If he is as concerned about saving the planet as he said he is (…every fiber of my being…), my suggestion to him would be to sell the buses, and hold all your concerts over the internet. Then you won't be using as much fuel, electricity, etc, and people won't use fuel to get to your concerts. Maybe all of these hypocrite "stars" should do something like this if they are soooooo concerned. But they won't. They love the almighty dollar much more than the planet. Such hypocrites.

First, I'm not even buying his "grow fuel" claim. And, when he's having these buses and equipment truck caravans and planes criss-crossing, various countries to play his music for all the unwashed, to what….enlighten us and make us better people…? Does it not get any clearer that this environmental movement is a frontal attack on the poor and middle class? If you are poor, paying more to offset your travel will make it less possible for you to travel at all. But Dave here can get away with it because he has money. He hides his class warfare assault in the name of the environment. They are literally trying to turn their hoarding of resources into a humanitarian cause. The rich will not have their slightest freedom affected … they can buy their way to happiness, but they refuse to let anyone else have it.

I'm liberal-minded and have been working on my family's farm from 4 AM until 6 PM every day since I was 18. We neither have money busting out the seams of our pockets nor do we live off welfare. Considering I also work 3 out of the 7 days a week busing tables so that I can put myself through night school the other 4 days a week, I would say I have some sense of work ethic. Now you may be scratching your noggin asking, "well how did that work out?" Let me tell you: I got to be a liberal by reading lots (books are free at libraries. Shocking!) and by laying off what the farking television says. Some people love to spew facts without getting all of the details. First of all, DMB is not touring next year in 2011, so that should help ease the burden on the environment that everyone's so up in arms with. Second, is this really bad advice if you can manage it? Save money and improve your health by walking to work (if possible)?
Lastly, for those of you who complain about Dave spewing nonsense and being rich/know-nothing… double check your facts before saying he was the one who personally dumped feces onto a riverboat. His driver did this while alone in the bus. The driver was fired immediately and DMB did whatever they could to not only make it up to the people but to the entire city as well.
Also, DMB offsets all of their personal carbon emissions after each tour. I know this will all go unnoticed as it doesn't fit with this pages message which people will of course re-iterate time and time again, but please try and get some more facts before bashing him. There are a lot of stupid celebrities out there, someone trying to spread a good message shouldn't be shot down every single time. Dave Matthews Band, with the help of environmental non-profit Reverb, initiated a number of large-scale environmental efforts on their 2007 summer tour and enabled fans to take part.
Environmental efforts included:
• Using B20 Biodiesel (20% Biodiesel, 80% petroleum diesel) in all tour busses and trucks. Biodiesel is a domestically produced vegetable-based alternative to petroleum diesel that emits over 75% less CO2 and reduces dependency on foreign oil.
• Neutralizing CO2 emissions from venue energy use, hotels, flights, touring vehicles, and fan travel. The tour's "carbon footprint" was calculated by Reverb and then neutralized through NativeEnergy by supporting the construction of new renewable energy projects such as wind farms that reduce energy demands from carbon-emitting power sources such as coal-fired power plants.
• Reducing and recycling plastic, aluminum, paper and cardboard waste backstage.
• Sustainable supplies and goods such as biodegradable and reusable catering products and local and organic food.
• Eco-friendly organic cotton and bamboo merchandise for fans.
• Inviting scores of local and national environmental groups to be a part of the Eco-Village to educate and engage fans.
Reverb calculates a total of over 3,300,000 pounds of CO2 reduced or eliminated on tour through the use of Biodiesel and carbon offsets alone. This is equivalent to removing over 190 homes from the power grid for a year, or not burning 171,000 gallons of gasoline. Over one third of this carbon reduction is a direct result of fan participation in the Reverb Fan Carbon Offset Program, where concertgoers neutralized the CO2 from over 1,200,000 miles of driving to and from shows.
