‘Glee’ Sucker Punches Republican Fans
by John NolteMust be nice being a leftie and NEVER having to worry about some childish television creator taking a gratuitous shot — from completely out of nowhere — at what you believe in. Not so for we righties. When all we want after a hard day of gay bashing, cross burning and kitten punting is to get lost in mindless entertainment, we always have to worry about stuff like this:
——
This is why I stopped watching television over a decade ago. Tired of being insulted. Tired of being disappointed. And you can practically feel the people behind the childish political shot laughing at your Charlie Brown as they once again pull the football away.
“Glee” spent all of last season building up buzz and an audience, and as soon as they get one: POW!
Screw you, righties. We don’t like you and we think you’re stupid for liking Palin.
But it’s more than that. This stuff matters.
“Glee” is millions of dollars of sound and fury aimed squarely at your children. And as we can now see, the creators are all about getting between you and your kids with their political and social agendas. They know Palin is a growing political force and nothing’s off the table when it comes to marginalizing her – even at the expense of their own show’s entertainment value – even at the expense of audience share.
It’s just a joke, it’s just a joke. Lighten up!
Nice try, Alinskyite.
#1: These jokes always seem to fall one way.
#2. These jokes are everywhere in entertainment. In fact, there are so many Big Hollywood can barely keep up with them.
Advertisers spend billions of dollars to run the same television commercials again and again and again. The goal is to change minds, buying patterns and behavior. They do it because it works and the entertainment industry is doing the exact same thing with their drip-drip-drip proselytizing.
At the Southern Republican Leadership Conference the boss asked the crowd if they figured out yet that the Left is at war with them.
If you haven’t figured it out yet…

Smart shows don't do this sort of thing. It's more common on networks for some reason. They would be wise to cut this out, but seeing how the show is a hot, they might even double down. I hope not. There are some really talented singers on the show, but the writers will kill it if they keep this up. Last season they had a dig at Glenn Beck fans.
Okay call me out of touch, but what is "Glee" and why should I give a sh*t what "He/She/It" has to say?………….Shows like this are why I read books………A lot……….
I've never seen this show, but I do remember someone on the cast, whose name escapes me, on Red Eye a month of so ago. From the interview I saw, the impression I got was that "Glee: wasn't going to be a lefty/lib-type show. That this happened, I can't say that I'm too surprised.
Like Mr. Nolte, I don't watch network TV at all, for no other reason that they're is nothing I find interesting to watch, aside from sports.
Wait kitten punting is actual work? I love my job!
Did anyone also notice the anti semitic remark about Rachel being something or other in an Israeli kind of way…Is this a bad thing? I have just deleted Glee from the TIVO
The show is clever and funny but the humor is usually the vulgar and mean kind that seems to be so popular.
Lets see:
Quinn: Cheerleader who is a Christian and President of the Abstinence Club and gets knocked up. The only kind of Christian the writers can ever think up are hypocritical ones.
In one of the early shows Quinn is leading the Abstinence Club and remarks about their cheer leading uniforms, "God bless the perv who designed these things."
Quinn's dad is a Glenn Beck watching troglodyte who can't handle his daughter turning into a woman.
The other female lead character, Rachel is being raised by two gay men.
The male lead is being raised by a single mother who comments during a driving lesson with her son, "Who says you need a man (or words to that effect)"
Yes the show otherwise funny and clever? Yes.
Are the musical segments entertaining? Yes.
But from day one it has been a heartily raised middle finger to everyone in flyover country.
In a way, I kind of like it. It shows the true colors of liberals. All they can do is hurl insults like a third grader.
George W. Bush… he's a stupidhead!
Sarah Pain… she's a stupidhead!
Funny how these two mind-numblingly stupid people, who apparently couldn't even tie their own shoes if they were velcro, both became governors of two of the largest states in the Union. And of course, one moved on to become president. Twice.
So, actually, when liberals say these things, what they really mean is the people who elected and follow them are stupidheads. So they're insulting you. The viewer. I'm no TV executive, but it doesn't seem like such a great rating move to alienate half your audience.
