It’s the Liberty, Stupid: ‘Big Peace’ Launches!
by John NolteWhen the American Left uses the word “peace” what they really mean is surrender, appeasement, and the stability that comes with an evil in charge ready to reward those who call for America and her allies to surrender and appease. Yesterday, Editor-In-Chief Peter Schweizer launched Big Peace, and with a single sentence put the Left on notice that they no longer own that word: Peace is a word devoid of meaning unless it includes liberty.
Liberty.

On the same day, July 4th, 1826, fifty years to the day from the birth of this great nation they founded, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died. What are the chances? How about zero? Such an improbable occurrence was our Creator’s not-so-subtle way of reminding us that the United States of America is something special, something worth preserving. And no wonder…
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Those are the only secular words I find as moving and wise and compassionate and eternally truthful as the Eight Beatitudes of the Gospels. And those words are America. This country may be built upon a piece of land, house millions of citizens, and enjoy many traditions, but those things are not what America is. America is an idea; a noble idea that essentially boils down to the shocking belief that the masses are in fact not asses.
Yup, it’s the liberty, stupid.
Although each one of Andrew Breitbart’s BIG brainchildren is charged with covering wildly different topics, I like to think that Liberty is the muse we all share in common. Something else we have in common is that the Left holds no sway over us. The deadly siren song they’ve sung for ages – just compromise a little and we’ll like you — that has successfully drawn so many from our side onto the sharp rocks of self-mutilation only encourages us to defeat them all the more.
And so with the launch of each new BIG the left dies a little more inside, and with the combined intellectual firepower of Schweizer, Frank Gaffney and Blackfive on the banner, the appeasers are gonna need to get a few more guys.
Welcome to the party, Big Peace. Welcome to the family.

Mr. Nolte, here's an idea to pitch to your boss: Big Economics.
See if you can get Dr. Thomas Sowell and Dr. Walter E. Williams to at least help with direction (I'm sure they are both incredibly busy).

The way the media and the left twist basic economics is crime. Education is the solution. If the public schools won't educate the unwashed masses on what it really is, why not do it at a Big site?

Even though Orwell's article is correct about war and he held no love for Fascism or Soviet Communism, you do realize that he was nonetheless a socialist, right?
When I read that book, it changed my life. Really, and I can't say that about a lot of books, but that one did.
For example, we're constantly lectured by the media and the left that the trade deficit is an indicator of how horrible things are economically in America.
In fact, according to Sowell, America has run a trade deficit for every year of it's existence except for 6 or so (been a while since I read it). And that was during the Great Depression.
The term trade deficit is misnomer. It only measures the difference between physical goods exchanged between America and other nations, and because its commodities, it includes oil imports. It does not measure services exported, one of America's biggest industries not does it measure the inflow of foreign capital for investment. It's a worthless figure. Yet month after month we're told how its proof of the end of times.
That really needs to be changed. The lack of education I mean. The only reason I know about any of this is because I got tired of having the MSM and modern liberals hurl around with having any idea what they mean. So I educated myself. And it was such an eye opener.
This is an awesome site in an awesome triumvirate, er, four-umvirate !

I've found that as long as I'm polite, respectful, and have a reasonable, rational viewpoint, I'm more than welcome to debate on these sites, even though not every one agrees with me. Some of the debates have gotten fairly heated, but they've always remained respectful and agreeable. One thing I really enjoy is around here people can and do agree to simply disagree.
I have every reason to believe you'll find the same.

He was a socialist in the same vein as many in Canada of that time and not as found in the USSR. There IS a difference and it is indeed vast. Most in Canada are frugal socialist-lite capitalists.

First off, what a fantastic intro to the site. You really did hit the nail on the head with Thor's hammer.
But also, a very interesting insight as well…I have often wondered about both Thomas Jefferson and Adam Smith passing away on the same day–July 4th no less.
It's too…mind boggling to just cast aside as chance and yet…
Either way, such events should reinvigorate patriots to stand up for the principals of their founding fathers.

