Palin Derangement Syndrome: Bristol’s ‘DWTS’ Success Drives Man to Shotgun TV
by John NolteLet’s see, Governor Sarah Palin’s breaking viewership records on TLC and her daughter Bristol is the star of one of the top shows in all of television. Yep, it’s hard out here for a hater. Didn’t the Palins get the message from the Left? They’re supposed to be defeated, humiliated, hiding and licking their wounds by now. Not thriving, not conquering in both the political and pop culture worlds.
These Palin triumphs are really nothing more than mean-spirited bullying, especially in light of Obama’s growing pile of failures. If the Palins cared about the world’s children they would stop being an appealing, happy, loving and politically influential family and just go away. But obviously they hate the world’s children — and 66 year-old Wisconsin alcoholics with access to firearms.
Funny how the same people who want to give every kid a trophy are made so furious by what they see as advancement on a reality show not based on merit.
Like most Americans, Steven Cowan has been perplexed by Bristol Palin’s curious ability to keep advancing in TV’s “Dancing with the Stars” competition.
However, unlike other viewers, Cowan, 66, allegedly became so enraged by Palin’s success that he actually fired a shotgun round into his television, triggering a 15-hour standoff with Wisconsin cops.
According to a criminal complaint, Cowan’s wife called police Monday evening to report that her husband had blasted the TV and was threatening to kill himself. Cowan, who had been drinking, became angry while watching Palin, 20, perform on the ABC program.
As Palin, pictured at left, was dancing, Cowan “jumped up and swore, saying something to the effect of, ‘The fucking politics.’ Steven was upset that a political figure’s daughter was dancing on this particular show when Steven did not think that she was a good dancer,” the complaint notes.

The left might not want to claim them. But these folks are definitely not right-wingers. Still, the right is repeatedly accused by the left of violent rhetoric and hate-speech.

Granted, Bristol is, by far, not the best dancer on the show. But she is the only competitor who had absolutely NO experience performing and look how far she has come. And she did it with poise, determination, and a heck of a lot of guts while under tremendous pressure. She deserves her spot in the finals just for those reasons alone.
She's got a lot of her mother in her.

By having a large, happy family, including a Downs Syndrome child, Sarah doesn't have to preach the pro-life position, she lives it.

DWTS was NEVER about just the best dancer, that would have been a pathetic show not worth producing or watching, let alone running for 11 seasons. (Not to say that serious dance shows aren't worth watching, but they don't have the drama that DWTS has.) And that drama is what makes it great. The audience participation has kept many otherwise painful-to-watch dancers in the running far longer than their dance talent or improvement deserved.
Throughout the season Bristol HAS in fact stood up to the challenge of a raised bar — all the whiners conveniently ignore the fact that she DID receive 9-9-9 and 8-9-9 scores on her last night, scores that were higher than any of the others in their earlier rounds. Starting from where she did, I think this eclipses the perfect 10's that Jennifer Grey had — and I really like Jennifer. But, c'mon folks, each and every one of the others has years of professional performance and dance experience behind them. For Bristol to keep up with them at all is HUGE.
If some of the stars want to win a DANCE contest, then they should enter a real dance contest where their dance skills will be the ONLY thing they can rely on, rather than appear on a show where they "compete" against others without their years of performance training and experience.

I think that Bristol is still on the show because she appears genuine. She admits she came on the show with no experience and was nervous, and yet she keeps getting better and more confident, and she still shows humility. That appeals to a wide audiance, America always loves an underdog. I hope she does win, just for effort (and besides she is competing with professionals, Ms Gray from Dirty Dancing).

Apparently for at least some of the left, that line should be changed to "If you don't like what's on, you can just shotgun your television" … though obviously Cowan would have problems with other liberals who are against private gun ownership.

This is the first year I have actually paid any attention to the show. And its only because of Bristol. I was definitely tuned to "24" in the past.

My wife, who can dance (me? not so well), said the same thing. Bristol's improvement is actually greater than the other remaining dancers because of her lack of experience. Last night's performances were the best she's done and I was amazed in that she could never have done so well just nine weeks ago while the others already had dancing or performance abilities.

Exactly. It's not just about the dancing but about a likeability factor, which unfortunately Brandy, in my opinion, didn't really have. She was whiny and NEEDED to win too badly–her failed career had drained her self-esteem.
Bristol, on the other hand, doesn't perform near as well, but she could take winning or leave it. She never expected to go far which makes her more likeable.
I have to say though that she seems like a duck out of water on the show. It doesn't look like she's really enjoying it much. But I'm happy for her success, especially since she's making a chunk of change on the show–should support her and her son well through college.

But the public loves her. There you have it. If the public wants someone else, then those people should VOTE. Besides, it's only a TV show. My husband and I love the show. We wait for it eagerly each season. It is great entertainment. Great TV.

The title of this bogus article is completely misleading. Chubby Bristol has NOT had "success" on the show. She continuosly receives the lowest scores, but because of teabagger affirmative action, she remains on the show to continue her embarrasment. She has to be the heaviest female contestent to have made it this far, and it has NOTHING to do with talent!

You know, when that guy held the discovery channel hostage, my very conservative husband said it was unfair to link a clearly insane person to any political position, even one he was explicitly espousing.