I cannot agree more with the boss. the cultural war is the one that goes to the heart of who we are. It is the one that stirs up emotion and passion. That's why we need to fight the battles in the culture war. The rot & decay that you see and smell is a result of people of traditional values fearing/ignoring the fundamentalist anti-American anti-Western secular humanists that look to project their self-loathing onto our society by declaring war on our culture.
I know that the boss will honorably fight in the media but each of us has to be a soldier in this fight as well.
Be armed with the facts and be guided by the rightness of your cause.
And in this war, it's no quarter for traitors and usurpers. – that's how they fight – so give it right back!
Give me a break. You can call Obama a socialist/fascist/communist, have teabagger supporters call for killing liberals, and spend tens of millions of dollars going after the Clintons, but you can't take a joke?
No wonder no one takes right wingers seriously anymore.
So sick of this liberal brainwashing. Glee wont last no more than three seasons.
So sick of this liberal brainwashing. Glee wont last no more than three seasons.
You're forgetting something. In the Glee universe Sue Sylvester, the cheerleading coach, is the living embodiment of evil. Having her say that Sarah Palin is stupid is the same as a show like Law & Order having a character who is clearly supposed to be Dick Cheney saying that Barack Obama is incompetent.
The audience is not supposed to agree with Sylvester about Palin any more than when she says that America should cane people like Singapore or that schools shouldn’t have handicapped access ramps because they encourage laziness.
The woman that slammed Palin was the one that was on Red Eye. I've never seen Glee and don't watch any kind of sitcom or network drama. I wish Red Eye was on 22 hours a day. I think 2 hours off per day is enough for Greg to take care of "that mess" down in his basement.
Well honestly, "genius" Alaska may be the largest state in size, but being the governor, who skipped out on half her term, of Alaska is nothing to brag about. 750,000 people I believe is the population. Sarah Palin is dense like molasses, she's NOONE to be proud of, and I say this as an Alaskan resident who is one of many who dislike her.
Here is my rule for any entertainment medium: You can make fun of the right and have fun, ONLY as long as you're equally as mean-spirited and take an equal amount of stabs to the left. That is why South Park is looked highly among conservatives. I also admire Scrubs for having half the characters be republican during the Iraq episode.
But there are too many counter-examples of this, and why I also don't watch television. I've never heard of Glee before this, and frankly, have no desire to find out more.
Obama is a socialist, leaning toward fascist/communist. This is shown by his associations and his actions as president to this point.
Those who support the Tea Party have to endure your vulgar name calling of "teabagger".
Show me the evidence of the Tea Party "supporting killing liberals".
What idiocy. No wonder no one here will take you seriously.
Glee looks stupid as hell. Basically all I watch is Lost and it is the only show I know of with ZERO Liberal crap in it.
“Glee” is millions of dollars of sound and fury aimed squarely at your children. And as we can now see, the creators are all about getting between you and your kids with their political and social agendas.
While I do think that it’s patently obvious there is an agenda being pushed by many in the entertainment industry, I don’t think that this particular joke is part of that. I think it’s just a consequence of the elitist bubble that these people live in. In their minds, they can’t see anyone but their “enlightened” leftist brethren watching the show, or at the very least, they simply don’t care about right-wingers in their audience. They think making fun of Palin is objectively hilarious and no more partisan than a Seinfeldian commentary on airline food.
Honestly, in this case, it doesn’t seem like their trying to push any sort of agenda. They think they’re just preaching to the choir.
They also took a shot at home schoolers. Anyone else catch that? Yet again, it was made by stupid cheerleaders, so again … not really a cheap shot.
These aren't sucker punches. I actually don't think liberals are these writers are smart enough to realize this though, so I think these are actually attempts to be cheap shots. Or they are smart and will couch their asinine behavior as jokes … kind of like raingods above.
Gee, Janet Napolitano, Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow, and the mainstream media certainly seem to take us seriously. As a threat, anyway. Funny how we can be both dangerous and irrelevant at the same time.
It's really weird how FOX is a very RIGHT wing network. Just to throw that out there. And you who says "Glee won't last no more than three seasons", go back and finish getting educated first, secondly, get over it. It's a TV show, if it bothers you all so much that they made a Sarah Palin joke, develop a sense of humor and move on with your life. Sarah Palin is FAR from all that and anyone with two sense should have gotten that by now.
