The Leftist Entertainment Media Sure Is Excited About ‘The Tillman Story’
by John NolteI wonder how a certain left-wing film site will cover “The Tillman Story,” a documentary about Pat Tillman’s death in Afghanistan directed by Amir Bar-Lev and narrated by Josh Brolin (this Josh Brolin?) that’s set for a theatrical release August 20th.
Actually, I wonder how all of the leftist entertainment media will cover it. Will they be skeptical? Will they fact check? Will they even bother to pretend there might be another side to the story? These are rhetorical questions.
—-
Rhetorical or not, S.T. Vanairsdale of the hard-left film site Movieline looks as though he’s already answered the question:
[T]he trailer peels back a few preliminary layers of the documentary the Weinstein Company hopes can help elevate it back to Oscar heights next year. Moreover, director Amir Bar-Lev has a story to tell about the mistreatment of a soldier, his family and an entire American public by a government preoccupied with preserving the heroic tradition of its military at any costs — even at the expense of a selfless troop’s legacy.
It’s all twoo! It’s all twoo! because Hollywood told me so! It’s so true in fact that for the first time in who knows how long Vanairsdale put on suspension the shallow, superior snark that made him who he is.
And then there’s the L.A. Times, who offers up this reassuring headline…
In ‘Tillman’ and ‘Restrepo,’ a pair of Afghanistan movies that seek a place above politics
Well, what a relief that is. It’s not like the L.A. Times would say such a thing to sucker the unsuspecting into movie theatres if it weren’t true. Right…?
And so welcome to yet another episode of how your incurious, unskeptical, butt-boy entertainment media works. Well, unless of course the entertainment in question happens to fall outside the leftist narrative. If you remember it was Movieline and the L.A. Times who had no problem getting so curious and so skeptical about right-of-center musician Jonathan Kahn that both gave Google one helluva workout in order to allow the lies of omission to rain down like progressive tears at just the thought of a foreign terrorist not being read his rights.
Big Hollywood hasn’t seen “The Tillman Story.” It wasn’t even high on our radar. But when two of Tinseltown’s top leftist water-carriers carry this much water to assure us there’s nothing political to see here and then assume the highly defensive crouch of challenging us to ”smear” it…
Well, something’s up. And we very much appreciate them letting us know.

Do those assholes ever stop to think that maybe it's them? Maybe they're the ones dragging Pat Tillman's service through the mud with this political crap. No, of course not, what am I thinking?? Nothing they say or do could possibly be wrong, right??
Modern Hollywood + Military movie = Leftist propaganda. I'll bet the previews for this will actually play up the HERO part and make it looks like it's a positive movie about his life in order to sucker people into the theater.
I've got a conservative movie/tv review blog here http://hollywoodpropaganda.wordpress.com
Check it out, and if you like it, pass it on to others!
Good blog, have it bookmarked….
It seems to me, the only ones "using" Pat Tillman are left-wing d-bags. They trash a brave warrior just to stick it to the military and the Bush administration.
Disgusting, just disgusting.
And Josh Brolin is so over-rated it's not even funny. Just look at the opening weekend for Jonah Hex, nice one there Josh…..
These lefties couldn't give a rats ass about Pat Tillman. They thought he was a stoooopid jock when he was playing football and then plain stooopid for joining the Army instead of making millions (never satisfy them). Now they're going to use his corpse to take another hit at Bush. One thing about the left, they have no cooth or class and it shows everyday. Josh Brolin wasn't even that entertaining in the Goonies. No one watched 'W'. Pat Tillman was a hero and was killed by friendly fire. Tragedy. But to score points is a disgrace. Nothing new from our friends on the left. Proof? They turned Ted Kennedy and Paul Wellstone's funerals into political rallies. Scum.
It’s all twoo! It’s all twoo!
Isn't that spelled It's tuwoo! It's tuwoo!?
Well, something’s up. And we very much appreciate them letting us know.
