Levi Johnston: A Hollywood Cautionary Tale
by Joseph LindseyFame is that place where character is rarely able to sustain itself. I don’t know how much character Levi Johnston had as a boy, but as a young man in the grips of the Hollywood culture machine he’s lost it all.
Levi’s story is one that plays out hundreds of times each year in Hollywood. The young either come to La La Land seeking fame, or have the opportunity for it laid in their lap due to circumstances they often times never sought. The wreckage of most rarely see the light of day, much less the pages of Playgirl magazine, they only end up chasing a dream that never comes, in rehab, jail or worse.
When one unknowingly trades character for fame the recipient has only one recourse, attack the catalyst that brought them the opportunity in the first place, in Levi Johnston case it’s Sarah Palin and the mother of his child.
When young men lack positive role models at home, often times they go astray in that long stretch towards manhood, only to end up a tool for whatever hungry machine is in their path, gangs, a White House intern, or the exploitative elements of Hollywood. When a young man’s character fails him, good parents are needed to right the course. Levi Johnston didn’t have that growing up in Alaska.
Levi was born in 1990 and raised by Sherry and Keith Johnston along with a younger sister. In 2008 his mother Sherry L. Johnston was charged with six felony counts of misconduct involving a controlled substance and was sentenced to Alaska’s only woman’s prison and later released to serve her three year sentence under home confinement. A Google search for his father Keith brings up only a few sporadic mentions of him and no photos. After dropping out of Wasilla High School in his junior year, Johnston began working full-time for the Alaska North Slope oil fields as an apprentice electrician, but quit his job in January 2009 because he saw an opportunity, something I’m sure even now he thinks is better than being and electrician in Alaska.
Getting your high school girlfriend pregnant is hardly worthy of fame, that is unless her mother is the Governor of your state, a vice-presidential candidate and conservative woman. Only then do the leftist vampires of Hollywood come out of their dark corners and offer you the glowing flame of fame. But what they didn’t tell Levi is that he’s just another one of their moths and the moment he’s served their purpose they’ll push him into the flame and exterminate him.
Levi’s now what Hollywood calls an actor and model, surrounded by the illusionist of Tinsel Town, an agent, a lawyer, a publicist. They prop him up on Tyra and Larry King for painful interviews of which reveals only a young man being nudged towards the embers. They set him up on public dates at children’s events with despicable bottom feeders like Kathy Griffin, get him to hock pistachios on TV and take his clothes off in magazines, all while taking 10, 15 and 5% of his gross respectively. When he’s done with the rounds in Hollywood they set him a blaze by dragging his child into the circus with a court battle because they tell him having custody would be good for his image. And when the media showers the public with the car crash that is Levi Johnston they are filled with glee because somehow they believe they are helping their liberal cause by destroying a young man, smearing a young mother and mocking a conservative woman who rose to power by her own boot straps.
There are worse things in life than ending up an electrician in Alaska and a present, active father in child’s life. I hope that’s where Levi ends up; it’s a far nobler and more lasting life. Cause if he stays on the path of the hungry machine that is Hollywood, just another moth reaching for the fame flame, you’ll see him years from now on “Celebrity Boxing,” “Tool Academy” or “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here” and he won’t be the handsome young man with so much potential that he is today.
When Levi is older I hope he’s able look back at this time in his life and feel a sense of shame, only then will he know that he’s begun to rebuild his character.

One of the major forces behind Levi's "transformation" into a stah, is his bottom-feeder Anchorage attorney, Rex Butler, who also supplied Levi w/ his ever-constant minder, Tank (who shares the spotlight w/ Levi in the nuts commercial). Poor Levi is either too stupid or starstruck to know that he's being made a fool, all the while Rex Butler and Tank are going to the bank. Rather than hawking Levi's goods, they should be encouraging him to get a real job so that some day he can be a real dad and not some joke on late night tv.
Anna Nicole's emotional and psychological problems aside she still had a freight train load more character than this pathetic POS, who has made it his number one priority to completely ruin the lives of good people who were willing to do more for him than he ever had any right to expect. Anna Nicole never displayed that kind of viciousness.

This is more than an article about Levi Johnson…it's a scathing indictment of Hollywood in general. On one hand it should be surprising for what meager goods people are willing to trade away their integrity; one the other, it is no surprise that a lack of moral principles usually results in such lopsided transactions.
Remember Cindy Sheehan? After the Left squeezed every drop of humanity out of her, they kicked her to the curb. Sadly, the same fate awaits Levi.