Maybe it's hard for us to take you guys as "joker"s when you call Bush a Nazi, call Palin's child a retard, and wish the death of Cheney. You stupid, stupid hypocrite. Find some morals and come back then.
Morals? Republicans and morals? You must be high. I don't think politicians in general really have morals, but Republicans are the #1 offenders. Get off your delusional high horse.
I'm not a Republican, moron.
I love your defense! That's how liberals defend themselves; it's the only way they can. The ultimate hypocrisy. They don't respond saying that they are in fact moral people. They respond by saying someone else is just as amoral or perhaps worse.
Anyone ever notice that it's not about principles for liberals, but doing everything under the sun to get their way. Make no mistake, these punks don't care about torture. They only care WHO is being tortured.
3 seasons, lol
Seriously, what else would you expect from a show where every character is a stereotype? I guess it has stereotypical lib writers, too.
Besides the lib pimping with the Palin comment, the show has led to some good conversations between our teenage daughter, me and my wife. It gives our daughter an opportunity to see what passes for "relevant" pop culture, while giving us a chance to use the good and bad from each episode as teaching moments.
Does "skipped out" also apply to only ever voting "present"?
bass is too high, she called them teens
Glee was created by Ryan Murphy, co-creator of Nip/Tuck, who, according to World Magazine, "once declared that his goal is to remove any barrier to showing explicit sex on television." What a goal to live and work toward! He is continuing in the heroic footsteps of such people as Steven Bochco – another greatly talented man, with a stated goal of pushing the envelope of American conservative morality.
It's a shame – I'd like to be able to watch Glee – I enjoy the voices and productions, but, watching the second show, it was all too clear which wind was blowing this particular creation into town.
Ask yourself why these people don't joke about Obama. Does that make "cents" to you?
We can take a joke if it's funny but Obama is the one who goes screaming to Michelle when he gets insulted. Furthermore, you're the only one that no one likes. Must have got banned from the Huffington Post to come trolling here…
"Sarah Palin is dense like molasses, she's NOONE to be proud of"
so…in otherwords…"she's a stupidhead!"
You remind me of the 5 yr olds in "Kindergarden Cop" when all the little kids start calling an isolated child a "poopyhead" just because it sounds funny and everyone else is saying it. This site, and the posters on it are ADULTS. That's spelled A-D-U-L-T-S, honey. Now I'll tell you what I tell my homeschool daughter whenever she is reading a book when she comes across she is not familiar with: go look it up in the dictionary. I suggest you find the word ADULT in your own dictionary (you DO know what one is, dont you, little boy?) and learn some new words to vomit at us…like "courage" and "honor" and "integrity". That's something Palin has, and you don't.
As a fan of Glee, I was disappointed with how this first show played out. They didn't give us a chance to enjoy the results of first half of the season — all that wait to see Will and Emma get involved. It was the most interesting part for me, and we don't even get to watch a couple shows of it working out before throwing in the dynamite. Maybe they'll turn it around, maybe I'm not patient enough.
Nico and intelligence? He must be kidding…OH WAIT. I get it! ANOTHER JOKE. Saying Nico = smart and on the right side of the argument DOES makes me laugh…. BWAAAAHAAAAAHAAAAAA!!!
It's a show about high school and those were high schoolers making the 'home schooler' comment. Its not like we need a news flash to know that high school kids can be mean.
Would it make a difference to point out that the character making the Palin slam is the unabashed _VILLAIN_ of the show, who routinely makes horrible comments about all the other characters? She mercilessly berates the glee club members and mocks them for every racial/sexual/physical variation they possess. (In the same ep, she also roofies the school principal in order to take compromising photos in bed with him so she'll be reinstated in her job) Glee's Sue Sylvester is all kinds of horrible and un-pc and funny as hell, and Jane Lynch does a great job of playing such an unlikable person. As for the show overall? New season is trying too hard. I think appearing on Oprah is the new jumping the shark.
And do you ever think shows throw stuff in just because they know you'll jump and whine at every offense like trained seals and they'll get a good giggle?