Modern liberals always will. They have to lash out, cry, complain, wail, gnash teeth, etc., queue The Oprah and Dr. Phil.
For the life of me I can't figure how you guys on the right didn't figure this out decades ago.
Nope. Trust me, I used to be one. No, its all about them. They need to make a statement, do something, change the world.
Thankfully most of them are satisfied with ribbon or a bumper sticker. But there are those who will stop at nothing to satisfy their low self esteem and prove themselves useful.
So in other words they will release these to the public audiances and they will fail like all the other movies and we will pay for them in Tax Credits to Hollywood and funds to the NEA.
I, for one, am glad you're a recovering pinko. I live up near one of the bumper sticker capitals – Seattle. I agree with you that it's about them and how THEY feel. That's why most of their "Great" ideas fail. But at least they tried. Right?
Exactly like the Wellstone Memorial. That was one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen.
Booing political opponents at a funeral? Under the influence of alcohol, I've done some pretty stupid and thoughtless things in my life, but to do something like that at a funeral? Even at my worst I'd still get a couple of family and friends together and throw the asses out.
This train of thought is exactly why the left supports abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide and death panels. It's because to the left the collective is more important than the individual. That's the failure of their ideology.
Yes they are real. Anyone wishes to call me on this, let me save you the trouble of trying to prove me wrong. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=5517492&...
Who you callin' a Pinko?
I'm a Classical Liberal, always have been, and always will be. The left has just trashed the word so now we go by libertarian.
I didn't leave the democrats, they left me.
Now that we have that out of the way, yes, it's a empathy vs. sympathy conflict. If you feel empathy, you want to actually solve the problem. If you feel sympathy, you vote for a politician who promises to fix it.
Do you think it's because liberals are notoriously immature and can't handle absolutes? Like death? Or are they just selfish asses to who everything and everyone is a pawn or prop? Selling their cause trumps everything?
I meant it with all due respect.

Yes. They have issues with the abstract thought it takes to understand the greater reality around them.
They can handle the day to day stuff for the most part, but when they start thinking about bigger issues, they get lost easily, and cling to broad general movements as a life saver.
The activists on left take advantage of that and I find it despicable. I mean, global warming, who could possibly be against saving the planet? That is so lame.
When understanding the left you need to know there are many different levels to it. The thin layer at the top are reprehensible, and seriously make me question my adherence to Thou Shalt Not Kill.
The mid level that keeps it working is just as disgusting, but it's a free country and if they want to be idiots and asses, I'm a libertarian.
But the vast majority are just along for the ride. Treat those liberals respectfully, engage them in civil debate, get them thinking about what they really do support, you'll start cranking out Reagan democrats.
I know. That's why I came back at you.
Maybe its just because I live in NY, but if you don't insult people you like from time to time, they start wondering if you still like them.
Well the top two levels seem to be the squeaky wheels. It's all you hear. I sometimes forget there are still civil people in the world.
There are, it's tuwoo, it's tuwoo!
Sorry couldn't resist.
The vast majority of the left is very civil, very nice, and simply doing their best to raise their family, keep a roof over their heads, food on the table. They go to service on Sunday (or Friday or Saturday), they support their communities. That is the real America. They are there, I know, I'm, surrounded by them.
They're good folks. Show them respect and they;ll show it too you. And then get them thinking.
Based on Hollywood's track record of films and "documentaries" re: the Iraq and Afghanistan war, I think it's fair to say it will probably tilt ever-so slightly to the left! But then again you've got that bastion of objectivity Josh Brolin. who I'm sure will balance it right out!
I'll try and not be so cynical then. The loud ones really drown out the civil ones. Especially on the left.
It all depends on how you want to transcribe Madeline Kahn's cute little lisp.
I was trying to remember where I heard that. Thanks for the clue below for Blazing Saddles.
