THR: Hollywood Prepares Marathon Fundraising Session For Obama
by John NolteIf you’re wondering why Hollywood would agree to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in kamikaze missions to produce one embarrassing anti-Bush/anti-America/anti-War-on-Terror flop after another, take a look at Paul Bond’s Hollywood Reporter piece below and then take a look at the definition of an in-kind contribution.
Basically, an in-kind contribution is a perfectly legal way around fundraising limits where you help your candidate and/or party in a way that doesn’t qualify as a legal contribution. For instance, GE contributes to Democrats through an in-kind contribution we like to call MSNBC. Same with AOL through the Huffington post. And…
Same with Hollywood. During the Bush years, the film industry did something it had never done before and that’s bring to life anti-American/anti-war propaganda films while America was still fighting that war. Long after the first few films had flopped, more were still greenlit — and in the case of “Green Zone” at the price of $100m more — in order to bring down Bush, aid Democrats, and lift the Leftist cause. At the time they thought they were aiding Hillary. But once Obama came along, same difference.
And here’s why they were willing to risk all that money and further alienate 50% of their customers…
The President could attend as many as three moneymaking events in a 24-hour period during his visit to Hollywood this month. …
Invitations have already gone out for a 4:30 p.m. event that day at Sony Pictures Studios, though Sony is only the venue, not the host. VIP seating is $2,500, and general admission is $250. Event chairs, hosts and other details haven’t been worked out.
But Katzenberg also is arranging a “high-dollar dinner” that night that he would co-host with Spahn and others. Insiders say Spielberg and Geffen would likely attend.
Depending on how the fundraising dinner is classified under campaign finance laws, it could cost each Hollywood A-lister as much as $30,400 apiece to dine with the president. ….
“Early response is so encouraging that they’re trying to throw together a third event,” an insider said.
Hollywood players are multi-millionaires and near-billionaires with more money than they know what to do with. There’s no way they’re going to restrict their contributions, and frankly they don’t have to when they control the levers of the storm and fury of motion pictures.
Contrast that with WWII when mostly Republican studio heads bit the bullet for their country and got behind both the war and FDR (who many loathed) after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Those men were imperfect, but they were Americans before they were Republicans. This new batch is just, well, imperfect.

Thank God that the evil rich won't be involved.
Given how hateful Hollywood has become to such a large number of Americans this will probably backfire.
I was shocked that there would still be such a big following in tinseltown after all the blunders their president committed to alienate himself from their causes and then I remembered how many hypocrites live in Hollywood.
$30,400 to Hollywood sorts is about as inconsequential as that nickel change in my pocket. And don't think they won't rally around their celebutard president. When it's crunch time, the enemy of their enemy is A-OK with them.
I would remind conservatives to please boycott Hollywood, but judging from what I keep reading of declining film revenues, seems like that's not necessary.
Hollywood. Full of highly talented (and the offspring of the highly talented) people who think they are individuals, yet politically and culturally they are all exactly the same. As a creative type myself, I have a hard time believing they don't realize how un-original they are politically. It makes no sense to me. Aren't artists always the ones saying be yourself, be different?
Fools, and their money…And all that other wisdom the left seems always to sneer at.
Would someone please write the Hollyweird wackos a new script. They been running the same ole melodrama since Hanoi Jane's Benedict Arnold act in Viet Nam. It's time to turn off the socialist commie act and join the real world.
The current bunch wouldn't get behind a conservative President unless Muslins
were building a Mosque next door to their Malibu home, and then one or the other
or both would be short term. They will get behind Obama, Chavez, Castro, even a
dead Che,,,,, but Sarah Palin, fat chance,, Huckabee, right after the Antichrist. They have
worked themselves into such a hate for any Conservative that WW 3 would not get some of
them to reconsider a Conservative as worthy of their allegiance. Does anyone see a need
to resuscitate Mccarthy?
As they continue to lose money in the market they are going to hand it over to Obama; who is only going to make it more difficult for consumers to have disposable income to purchase the products that Hollywood produces.
