisis since the great depression in order to get his extreme left wing bill passed. Things were much worse in 1982, but as usual nobody in the media has the guts to confront the chosen one. It is too bad so many people are buying into his lies. His fear tactics are the political games he keeps railing against.
If THE ONE can walk on water, certainly he should be able to get on an aircraft without a concussion or two???
To TEHSTUPID (love your name by the way). You might want to think about WHO benefits if we all think the economic world is coming to an end? Where does the power shift, to whom?
Hint, hint. Who is crying wolf the loudest?
Tehstupid,
Nobody is saying Obama showing himself to be a goofy klutz is equivalent to a global depression. It’s just that this kind of “mishap” defined Gerald Ford and if GW had done this, the footage would be running on a continuous loop on CNN, MSNBC and The Daily Show.
It amuses me how the lefties become unhinged at the slightest tweak of THE MESSIAH.
Chevy Chase is a Fatty Arbuckle waiting to happen. And we’re all growing impatient.
How dare you suggest we so much as smirk at ‘The One’! He did not hit his head, he was just testing the strength of the craft. Yeah, that has to be it!! [/sarcasm]
Chevy Chase ceased to be relevant to pop culture and society in general after the last Vacation movie. His attempts to remain relevant are sad. And, if it is true that SNL did not have a script for Palin then that just makes me respect her more. But, then I am one of those Right-wing kooks! Where is my Bible and my gun?
I am sure Jesus Obama hitting his head was W.’s and the Marines fault. Yeah! They both conspired to make The O look stupid! That’s it! The O should sue W. and the Marines. B**tards!
Why is this surprising? The media won’t come out against Obama for two reasons. First, most of them are hard core lefties. They think BO walks on water. Second, even as time goes on and some people in the media start getting tired of him, they won’t dare to comment for fear of the back lash from their bosses, colleagues, and cronies. No social standing is worse than no job.
As for SNL, if that is true, and it should be investigated so we know for sure, the show must be boycotted (though the 10 people who still care about it might not have much pull.) Boycott the live shows, the taped shows on other cable channels and the online stuff.
Now regarding this SNL thing, it may be true that there was no script, and that the idiot McCain campaign had something to do with it. The same jerks that tried to make the campaign’s failure all her fault by anonymously leaking junk to Fox could have given misleading data to SNL regarding her availablity or interests such that they could not write for her.
I am glad they didn’t make fun of BO for this. I tire of these kind of cheap jokes. Gerald Ford had a chronic knee injury that left him prone to it locking when he wasn’t standing on it. Go down stairs, the knee opens and locks in the wrong spot, and you can’t catch your self on the next step, thus falling. It was a common sports injury sequelae in his day. BO bumping his head is just an accident.
The incident demonstrated how uncomfortable Obama is in his new role. We’ll see more of these until his gets comfortable. The price to pay for hiring someone with no leadership experience. He appears uncomfortable in every situation I’ve seen him in. He doesn’t appear confident to me. I’m still wondering who watches SNL today. I think it must be a generational difference in what is considered entertaining or humorous.
All you people who are enjoying the irony of Mr. Obama bonking his noggin while entering his chopper should go easy on tehstupid. Can you imagine how he must “feel” when his man looks like Stanley Laurel boarding Air Force One? Bonking ones head is just something his political god doesn’t do. Tehstupid made fun of other presidents for doing such things. He was able to convince himself that Obama trying to enter the White House through a window was not what it appeared. Although there were no mics on when the event occured, we all (and I mean ALL) heard a big hollow ‘BONK’. So even if the trillion dollar boondoggle pork package hasn’t shown tehstupid Obama is just another liberal power grabbing politician, that “BONK” has to have him a bit pinched up.
[...] Not All Clumsy Presidents Are Funny February 10, 2009 Posted by Jehuda in Uncategorized. Tags: Entertainment, News, Politics, TV trackback Or so you’d think: still waiting for comedians to “approach the topic” of President Obama bumping his head …. [...]
That’s Marine One, a helicopter, not Air Force One. Not that it matters if one bumps his head.
Of course, you are right. Mr. Obama is off limits…for now. I never saw a prez so much like a court jester. Once the blush wears off and the kool-aid drinkers discover Obama can’t walk on water, someone will do a bit or a cartoon, and the comedic floodgates will open.
