When David Letterman Met a Tea Partier
by John NolteVery smart move on Letterman’s part. Now that he once again has the gritty taste of Leno’s dust in his mouth, doing things like showing Red State, blue collar America a little respect is something he’ll need to do more of in order to remain competitive. His bitter partisanship and savage attacks on Sarah Palin and her family cost him dearly in the audience goodwill department. Maybe this clip is a sign that he’s finally figured out that there just aren’t enough elitists in this country to bring him back to #1.
—–
[Part 2 and 3 of the interview are below.]
His guest, Pam Stout, is the kind of Tea Party representative the left is desperately hoping to smear as ignorant, frothing-at-the mouth racists. But as you can see she’s just like you and I: an everyday American who loves her country, knows something’s terribly wrong and, though never politically active before, has taken the time to become an activist, but only after educating herself on the issues.
Pam Stouts are springing from everywhere, and her ability to intelligently answer Letterman’s tough but fair questions is what most terrifies the Obamabots and their corrupt supporters in the media. Our bullshit detectors have always been there but now we’re moving beyond instinct and starting to teach ourselves the truth behind the media spin. These past few years, we haven’t been as vigilant as we should have. But now that America’s awake, the left’s in for a real fight because we are fundamentally too good of a people to simply stand by as they decimate our country — even if the price is being called “racists.”
Ms. Stout is why Obama and his media minions can’t get away with saying that Americans simply don’t understand the latest scheme to take over yet another slice of the private sector for “our own good.” Their problem is that we do understand and that’s why we’re worried, awake, aware, educated and vocal.
As we can see from David Letterman, popular culture is discovering they need the Pam Stouts of the world, as well. We’re paying attention to everything now. Ask the makers of these anti-American films. They’re the only coastal elites licking more wounds than CNN.
Final note: Don’t take the bait, Ms. Stout! The reason Letterman says the Tea Partiers need a “charismatic leader” is so that he and his kind will have a single target with which to take the whole movement down with. Right now they’re forced to attack the “American People,” and it’s costing them dearly.
Let’s leave it that way.

one can only hope that the Indiana native has discovered his roots…
And Ms Stout acquits herself fairly well here; but the sneaking suspicion that an underlying ridicule is intended is hard to shake. History has taught to be forewarned on issues such as this.
Still, better than the nightly round of Bush (or Palin) bashing that poses as entertainment…
Three Cheers For Pam Stout!
Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
I agree. good move. I would happily watch Letterman if he had more of this on his show.
I think she did a great job. Mr Letterman is sneaky and gets snarky every time I try to watch. So I don't.
You are absolutely right about the Tea Party Movement does not need one "charismatic leader". The left's usual Modus operandi is quite impotent right now, reduced to the tired cat calls of "racism, stupidity, and rednecks!" Once they have a single target, they will finally have what their liberal hearts most desire—the bullseye to aim at.
Dave's still a spineless scumbag, but good move of having a sane, real American on his show for a change.
Eloquent, witty and wise, Mr Nolte…you have exposed the tawdry schemes of the Lying Elite Left succinctly…
… tell Profound Truths in Simple Language – it's been the formula for honest success for over 3,000 years…
You talk too much. Clearly you are a narcissist. Things will always be hard for you.
You've had your say… can you finally go get your shinebox now?
Oh Lord, Letterman snuck in every talking point of the left. He asked Mrs Stout more difficult, pointed questions than he ever did Obama. I appreciate that he had her on though. She is a wonderful testimony to the nature of the typical tea Party member.
Stout more Good on you Mrs. Stout for not taking the bait,
Wow..Jim Jones is back…He has Some more Kool-Aid for you to drink RckmSckmRbts …..
Wow. More straw men than 10,000 Iowa cornfields (with a few red herrings and outright lies thrown in). And, more hyperbole and hysteria than the folks on MSNBC. Impressive work, Rock 'em Sock 'em.
"Every village has its idiots, of course, but it's sad when citizens of any nation allow themselves to be whipped into a frenzy en masse by a state-run propaganda machine masquerading as a legitimate, fair, balanced and independent news organization."
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Read your manifesto the first time. It still stinks.