Essentially, Hollywood has decided to shoot itself in both feet then try to walk.
Herd mentality whose leadership has been taken over by greedy leftists who encourage the followers to take the cash and not give a sh*t about what happens to our civilization.
Mispent youth about which they can't admit the truth without finding themselves guilty of any number of crimes, including sedition.
Love of their own perversions (form of greed).
Raised within communist philosophies that instead of being disprovedin the 60s were intensified.
Raised within capitalist families who understand how to use the commies to destroy the prevailing social and governmental structues, thus initiating a vacuum that they have more of a chance of moving up in.
Grew up watching positive reniforcements in the media of the ideological messes that they are perpetuating.
Apparently even artists aren't permitted to leave the Liberal Plantation, no matter how unoriginal it is. Or, I might add, express their First Amendment rights. Heaven forbid an artist use their creative talents to get people to think seriously about their culture as it is experienced today. With attitudes like this, both Picasso and Grosz would have had their patronage revoked and would have been ostracized by their peers. I was completely astonished and sad, but not altogether surprised, to read this article: http://biggovernment.com/jpanero/2011/03/02/conse...
Mccarthy was right about all those communist infiltrating the US government.

And another thing . . . last I checked Shwarzenagger drove California into the ground. They are in the worst shape economically than any other State. One commentator referred to it as "impending economic Armageddon." If the State is in such dire trouble why aren't these people giving it to Sacramento so they can clean up their own "backyards?" After all they did vote for it so why shouldn't they pay for it!
I wish!
You'll see Hollywood bolt over to Hillary if she throws her hat (or hair barrette) into the ring. The 2008 Obama shine has worn down to a leaden haze. She will appear as if she was rode hard and put up wet if she waits until 2016. Liberal women age exceptionally bad especially if they were obnoxiously fanatical during their youth.
I hear ya Sammy but I respectfully disagree. Celebs like Matt Damon might grumble between election cycles about Obama being more conservative than they expected, but when rubber meets the road, Obama’s their man. And “man” is the operative word here. They may like Hillary well enough, but they ADORE Obama. Don’t believe me? Just stick around and find out.
Yeah, godda agree with you. They are not going to jump ship to swim towards Hillary.
How does the expression go …more money than sense…very appropriate for this group of people who are willing to pay crazy money to listen to the same speeches and the same old whining and blaming everyone else. Why don't they use this money for good causes instead of trying to get this under achiever another chance to spend us into bankruptcy for sure.
California was a mess before Arnold came in. He put 3-4 initiatives on the ballot and the unions poured $100 million to defeat them – after that he just kind of gave up.
But how can they keep making duds that lose money – and keep making them?
This is why we have such a bad economy – Hollywood, Democrats and Obama simply just can't count.
That's a good question BB. If I was to guess, it would be overseas sales that help 'em float some kind of profit.
I wouldn't even give two cents to dine with Obama. Wouldn't waste my time on the man.
Worst President EVER.
What causes? They know he´s their guy. He helps them feel good about themselves. You see, Hollywood liberals do not really lose sleep over what happens in some remote corner of the world, or some arcane violation of the Constitution. They care about their personal status and self-esteem. That is what citizen of the world means: caring about no country in particular. That is what multiculturalism means: caring about no culture in particular. Obama is the tailor-made President for these people, even more so than Bill Clinton.
Yes. The voters got what they wanted.
At least he tried, for about six months … but for all the talk about girly men, he folded pretty quickly. He cared more about the approval of his crowd than the future of the state.
Take the names of all the Hollyweird hacks that support this bum and his madness. Then boycott everything they do. Hollyweird is already smarting from low box office. We can put these mutts out of business with a collective effort.
"Prepares marathon fund raising session…"
This implies a new effort.
When did it ever stop?
Why Republicans don't hold hearings on Hollywoods "creative" accounting practices is beyond me. Those guys make Enron look like… Well, I can't think of anyone famous for good accounting practices off hand.