It's funny…liberals only believe in the concept of "morals" if it's to accuse Republicans of not having them.
to be fair, i'll give you the following quote from jane lynch, the actress who made the palin dig.
This past year saw a nationwide rejection of legalising gay marriage, stripping gay Americans of their hope for equal civil rights. "Shouldn't there be safeguards against the majority voting on the rights of a minority?" Lynch wonders. "If people voted on civil rights in the 60s, it would have never happened. It took somebody like [President] Lyndon Johnson going, 'F all of you! I'm going to do this.'" She pauses for a moment, then says, "Obama won't do it. He's a huge disappointment to me."
i think its important to remember that while some of these people play parts, they are not necessarily their character.
YES!!! I used to work 2nd shift (in AZ) so I could watch Red Eye every night, sometimes more than once if I got home in time. Now I am strickly a day-shifter (in TN) and its not on until 2am
I hate this time zone!!
C'mon Lemuel! You're talking as though people would have to have watched the show before criticizing it!! Easier to take a short clip out of context and get all huffy!
You're not alone…after the long wait the ep was very flat and a retread of the first half of the season. Hopefully it'll pick up.
"…couldn't even tie their own shoes if they were velcro"
That is awesome! The rest of yor post is spot on too, but that is by far the BEST line!!
false argument. Pointing out someone elses weaknesses don't make hers go away.
If a show like "Glee" had that many Con fans (which I doubt considering it's a very gay show…not in the sense of being bad, but in the sense of having a gay character not to mention a lesbian actress). it won't make that much of a dent. Do your worst, cry babies. Wouldn't matter to me either way. I've only watched one episode and didn't feel all that strongly either way. It's just kind of pitful that one Palin joke is enough for Nolte to get his panties in a twist (and that is likely literal with him).
It is not about having a sense of humor. It is about waging a war against you and yours. We are coming for you all. And the thing about conservatives is that we do not surrender.
Oh, because of course, that whole post isn't insulting at all…
Really, of all the things that people have said, and can say about Mrs. Palin, Nico chose some kind words, and that is something, I think, you can appreciate. People are over-exaggerating this issue, yeah, TV is a pretty liberal medium, but then you don't necessarily have to watch it. And if the show contains teenagers getting pregnant, it probably isn't aimed at kids young enough to really affect their political attitude( unless for some reason you are letting a child that young watch it, in which case, you can't really blame them). I don't know, that's just my two cents.
The other female lead character, Rachel is being raised by two gay men.
The male lead is being raised by a single mother who comments during a driving lesson with her son, "Who says you need a man (or words to that effect)"
I don't necessarily see what is wrong with either of these points. Its not like homosexuals or single mothers raise children.
I am so glad I gave up TV a few years back. I can see I am not missing much nor is my teenage daughter (and yes she agreed to give it up too as we both found it a waste of time and money).
No not false argument – perfect correlation. If Palin is to be derided for "skipping out" then I want to know why Obama voted "present" (he NEVER voted yes or no on an issue – go look it up). Who had more courage? Palin, who stepped aside lawsuits harrassed her to the point of preventing her from doing her job or a lazy, marxist punk thug pig who just wanted the position of power and wouldnt do anything to prove he was worth the job? If you want to argue "false" arguments, you take Nico to task. Im not the one calling names here.
So Ryan Murphy has never seen Cinemax? I think they beat him too it.
You're not supposed to agree with anything those 3 characters say–they are the baddies of Glee, which I would say isn't a kids show at all. (The blond above's best line of the night was her opining that dolphins were just gay sharks. She has previously asserted that a ballad is a duck.) Older teens may watch it, and I hope parents would supervise, but for Nolte to say it's aimed squarely at kids is wrong. This isn't High School Musical by a long shot.
It doesn't make much of a difference because the villain is a product of the writers, and the writers can choose for the villain to say something else. It is the writers and everyone above them that authorizes the script making the attack against Palin, not the fictional villain. She's just a proxy.
you do realize this is a fox owned show, right?
And a point I would make is – its about time these writers come up with new ways to insult and be funny – the "joke" is OLD. Even if some of us didnt care for Palin, we're tired of the same mickey being employed. Get a new act if they want to be seen as 'edgy.'