I stand corrected. Apologies to The Corps.
Is there a youtube of this? It would be more effective in video. Just because it’s not catching on now, doesn’t mean it won’t catch on later.
Two words: BONK!
Obama didn’t hit his head, the jet was pulled closer to the gravitational field of the One. The whole thing screams Chuck Norris joke.
And what about the president trying to walk through a window, instead of a door, at The White House a few days ago?
And did SNL ever do a skit about Caroline Kennedy?
Global warming shrunk Marine One’s door frame. That’s got to be it.
As much as I think there are other issues to concern ourselves with, like the economy and such, I must admit I enjoy watching late night tv and was looking forward to seeing what was going to replace “famous moments in presidential speeches” On David Letterman, the other night I stayed up and watched and all they did was remake a bunch of old Bush jokes. I am disappointed to say the least. My husband says it is all because everyone in Hollywood are “Liberal idiots” But where that maybe true how much of it is based on race. I don’t mean to turn this all about race I could care less if our President were purple, but are Hollywood comedians afraid of offending over race? It is one thing to make fun of the President when he sounds like a red neck (and makes it far to easy to do spoofs on) but when the President is “The first African-American President” How far is to far? No one knows and no one wants to push that line.
Wait a second- Barack Obama needs an airplane to fly?
Hey, we give equal coverage to all Presidents!!
It’s just that some Presidents are more equal than others.
Yeah, Obama may be peddling fear, but at least no innocent civilians, and 4000+ american soldiers are dying due to it. Super conservative bible humping republicans championed bush into office… now you know how it feels to see an idiot get championed by the opposing side. Either Obama will succeed or this is just poetic justice for the arrogant republicans out there.
Awesome! Chevy Chase – who thinks that people won’t think that he wears a toupee’ has been bald for three decades, and has spent the GDP of Zambia on the fake stuff – which always looks FAKE.
In other words, here is a guy who does not want to admit that he has Male Pattern Baldness – and denies it – much like Michael Jackson is in denial that he was born black.
SO Chevy, you did not fool a single person, while everyone laughs AT you – not with for your stupid asinine “jokes” – scripted, or otherwise.
Rock on!
Rob
Chevy Chase? Like Ashley Judd, Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, et. al. Chevy Chase has managed to stay in the news by becoming a boot-licking, water carrier for the Democrat party.
The real mystery is, from where does Chevy Chase get his money? The last thing he did that was half funny was “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” back in 1989, and that was twenty years ago.
Somebody’s footing the bill.
By the way, bumping your head and walking into glass doors has now become the new sign of a genius. He is…THE ONE!
Kentucky is battling back from killer ice. OB has yet to visit the area.
Kenny Blankenship’s Most Painful Elimination of the Day! – Bill H
Bill you owe me a new monitor. I snorted coffee all over it after reading your comment.
You know ,seeing Obama walking into windows and bumping his head does remind me of Chevy Chase as Gerald Ford.
I remember a quote from the skit where Ford(Chase)is debating Carter, played by Dan Ackroyd.
Ford/Chase says,” I was told there would be no math.”
Applies to Obama as well.
Hmmm….Maybe whacking his head on A.F. One will knock some sense into it.
Lorne Michaels contributes to all liberal Democrats and John McCain as a spoiler for the Republicans. Outside of McCain donations, the vast majority of his political spending is Dem/liberal.
http://www.newsmeat.com/celebrity_political_donations/Lorne_Michaels.php
So Obama is a clod. So what? So he is stupid. What of it? At least he is president. What does that make al lthe people who voted for him? Even stupider then he is, right? They must be even cloddier then Obama is…..and they aren’t even president!!!
Yeah, think of the unions…..I mean children.
Seriously, stupid, do you proofread what you post?
Or did history for you start a month ago?
You’re right, Stupid. Things must not have been serious at all 22 days ago when Bush was still the president and he was being mocked and derided non-stop by the late night crowd.
It’s not just that he’s a Democrat. It’s that he’s black. Racism is such a part of leftist life that they can’t get past that first layer of melanin and find the fully-foibled individual in grand need of mocking, and who keeps offering up all kinds of sweet material.