Josh, from the loins of Mr. "Happy 9/11" – James Brolin. Mr. Babs Streisand. Do you think she uses the genital cuff on him? Because you know who runs that house and it ain't him.
I heard Wellstone donated his body to safety. I'm not sure what speedbump he's buried under.
What nailed it for me that this film was going to be a Michael Moore-type hit job was the clip of Rumsfeld testifying and saying (from my memory of the clip), "I don't recall how I learned of what happened." Who would?!!! Who would remember, especially a man who's Sec Def, the nuance of how he learned of Tillman's death? The 'how' is meaningless and that's my point. But it's presented as part of a coverup. Shameful MM-type propaganda.
Language note: This really irks me (I hear politicians doing it all the time) and the quote from the Movieline guy reminded me of it. The singular of "troops" is "trooper" not "troop" — unless you're referring to a cavalry unit, in which "troop" is roughly the equivalent of "company" (just as a battalion-sized cavalry unit is called a squadron).
It indicates a real ignorance of military matters, but I suppose it's not as bad as "corpse man."
Ok, THAT was funny…
OT, but…..
On ABC news I just saw the most blatent appeal to racial prejudice that I have ever wittnessed when Nikki Haley "could pass for Caucasian", "but was born Nimrata Nikki Randhawa"
That's part of their game plan. Drown everything out. We were conditioned to never, ever, consider a different point of view. The very idea that we were wrong was heresy.
Respectfully show them we're not. It's pretty easy. And it worked on me.
Then Obama is the poster boy for todays liberal. He's never wrong about anything. Hell even Biden tells people he's smarter then them – to their faces. But I think he got robbed at the Hair Club for Men. It's not working.
Yep.
Than them. Sorry, it won't happen again – on this post!
Pat Tillman was never more and certainly never less a hero than he is right now. Tillman stands a great American and soldier and will not be raised higher by or taken down by this movies portrayal of events. The truth is important but facts and words can be manipulated or used selectively to influence perception. I truly hope his family does not come out looking bad to those who just want to honor the man and not use his sacrifice to attack our military and it's leaders. A large archive of films could be made about this current government and what it is doing to our freedom but so much effort goes to these kinds of leftist-glory seeking "exposes."
The Left loves Tillman the same way it loves blacks on welfare and illegal immigrants – only so long as he can be used as a weapon against America. The moment he can't is when the Left stops loving and starts hating him.
Tillman will never know the difference.
I don't know about their 'inability to handle absolutes.' The thing that really confuses me about the Left is that the issues they claim are simple are in fact helplessly complicated, and all the things they claim are complicated are pathetically simple in real life.
I look forward to seeing this film. One thing the right and all of the military apologists can't deny is that McChrystal and his subordinates engaged in a cover up to try and keep the public from knowing the truth about Tillman's death. The bottom line is these scumbags lied to the American people and tried to paint Tillman's death as a rallying cry for a war that has now turned into our generation's Vietnam. So please., continue to wrap yourselves in the flag and deny the facts in front of you.
Agreed. I would say that they purposely make things complicated so that they can solve it. Like the fireman who starts a fire so he can put it out and be the hero. Whatever the case. That's where their esteem comes from. Making crises out of things so that they feel good about doing something about it. Like constant self-gratification. But it's ongoing and never stops. Like the ribbons and wrist bands, etc. Does that make any sense?
lol. I love the sound of that, I noticed something similar recently.
My mate cooked for a group of us the other week and afterward I said "thanks that was great" he was quite so I looked at him and he had a suspicions look on his face. He was waiting for me to insult him and as I hadn't he was thrown off guard and didn't know how to react.