Wow, you must be really proud of your self after that one.
Did you get your mom to help with spelling the bigger words?
It's a robot, apparently, because it said the same thing at the top of the comments.
I stomached Letterman for the first video, I refuse to pollute my life with the rest of his crap.
Congratulations to Mrs. Stout, and some one here please put Mr. Brietbart in touch with these videos.
Johnny Carson used to have "regular" people all the time on his show. They were always the most intertaining. One time he had a qual farmer on his show, who sealed qual droppings in acrylic and made tie clasps, paperweights, and other stuff. Johnny joked, "So basically you make money from both ends", or something like that.
She's Precious! I want to hug her
/facepalm
RckmSckmRbts name posts to media matters…everyone post him a reply an tell him what you think…i did…i had a song to take him away happy as my last comment to him and his ilk…"Goodbye sweetheart well you got to go…" and just so you know RckmSckmRbts you have become the village idiot here…
Still playing with rock'em shock'em robots ?Your ignorance bears out that answer in the affirmative, obviously. Too stupid to see that his nemesis, Bush, tripled the deficit, with his willing accomplices the Democrats, and he thinks it is a hanging offense, but his buddy the loser, O, has quadrupled that in under year. What a dummy. And still whines about "Bush Lies". One thing for sure is he is a Tea Bagger, because the Tea Party shuns idiots…like the ones he adores, that is.
Lefty moonbats love reading their talking-point laden, hate-filled screeds almost as much as they love listening to their own voices. Run back over to SnuffPo, little man. You sound like the Robot that had his block knocked off. Put the L-Dopa down and step away from the keyboard.

Your use of the term teabagger immediately made me uninterested in your sadly mistaken talking points.
Lefties love reading their own talking-point laden, hate-filled screens almost as much as they love the sound of their own voices. Obviously this is the robot that had his knock blocked off!
You make an excellent point that there shouldn't be a national leader so the media has a target. Sarah Palin has made this point many times that the Tea Party is a MOVEMENT not a party and needs to remain that way. I hope the Tea Party organizers pay attention to her words of wisdom. It does make life difficult when the media has to keep calling everyday Americans racists. Let them keep it up, they're losing everyday. Anybody see CNNs ratings lately. As far as Letterman goes it looks like Karma is coming back at him. I tune in Letterman for about 3 minutes every night not because he's entertaining, but out of sheer curiosity where he's going. It's like looking at a train wreck still smoking.
Final note: Don’t take the bait, Ms. Stout! The reason Letterman says the Tea Partiers need a “charismatic leader” is so that he and his kind will have a single target with which to take the whole movement down with. Let’s leave it that way.
Whatever Andrew is paying you is not enough ; )
Great work as always, John.
That's because all you liberals say the same things over and over.
(contd.)
By the way, how's that 'sea change' of middle east policy working for you and your left wing loon crowd?
Y'know, the pullout from Afghanistan and ending rendition and outsourcing interrogations and all that other 'Bush lied people died' stuff that's STILL going on?
Happy, creep?
If the Tea Party DOESN'T find a leader or a cohesive organizing principal beyond "various people filled with ill-defined, amorphous anger," they will ultimately fail – well, fail sooner, I should say… in this case, the ultimate failure is a simple matter of evolution.
Spontaneous, directionless collective movements almost always fail, something "conservatives" ought to recognize. There was revolutionary sentiment in the American Colonies for decades, but it took Paine, Jefferson, Adams etc. to organize, focus and make it all COUNT for something. In this case, that's unlikely because if the "average" (the unfortunate key word) tea-whatever-er met a modern equivalent to Jefferson they'd likely find him to be "one of those ELITES!!!" and ignore him. Honestly, now… can you IMAGINE what a crowd that worships Palin would think of an educated, multilingual, upper-crust Deistic tinkerer like Thomas Jefferson??
(continued)
(continued)
THIS is likely the great undoing of what's left of "conservativism" in American society: The conflation of anti-"elitism" (itself a fairly silly thing) with anti-INTELLECTUALISM. The elevation of the "common" over the extraordinary, the worship of the average, the veneration of belief rather than knowledge.