Brilliant, well-written assessment. I think of Cindy Sheehan and part of me feels nothing for both her and Johnson but pity. It is sad to see these despicable "stars" prey upon the ignorant and emotionally vulnerable.
We all make mistakes when we are young. Some just make us look silly, some make us stronger. None of those seem to fit Levi. The important one is the baby. All the statements given here about Levi Johnston–immature, no character, unwitting pawn of Hollywood parasites–are true. The reasons given for Hollywood's embrace of this callow ignorant youth are true as well: he is a useful tool with which the Kathy Griffins of the world can embarass Sarah Palin while enriching themselves.
There is another motivation for Hollywood liberals to embrace Levi Johnston and his personal flaws: he confirms all their elitist opinions of "red state" America. This ignorant white kid from a broken home in a frontier state represents everything the left thinks it knows about those pesky McCain voters.
As a stand-in for the dysfunctional hillbillies coastal elites believe populate flyover country, the in-over-his head oblivious rube Johnston also provides justification for liberal plans to "help" those rubes through state-mandated health care, welfare, and other programs the "red state" voters are deemed too thick-headed to see are for their own good.

He quit his North Slope oil field job over questions about his eligibility to work in an electrical apprenticeship program because Sarah Palin's enemies went after him because he was technically unqualified for the job he was in without a diploma and, in a classic anti-Palin fishing expedition, her detractors assumed she or Todd had pulled strings to get him the job when it was his father that got him his job. So we (and he) can thank Sarah Palin's enemies for ruining his best shot at an honest job. To paraphrase Kirk from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, "They've managed to hurt just about everyone else, but like poor marksmen they keep missing the target"

I am about 2/3rd though Sarah's book. The best part is the last 3rd, where she talks about the campaign, and what it was like on the inside. It is a fascinating read. The things her fans wondered "why didn't she…." are answered.

Dear Linda – I often lament the inability of people to make fine distinctions in their use of, and comprehension of, the language and if I am at fault, it is perhaps in assuming others to possess this ability to a greater degree than they demonstrate by their response. I did not compare Johnson to Sheehan; I equated the conduct of the Hollywood crowd toward people like Johnson and Sheehan; i.e., that they attach themselves to people who are especially ignorant (Johnson) or emotionally vulnerable (Sheehan), prop them up, use them and then abandon them. During channel surfing a while back I landed on the Larry King show. He was off but these two were on. My first five minutes convinced me that neither were worth the air they breath. They could have taped the show in a motel room the way she was talking about last night. That five minutes was enough. The channel is now blocked out of my system. Man, she is a very ugly human being. And not just in looks. He is an idoit.

Levi is chiefly embarrassing only to himself. Normally, the Left celebrates unwed mothers and deadbeat dads (not wanting to "judge" them or denigrate their "lifestyle choices"), but whenever it has the opportunity to chortle at those who HAVE values but sin (where sin literally means 'to fall short of the mark'), it does.
The Left feels it is better to have NO values than to have values but sin. Levi is the poster man-child. For a while, anyway.

I just feel bad for Bristol. She's a young girl, she thinks she's in love, she sleeps with her boyfriend and gets pregnant, she thinks she loves him enough to marry him and that he feels the same way about her, she has the baby, and her boyfriend then proceeds to betray her, her family, and their son for a quick buck and a shot at the z-list, and she's left raising the baby without his help and support while he's off slandering her entire family to anybody that'll listen. To me, that's the cautionary tale.
Sadly the boy suffers from an childhood devoid of any values save whatever he saw on the television. He's the perfect product of our society, the loser.

But conservatives, I have noticed, tend to allow liberals to shout them down from their seats if they err or have been perceived to have erred. This must stop. They also went after Levi's mother and made her national news, too, under the fishing expedition hope that Palin was somehow responsible for delaying the investigation into her drug dealing (again, Palin wasn't involved). It's also entirely likely that Sarah Palin gave Levi and his mother some grief over her drug dealing arrest, which would hardly be surprising. While I'm sure Levi blames Sarah Palin for all of this he should really be blaming (A) the mainstream media and Palin's political enemies and (B) his mother's poor judgement in dealing in prescription painkillers.