The villain is saying something bad and distasteful…what am I missing? It's appropriate to a bad character.
I'll agree with you there….perhaps months ago when it was filmed the joke would have been only _slightly_ stale.
Hmmmm….
What's more kind?
Sir, I respectfully disagree with you that the role of government is not to suck dry every citizen who has a job and make them pay for dangerous medical procedures they are morally and Constitutionally opposed to, I disagree that the sovereignty of this nation does NOT depend on kowtowing to nations who gleefully declare they'd like to blow us to smithereens…but you know what? I believe in freedom and if you think that's the path we should go, then you should vote your conscience. I may not agree with what you say, but I'll fight for your right to say it.
OR
is this kinder?
"Palin is a poopyhead and youre too dumb to realize it!!"
Spare me.
and liberals took over hollywood by surrendering? Lets face it, this mentality leads to a state where neither side is ever willing to listen to any idea that doesn't fit very broad ideology. On that note, when you talk about waging ware and "coming for" people, you do not do a lot to kick that militant rap that the liberal media tends to give conservatives.
actually if you bothered to really read my statement before you went of on your defense of palin youd see that i sited both as having weaknesses. And personally, i'm not a fan of obama or palin, but thats just personal preference. I feel that both of them play up a level of dogma that prevents people from looking at them critically.
But irregardless, the false part, is that by pointing out this very real weakness of obama you do nothing to address the palin issue in that statement. It's like me saying cigarettes are bad for you and instead of addressing the issue you decide to say "so is cocaine!". Well thats true, but it aint really on topic.
If they really wanted to be "un-pc", they'd make fun of obama. Making fun of Sarah has become not only boring, but predictable.
The blond gal, that was it. That was the show we both watched. I share your regard with Red Eye, it's the best news show on. Glad I'm out here on the left coast, where it airs at midnight.
And then they're more prudish than a Victorian church lady.
This is why I stopped watching television over a decade ago.
Me, too. It actually started off with the sheer arrogance of the cable entity I had to deal with in an apartment insisting I needed to be there to hook up the cable (when they don't, I am quite capable of doing it myself and have before) and then not showing on the day I took off.
is struggling to understand how "progressive" could be insulting/a bad thing… oh well, it's probably a concept to difficult for my own, liberal, progressive, left-wing, socialist-leaning(no, this does not me that I am a marx/lenin/stalin/etc.lover) , gay, Canadian, mind to comprehend. But seriously, if you don't change with the changes, you'll get left behind. It's the future, be open. Socialism is NOT bad! It isn't GOOD either. It is a system, for some people it works, for others it doesn't. Yes, America has leaned socialist for a while, and the parts that are, have mostly worked OK. Everything is going to have some bugs, capitalism does. Just because some insane people happened to be the ones who worked with socialism and communism at the outset, doesn't discredit the whole system. Look at Scandinavia during the great depression, their middle-way saved them. Some things work, some don't, but we have to be able to adapt. Shouldn't it be part of ones individual freedom to be socialist/progressive/ promote one's own ideas, as you are doing? Speaking out against these messages seems a touch hypocritical. Sorry about the rant. I'm just feeling depressed(for other reasons) right now.
So the video is telling us that loathsome old hag leftist dyke coaches who lust after teen girls hate wholesome American women, ok got it…but that is not a new revelation.
hehe, off-topic, but, I sorta agree with you Aaron. I don't freely trust, or LOVE Obama. But I think he was the better option. He could be doing much better, and much more, if healthcare hasn't been so difficult to manage.
This is not the quote of a person who understands how things are supposed to work. She is supporting a tyranny in this little monologue you've quoted.
Civil Rights was voted in, NOT because of Johnson, but because of the legislature representing their constituents. This is a representative republic.
Jane Lynch may be disappointed in Obama, but it's because he won't wave his magic president's wand and say "eff all of you, I'm going to do this!" about gay marriage, period. He was willing to do that with the atrocity of the health care bill so … I guess he's just not that into Jane Lynch.
She does think Sarah Palin is stupid. I'd bet money. A lot of it. And guess what, as much as I like Jane Lynch's acting, that quote you posted tells me she's a friggin' moron.