One decent G movie pays for a lot of crap.
Think mannequins.
So the ultra-stupid are doubling down on stupid? Imaaagine that, as Gomer used to say.
I look forward to the CIC (celebutard-in-chief) closing down half the streets in Los Angeles for another 8 or 12 hours. Now THAT will win him a lot of friends, not to mention how much more we will love all his fellow celebutards.
Well stated!
Free country. If these people want to use their own, legally earned, private property (money) to support certain politicians, political parties, and political movements, they have the exact same right to do so that I demand for myself. I may not like what they say, but unlike them, I actually do support their right to have it and to publicly state it.
Let the battle begin in the arena of the exchange of free ideas. In that arena, all the money in the world won't help them with thinking people.
you're only right…
Tempest in a teapot. Hollywood liberals, eager to keep their 'Spago cred' intact, open wallets (a few moths fly out- this lot doesn't pick up a lot of tabs) and support Obama.
And why not? They- and the corrupt media- have invested SO much in this guy that if they found out he was indeed the Anti Christ they would nervously equivocate: 'Well, it's just the AntiChrist, right? Uh, the Buddhist camp I went to should make it ok, you think? I mean, we'll still make movies just for a DIFFERENT audience.
I don't have a Crucifix in the Malibu pad, anyway'
That would be a free exchange of ideas. From useful idiots…
That would be a free exchange of ideas. From useful idiots…
And I can't think of a better advertisement for our ideas. Let thinking people get a load of the left's crap and our job is half done.
Gentle Readers,
Dear Mr. Nolte,
Unfortunately, Hollywood isn't alienating 50% of their audience. The are alienating 99%+ of their audience. Even people who voted for Pres. Obama are appalled by this type of behavior and politicization of what is supposed to be simply entertainment.
What is particularly galling is that these Hollywood Plutocrats won't accept the burdens imposed by their preferred politicians and policies. Many seem to want the rest of us to cope with restrictions on CO2 emissions, as one example, even while they fly in private jets between their multiple mansions and private, members-only clubs. ( You would think ONE MANSION should be enough for anyone. Really! Especially blowhards demanding reductions in CO2 emissions. )
Kindest Regards,
John Lepant Brighton CO
I think to them unlike old Hollywood, it is a crusade…
That pretty well describes it – folded like a house of cards collapsing. As one wag suggested "That's what happens when you sleep with the Kennedys"
Follywoods problems with OBoner isnt that hes doing a lousy job, which we all know is true-its that they feel he isnt LIBERAL enough! They WANT him to impose socialistic restrictions on EVERYTHING in our lives! They think if he gets more money from us, he will be free and clear to do whatever he wants, or more importantly-whatever THEY want him to do! And Im asked why I wont pay for movies anymore-Nuts to them!
Think GWB vs. John (s)Kerry.
Old John had all of Hollywood on his side and he still lost. I don't care who Hollywood supports,
Joe McCarthy was a patriot!
Must be the Kennedys, since Arnold hardly needed the money. At least we can learn from it. When you try to evaluate a politican, look who he is married to.
There were plenty of times where Hollywood seemed to be rooting for the US to lose in Iraq. At that time, they half-heartedly supported the Afghan war. I even know a few far left people who echoed their sentiments. They pretty much keep their mouths shut now. The American people, many of whom may have disagreed with the Iraq policy, as dumb as we are, still are smart enough to know that once engaged, losing a conflict is about the worst thing that can happen to a country. They remember how long we were adrift after our capitulation in Vietnam, and while they may not have liked it, a successful end and exit strategy is what they truly wished. GWB was reelected not because we're a bunch of dumb rubes, but because as a great, but greatly flawed man once said: Americans love a winner, and they will not tolerate a loser! Bush wanted to win that conflict, and to a great extent, sacrificed himself as President to accomplish that. Its something that these Hollywood types will never understand. Sacrifice to them is usually something so inconsequential as to be a total joke.
