Singer Sophie B. Hawkins Attends Tea Party — Slams Hollywood, Obama For Not Doing Enough For Gulf
by John Nolte—–
Couple of songs mixed with celeb apostasy is always a pleasant way to start out a new week.
A Hillary supporter, before, after, and between songs, Sophie lashes out at Hollywood’s lack of response to the Gulf, President Obama’s breathtaking lack of leadership, voices her opposition to the war in Iraq, and talks about becoming a “former liberal” who now feels the sting of apostasy and the pressure to tow the pro-Obama line.
—–
In an interview with my pal Bridget Johnson over at The Hill, the singer went even further. Good heavens, she attended a Tea Party! Here are some highlights. Be sure to read the whole thing:
Singer Sophie B. Hawkins told The Hill on Thursday that “America’s being thrown under the bus” by President Barack Obama as he presses forward with his agenda and comes under criticism for his response to the Gulf oil spill. ….
She describes herself as a centrist who’s identified with the Democratic and Green parties, but said even though she’s never been Republican she wouldn’t cross that vote off the list if the right leader came along.
In fact, she’s open to a Republican Congress. ….
Hawkins said she attended a Tea Party rally in Santa Monica, Calif., that was “mostly all Democrats.”
“The Tea Parties are only here because people are not listening,” she said.
What she sounds like is someone in the middle of a political awakening who’s especially tired of being told what to think by the elite media and even more elite celebrity class. Let’s hope she knows what’s she’s getting into. The leftist enforcers in the entertainment media should start questioning the Grammy-nominated singer’s talent and sanity any day now … because that’s what they do.
And when they do, Big Hollywood looks forward to responding.
Is it me or does Ms. Hawkins have that ridiculously appealing Catherine Keener vibe working for her? Mixed with that sexy willing-to-think-for-herself gene, I might just have to become a groupie.

The oil must have seeped into the Obama Kool Aid.
Am I the only one the link to the Hill article isn't working for?
Brava, Miss Hawkins! And good luck pushing back against the people who're gonna try to get you back in line!
Who would have thunk it? The "self professed 'omni-sexual'" singer for the free love anthem "Damn, I wish I was your lover" would turn on Obama?
But then again Ms. Hawkins always followed her own beat.
See what happens when people think for themselves?
Good for you Ms Hawkins, good for you….
(facetious agro here)
…ah…yah… Sorry, but this is Fox News so it doesn't count… as per the White House, its a shill for Republican party… so we need to treat the #1 news cable channel… as a shill… ya know, the only news channel gaining viewers… as well the ONLY biased channel… the ONLY one to call out and try to censor… along with talk radio… & anything christiany!
Whatever happened to that Whitehouse ploy anyway???
Love her voice, love her vibe, and now I respect her for speaking out! Way to go, Sophie, way to go.
I don't know. How do you claim to be for "smaller government" and still stand behind Hillary Clinton, or any Democrat, really? I hope she keeps thinking this through.
She may sell more records now, but she'll definitely be scratched off the Grammy list for sure! How dare her defy her occupation's party line!

If you like it pass it on!
Hillary as queen of the Tea Party? Who knew?
Three guesses who wants to run for President in 2012.
Several humorous cartoons on

And what he has managed to send to help in the clean-up of the gulf at http://drawfortruth.wordpress.com/category/big-oi... I posted this link yesterday . . . but if you haven't seen it yet, I think it may make you smile!
Whoa, I did a total double take when I read the name. Had to check if she was the "I wish I was your lover" singer. Interesting. Go Sophie!
I used to love her hair back when I was in jr. high.
Love, LoVE, LOVE Sophie. One of the most under-rated and under-used talents in music.
Now we know why. She has a brain and does not follow the sheep herd.
She's also a lesbian which does not help if you don't sleep with the music producers.
Thank you Sophie for speaking up! As a conservative I dont expect EVERYONE to agree with EVERYTHING I believe in – just the fundamentals, like understanding and seeking implementation of the Constitution, instead of a constant denigration and wiping out of that document. We have it WRITTEN DOWN so we know exactly what was meant 200+ yrs ago. If youre against the war, fine. We can quibble about that, but if you stand with me and saying that for all its faults America is the last best hope for freedom in this world, then Im with you!!
It is a very minor point but twice today on the Big's I have seen the phrase "…tow the line…". The proper phrase is "toe the line" as in conform to a rule or standard as opposed to "crossing the line". Tow the line would mean to pull it along as in tow truck. Anyway, my 2cents.