"seek a place above politics" = politics (ours, not yours)
Who says we didn't figure it out?! Truth is, we just figured you all were a bunch of wierdos with way too much time on your hands, and a serious adversion to growing up! Never in our wildest dreams did we foresee another round of commies taking over the White House – that's our fatal error, too busy laughing at the dumb ass code pink freaks to watch what the rest of them were really doing –
When I had posed my query to you weeks ago, I honestly figured there HAD to be more to it, it's so pathetic and juvenile I figured there was something more to it – all of it would be laughable still, but now we have a bunch of criminals running the country – I'm looking forward to the day they start eating one another, power hungry freaks – oh, and when rahm gets hauled off to jail, that will be a gold star day for us
perjury is still a crime whether barry wants to believe it or not!
A Liberal and a Libertarian are VERY different animals.
you sound fat….
It's the ones that pull this crap that give me the red ass. Complete disregard for Tillman's family, the men and women that served with him, and the people that have the utmost respect for the example that Pat Tillman demonstrated with his uindeniable courage.
Let this brave warrior rest in peace and honor….
Throughout histroy the circumstances of a persons demise in battle have been distorted mostly to provide some comfort to the family of the deceased. A guy may have shot himself in the rear echelon and the parents recieve notice how bravley their boy died facing the enemy. It is more of a courtesy than a deception.
But what can we expect from the Weinstein bros. except more Treasonous, anti American, pedantic crap.
I'm an Eric Hoffer Liberal, myself, and find myself in the same situation.
He wanted to be just as annoying in his afterlife as he was when he was alive, but I have to admit, the little fella was a fighter.
Wellstone was a fighter?
I did not know him well… Just that he was an irritating libtard…
Jake,
"the issues they claim are simple are in fact helplessly complicated, and all the things they claim are complicated are pathetically simple in real life."
AMEN Brother! Well said!
I'm keeping that one…
He was an irritating Libtard, but he never pretended to be anything else. What you saw, was what you got. He was a wrestler in college, and was willing to fight for what he believed, even if he was all on his own.
I respect that.
An honorable opponent.
I've learned to respect my enemies, and to have the greater contempt for the traitors in our ranks. I wish we had the time to start a viable third party, but our only option is to clean house and work with what we've got.
There are different forces at work here, while the left may appear to be a bunch of whining babies, there is a whole lot more going on.
For simplicity I usually break the left up into three main groups. At the bottom you have the foot soldiers in the trenches. For the most part they are mostly good, decent people, working for a living, raising a family, building a home, supporting their community. They are so busy with their own lives, they really don't pay that much attention to issues larger than their own family. They are nice people. Treat them with respect, engage them in open, honest debate, and get them to think. They are your mythical Reagan democrats.
On top of that you have the layer that perpetuates the ideology. Academia, union leaders, activists, entertainers. They're a bit on the slimy side, but not overly evil. They're just convinced they are right and if you disagree, you are wrong. Don't waste much time on those types, there's no reasoning with them. Their only use as far as I can tell is they help convince the foot soldiers that they really should start thinking more for themselves. They make excellent examples.
At the very top, you have the scum that rises to the top of a pond. They know this is all a lie, and they don't care. They're in it for power and money. They are your politicians, party officials, think tanks, George Sorros types. They are the ones to be opposed at every turn. In my opinion, most of them are just down right evil.
Now I admit this is an overly simplified categorization. But it does outline the fact that there are many levels to the left. And as you progress up the pyramid, they get worse and worse.
Hope that helps.
Amen to all you say here my brother.
It is too late for finesse. We must grasp control of our destiny and steer our nation away from the cliff and get back on the correct path.
Cleaning house will start today and we will need to keep it rolling until we can pass white glove inspections.
Speaking of inspections. When I was stationed in Germany, we were having an IG inspection and Top told me to have my guys repaint their bunks and footlockers. We did, and everything was now Cerulian blue. When the IG saw this, he had his aide consult the regs. I'd done my homework, and knew there was no color specified therein. Yeah, I was pretty fearless then, and not much scares me today.
I assumed Top smoked you for being a smart aleck afterwards…
My ears are STILL ringing….