As much as we like it when it happens in movies and fairytales, in REALITY the minority of "elite" are usually right and the majority of "normal" people are usually wrong – or at least misguided. In real life, a physician with a dozen degrees and eons of education – YES, probably afforded by being born with either the money or natural talent to make the pursuit of such possible because life ISN'T "fair" – DOES most-likely know more about medicine than some backwoods witch doctor who's got a "feel" for it. An astroNOMER knows more about the world than an astroLOGER. A thinker is better equipped than a believer.
Failure to comprehend this has doomed a thousand movements of "the people" before, and it will happen again.
The "bonehead or rodeo clown" didn't lead people to rise up, he inspired them with an idealism that America is exceptional. He knows it's not about him. Those who revere men like Mr. Obama, who believes it all about him, are blinded by celebrity and subject to his ideology. People need to get their collective heads out of their asses.
Thanks for coming to our village and being the idiot among us. Always appreciate a volunteer. Your name speaks volumes as to your level of intelligence (or major lack of). Now go back and get your tingle mingled with Chrissy Mathews tool.
"Don’t take the bait, Ms. Stout! The reason Letterman says the Tea Partiers need a “charismatic leader” is so that he and his kind will have a single target with which to take the whole movement down with."
I never would have thought of that one but you are exactly right. They need to "pick the target, personalize it and polarize it".
Well it's nice that Letterman had that reasonable, calm tea partier on. Maybe he should have had the guy on in the white shirt and tie from this video. Is he a typical member of the tea party or is he and exception to the rule?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ik4f1dRbP8&fe...
So are you normal or elite Bob.
MovieBob, I throw the BS flag at your post. I don't need to be "elite" to know that I live in a nation with a Constitution that I revere and that our current government is made up of a gaggle of career politicians who place their personal financial interests above their allegiance to our Constitution and their constituency. To me, that's enough for a "movement" like the Tea Party to maintain momentum and demand (and receive) CHANGE.
The robot obviously learned everything he knows from Keith Olbermann. Thanks for all the laughs, this was a particularly good one: "… entitlement spending (it actually only accounts for about 1% of federal budget spending)"
Pam Stout a true american that the liberal media and the progreSSives will try and tear down… this goes to show you that the ELITE media is only looking out for themselves and there own agenda…. Letterman, I have to say that I did watch you YEARS AND YEARS ago…. I am SO glad that I have moved on and watch OLD RERUNS of nature and such…. Letterman your a dolt and everything that is wrong with this GREAT COUNTRY!!!! go try and seduce a interin you low life
I'm sure that we are all relieved that Letterman didn't bring on this Tea Party "would be leader":
http://washingtonindependent.com/73036/n-word-sig...
I disagree, MB. The 'charismatic leader' results in Ross Perots, and then the sad hijacking of what was left of his Reform Party by Pat Buchanan. For the Tea "Party" to become an actual third party would be insanity- all we can do is give voice to the voiceless, and (we hope) drag the 'conservative' party, the GOP, back in line with its claimed principles, and encourage those few Dems with respect for fiscal sanity to stick to what's right.
Besides, any 'leader' of the Tea Party Movement would be blasted apart by the left and their attack-poodle media faster than you can say "Joe Wurzelbacher."
Obviously an "exceptional" Tea Partier.
She is so intimidating and vile!!! What a racist, homophobe, child hater this woman is!!!! I bet Dave was fearing for his very life the whole time she was on!!!!
Letterman just spouts one DNC talking point after another…one falsehood preceeding another. Dave…such an @ss.
One problem: the doctor doesn't know jack about astronomy, and vice-versa. Our Guest Lecturer in Constitutional Law knows precisely zero about economics, or military doctrine, or diplomacy.
An "intellectual" is a man with attainments in one field who on that basis considers himself an expert on everything.
For a really, really pathetic example, Paul Krugman: a man with a Nobel for the mathematics of an obscure corner of developing-nation tariff policy, but diddly squat about anything else he pontificates on, including macro-economics; the man doesn't even understand the very Keynesianism he espouses!
The local building contractor with a 10th-grade education understands running a business far, far better than most of the "intelligent" people with boatloads of degrees that populate the current administration. More broadly, of course, you run into Hayek's information deficit, the law of ecodynamics which renders effective central planning impossible.
