The Return of “24″ is Big News in my Household
by John R. KasichJack Bauer’s return for four action packed hours on Sunday and Monday cannot come soon enough. Even with the tease we had late last year of ‘24: Redemption,’ it’s been far too long since we’ve seen our favorite terrorist buster in action.
I know some have grown weary of the the over-the-top story lines, but I was late to the game in watching the show. I missed the first couple of seasons so I still sit at the edge of my seat during every commercial break. I am still able to suspend my disbelief.
The political undertones and controversies surrounding the show never enter my mind — it’s just great TV. ‘24′ is one of the few television shows my wife and I look forward to watching together. The clock can’t tick fast enough for Jack Bauer’s return.

My husband and I agree with you. We love 24. We hope the storyline is a good one and Jack doesn’t wimp out.
You are SO right, John. I am MORE than excited that Jack is back!
I missed the first couple of seasons so I still sit at the edge of my seat during every commercial break.
You sit through commercials? HA! Go back to the twentieth century ya luddite.
IMO, the “political ramifications” are overblown and totally exploited. This morning I heard Mr. Sutherland on NPR, saying he had heard rumors that real-life soldiers were excusing their brutal behavior on account of having watched “24.”
I’ve enjoyed past seasons; last year not quite so much. You definitely have to suspend reality, and check your objective analysis at the door… but it’s still the best edge-of-your-seat TV available. Go get those bad guys, Jack!
Anyone tell Kasich that Jack jumped the shark, found the progressive liberal God (the one who makes us regret our violent actions in our defense, but honor Hamas) and kicked Joel Surnow to the curb?

I caught a few seconds of Limbaugh weighing in on the new season yesterday. Apparently, Surnow or not, they’re still sending him advance screening copies. He says the show is as good or better than ever, though I didn’t catch how much of the season he’d actually viewed.
True, though… I just can’t imagine Janeane Garofalo being party to anything the rest of America has enjoyed about ‘24′ in the past.
I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.
Kasich,
I am a conservative, I love Limbaugh…but I can’t stand your face, your voice or your self-righteous stench. Fortunately we are a lot alike so I tolerate you. HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Next Please!
Bettyboop and I also watch 24 together. That and ‘Lost’ are the only two over-the-air network shows we watch. I don’t agree necessarily that 24 pulled a JTS yet, as evidenced by the weasel UN “observer” in Redemption, but let’s see how the season plays out. John, Rush’s and your endorsements are good enough for us.
Cheers.
Go ahead, watch 24. You liberal hipsters will love the irony of moral equivalence and “Blame America Firstism.” Lots of that on 24. Always an evil right-wing shadow regime lurking in the background pulling the strings. 24 rattles with crackpot conspiracy theories and an overall theme, ie: “we’ve seen the Enemy and it is US.”
You Conservatives, you’ll wanna air out the stench with a viewing of The Unit – the most Conservative show and flat out Best Hour on TV. Period. 10 PM on CBS.
Even if 24 weren’t on, I’d still be watching it anyway (although I’m DELIGHTED it’s finally back). I’ll be watching ANYTHING BUT the Golden Globes. Blech.
John, It’s a crying shame FOX didn’t give you Brit’s job. With Geraldo Rivera, Shepard Smith, Greta van Sustern, Dick Morris and Huckabee, the channel’s being taken over by liberals. At a minimum, they should give you a dressing room in the utility closet where they kept that ventriloquist puppet Alan Colmes. Keep up the good work.
Year four was 24 at its best. Joel Surnow is a true conservative and I look forward to his return to prime time.
This will be a welcome relief after we endure the Charger/Steeler game. 24 should be a little less stressful.
So-called “Conservative” Joel Surnow couldn’t keep 24 from veering into leftwing dementia…even when he was in charge. That suckerpunch is ALWAYS just around the corner. Brace yourself.
We love you Mr. Kasich! We miss you to! COME BACK TO THE HOUSE…we need you!
I’ve honestly never seen 24 for some odd reason. Maybe i’ll rent the seasons on Netflix. However, preempting The Simpsons for the second week in a row for 24 is SO NOT COOL.
Jack Bauer’s best line: “This is Jack – I don’t have a lot of time.” I am looking forward to its return – I think it will still have its magic – Heroes was such a dud after it returned.
Hey John….save us New Yorkers and run for Hilary’s Senate seat!
From all the reviews I have heard, this is supposed to be a great season. I have liked all the seasons.
John, I eagerly wait for the new seasons of 24 too, but with a tad less enthusiasm every year. The peak was the brilliant season with Jean Smart and Gregory Itzin a few years ago and due in large part to those two actors and the writing surrounding them. Here's hoping a good season awaits. We are overdue.
John,
What have you been doing since you left the House? Do you still keep in touch with Bob Ney, Neil Volz, Jack Abramoff and the rest of the real conservatives from your time in Congress?
Sigh trolls trolls everywhere and not a one to drop kick.
Our entire family is looking forward to Jack’s comeback. It is the highlight of 2009.
Too bad we don’t have a few Jacks. He could waterboard some of our elected officials.
[...] call to arms for Hollywood’s closeted conservatives. And former congressman and Fox News host John Kasich sent word he and his wife are stoked that “24″ is about to start up again. California [...]
How’s this for a 24 plot: Jack is not allowed to torture the terrorists, instead they are given lawyers on the spot… and refuse to answer questioning. In the last episode, the world blows up.