Considering that there hasn’t been a word or a joke about the obamassiah trying to go into the oval office through the window (rather than the door next to it) — I doubt that the head bumping will ever hit the comedy shows.
Of course, the leftists are all saying that it’s so petty to laugh at that sort of thing; but I can only remind the left of their behaviour for the past eight years. And then, of course, tell them to suck_it_up!
I’ve got the feeling that it’s going to be a fun four years – because, the obamassiah – for all his divinity – is an inept stumblebum.
Bill you owe me a new monitor. I snorted coffee all over it after reading your comment.
*laughs* I was wondering if someone would get that reference, Sidehacker.
Tehstupid, as ever living down to expectation, hurls this up:
“Glad to see you idiots have your priorities straight. We’re headed for a global depression and you’re obsessing about this nonsense.”
Whoa, hold on there stupid- we haven’t even approached the level of either of Carter’s economic downturns, and we’re just approaching the level that Clinton left the economy in for Bush- what’s all this jibber jabber about a worldwide depression, useful idiot?
“It’s time to get to work and fix the smoking crater that Reaganomics combined with the gasoline of Bush has left us.”
Interesting history books you got there, stupid- apparently they start at about 1981, then there’s nothing regarding the period from about 92 to 2000, then there’s a bunch of stuff about Bush being Hitler. No wonder you’re so stupid, tehstupid.
Some other dolt said this about jugears the moron in chief:
“Even if you think his ideas are stupid or wrong–he conveys them clearly and concisely, with proper English.
Uhuh uh, um…really? I uh, think that uh, you uhuhummmm…might be uh, mistaken, i.i.if the staged press ccccccconference the uhuhuhuh other day is a..a..a.aa.any indi, uh, cation. Uhuhuh, y’know, I uh uh uh mean, even a question about uh, A., uh, Rod, he said uh uh uh uh , “uh”, sev, uh seventeen times by my uh, count in that answer, uh uh uh alone.
But you, uh uh ummmm… you just go on believing wh wh wh what, you uh, wuh wuh wuh uhhhhhh want.
Gads, what a dope we’ve been cursed with as president. Walks into windows, bumps his pumpkin head on an aircraft door, says there’s 57 states, thinks a presidential term is 5 years- what a complete doofus knob.
Four years of this assclown is going to get reeeeeeeeally old.
Palin ‘12, obama losers. Get used to it.
TEHSTUPID – “It’s time to get to work and fix the smoking crater that Reaganomics combined with the gasoline of Bush has left us.
The notion that this is some sort of conspiracy or double standard is completely irrelevant. We are simply too busy trying to find the emergency brakes on the 1988 Chrysler LeBaron.
Time to get serious already. Focusing on the most inane, trivial political “injustices” like this is the reason you have so much time now to do so.”
Hey,TEHSTUPID: Are you a Congressman? “We are simply too busy…”
What the Hell? Pull you head out, Dude!
Funny how libs can still attack Reagan. The man is dead and in the ground. His record is clear and MOST historians consider his Presidency quite positive. I do remember his predessor, Mr. Carter, and what a fine economy we had then.
Made today’s look like a bonanza of sorts.
How about the time the first George Bush threw up at a Japanese dinner? There was no end to the comedy about that event.
Let's face it, it's never going to happen. Liberals don't make fun of other liberals unless they are so outrageously pathetic that the liberal comedians want to distance themselves from them. Television comics purposefully manipulate their jokes in order to bring down what they are against. Saturday Night live has a history of making fun of the Republicans to the point that people who are not very politically literate begin to see the comedic act as fact instead of fiction. The recent "I can see Russia from my back porch" bit is a perfect example of that. Many people don't watch the news, don't read the news, and form their political opinions solely on what they have seen on Saturday Night Live, seen in expensive 2 minute political commercials, and heard third hand from someone who heard from someone else that another person saw [fill in the blank].
Comedians know that if you tell a lie long enough it becomes a fact, whether it's true or not. Unfortunately, as pathetic as it sounds, shows like Saturday Night Live, and late night television sold the current president to millions of people who only half pay attention to the world as the chosen one who would fix all problems. Now they are seeing first hand how poor a choice that was.