Thanks for speaking up for proper useage!!
Good for her. I'm glad that conservative entertainers, e.g., Janine Turner, Jon Vought, Sophie B. Hawkins, are willing to stand against Hollywood liberalism. Too bad that Hollywood is petty and will boycott! and ignore anybody who isn't liberal or criticizes Obama. E.g., Nashville.
Conservatives welcome her.
She may never become a card carrying Republican (which is fine, because right now they suck, too!), but as you all have pointed out – she is thinking for herself and that is a step in the right direction.
I think many former liberals become more libertarian than conservative, especially socially conservative. And that's fine, too.
As long as she is thinking for herself, as that is the most important thing an American can do.
'Hawkins said she attended a Tea Party rally in Santa Monica, Calif., that was “mostly all Democrats.” '
That is the take-away line for the article!
Don't you love it when puppies finally open their eyes?
Welcome to the club, Sophie.
I love Sophie's music and her attitude
I get goose bumps when her music plays on the radio
I have been wanting to see her live but I guess she hates the south, never a show south of the Mason Dixon line
Good for her and finally seeing the light
She is / was a big Hillary supporter
Sophie finally leaving the Dark Side
/Wooohooo
Ok… I'll take this low hanging fruit…
Damn! I wish I was her lover!
What's sad is that the same could also be asked of people who blindly vote for Republicans over and over. When's the last time the government shrank? Republicans have been in charge any number of times yet it's never happened. The government simply continues to grow no matter who's in charge.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me a hundred times…

Here ya go
Mr. Nolte
You should have given links to her sites
Tsk, tsk…not all music producers are men…just saying…
She is going to get so much grief for this from her lefties. Don't expect much follow-up.
Sorry, never heard of her.
Sophie B Hawkins +1
It is always glorious when someone begins to see the light. Welcome Sophie, the truth is not always pleasant to face, but ignorance is bliss for only so long.
I agree, that is a real reason to be optimistic about November and the future of the USA.
Hillary is in a bad spot. Does she cut and run from a sinking ship, or does she stay loyal and enjoy the trappings of being Sec of State? Lots of risks either way. She needs the good council of Big Bill if she can tear him away from the pleasures of the flesh.
Look in her eyes, this lady is going to be voting for liberals until the day she dies.
Sophie used to be a bit peculiar…but I see she's grown up a bit, and still lovely as ever. She's certainly on a journey of discovery. Soon she's bound to realize that Hillary isn't the solution to Obamanation either.
Sophie's a true flower child – not a marxist nut job. I salute her courage.
Meh. Not impressed. It seems we on the right are so desperate to find a single leftist with an ounce of brains that we'll claim any convert who merely says a single critical thing about the obama regime. Don't hold out much hope for waking leftists up. Over 99.99999% of these people will go from cradle to grave admiring and agreeing with every ultra-liberal kook in hollywood. She's not one of us and should stick to liberalism as far as I'm concerned.
naw, she only needs to consult her best buddy soros – hillacrat will always do what is best for her, not the the country, not you and me, but for herself -
"Look in her eyes, this lady is going to be voting for liberals until the day she dies. "
Maybe so but there is one thing that we might be able to do that would be beneficial. Find a way to carve liberals away from the Marxists. There is a difference between a liberal that wants to give some money tothe "needy" and the statist that wants control of your life. The one is misguided and you can convince them the "help" is best not controled by the government. The other is malevolent and simply wants power.
The thing I like about the TEA party is that it is accepting of democrats. It is staying issues focused, less government, support the founder's constitution and not Justice Warren's, eliminate the deficit and more. Things that they will remain active about. When the TEA party congressman want to cut pork like Gingritch tried to cut farm subsidies in '84 they will be the popular voice shouting down the MSM directed Mantra because they fight for the issue. I'll take Sophie's voice on that side even if I disagree with her on other things.
If Shillery got fired, I think that could help her. But if that happened and she were to make another run at the WH, she would have a lot of back peddling, and explaining, to do. It is rare for someone to run for their party's nomination for POTUS against the incumbent POTUS, let alone win; in fact I don't think that has ever happened.
In reference to this thread, I am not familiar with Sophie B. Hawkins, or her music, but will say one thing about her, 'you go girl!'
Very well put.
I agree that she will do first and foremost what is in her best interest. Was it a miscalculation in her thinking when she accepted the post of Sec of State, that Obama was a shoe-in for a second term? Things have changed in 18 months. Now she risks being tarnished with being disloyal if she jumps ship to run against "The One".
and spelling! "u-s-a-g-e"
D'oh!
It's Bush's fault!
after crossing over to the dark side shes toast now.