Later, he bought me a drink at the NCO club, and made me promise to never pull anything like that again.
i see what you did there with that first sentence…..how you accepted their "challenge" by mimicking it. awwww, that was SO cute. another lover's quarrel, i presume? i bet the make-up sex is going to be AMAZING.
seriously, though, just get over it already. you both play the same relative roles but for opposing sides. anyone who chooses to so heavily align themselves with a "side," tend to inherently lend credence only to that which supports their choice. that's fine if you all would just own up to that, and stop masquerading as real journalists; and by "real" i mean "objective."
"media," these days, is about entertainment…..far too many opinions and not enough facts. so stop getting your panties in a wad when your left/right-wing counterpart shows bias towards his/her "side" as if you don't. you're not fooling anyone. oh, wait….you are. shit.
Pat Tilman is a brave hero. The military and country he devoted his life to did a huge disservice to Tilman by intentionally lying about the circumstances of his unfortunate and accidental death. There are many men who die in the combat zone and many of them die in circumstances that aren't necessarily due to enemy gunfire while they are running through the city trying to save their buddy. Sometimes horrible stuff just happens and people die. Lying to Tilman's parents about the circumstances of his death was wrong. They should have either been told that the circumstances aren't available due to security concerns, or they should have told them the truth. Lying is wrong.
I'm not sure we need an entire movie dedicated to showing the many people lied in the military to cover up embarrassing details. I for one will not be watching any fictionalized version of such event. I would be more interested in reading official reports and articles by researches and scholars about it.
You mean he wasn't sure if he learned the truth about Tilman's death from one of his Generals in the Pentagon, or from the New York Times? I find that hard to believe. Rumsfeld was quite aware of Tilman and the use of Tilman by the administration as a tool for recruiting even more young men and women to join the service. Rumsfeld is a lying and conniving snake, but he's not stupid. He knows goddamn well when and where he was when he learned from the Pentagon that Tilman's death was accidental and not the original lie that they released.
How is that racial prejudice? If I say, "I just met someone named Shawniqua Tyreesha Washington, but surprisingly she is Caucasian.", is that racist? I'm not suggesting that the name is good or bad, but only commenting that it is much more common or likely for such a name to be given to a black person, from a family that speaks African-American Vernacular Language. Equivalent would be, "Surprisingly the Chinese man was named, Alberto Julio Gonzales". Neither comment is racist, unless the purpose and intent of the comment is to humiliate, embarrass, or denigrate someone.
Tilman's family cares about the fact that the government deliberately lied to them for months about what happened. I'm quite certain that doesn't make a compelling movie, especially by Josh Brolin, but the story is important and hopefully the Pentagon has learned a lesson about how it should treat similar events in the future.
There is no doubt the Pentagon lied. They have admitted as much. I'm just not sure how that makes a compelling or even interesting movie. Why do I want to watch a bunch of liars I despise sit and lie to Tilman's family for 110 minutes? I've read the story in the papers. I've seen the reports from the Pentagon about it. That's all I need to know about it. Dramatizing the event years later would make sense if it was historically important or interesting in some manner, but this story doesn't seem like it's either of those to me.
No, that's not what I meant. Again, the 'how' of being told is to galacticaly irrelevant that the most likely reason for its insertion into the film, and a trailer at that, is to further distort the truth.
Other grammatical irks of mine are: article "a" preceding nouns, adjectives, adverbs beginning with a vowel.
Also I've noticed "then" being used instead of "than."
…weird.
LOVE that story!
Hoew long before some other guy had to re-paint? A more proper color pf course…
I agree that the military should've come clean with his parents. There is no shame in what happened to Pat Tillman at all.
BUT
Does it need to be used as a club to beat up the military? Does it need to be made into a propaganda piece for the left? How is that any better than what the military did?
I repainted everything after I came back from TDY. I think it was about a week later….Top gave me a hand…
A backhand???
Most good Tops I've known would have done the same…