The robot's comments have already been removed but if he said that then he is truly an idiot and goes to the wrong sources for factual information. Entitlement spending actually exceeds military spending!
BINGO, BINGO, BINGO. And, the 10th-grade entrepreneur understands the rampant BS of those with degrees from Hahvahd, etc. who have never run ANYTHING in their life. This country was not built by the twits. Jefferson, Adams, etc. all were do-ers who were eminently qualified both academically and in the school of life in science, business, etc. Our current Prez? No so much. Oh, sorry, he's done some "organizing."
Compared to what?
Actually, you want a damning indictment of our national IQ? Judged against my countrymen I probably do rate somewhere near "elite" in more fields than I'd deserve to if this were, say, Japan or Canda.
"One problem: the doctor doesn't know jack about astronomy, and vice-versa. Our Guest Lecturer in Constitutional Law knows precisely zero about economics, or military doctrine, or diplomacy."
Wow, you're right…
Man, y'know what would solve that problem? If Presidents had, like, some kinda group of experts around to help make decisions? Like… a "cabinet," or something? And maybe if then they had to run those decisions by a Congress? And the Congress could be… I dunno, maybe elected by representative Democracy? That might work… how come no one thinks of these things?
I don't think leftist idiots comments should be deleted. I think it's best for the world to see their idiocy!
Conservative, rational, discussion forums should allow all views. I tried posting something on the Huffington site, and used plain, logical statements, but they wouldn't post them. I've said this before, but I think it's amusing enough to repeat, as a little joke on them, I posted a message with each sentence in the post beginning with
Y
O
U
P
E
O
P
L
E
S
U
C
K
And they posted it! Leftists are close minded, and lack awareness.
It would work if congress wouldn't bend to the will of an untalented president that just wanted a win. Looking at the current cabinet the expertise in their various tasks is at best questionable. (If a smart-powerless non-elite such as myself can properly operate turbotax…)
And THAT my friends is a reality check as to what the Tea Party and it's supporters are all about.
Thank you Pam, thank you very much .
Movie Bob we didn't need a charasmatic leader to kick all kinds of lefite ass in 1994. It just happened.
It can happen again.
Right now it's Obama and his Media Minions vs. Everyday Americans — not Newt, not Palin, not whoever your kind would seek to destroy.
And I'm praying it stays that way.
Right now we're a Hydra. The more you fight us… The more we're Bebe's kids: "We don't die, we multiply."
But what happens if that \”cabinet\” you propose is full of people with zero
experience in the business world? Whose \”expert\” on science is a protege
of a pseudoscientist charlatan? Who takes military advice from a career
academic and a career politician while ignoring his actual military
professionals? And whose principal advisers, the ones he listens to well
above his chosen 'experts', know nothing except Chicago machine thuggery?
You see, the idea of expert advisors only works if you have a CEO (of any
institution) who actually wants advice, rather than an echo chamber.
As to Congress being \”representative democracy\”… BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
where to begin. This nation has been deifying common over extraordinary for some time. both sides do it when it fits their goals. And as for the veneration of knowledge over belief, again both sides believe they are knowledgeable .
Love this one : "in REALITY the minority of "elite" are usually right and the majority of "normal" people are usually wrong"
Really? that is your home run hit? NAZI's were a minority in Germany (oh no not a nazi analogy) were they right? Khmer Rouge, minority opinion, were they right?
Point to me a man or group of men who are complete altruists. Can't do it. Doesn't happen. Everyone has a vested interest somewhere. Everyone. Left or Right , Democrat or Republican, baby killers or tea baggers. All of you have agendas.
Even you movie bob. In fact if your name has anything to do with your job, you deal in fairy tales more than the average person. It might make you elite but in my experience most people who are related to movies are ignorant fools who refuse to educate themselves and "feel" their way through crisis or causes.
I really thought she represented the Tea Party movement very well here. Letterman tried to trap her into some positions that do not jibe with our interests, but she wasn't taking the bait. Calling Glen Beck a clown, or divisive – she didn't play along with Letterman or betray Beck's role in energizing the base. Bless her heart! She was rock solid.