I'm no expert on how the Intense Database works. That's the over all blog application they use at the Big sites. I'm still learning about blogs myself, I'm setting up one for my Church, and we're using Word Press.
I have a few ideas how this works, I'm in the computer industry, and I see common trends. I think when you first load a thread, ID down loads a snap shot of an activity in progress. And then tries to refresh it from time to time with updates.
If that's what they are doing at ID, its a pretty cool concept. How ever, with every process or procedure, there are always going to be problems and unintended consequences, I learned that in engineering school, even though that wasn't the lesson they were teaching at the moment.
Here's how I view it. There is a golden copy of the thread on the Big sites servers. Updates are constantly being sent to it, and it does its best to bring them in, categorize them correctly, and then also send them back out to users who are viewing it.
Some times it gets backed up, especially when there are really hot debates going. Some times the email posting stops working. I like to think of it as a work in progress.
I did notice I had to refresh today to see my new posts. I'm guessing that's because its the holiday and the ID support team is on vacation, enjoying the long weekend. Normally you don't have to do that. But you'll come across other things don't seem to work right one day and then do the next.

Oh you betcha. Check out both their regular columns over at TownHall.com. They can clearly and precisely explain how government intervention and regulation lead directly to the housing boom, and exactly how economic bubbles always lead to busts.

I too am a computer person, mostly database (Oracle) and now fiddling with websites (and commenting systems).
As long as the "BIGS" avoid the siren song you mentioned, I am along for the wonderful ride and will do my best to advance the cause.

The problems I have with the emails is while they usually work, they don't always. I've seen times where they weren't sent out, or replies weren't posted till long after they made sense. My opinion is it's java bugs they're still working on.

If you haven't read The Vision of the Anointed yet, make sure you do. Thomas Sowell is a national treasure.
That's because the original comment made it into what I call the "golden copy" (work term for when we had one absolutely guaranteed working copy of a piece of hardware that we could reference when we had no idea what to do).
Even thought you deleted it, the reference to is in the golden copy, so it will stay for posterity.
I think that's why some times you can edit your own posts, but that isn't enabled for ever. Once a post gets officially accepted by the application, its there, and all you can do is delete it, and that will only happen once it churns out a new golden copy.
I would sooner take Mr. Orwell's socialism over Mr. Obama's socialism any time of the week.
Funny, Obama would want a Orwellian order, if he could do it.

Thank you for that information! I will definitely pick up that book. I only took one class in college – intro to Economics, but due to my listening to a lot of conservatives on the radio and reading here and there on conservative blogs, I have learned a great deal. I would like to learn more.
Can you tell me though – is it a relatively easy read in terms of being a lay person? I'm not much of a math person so if it involves too much math, my brain will shut down. That's why I went to law school! LOL!

Yes, it's a relatively easy read in terms of being a lay term. I am a layman in terms of economics, and I could not put it down. That's what is so great about the book, its designed for lay persons.
I did 400 pages in about 3 weeks. I recommend!

It certainly can be! I first started posting here when BH was the only Big site around, so I've seen the others rise up. More are on the way, like BigEducation, about the liberal control of public education in this country.
I normally just check my IntenseDebate profile when I first log in, where it lists all of your comments and how many replies you have to each. That way I don't miss something if they don't get emailed to me, or if they somehow end up in my junkbox or something.
I cast my vote for a BigEcon site, and if Sowell's book is Kindle-ready (haven't looked yet) it's going in my collection for summer reading!
I disagree with the author when he says "liberty is the muse we all share in common". That might have been a true statement 40 or more years ago, but no longer. I think people in this country have slipped into the kind of thinking that came out of the french revolution. And they substituted equality for liberty and there is a big difference. Liberty gives you the opportunity to be equal with any group you choose. But when government enforces equality you get socialism/communism.
We need to fight to preserve our liberty as the founding fathers meant it to be.

I think he's doing a pretty good job now. We'll make a lot more progress educating voters so they'll know better next time when a politician is lying to them. (Which is pretty much every time they open their mouths.)

Also, thank you for your service during Iraqi freedom. The freedom of tens of millions is truly a heart warming idea.

AMEN Ed! Property rights are the cornerstone of liberty. I have a right to what I own and earn. Nobody else does. If I choose to give of my property that is charity. If you take it from me by force that's called theft. If an institution or government takes it from me that's called SLAVERY.
Excess taxation and forced union dues are modern day slavery. Each deprive you of your property no recourse.