You can always watch the production numbers on youtube. You get the best part of the show and you don't have to suffer the rest.
"Do your worst, cry babies"? Really? What are you, twelve? "Do your worst, cry babies". Seriously. You're twelve, right?
Who is the hot older gym teacher?
"this is why I stopped watching television over a decade ago"
So someone referred you to the scene. Okay. You're not a regular viewer of the show.
"“Glee” spent all of last season building up buzz and an audience, and as soon as they get one: POW!"
How would you know? You didn't watch it. I did … to the point that I'm bored by it now. But, there were all kinds of "offenses" against right-wingers.
Sorry, Nolte, you're a smart guy, but this just comes off as conspiracy theory.
Just don't hit the new HUGE score board at "Jerry World" in Dallas.
The kitten is spotted at the point it touches the turf, 1st and 10, receiving team.

If you read that as militaristic, that's your perspective. You can wage a war of ideas. And I'm not worried about how the enemy sees me.
Precisely. It's astounding how many people confuse the powers of a President with that of a king.
Let's see; fictional evil character disses Palin and the intent is that the audience will dismiss fictional evil character's remark because she's loony.
Yeah, right.
Any reason why fictional evil character didn't diss Obama? Better yet, a celebrity that the girls would be more likely to be following? Are you that out of touch that you think the average teen is tuned into Palin?
And love how you compare a non-political fictional character dissing a politician (to teens, no less) with a real political character.
I guess it goes over your head that a political character on one side of the aisle calling another political character on the other side incompetent makes sense.
"Irregardless"? Is this a joke?
Cigarettes have little to nothing do with cocaine. People of opposing political parties do. There's nothing false about placing these two people side by side since, usually, it's usually one of the side's attacking the other.
How about this… I acknowledge that Palin probably should have stayed at her job through at least the term in which she was elected. However, to juxtapose, Obama never even showed up to his.
I agree on Lost. How wonderful to watch a show like that.
Of course, now that we've said that, the sucker punch will come in the finale, right? LOL!
Absolutely, James! I had just logged on to point that out. We started out overlooking the silly plotlines, because the talent of the performers outweighed them.
But, it didn't take long to make us angry. When a cheerleader's parents found out she was pregnant, her liquor-swilling, Glenn Beck-watching Christian father threw her out – while her oh-so-proper Christian mother watched helplessly.
After that, we only DVRed the show and fast-forwarded to the songs. We had originally intended to buy the CD, but opted not to after the put down of not only Christians, but Glenn Beck, as well.
Then, while the show was on break, we discovered that the cast was performing for the Obamas, whom they had described in glowing terms.
When the Spring season started, it did so without us. Imagine my NON-SURPRISE to find the show had bashed Governor Palin.
Actions have consequences, and it is long past time for the Lefty/Libs in the entertainment industry to learn that. Other than the voting booth, the most important vote we possess is with our money.
Sorry, that's like saying that since everyone knows that Jon Stewart or Bill Maher or [insert leftie talking head name here] is simply making fun, that we can ignore their slapdowns of conservatives and Tea Partiers, etc.?
So you want us to believe that the secret double head-fake plan here is to get viewers to say to themselves "That evil lady is saying bad things about Sarah. Gee, Sue Sylvester must be wrong about her and maybe I should look again at what Palin stands for?" Pull the other one, it's got bells on.
Excellent point, Esgaroth!
"…couldn't even tie their own shoes if they were velcro"
I thought it was a very astute assessment myself.
Yep. Fox is not exempt. The American people are now mostly awake, and are going to be watching things a lot more closely.
If anyone from Fox is reading this – clean up your website. There is getting to be almost as much celebrity and half-nude junk on it as there is news. If we want that sort of stuff, we'll look at a tabloid.
We like "Castle," but the wardrobe department needs to quit glamorizing the female lead to the point of her wearing footwear with 4-6 inch heels to work. I'm sure that's what any average female homicide detective wears while chasing the bad guys down an alley at top speed.
ditto……..