I agree that the very worst thing that the Tea Party Movement could do is try and unify under a National Leader or Structure. Remeber who is giving the advice. It is the left that sya this just like the left says that the Republican Party needs to move to the center (more to the left). This is like a eneral taking advice on how to win a Battle from the enemies General. The Republican Party lost because they abandoned their principles not because of them. It is OK for a candidate once nominated to mderate their talking points to attarct more voters but not to moderate their principles. It is OK to compromise your position as long as it does not compromise the priciples of your position.
We should never take advice from those who wish to destroy what we beleive in but too many of the Washington Insider crowd on both sides only care about their positon in Washington and not the principles they used to beleive in.
The quote is "Every village has an idiot – most work at MSNBC"
get it right
You're a better man than I, I think his comedy sucks. And that is a sin I can not forgive.
I thought he got paid in unicorns? Wait, that's Gut.
I can't bring myself to watch this. Letterman's harassing of Sarah Palin is starting to get creepy. I really get the feeling that he's hot for her and she's told him to get bent so he's stalking her. Every time he cracks an off color joke about her all I can think is "Dude, if you want her so bad just hire her so you can add her to your harem. Otherwise STFU."
I'm not buying the video as real. Having never been to a tea party myself (I work for a living), I can't say for sure, but that's entirely out of character for the people I know and have communicated with on this movement.
This is either staged on the victim's end or by impostors mouth-fomer's end. Something about that is not right. And the fact that it allegedly comes from the MSM makes it stink all the more.
Obviously.
If A is a subset of B, then A must equal all of B! How brilliant! Let me know when you get cold fusion running in your Mom's kitchen.
Used to do that back in college in microcode source files. All the branch labels would be sentences about the professors.
Bob, if someone is higher then average in IQ etc then they certainly wouldn't have to go about TELLING everyone now would they. It would just automatically shine through. That's kind of like telling me and everyone else that socialized medicine IS good for you. IF it was we would all just KNOW it.
BTW, you left out an "A" in Canada.
Gosh! Letterman still has a show? I stopped watching him years ago! He isnt funny, his "jokes" are a joke and I think he has every leftist in New York writing his tripe!
I had to change the channel when she came on. I just knew, absolutely knew, that Letterman was going to do nothing but ridicule the poor woman, and I didn't think I could sit through that. So between that and Joy Behar being on Leno last night I had a difficult time. Good to know now that it wasn't that bad.
Your avatar and the accompanying caption smack of RACISM coggy, what the deal?
I kind of suspected it was. Don't worry, my poor attempts at sarcasm here fall pretty flat on a regular basis.
Without knowing whether or not you want conservatism to be undone, let me just go ahead and say that you're wrong. Conservatism isn't some tool of the rich to control the unwashed masses; it's a system of beliefs, however ill-defined, that isn't going to just go away, change though it might in some respects. Many on the Left said the same things about conservatives after Goldwater's crushing defeat in '64 that you're saying now, yet it boomed back quick. It may not have immediate electoral success, but it's not going anywhere. (And yes, before you ask, I would say much the same about liberalism or any other ideology.)
Whew, what a steaming pile of puffy, puerile, putrid pap. Did we successfully complete the crossword puzzle in ink this morning before composing that self serving screed. I know I'm impressed by you burgeoning intellect. I bet you have an EXTRA big head right?
Keep the Tea Party decentralized and essentially leaderless!
It makes the Movement a moving target for the MovieBobs lurking around the corner.
Sorry, not buying it.
Letterman only had her on to parrot DNC talking points. 8 yrs. of Republican rule? The Dems took the majority in Congress the last 2 yrs. and that's where legislation originates. Of course, we all know Republicans tried to regulate Fannie Mae and it was vehemently opposed by the Democrats.
The obligatory Beck marginalization? Check. The fringe (overwhelmingly minor and not representative of tea partiers) question? Check. Has Letterman ever asked a Democrat if they embrace the 'truthers' in the Democratic Party? Any of the other loons?
Oh, and I would have reminded him that Democrats voted for the Iraq war. Apparently, he doesn't know that without their vote too, it wouldn't have happened.
