There is a clear difference between the two cases. The Bruno Vece case involves a monster who cannot be reformed, is too far gone and too dangerous to be left in public. I just don't think Roman Polanski is that far gone. I don't condone the statements that these fat slobs like Harvey Weinstein and Tom Shales make to excuse his unspeakable crime, but since he only did it once and doesn't appear to be a threat to the general public, perhaps he can be rehabilitated. I just can't see someone with that kind of talent being that far gone. Dennis Prager wrote up a column yesterday saying while it's inexcusable of what Polanski did and what his backers say, the combination of his personal history and his mental stability should be taken into account as to how he should be punished. It's what a compassionate conservative would do. Sorry, but I have compassion and I'm going to buck the tide on this one.