I've tried to tie velcro…..it isn't easy. You can do the "cross, around, under and through", but when you try to pull, the sides stick together. And, really, it's not nearly long enough to make "bunny ears"…..

I don't follow Glee, since I don't have a uterus or a desire to move to San Francisco. However, my fiancée who thankfully does have a uterus enjoys the show, and she's as conservative as I am. She showed me a clip of the same character insulting a male student asking if he was a "an Eve born as a Steve who needed to turn back into an Eve" and suggest he quit the school and move to Thailand. Hilarious, and something that'll no doubt make the idiots at GLAAD a whole lot angrier than any Palin bashing makes us.
Also, this total defense of Palin is getting a bit old. I'll go right out and say it: I understand why she gets bashed and mocked. She's an easy target with a grating voice spouting cliché after cliché after cliché. As she reminds us in every speech, she's a hockey mom. Good for her, but that's not a qualification for the highest office of the greatest nation on Earth.
And before you bash me over this display of "treason" to Palin, I ask that you watch Ronald Reagan's speech from 1964, "A Time for Choosing", and compare that to the equivalent speech of Palin at the 2008 RPC. Reagan is even more relevant today than he was 46 years ago. He goes on a measured, inspiring, full-fledged assault on socialism, socialized health care, Washington, destruction of family values, and the entire welfare state, including Medicare. When Reagan speaks, I hang on every word. When Palin speaks, I roll my eyes and channel surf.
Let her fade away, so we can spend our energy finding a new Reagan, rather than trying to push a rock up a mountain.
True. It's idiotic to suggest that we support killing anyone. I would not be averse however, to providing permanent, government subsidized, secure housing for for these Maoist infiltrators–at any of the various FEMA camps across the country… Nothing would be more just than to make these communists live in the prisons they intended for us.
I don't think it will hurt the show at all. It's aimed at young women. A more reliably hard left group cannot be found outside the Ayers household or Obama's. Shots at Palin (whom most women despise, and men generally like), along with Glen Beck, are sure fire winners.
TV is a female and gay ghetto. What else would you expect?
"Glee" is an idiot show and I don't understand why people continue to watch it. The first show was awful and subsequent partial episodes have only been worse. Trash TV.
Fox Entertainment is as liberal as it gets. Fox News is conservative, only because it provides about half News Corp. operating income, used to pay off its considerable debt. The second the Murdoch kids or Wendi Deng get control, they've stated publicly they will turn Fox News hardcore liberal, with tiny audiences to match.
Second, almost no men watch anything on TV other than sports, its repellent. Singing, dancing, stuff like that? G-A-Y. No thanks. Women love it (who oh who will be the most glittery princess?) and of course gays (who will be the twirliest boy of them all?) but it is toxic to men. As is really, most of TV, from the various night-time soaps, female-dominated sitcoms, and angsty dramas. Meanwhile, men have retreated to the NFL, College Football, Baseball, Hockey, and basketball. With a smattering of science or history programs on History Channel, Nat Geo, etc.
Third, Andrew Breitbart is correct, the Left is at war with Republicans/conservatives/average people, but it is as much a function of who the left is: Women, gays, as much as anything else.
Marketers don't want or care for male consumers. They believe women make almost all purchases. Women, divorcing much more, marrying far later, single mothers much greater, have little need for much other than hostility to most men. This is why TV is a toxic stew of female-gay ghettoism, and thus so hard left. Because of who watches it, who makes it, and who buys ads for it. It IS a victory, of sorts, but like all is one with a cost.
Well, that is why I used to look forward to Law & Order but got so sick of their pot shots – sucker punches as John so artfully pointed out – that I don't watch it any more. To tell you the truth The Mentalist, House and the Pacific series are all that I am watching at the moment.
Been doing a lot more reading – just finished a wonderful biography of Audrey Hepburn written by her son Sean – complete with family photos – after reading this you realize what a kind spirit she was inside and out – now I am onto a book on Bogart written by her son Steve.
Someone here mentioned Bogie was a lefty – I had disagreed but later on in the book Steve says that he supported Stevenson and Helen Douglas (Nixon's nemesis) and he was publicly opinionated. He wanted Eisenhower when he was thought to run as a Democrat but switched to Stevenson when Ike ran on the Rep ticket.