Letterman is a lying POS. His pretending to want to understand what the Tea Party is about was completely transparent. He picked a nice woman who wouldn't challenge him.
I wouldn't watch that piece of crap Letterman if you paid me.
Read about Pam Stout here:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld...
there might be a more 'secret' agenda to 'moviebobs' post…
The Media is lusting after a leader- ONE titular leader- of the Teaparty Movement. Then the Alinskyite tactics of attack, ridicule, and diminish will be unleashed. 'Bob' is exactly wrong in his postulation that the Founders were about rallying around one man; in fact Madison and Hamiltom both agreed that tyranny had a face- always.
The fact that the movement IS amorphous is it's strength; in time a true (as opposed to selected) leader will emerge. Right now Ms Palin is suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, and is giving cover to the Coburns and the Ryans.
Ultimately, what is happening is very good- and that is what is hacking off the left so much…
yup. exactly.
Only children watch letterman, his audience is what, 18-25 year olds? No wonder he can continue to act and talk like an idiot, he's entertaining his masses – haven't watched him and won't – he's a cruel hearted man
he was very gracious with Mrs. Stout
Uncharacteristically so, one might say. I can't help imagining what a tremendous feat of self-control that must have been for him.
you make less sense as you go – so a cabinet that isn't vetted, a cabinet of tax cheats, a cabinet of mao and marx fans? yea, sounds like a way to lift a nation – you sir are a dunce
Couldn't have said it better myself James!
This woman is a soft-spoken woman of sense, and I respected her intelligent responses to Mr. Letterman's sneaky questions many of which were actually only ideological comments designed to force his opinions into the interview. He is more of an entertainer than a journalist…one I don't really watch much since he started spouting off against conservative Americans. Ms.Stout was really great! I just read something the other day about how the tea party movement is led mostly by conservative women. This one is tops! That she is an immigrant is very cool too.

You can put lipstick on a scumbag and he's still a scumbag. Why waste your time and encourage scumbaggery by watching Letterman just because he panders for ratings?
Mrs Stout was quite eloquent and very poised despite Dave's attempts to "throw her off her message" with some of his comments……misleading about attacking Iraq, does Beck speak for you, etc, etc… Perhaps her British upbringing had something to do with that.
Hopefully, the tea-party movements have among their ranks more people of her caliber. Maybe one of those individuls wil step up in 2012……? Hope and change!
Lisa,
I don't anyone considers Dave to be a journalist. A comedian perhaps, though far funnier in the 80's.
Letterman is a moron – never grew up intellectually or emotionally. In comparison to Ms. Stout, he appears to be the junior high kid who thinks he's pulling one over on some but isn't and isn't capable of it. Mrs. Stout kindly had his number.
That was terrific. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it never happened. She handled herself beautifully. But you know, as Janeane Garofolo has taught us, she's a straight up racist….
Thought police! lol! Why so angry and frustrated coggy?
Simple question – why so racist? I understand that racist is a major part of Democrat/KKK DNA.
So, lemme see you have a black man and mention of a government benefit – why?
The interview is ultimately very moving when she describes herself with simple eloquence … and despite all of Letterman's smarmy superiority when he says, "You don't scare me at all" … just having her on and not being able to rattle her inborn dignity … particularly when she defended Glenn Beck … by God, that is America's greatness.
Lincoln once asked his audience, "Why did God make so many common-looking people?"
Pause.
"Because He PREFERS common-looking people!"
"Tis the gift to be simple, tis the gift to be free!"
GB,
M
Obama? Is that you? I thought you hired a bunch of bots to sit in the basement for $20 an hour. What, you're bored?
OH! Sorry, that was accidental. I will change that to appease you.
Dave, "Now I know nothing about the tea party…"
Truer words he has never spoken.
I don't think either Leno or Letterman are sincere. Yes, Leno had Karl Rove on Monday, but that's followed, with the last words, with Joy Bahar on Tuesday, and Bill Maher on Wednesday. Two vs. one, and I bet it you average it out over the rest of the year, the odds will be much worse for the conservative viewpoint.
Letterman, as usual, came across as an angry, ignorant, leftist elitist. He REALLY is the biggest, under-educated weirdos on TV.