I'd still maintain that most Democrats 50 years ago weren't really leftists as we know them…
I quit watching network TV a long time ago because of its tiresome, formulaic schlock and its typical and tedious left-wing bias, especially network news. The fact that an otherwise somewhat entertaining actress suddenly decided to come out as a lesbian and then attack Sarah Palin, and by extension, tens of millions of Americans who identify with people who oppose Obama's hardcore, leftist policies and extremist communistic ideology; another Hollywood liberal coward speaks out against Palin, Republicans, and the tea party movement knowing Hollywood and the craven liberal media, too gutless to even question much less criticize Democrat and liberal doctrinaire, eagerly assaults "right-wing" straw men with "glee".
Just as cowardly Hollywood frauds dare not take on real world Islamic extremism and terrorism, Lalaland liberal phonies lay into anything Christian, heterosexual, and anything cherished by the vast majority of average Americans. Therefore, it is no surprise that these same lockstep, group think cowards would chime in on the Palin/Republican hatefest. If the next terrorist mass murder attack on US soil occurs in the heart of the left's sacred temple of anti-American fantasy and fiction, ie: Hollywood, I'm sure they will find a way to blame Sarah Palin, Joe the plumber, Republicans, and the tea party movement for it. As for me, I am DONE with these biased idiots as I need them vastly less than they need my dollars.
Here's my memory from reading about it around 12 years ago: Bogart was a committed Democrat and he went to Washington with a delegation of actors to support the Hollywood Ten. On the way in, he said something like, "They call you a Communist if you happened to scratch your ass during the Pledge of Allegiance." It soon became apparent that the Hollywood Ten really were communists, with ties to the Soviet government, and the delegation left, embarrassed they had lent their support.
Lauren Bacall is a modern liberal. I'm not sure Bogart would be had he survived, but I have no way of knowing. I don't find it hard to imagine him following the paths of Reagan and Cagney, who were both liberal Democrats who became conservative later in life.
I think your analysis is the most accurate. One thing that I am getting out of this book was that Bogie liked to stir up !@#$% – loved to argue and would frequently take an opposing side (to him) just to get the sparks going.
He loved to challenge authority figures and got into a lot of public fights with Jack Warner.
But I do believe he was a Democrat in the Reagan mold and I would have no problem imagining him following Reagan's political path, had he lived another decade. Of course we'll never know.
I'm with you Primer. The only time my tv is on one of the major 3letter broadcast networks is to watch a sporting event. I don't think I've ever watched an entire episode of Sienfeld. I feel as though I've missed nothing. I watch some tv but it almost always social science type shows. anthropology, archaeology, economics, geography, history, linguistics, political science…………..you know, the type of shows that don't have go through Hollywood and be poluted with their leftist tripe. True crime shows are interesting as well. One of my new favorite shows is………………………"I (almost) Got Away With It"………..it's cool. My son came by the other night when I was watching it, I told him it wouldn't be much fun to be a star on this show. I told him if I have to star in a show it'll be………………………….."I GOT away with it"…………………
Gheesh… out of context…out of context.. well you should know because thats what you always do.
“Glee” is millions of dollars of sound and fury aimed squarely at your children.
Which is exactly why, if I still had young children, they wouldn't be watching it…….
Hilarious reading all these twisted angry idiotic comments after seeing that Glee's numbers last night are their highest yet! Long Live Glee and Ryan Murphy who is for the arts for your children and schools and wants your ignorant azz to stay out of his bedroom and allow him to love and marry who ever he choses and if it takes a simple TV show to show your children that choice is right so be it. Be aware you can't stop them from watching it.
They are on the net . You try and instill hatred in your own children and then they go out and they learn for themselves.. It must really burn you up, but at least take the credit for having a child who can decide for themselves that their parent is a clueless fool filled with blind hatred for a good portion of the world we live in. All while declaring they are loving (pencil in whatever religion). BTW GO GLEE! Besides being entertaining you are pissing off the extreme right, EPIC WIN WIN!
Oh and did you see SNL, you should Hulu it, the Palin Network sketch will make you cry blood, hysterically funny!
